[Hoshido] [Castle Grounds / Gardens] Hiko cocked his head to the side inquisitively as Tamamo hesitantly spoke up, pondering her words. None of his behavior changed at all, even though he could already sense that his current companion was coming to some conclusion, more surety about her than there was before, her ki more determined and pleased. He didn't particularly mind: The woman was incredibly sharp and caught many details other would miss easily, and the fact that she was now becoming more sure of something spoke rather highly of her perceptive and deductive abilities. It was enough to raise his respect of her another notch. Despite how unsure and wilted she might have seemed, there was still a spark of intelligence, power and potential there, a cunning that never truly went away. But what she said... It pointed at something, a dilemma he had solved for himself a long time ago, and one he realized Tamamo was dealing with now. However... He decided not to speak, not to continue. It was her own path to tread, he had no reason to be poking into her business, and the realization would be more powerful if it was arrived to on her own. And as the woman changed the topic of the conversation away to something else, he simply flowed along, leaving the question he had almost asked unvoiced. A question of "Why?"... But now, he had another query to answer. Hiko paused to think... And sighed lightly, a breath let out of slight frustration and melancholy. He looked up at the sky for the moment, basking in the light of the moon and stars before answering slowly and carefully. "... I do not know the extent of the troubles that shall come upon all. I view things from an outsider's perspective, after all. However, what I do know is that I myself shall be in the greatest danger and trouble that I've ever beheld." Speaking this, he absently patted the handle of the one blade at his side that bore no markings, no guard, no tell, the one blade he used previously to fight the darkness within the Todokotsu Shrine grounds. "I have... Ways to judge the trouble that befalls me, hints that I can use to ready myself. And the ones I have seen are particularly... Dark. With the Maniwa having surfaced, the March once more starting up... You can't tell me that you haven't noticed the troubled winds, Tamamo-No-Mae-san. The winds have been troubled, the rivers rush quicker and more dangerously, the mountains rumble with distant snowfalls and rock slides... The very sky itself tells us of trouble. We live in the calm before the storm. And very few are ready for when the storm front truly strikes..." Edited by HellAvatar, Jan 31 2018, 12:53 AM.

[Nohr] [Alexandria Castle] The high wizard of Nohr, Melord, sat away in his room staring at a crystal ball. He looked down at the image of Princess Garnet, Didymus, Aiden and Vivi and he watched them with icy eyes. They had managed to escape from the first Waltz, and that was unexpected... but the battle had been fierce. “... You will never reach Galdwin, my dear Princess. Not so long as I have a say.” Melord waved his arm across the crystal ball, and the image changed. This time he saw Galdwin's prestigious castle – King Richard was visible, as was King Gallic. Melord ran his finger across his chin, and then frown. The crystal ball changed again, this time showing Hoshido's Imperial Palace. “... Galdwin and Hoshdio stand as obstacles. The fearful Paladins and the Samurai with such a grudge... both distrust Nohr. If our plans are to succeed... I must eliminate them. Very well, then let the March truly come to pass. Let my brothers and sisters come to inherit this miserable rock...” Melord took a knife from his belt and cut his hand. A thick purple blood oozed out from the wound, and he touched the crystal ball. For a moment it flashed over the image of Hoshido – and then the image returned to that of Galdwin. “Now, let the peoples of this miserable world know... they cannot hide from us.” Melord growled, and his voice was low, and inhuman... [Dali] Morrid narrowed his eyes at Didymus. “I'll not answer to you! Do you think I am some senile old man? I know the significance of the cross on your robes, and I've seen how you fight. You are a Paladin of Galdwin... I do not know why you have entered my nation, but I know it's trouble! I'll not have you in my town bringing trouble from the castle!” His face softened. “... Because you saved my people from... whatever that THING was... I will allow you to leave with a head start, and I won't summon the military til the morning... but I will have to report this. So I suggest you go. Now.” [Hoshido] [Castle Grounds / Gardens] “Oh, I've noticed.” Tamamo frowned, falling quieter. “... As you can probably tell, I wasn't eager to come back here... but I was pretty close to the capital for a reason. There has been something... wrong, lately.” She frowned deeply. “I do feel it. I may not have the same senses I once did, but my nose is still sharp and my ears still twitch and I can feel something truly awful in the air. The Maniwa are dangerous, but I fear something even worse is out there...” Suddenly Tamamo froze. Her nose twitched and she looked to Hiko. “Do you feel that? Something is-” The gardens began to shake. Large brown roots shot up from out of the ground, slowly connecting together and growing larger. The roots started to become green, and trees sprouted – as did long tentacles. Eyes opened, and suddenly towering above the two was... something monstrous! ![]() “What the – that's not possible!” Tamamo shouted. “How did it get past the Mountain Spirit!?” [Galdwin] [Richard's Castle] As Gallic and Rin prepared for their unexpected exit, and King Richard spoke to his son, the ground outside of the castle started to shake! Suddenly something thick and purple began to bubble on the ground, growing ever larger and shaping into a colossal shape! The purple goo solidified and became thick, leathery gray hide, and a purple shell. An enormous head emerged and let loose a terrible roar! ![]() |

