-Kohei Academy-

Main Gate

Paul glanced towards Sarai and Connor, wishing he could help with their issues, but that was something he didn't have any experience about.

Well, he'd be there to help them if they needed it, at least.

“Heh, yah, Dad's really strong,” Maize nodded, then waved towards Chloe. “I'mma go check on others, see yah around sis!”

With that, Maize bounded away, Edda looking slightly nervous.

“Well... why don't we go find the others?” Edda suggested, “I think I saw Rumi earlier...”

Aiden smiled towards Soon-Lee and Musashi, then sighed slightly as Aizawa grabbed Musashi.

“Mr. Aizawa, please don't be too hard on them before the day has even officially begun. Wait until after the opening ceremonies, okay?” Aiden asked, moving forward now to head to the school.

Markus waved goodbye to his sister, then turned his attention back to Soon-Lee and Musashi.

“It's good to meet you two!” Markus smiled. “I don't have any questions, my sister answered many of them before hand. I can't wait to see what the opening ceremony is!”

Sayuri hesitated for a moment, knowing what Nanami was thinking, moving towards her cousin and placing a hand on Nanami's arm.

“Don't worry... I'll be okay! But I think he would want us to be happy about all this, right? He wouldn't like you being all mopey about him all the time,” Sayuri said carefully. Taichi had been her cousin as well...

“But where's that Marco guy anyways? You always brighten up when he's around!” Sayuri then said, smiling mischievously. “Nanami and Marco, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G~”

“It might not even be a combat test though...” Hammah said towards Kay. “Who knows...”

Then Sama emerged from the bushes, causing Hammah to jump slightly.

“...Why were you in the bushes?” Jimi asked, completely ignoring Sama's mention of Kimi being happy to see them, on the grounds that he didn't believe it in the slightest.

“Oh I am gonna push my luck right up to the edge and then jump it off the cliff,” Cess said with a grin once Barbara was out of earshot, then glanced towards Strobe.

“You sure you don't want any back up?” he asked.

-Horikoshi City-

Airport

Walter briefly fought with his dislike of other people and the fact he should encourage Erin not being a shut in, then nodded.

“It... won't be an issue,” Walter said carefully. “There is enough room though may be a little cramped.”

Crime Scene

Barry entered the crime scene, grimacing at the grisly visage that was presented.

He pulled out a camera, taking pictures carefully to help preserve the crime scene, before he started to gather up some evidence.

“Do we know who lived here?” Barry asked Pharah.

Might not necessarily be the person who was chopped up here, after all.

"But would he even know what a surveillance bug looked like?" Rumi retorted to Paul, with a little laugh.

"I wouldn't worry too much! You two have a bond too strong now for someone to come along now and pull you two apart!" Rumi then answered Sarai and Connor's conversation, "Just watch out for any bald guys with barcodes on their neck!"

With that, she spun away to look at one of the clocks near the front gate, taking note that it was getting close to when the 'opening ceremonies' probably would take place, and spoke again.

"Also, going to have to give a raincheck on the school tour. Pretty close to when the bigwigs are probably going to get people involved in a introductory event. Since you both are new here, you won't have a choice whether or not to volunteer as tribute, or whatever they always said in those books you were really into, Sarai, so... Make sure you guys are on your A-game!"

And please don't lose your tongue, Sarai

======================================

"I guess that's fair. I'm not sure if they'd allow a returning student to team with a freshman either, actually, or I'd try to team with my sis, too." Dion then looked around, actually surprised to not see Serafina around. Once they got here, she seemed to just have disappeared.

...possibly because she didn't want to have to sit around through seeing her brother and his girlfriend possibly acting mushy mushy around each other.

"I'll be rooting for you though, Elysia! ...And Serafina!" his eyes then shifted to the Kyran who was also here, "...and, uhh, you too, Kyran... and. ...umm, I'm not rooting against anyone, but... yeah..."

Sarai watched her boyfriend's expression carefully, biting her lip. It wasn't that asking the boy to meet her family was a crazy request- well crazy for a normal person- but her family was...interesting to say the least. Best case scenario Genius was indifferent towards her beau, worst case he would try to have Connor killed.

