[Back Alley]

The moment the supporting wall exploded, things began to happen very quickly. Alita took cover behind the corner where she was observing, avoiding incoming debris (which had very little chance of actually harming her, but she wanted to be safe just in case). Just as she did, she received a ping from Jagan and again clicked behind her ear.

"Alita, report!"

Those were the only two words she needed to give her assessment of the situation.

"The bank wall has been destroyed a moment ago, and the base supports are beginning to crack from the building load. The attacker is a single man who was able to punch a hole in the wall using some explosive, the one I have previously labeled a civilian. I am now quite aware that he is NOT a civilian, since he is still quite capably defending against multiple meta-human vigilantes."

Jagan's voice was clipped. "Damage report?"

"Wall is damaged, two base structural beams are damaged beyond repair, and three more cracked. The building is starting to list, but it will hold for now. Am I to retreat and observe further?"

"Negative. Engage and limit casualties and collateral damage. Make sure the identified enemy does not do any more damage to the base structure supports. Keep him occupied. I will proceed to extract civilians from the building."

Alita blinked in surprise. "... Seriously? I'm to engage?"

Jagan's voice came back with an even more pronounced clip. "That's affirmative. Do not waste time, Alita. We have limited time to mitigate damage."

Alita clicked once more behind her ear, took a deep breath and let it out, and stepped from behind the corner focusing entirely on the man currently fighting off the heroes. Then, without any warning whatsoever, she went from standing to moving at almost 60 miles an hour, well beyond normal human capability as she pushed against the air around her, dashing forward like a bolt of purple, the cloak once more gone to maximize on her maneuverability and minimize drag.

As she ran in, she pushed off with one leg with even more force as she got within striking range, slipping right past the Turtle Titan and Spider-woman and lashing out with a kick that had enough force behind it to shatter concrete, all that force backed up with the momentum of such crazy acceleration and movement speed.

It wasn't an openly telegraphed move, but it wasn't obvious either...

-------------------------------------

[Bank Front]

Jagan turned his attention from the communicator into which he was snapping orders, and turned his attention back to the bank. Finally, he stepped away from that black van he was leaning against, and stepped up beside the man who was so angry at him before and who tried to get rid of him, the man named Stacey.

"Due to the relocation of the fighting within the building, right now is the best logical time to commence with extraction of civilians from inside of the building. I will proceed to do so, and would appreciate some cover fire if the fighting gets closer to the entrance of the bank again."

With those words, he dashed right for the entrance of the bank, moving quickly through the front doors and into the structure...

“Hard to believe that was eighty years ago.”

"I'd like to say it was a different time, but honestly I'm not so sure...I guess you'd know more..." Didymus said. "I still think a few parallels can be drawn...though very major differences existed too..."

He was unsure what to make of Cap saying he had learned not to rely on his gun, when he then proceeded to USE his gun.

So, maybe I DON'T need to empty a full clip into them to bring them down after all...

Didymus raised his rifle as the robot approached.

"Lady Garnet, move!" he called, firing at it to cover her escape.

He planned to be right behind her. He wasn't sure where Cap would play into all that, but he was at the rear of the formation, and that's where the robot was coming from...

[...]

Topaz smirked.

"Was it? Well, I know someone who's either squeeing like a fangirl or ranting about how human beings are being supplanted..." she said, grinning, then her face fell. "...if he's still alive. But speaking of still alive, we have to get you to the diplomats and the doc and try to coordinate defense and evac for those of us who still are. The two of us can take you back there, unless you have a better idea, ma'am?" she asked.

San Francisco: Raven's apartment

Victor raised an eyebrow.

"Is that truly what you think? There is but one cure, if anything, for your condition. Still, I shall remain alongside you, for now..."

He had to keep a close watch on Raven, now. He could report in via cellphone when there was a lull in things...

"I won't let you," Rumi answered the Doctor simply enough, to his statement about bringing her right back to her hotel.

...Even though she was pretty sure from even just the maybe half-an-hour since she's met him, that he could likely very easily be able to do just that.

San Francisco: Kaiju Corp

"Yep! Definitely! Yeah..." Marco replied to Nanami, sounding almost roboticly happy, before trailing off with a sigh.

Not that he also wasn't worried about that beret girl. Sure he was worried about Nanami's response to him getting use of that mansion by implying a 'personal date' with Nanami... But since that wasn't his actual purpose... it might be dangerous for Rumi to learn that he lied.

Though considering Nanami's reaction, and considering that beret girl... They probably already knew.

"But first! I was working on stuff before you guys got here!" his eyes lit up, as he quickly made his way back over to the workbench where he had fell asleep at earlier.

Marco then picked up a few dark colored objects, one being spherical, while the other being a cube. He then took Nanami's hands, placing both objects into her hands.