[Nohr] [Mele's Coach] Rue listened silently as Graham explained his past, and instantly the girl felt terrible for the young man- as well as instantly grateful for their relatively uneventful childhoods. His life sounded hard at best- but also with a burden of magic that no one should have to bear. He didn't ask for his power- and thanks to it he was in a lot of danger... "I'm sorry" she offered softly, unsure what else to say to make him feel better. She looked to Caitlin who looked a mix of horrified and sympathetic. Even as a brash, loud and kind of crazy at time woman Caitlin was also a healer and thus probably felt some obligation to make him feel better- it probably was even worse considering her feelings for him. Rue sighed and looked to the side before speaking once more. "They may have come about under unfortunately circumstances but perhaps something good can come from them...." [Inn] “P-Please! You're not with them, I can tell! I need your help! They're gonna kill meeeee!” Sarai turned at the sound of the shouting man, her eyes widening as she caught sight of his bloody clothes. Unlike Moira she wasn't suspicious at all, in fact years of working with Connor had made her willing to accept any injured soul who came upon their home needing help- Of course they weren't at their home....And this man came from seemingly nowhere. But despite this she needed to help. "Calm down sir, who is after you?" Sarai asked, rushing to Sire's side. "What are you running from?" Meanwhile Willow inched nearer to her dad, unsure what to think of the man who just appeared. [Manor] "I'm not selling Joyce, not like that!" Kanna snapped at her youngest daughter, glaring at the girl's crass assumption. Of course who could blame her, Kanna wasn't above some pretty awful things- and really Joyce being forced to spend the night with some disgusting suitor would probably be safer than what Rouge had planned for her.... Kanna tried to push the thought out of her head. She looked back to the girl and spoke once more. "She said she needs her powers. For a series of jobs" she told Joyce, and really Rica as well "A few simple heists and then she would be paid handsomely, and my debt would be repaid. She needed someone with electrical powers...And since her father is a freakin' generator I suggested Joyce for the matter." [...] "Please, take a seat..." Rouge stated, motioning to two seats in front of her desk. Rouge made her way behind, before sitting down and looking to them. Joyce obeyed, sitting down and pulling Sage along with her. She still hadn't let go of his arm. "You're just as beautiful as you grandmother described" Rouge went on, purposely not going straight to business. "Of course you come from good genes. As much as your grandmother vexes me at times she does possess some of the best genes" "....Thank you?" Joyce said politely, but also a tiny bit confused. "Is that why you needed me?" "No no, just an observation. One which may help with what I need. I hear your father is Galv Hawkins, a man who possesses quite an interesting ability and a knack for the electrical workings. I also hear you share that ability. Is that true?" Joyce nodded, unsure how much she should be giving away about her family, and what this woman actually already knew. "I....Do....Well kinda. I'm nowhere near as strong as my dad." "No worries. The powers you have are probably still enough. May I see them?" At this Joyce froze. She really didn't know what she should do....She looked to Sage, hoping he could read people better than she could...." [....] Samara nodded, still feeling uneven on her feet but steadying when Blake placed his hands on her shoulder. "I'll try..." she said, focusing. Of course if Blake had to use up too much of his powers she really wouldn't have any choice in the matter. "What are you trying to see?" she asked. "Why don't we just go ourselves where you sent your shadows?" |

Nohr -Dali- Didymus met Morrid's gaze. He wasn't entirely sure how to respond; this man clearly was hiding what their town was really up do, what their town was really up to CLEARLY wasn't terribly above board, and he was also worried about "trouble from the castle". Part of him felt the urge to state that they had a "direct link to the castle" right here with them, but outright blowing Garnet's cover seemed...unwise. Unless SHE wanted to do it. He shot her a look, not a stern look, but a cautious one, as if to say "Your people, your call if you want to pursue this."-though communicating that in a look may not work so well. Instead, he simply regarded Morrid. "Rent us those chocobos and we'll be off." Galdwin As the creature began to pool, nearby citizens began to run...some, at least. Some prayed, some ran to sound the alarm, some may have even tried exorcism...but something else stirred. Galdwin did not have magic like many other nations, and indeed, possibly none at all. Or at least very little. It was a land in which strange and magical sights were unusual, though there were many wonders of faith and even some technological developments-still, few would expect to see any magical beings, and even possibly spiritual beings, save possibly for humans, in its borders. But even Galdwin's capital had some unusual elements, that, while fitting in with the culture, one may not have guessed. As the gargantuan turtle began to manifest, various statues around the city of varying sizes began to move...all of which depicted winged humanoids, with a few exceptions-not all were purely humanoid, but all certainly winged. The "statues" lost their stone facades, and stood, wordless-winged creatures giving off a golden light-they answered no questions and spoke to no one, but instead went to their task without hesitation! They rushed to the area around where the monster was attacking-not with blades drawn, but with arms outstretched. They began grabbing the people nearby it's attack, swooping or landing down from the air and picking up the civilians and noncombatants, those with more than one pair of wings shielding their passengers as they flew, bearing them away from the danger! None, however, engaged the creature. They weren't to do EVERYTHING, it appeared... Inside, Richard heard the commotion, and more importantly, he saw the statues. His son gazed with awe, and he grinned. "You've never seen them in action before, have you?" he said. "As you can see, we have...help. All the more. But they aren't taking care of everything, my boy. Come now, you have come of age. Keep your faith and draw your blade, son-it's time to learn what a king MUST DO!" he cried, his voice reaching an excited bellow, as he and his son rushed off down the hallway, his guard swarming around him as he went! Meanwhile, on the streets, a single man atop a white stallion rode towards the creature, armed and ready for war. At his flank were a pair of others, dressed and armed similarly to him-showing the symbols, color, and armaments of senior Paladins in the Galdwinian chapter of the Order. "Praise be that the people are being evacuated...but it seems Our Lord wishes this foe dispatched by our arms, with His aid..." Elder Percival said. He regarded his foe, and looked to his companions. "His will be done." he said, and the three of them dipped their lances, now glowing with blessed power, and finding the nearest spot of flesh not covered by shell, they charged towards it! |