She would never let that happen of course.

“... but at the same time... Sarai, I... I think we could have a future together, you know? So maybe... I should meet them? I mean, I'd have to eventually...”

Sarai's eyes lit up at the agreement, hoping that this would be the step that would finally stop the two from having to hide. She smiled up at him, leaning in and quickly giving him a kiss. "Y-You will!? Thank you!!"

Hopefully this wouldn't come back and bite the girl in the butt later.

[...]

“I'mma go check on others, see yah around sis!”

Chloe gave a wave to her sister, turning back to Edda with a slightly sheepish look on her face. "Maize can be....A lot...Sometimes, but she a hell of a sister"

While it was true that Chloe and Maize were only half sisters the two had always gotten along. Perhaps it was because of their shared quirk, or perhaps because they shared a dad who cared greatly for them and encouraged their strength rather than trying to hide it away. Either way Chloe looked up to her older sister and cared greatly about her opinion.

Even if she wouldn't always say it out loud.

"For what it's worth I think you take dad in a fight" Chloe said as the two headed towards Rumi and the others. "You're smart, and resourceful. You'd actually give him a pretty good fight probably!"

Connor smiled and felt his heart jump in his chest from the quick kiss; even now that still happened every time. He was worried about this, of course. Sarai's family seemed... intense, but this was clearly important to her, and he didn't want to have to hide anyway. Besides, how bad could they be?

Bad but at least it's not Kanna.

Aizawa just gave a 'tch' as he looked over to Aiden. “... They gotta learn. Better they learn from me than from some villain on the streets. Anyway... that loudmouth is about to make the announcement any minute... so you'd all better hurry.”

Musashi, now back on his feet, just sighed a bit as he glanced over to Markus and Soon-Lee. “We'll find out any minute, sounds like.”

Nanami was frozen in place for a moment as Sayuri actually brought up her brother. She closed her eyes. Were it almost anyone else in the world saying something like that, she would have snapped. She knew her brother wouldn't want her like this... but the images of his death were forever burned into the inside of her eyelids, and she couldn't pretend otherwise.

Then Sayuri changed the subject entirely, and Nanami just grimaced. “... I don't know where he is. And don't sing that.”

Sama just shrugged, and waved his mechanical arm. “Kimi tossed my arm out the window, so I had to go find it. She does that sometimes.”

Bianca had gone very quiet... from Jimi's intense stare-down with Kimi, to this strange new teacher... it was all a bit weird. But she didn't want to be rude.

“Hey HEY HEY HEY! Attention all students!”

The incredibly loud, booming voice that sounded like a radio jockey suddenly blared across the entirety of the campus.

Posted Image

A loud, blond man with sunglasses and headphones was broadcasting his voice all across the campus, from the main gates, to the halls of the school – and it would be practically impossible not to hear him. Present Mic was one of the heroes working at the school.

“WELCOME to a new year here at Kohei Academy! As I'm sure most of you know, first-day it's time for E-VAL-U-ATIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONS! Those of you rooming at the school, drop off your stuff now; and get your butts to the back of the sch-oooool! A hero must always be ready, so you'd better do it fast!”

[Horikoshi City]
[Airport]

“Um...” Arnold paused, as he checked his watch. “Not to be rude, or overstep my place, but... I think we should go. It's getting late and I'd hate to miss the opening ceremony...”

Actually, he would be okay not showing off his Quirk a little while longer.

[Crime Scene]

Fareeha tapped a few buttons on her wrist, and then waited as some information loaded on her helmet's visor. She frowned. “... We do, Barry, and it gives us somewhere for you to start on that ID, Didymus...”

“... The house is registered to a Brian Fitzgerald. Also known as 'Babel'. He was a registered hero. According to our files, his Quirk was one that allowed him to immediately understand and speak any language, fluently, just from hearing someone speak it. He previously worked as an interpreter for... the US Army?”

She frowned, as she read those words. “Apparently he retired from the army two years ago and moved down here to be a teacher at Kohei.”

