McALLEN, Texas - Dolly spun into a hurricane Tuesday, heading toward the U.S.-Mexico border and the heavily populated Rio Grande Valley, where officials feared heavy rains could cause massive flooding and levee breaks. Dolly was upgraded from a tropical storm Tuesday afternoon with sustained winds near 75 mph, and some strengthening of the Category 1 storm is forecast before landfall Wednesday. At 5 p.m. EDT, the storm's center was about 165 miles east-southeast of Brownsville, moving northwest at about 10 mph. A hurricane warning is in effect for the coast of Texas from Brownsville to Corpus Christi and in Mexico from Rio San Fernando northward. In Mexico, Tamaulipas Gov. Eugenio Hernandez said officials are planning to evacuate 23,000 people to government shelters in Matamoros, Soto La Marina and San Fernando. This is so going to deal rain to Julesy on her vacation I bet.She better get those beach days in quick. |

Beachgoers sunbathe beside bodies of gypsy children Holidaymakers carried on sunning themselves after the bodies of the two Roma girls were covered with beach towels 21 July 2008 By NICK PISA IN ROME THE bodies of two drowned Roma children lay covered by towels on an Italian beach while holidaymakers carried on, unfazed enjoying the sun. Cristina Ibramovitc, 12, and Viola Ibramovitc, 11, were left on the sand for an hour among "indifferent" holidaymakers after being caught in rough seas. The two, who are related but not sisters, were among four children who had gone to the beach to beg and their death highlighted Italy's dramatic problem with Roma gypsy youngsters. The tragedy happened on a stretch of beach at Torregaveta, north of Naples, after witnesses said the children, who had been begging and selling trinkets, rushed into the sea. One eyewitness quoted on Italian TV said: "The water was rough and no-one was in the sea but these four Roma children just rushed into the huge waves. "The beach was packed and people soon realised the four were in trouble because the children started screaming and shouting for help. Some people went in and got two of them but the other two couldn't be saved and they were pulled from the water dead. "Bodies were left on the beach for an hour before being collected, just covered by a beach towel while people just got back to sunbathing and playing football. "It was very surreal – there was this picture of a typical Italian beach with families enjoying the sun and then just metres away were the bodies of these two children. People were completely indifferent about what had happened.'' A Naples coastguard spokesman said: "When we got there, there was nothing we could do and so we simply called the mortuary and arranged for them to come and pick up the bodies of the two children. While they were on the beach someone used their towel to cover the bodies until the mortuary van arrived.'' Police said the two surviving children had been taken to a police station for identification. Last night, Laura Boldrini, a spokeswoman from the UN High Commission for Refugees said: "Accounts would seem to suggest that even in death there seemed to be total indifference as their bodies lay on the beach while people continued to enjoy themselves. "I wonder if these people would have behaved in the same way if the children in question were Italian and not Roma? How can people show such a lack of compassion?" Cardinal Crescenzo Sepe of Naples also condemned the attitude of holidaymakers. "A tragedy has struck at the heart of Naples, the church has every sympathy for the victims and two precious lives lost. "In those pictures you see holidaymakers who appear more upset at the fact their view of the beach has been obstructed. "These images should never have to be seen. Indifference should not be a sentiment for human beings." Last night, Torrevegata's mayor, Franco Inauzzi, hit back at the claims of indifference: "From what I heard everyone tried to help and do what they could. "'I don't think there was any indifference from the people on the beach and if there was it wasn't due to the fact the victims were from a different ethnic background.'' Berlusconi crackdown taps into popular dislike of Romas SILVIO Berlusconi swept back to power this year on a tough law-and-order campaign in which he vowed to clamp down on illegal immigration. Italians blame the rising crime rate on illegal immigrants, with Roma gypsies being especially targeted after a series of high-profile incidents including the murder of an Italian admiral's wife. Mr Berlusconi wants to clamp down on Roma gypsies who send their children out to beg or clean car windscreens and last month announced the controversial fingerprint scheme for children. The announcement by Roberto Maroni, the interior minister, provoked condemnation from children's charity Unicef and opposition MPs. It was described as "racist" and a sinister echo of Italy's Fascist past. Mr Maroni, of the xenophobic Northern League, dismissed suggestions of racism and discrimination. There has been a backlash against Roma, with petrol bombs being thrown at a camp in Naples and sporadic vigilante attacks. Mr Maroni said fingerprints would be taken "not just of the adults in gypsy camps but also minors as well". He added: "This procedure will stop the phenomenon of children begging – it is not some form of ethnic screening. Fingerprinting will also help send back those who have no right to be here." There are estimated to be 160,000 Roma gypsies living in camps across Italy, often in appalling conditions with little basic sanitation. ___________________________________________________________________ Shame on those stuck up fucks!

