-Nohr- Carriage Rue tried to move back to the horse, attempting to heal it, even as the flames surrounded them. She tried to focus, but also tried to work as quickly as possible. Soon she was getting lightheaded from the heat, the girl moving to shimmy out of her jacket in effort to keep working. As she did this though she was met with another bandit directly in front of her, grabbing her by her long curly hair. “Rue!” Instantly she yelped, turning and grabbing at the man holding her hair, doing her best to keep her distance from his other hand. She had no weapon so she moved to grab his hand with the knife with her still glowing hands. Train "Your mother doesn't like me, but....Perhaps your grandmother will help. I can tell you trust her, even if you don't know much about her..."Samara said looking out the window. In the distance she could see a city.... "Would you prefer me not to be part of you anymore?" she asked. "I mean....If it's even possible" |

[Hoshido] [Tokohotsu Shrine] The flaming heads were easy targets: They simply floated, made snarling faces and every once in a while tried to rush forward to headbutt a target. Aside from that, they were incredibly easy to defeat, requiring just a slash of a blade or two. Celest's steam blasts were particularly effective, destroying several of the floating demon heads at once. But they didn't stop coming down. As Musashi and Celeste defeated quite a few, Musashi's wind blades now also additionally wrapped in some lingering flame from the demon heads he's slain and Celest's spells tearing them apart, it seemed that for every two of the heads slain, three showed in their place, and more came, small dots floating from the warped sky above to burst into flame as one of the demonic visages, further surrounding the fighters and becoming ever more troublesome as their numbers started to make up for their relative weakness. And as the fight dragged on, the Oni-bi were growing in number... And distracting from the real threat. The Onryoki, free of attacks heading its way, closed in on Celeste as she focused her spells on the heads, dragging the massive chains behind it but still moving despite the weight. And just as another head fell to Celeste's spell, the massive demon that served as the center of local corruption roared and acted, launching itself into the air as far as it could with the chains still holding it down to the ground, trying to ground-slam the sorceress. Hiko in the meantime focused entirely on slaying those heads that came close to himself and the priestess he was defending at the moment. With his unreal speed, he kept flashing in some direction only to return to his previous position just a blink of an eye later, looking entirely unruffled and with the wooden blade still in hand, even if now it was obvious that what he was usually holding his hands to was an actual sword, hidden within a wooden sheath that looked much like a boken. As the fight continued on, his motions could finally be recognizable as his allies grew more accustomed to such fast-paced battle as Hiko brought, even though his motions were still blurring in their quickness, it was still possible for the experienced eye to see that he was indeed simply dashing toward a floating visage with single, quick leaps, draw-striking with the blade as part of the leap, and then returning back to whence he came while simultaneously sheathing the blade and returning to the standard iai draw stance. But the swordsman was not doing anything about the large demon at all, focusing all of his efforts on keeping the priestess clear of enemies. However, even as he continued, more and more of these demonic heads showed up, and his circle of movement grew narrower and narrower, even if his attacks because of that were growing more frequent, his sudden leaps increasing in number and the amount of time he spent standing and focusing growing less frequent as a result... [Nohr] [Carriage/Field] “SH*T!” Caitlin shouted as a flaming arrow slammed into the ground near her feet and she saw massive flames sprout up, burning through the dried grasses. She jumped to the side and bit down on her lip. She wasn't the kind of spell-caster who could do something about anything – she mostly relied on the runes etched on her special knife, and she had nothing to fight fire with. Graham on the other hand had several tricks up his sleeves. He let the glowing ethereal bow disappear from his hands and clapped them together; the magic swirled around his palms and he concentrated, and then slammed an open-palmed fist on the ground – and sent out a wave of magic in every direction, a high-pressured wave of magic that would hopefully extinguish the flames! However – it left him open! [House] Garnet frowned, but nodded. She moved towards the door. “Then let's make haste, I doubt my siblings will give up the pursuit...” [Hoshido] [Tokohotsu Shrine] Things were getting bad. The smaller flaming heads offered little in terms of a real threat beyond their massive numbers. They were everywhere, and their numbers seemed inexplicably to grow the more of them that were slain. Musashi was getting tired. He had been using his Rings a lot and it took a toll on him, especially when he was moving so fast. The additional Haste from Celeste had been very useful, but it meant he was moving far faster than he was accustomed to and that placed an extra strain on his body. Tamamo watched, and she bit down on her lip. This situation was getting worse and worse... but she did have something she could do. Suddenly there was a bright flash of light from her body and everyone around them would feel a massive SURGE of magical energy. The illusion was dispelled, and atop her head were two large fuzzy orange ears, and from the back of her dress a bushy orange tail had poked out and was RADIATING energy. ![]() Her oversized mirror began to fly around her in a circular pattern, and several onafuda strips appeared out of thin air, glowing pink and spiraling around her body. She spoke in a language that was similar to that of the East, but far older – and then suddenly Celeste, Hiko and Musashi would feel magic flowing through their veins. A powerful, potent and ancient magic surging through every fiber of their beings, encircling their skin, their bones, their sinew, their blood, their hair – every atom of every cell of their bodies was suddenly brimming with magic. Whatever injuries they had were healed in a flash, and whatever magic they had expelled was suddenly restored – and not just restored, but TRIPLED from their normal limits. They would feel lighter, yet stronger. Faster, tougher, they would even think more clearly. “Now! You should be able to strike this creature down – do so and I'll cleanse the shrine!” Tamamo called out boldly. |

