List of remake horror movies that dont even need to be remade.

what happened to creativitiy? imagination?

hey, everyone! 16 more crappy remakes of horror movies!
Prom Night (1980)

remake:
cast: Brittany Snow, Dana Davis, Jessica Troup, Scott Porter, Collins Pennie, Kelly Blatz,
Idris Elba, Jonathan Schaech, Jessalyn Gilsig, Kellan Lutz, Jana Kramer, Tatum Adair, Craig
Susser
director: Nelson McCormick
screenwriter: J.S. Cardone
release date: April 11, 2008

From horror-fanatics.com:
The release date for the upcoming PROM NIGHT remake has been changed. The film is now expected to hit theatres on April 11th, 2008. Word on the street is that the crew is aiming for a PG-13 rating in hopes of attracting all the young kids. More.

PG-13? Thanks, Hollywood, for blatantly PROMISING (oh, wow, unintentional bad pun) everything that I hate when it comes to shitty horror remakes!

Creature From The Black Lagoon (1954)

remake:
cast: Brian Steele
director: Breck Eisner
screenwriter: Gary Ross
release date: 2008

From bloody-disgusting.com:
After a nearly two-year gap, Director Bruck Eisner is now in pre-production for his remake of Creature from the Black Lagoon, which has Strike Entertainment producing with Universal Pictures distributing, according to Variety. The script was written by Gary Ross, which follows a scientific expedition traveling up the Amazon River encounter a dangerous humanoid amphibious fish creature.

Damn it, it's going to be all CGI and lame. The Creature, other than Lon Chaney in 'London After Midnight', is one of my few childhood 'fears' that still creeps me out just by looking at a picture of it. Although it's more likely that a clown will kill me with an ax than it is that the gillman will attack me when I'm on a scientific expedition.

Suspiria (1977)

remake:
director: David Gordon Green (in talks)
screenwriter: Scott Heim (in talks)
release date: 2008

From hollywood-reporter.com:
Italy-based production company First Sun said Thursday that it has acquired the rights to make an English-language version of Dario Argento's 1977 horror classic "Suspiria."

"The original 'Susperia' had a unique style that we want to recapture and reinvest," First Sun chief Luca Guadagnino said. "The concept will encompass cinema, video games, fashion and music that will revive the original version and also include a psychological element to the film that was not there in the original."

Though the film is in the planning stages, Guadagnino said that he is seeking an international director not necessarily associated with the horror genre. First Sun is in talks with writer Scott Heim, who wrote the screen adaptation of "Mysterious Skin" in 2004, and David Gordon Green, who won the Discovery Award at the Toronto Film Festival for "George Washington" in 2000, Guadagnino said. More.

"The concept will encompass cinema, video games, fashion and music that will revive the original version and also include a psychological element to the film that was not there in the original." Uh. WHAT.

Did that guy misspell the title in that interview or did the website? Either way, FUCK YOU, HOLLYWOOD.

Pet Sematary (1989)

remake:
cast: George Clooney (rumored)
screenwriters: Dave Kajganich, Mike Werb and Michael Colleary
release date: 2008 2011

From bloody-disgusting.com:
We've scored one hell of a juicy little morsel of news this afternoon and have 100% confirmed it as true... George Clooney, the bad ass mofo from Dusk Till Dawn, will have a role in Paramount Pictures' remake of Stephen King's Pet Sematary! What we don't know is how big of a role he has, but he will be in the film, which was written by Dave Kajganich, Mike Werb and Michael Colleary. The film is based on Stephen King's story of a family moving to a small Maine town with a pet cemetery and an Indian burial ground, in 1989.

The original is near and dear to my heart (Fred Gwynne and Brad Greenquist were amazing in it), so I'm obvs pissed, but lol at the release date getting pushed back so far. Push it back a little further, bbs, preferably to 2111, when I'll be dead and unable to care.

Friday the 13th (1980)

remake:
screenwriter(s): Damian Shannon, Mark Swift
release date: 2008

From bloody-disgusting.com:
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed two previous reports over the past few days, the first being that Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (Freddy vs Jason) are set to write the remake of Friday the 13th for Platinum Dunes and New Line Cinema. The remake will focus on Jason Voorhees -- who will wear the mask and kill -- and keep the famous setting of Crystal Lake. More.

My personal least favorite horror franchise, not counting 'Leprechaun.' Compared to Freddy and Michael, Jason is pathetic. Not even the FIRST movie is good, especially as you see the "twist" a mile away.

