Im not particularly sure.

My first thought, even though I want to have a big family, is yes, do a background check. if the person has a shitty job, super low income, and has some sort of mental illness (that is out of control) or is an alcoholic or is a druggy, there should be some way from preventing them to bring an innocent life into all of that.

But morally, I dont think we could do that. As much as I dont want bad people to have kids, there is no official way of seperating the 'bad' parents from the 'good' parents. And how can you STOP them from having kids anyway? There isn't any sure fire way.

I plan to adopt as well as have my own children in the future. Sadly, it costs so much money and takes so much time that not alot of people are up to that or they are too egotistical to want to take care of someone not of their own blood

There's a sure fire way to prevent people from having children have them spayed or nutered then there's no way they can. I think those with a history of child abuse, neglect, or a history of molestation or rape should not be aloud to reproduce and if they do the child should be taken from them.

Ok first I do agree on many of the things Jesse said.

The world would benefit from less people being in it. I agree with the idea of adoption and fostering on the grounds that it's selfish to bring more life into the world where so many are still crying out for parents who aren't there. It's a sad fact that those brought up in care or in children's homes go on to have problems in adult life. Many of the offenders at work lacked a stable, loving upbringing. And it seems to be exactly these people who keep breeding. People who's parents had kids young tend to do so themselves. The cycle of povery and stupidity continues.

I don't agree with taxing people for having kids, these kids are the ones who will look after us when we are old by continuing to do the jobs needed to keep countries running. But I do think people should be required to take some sort of parenting test, if they don't pass it they can't have kids. Sterilisation is a good option! It's not about money it's about parenting ability, although I can see that those with least money are often the ones doing a bad job of parenting.

For me personally....I do want a child of my own, but Rick still doesn't so it won't happen. I feel more and more that time is running out for me, although of course the worthier options of adoption or fostering are still open and still worth considering. I would ideally want to stay at home with a child when they were small, which financially at the moment I couldn't do that's another reason why not.

hmmm, let me think of something.

Oh Jesse, ever see this political commentator guy named Glenn Beck? I caught him this weekend, never saw him before. I was only watching it cause at first I thought he was Donny Deutch, whom he looks a lot like. He is an imbecile!! He was saying that americans need to have more kids, because american culture is being lost and we need to reproduce more to keep our culture in tact. He was saying that all americans should have like 5 kids.

And he was saying that the only reason why our population is still growing is because the illegal immigrants are the ones doing the reproducing, they are having a lot of kids and they are passing their cultures onto their kids instead of the american culture. Who gives a fuck about american culture? That wont matter in 50 years when the food supply is nearly bankrupt to support the world's enormous population.

here is the email I sent:

Glenn,

I caught your show this saturday for the first time. I was flipping through the channels and stopped on you initially because I thought you were Donny Deutch (you look a lot like him) but I stayed and watched. I just wanted to comment mainly on what you were talking about with regards to Iran's president urging his people to have more children, and how you said that you think that americans should also have more children than just two. Your reason why you think we should all have more kids is to preserve american culture. This bothers me on so many levels, it was ludicris and appalling to me that you are urging americans to have more kids. While I dont think that there should be restrictions on how many kids we should have, as is necessary in countries like China and India, I still dont think that anyone in this country needs to be encouraged to have as many kids as possible. And for a few reasons:

1. Natural resources: our planet is entering a crisis phase in human history. We are using up way too many of our planets natural resources way too fast. We are taking from the earth at a much faster rate than we are replenishing back. Especially with fossil fuels. And our country is one of the biggest culprits of this. This is no joke. We are already seeing the effects of global warming. If we dont start to change things now, in another 20-40 years we are going to be running out or completely out of oil, water, food supply to sustain the planet. Our climates are going to drastically change, which will affect farmers and agriculture. Certain places on the globe will become uninhabbitable, which means less space for all of these americans that you want to add to this country.

More people being added to the population, along with the people that are already here whom are living longer, means that we will need more food, more land to build houses which means more of our forrests and other natural land that should be preserved will be destroyed so that more houses and malls could go up. Which also means an increase in garbage and sewage accumluation which also needs a place to go. And if the employment sector doesnt expand enough to fit the large population, that means higher unemployment, which means more strain on taxpayers to pay for people to be on welfare and unemployment. I am truely frightened of what america and the world is going to look like in 50 years. I have major doubts that life will be as it is now. I think it will be a lot like it is in that movie, Solent Green where the majority of us are poor, starving, unemployed and living out in the street. I am 29 years old now so if by then things are like that, if I am not already dead I wont have too many years left anyway, but I worry about a future like that for my future children or grandchildren. Overpopulation is not something that our country or any country can afford right now. What the hell would american culture matter if we are all starving and homeless and dying? Basic needs such as food, shelter and finances I think takes presidence over "preserving" our culture. Which brings me to my next point.....

2. American culture: please enlighten me on which part of american culture is so precious that you think we should preserve it? Are you talking about preserving how materialistic and wasteful we are? How we take everything and everyone for granted? How we preach how much freedom we have when freedom in this country is a joke, when certain segments of the population are not allowed to get married cause some of us are too judgemental? How pompous and arrogant we are? Do you want to preserve gay bashing? Racial inequality? Do you want to preserve the moral highground of christian hypocrites who want to impose their hateful morals on everyone? Is that the great and wonderful american culture that you think we so desperately need to preserve?

Maybe you need to think about the really important things to humanity before you go spouting off that immigrants need to stop reproducing in this country and passing on their culture and that they need to conform to our "wonderful" culture and that we should have 4 kids instead of 2 to pass on such a hypoctratic, selfish culture to more people.

Thanks for listening,

Michele G