She glanced over to the 'body'. “If that's Brian Fitzgerald, then we have a hero with connections to both Kohei and the US military slain in his own home in an extremely brutal fashion... we need to confirm the body's ID immediately. This case just became extremely complicated.”

Didymus nodded at the notion that the owner of the house may not be the victim, wondering why he didn't think of that, but on the other hand, he wasn't the detective-he had a very specific job to do here, and he was focused on that.

"A US Army interpreter? Hm." Didymus said, seemingly a tad surprised by the news, but he approached the largest hunk of what was left of the body. Grimacing at what he had to do, he drew a small pad from his vest-his motions awkward by the fact that a rather sizable, and very sturdy, briefcase was still handcuffed to his right wrist.

He approached one of the severed arms/hands, and paused for a moment.

"Forgive me, Father, please, I mean no disrespect to the departed."

As gently as he could, he grabbed the hand, and, wiping/washing it off best he could with a nearby sink and a rag, he applied the hand to the pad he had drawn, then entered some data into it.

"We have a fingerprint match. Crime forensics is NOT my field, but I think that confirms it. Unless we need to run a search on all of these various...parts?" he said.

"Otherwise, what do we need to do now? We have a confirmation that this is in fact the victim, and we can supply the police with his identity..."

“Well that's not very nice,” Kay said to Sama. She didn't know much of anything about Kimi and Sama's dynamic. She just knew there was something a but screwed up about taking an arm and throwing it away from its owner.

And then Mic's announcement played throughout the campus! “Oh! Oh we should get going!”

--

Strobe took a deep, agitated breath. “Okay ghost-boy, do what you want, I really don't care.”

She then turned to him. “But if you get me in trouble, I'll beat your face in.”

“Don't do that!” Shimera shouted, hugging Cess and giving Strobe the Puppy Eyes. “You'll mess up his pretty face!”

Strobe responded by shaking her head, before Mic's announcement was made.

“Come on, we don't wanna be late!” Shimera cried out, running ahead.

“Hey HEY HEY HEY! Attention all students!”

Sarai could have spent all day kissing Connor, but a voice broke through the crowds of students causing the girl to jump and immediately look up.

As I'm sure most of you know, first-day it's time for E-VAL-U-ATIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONS!

"Evaluations...." Sarai said quietly, looking to Rumi. She had done a lot of studying to prepare her for Kohei, but evaluations sounded a bit more physical.... "What exactly does an evaluations mean?"

She doubted it was safe.

“Oh it's fine.” Sama shrugged off the issue of Kimi throwing his arm away. He just shrugged, and then started to grin as the announcement played.

“... Good luck, students.” Sama shook his head, slipping his hands into his pockets. He paused, and just couldn't help but give a slight spoiler. “As for the test... just watch out for the color yellow, okay?”

He gave a slight grin to himself, and then hurried off back towards the school building – he couldn't wait to see the show.

Connor frowned a bit, sensing Sarai's hesitation and he put his arm around her to reassure her. “I'm sure it'll be fine, Sarai. They wouldn't give us anything too dangerous on day one...”

The students made a mad scramble across the campus, many dashing to the dorms to stash away what they needed to before the evaluations. The straggler students who hadn't yet arrived would soon arrive at the school, and before long, the students were all being ushered to a large clearing behind the school.

Present Mic once more spoke across the entire school grounds, so he could be heard by all.

“OOOOOOOOOOO-KAY! It's time, time TIME! Of course this is mostly to test the newbies, but returning students are allowed to participate on a voluntary basis as well! Now to explain it all, it's ALLLLLLLLLLLL MIGHT!"

A moment later, and it was a different voice being amplified – a known voice, of the Symbol of Peace.

“Students, new and old! Welcome to your opening evaluation! In just a moment, you will all be teleported away from Kohei's grounds – do not be alarmed! It is perfectly safe, and all part of the test! Where will you go?”

All Might – who was standing on the roof, grinning as ever, looked out over the grounds. “Behind the island on which Kohei sits are three other islands, all created to serve as training grounds! Today, you'll be going to 'City Island' – it is an island designed to be a replica city! There are skyscrapers and restaurants and streets and hotels and everything else you would expect from a city; although no one actually lives there.”