Motel Hell (1980)

remake:
director: TBA
screenwriter: TBA
release date: 2008

From bloody-disgusting.com (posted Jan. 12, 2007:
It was announced today that MGM is remaking the '80s horror comedy Motel Hell and aiming to get it in theaters by December 7th, 2007. In the original Farmer Vincent kidnaps unsuspecting travelers and is burying them in his garden. Unfortunately for his victims, they are not dead. He feeds his victims to prepare them for his roadside stand. His motto is: It takes all kinds of critters...to make Farmer Vincents fritters.

Well, they're obviously not gonna make that December 7th release date.

You know they've gotten beyond desperate when they remake a forgotten spoof the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It has a guy running around wearing a hollowed out pig head. This movie scared me when I was little, but come the fuck on. Some episodes of MATLOCK scared me when I was little.

Creepshow (1982)

remake:
screenwriters: Stephen King (short story), Matthew Leutwyler
release date: 2008

From joblo.com:
The reason I dig this idea is because they're borrowing the CREEPSHOW concept, and update it with new stories. Basically this is CREEPSHOW 3 but calling it a sequel has a negative connotation so they're calling it a remake of the original. In this version they plan on having the stories appear at first to be unconnected (as they were in the original) but slowly start to come together with interconnected characters and situations. More.

Sequels have a bad connotation? Remakes have an even worse one. I love this movie so much, but this actually doesn't sound like a bad idea, if they ARE using new stories.

Terror Train (1980)

remake:
cast: Thora Birch, Gideon Emery, Derek Magyar, Gloria Votsis
director: Gideon Raff
screenwriter: Gideon Raff
release date: 2008

Yeah, guys, shortening the title that one extra word sure fooled everyone.

From movieweb.com:
Co-chairs of Family Room Entertainment Randall Emmett and George Furla stated: "We are very excited to be re-teaming with Steve (Whitney) and Andy (Trapani) on another horror remake. We are also thrilled to be working with Maverick Films, who bring an extraordinary depth of creative resources."

"Suspense on a train is a classic formula that's been relatively unexplored in recent years," said Andy Trapani and Steve Whitney of Integrated Films and Management.

Mark Morgan of Maverick Films stated: "Maverick has been looking for the right picture to collaborate with EFF and Integrated for some time. We are excited to start with Terror Train and believe this to be the first of many to come."

"The first of many to come"?

Oh, shit.

I'm so pissed on Jamie Lee Curtis's behalf. All of her horror films from the '70s/'80s have been remade, shittily so far (I'm looking at you, The Fog and Halloween). Although Thora Birch is awesome and I want to slap her for this, I suppose her response would just be, "THORA BIRCH GOTS TO GET PAID, GURL."

Scanners (1981)

>

remake:
director: Darren Lynn Bousman
screenwriter: David Goyer
release date: 2008

From rottentomatoes.com:
It's easy to remake old horror movies with newfangled CGI effects. Recapturing their spirit is another story. That's what David Goyer hopes to do with his script for "Scanners," originally David Cronenberg's telepathic exploding head movie from the '80s.

"'Scanners' is a great movie but it's also very dated to a certain extent," said Goyer. "Largely in socio-political terms it's very dated. Cronenberg's movies are always very political and very specific. That original film had a lot to do with corporate America and the Reagan years and all of that stuff and that's not what's happening now. So my whole thing was, and I love that movie and I don't want to ruin that movie, so it's not a slavish remake. It's kind of taking the best stuff from that and trying to apply the same sociopolitical template." More, here and here.

Well, I know Cronenberg's not happy.

A 'Saw' director, directing a remake. It's like everything I hate about current "horror" combined into an amoeba of suck.

Strangers on a Train (1951)

remake:
director: Noam Murro
screenwriter: David Seltzer
release date: 2008

From timeout.com:
First-timer Noam Murro (who was originally attached to 'The Ring Two' before Hideo Nakata took the reins) will direct, while David Seltzer ('The Omen', 'Bird on a Wire') will script.

The classic original was directed by Alfred Hitchcock and based on the novel by Patricia Highsmith, who also wrote the previously adapted 'The Talented Mr Ripley' and 'Ripley's Game'.

It told of a chance meeting between two men on a train that leads to the murder of one of their wives.

Hitchcock continues to roll in his grave. Just. Argh. No words, although I do recommend you see the original if you haven't already, because it kicks major ass. The IMDB board casting speculation posts are almost as painful as the idea of the remake itself.

April Fool's Day (1986)

remake:
cast: Scout Taylor-Compton, Jennifer Siebel, Josh Henderson, Samuel Child
directors: Mitchell Altieri and Phil Flores (as "The Butcher Brothers")
screenwriters: Mitchell Altieri and Phil Flores (as "The Butcher Brothers")
release date: April 1, 2008

Scout Taylor-Compton (aka Laurie Strode in Rob Zombie's Halloween remake) isn't bad. The writer/director team is responsible for 'The Hamiltons' from last year's Afterdark Horrorfest.

