The process where you coat steel or iron with zinc to prevent corrosion. In this topic we shall use it as an word for a human coating. And stop rolling your eyes at me, I'll explain... We have different ways to shield ourselves from the big bad world. Some dress up in funny or extravagant ways, some wear their attitude as their shield. Imagine a clown that makes people laugh but finally shoots himself because he is miserable or how about a beautiful dancer that shines on stage but cuts herself behind the red curtain because she thinks she is fat. Roles, shields, galvanization... We all have them. I have noticed few of mine. One is to be extremely tough on myself and others, cold and strong. I crudely joke about my problems even when they hurt me inside because I do not want to be seen as weak or pathetic moaner. Often this mean that people think that I am fine when really I am not. We have all been galvanized so that the world would not hurt us but at the end, it happens anyway. We rust from within. |

I can see that we rust from within if we keep things inside ourselves, don't talk about our feelings. Or as happened with me and hubby we didn't talk and then all of a sudden it exploded out of us in anger and resentment. We try and keep things to ourselves but some people intuitively know when something is wrong. I think because however hard we try, things seep out of us but sometimes in unhelpful and destructive ways. |

Well I was trying to make a point of not only the shields around us but the fact that we cannot win. If we do not shield ourselves from the world, the world will corrupt and hurt us and if we do, we rust from within. We just cannot win. |

Oh yes we can win. It is not about shielding oneself. Its about conversion, being able to convert the negatives into a positive...or into a waste product to be gone for good, and thus fortifying and immunizing oneself against the same invasive emotions/thoughts/feelings/energy in the future. But there are still aspects of shielding oneself which are beneficial, for they can make us stronger. And the only ones who will rust from within are those who choose to continue to shield themselves instead of putting down that shield and fighting back. |