“Well... that's not exactly true! Within that city are several 'dolls', which you will be tasked with rescuing! The 'dolls' are all life-sized, coming in different shapes, sizes and weights, all meant to emulate people. After all, a hero must be prepared to save a 30lbs child or a 300lbs adult! Your test will be to search the city for these dolls, and bring them to one of four safe 'blue zones' – which you will find at the northern, eastern, western and southern entrances of the city. If you retrieve an intact and safe doll to a blue zone, you will be awarded with points!”

All Might elaborated further. “Now these dolls are special... all of them are designed with shock sensors in their arms, legs, chest and head. These sensors will detect any impact or collisions that happen to the dolls. The sensors in the arms and legs are designed to 'go off' if they are hit with the type of force that would break a normal person's bones. Any dolls who you rescue that have broken limbs, you'll lose some points for each broken limb. Now... and this is important... the sensors on the chest and head are designed to go off if the doll the type of injury that would damage the heart of brain. In other words, if that happens, that means that doll has 'died' – and you will lose a great deal of points if a doll you are saving is 'killed'. After all, a hero's most important job is to save people in need!”

He rubbed his chin. “Ah, but of course, this wouldn't be much of a challenge if all you had to do was carry some dolls... you will find a number of 'villains' all throughout the city! Do not worry – they are not real villains, merely various robots will ill-intention! They come in many different types, some more dangerous than others. Let me be very clear; they will be attacking the dolls and trying to 'kill' them – and if you attempt to save the dolls, then the robots will attack YOU as well! It will be real, and it will really be dangerous – but a hero must face danger! Plus, you will also receive points for defeating the robots as well, since a hero must also defeat threats!”

After a moment, he quickly added: “However, do not worry, because no one will actually die! If anyone is seriously hurt, the teachers are standing by to save you! Oh, and there will be a special prize for whoever gets the most points – so do your best! Gather your courage and Go Beyond! Plus, Ultra!”

The moment that All Might had finished speaking, a strange sensation would overcome the students – wherever they were – and suddenly they were teleported instantly from Kohei Academy, to one of the islands behind it...

[City Island]

[North Safe Zone]

As the students appeared, they would find themselves in a large open area just outside of the 'city'. The ground beneath them was pavement, but it was glowing a slight blue. One of the 'safe zones' All Might had mentioned before.

Ahead of them was a city, which looked much like Horikoshi, although smaller and more artificial. It resembled a city, full of buildings and cars, restaurants and stores, streets and telephone poles – but there didn't appear to be any actual people.

The test had begun!

[Horikoshi City]

[Crime Scene]

Pharah sighed deeply. She had a feeling the fingerprints would match, but that didn't make it any easier. She sighed.

“We'll pass that on to the police, of course, but judging from the brutality of this scene, this is a case that the Association will have to work. Consider this... Mr. Fitzgerald was known to have a Quirk, but one that was simply the ability to comprehend languages instantly. Undoubtedly useful in many ways, but not in a fight. However, he was former military, so it's likely he could put up a fight... but...”

She looked around the room again. “... Just look at the slash marks. Someone had a very large bladed weapon, or weapons, and used it with ferocious results. While you certainly don't need a Quirk to kill someone with a blade, the brutality, the strength behind the slashes, and the fact that we have a victim who should have been able to defend himself... it all points to a killer with a Quirk.”

She sighed once more. “We'll have to search our databases for anyone with a license who has any Quirk associated with blades of any kind. Especially criminals. The police have likely also canvased the neighborhood, so we should find out if there were any witnesses who may have seen the killer.”

She sighed. “... He worked for the Academy, and before that, the military. It's possible he could have had enemies for either of those... but whoever did this... is probably someone who has killed before, and will do so again.”

This was it! This was the time! He had to prove that he could be a hero...

“Come on Samara!” Blake said as the test began, “Let's save as many as we can!”

Blake dashed forward, turning into a cloud of shadows to increase his speed, zooming across the ground and into the city proper itself!

Markus paused as he looked around. A test to save people, and to stop villains? Interesting...

He grinned, focusing his Quirk now, a translucent armor appearing around him as he rushed forward as well!