[Hoshido] [Castle Grounds / Gardens] Hiko's danger sense kicked in before Tamamo even began to speak her warning. His ki, heightened as it was by the influx of energy from Kouki Sake, attuned and set roiling by the moonlit glow and his own connection to the moon's veil through the Tsukuyomi's Long Dance, it reacted just as Tamamo tensed, before she even had a chance to speak. And Hiko tensed in reaction, though it was only his self-control and state of mind that prevented him from clutching the handle of the blade upon which his hand still rested. The swordsman turned slightly just as the woman spoke to him, facing the direction of the disturbance as roots sprang from the garden, long and coiling, revealing an enormous creature the likes of which he had never seen before. Despite this, he had to chuckle lightly at Tamamo's sudden outburst. Remaining uncannily calm, he answered in rather good cheer. "I do believe that denial is useless at this stage, Tamamo-san, unless you refuse to believe your senses. You of all people should know that the spirit of the Mountain is not all-seeing. In fact, I have no doubt the lazy old fart is still happily sleeping his days away, and this is just mere inconvenience to his long nap. It is his daughter that missed this particular issue, something you can definitely bring up in further debates with her at your leisure." He watched the thing rise out of the ground and tower over him and the woman he was with, and the two were within reach of the vines. Not wishing to see exactly what those vines were capable of, Hiko funneled some of the built-up ki through himself and into his legs and feet, sidestepping once in a blur of motion, grabbing Tamamo around the waist with his free hand, and then kicking off backward, discharging the ki just as he bounced backward. While this movement was nowhere near as fast as the technique of the Rabbit Spirit, it still completed all of the steps of the swordsman's Flash-Step, and just a mere moment later, Hiko and the woman he took with him were a good 60 feet from their previous position as the swordsman settled lightly on the balls of his feet and just a little as his sudden change in stance compensated for the sudden momentum. He quickly let go of Tamamo and stepped away, not wishing to intrude upon her private bubble too far as he let his footing solidify as he watched the creature calmly. "... What a rude interruption. Had no one taught this rambunctious one that interrupting a conversation is terribly bad form? Why, I think that this rambunctious child needs a lesson in manners. And I do believe that we are about to see exactly how skilled and strong the children of the Empire truly are in teaching manners to such ill-mannered children, ne?" Despite the light-hearted commentary, Hiko himself was still somewhat unsettled. The kitsune woman was right, no one should have been able to sneak by the spirits guarding the palace of Hoshido so easily. Either this thing was so strong that it had already dealt with the woman he had seen a mere half-hour ago, or it was simply that stealthy. But why break stealth like this? Why attack in the open, in the heart of Hoshido where some of the strongest men and women gathered? Was this perhaps an attempt at the Emperor's life? But if so, why not a skilled assassin? Why this creature? The more he wondered, the less the situation made any sense to him. Whatever the case may have been, the swordsman focused on the task at hand: the creature. the why of it could be answered with time. Now, it was time to answer the more pressing question: what to do about it. And if he was perfectly honest, Hiko would have rather preferred to simply back away and let the palace guard handle this. He and Tamamo weren't the only ones here, after all, and by far not the only powerful figures in the vicinity. And unless the creature proved to be too much for the children of Hoshido to handle, he decided to do just that. Edited by HellAvatar, Feb 2 2018, 08:09 AM.