-Nohr- City “...We can not be sure we have dodged our pursuers, but we will eventually be discovered if we wait,” Zadkiel said after a moment, going to the door as well. “We need to get out of the city as quick as we can.” Carriage Liam burst through the flames, a look of anger on his face as he came into contact with the man holding unto Rue. “Let her go!” he yelled, slashing his sword at the man. Train Blake was quiet for a long moment, thinking carefully, before he took Samara's hand, smiling at her. “I want you to be able to make your own decisions all on your own,” Blake said, “No matter what happens, we'll still be friends!” -Galdwin- Capitol Gallic eyed Richard II for a long moment, then glanced to his father. “As it is, even if it weren't for the Black March, I wish to bring Aurelia into the world proper. The previous king was not too keen on others, but that will be changed,” Gallic said simply. -Hoshido- Tokohotsu Shrine Celeste found the giant beast coming at her now, focusing as her cold magic swirled, shooting down at the beast as it came at her, slowing it down as she moved away. Then Tamamo did... something, and Celeste felt herself reenergized, her magic flowing back stronger then before. One hand continued the ice spell, intent on keeping the creature from getting closer, while her other arm sparked, focusing on a lightning spell, blasting it forward as well, unleashing a blast of ice and lightning! |

[Nohr] [Carriage/Field] “Let her go!” Rue squeezed her eyes shut as Liam's sword came down at the bandit holding her, the sound of metal against flesh unmistakable- and if it wasn't the bandit's scream was enough. The bandit's grip on her hair slacked and she was able to scramble free, scrambling to Liam's side. Suddenly a wave of magic from Graham hit the area, instantly extinguishing the flames and knocking back many of the men. Many of the bandits who were in the fight had been knocked out, but one was able to come at him from behind and with a glint of a knife attempted to stab him in the back! [Train] Samara looked down at her pale hands as Blake took them before looking up at him and giving him a tiny nod. “No matter what happens, we'll still be friends!” "Okay....We can talk to your grandmother...Perhaps she can help" she said softly. It was weird....But she felt something. She didn't know what it was... She was excited. Or maybe anxious....Either way she wasn't used to feeling it. Samara turned back to the window, staring at the city that was coming into view. |

[Nohr] [Carriage/Field] Graham was tired after the large burst of his magic, and he was unprotected – and while he heard the grass crunch from the man whow as running at him, he was not quite fast enough. He spun around and tried to stop the attack, but the knife slammed down into his shoulder and he yelled out in pain. Caitlin heard the scream and she felt a sense of dread. She turned and rushed as fast as she could, pressing her finger down on a different run on her knife and letting magic flow through it as she threw it – and the knife spun through the air, spinning and streaking towards the man who had stabbed Graham, aiming to stab him! [Galdwin] [Capitol] “My father was not a good man.” Rin spoke up, bolder than she had been before. “I am well aware of what happened during his reign. The pain he caused, the things he embraced. I know the reputation Aurelia developed because of him... but my father is dead, and things have changed.” |

