"Liam!"

In less than a second Willow leaped off the back of Sarai's horse where she had been riding with her aunt and rushed over to her older brother, meeting him at their parents. The girl instantly hugged him, smiling up at the young man. "What in the world are you even doing here?" she asked happily. "I thought you were like halfway across the country at this point"

While she wasn't old enough to travel on her own yet Willow kept meticulous tabs on her brother's adventures, marking a new spot on an old map he had once given her every time he wrote a letter him.

Meanwhile Sarai hopped off the horse right after Willow, rushing over to Rue first and pulling her into an extremely tight hug. "W-Where in the world have you been!?" she exclaimed, 10% annoyed but 90% relieved.

"Where have you been?!" Rue asked back.

"Looking for you! You didn't come home, I was terrified!"

Rue couldn't help but to sweatdrop, knowing her mother had probably almost died with worry at her being a day late. She really expected that much.

"Caitlin was with me, and Liam too!" Rue mentioned.

At that Sarai finally turned to her eldest daughter, pulling her into just as tight of a hug as Rue's. "Why in the world are you here- not that i'm not happy! But you didn't mention you were nearby!"

Hotel Lobby

“Okay... then let's help her. But on our terms".

Joyce stared up at Sage for a moment before her nodded, grabbing his arm once more and leaning up to kiss him once more. This time though she obviously still had the weight of the world on her shoulder, so it was a bit more....Intense than usual. She was relieved, terrified, exhausted and still very worried for her younger brother who was probably neck deep in trouble with Rouge all thanks to her existential crisis of the last twenty minutes.

Despite all of this she gave herself this one moment to kiss Sage. Maybe it would make her feel better? Or maybe it would just complicate things. Either way after the day she had she deserved it.

Party

"So much confidence...." Rouge taunted, feeling the power around the room become weirdly tangible...She supposed it made sense, the power WAS creating pretty impressive shadows that could very physically hurt her.....So the next step was to get rid of them and let the boy kill himself by using too much power.

Suddenly Rouge's hand shot forward, becoming something of a terror in itself. The limb stretched, reaching inhumanly for Blake's throat and then her other limb went for Samara's clutching down with an incredible pressure!

Liam looked a little sheepish, but hugged his sister back.

“I... was coming to ask Rue something,” Liam answered, “I ran into her on the way, and one thing lead to another.”

From behind Rue, Edda was grinning towards Chloe and nudging her with his elbow.

Hotel Lobby

Sage kissed Joyce back, enjoying the moment before they pulled away, feeling some weight off his shoulders. It was accompanied by something else, another weight... but one he was bearing with Joyce, something he could handle.

“Okay... we better get going...” Sage said, holding her arm as they headed back to...

Rogue's Party

Blake's eyes opened wide as her hand came at his throat, not moving fast enough as he was slammed against the wall.

He gasped for air, seeing spots as he tried to pull in power, but couldn't bring it in fast enough, his shadows starting to fade around him.

“Won't... surrender...” Blake gasped weakly, digging in deeply. He had the power, right there, but he couldn't... he needed... If he couldn't use it, Samara might disappear...

His shadows, minus Samara, pulled back into him, Blake still feeding power to the girl. More... more power! Blake's eyes snapped open, his hair standing on end, and Rogue would feel something surging...

Lightning arced from Blake now, the young boy sending a blast of electricity at the woman, almost growling as the energy surged from him.

Lightning and shadows were now surrounding him, and Blake felt better then he had ever felt before...

“I... was coming to ask Rue something, I ran into her on the way, and one thing lead to another.”

Willow moved back from the hug, raising her eyebrow as she watched her brother's slightly sheepish expression. "What kind of something?" she asked.

"Miha that's none of your business" Chloe started, coming over herself and stopping in front of the two. She grinned up at her son. "That's between Liam and Rue, now let your mama have a hug"

She moved forward hugging Liam tightly, taking a small breath of relief. It had felt like forever since she had seen him last- he was every bit the adventurer that his father was. Unfortunately that meant the gaps between visits were slowly becoming longer and longer as he traveled further and further on his own.... Liam was no longer a boy, but she still missed having him around like when he was little.

