Religion is very much a part of our lives whether we practice it or not because so much lobbying and legislation and lawmaking is often made with religious viewpoints in mind. From anti-gay marriage proposals here to entire dictaships in Muslim countries.

exactly. its very much a part of our lives. it aint goin nowhere, no matter how much you wish it so

^ Thats sadly true, Larisa

Woah, admire all the points made so far :)

I agree religion does more harm than good.
Im sick of the strong desire for power some people in some religions seem to have so badly !!!

I was raised catholic

But am I catholic at heart still ??? No.
As of just this year I detached myself from it

Im more into the spiritual side of things now than religion

Sydney has a massive religion war goin' on
Its probably in many citites worldwide but Sydney has the biggest religion hatin' problems in all of Australia, hands down

Its been goin' strong since there were these gang rapes
That was all based on religion hatred

We've only had a few riots
But the hatred has gone far deeper

Most or half of Sydney once wasnt so freakin' foolish
We were united and only a few fools were about

Theres a huge divide now
Even tourists can feel it
Its pathetic

Some have been tryin' to bridge the gap here in Sydney
But then somethin' like this happens .... ....

THE nation's most senior Muslim cleric has blamed immodestly dressed women who don't wear Islamic headdress for being preyed on by men and likened them to abandoned "meat" that attracts voracious animals.
In a Ramadan sermon that has outraged Muslim women leaders, Sydney-based Sheik Taj Din al-Hilali also alluded to the infamous Sydney gang rapes, suggesting the attackers were not entirely to blame.

While not specifically referring to the rapes, brutal attacks on four women for which a group of young Lebanese men received long jail sentences, Sheik Hilali said there were women who "sway suggestively" and wore make-up and immodest dress ... "and then you get a judge without mercy (rahma) and gives you 65 years".

"But the problem, but the problem all began with who?" he asked.

The leader of the 2000 rapes in Sydney's southwest, Bilal Skaf, a Muslim, was initially sentenced to 55 years' jail, but later had the sentence reduced on appeal.

In the religious address on adultery to about 500 worshippers in Sydney last month, Sheik Hilali said: "If you take out uncovered meat and place it outside on the street, or in the garden or in the park, or in the backyard without a cover, and the cats come and eat it ... whose fault is it, the cats or the uncovered meat?

"The uncovered meat is the problem."

He has been given no punishment.
As most expected.

Even other muslims were outraged by his comments

When asked if he was sorry by one reporter
He said "I will not stop till the white house is out of power"

So ehh theres a lot of hatred between religions happenin' here
Big shame and a disgrace

Religon is suppose to be where someone can go to when life gets too hard, to reach into their faith and know what was right and wrong, but now it is being used as a form of control. I find it rather insulting that the religon that I hold in my heart is also being used to scare people to vote the way poloticains want them to. Religon should be about bringing people together, loving one another, but all it does is tear people apart. That's why I agree with keeping it out of schools. It is such a touchy subject and a hot button that people seem to be up in revolt when they realize you don't believe what they believed. That's why I find the jews that live in Jerusalam pure traitors. It wasn't long ago that Hitler was trying to wipe them off the map, and they have the audacity to turn around and sentence someone else to burn in hell. Religon is doing more harm than it is good. Name three times when an politican got up and said, "We're all chritians here. Let's handle this like honest people." Never because not all of them are. But times will change. They always do.

Religion isn't flexible enough to take account of all the different people in the world. How many people are totally good or totally bad? But that is what religion is based on. That's what makes them so certain they are right and everyone else is wrong. They deal in certainties that don't exist in this world.

All organized religion does is give people an excuse to hate and hurt others. It gives them a reason not to like people and the ablity to take out their own insucurities on others. Now the big thing among people of organized religion is to claim it's not organized that it's a relationship yet they still act just as bad as the others and they still go to church and carry out everything of what organized religion is.

anything that I do has nothing to do with a god. I do everything without any god on my side which is the way that I want it!
