[Manor]

Laila meant well but Samara could only frown, taking the girl's warning more as a threat. She moved closer to Blake, arm in his as she looked around.

"I'd protect him from dark mages...No one will get near him" She said stoically, looking at Laila... "But you're right. There are a lot of people with dark auras here....People like your mother and father"

[...]

"You're the only woman I ever wanted to dance with, Kanna.”

Kanna couldn't help but to give a small, brief smile before her eyes caught a pair of teens dancing on the floor several feet away. She narrowed her eyes at Joyce and that boy...instantly feeling protective of her granddaughter.

Ironically Kanna is more protective of Joyce around Sage than Rouge.

"What the hell does he think he's doing with my granddaughter?" she muttered.

[The Road]

Sarai was in shock, staring at the destroyed coach and imagining the worst for her daughter. It was fairly certain that bandits attacked the coach from the bodies littering the ground and she knew that if Rue had been here she didn't have the means to defend herself. A girl like her....With men like those....The possibilities were terrifying-

Suddenly Moira raised her hand and drew a symbol in the air, gasping a few moments later. Sarai was instantly at her side, anxiously waiting for the woman to recover and speak.

“... They're alive. They were here... they were attacked, but they escaped... and...It wasn't just Rue. I saw... Caitlin, and Liam, and another boy I don't know.”

Sarai's eyes widened, both relieved that her daughter was safe but shocked that Caitlin was in trouble too. Despite it being a terrifying thought Rue stood much more of a chance with both Caitlin and Liam.

"A-Another boy?" she asked, now looking around in every which direction. "Could you tell where they went?"

[Ryoma's Chambers]

Ryoma knew that tension was there, but he also knew that it would take more than just his words to help with that. He knew very well what was truly at the heart of the tension... the rumors surrounding his father's demise, the fact two of his siblings had fled after it happened, one of them having not been seen since... and the coming March, Nohr... all of it was a potent blend.

He merely nodded, finishing his tea. “Of course. I must return to my duties as it is. You'll find the shrine down on the main floor.”

[Nohr]

[Manor]

Laila could only sigh, and nod in agreement as she scanned the party for any sight of her parents. “Not gonna argue with you there... those two are just... ugh.”

There was a reason Laila was distant with her family; and that reason was the frighteningly toxic combination of her parents. On their own, neither Kanna or Rica was a great person... but somehow they managed to bring out the worst in each other.

“Want me to kill him?” Rica asked, as he glanced over at Joyce and Sage.

[The Road]

Moira was still calming down from having used the spell, but she turned her head to Sarai and nodded. This was no time to wait, the kids were in some kind of trouble... and Moira doubted that that had changed since they were here.

“I think I know the way they went. Come on, we should get moving.”

Manor

“Right, right...” Sage said, thinking, letting himself dance on automatic as they moved across the ballroom, then blond haired young man trying to think of what to say next.

“Well... it's someone you know,” Sage said carefully.

Blake looked a little worried as Laila and Samara argued with each other.

“It's okay... I've been using my shadows for a long time now...” Blake said. “I can handle myself...”

Inn

Liam blushed, not sure what to say to Rue. He liked Caitlin, but she was always kind of an older sister to him, Rue though...

Before he could say anything else, Caitlin had appeared, and Liam was looking red in the face still.

Hotel

Edda smiled, kissing Chloe back. “Don't worry, I will, but she does take more after her mother, you know.”

Soon they were ready, grabbing Willow and heading out, to...

Road

Edda slowed down, seeing two figures in the road as they approached. He crouched down, moving forward before...

“Sarai? Moira?” Edda called out, seeing the two women, turning back and glancing towards Chloe and Willow and motioning them forward. “What are you two doing here?”

Dali

Zadkiel held up his shield, fire bursting around him, repelling the icicles.

Next came the lightning, Zadkiel bringing his shield forward and taking the blast.

The magic ripped through him, the armored Paladin grunting with effort, but a moment later he was glowing softly, healing power flowing through him, recovering from his wounds.

“Brother Didymus, be careful of striking the orb!” Zadkiel called out.