[Nohr] [Mele's Coach] Graham shook his head, and put on a smile. He was trying not to bring down the mood too much – although after their encounter with Jade, no one was particularly happy anyway. “It's okay. It's been difficult to deal with, but honestly... it feels good to talk about it.” Caitlin frowned deeply. She had never been good at these sorts of situations. She had always taken it for granted that her family would always be together. She'd even gone off on her own, wanting to see the world... the idea that her parents or sister wouldn't be around had never even crossed her mind. She instinctively bit her lip, and patted Rue's shoulder slightly. [Inn] Sire collapsed onto his knees a few feet away from Sarai, groaning and holding his wound. “Those psychos! I don't know who they are... bandits, thieves! Murderers... they slaughtered everyone at the Inn... well, everyone except those kids who ran...” He shook his head. “Please, they might still be around! You must help me! I don't want to die!” [Manor] “Well I wouldn't put it past you!” Laila frowned, crossing her arms. As she listened to Kanna explain the situation, she suddenly wished that her mom was trying to pimp out Joyce – that sounded less dangerous suddenly. “Sure... 'simple' heists... that require manipulating electricity. Doesn't sound very simple to me.” Laila snipped. “Why not just have him steal whatever it is?” She pointed at her father. Rica just scoffed. [Dali] “Just get out!” Morrid yelled. “No Chocobos, nothing! I don't want trouble! How am I going to explain all of this to the castle? Giant monsters, weird travelers... this is a nightmare!” “... Didymus, perhaps we should go.” Garnet frowned, moving closer to the paladin. “... Contacting the castle might be a problem.” [Galdwin] [Castle Courtyard] The massive turtle roared horribly, as something thick and blue dripped from its lips. Everywhere the drops fell, the ground instantly froze, the grass dying and ice spreading out several feet from each drop. The turtle was slowly but surely moving closer to the castle, its large feet slamming into the ground as it moved. When the Paladins approached on horseback, the nostrils of the great beast flared up but it did not look towards them – instead it stomped one foot, and suddenly a massive wave of ice shot up from the ground! A wall of gleaming, nearly eight feet tall, rose up to block their charge! As it did, several large spikes of ice shot out from the wall! One of the horses was hit, and another icicle bounced away from a Paladin's shield, but left a deep puncture in the front. [Hoshido] [Imperial Garden] The enormous tree-like creature let loose a horrible roar, and many long vines shot from its body into the ground around it. They moved through the dirt of the mountain, and exploded out at various points around the garden. The long green tendrils slammed against the castle, ripping off siding and tearing into the old and precious building. An alarm was sounded quickly. Torches began to burn across the castle at various points and a gong was sounded repeatedly – word to those in the city below to take shelter, and for the various people within the grand palace to either hide, or arm themselves. One of the doors to the garden was thrown open and a trio of Samurai charged forward. Guards of the castle, they carried naginata and tried to spear the terrible beast – but one of the long tendrils shot out and impaled one of the samurai, while the beast wretched up a large glob of acid from its vile throat and spat it on a second samurai. The acid easily burned through his armor – and then his flesh and bone as he screamed out in pain. Arrows began to fly, as from several spots in the castle, arches took hold and fired. Among the many arrows, one flew like a streak of blinding light and slammed into the beast's trunk, causing the monster to roar loudly as it smashed through, leaving a smoking hole in the monster. “Hiko, shouldn't we do something?” Tamamo frowned, as she crouched beside the swordsman. […] From the balcony, Musashi gasped at the sight of the monster. He had left his armor in the room, but his swords were on his belt and he quickly drew one, and then looked to Celeste and Azura. “Azura, please get someplace safe! Celeste, you're pretty good in a fight, wanna help?” Without waiting for an answer, Musashi jumped off the balcony! It was high enough that the jump was a bad idea – but just before he hit the ground his green ring exploded forth with light and winds cushioned his fall, he landed on his feet and charged forward! |

-Nohr- Inn Edda frowned, placing his hand on the hilt of his sword as Sire burst from the trees, wounded. “Who are after you?” Edda asked, stepping forward and drawing his sword, glancing towards the trees. Something did feel off to him, but he wasn't sure what... Mele's Coach “Davenport?” Mele said, looking up. “Your father... I remember him visiting mine... My father... pointed him towards... their father...” He glanced towards Caitlyn and Rue. “I don't know what happened after that though...” Dali Zadkiel glanced towards Morrid, sheathing his sword and putting his shield away, stepping towards the mayor. “We apologize for any damage we have caused saving your town,” Zadkiel said, reaching into a small pouch and pulling out an odd stone, some rune emblazoned on it's surface. “Here, this should be able to heal wounds. My wife prepared it, as payment for the chocobo, as we may not be able to return them.” Manor Sage frowned slightly, glancing towards Joyce who was still holding his arm. “Don't sell yourself short, I've seen your lightning in action, you're amazing at it,” Sage said, then glanced towards Rogue. “What do you need her lightning for?” He was suspicious. Blake smiled at Samara, “I have plenty of power... it feels better when you're around, it's not all building up in me...” He glanced around slightly. “As we have to be careful because if we're found out they might hurt Joyce and Sage... We'll go there if something happens, though.” -Galdwin- As Gallic was preparing to leave, the creature appeared, attacking... “...Rin, we have to help take that thing down,” Gallic said, pulling out the handle of his sword, resembling the talon of a large bird. He hurried outside, reaching King Richard now, stopping by him as the monster attacked. “King Richard!” Gallic called out, “I hope you allow us to aid you in disposing of this beast.” -Hoshido- Before Celeste said anything, Musashi had jumped off the balcony and landed safely. She paused, then shrugged then leaped off as well, casting a spell that made her land safely. “Careful!” Celeste yelled, focusing her magic, sending rays of fire at the tree beast now! |