Nohr [House] Didymus was wary, as usual, attempting to look out the windows. "If we can be sure we can slip out without being seen at once, than yes, we should go, and leave as quickly as possible..." he said. Galdwin [Capitol] Richard II looked like he once again was going to say something, but with his father's watchful eye on him that look quickly passed. "That is good to hear." Richard I said. "I am sure we would not be the only ones glad to hear that." |

[Nohr] [Carriage/Field] The man who attacked Graham didn't expect a knife to magically come at him, so when it did it stabbed right through his neck with no fight, causing the man to fall over dead. At this point most of the bandits were dead or dying, and the few others who weren't were now making a hasty retreat in order to escape with their lives. The ground still smoldered a bit, and the stench of blood was strong enough to even make the strongest of stomach quiver.... Rue looked around with wide eyes, still standing close to Liam. With a small gasp she realized that the man who had driven their coach was lying dead on the ground as well, not too far from his horse, an arrow in his back. She pushed down the a familiar feeling of nausea before spotting Caitlin and Graham-who was very much injured. The girl's eyes widened and she rushed over. |

[Hoshido] [Tokohotsu Shrine] The mana boost was insane. Hiko felt his reserves of magical energy, mostly full as they were, completely top off and then expand to almost four times their usual maximum, and he could barely keep a hold of so much power. It surged in him, roiling and just waiting to be unleashed, and he knew right then that if he wanted to, then he could truly do something wondrous. It was so much power, he had such an energetic buzz from it that he could almost feel the magical energy sparking in between his fingertips, his hairs, his every cell. It was too much. It interfered with his concentration, muddles his mind with just the wish to ACT, to DO, to USE that energy for SOMETHING. And he couldn't for it was base magical energy, and at the moment he was using spiritual power to interface with the spirit of the Celestial Rabbit. It was the disadvantage of having two wells of power to draw from. And all his magic brimming this much, it caused another problem. Another major functional problem. By tripling his magical reserve at the moment, Tamamo's magic inadvertently triggered Hiko's own nature, and with so much energy running through him and unable to be contained, it manifested in the only way it could. Hiko gained a temporary eighth pseudo-tail. Luckily, that remained fully hidden under the illusion, but it also shot his control to crap. All of his magic was suddenly focused on needing to keep the illusion of what he was going, and his focus wavered from the spirit manifestation. No longer supporting spiritual power into the invocation of the Celestial Rabbit, the spirit bounced out of Hiko's existence and disappeared in a flash of light, returning to the Celestial realms. No longer as quick as a blur and utterly focused on keeping his magic in check, Hiko was completely blindsided by a sudden charge from a nearby Oni-bi that slammed into his side and sent him stumbling as he suddenly had to contend with flames that transferred to his haori and began to burn away at his clothing, along with the force of a charging, burning head. It wasn't a particularly hard hit, but it unbalanced Hiko enough to sent him stumbling out of position and down to one knee. And that was a catastrophic position for him to end up in. At the same moment, Celeste was moving away from the Onryoki that focused on her. As she backed up, the creature drew closer, and right as Hiko was foorced out of position and stumbling by the charge of one of the flaming demonic heads, the Onryoki came barreling in from the side chasing Celeste. With a mighty swing of one of those muscular, twisted arms, the Onryoki batted Hiko like striking a baseball with a bat at full swing, making full contact with the swordsman's torso with a terrifying crack. Hiko's form was blasted off his feet and sent flying back through the entrance of the shrine like someone just rammed with a rolling cart, over the stairs that they have ascended into the shrine in an arc that slammed him against the bottom-most steps as he tumbled the rest of the way down. He didn't get back up. The Onryoki, completely ignoring the fact that it just swatted a gnat, continued to chase Celeste and that's when it took two powerful spells dead-on. A torrent of frost slowed its movements and lightning further played across its body, leaving behind scars of damaged flesh. The Onryoki roared in defiance, however, and continued to move right through Celest's spell torrent, its magic-resistant hide protecting it from the very worst of the damage as its fury drew closer... -Nohr- Carriage Liam breathed heavily, leaning on his sword as he fought not to throw up, stumbling after Rue as she hurried over to her sister and Graham. “They might return... we should get off the road...” Liam warned. Train Blake smiled happily, watching as the city got nearer. Sage blinked away suddenly, shaking his head, then shook Joyce carefully. “Joyce, we're almost there.” House “No one is watching, let's go,” Zadkiel said, opening the door and heading out first, taking point, his hand on the hilt of his blade in case he needed to draw it. -Galdwin- Capitol Gallic remained quiet, thinking. -Hoshido- Tokohotsu Shrine Celeste gritted her teeth as the Onryoki continued to move towards her. She saw Hiko get slammed and sent flying, eyes widening. She raised her hands, focusing now as she changed her spells, the ice and lightning changing into small orbs, barreling forward and exploding around the Onryoki with blasts of fire! |