Hotel Lobby

Joyce nodded as she followed Sage out of the Lobby and back into the party- still going on as vibrantly as it was before. She frowned and looked around, not spotting Blake and immediately feeling a pit form in her stomach-

Suddenly that pit turned into a sharp pain in her head, the girl stumbling back as she looked around frantically.

Something was very wrong

[...]

In a very rare occurrence, Samara had no clue what Blake was trying to do until it was too late. The room cracked with lightening and the girl stumbled back.

She was a product of Blake's powers from his mother's side- this much Samara was aware of...But the lightening, that was his father's. It was also something that didn't tend to mesh well with her...The warmth....The brightness....It was everything that would eventually destroy her...

But for now Blake seemed set on controlling them both- and control he did. Rouge recoiled her hand in shock, the woman scrambling to grab a knife from her desk, attempting to end this once and for all with a carefully aimed attack by her once again seemingly elastic arm!

This made Samara snap back into focus, the girl temporarily forgetting about Blake's potential demise by his own powers and instead moving to block the attack before Blake could be stabbed in the heart!

Liam hugged his mother back, then felt Edda hugging him as well, pulling in Willow as well for a big group family hug.

“We're glad you're safe,” Edda said, smiling.

Liam nodded, feeling a little embarrassed.

“Now why don't we go inside and hear everything?” Edda suggested.

Party

“What's wrong?” Sage asked, not having the kind of powers that Joyce had, looking around, seeing that she was looking worried. “Is Blake in danger?”

Blake focused, lightning blasting from his hand as Rogue grabbed the knife and brought it to him.

...Just as Samara was moving to block the attack as well...

Rue couldn't help but to be nosy, looking over as Liam was pulled into a hug by his family. Seeing him with them always made her think about the boy when he was much younger- back before he left home and started to explore on his own. The same little boy who got flustered at the attention and didn't want to be hugged in front of his friends. Rue gave a small giggle and looked back to her own parents.

“Now why don't we go inside and hear everything?”

"Are you sure...." Rue pipped back up, looking worried "I mean what if-"

"We'll be safe love." Sarai said, leading the group back inside "I'll put on some tea for everyone"

Rue frowned but gave a little nod as she was ushered inside.

Party

"Power.... A lot of it" Joyce managed, clutching her head as she recollected herself. After a second she straightened up, grabbing Sage's hand and pulling him towards Rouge's office-

[...]

"BLAKE"

The room was lit with Blake's electricity, so bright that even Joyce squinted a bit as she rushed in. The sheer amount of power was staggering, she didn't even know how Blake was doing it-

Especially considering his shadow being Samara was now laying in the middle of the floor, unmoving.

Samara was a product of Melanie's powers being passed on, but Blake's electricity was not part of her- it was too bright, too hot. Things that that killed shadows as dark and cold as her.

Caitlin happily hugged her mother. Normally she was one to pretend like she didn't need the displays of affection from her family, but after the weird and wild night they had all apparently had, she was grateful to see her mom alive. Coming home to a cold and empty house was a strange experience.

After a moment, she wiggled away from Sarai. “Okay, okay mom, that's enough.” She smiled a bit, grinning over to her mom. “I'm sorry I didn't let you guys know I was around. I didn't mean to come home so soon but after I ran into Rue I had to.”

Connor soon walked over, and hugged his wife as well. “Are you okay? What happened?”

“It's fine!” Moira came bounding over, grinning a bit. Connor raised an eyebrow to her, but she dismissed it. “Everybody is fine.”

She eagerly agreed with the sentiment they should get inside.

