[Hoshido] [Tokohotsu Shrine] As the thing turned to face the group and its beady eyes focused on the intruders, Hiko's serene voice answered Celeste's question. "Onryoki. A yokai, a demon on your terms, born of malice and fury, guilt and depravity. One half of it is fury itself, while the other twisted half is born of great grudges and warped emotions. It feeds off of the corruption of this place, and the darkness feeds off of its presence. While it stands, this place cannot be purified... And this place cannot be purified while it still remains. This is your last chance to turn back and away. From here on... You might very well be in a battle for your life, and perhaps even more." The swordsman brought both of his hands up, and a small paper charm flitted from out of the sleeve of his haori, which unfolded by itself in mid-air and... Began to buzz as spiritual power emanated from it in a small burst, suddenly transforming what used to be just a piece of paper into a semi-transparent, buzzing hornet. "I believe it is out turn, Suzume-chan! Tamamo-san, if you would please lead the ritual of purification? Your strength far surpasses mine in such arts, I can only aid you in small ways from here on. We would need to time it correctly to when our friends here will weaken the Onryoki enough to finish it, for if we miss the timing, it will simply keep recovering all of its strength. Musashi-san, Celest-san, if you would please weaken it while we prepare the purification rites? I caution you, keep its chains upon it for as long as you can. The chains signify the remains of its self-restraint, take care that it does not break them for it shall become an infinitely more dangerous opponent if that happens. However, like any oni, those horns glowing upon its brow are the source of its power. If you shall sever or damage those, you would greatly weaken it, which would make our efforts that much easier." The spirit hornet that kept buzzing about Hiki's hands settled on them and the smiling man concentrated as he muttered out. "Rin. Pyō. Tō. Sha. Kai. Jin. Retsu. Zai. Zen." Then, with an almost thundering clap, he clasped his hands together, one folded upon the other, and in answer, one could almost HEAR the distant ringing of a gong... -Nohr- Carriage Liam oofed as the carriage was tipped to the side, catching Rue as his side hit the side of the carriage. “Rue, stay inside,” Liam said. He reached into his bag and pulled out a couple small stones, scrambling up and opening the door of the carriage that faced the sky. He cracked the stones in his hand, then tossed them upwards, where they exploded in a sudden flash of light, Liam pulling himself up and darting out of the carriage, using the distraction to scramble out, pulling out his sword and charging for the nearest bandit! Train Blake paused, thinking. “Would I? My sister Kyran can use the shadows, but she doesn't have anyone like you... Maybe I'd keep them still...” -Hoshido- Tokohotsu Shrine “I've gone this far... not gonna back down now...” Celeste said. She focused her magic. Clouds appeared above the Onryoki, lightning crackling before it started to rain down on the beast! |

[Nohr] [Carriage] Caitlin fell hard on her side and groaned as she felt her shoulder ache. Graham had fallen forward as well, but managed to catch himself on the side of the carriage, and already the glowing blue eye had disappeared from his face and his right hand instead had a blue glow. “Rue, stay in the carriage!” Caitlin followed the same warning that Liam had given, and then she jumped out of the side, drawing a knife from her belt. Unlike Liam she did not charge, instead staying next to the carriage and staying low. Graham, however, bolted out of the side and the glowing magic in his hand formed into the shape of a bow. He jumped down behind the fallen horse and aimed with the bow, and a bright glowing burst of magic shot out towards the nearest bandit! [Hoshido] [Tokohotsu Shrine] “I've got this – I can purify this spirit, but not in its current form!” Tamamo shouted out to the others, as the mirror she had pulled from beneath her robes now started to fly on its own, floating around her and shining. The bright golden orbs along the rim of the mirror were giving off a bright glow, and there was a gathering of energy around it. The mirror was... a splendid thing. Deep cerulean metal, shining golden orbs notched along its sides, and a shining surface, sparkling like the ocean on a clear day. Even to the untrained eye, it was something special – brimming with magic and power unlike many objects ever could. Musashi had never fought with such a creature. He had come across a yokai before a time or two, but during those situations he hadn't been alone, and they certainly hadn't been as strong as this thing. He held his swords strong in his hand as he concentrated, watching the winds billow around one, and flames burn along the edge of the other. “Celeste! If you can keep the pressure on it from a distance, I'll get in close and try to lop off those horns – that should give us a big advantage, but I'll need you to get its attention!” When the lightning started to rain down on the demon, Musashi decided it was as good a cover as any – he charged forward, dashing at the beast and jumping to try to deliver a pair of nasty slashes into its side! [Galdwin] [Castle] “... Nothing is ever a simple matter. There are some things that cannot, and should not, be ignored... but at the same time, given the enormity of the threat the March produces, it is better to work together than not.” |