[Hoshido] [Tokohotsu Shrine] Tamamo had no idea her boost of power would so negatively impact Hiko, but she couldn't focus on that at the moment. Instead she had to make the most of her own increased power for the time being to do as much as she could against the demonic opponents who still threatened them all. Her hands flashed with red and blue as she rushed forward, jumping into the air and landing on her mirror – which began to fly her around like a great spinning disc beneath her feet, floating her above the battlefield. “May the blessing of Amaterasu shine on, and the corrupted be purified!” She shouted out – and she began to rain down massive balls of fire and ice from the sky, them flying out towards the various evil creatures that were descending upon them. Musashi, meanwhile, had spotted Hiko go down and rushed as quickly as he could to his side, swords still draw in-case something attacked along the way. “Hiko! Hey! Are you alive? Can you hear me?” [Nohr] [Carriage] “Damn lowlife scumbags!” Caitlin shouted as she wiped blood from her knife on her leg, and then slipped it away in its sheathe. She paused, looking at Graham's bleeding shoulder, and then at Rue's horrified face. She bit her lip. “Rue, I know you're freakin' out right now, but can you patch up Graham? You're way better at healing than I am.” Caitlin also knew that her sister would likely have an easier time processing this if she had a task to focus on, instead of just dwelling on the carnage around them. She looked over at Liam. “We will, after Graham is fixed up. I don't want him moving too much.” [House] Garnet followed after Zadkiel, still unsure about this whole thing, but slowly following behind. |

Nohr Zadkiel moved out first and Garnet seemed to be moving after them. Didymus made sure Aiden was coming with them, but stuck closer to Garnet, with a silent prayer for guidance and protection. Blessed Order had given him the task to ensure Garnet's return/escape at the cost of every one of them who had come-and he WOULD fulfill that or die trying. |