“Alright, Elysia!” Kyran said, grinning as she looked towards Elysia, “Work together?”

Elysia nodded, feeling her electricity spark around her. “You handle getting the civilians, I'll handle the robots, sound good?”

Kyran gave a thumbs up, and the girls ran off!

Jens smiled, resting a hand on his sword.

“Of course... a good King must always be ready to stand for his subjects,” Jens said, drawing his sword, which seemed to shine slightly in the light, then moved forward as well, eying the others, to decide who might be good to borrow a Quirk from...

“Awesome, we can do this!” Jimi said to Hammah, who nodded. It would be a difficult test... but it was something they were confident with. Despite being made by a villain, they had learned how to restrict damage...

Edda, being in his second year, had decided to hang back for this test... He wanted to see just what his cousin was going to do in it too though...

Barry took more pictures, studying the scene as well as he took a few samples for later testing.

“He might not have been killed by the blade though,” Barry suggested. “He could have been killed some other way, and the villain took their time to... make this mess. Cover their tracks. I'll run some tests back at the lab to see if that was the case.”

Taking up Walter's offer for a quick ride, Lavan was definitely for getting to the academy quickly. The morning flight were for the final student arrivals, and it was a rush to get everything done in the morning to be ready for whatever announcements and events the Kohei Academy would reveal for its newest arrivals. And Lavan was definitively in the group that wanted to get right into the classes and get learning.

With light jokes, strange turns of words and weirder conversation segueing, his affable and bright personality and constant chatter, Lavan was definitely showing himself a very energetic, if not slightly manic sort. He was as ready to throw out a joke of the ribald variety as much as to throw out a surprisingly cunning littler rib, no matter who it was. Even Walter wasn't spared a little light ribbing, Lavan was certainly the sort of person that seemed entirely unafraid of authority or the possibilities of getting on the nerves of perceived betters.

It was as if he was letting out his own version of tension, talking a-mile-a-minute and generally goofing off.

Nonetheless, the group managed to make it to the academy just as the initial announcement by Present Mic was called out. Lavan quickly parted from his newfound friends with a promise to find them later and zipped away with his large, eye-catching neon-red luggage, stopping by his assigned dorm room for just long enough to drop off his things, before dashing right back to be present for the next part of the show.

Unfortunately, he couldn't find his newly-made friends that quickly, and ended up in a different part of the gathered crowd, listening to the announcement made by Present Mic and All Might. That alone was enough to brighten his eyes as he watched THE Hero of Heroes announce the first day's event and the first 'examination'. It was definitely along the academy's style, to give an examination of skill first-day in, to be doubtlessly watched by the faculty, judged and deconstructed until a student's particular strengths, weaknesses and abilities were analyzed, the curriculum then built around catering to the individual student.

It was a surprisingly refined and effective process. And Lavan couldn't wait to experience it all.

Nonetheless, the examination itself intrigued him. It was a pretty involved rescue operation, very much reminiscent of mass attacks or assaults by villains, where many targets were in danger from many villainous sources. It tested caution, ability, integrity, and a whole assortment of other traits.

It also presented Lavan with an incredible problem. His own quirk was volatile and less than controllable. Even now, he was simply holding it back, much like one would hold their breath, or perhaps more pointedly clenching their backside to avoid passing gas. It was so tempting to simply let go of that tension that was a constant in his life now, but it would be dangerous if he did, especially here.

More to the point, his quirk at its current volatile state wasn't meant for RESCUE. He could try, sure, but he knew very well that out of all the possible elements available, his was one of the most dangerous to himself AND others, especially civilians. And if these dolls were anything like crash test dummies, their tolerance for damage would be quite low.

It would be sheer luck that would get him to pass this solo. He couldn't depend on his own abilities to do the rescuing, but that wasn't the only ability he could depend on. He was, after all, adept at the element of fire and supposedly creative enough in its utility. He had several possible options open before him: He could seek someone else to team up with for the moment, he could simply seek out the faux-villains and attack them directly, thus drawing attention and making sure that more targets got rescued by those with more adept quirks... He had options. He certainly wasn't short on them.