[Nohr] [Carriage] The sky lit up in a flash as Liam threw the stones from his bag, and temporarily distracted the bandits long enough for Liam to climb out. This distraction also aided Graham, as one of the bandits wouldn't realize his arrow was coming at him until it was too late. With a agonizing scream he was hit, falling back into the hard ground with a loud thump. That still left a handful of bandits though, the men mounted on horses and coming at them fast. Two came at Graham, two Liam and another at Caitlin (because surely a young woman wouldn't be able to fight back?) "Hey there little lady..." one of the bandits purred, eying Caitlin like she was a small bird rather than a dangerous young woman "How about you come with me, it's better if you don't fight" Meanwhile Rue hid in the carriage, a sense of panic coming over her. She knew she needed to listen to Caitlin and Liam, but she also had an overwhelming need to help. After a moment the girl took a deep breath and climbed out of the carriage, looking around at the mayhem around her. Instantly she spotted the downed horse that once had been pulling them, the girl instantly going into doctor mode- even if it was only an animal. She rushed over to it (trying her best to stay unnoticed) and moved quickly to pull one of the arrows out of it's neck before quickly placing her glowing hands over the wound. [Train] Samara sat and thought about what Blake said about his little sister...He had a point. "Why do you think you have something like me when she doesn't?" the girl asked. "You have me....And your mother had one like me as well right?" Maybe Melanie and Blake were just different...Samara wasn't sure if it was a good different or a bad one. |

[Nohr] [Carriage] As the two bandits mounted on horseback came charging at Graham, he simply waved one of his hands without a word and two more bright magical 'arrows' shot out, flying towards the men. He could have more easily stopped them if he aimed at the horses, but he'd never liked that approach. Caitlin on the other hand looked up ta the bandit who was eyeing her. She slipped her hand over the hilt of the dagger. There were several odd runes decorating the handle, and she let her finger run over one of them. The tip of her finger glowed, and the rune reacted and the blade began to glow a faint blue. “Tempting offer, but I think we'll have a lot more fun my way.” Caitlin smiled – and then she slashed the dagger in the air, and from the blade shot a small crescent shaped burst of energy that would fly towards the man! |

[Hoshido] [Tokohotsu Shrine] Celeste's attack signified the beginning of the battle, and what she got in return was a roar of fury as the creature finally decided the group was a threat. Lightning struck down on the creature from the sky, raining on its shoulders and head, and washing over it, letting crackles of powerful electric currents loose around it. However, the creature itself seemed entirely unfazed by the lightning, ignored it and focused on Celeste. At the same moment as Musashi rushed in to attack, the creature grasped the chains that bound its arms and swung, actually picking up the chains and the heavy metal balls, each larger than the size of a man, and swung them around, actually picking them up off the ground and spinning them in front of itself and allowing them to gather momentum as the creature brought both of its hands into the air and then down, the huge metallic spheres following the motion, spinning around its body once and then coming over its head and slamming into the ground, sending out a massive shockwave that headed for the group. Hiko, seeing the incoming shockwave, let his spirit hover for just a moment on its own and turned his attention elsewhere stepping between Tamamo and the incoming blast, coiling and bringing his hand to his blade as the wave of force from the slam came closer, and with a flash of light and the sound of sheathing steel, he CUT into the shockwave, forcing it past himself and Tamamo with no harm. To the inexperienced eye, the motion was just a blur, and would be nigh indecipherable, but an experienced combatant would be able to make out that it wasn't just a swing. The wooden blade he wielded was a blade of steel hidden within wood, and his iai draw was just that quick, to pass in a mere flash of light and the sound of steel being sheathed in wood. Unfortunately, he couldn't do much for Musashi or Celeste, which had to deal with the attack on their own. Musashi managed to carve into the creature's size just before the shockwave came, and he was close, almost point-blank to the force of the impact, while Celeste had more leeway. But just as Hiko was about to relax, his hand still on the handle of that wooden blade hanging upon his waist, dots of light rained down from above in the sky, growing as they fell, bursting into bright flame as they came in touch with the ground, and flying back into the air to hover, revealing demonic visages made of pure flame that danced about like the very element they embodied, furious and snarling faces glaring from the flames. And that made Hiko a lot more focused. "... Oh dear. This... Might be a bit more difficult than I expected." And a second later, he had to dodge as the first of the floating heads made of flame breathed a small fireball in his direction. Edited by HellAvatar, Aug 21 2017, 08:21 PM.