[Hoshido] [Palace Grounds / Gardens] Hiko chuckled lightly at Tamamo's question. His hand remained upon his blade, but he made no motion to actually jump into battle. "No one is stopping you from doing something, Tamamo-san. But... With how much offense is mounted against this enemy, I would simply get in the way. Additionally, if I do suddenly jump into the battle, that would put you in danger as well, Tamamo-san. You are perfectly capable of protecting yourself, of course... But I would be a terrible person for leaving you defenseless, while the danger is being taken care of by the numerous opponents it currently has." He might not have been jumping into the fight, he still watched the creature very carefully, watching how it acted, and making note of all the tendrils as they came out of the ground. With so many men attacking, the swordsman had no doubt that the conflict was in favor of the Imperial family. But he still watched, carefully. And he was still ready, in case things went south, to suddenly jump in to intervene... |

Nohr -Dali- Didymus tensed. No chocobos? They DID have some emergency provisions, but he wasn't expecting a long journey on foot...and how far would they really get on foot, even with this "head start" the mayor was CLAIMING he would give them? It was not a Paladin's way to doubt, yes, but it was also not a Paladin's way to fail to properly consider his options and determine a wise course forward...on one hand, he was nervous as Zadkiel offered a stone that he suspected was magical, as a Paladin (albeit one of a different chapter than himself)...but...he did think that maybe this would help ease the mayor's disposition towards them, and even release the chocobos that said mayor seemed to be intent now on withholding. As the mayor spoke about how hard it would be to explain giant monsters to the castle, he felt like he should press in on just what was really going on in this town...then he heard Garnet, seeing her draw closer to him, seeing her look to him... He nodded at her, but whispered. "I concur, we need to stay as far ahead of pursuit as possible...but let us see how Zadkiel's gift is received...if they don't loan us chocobos, then...then we move...as quickly as we can. On foot, without them..." Galdwin -Capitol- Richard was rushing down the hallways, his sword already drawn, his armor on and his shield at his side, when Gallic found him. He looked to Gallic, and it could be seen-there was a look in his eye; a gleam. As if this was where he felt ALIVE. "Hah! You'd like to help, would you?" he asked, speaking loudly, with the air of a man who felt exhilarated, even was enjoying himself. A pair of guards were rushing by, pushing a huge, long metal tube on wheels-a cannon. He grinned, seeing it, and slapped the cannon's barrel as it passed by. "COME ON, MEN! FASTER! WE'VE GOT A TERROR TO SLAY, HAHAHA!" he almost roared. He looked to Gallic again. "I feel my rank, faith, and station demand I ask you to refrain from sorcery within our lands, and I find myself in the odd position of having to balance that with stating that help would be appreciated..." He grinned, though, VERY widely... "...and part of me wants to say no, just because that would mean MORE FOR ME! HAHA!...but that would be small-minded. Besides, this one's a BIGGIE! Plenty for all, I'd wager!" he said. His son came running up, clad in some additional armor. "I am here, father! Ready to ride with you!" "Ah, then to the gate, my boy! I was worried you'd miss it!" he said. "Come now, son-our mounts shall be waiting! You, Gallic, if your sword-arm itches, then come! Join us!" Out the window, a golden-glowing, winged creature flew by, carrying a mother and child in its arms, in the opposite direction of the adamantoise! "Though do mind not to interfere with the...special protection, shall we say?" he beamed. "COME NOW, MEN! TO GLORIOUS BATTLE! LET US SLAY THIS UNHOLY TERROR!" he now roared, drawing his sword and running outside, as his son follwed, crying out. "Yes, father! I stand ready to DEFEND OUR PEOPLE!" ...outside, in the courtyard/streets, a pair of stallions were waiting-despite the chaos, they didn't seem scared, but they did seem restless. Richard ran towards one, that neighed and bucked at his approach-almost as eager, it appeared, as he was. His son approached, quickly as he could, but without his father's level of passion, though some of that certainly there. The sounds of booms could be heard, as cannons strategically positioned around the castle were fired at the great beast advancing upon it. Meanwhile, one of the Paladins was thrown from his horse, another pulling away as the wall of ice shot up! Percival, on the other hand, kept pressing on, whispering a prayer...and suddenly, translucent golden wings manifested upon his horse! Holding tightly, he spurred the stallion, and suddenly took to the air! He saw the cannons firing, but he had to try...he shot up, taller than the adamantoise, and surveyed the situation...before angling himself to the side of the beast's neck, but above it...waiting for a gap in the cannon barrage...and spurring his horse into a dive, dipping his lance, mercifully aglow with blessed power, as he did an aerial dive/charge at the next of this terror! Meanwhile, Richard and his son were mounted, and he saw the wall of ice before him. "ARG!" he cried. "Trying to keep us apart, is it?" He drew a trumpet from his belt, ornately crafted-a Galdwinian marshal's trumpet used to signal armies in the field, this one unique, as it belonged to his station, not one of his generals. He blew the trumpet, then began pointing at the ice. Even shouting "THE ICE! CLEAR A PATH THROUGH THE ICE!" The Paladins next to the ice wall drew back, realizing what was occurring, as the cannons shifted their attention, attempting to blow a hole through the ice wall through which Richard, his son, and the Paladins on the ground could charge! |