Aiden hesitated, then ran out of the consecrated circle, hurrying to Didymus, focusing now.

“Didymus!” Aiden cried out, focusing as fire glowed around her now, the white haired girl praying. “Let me see your sword, just for a moment...”

Shirasagi Castle: Guest Chambers

Celeste sighed softly.

“...I have no love for the place... and to be honest for most of the last six years I haven't been there... but...” Celeste said, looking worried. “...I am originally from Nohr. I left about six years ago, when my curse manifested. I had been planning to leave anyways, but I found someone who could teach me. I've been to a lot of other places, and I recently came back to Nohr to track down some rumors about something that might cure my curse...”

-Galdwin-

Capitol

Gallic was quiet for a moment, but nodded softly.

“...We may have ideological differences, but I do hope, in this oncoming crisis, we can work together,” Gallic said.

"Not yet...." Kanna said, eyes still narrowed at the two. "But maybe soon. Joyce can't afford to be distracted by a man like that. He's too good for her, in the worst possible way."

[...]

At the mention that the girl was someone she knew Joyce perked up, looking from her feet to Sage's face. "Someone I know...Hmmmm..Maybe someone from back when we were in classes together...Or maybe, GAH it's not like Laila or Adrianna is it?"

While both her aunts Laila, Adrianna and even Aaron were all only a bit older than she was. Definitely still young enough for Sage to appropriately have a crush on. She now thought back, trying to remember the last time he had seen them with her. "I don't think I could support that!" she added, half joking, half totally serious.

[...]

Samara was slightly surprised when Laila agreed, sensing the girl's strange feelings towards her own parents. It was a distrust Samara knew too well.

"Your mother wishes to do something bad" she said, cryptically only because she didn't know the details yet. It was just a feeling as of now.

[The Road]

When people approached Sarai instantly went for her own weapon- a small knife her husband gave her- unsure if more bandits were coming to finish the job. Luckily it wasn't- instead it was much more unexpected-

"C-Chloe? Edda?" Sarai managed, quickly placing the knife back on her belt as her friends, and their youngest child rushed forward.

"Aunt Sarai!" Willow exclaimed happily hugging the woman with a smile.

"W-what are you guys doing here? Did you walk all this way?"

Chloe laughed, shaking her head "Naw, took a coach for a bit, wandering in the middle of nowhere is more of his thing than mine." The woman then paused, frowning back at Edda. "I'm gonna assume this is what those people in town were talking about..."

[Inn]

The space between them was tense, but not in a bad way necessarily. Rue felt her cheeks become warmer and warmer and she wanted nothing more than to once again confirm that he really liked her. Not Caitlin. Her. It was almost too good to be true-

But suddenly Caitlin was back, the girl stiffly turning around to see her older sister. She hoped she didn't look too out of the ordinary lest the girl prod.

Didymus paused, wondering if all he had done was make things worse for a moment, but it seemed he had at least injured the beast. Still, there was a flame...his weight pulled his sword loose as he had a short drop to the ground again!

He analyzed the creature, realizing it was going to be difficult to hit...and Aiden was running towards him...crap, she was getting to close...

"AIDEN! STAY BACK!" he called-he was RIGHT next to this thing, it was probably going to try to hit him again soon, his shield held at the ready.

"THE HOUSE! CHECK THE HOUSE! HELP ANYONE INSIDE!" he called-he and Zadkiel had to keep these...things...busy, so he couldn't rush in to help for himself...and he was loathe to put Aiden in danger, but if there were people in that house...

"...I STILL NEED MY SWORD!" he called, thinking he had an idea of what Aiden wanted to do, but...he was in the middle of a fight! He couldn't just hand over his sword...he eyed this thing, looking for another opening, debating whether to attack its orb again, or try to hit another weak spot...and inspiration struck him.

"Please, Father....grant me strength...physically, too, please..." he muttered, as he tried to get up close-closer than he already was, and jam his shield beneath one of the creature's protruding scales on its "chest", and he pressed as hard as he could, trying to pry it up/open!

He didn't like how this left his shield engaged in something besides directly shielding his body, but if this worked...

[Ryoma's Chambers]

"Then I wish you good rest, Ryoma-san. Excuse me."