[West Gate]

Garnet shook her head. “You overestimate my authority. Yes, I am a Princess of the realm, but the soldiers will not obey my words. Royal authority over the army only extents to the King, Queen and crown sibling... in this case, my brother Xander. Leo and Camilla are in the army, so they have authority as well... but I am not. The soldiers are bound not to harm me... but they are not required to obey me, either.”

She sighed, running her hand through her hair. “... If we are discovered, they will take me back to the capital, and they will likely kill the rest of you. Perhaps... perhaps this is a bad idea...”

She frowned. She didn't like the idea of anyone risking their lives for her.

Didymus listened as Garnet explained the nuances of the Nohrian royalty and their various authorities-or lack thereof-over the Nohrian military. Honestly, he found it fascinating, and he began thinking about Galdwinian organizations in that regard...

"...I see." he said. "...honestly, I would be most interested in discussing the nuances of that and telling about how Galdwin does it, and otherwise how things work in our two respective countries, but...I do not believe this is a good time for that."

He grinned, slightly.

"When we're safely across the border, in Galdwin, perhaps we can have a bit more idle chat, if you'd like, Lady Garnet. I believe...I would."

When she expressed doubt, he shrugged.

"Either way we take is dangerous...this way simply has more solid, discernible benefits and risks. We mustn't back down now...our decision is made." he said. "We must press forward with conviction to its conclusion, with the grace and aid of God."

In truth, he too was feeling a bit nervous, but his own words seemed to steady him-this was the path they'd chosen-time was important, they had to press on...

"Though that said, Lady Garnet...is there some other name you've ever been referred to as? I do not enjoy misleading, but if you've some nickname or something that makes it less obvious who you are...it may prove beneficial to us here..."

He looked to Zadkiel.

"And I take it we're agreed, then, that you can do the talking? I think that presents the best option here..."

Galdwin

Richard nodded.

"Very well, then, depart if you must. If you need provisions for the journey, I'm sure we can help provide you with some. I can even arrange an escort of an airship or two of ours for your own."

He grinned heartily.

"Let it never be said that Richard the Lionhearted was a poor host."

“Are you okay? What happened?”

Sarai opened her mouth to answer but Moira's voice beat her to it as she bounded over.

“It's fine! Everybody is fine.”

"I-I'll put on a pot of tea and make some food" Sarai said, giving her husband a look of 'i'll explain when we get inside'. "You all must be starving"

Quickly Sarai ushered everyone inside, Rue following her mother with a relieved sigh. They still had the issue of the insane woman chasing Graham but for a moment they could relax and just appreciate the fact that everyone was here, safe. The girl hurried beside her mother, continuing cooking- now for a much bigger group.

"Sooooooo who's the guy?" Willow asked a bit quieter, walking beside her brother but motioning to Graham. She knew her mother had just scolded her for being nosy about Liam's love life but Chloe hadn't said a thing about being nosy about Caitlin's. "He's kinda cute"

Liam glanced over to Willow, then shook his head, talking quietly. “That's Graham. He and Caitlin are... friends.”

In truth he wasn't entirely sure what the two's relationship was, and didn't want to comment exactly on it to Willow.

“Ah, Willow, it is you!”

Liam groaned as Mele appeared now, having spotted Willow and took her head, bowing slightly to her. “What fates bring us together again!”

Party

“No...”

Blake appeared by Samara, his electricity dying out, looking down at her, bending down and placing his hands on her. “No... No... Samara!”

He shook, tears forming in his eyes. She couldn't be... but she was still here... she hadn't disappeared...

His electricity had... but the same electricity could supercharge the shadows, he remembered his father telling him, remembered seeing Elysia and Kyran working together before...

It hurt... but... it was his only chance.

“Samara... hang on,” Blake said, not caring about anything else around him as his electricity began to well up again, focusing. A light in the dark... brighter the light, the deeper the shadow. “Come on Samara... use my power, get up, please!”

He placed his hands on her and focused, hair standing on end as he fed as much power as his body could stand into the girl...

West Gate

Zadkiel paused for a moment, watching the gate, then nodded.