-Nohr- Inn Sarai knew she should have been suspicious, but that instantly went out the window when he mentions kids escaping the fray. "Kids? Did you see them? Do you know which way they went? Were they hurt?" It seemed as if Sarai was now in full mom-mode, leaving the others to size up the situation. Even Willow seemed skeptical. "How did you get away?" she asked the strange man. Mele's Coach Rue frowned, as it seemed as they were coming up with more questions than answers...Of course it didn't help they everyone was tired and probably slightly traumatized. Rue imagined Graham, with his wound and lack of magic (and tragic backstory), was probably doing the worst. "Maybe we should just try to relax a bit" Rue offered softly "I'd like to think we're safe, but who knows if that lady will come back again. Even with magic we're all too tired to do much of anything in terms of fighting back..." Manor Samara nodded at Blake, still unsure but also trusting the boy with everything she had. She knew he knew how to control his powers so if he said he could handle it she knew he was at least confident. [...] Joyce couldn't help but to give Sage a small smile at his compliment, but turned back to Rouge when he asked the very obvious question. "I need help breaking in somewhere" Rouge said vaguely. "The man owes me quite a bit of money and has been very keen on avoiding me because of it. My sources stated that just came into town and is staying at an inn not too far away. I need someone to get my money back and....Teach him a lesson, while I keep my hands clean. Your grandmother said you could help-" "You want me to kill someone?" Joyce managed, the words feeling heavy in her mouth. "Kill, main, fry like a Cornish game hen, your choice" Rouge stated casually. Joyce shook her head, her long curled hair falling over her shoulder messily. "I-I don't think I could do that" "I know it sounds a bit overwhelming, but I think you could. You're beautiful and you have the ability to be deadly. Also think of it as a way to help you grandmother- after all she's in quite a bit of trouble herself..." Joyce suddenly felt a chill. "What kind of trouble?" "Like this man, she stole from me. But unlike him i'm giving her this chance to make it up to me. This one chance. You're her one chance." No pressure..... [...] “Why not just have him steal whatever it is?” Kanna was losing her patience, but she also knew Laila had every right to be upset so she just sighed and answered. "She doesn't want a man. And she doesn't wan't someone who is so obviously a criminal. If Rica went in and did this job everyone would instantly think deranged assassin with a lust for blood" She then looked to Rica "No offense" Edited by Crystal Rose, Feb 6 2018, 05:41 PM.

-Galdwin- Capitol “There is more then just magic and miracles in this world, Lion Heart,” Gallic said, smirking slightly. “I only intend engaging in combat with the dark beast,” Gallic added. He focused, his sword gaining a blade of fire now, twisting around his hand slightly as well. He moved towards the ice wall as well, glancing towards King Richard. “You may be known as The Lion Hearted, King Richard... let me show you why they call me The Phoenix King!” Gallic declared. He slashed his sword down towards the ice wall, sending a blazing line of fire towards it! -Nohr- Mele's Coach “I could sing us a song,” Mele suggested, “My voice is quite soothing.” It actually was, Mele has a lot of self confidence too. Manor Sage stiffened slightly, listening to what Madame Rouge wanted. “What if I just pay back what she stole?” Sage suggested. “You know I would be good for it.” He didn't want Joyce to have to be between having to hurt someone or let her grandmother getting hurt. ...Even if he was in the same situation Sage would have just let his father take the fall... Blake smiled at Samara, then frowned as he heard the offer. “...We might need to move soon...” Blake said quietly. He was absolutely sure Joyce wouldn't agree to hurt someone for money. She was his awesome big sister after all! |

Mele's Coach At the offer of a song Rue perked up. The girl loved music but didn't have much of a voice for it herself. Like her mother her voice came out timid and shaky as she sang, nothing like the performers she had seen in come to their town- or even her own big sister (who she regarded as a very good singer as kids despite Caitlin's embarrassment). "Y-Yes please!" she exclaimed, perking back up with a smile. Manor Rouge looked to Sage, brow raised and a grin suddenly forming on her thin lips. Despite the moment it looked as if she was considering his offer she ended up shaking her head. "No. Not because I lack appreciation for your offer, but rater because this it all goes well it will actually be quite redundant." Joyce looked confused "Redundant?" Rouge shrugged, looking back to Sage. She sat and stared at him for a long moment before quickly turning to Joyce. From her spot Joyce shifted uncomfortably, feeling like something was being unsaid. "What happens to my grandmother if I don't do this?" she asked "Nothing good I assure you. I have powerful people with lots of dangerous weapons perfect for torture. Of course Kanna knows this, which is why she offered your assistance." Joyce was a mixture of pissed at her grandmother and terrified, but she would need to sort through those feelings later. She snuck a glance at Sage, hoping he wouldn't judge her too poorly for doing this... "What kind of person is the man you want me to...Uh....Hurt?" she asked. Rouge shrugged "A thief. A shady business man who makes a living stealing the fourtunes of others. I've also heard he's a womanizer and a drunk if that helps" Joyce frowned. She knew she probably should have thought this through a bit more but she felt up against a wall. "Okay. I'll help you. But I have a condition." Rouge raised a brow "Which is?" "Sage goes with me. And I don't have to kill the guy." "That's two" "Take it or leave it" Joyce said boldly. "Fine." Rouge said, standing up and extending her hand. Joyce moved to do the same, shaking the woman's. "Deal" Rouge then pulled out a sealed envelope. "Don't open this until you've left, it has the address and all the information you'll need." Once again the woman was grinning a smug little smirk. "I trust you'll find it interesting" Joyce nodded, taking it and clutching it tightly. "You may leave. Good luck." [...] Samara nodded, a frown on her face. She knew something very bad was happening but wouldn't act....Not yet. |