Court: Girl can't be called Talula Does The Hula New Zealand judge criticizes parents and orders 9-year-old to be renamed WELLINGTON, New Zealand - A family court judge in New Zealand has had enough with parents giving their children bizarre names here, and did something about it. Just ask Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii. He had her renamed. Judge Rob Murfitt made the 9-year-old girl a ward of the court so that her name could be changed, he said in a ruling made public Thursday. The girl was involved in a custody battle, he said. The new name was not made public to protect the girl's privacy. 'Very poor judgment' "The court is profoundly concerned about the very poor judgment which this child's parents have shown in choosing this name," he wrote. "It makes a fool of the child and sets her up with a social disability and handicap, unnecessarily." The girl had been so embarrassed at the name that she had never told her closest friends what it was. She told people to call her "K" instead, the girl's lawyer, Colleen MacLeod, told the court. In his ruling, Murfitt cited a list of the unfortunate names. Sex Fruit? Registration officials blocked some names, including Fish and Chips, Yeah Detroit, Keenan Got Lucy and Sex Fruit, he said. But others were allowed, including Number 16 Bus Shelter "and tragically, Violence," he said. New Zealand law does not allow names that would cause offense to a reasonable person, among other conditions, said Brian Clarke, the registrar general of Births, Deaths and Marriages. Clarke said officials usually talked to parents who proposed unusual names to convince them about the potential for embarrassment. ___________________________________________________________________ Fucking hippies |

WASHINGTON - Opponents of the "don't ask, don't tell" policy on gays in the military denounced it as cruel and unpatriotic Wednesday. Supporters insisted it was needed to maintain military morale, and raised the prospect of a rise of HIV infection among service members if gays are allowed to serve openly. The heated exchanges came as Congress held its first hearing on "don't ask, don't tell" since its enactment 15 years ago. Although legislation has been introduced to overturn the ban, the hearing wasn't an attempt to advance the bill, something supporters say can only happen if Democratic Sen. Barack Obama is elected president. Republican Sen. John McCain supports "don't ask, don't tell." Instead, "our purpose today is to begin a long-overdue review ... and to start a conversation about the real-life impact on our service members, their families and the operational readiness of our military," said Rep. Susan Davis, D-Calif., chair of the House Armed Services personnel subcommittee. While there was plenty of conversation, consensus proved elusive and tempers flared as each side insisted on the moral soundness of their views. The policy was intended to keep the military from asking recruits their sexual orientation, and to prevent servicemembers from declaring that they are gay or bisexual or engaging in homosexual activity. Among the most arresting debates Wednesday came when Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Pa., a first-term congressman and the only Iraq war veteran in Congress, accused a witness of implying that U.S. service members weren't professional enough to handle serving with homosexuals. "You're saying you don't trust our military professionals to serve openly with people who might be different," Murphy said angrily to Elaine Donnelly, president of the Center for Military Readiness, a nonprofit that says it promotes certain military personnel policies. "I think that's an insult," Murphy said. Donnelly denied that, insisting that "forced cohabitation" and resulting "sexual tension ... will hurt discipline and morale." "People are human, people have sexual feelings and they're not perfect," she said. "Prejudice is wrong, but feelings about sexuality are different." Donnelly contended that if the law were repealed the number of HIV-positive service members would probably increase. Rep. Vic Snyder, D-Ark., a Vietnam veteran and medical doctor, called that comment "so inappropriate" and suggested that Donnelly advocate for the military to recruit only lesbians, who he said have a low incidence of HIV. The top Republican on the committee, Rep. John McHugh, R-N.Y., didn't stake out a position, but said that judgment on "don't ask, don't tell" must "ultimately rest on matters of military readiness morale good order and discipline." Pentagon officials weren't invited to testify after committee members concluded they wouldn't say anything other than that they'd follow the law. Asked Wednesday whether the Pentagon thinks it's appropriate to re-examine "don't ask, don't tell," Defense Department press secretary Geoff Morrell said: "I would say only that 'don't ask, don't tell' remains the law of the land. And to my knowledge, the department is not advocating a change in policy." "Donnelly contended that if the law were repealed the number of HIV-positive service members would probably increase." Elaine Donnelly is a retard asshole!