With another bow, Hiko backed through the doorway of Ryoma's room and closed the door before him, careful to retain the air of propriety. While mostly not one to stand on ceremony when asking to refer to himself, he showed appropriate respect to those that have earned it, and the current emperor of Hoshido was definitely earning his keep. He deserved all of the respect due to a ruler of the land, and Hiko was perfectly willing to show it.

There was a certain draw to tradition after all, and Hiko was very well-versed in the rules of propriety.

Drawing away from the door, Hiko wandered off down the hallway towards the back of the keep, where he remembered the temple grounds used to reside. His memory served him well, and he found a familiar passage, well-lit and painted with murals of the many spirits the imperial family had befriended and fought in their history before coming through the massive doors into the large prayer chamber that served as the prayer ground for those who communed with the divine. From here, his gliding gait took him to the back of the prayer chamber and through the doors into a much darker, smaller chamber that served as the shrine to the spirits and gods, surrounded by sealing ofuda and numerous hung charms.

And it is here that he found Tamamo-no-Mae, sitting before the shrine cross-legged, a stony and passive look upon her face. In contrast, the expression of the other presence in the room was one of distaste. Pleasantly smiling at nothing or no one in particular, the swordsman quickly divested himself of all three swords and left them in the small alcove outside of the inner door, settled to his knees and scooted into the inner shrine chamber closing the sliding door behind him as he did so.

"I do hope I am not interrupting," the swordsman spoke quietly as he washed his hands and mouth in the trough next to the shrine door, paying no attention to either of the occupants, as if they did not even exist at the moment.

He scooted closer to the shrine itself, Sliding himself in to the left of the other kitsune, digging into his long sleeves and produced a small cup and a small paper charm full of rice. He placed the second upon the altar base next to Tamamo's burning incense, then placed the small sake cup, once more pouring that strange liquid he previously gave Celeste to sip into the cup, before backing away from the stone shrine. He clapped his hands twice and bowed his head, sending his thanks to the spirits that visited the shrine, settling into a perfect seiza sitting position once more.

[Shirasagi Castle: Guest Chambers]

Musashi was silent as Celeste spoke, and admitted that she was from Nohr. He was quiet, but flinched slightly as she said the words. The Nohrians were the 'enemy', that was what Musashi had always been told... that was the general consensus. He'd never quite believed that.

“... Well, doesn't change a thing. You helped me out. We did something good.” Musashi shook his head. “Besides... I've met some Nohrians who are pretty cool... but... well, you should probably keep pretending to be from Elgaia while you're here. Takumi and Hinoka... well, I don't think they'd take the news well.”

He knew his siblings hated Nohr. Of course, they had reasons to.

He paused, and wondered if his other sibling was around...

“... You want to take a walk? I want to go check on my sister. Haven't seen her since we got here.”

[Shrine]

The situation at the shrine was tense. Tamamo sat without moving, a strange mixture of sadness and defiance on her face as she spoke to the strange woman before the shrine. She had so many memories of this castle, and of this shrine... once, in what felt like another life, she had come here happily.

Now she wallowed in her mistakes, and wondered if the woman felt like showing mercy...

She only reacted when Hiko unexpectedly arrived. She froze, not quite sure what to do or say. She hadn't expected anyone to come here, least of all that strange swordsman. She didn't need to drag anyone else into the mistakes of her past.

The woman, however, turned her eye to Hiko and frowned, watching him carefully. Her nose twitched every so-slightly and her frown deepened. She walked over to the shrine, ignoring Hiko as she looked down at the offerings Hiko had left and she scoffed.

“... Friend of yours, Tamamo?”

“We've only just met. He has nothing to do with any of this, so there's no need to-” Tamamo immediately started speaking, but the woman cut her off.

“You expect me to believe it is coincidence?” The woman frowned, but upon seeing the confusion on Tamamo's face, she paused, and then she laughed – a rather harsh tone. “Oh, have you fallen so much from your previous self that you cannot even recognize your own?”