The Crazy One

[Nohr] [Inn] “I don't freakin' know!” Sire said to Edda, shaking his head. “Man, I'm a traveler on my way to the Capital... all I know is there's a bunch of freaky weirdos with knives and swords and magic and sh*t.” He shook his head, as Sarai started to freak out. “I don't know much about it, I just saw a bunch of kids run off that way.” He pointed towards the woods – in the direction of Jade and the bandits. [Mele's Coach] “He what?” Caitlin looked surprised, and frowned. Graham's father had gone looking for her's? It wasn't that surprising... if he was looking for healers, Connor was famously one of the best in the world... but obviously he hadn't been able to help... Graham frowned too. This was confusing, and surprising, and he settled back quietly. “... Maybe... maybe we should just relax and talk of something else...” [Dali] Morrid took the stone suspiciously, and looked at it. Then he bit it – and winced a bit, realizing that biting a stone was a bad move. He slipped it into his pocket and then just waved towards the barn in the distance. “Go and take them before I change my mind.” Morrid grumbled, as he looked over to his smoldering city. Garnet frowned, staying silent. She wanted to help. She wanted to tell him that she would personally make it right... but she had to stay hidden, and she was not sure if she would be able to return anytime soon. [Manor] “None taken.” Rica shrugged. It was a pretty accurate assessment all things considered. Laila just sighed. She couldn't convince her mother differently... and with Joyce already seeing Rouge, it was too late to try something crazy. She just groaned, rubbing her neck. “... Fine, but I'm going with Joyce. Somebody has to keep an eye on her, and I guess it's gonna have to be me.” [Galdwin] [Capitol] Rin watched her husband gallivant off to go and fight this beast alongside the King of Galdwin and his Paladins. Watching was all she did, however. Unless the beast directly attacked her, she would stay her hand. Not because she actually cared about the King's discomfort with magic being used in his land – but because she would rather not reveal the extent of her abilities. It was better to have Richard think she was some harmless housewife, on the off chance she ever had to kill him someday. As the cannons fired and the massive balls slammed into the walls of ice, they cracked and crumbled. Gallic's flames burned through another patch of ice, and paths were clearly opened to the massive turtle! Upon realizing what was happening, the beast spun around and roared at the approaching enemies. It reared its head back and spat out a blast of frost at the nearest galloping Paladin, encasing both horse and rider in a thick sheet of ice! The demonic turtle roared again and stomped it foot – and the ground beneath it shook violently! [Hoshido] [Palace Grounds/Garden] As Celeste's beams of flame hit the tree, it roared out in pain as the flames quickly spread along its wooden body. For a brief moment it seemed like perhaps Celeste would make quick work of this thing – but then suddenly a thick brown sap oozed out from the beast, quickly extinguishing the flames! One of the great vine tentacles scooped up the sap, and then threw a glob of it at Celeste – and as it flew, the sap burst into flames! Arrows continued to rain down, but they seemed completely ineffective. Only Takumi's bow, glowing brightly, was able to do anything more than simply annoy the monster. “I would not be so sure that sheer numbers will save the day, Hiko-san.” Tamamo frowned deeply as she watched the monster. Her nose twitched and her eyes narrowed. “This... is no ordinary creature. Not even an ordinary demon. I am a powerful mage, and I have lived a very long life... but I have never smelled magic like this before. This is something twisted and wrong, something that should not live in this world.” She snapped her fingers, and the glorious gleaming mirror she had used in the previous battle appeared in her hand. “... This thing will be a challenge. The samurai of Hoshido, while strong, will not save the day. I count only a handful of people here who could possibly make a difference in this battle.” |