CNN Looks At Deteriorating Situation For Gays In Iraq The United States government likes to say that Iraq’s more “democratic” since the 2003 invasion, but that’s definitely not the case for the nation’s homosexual population. CNN spoke with Kamal, now 18, and his 21-year-old friend, Rami, about what it’s like to be gay in Iraq. Coming out as gay is not easy in any country, but to do so in Iraq could mean a death sentence or torture. The two men rarely show feelings toward each other in public. They spend a lot of time in Internet cafes in Baghdad, surfing gay chat rooms and seeking contacts with other gay men in Iraq and elsewhere. Since the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003, the situation for gays and lesbians in Iraq has deteriorated. Ridiculed under Hussein, many now find themselves the targets of violence, according to humanitarian officials. Lesbians are also victims of harassment and violence, but not nearly as often as gay men. It’s unknown how many homosexuals have been killed by militias in the lawless streets of Iraq’s cities, but some Web sites post pictures of Iraqis they say were killed for being gay. One photo on the Iraqi Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender site shows a group of men standing around three male bodies sprawled on a street, blood pouring from their heads. “Gay Iraqi victims of the police and death squads,” the site says. Those death squads can be found on both sides of the religious divide. Some claim the democratizing US Military knows all about them, yet they do nothing. Homo-politicos Tammy Baldwin and Barney Frank have both urged the Pentagon to address the matter. It hasn’t. Source I know I may sound lame but if my life depended on me pretending to not be gay, just in public, I would so hide it. Its sad but ...wow. |

terrible. Makes me respect those who dare to come out and campaign for equal rights, even more. They had it on the news her, yesterday. I was like, okay. Let's highlight that particular issue but, completely ignore the fact that many countries in the Middle East have the same situation. and we've known abot it for decades. The media chooses things to be worried about, for us. Like the famine in Niger a couple of years ago. The famine had been going on for years but, it was not newsworthy enough. Obviously, a year after the Live8 concert and subsequent release of the Live8 DVD....we hear about Niger. I wonder what they want from this one. |

OMG! You guys, this is sooooooooooo saaaaaaaaaad! This is so sad, yet touching. Reece Fleming was diagnosed with leukaemia back in 2004 when he was just 4 years old. He battled the disease for years until this May, when doctors gave the 8 year old boy only a few weeks to live. The family decided to try and help him achieve most of his goals before he would pass. And one of those was to marry his school sweetheart, Elleanor Purgslove. Reece's mother said "When we found out that we only had a few weeks with him we tried to do absolutely everything with him that we could. Him and Ellie had been 'special friends' for a couple of years but then they broke up. We said we'd have a pirate party, and Ellie came. She went to visit Reece a few times in hospital as well." Then during a recent laser tag party, Reece "proposed" to his little friend. After she accepted, their parents arranged a pretend wedding at Reece's home The families went out to dinner in the mayor's limousine and organized the wedding with rings and even a fictional certificate. The kids got married on July 4th. And Reece told his mom, "I can go now," after his wedding wish had been fulfilled. His mom added, "He was so proud of her, and we were proud of them both." The following day after the wedding, Reece died at home with his family. Soooooo sad! During the funeral, the mourners followed a horse-draw hearse on foot. His mom added, "Even on the Saturday that he died, he got out of bed and walked to the sofa. He always tried walking, right to the end, so we thought if he walked for us then we would walk for him." |