[Hoshido] [Tokohotsu Shrine] Unfortunately for the group, the way Hiko got smacked out of the way also put a stop to one other important function that he was performing at the time. His guardian spirit, manifested through the paper charm into the little hornet, zipped away towards the fallen form of its master, intent on protecting it. That served to sever the spiritual link that Hiko had initiated between the befouled real realms and the spirit realms. The air grew heavy with corruption, filled with the sickening-sweet smell of decay and pervasive malice, making focus just that little bit harder to achieve... And even more importantly, allowing the corruption to once more pervade the area unrestrained, reinforcing the resilience of the Onryoki and other entities born of the corruption there. It wasn't a problem for powerful spellcasters like Tamamo and Celeste though, and both of them pummeled the enormous demon with flame raining from Celeste's hands like machine gun of fireballs, and the immense bombardment of comet-like flame from above that slammed into the demonic entity again and again and again. It roared, its flesh searing and scarring over, its magical resistance withholding it from taking lethal damage from the absolute bombardment that it was undergoing, but it stopped moving and was now protecting its head with both massive arms, trying to ward away the incoming flame. The bombardment was enough to absolutely annihilate most of the Oni-Bi that have appeared. Their masses have been growing steadily until there were over three dozen of them floating around, but this series of explosions and detonations scorched the earth, blasted apart stone, and reduced their number from over thirty to a mere three. However... As the bombardment continued, there was the sound of something breaking and shattering, and the Onryoki roared in defiance and... Glee? And suddenly, out of the bombardment and flame that almost completely obscured it from vision, came one of those massive balls of metal, flying right at Tamamo at speeds difficult to avoid, thrown by the Onryoki. Its chain... Was no longer attached. The damage from Tamamo's spell hurt the demon, but not nearly enough to kill it, but it also completely shattered its links to the metal orbs that slowed it down so much. And now, having thrown the first ball at Tamamo like a projectile, it leapt into the air to almost twice its own height, trying to bear down on Celeste from above and crush her beneath a massive pummeling two-handed blow! Hiko groaned as his vision swam back into focus. When Musashi got there, the swordsman was already stirring, turning to the side and spitting blood to the ground and rising off the ground on his hands and knees. Without time to really assess the damage, he couldn't tell if he still even HAD ribs on the left side of his body or if they were just powder now, even a backhanded slap like that was almost too much for him to handle. He still lived, thankfully, but he knew that he no longer had it in him to dance about so well. His loss of focus cost him. It seems he was getting rusty, having been out of the world's adventures and threats for so long for something like that Onryoki to land such a solid hit on him. "It seems... I may have overestimated my capabilities, Musashi-san..." He coughed again, hacking up more blood. "It falls to you to truly land a killing blow, Musashi-san. This one is... Particularly resilient to ma-*COUGH*... Magic. Only a blade could truly pierce it. Please, act quickly, for it sounds like it might have just been freed from its shackles..." He slowly sat up, the hornet buzzing about his head and Hiko winced, as though he was actually hit physically once again. "I know, Suzume-chan, but this is... Not the time. I will be fine, I simply need some breathing room. I implore you to return to keeping the spirit path open." The hornet buzzed angrily, diving at his head repeatedly a few times as though aiming to sting, though not doing so at the last second. Hiko just sighed. "... Yes, I know. I was foolish, Suzume-chan, I know that well. But the battle is not over, and you will be free to berate me after the threat is over. Please." The hornet's buzzing quieted to a low hum... And then the little spirit-bee zipped its way back to where it used to hover close to Tamamo, and suddenly the air once more felt a little cleaner, a little easier to breathe in, and no longer overwhelmced with its evil and cloying odor... [Nohr] [Carriage] “Rue, I know you're freakin' out right now, but can you patch up Graham? You're way better at healing than I am.” Rue was terrified, but when Caitlin asked her to head Graham she snapped out of it and rushed to the man's side. Her father was quick to teach her focus, especially dealing with injured people, so for the moment she put what happened out of her head and worked on Graham. Rue moved down to his side and quickly helped Graham shrug out of his jacket. She wished she knew where her bag was, as it wuld be helpful to clean the wound, but for now she placed her hand over the gaping wound, focusing with every bit of energy she had left. “They might return... we should get off the road...” "Where do we go?" Rue asked, eyes still on the wound. [Train] Joyce awake groggily, looking around a blinking away a bit of sleep in her eyes. Once she gathered her bearing she noticed the city quickly approaching as well. "Oh maaaaaan it's bigger than I remember it" she said with a smile. [...] On the train platform a woman stood waiting, an even expression on her face as she waited for Joyce... |

-Hoshido- Tokohotsu Shrine Celeste saw the creature leap into the air, coming down at her now. If it hadn't been for Tamamo's boost, she would be unable to do much, but with the magic running through her, she focused, teleporting with a burst of magic, appearing higher in the air above the Onryoki. She focused, orbs of magic flying from her hands now, zipping through the air to slam into the creature from multiple angles, the orbs of force slamming into it! -Nohr- Carriage Liam patted through the driver's pockets, taking a few supplies and seeing if there was any identification, to return to the man's family if he had any. “May you rest in peace...” Liam said softly over the man's body, then turned back to the others, watching as Rue worked to heal Graham. “If I remember right, there's a river not too far from here. As soon as Graham can move, we'll head there, find someplace we can camp for the night, then we'll head out in the morning,” Liam said. -Train- The train soon came to a stop at the platform, Sage stretching and grabbing his and Joyce's bags, walking out with Joyce on the platform. Blake followed, pausing as he saw Kanna, smiling. “Grandma!” Blake said, hurrying over to Kanna. “How are you?” |