[Nohr] [Carriage] With a shout both men Graham aimed at were simultaneously knocked off their horses, thrown to the ground in unmoving heaps. Several bandits noticed the attack on their comrads but did not come to their aid, instead keeping their distance and shooting a dozen arrows at Graham in a sudden flurry of metal. “Tempting offer, but I think we'll have a lot more fun my way.” Another shout and the bandit was thrown back painfully, shakily pulling himself up and glaring at Caitlin "Witch!" he exclaimed, unable to explain the girl's power, pulling out his own dagger, ready to slit her throat. "A harpy like you should die right here!" [...] Rue managed to get through three arrows before she felt a small pulse in the horse's neck, the creature's eyes fluttering weakly. The girl gave a little sigh of relief, ready to get to work on the last one- "Hey there little girl..." Rue froze, scrambling from the horse's side as a man holding a bloody knife stood over her. Her mother and father would have never expected her to travel at night, thus the girl had no read weapons which left her defenseless. She made a move to run but was stopped when the man dropped to her level on the ground, holding her down and moving for her skirt. While she had no weapons her father HAD told he what she could do if a man tried to make an advance at her. At the time she thought it quite an overreaction for a man acting like a creep- but now...... Instantly the teenager's face went red and Rue landed a mighty kick of her boot square on the man's face, instantly breaking his nose. He let out a roar of pain and Rue scrambled up, kicking him again in the face for good measure. |

[Hoshido] [Tokohotsu Shrine] Musashi was in a predicament. He had successfully sheared his swords through the demonic creature's side – a potent combination of his seemingly metal blades, flame and razor-sharp winds cutting into the foul beast and tearing at its flesh. However, the follow-up attacks he had counted on were now off the table as the shockwave erupted and Musashi was left with precious little time to deal with it. The Ring of Wind could easily give him the reflexes and speed necessary to dodge away even from this point-blank attack; but that Ring was currently embedded in one of his swords, supplying its magical might to the blade and not its wielder. Musashi was caught by the shockwave and thrown high into the air, spinning around and screaming out as he fell. The sheer kinetic force of the wave was enough to hurt him – but it would be the fall from this height that would prove fatal. Spinning in midair, Musashi pointed his sword down below him and concentrated – and there was a great burst of wind from his sword that shot him back up, but this time allowed him enough time to steady himself and land on his feet. His muscles ached from the pure force of the shockwave, but he managed to stay on his feet, gritting his teeth. Tamamo, meanwhile, was shielded from the wave with Hiko's help. She frowned, and gave a silent nod to him as she concentrated all of her prowess on the task at hand. She needed to cleanse this creature, but she couldn't do that while it was so strong. [Nohr] [Carriage] “Uh oh,” Graham recognized trouble as the skies above him suddenly darkened with the shadow of several arrows. The bow in his hand twisted and changed, forming into a large round shield which he brought up and then scrunched behind, blocking as much of his body as he could as the arrows rain downed – luckily they bounced away from the now-solid and glowing blue shield. Caitlin, meanwhile, had a problem of her own. Although she had cut the bandit, he was still alive and looked ready to fight. Caitlin moved back, trying to keep distance between herself and the bandit. She touched the symbol on the hilt of her dagger and slashed again, shooting forth a small burst of magic to try to keep him back. “I'd rather not kill you but don't think I won't!” |