In the end, however, he decided that his plan would be a combination of the two first thoughts he had. Find someone more adept at rescuing, then be the assault unit that draws attention away while the teammate would do the important job of rescuing.

And Lavan was GOOD at distraction tactics.

... Lavan cheered loudly when he heard the Kohei Academy Motto, calling out his own "PLUS ULTRA!!!", right as he was whisked away...

Several meters away from Lavan's hand-rubbing, menacingly-cackling form stood Riley and his sister, both keeping well away from the maniacal redhead. Riley himself had simply given his pack to Aislinn, who shouldered it without any comment or complaint. He didn't know exactly where his dorm should be, and his hesitation and lack of action meant he didn't have time to drop off his things.

And now, Aislinn was carrying two packs upon her back, though with seemingly no additional effort or difficulty.

And the examination had him even more nervous. Unlike Lavan, whose family and who himself had studied much about the Kohei Academy of Heroes, Riley knew very little about what their procedures were like. Having a test out the gate, a RESCUE MISSION at that with dolls posing as civilians and faux-villains trying to attack the dolls... Riley didn't know what to think. He didn't know what to DO. There was no way to prepare for this, he didn't have the time to even come up with an appropriate PLAN!

A seed of panic began to settle into him, and he had to consciously keep himself breathing evenly and deeply. He also needed to make a conscious effort to ignore that incessant melodic buzz that grew louder when his thoughts referenced a plan of some sort.

He was beginning to shake when a hand pressed itself against his arm, gripping tightly. Riley took a deep breath and let it out, drawing strength from the surprisingly emphatic motion from the girl standing next to him, though she didn't look at the boy at all and continued to stare straight ahead at All Might as he finished his announcement. Her focus never wavered, and she looked like she was trying to memorize every inflection, every word, every detail she could.

So it was to Riley's complete surprise that he suddenly found himself feeling funny, and then looking at entirely different scenery. The melodic buzz in his head multiplied as information suddenly torrented into his thoughts, along with possibilities, improvements, changes...

He had to honestly wrest his own mind back into his own hands, clenching his eyes shut and breathing deeply. IT felt like ages before the torrent settled down, but settle down it did and he let out a shaky breath.

Aislinn's grip never faltered through his entire private episode, and as he finally took control of his own faculties again, she released his arm, patted him on the shoulder and let her hand drop. He shot a grateful look at the girl, drew himself up straight again and focused ahead of him...

Kay's heart was in her throat. She never learned how to fight, and now she had to face robots. She clenched her fists, trying to hide the fact that she was shaking a little.

“My Quirk can be useful here,” she thought. Her ability to see into the future may help her find the dolls, but she wasn't sure. She had mentioned before; it was an ability that had to be triggered. She couldn't force a vision. It worked more like like jogging a memory she wouldn't have yet.

Her telekinesis would be limited, but it would help keep from coming back with injured dolls.

But, fighting? She wasn't good at that at all. A mix of anxiety and excitement filled her entire being. How could one not be pumped at the “PLUS ULTRA” motto?

“Do you want to see how much tougher you got?” Shimera asked Strobe.

Strobe shrugged. “Nah. I'll have that chance later in the year. This is for the new kids to shine.” She sat down on the ground. She was really wanting a smoke right about now.

“Aww okay. What about you, Cess?”

Summer was relieved that she had arrived just in time. The group did get a little separated, but she knew how to handle herself. She always wanted to become a T-Rex and fight a robot. She had some interesting life goals.

She popped her knuckles and smirked. “Plus Ultra!” she shouted as she crouched, ready to become some sort of wildcat to run in.

GRAPPLING HOOK!

-City Island-

Campus

As her siblings disappeared Joyce smiled, taking that as her cue to let them be for the time. They'd be fine without her....Though she was curious how they would fare in evaluations.

[...]

“Hey, do us students not going in get to watch what's going on?”

"Surely you don't want to relive that misery!" Chloe said, looking around the group of older students left behind. "I knocked the heads off of three dummies last year, and accidentally punched through one of their chests trying to give it CPR"

She laughed as if it was a fond joke, when in truth it cost her an extra two hour class on hero-civilian relations.

