This is what I would say to Miguel if I were you: honey, I love you. But this is getting ridiculous that you dont have a job yet. I let you be depressed about loosing your job, but that time is over. It has been 5 months now. So this is what needs to happen. The word of the day today is job, J-O-B. You will go out today and go apply at every restaurant within a 15 mile radius. I dont care if you have no car, if you have to walk to every restaurant! I am not letting you back in this house until you have a job secured! Now get dressed, put on your smile and MOVE your lazy ass! (give him a swift push with your foot out the door) If you dont find a job today then you best need to sleep at your mama's house till you do! Love you! good luck! (slams door in his face before he can protest) |

What part of he has applied at every place that he could don't you understand? And the reason why you are alone now is because you don't know how to relate to people in a relationship! |

lol dude Jesse, this mo fo needs a job in this economy. That is, unless you want a bf who leeches off unemployment and probably you, or his momma. Also, hes kinda old to be pulling this stuff. I can understand in your early 20's but in your 30's? Thats just LAZY. When I was 18 I had TWO jobs and NO car and still found a way to get to work. Whether it be by bus, or friends. It sounds like he has friends cause he parties with them. They cant ALL not have a car. How do they get around? Anyway, I can only speculate by what you post. All in all, a 30 something guy whos not handicapped in any way SHOULD have a job. You wouldnt catch me with a guy with no job. Then again, whatever I spout off usually goes ignored because people dont wanna face the truth. *ask my sister* A
Im in a relationship and theres NO WAY I would tolerate this lazy bullshit behaviour. Sorry to burst your bubble but FUCK NO |

He's even applied at a candy company for fuck's sake! I'm not going to defend my man on this anymore, cause you two just don't get it. The economy is making it hard for the restaurant industry, its tight. Michele you should know this because you constantly post about how you need to make this or that amount of money just to buy fucking groceries! And Jules let's see how well you'd get along with just you lunch lady salary! You couldn't! Now enough before I get pissed. |

I would survive or get a second job. Ive done it before so there goes that theory.I havent had parens help since I was 17
Yeah, I dont see why you defend him. My 17 yr old cousin found a summer job at a grocery store. Its not that hard. Its SOMETHING. But yeah, I reckon I wont understand. Besides, it aint my bf. *runs outta the thread* |

And remember that I live in a much more populous city than you Jules, with a much higher cost of living rate. He can collect more on unemployment right now than on some minimum wage type job. |

Also, we each pay into unemployment so technically its not leeching, its our own money that we paid into it. |

lol I suppose. You can justify it all you want. No biggie. Im just saying personally, I couldnt be with someone who is not productive. Yeah, I work part time, but I WORK. Ive never in my 26 yrs collected unemployment/wic/food stamps and Id like to keep it that way. It does tempt me to take a nice vacation though..... |

Some things are very clear cut and some things aren't. And I think it's not very kind of you guys to put Jesse in a place where he has to defend his boyfriend. When I moved to London, it took me three months to find a job , whereas it would be a lot easier for me to find one in rotterdam, which is a lot smaller. Bear in mind that, the Uk was and still is in a better economic position than the United States. I was lucky enough to have my parents helping me out during that difficult time. But three months later I had a job. When I quit my job in my final year in London, I did not realise how difficult it was going to be to find a new one. I searched far and wide. and like Miguel, I was sometimes offered jobs that paid less than what I could collect from benefits. if push came to shove, i would definitely apply for jobseekers'allowance. THAT is why these things are in place! I paid into that by paying my taxes when I was employed. So i would'nt feel like a leech aty all! Luckily it did not come that far but, it COULD have happened very easily. And I don't think I should be looked down upon in that case. I did not have the luck to be in a stable relationship where one helps out the other when needs be and a lot of times I wish I was. And surely it can be frustrating, for the one doing the helping out. But, how do you think Miguel must be feeling? trying to find a job but, getting no luck?he must feel quite depressed and after a while it can be very demotivating. kicking someoene when they're down is not particularly benificial and self righteousness is downright insulting. I have this friend in San Diego, highly skill;ed. But she is unemplyes. She is looking for waiting-jobs, ANYTHING, but still no luck. and believe me she is trying! She is living off food stamps. So what? She's looking for a job, she can't get one, so she needs help! Well done to the both of you to be in a position where you never had to apply for benefits and being able to find a job Nobody can take anything away from that. But, don't look down on people who are finding it harder. Try to put yourself into someone else's shoes instead of only relying on what YOU have been through. it does not apply to everybody. |

I have been unemployed for 6 months (1,5 years ago) and not because I could not get a job but because I could not get a job I wanted. I did not go to school so I would have to lick floors (and no I do not mean it as an insult, I come from a blue-collar family). Though actually most blue-collars here make more than white-collars. But the truth is that if you want a job, any job, you will always find one. The real question is, will you take it even if it pays about the same than what government gives you. |

It depends on where you live, I guess. I have lived in three different cities and each had their own job availability. And why would you work for less than what you would get from the government while you look for a job that would pay you more than that? It's just that I got really upset reading Michele's and Julesy's comments. It's easy to talk when you actually do have a job and having a good job availability in your environment but, there are people who have different situations. And I thought it came across as a bit selfrighteous and condescending.Miguel is not a baby and neither is Jesse. I'm sure they KNOW and I'm sure they find it very frustrating and really are trying. I've been there and know what it feels like, hence my reaction |

No there is always something. It just might mean you have to be covered in shit or bees or both to make a living.

If I had a partner and he would tell me. Why don't go out and scrape poo from public toilet seats if you can't find anothetr job? I would fucking kill him. I would never do that to my partner. We're in this together. If I was on my own....that would be a different story. Jobseekers allowance is not that much and I bet pooscraping would pay a bit more as nobody wants to do it.

if that is not the funniest thing I have ever heard! Anyways, do you know for a fact that he has applied everywhere? Or is he just saying that he is? Cause Darwin was claiming he was applying at more places than he really was. Still, I find it REALLY hard to imagine that he cant find ONE restaurant that is hiring. Fuck at Chilis we are always hiring new servers! They finally stopped hiring servers like 3 weeks ago, but give it a couple more weeks and they will start hiring again. 4 servers quit in the past 2 weeks. |

there are some days when it is slower at chilis, but still they are building new restaurants all over the place, people in general are still going out to eat, restaurants are still hiring. The only thing I can say that MIGHT be making it difficult for him right now, (not the past few months but now) is that it is summer and what happens at restaurants is a lot of servers who were away at college come back to their positions at the restaurants they were working at. So maybe I can see that making it tougher for him right now, but I cant understand why he hasnt found one before May came rolling around. |

craigs been there and done that, he has worked as a cleaner in the past and he hated it but the vast majority of cleaner jobs in our area are only part time and very few hours at that. now you might say why not get two jobs, over here you get taxed to hell and back so we'd really be losing out if he did. there are no jobs going right now because all the university students have taken them for the summer. he could go with an agency again but because so many students are wanting to temp its a two week wait just to go see them |

It worked when I did it on Darwin. Jesse does he know how to bartend too or just serve? |