Nohr [House] Didymus paused, his mind reflecting on what to say. He knew their path ahead, and though he regretted what he had to do to get this far, Cid had ordered it. "...their fate is, for the moment, not our concern, save for in prayer." he said. "They are doing their best to buy us time-I was ordered to go with you and leave them behind by Cid himself. The best thing we can do concerning them, therefore, is pray and accomplish our mission." Galdwin [Capitol] Richard II met Gallic's gaze unflinchingly. "Indeed," his father spoke, before he had a chance to. "The Black March is one of those sadly rare times where the nations unite. At least there's THAT upside to it, hmm?" He quickly glanced at his son, who said nothing. |

[Hoshido] The balls of light kept descending from the sky, one after another, and more and more of the burning faces appeared around the group, descending mostly upon Tamamo and her current protector. Several of them began to circle, and a few homed in on Celeste as well, shooting a few small balls of flame in her direction. Several began to chase down Musashi, trying to follow him, but it would take them time to get there. As for the massive demonic onryoki itself, it turned about and started to follow Musashi, dragging its chains after itself. It was slow, lumbering, and relatively easy to stay away from, but now Musashi had multiple enemies to face in the form of burning faces as well. And even more of them came down from the sky above. With well over a dozen of them floating about, Hiko decided that it was time to take the scale of his own ability up. For the entire time he had been upon the shrine grounds, he was building up spiritual power. Aside from the slash he used to sever the incoming shockwave to protect the priestess, he had barely expected any of his ki, as his dodges barely expended any of the spiritual force he built. He focused, coiled, and the ki that he had been building suddenly spiked, manifesting for just a moment into a burst of titanic spiritual presence, and then it was all gone as he spoke. "Suzume-chan, I will leave the link to you. Now... Norito no Seirei: Yumigami Gyokuto." As he spoke, for just a moment, there was a flare somewhere in the sky, somewhere where a certain constellation of stars shone, just for a moment twinkling much brighter. And down below, for a second, a ghostly, mostly transparent form of a hare, streaked with the red markings of a celestial spirit, bounced from some direction and in a circle around Hiko, before leaping at him and vanishing once more. And as it did, a soft glow began to emanate from Hiko's ankles and legs. It was almost unbelievable. Just a few moments before, he felt like a swordsman, a spirit of skill and sword with a definite 'tinge' of something canine, something wily and cunning. But then, it all changed. Now, Hiko felt more like prey instead of predator, as though his very spirit changed aura and form, as though he somehow changed himself on a basic, instinctual level into something entirely different. And while there was still a hint of something dangerous and sharp to his spirit, the majority felt as though he had just transformed himself into a small leporid, all senses paying attention to him revealing him not as a swordsman with something canine, but a hare... And then, in a flash of movement that before belonged only to his sword, HE was gone, and one of the faces burst into sparks of flame and light, cut apart with a passing strike, Hiko appearing behind it for just a fraction of a moment before he was gone again and another flaming face was taken down in bright red sparks. In flickers that were difficult to follow with the trained eye, he moved from face to face, in just a second's time clearing away all of the ones that targeted Tamamo, and in a final and similar burst of movement he was back to standing in front of Tamamo, in the same position as though he hadn't moved at all. [Hoshido] [Tokohotsu Shrine] The massive, demonic faces were everywhere and Musashi was in trouble. He was aching enough from that fall and now he was surrounded on all sides by these faces. What's more they were burning bright, covered in flames and spitting fire too. That made a flaming sword a lot less useful, and he didn't exactly have time to swap out the ring on the handle. He slipped the flaming sword back into its sheath and his hand disappeared inside his shirt for a moment as he dug for something, and then withdrew a small blue ring which he slipped over his right hand. “Please, just this one time help me out!” Musashi yelled out as he thrust his hand forward and there was a shine of blue light and then - a soft stream of bubbles shot from his hand, gently floating towards one of the flaming demon head's. “DAMN IT!” Musashi shouted in frustration. Realizing the Ring of Water would be no help to him (as always), he focused back in on his Windy Sword, rushing forward and slashing at the nearest head! Tamamo, meanwhile, could only watch in wonder and amazement as Hiko... changed. He was different now, his aura was changed and his scent was... now something else. Previously his scent had been unmistakably fox-like, so much so that Tamamo had some suspicions as to whether or not he was truly human. Now... he smelled like a rabbit. Tamamo's stomach growled and she felt her cheeks grow hot. Now wasn't a time to think about food, and especially not if that 'food' was a companion. “Good job!” She called to Hiko all the same, seeing him clear away the flaming heads. Her focus was more on the giant demon though. “But we still have a big problem...” [Nohr] [House] Garnet frowned at Didymus' words, but she saw the wisdom in them. She had risked everything to get to Galdwin in the hope that she could save her family... she had known it would be dangerous, and she knew she was asking Cid and whoever came with him to risk their lives. And it broke her heart. She had never been comfortable with the idea that someone else would risk themselves for her. Whether it was Steiner and the Knights, her siblings, or any of the many soldiers who fought in the name of her family. She couldn't help but feel remorseful for those who died in her name... it made her wish she had never been born into royalty at all. “... I know, I just... I am sorry. I did not want anyone to...” |