I always confused this movie with 'Happy Birthday to Me' as a kid.

The Evil Dead (1981)

remake:
director: TBA, although the first guy approached, Chan-wook Park, turned them down.
screenwriter: Sam Raimi.
release date: 2009

Bruce Campbell on the remake:
"We're going to do the remake and none of us feel bad about it because it's our own remake. We're not getting some 1970's TV show out of Aaron Spelling's file draw and making a movie. This is our own movie. So we're gonna update it for a new generation with new effects and tell a new story with a new cast. We'll be pulling the strings from behind. And hopefully they'll like it. I don't know when it will come about. It'll take a while to find a director and to write it and get it all set but it's gonna be made." More.

Sam Raimi, stop pissing me off.

The Birds (1963)

remake:
cast: Naomi Watts (rumored)
director: Martin Campbell
screenwriters: Paul Harris Boardman and Scott Derrickson
release date: July 3, 2009

Tippi Hedren, who starred in The Birds and became known as one of "Hitchcock's blondes" for her role as Melanie Daniels, said: "My telephone hasn't stopped ringing since it was announced.

''It's appalling, I find it so offensive. To take a work of art like that and try to copy it is like trying to imitate the Mona Lisa."
advertisement

Universal Studios has announced that the film, about a small Californian town terrorised by aggressive birds, is still in the development stage.

It will, like the 1963 original, be based on the short story by Daphne du Maurier.

More, here and here.

Hitch has been rolling in his grave ever since Psycho '98. And Universal has been dead to me ever since they removed Back to the Future: The Ride from their parks.

Hellraiser (1987)

remake:
directors: Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo
screenwriters: Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo
release date: 2009

Clive Barker was originally approached to write but I suppose turned it down. I love Barker, but these movies always made me lol, tbh.

Child's Play (1988)

remake:
director: Don Mancini (original writer; rumored)
screenwriter: Don Mancini (original writer; rumored)
release date: 2009

From an interview with producer David Kirschner on WHY:
"Look at 'Halloween'," he quickly responded. "It's kind of commerce to keep the franchise going, and another reason to go see it. For me, it's exciting, because the first one was really scary and then from there, we kind of… my favorites are 1 and 4. I love 4, it really makes me laugh and I think Jennifer Tilly is so great, but just the idea of going back to where we were the first time around and I think for me, it's almost 30 years later for me as a filmmaker from where I started to now, and the idea of taking some skill that maybe I didn't possess then and putting it towards the next film, I think could be exciting."

Would they possibly use the same script? "I think it would be pretty close to it, that's for sure, but there's some other things that we're exploring also, and some twists that we don't want the audience to expect, as far as a couple deaths, where you think you're going in one way and you're going to go in another way as a result of knowing it and it being such a popular franchise." These new developments may include learning more about Charles Lee Ray, although they're discussing whether series regular Brad Dourif will be back in that role and once again voicing Chucky.

But don't just assume that because we're well into the 21st Century that Chucky will be any sort of CG motion-captured creation. "It'll be an animatronic doll, like we do all of them, but animatronics have grown from when we did the first one 20 years ago. We just did the commentary on the 20th Anniversary of it, and all the stars, the little kid Andy Barkley, all of that, so that's coming out in January/February." More.

Okay, yeah, these movies got way ridiculous as the series went on, but the first one was PERFECT and I'll always have a soft spot for 'Bride of Chucky.'

The Wolf Man (1941)

remake:
cast: Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins
director: Mark Romanek
screenwriter: Andrew Kevin Walker
release date: February 13, 2009

From rottentomatoes.com:
Del Toro, an avid Wolf Man fan and collector himself, will play the titular hairy hero after he wraps Steven Soderbergh's Che Guevara biopic "Guerrilla" next year. As in the original, Del Toro will play a man bitten by a werewolf in Victorian England, although scripting by Andrew Kevin Walker ("Se7en") will update the story.

From Variety:
Walker spent several months working on some frightening new twists to a familiar tale, adding several characters and plot points that take advantage of cutting-edge visual effects technology.

Del Toro and Hopkins are in the Lon Chaney and Claude Rains roles. Uh, "plot points that take advantage of cutting-edge visual effects technology"? Shit speaks for itself.

childs play and hell raiser? whaa?

The love The Birds! My favorite part is when the children at the school are attacked! It was last saturday and I was watching it at the bar where Miguel worked, he was bartending, and I was having lunch and getting tipsy and making drunk comments about the movie out loud with my friends, it was so fun.

Jules, if you were to do that, make sure you include the song IF Your Girl Only Knew from her one in a million cd. I was pissed that it was not put on her greastest hits cd