[Hoshido] [Palace Grounds / Garden] Hiko let out a noncommittal hum to Tamamo's comment, still paying attention to the battle, taking note of the acidic properties of the monster's sap, the flammable properties of the same, the reach of each of the tentacles, the resistance of its body to normal attacks as only certain strikes seemed to cause anything more than mere discomfort from the creature. "... You, more than anyone, should be aware of the pride that is possessed by the children of the empire. What would happen to that pride if it was felled so easily, brushed aside by strangers and outsiders? No, this is a direct assault on the empire's most important family, a challenge." He cocked his head to the side slightly. "I cannot intervene without damaging that pride. And if I do intervene so easily, it is too simple for the woman you have had such a troublesome argument with to withdraw her allowance of my actions, simply because her own pride had been wounded. No... Until that pride has been put aside, it is unwise to intervene. Besides, it will not take them long to learn what works and what does not. And there are already effective, damaging attacks being leveled upon that entity." And yet, the man's thoughts were of s lightly different line. Pride was certainly a big reason why he was not acting, but it was also his own hesitance to reveal his capabilities. It wasn't something he was willing to do at this moment, and if he truly did reveal all that he was capable of, it would be too easy for him to become a predictable piece in the game that was slowly being played. No, he would rather remain a hidden piece, one of the unexpected factors that could change the tide of actions. And to do so, he could not act truly openly. He always liked it better that way. But he knew that if this battle truly turned south, he would not avoid it. He swore a long time ago that he would help the Empire in its times of need, and that sworn word still held great importance to him. It was a vow he made a long time ago to perhaps the only person he thought he loved. And he would not abandon that promise now. So he watched and calculated, waited and kept sight of all the fighters that were engaging in battle, carefully categorizing the monster's actions, and readied himself. And in fact, as he did so, he allowed himself to calm and settled into that hazy, semi-meditative state of mind that allowed him to build ki. With the moon shining unblocked by clouds, it was easy for him to slightly shift his form into a different stance as he settled his breath and let his focus cool and align with the moon's light, allowing the beginning stages of the Tsukuyomi's Long Dance to permeate his spirit and empower him with ki. His physical form gained a sense of luminescence, a barely perceptible and hazy glow that blurred the very edges of his form and cloth, as if the edges became somewhat transparent... |

I'll bite your legs off!

Nohr -Dali- Finally, things were settling down. Morrid seemed to accept Zadkiel's gift, and when he finally agreed to let them borrow the chocobos, Didymus wasted no time. He turned to go to the stables, making sure everyone was together, but wait-where was Vivi? He had been thrown into that shop... Didymus paused. "Zadkiel, are you alright? If so...could you go and secure the birds for transit? I will join you briefly, but, you may have more experience with chocobos, I've more with horses, myself...and we must find Vivi. I admit, I still have my questions about him, but...he's shown no signs of being a puppet of our enemies-and to the contrary, he HELPED us here...it would seem...dishonorable, at best, to depart without him." He turned toward the shop where he had seen Vivi get blasted into. Still, as he went, he looked over Aiden, and before he had entered the shop... "Are you alright, Aiden? Thank you for searching that house and ensuring that no one was in there or hurt by the flames. To think, that...that could have..." he shook his head, concerned about what may have come about by his actions-even if it would have been indirectly or accidental, he was most relieved he did not have the blood of noncombatants on his hand-and a tad worried that he COULD have. Still, he had to be strong and faithful...he quietly gave thanks that no one else had been hurt, it appeared-not in that incident at least-as he also looked toward Garnet, before he headed into/towards the shop. "Are you alright? I know..." he paused, guessing that seeing such things in her land, her people involved or at least affected by such things..."...I know it must be...difficult...seeing this." he tried to shoot her a soft, sympathetic look. "We will, Lord willing, have some time to go over it, if desired, on the road...but for now..." He headed towards the shop, attempting to open the door. "Vivi? Are...you in here? Are you alright?" Galdwin -Capitol- As the paths were cut in the ice, Richard bellowed with laughter, enjoying, it seemed, the fight! He blew his trumpet again! "RESUME FIRE ON THE BEAST! TARGET AREAS AWAY FROM MYSELF OR ANY OF OUR SOLDIERS!" he called. When the ground began to shake, he laughed yet again! "HAHAHA! HOW EXHILARATING!" he cried, as his own horse stumbled to keep its footing, but neighed as if eager! "Whoa-whoa!" his son exclaimed, fighting to keep his balance and even keep his horse calm! "Steady there! We cannot fail now!" he said, patting his mount on the side of the neck. Richard raised his eyebrow at Gallic, not sure what precisely fueled his attack, but all the same looked to both Gallic and his son. "COME NOW, THEN! THAT POOR FELLOW WHO'S BEEN FROZEN CAN'T BE THE ONLY ONE WITH THE COURAGE TO GET CLOSE! FOLLOW ME, LADS!" he bellowed, before turning towards the beast and letting out a loud warcry, as, despite the trembling ground, his horse shot forward, not as fast as if it were on steady ground, but horse and rider operating with clear experience in difficult terrain. "GOD, GALDWIN, AND GLORY!" Richard bellowed out-it seemed the Lionheart was roaring, so to speak, as he drew a huge, well crafted sword with one of his hands, attempting to get on the outside of one of the creature's legs and dig into it with the sizable blade! "WITH YOU, FATHER!" his son cried, and his own horse-though both it and its rider moved slower and with less clear experience, moved to follow Richard I, his son attempting to carve into the same cut his father would, and extend upon it, if indeed they were both able to strike the beast. In the air, however, Percival noted the beast spewing out a blast of ice-but he could not lose focus! His lance aglow with blessed power dipped, he closed on on a weak spot in the creature's neck-flesh. A part covered neither by shell nor those massive ice crystals on its head! Momentum building from his mount's blessed wings beating, as well as the controlled fall they were in, he attempted to ram his lance into the beast's neck-and to avoid collision, his mount, in a move it seemed that both horse and rider had practiced, would then beat its wings in the OPPOSITE direction, breaking their advance just after the lance would deliver the shock of their charge to the beast, allowing them to fly back up and away without crashing! At least, all that was their intent. |