North Safe Zone

As she often did Samara appeared beside Blake when he landed in the arena, the girl looking around with a small frown on her lips.

“Come on Samara! Let's save as many as we can!”

The girl gave a nod, but continued to frown as she disappeared, channeling herself back into his powers as he made a dash forward into the center of town. Even though she was not physical at the moment she watched out in a sense, keeping an eye out for the robots there were apparently suposed to destroy.

Blake could handle the saving people, she would do what came naturally.

[...]

Sarai landed with a loud thump, the girl scrambling up to take in the new surroundings. This couldn't be right....She shouldn't have been able to come here. She wasn't a superhero, she wasn't even training to be one! She wanted to work for The Hero's Association, to be the person who aided the ones who saved the day.

But apparently evaluations didn't differentiate and she was stuck here, wondering just how in the world SHE was going to save anyone.

The girl then blinked, remembering that she had just been kissing her boyfriend. She whipped around looking for him. "C-Connor!?"

Kanna's Building

On the twenty-second floor of a giant office building, in an office that looked like it would belong to a CEO of a company or perhaps a rich banker Kanna sat, working on some paperwork for some arrangements she was making. Beside her sat this morning's paper, the top story telling of the discovering of a high profile trader's mysterious murder the night before. The man had knowingly been corrupt, but with none of his money missing , nor any of his expensive jewelry or paintings it really was a mystery of who would have done such a thing- and why.

Of course Kanna didn't need money, jewelry or art. She was more interested in a large piece of land and dockside property that the man had left behind. Land so high profile the man hadn't told a soul he owned it....

Well except for a beautiful raven-haired woman he had met in a bar last night and took home for a private rendevous.

Kanna tapped the newly acquired deed with the tips of her nails, debating whether or not to call Melanie to thank her for the gift. Her daughter returned early in the morning, tossing it down on her desk in a huff before disappearing off again, probably heading home. She hadn't even accepted her offer to stay for breakfast, instead saying something about getting the kids off to school.

[City Island]

[City Streets]

As the hooded figure known as Soon-Lee left the North Safe Zone, he could feel a strange sensation transitioning between the two areas. He looked back and placed his hand against the air between the two areas and could feel something barely tangible.

"Hmmm..." he said to himself, "Must be some kind of force-field. Makes sense for a 'safe zone', I guess..."

He turned forward again and began walking the streets.

"Guess I better be ready for anything. Should give myself better transportation..."

Soon-Lee reached within his baggy cloak and pulled out a plastic spoon. He squeezed it and within moments the spoon disintegrated into nothing, and in front Soon-Lee appeared a floating disk. He jumped on the disk and began riding it in the air, looking around for signs of either dolls to save or attacking robots to defend against. Though the robots might not attack with finding one of the former first.

"Everything seems so quiet so far..." he whispered to himself, continuing to survey the area.

-Crime scene-

Didymus listened, and decided to speak up in relation to some of what was said...

"In fairness, one doesn't need a quirk to kill someone who can defend themselves, quirk or no quirk, even with just a blade..." he said. "...these things MAY indicate a quirk, but I believe it would be a bit of an assumption to think they HAD one without further evidence...and while I concur on checking with our databanks to see if we have anyone who matches this MO...I would also suggest that if indeed this murderer is a repeat offender, than barring his being caught before...maybe he deliberately avoided being registered? I'm not saying that we SHOULDN'T check, just that it may be worth it to keep in mind all possibilities here...though really, I suppose we can't tell if he's a repeat offender or not. He certainly appears to have the brutality or at least callousness, if the brutality is a ruse, as you suggest-" he said, nodding at Barry, "-to be a repeat offender...I'm not trying to be contrarian, mind you, I'm simply trying to keep us from making any assumptions, if indeed this is to be an investigation...that said, what you've pointed out-both in terms of suspects AND in terms of checking with witnesses...I would agree are good places to start...though part of me wonders, what if there WAS no motive? Some people just...get a kick...out of doing things like this..." his voice trailed off.

"But those places are, I think, good ones to start...is there anything else we need to take care of in here, now that we've ID'd the body?"