She shook her head, and then looked to Hiko. “... Well, I see everything. In my shrine, on my mountain, there are no secrets. You are interrupting, Tetsukaze-no-Hiko, but as you have been a friend to my favored clan, I will ignore that.”

[Nohr]
[Inn]

Caitlin paused, looking from Liam to Rue, and then back at the boy. In an instant she frowned, and then groaned loudly.

“Ugggggh, no, come on... there's a crazy woman trying to murder us and NOW is when you two decide to pull this crap?” Caitlin could only sigh, running her hands through her dark hair and frowning. She wasn't an idiot, and had long ago noticed the way Liam looked at her sister. And to her annoyance, she saw the way Rue sometimes talked about Liam.

But now wasn't the best time.

[Road]

Moira paused, as her abilities warned her that someone was approaching. For a moment she concentrated and let light start to burn in the palm of her hand. She spun around, ready to -

She froze, seeing Edda, Chloe and Willow and she quickly dismissed the burning power in her fist and shook her head. She was too jumpy, but in this situation she couldn't very well do otherwise.

“... It's good you're here.” Moira admitted, shaking her head. “We're not entirely sure what happened, but... this carriage was attacked by bandits. Rue, Caitlin, Liam and some boy I don't know were there. They're fine,” She quickly added. “But they fled... and I think someone is pursuing them.”

She frowned deeply.

[Manor]

Rica just shrugged, and it was hard to tell if he had been serious in his offer to kill Sage or not. With him it was never easy to tell.

“Much better that Joyce spend her time with someone like Rouge, right?”

Laila could only laugh slightly at Samara's words. “When isn't she? My mom is constantly doing something horrible... I mean...”

She paused. Laila was well-aware that she wasn't exactly a saint herself. She was a lot more like her parents than she ever would admit; but she always prided herself on never being quite as bad. “Okay! I'm going to deal with this. Blake and Joyce shouldn't be subjected to my mother's machinations.”

[Dali]

As Didymus pried at the monster's chest, the scale started to come off, peeling away and revealing a soft-looking under-body!

Ring ring ring!

The Waltz floating high above rang the bell in its hand, and suddenly ice shot up from the ground and started to freeze up Didymus' legs! It was slowly rising, consuming his body and encasing him in ice!

Then a ball of flames came flying from behind Zadkiel and Aiden, slamming into the Waltz and sending it flying through the air, bouncing around and hitting the ground! From behind, Vivi was shaking from head to toe, but his hands were still smoldering with his magic!

The ice stopped climbing up Didymus, as the Waltz agonized and tried to recover!

[Ylisse]

[Camelot]

Eventually, after a long ride back to the castle that was filled with tension and restless uneasy from the King, the Knights soon reached the magnificent castle once more. Artoria called out for aid, and Lancelot was taken away to be seen by the doctors.

She sighed deeply, waiting until she was alone in one of the stables before leaning against the wall and closing her eyes. It was unmistakable... even without Merlin's report... she knew what was coming.

“Must I reign during the time of a March? Is this the destiny chosen for me?” She pondered.

"Caitlin!" Rue exclaimed, very obviously embarrassed at her sister's realization. "We didn't- we aren't-we....." Rue paused. "It's not like we're you and Graham!"

[Road]

Moira's words should have put Sarai at ease, and they did in a sense, but the woman was still terrified for Rue- and now Caitlin. Both her girls were out there- somewhere- running from someone...Someone dangerous it seemed by the carnage surrounding them.

At that moment Chloe noticed many of the bodies scattered about, quickly looking over to Willow and then Edda. She gave the man a look, knowing this was not appropriate for their teenage daughter to see. "Guys we need to get going. Who knows when someone will come back here...."

"What happened here?" Willow asked, quiet.

[Manor]

"Perhaps..." Kanna observed, still moving to the beat of the music. "Rouge may be dangerous...And ruthless...But she's brilliant. It's not often people outsmart me, and even though I hate to say it she did. Of course that will make it all the better when I finally kill her. But before I do Joyce could learn a thing or two from a woman like that."

Once again her eyes scanned the crowd, losing Joyce and Sage in the crowd again. "That boy... He's not like his father. Have you ever met Ryan McCall. Not as smart as Rouge- not by a longshot- but he's devious. And powerful. And quite wealthy to boot."