[Nohr] [Carriage] "I'll be the one doing the killing tonight you witch!" The bandit came at Caitlin again, but like before he was knocked back by a massive burst of magic. It was unexplainable, but that only enraged the bandit as he crumpled to the ground in a barely conscious heap. The bandits were quickly discovering that they had not overtaken a normal coach, but at the same time they weren't quite ready to give up. When their arrows failed to penetrate Graham's armor they decided to go another route- "Burn it to the ground!" Suddenly the arrows (and men) coming at the group were engulfed in flames, shooting down at the coach and group and leaving Caitlin, Graham, Liam, Rue and the driver surrounded by flames. Now with the fire to deal with they also had a several men coming at them ready to slit their throats! |

-Hoshido- Tokohotsu Shrine Celeste saw the shockwave coming, leaping into the air, flying now as her magic swelled around her, giving her greatly improved mobility. “Flaming heads, lovely,” Celeste muttered. She focused her magic, ice shards appearing around her again, stabbing forward towards the flaming heads flying around, attempting to burst them away in a flash of steam! Town “Hmmm... well, there's a magic university in the Elgaia Federation... my mom teaches there, actually!” Moniker said, thinking things over. “Aurelia I heard is trying to make one of their own...” -Nohr- Carriage Liam paused as the fire burst up around them now, gripping his sword and focusing as one of the men came at him. He slashed, leaving a trail of blood as one man toppled. Liam gripped his sword and looked around, spotting a few people coming near Rue. “Rue!” he said, racing towards her now. House “A good leader must be aware of the sacrifices that those under them make. But they must also not make their sacrifices in vain,” Zadkiel said, looking towards Garnet, “We should get going...” Train “Mom said she did...” Blake said, thinking now. “Maybe because of Elysia? They are twins... And Kyran is always very... happy...” Kyran was a bundle of sunshine, even with her creepy shadow powers. -Galdwin- Castle “We are all on the same boat,” Gallic said, “We may disagree on which direction to go, but none of us want to sink the craft.” Maybe crash the boat and try and build a new one. Nohr Didymus listened as Garnet spoke, and to say he did not sympathize would be untrue, but he again was unsure if someone like her would really want to hear his own take on the matter. Zadkiel spoke before he did, so he remained quiet, up until he suggested that they get moving. "Can you be sure that we've lost our pursuers?" he asked, trying to glance out a window. "If so, then yes, we should...it may be best if we could buy some manner of transport or transit." Galdwin [Capitol] "All in the same craft, that none wish to sink?" Richard II asked. "Perhap-" His father shot him another look, and he was quiet. "As we all know, the Black March, if indeed it arrives soon, is reason to...announce alliances." he simply stated. |