“Yes. The best way to get away with a falsehood is to tell another truth. I will claim I was here to check on my wife's holdings in Nohr, along with bringing our daughter home from there. It has the simplicity of being utterly true but not entirely correct,” Zadkiel said, “And if asked I will state the rest of you are my aides in this endeavor.”

-Galdwin-

Capitol

“I thank you for your kindness, but we have the provisions needed,” Gallic smiled, “But no poor host... dinner and an engaging evening activity here.”

He smiled slightly to let Richard know there weren't hard feelings over the monster attack... after all that was not something that could be blamed on Richard. And it let Gallic... stretch his legs a little.

Gallic then turned to Rin, taking her arm and heading back to the airship...

“Ah, Willow, it is you!”

Willow turned from her brother, eyes widening in surprise at Mele. She instantly grinned, stepping in front of him as he took her hand a bowed. She could feel the annoyance in her brother but couldn't help but to giggle.

“What fates bring us together again!”

"Mele! What are you doing here?" She asked, cheeks pink. "Did you- did you get caught up in all that trouble with my brother?"

Meanwhile Rue went to work, helping her mother at the stove with a kettle of tea and some bread and meat the had in the cupboard. She looked to her mother, noticing that the older woman hadn't quite relaxed since coming inside. "Are you okay mom?" she asked carefully, grabbing a few mugs.

"F-Fine dear" Sarai answered after an awkward moment. "Just....Glad you're home safe. I was worried."

Rue frowned, pressing a bit of stray hair behind her ear. "I'm okay, I mean I really wasn't in any real danger. I had Caitlin and Graham and Mele....And ummm Liam"

From her spot Sarai paused, raising a brow at how the girl said that. Her motherly senses were tingling. "How is Liam? Still traveling?"

Rue nodded "Yeah! He's been on his own for awhile now, seeing the world and everything! He actually was heading here when we ran into him-"

"Here?"

Rue looked down, face a bit flushed "Uh...Yeah. He wanted to see if maybe I wanted.....Well to see if I could come with him. To travel-"

Rue expected to hear her mother stammer out something incomprehensible, but instead a squeal pierced the room, Rue turning to see Chloe in the doorway looking uncharacteristically giddy while her mother looked partly confused and partly terrified.

"Oh miiiiiihhhhhhhaaaaaa!" She exclaimed, rushing over to pull the girl in a (very tight) hug "My little boy finally got the nerve!? It's about damn time!" she turned her head shouting into the doorway "Miho get in here!" she shouted to Liam

Party

Samara continued lying unmoving in the middle of the room even as Blake poured every ounce of power he had left in him into her. She was absorbing it...But it wasn't visible if it was actually doing anything.

"Blake you need to stop! You're going to kill yourself!" Joyce exclaimed, rushing over to try to grab her brother and make him stop.

Meanwhile Rouge took this as her cue to make a very hasty retreat. Of course this wouldn't be the last time she saw them...No....This boy was much too interesting....

[Party]

“Sh*t sh*t SH*T!” Laila frowned as she rushed through the panic, trying to get to Joyce and Blake. She knew things were going to go bad and now they had – and she rushed over to try to catch up with them, and as she did, she paused, seeing the scene with Samara on the ground.

“Crap, what happened?” She rushed over, seeing the panicked Blake and Joyce at his side.

[Jackson House]

“... Your family seems nice.” Graham said, rubbing his neck. It was a little awkward to be here, since he was the one person no one else knew, but he knew that if things with Caitlin were actually going to progress somewhere, he'd need to meet them eventually.

Besides, it made him remember back to his childhood. It was bittersweet, thinking about his parents and his sister. He sighed, running his hand through his hair.

“Oh yeah, they're great.” Caitlin sighed. “Just... maybe don't mention too much too them about... stuff.”

Connor, meanwhile, sighed. He desperately wanted to know just what had happened, and wanted to check on the girls and make sure everything was alright... he had never stopped worrying about them, even now.