[...]

"You really you'll be able to stop a woman like that?" Samara asked Laila. "Good luck."

“No, not them,” Sage said, shaking his head. “But... you're getting close...”

He hesitated for a moment, wondering if he should just spill it...

“Why do you think grandma is up to something?” Blake wondered, looking between Lalia and Samara.

Blake was quite naďve and tended to believe the best in people.

Road

Edda was inspecting the bodies, muttering to himself as he looked around, moving to the side of the road.

“I found the inn driver. He was pulled over here, and...” a pause, “He's missing personal effects. The kids had enough time to pull him out of the elements and get his stuff, probably to his family...”

Edda stood up, returning Chloe's look, then nodded.

“Willow, come over here with me,” Edda said, pointing towards some woods by the road, “Liam and the others went this way, and I think I hear water. If Liam was leading them he'd have them lose the trail by traveling through the water for a little bit. You can check one side and I'll check the other for where they got out.”

Inn

Liam looked sheepish, looking away from Caitlin. Had she liked him when they were younger...? He had never thought of her that way, and Rue had always been the one who was interested in places he had been...

He shook his head, it didn't matter, here was Rue, who... but...

“You're right... it's not the time. We can... talk more later,” Liam said, but smiled fondly towards Rue. Maybe something good would come out from all this after all...

Dali

Aiden hesitated, about to pack off when Didymus started to be frozen, his legs encased in ice...

“Didymus!” Didymus called out, placing her hands together, murmuring softly.

Fire came from her, surrounding Didymus as the girl shook and focused, the ice around him melting, the fire, while hot and terrible to the monsters, felt warm and welcoming to Didymus, moving around him almost protectively, glowing around his sword, as if to increase it's holy might...

Zadkiel charged, fire bursting from behind him, eating up the distance towards the fallen Waltz, red eyes glaring hard at the being, trying to use the opening Vivi gave them, bringing his own sword around to attack!

“You're not whining now, are you?” a voice asked Artoria, standing in the shadows of the stables.

The swordsman ignored the biting words from the woman, remaining perfectly still as she snapped off biting remarks in his direction as well. In fact, he seemed to be ignoring her entirely, focused on whatever he was holding in his mind at the moment. His smile never wavered either, still small and pleasant and completely unperturbed by the harsh remarks, as though he wasn't being outright insulted, 'indulged', or being railed upon at the moment.

Finally, he took in a deep breath, the smoke from the incense swirling about and visibly entering his nostrils as he held the smoke within him for a few seconds, and then let out a long exhalation.

"... Your father has left many responsibilities to you while he sleeps the long dream, I see. I would appreciate it greatly if you kept such grandiose titles to yourself, ryu-san. I am just Hiko these days, no more."

Joyce continued to dance, pondering who Sage was refering too...It wasn't his aunts...And it was someone she knew-

Suddenly Joyce paused, face now red. It was obvious she figured it out.

"Wait. Seriously?" She exclaimed, looking back up at him. "It's not me! Sage, you can't be serious, i'm like the worst person ever for you. You can do waaaaay better than me!"

[...]

"I can sense the darkness in her. She has similar powers as you Blake" Samara said knowingly. "Yours are more powerful of course, but hers....Are bad"

She looked to Laila "And your her daughter."

Road

“Willow, come over here with me,”

Willow nodded and followed, not looking upset but a bit somber. She knew something very bad took place here and that now a family was without a father.

“Liam and the others went this way, and I think I hear water. If Liam was leading them he'd have them lose the trail by traveling through the water for a little bit. You can check one side and I'll check the other for where they got out.”

The girl nodded again, always willing to help. She looked back at her mother and the others. "Come on, we're going to follow the river!" she then looked back to her dad "Do you think Liam got them out of here okay? Ms. Moira, can you see where they ended up?"

Inn

Rue couldn't help but to frown a bit, even though she knew both Caitlin and Liam were right...There was no time for this. They could be dead tommorow. They've almost died several times today.

We can... talk more later.

Rue blushed but gave a small nod and forced a smile."O-Okay" she decided.