[West Gate]

“That should be okay.” Garnet said to Zadkiel, although she was still nervous. This was all very new, and very dangerous... and she made sure to pull up her hood, and hide as much of her face as she could. The last thing she needed was to be recognized – although it wasn't very easy to recognize her. She rarely left the castle.

[Galdwin]

[Capitol]

Rin didn't say a single word; she played the part of the quiet spouse as she followed beside Gallic. Although Gallic alone would know her well enough to see the impatience on her face. She had a lot she wanted to say – though she wouldn't dare say that in front of the Galdwinian King.

“Oh, I played a regrettably minor role in your brother's adventure here, I only showed up near the conclusion,” Mele said, smiling brightly towards Willow. “I deduced he would be in this area, so it was mostly luck that brought him and I here... But with you here as well, perhaps it was fate instead?”

Liam frowned at Mele, about to say something when he heard his mother calling to him. He paused, then walked over to Chloe.

Edda just watched with a small smirk. Mele was a lot more outgoing then his father. It amused Edda.

“Yes mom?” Liam asked as he approached Chloe, looking a little wary.

Party

“No... I... I won't...” Blake said, hesitating for a moment. He used as much energy as he could, his body giving up, sparking a little as he slumped over Samara now, himself unconscious...

“Oh no...” Sage said, running forward. “I'll carry Blake... Ummm... Maybe one of you can carry Samara?”

Sage had no idea if Samara would have any weight or not, but he knew if they took Blake away and not Samara, shadow person or not, Blake would be extremely upset when he got up and probably almost kill himself again looking for her.

West Gate

“Then let us proceed,” Zadkiel said, motioning his chocobo forward, keeping his head high, as though he had every right to be here. It was something he learned from observing his wife's side of the family and other nobles. Act like you belong and that was 90 % of the game.

-Galdwin-

Aurelia Airship

Once aboard the airship, and when everyone was on board and would take off, Gallic sat down in his private room with Rin.

“Could have gone better... could have gone worse too,” Gallic sighed. “Galdwin will most likely be the most difficult nation to bring to the table... Excepting what a few of our spies have gotten back to us about Nohr...”

Gallic was optimistic about Ylisse and the Elgaia States though, and Hoshido shouldn't be difficult to get into talks with. The elves... well, they were a bit of a wild card.

Willow couldn't help but giggle at Mele, somehow Liam's friend was always quite charming- much moreso than her brother ever was around girls in her opinion.

"Well i'm glad fate worked out in our favor, there was a really creepy guy who attacked us before we got back....Of course he was no match for all of us, but still...I think..."

She frowned, looking back through the door Liam disappeared into "I think they were coming for you guys"

[...]

As soon as Liam reached the kitchen Chloe had thrown her arm around his neck, pulling him in with a loving tug. "Why didn't you tell your mother you were going to ask Rue to travel with you!?"

Rue currently stood beside her mother, bright red in the face and suddenly wishing she had kept her big mouth shut. In attempts to deescalate the situation she decided to speak. "I-It's really no big deal- I mean it's not like we'd be doing anything like Caitlin and Graham or something-"

The look on her mother's face suddenly made Rue slap her hands over her mouth. Welp. At least Sarai wasn't worrying about she and Liam now.

"C-Caitlin! Get in here right now!" Sarai shouted, Rue cringing from her spot. Her sister was going to MUUUUURDER her.

Party

Joyce's eyes went wide when Blake fell forward, having poured the entirety of his power into Samara- who still happened to be unconscious.

When Sage moved to pick up Blake and asked her to do the same with Samara the girl nodded, leaning down and carefully placing her hands on the girl. For a moment she felt just like a normal girl, perhaps a bit lighter than most, but then she could feel nothing but raw power- tons of it. Power that she recognized as her brother's. She frowned deeply. "It's like she's a human sized generator for all his power..." she said quietly, shifting the girl in her arms. She then looked to Laila. "You have grandma's powers right?" she asked "It's kinda like Blakes....Maybe somehow we can like put some of it into him?"

She was really grasping for straws with this.

[Jackson House]

C-Caitlin! Get in here right now!

Caitlin froze in her spot. It was rare for Sarai to shout, but her eldest daughter's antics could sometimes bring that out in her. Right now, she worried what it could mean... and she had a sudden, horrible thought. She groaned, mentally wondering if she would need to have a long and unpleasant talk with her sister after this... assuming she was still alive.

She slowly made her way away from Graham, insisting that he stay where he was, and made her way to the kitchen with Rue, Sarai, Chloe and Liam.

“Yes mother dearest?” She asked, trying to be uncharacteristically sweet sounding.

[Party]

Laila frowned, looking over to Joyce, and then down at her own hands – slowly a shadow crept out from her palms, and flowed like water along her outstretched arms. Her powers were a strange combination of the ones she inherited from her mother, and the ones from her father.

“... Maybe? I've never tried anything like that before.” She looked down at Blake, seeing the boy unconscious and vulnerable, and she felt terrible. While she took a bit too much after her parents, she dearly cared for Blake and Joyce and never wanted to see them in a situation like this.

“... I'll try!” Laila said, biting her lip and walking over to Blake. She let the strange flowing shadows leap away from her hands and envelop the boy, whirling around him and flowing through him, hoping it would do some good...

[West Gate]

West Gate was a sprawling complex, where the massive wall met a large, circular opening. Airships could pass through at the top, and caravans, chocobos and wagons could pass through at the bottom. However at the moment the gate was firmly shut, and many soldiers stood around. It seemed the high alert had reached this area.

In the middle of the soldiers was a mountain of a man in pitch black armor, with a fluttering red cape. A knight dressed all in black.

Garnet paused, turning her eyes towards the soldiers, and that knight in particular. She felt a strange... pull, and could hear a voice whispering in her ears to be careful.

[Galdwin]

[Aurelia Airship]

“... Don't be stupid, Don.” Rin returned to her true self, far more assertive and blunt. Now that they were safe from the prying eyes of the foreign royalty, she had no qualms about being the person she truly was. She stood up and walked over to her husband, shaking her head.

“Galdwin will never be an ally. At best they are a semi-useful tool, and nothing more. Perhaps the threat of the March will be grave enough that they will tolerate an alliance, but the moment that threat is repelled, they will go back to hating us and demonizing us. Their king is a blowhard who believes he is right about everything – much like my own father was – and their Church will never accept our aid.”

She shook her head. “... The best we can do is hope the March will hit them the hardest, and give us more time to prepare and protect our own lands. I know you believe an alliance can be reached. And that naive optimism can be charming at times... but they will not accept our nation, and I will not allow our ways to be changed by them.”

The kitchen was suddenly getting very crowded and Rue wanted nothing more than to slink away before her sister realized she had blabbed. But alas, she was trapped, only able to slowly inch her way beside Liam in case Caitlin started throwing something.

“Yes mother dearest?”

Sarai looked at her daughter with a raised brow. That voice only came out when the girl knew she had been caught doing something bad. Usually that bad thing involved climbing the roof or stealing a cookie....Not.....Oh geez.

Sarai took a breath, attempting to stay calm "Caitlin, you and that young man...uh Graham...H-have you been...Um...Are you, and him-"

"Are you and the mysterious stranger banging?" Chloe asked with the tact of a bear punching a lion in the jaw. Instantly Sarai whipped around, eyes wide and yet somehow still glaring daggers at her best friend. "Whhhaaaaaat everyone was thinking it! And anyways I got that vibe the second I saw the guy! He's too old to be Liam's friend and i'm pretty sure Rue's never been out of the house alone until now so you know- he had to be Cait's little friend!"

"T-THAT'S NOT WHAT I W-WAS GOING TO ASK" Sarai choked out. "Caitlin would n-never!"

Right? RIGHT???