[Shirasagi Castle: Hallways]

Musashi jumped up, dusted off his hands on his pants, and then headed for the door. He had long since removed his armor and his swords, leaving them in the guest room beside one of the beds. He doubted he needed to be armed in his own home. (Though, his rings were still on his fingers).

“Oh I have tons of siblings. Ryoma's the oldest, but he's no fun these days. I mean he's the Emperor so there's some pressure there, but man do I miss him just being Ryo'. Hinoka – you haven't met her – she's my big sister. Amazing warrior. Has her own Pegasus! She acts all tough but she's a big softie. You met Takumi... he's got a stick up his ass these days, I don't know what his deal is. Haruka-”

He paused for just a moment, and frowned. “... Well, I have a twin named Haruka, but she's... she's not around anymore. Both of us took dad's passing real hard. No idea where she is, but I'm sure she's fine. Then there's Sakura, my little sister. She's around here somewhere, but she's horribly shy so don't be surprised if she's hiding from all the new people.”

“And then there's the one we're going to find... Azura.”

As Musashi spoke about his many siblings, he led Celeste down the hall and out towards one of the balconies. And as they got closer, there was singing clearly coming from the balcony.

Musashi stopped, and fell silent, listening to the singing for a moment. Then he loudly called out: “Hey Azura!”

All at once the song stopped with a shriek. A woman turned around from the edge of the balcony, frowning for a moment, but growing slightly more animated upon seeing Musashi.

“Oh... you're back.”

[Inner Shrine]

“All my father does is sleep.” The woman replied with a frown. “Whereas I live. I protect this clan. I was one of them.”

She turned to face Tamamo for a moment and scowl, before looking back to Hiko. “... My apologies for my rudeness, but this one brings out the worst in me.”

“Come on! I cut off my tails, I've wandered for decades, I was disgraced and reviled by the people I cared about most!” Tamamo jumped up, folding her arms. “I've done everything I can possibly think of! I admitted my wrong, but you still only blame me – what about Yoshirou?”

Silence!” The voice rocked the shrine. The woman narrowed her eyes.

[Ylisse]

[Camelot]

Artoria froze, opening her eyes and scowling towards the man. Archer was... something else. One of the Shepards that protect Ylisse, but far more than just that. She wasn't surprised that he would speak to her this way – it was something she normally appreciated.

“Don't presume things, Archer.” Artoria frowned, as she approached the eternally casual man. “We have problems. A most wicked creature appeared. Diarmund and Lancelot have been injured, and Merlin gathers information now... but I know in my heart what is coming. The March.”

She shook her head. “... Even you must realize what that means for Camelot.”

[Nohr]

[Inn]

Caitlin just grimaced at Rue's words. “Augh don't make me think about this right now, come on, this is weeeeird.”

She didn't quite want to deal with her sister growing up, and Liam going from that weird boy who they played with to... what? What was he? Rue's boyfriend? That was just too strange to really process.

“Come on, we need to get ready to hit the road. We can't stay put.”

Moira watched as Edda and Willow examined the tracks. It was impressive to her that they could tell so much just from studying the ground, and the disturbances to it. She sometimes wondered how people got by like that... Edda made it look easy.

Then Willow called out, and Moira nodded. “I can try. Something is interfering with my sight, though... doesn't make sense, normally I could follow them with no problem but... wait...”

She paused, remembering that Edda had once carried with him a sword of Cold Iron. She grimaced, and looked over at him. “Hey! Did you give Liam your sword? No wonder I can't see them, something like that interferes with divination!”

Laila rolled her eyes for a moment. Samara was so dramatic about all of this. Laila then paused, concentrating and allowing something to appear in her hand... flowing across her fingers was what looked like water – at least, it moved like water, but it was translucent and black.

“Yeah, I am her daughter.” Laila sighed, and let the shadow water disappear. “So I'll deal with this.”

“McCall? I think I know the guy.” Rica frowned. He was no saint, but some of the rumors about Ryan were pretty bad. “But wealth is fleeting, Kanna. Power is what really matters, that's – oh what the hell?”

Rica was cut off as suddenly barreling towards them from the crowd was Laila. Rica stopped dead in the middle of the dance as she walked over to them and stared at her parents with the kind of frown that was unmistakable.

“I need to talk to you two.” Laila muttered, feeling a lot less confident now that she was face to face with her parents.

Zadkiel's sword slammed down, striking at the Waltz and the small creature let out a terrible howl of pain as one of its wings was severed! The leathery wing fell away and the Waltz back up, scooting away from Zadkiel and ringing its bell.

As it did, the Sealion turned its attention away from Didymus and Aiden, roaring and charging at Zadkiel!

The prayer chamber shook as the un-named woman spoke and the world around her shuddered in compliance. She was indeed a powerful spirit, and Hiko let a pause hang in the air as she asserted authority over the area. In fact, it was with great care that he hid his own surprise at how he managed to guess who she was. He never knew this woman, the daughter of the dragon with whom he used to be such good friends. He heard about her, of course, rumors of the imperial line and a different guardian spirit taking up the reins, but he never actually knew her name, met her, or even originally thought of her much.

Both a fortunate and an unfortunate circumstance, since he missed teasing the old scaly bastard about shacking up with some other spirit. Could have been nice to let the shoe be on the other foot for once, he still remembered how much the old dragon used to poke fun at HIM about a certain emperor's daughter...

As the rumble faded away, Hiko let out a sigh.

"... It is probably I who should offer my apologies. I have come here to pay respects to the Kin-ou-ryu, and I should also offer my own gratitude for protecting the imperial line for as long as you have. It is a failing on my part to not realize who you were as I came in, and I apologize for any disrespect levied." The kitsune then turned to her, still seated and bowed as well, by far not fully enough to appear sycophantic, but definitely respectful.

But his mind remained on what he heard. Tamamo, sacrificing and cutting away her own tails. The dragon-daughter, sounding so bitter. He figured there was some form of history Tamamo-no-Mae had with this place and the family residing within, but he didn't figure it was so clouded in darkness, in such heavy bitterness and resentment.

"... It is not my place to truly make commentary on the history that both of you seem so bitter of, but I have come here for a little more than a prayer, ryu-san. In fact, I am here to ask for permission. You have no doubt seen the gathering of trouble north of the Empire... And I come with news that would be most amusing to your father, had he been here to hear them. the Maniwa Nintai have surfaced again and are on the move. I ask for permission to once more operate with the blessing of the Imperial Spirit."

The woman – no, - the Dragon Spirit watched Hiko carefully. She had been harsh to him, but he had not slighted her. She knew of him, and knew he had been good to her chosen clan in Hoshido. Her anger had spilled over from the lingering resentment she had for Tamamo-no-Mae.

She paused, walking over to her shrine and looking down at it, and without looking Tamamo's way she spoke. “I protect this imperial line, for they are my line. Miyamoto Yoshirou, who ruled these lands long ago, was my chosen husband. I lived a life as a human to be with him. The Miyamoto Clan is my legacy, so I watch over them now.”

She listened as he spoke, and she frowned. “The Maniwa? Hmph. Yes I know the name. My father spoke of them, and I remember them from when I lived as a human. Very well, you have my favor, swordsman.”

Her face finally turned to Tamamo, and once more she scowled. “... We shall speak again, I'm sure.”

The Spirit disappeared, leaving Hiko and Tamamo alone.

Tamamo did not speak. She sat in silence, her heart heavy.

Having received the blessing to operate properly, Hiko once more gave the woman a nod of respect. Finally, as she disappeared, he slid back to face the shrine, that smile on his face turning rather sneaky.

"My goodness, she is a rather abrupt sort, isn't she." Was he pouting? "It seems that everyone just seems to forget the rules of propriety these days."

The swordsman remained in silence for a moment, then finally slid away from the shrine proper, crossed his legs into a more comfortable sitting position, and dove into his haori, pulling out that mysterious bottle and two cups. Once more, a golden-green, glimmering liquid filled both cups, and he hid the jar away, holding out one of the cups to the woman.

"Here. We are in a place of spirits, Tamamo-san. No reason to waste an opportunity, hm?"