"Using some new materials the company was able to get a hold of, and some of the stats I measured about both of your abilities, I was able to come up with these!" he beamed.

"These things shouldn't get picked up as being a "weapon" by any screening technology you're probably going to find on this planet, at least as far as I know. But they're made to work with your powers. Though since yours, Nanami, are elemental, they work more interestingly for you-"

"Naturally..." Avril quickly interrupted, feigning disinterest now.

"But anywaysssssss" Marco continued, ignoring Avril's antics, "Nanami! With your powers, you should be able to control water or fire, and put it inside these things. Then you can try to use them like a stealth grenade that you can set off whenever you felt like it! Or whatever you wanted to do with them. They're pretty durable, and can hide your ice or fire inside, so... yeah! As for Avril... I guess the best use for them is as a blunt object to smack someone in the face with. Though if you need to hide something to get it past a security checkpoint or something, you could hide it inside one of the cube ones, probably..."

New York City: Bank

The blonde woman out in front of the bank with the scanning glasses continued scanning everything she could, until the sound of an explosion caused panic out in front of the bank. The woman was unfazed, however, but noticed that the figure with the very unusual (and strangely very high) energy signature seemed to be trying to sneak away himself, off towards where the explosion had come from. She had wanted to keep a low profile here, but she didn't want things escalated by this strange fellow... or just in case that person's 'power' was unstable, that they wouldn't just explode and destroy the city.

As such, the woman also sneaked by the mass of people, stealthily making her way up to the tall blonde man, and grabbing him on the shoulder.

"Where are you going?"

She kept her other hand on her Paralyzer-gun, which she was ready to use at a moment's notice, in case this turned into a hostile situation.

[New York City: Bank]

As Alita rushed into the building at speeds that were nearly impossible for an ordinary person to keep up with and aimed an extremely powerful and deadly kick straight at him; Slade seemed like he was about to be pulverized by her powerful heel.

Then he dodged out of the way at the last possible second, allowing Alita’s kick to instead hit one of the small stands near what was once the bank link. Deposit slips, pens and broken wood flew in every direction.

“You’ve got skills.” Slade stated matter of factly as he turned his head to glance at Alita. “They’re not nearly enough, but certainly better than I expected. You’re not on my list, either… so who are you?”

[…]

Outside, the blond man suddenly felt an arm grab his shoulder. He whipped around about to state something when his eyes fell on the most beautiful blonde woman he had ever seen. His eyes widened, and he had the expression of a child on Christmas morning.

Posted Image

“You’re beautiful!” He moved forward so that the amount of space between them was so small that it barely registered. “I’ll go anywhere you want me to go, lady!”

[London: Diplomatic Building]

The Doctor raised an eyebrow. “Monsters, armies – even the Mad Titan have tried to stop me from doing things. They’ve all failed.”

He paused for a moment and the permanent scowl on his face softened for a moment. “Oh, I rather like this one.”

Then he turned away from Rumi and rushed over to the window, cranking it open despite the loud protest from the nearest soldier. He stuck his face outside and sniffed at the wind.

“What’s he doing?” One of the diplomats asked.
“In my experience it’s impossible to tell if he’s being mad or brilliant. I just hope for the latter.” Kate shook her head.

“Right then!” The Doctor closed the window. “I’ve got a plan!”

[…]

As the robot approached, a heavy shield suddenly sliced into the side of its neck with enough tremendous force to knock it off. The machine fell to the ground, sparking and broken – as the shield bounced off, hit a wall, and then bounced into Cap’s outstretched hand.

“We need to move!” He called out.

Once the three had descended into the darkened passageway, Cap grabbed a small glow stick from his belt and snapped it. It seemed to provide ten times as much light as a normal glow stick would, and he handed it to Garnet.

“We need to get a little further in… and we have to keep them off us, but still following us.”

[…]

“I wish I did.” Martha shook her head. She pulled a very old model cell phone from her pocket. It was the type popular more than a decade ago. She dialed a number, and despite the jamming signal still in place, her call went through with no problem.

“… I would have called sooner but I was trying to keep from being killed by robots.” Martha explained to whoever she was talking to. “Sir, things are bad down here. No idea on the losses, but we don’t have the firepower to take down these robots. With all due respect, where the hell is STRIKE?”

The elite SHIELD team, STRIKE, had been in charge of security – but they had been mysteriously absent since the fighting started.

“Right. Hold on.” Martha placed the phone to her shoulder. “Fury says there’s growing pressure for the Helicarrier to launch a direct assault. We need to get the diplomats to an evac point and then get our people to safety – this place is going to be rubble.”

[San Francisco: Raven’s Apartment]

“I think that if this magic shop has any validity to it at all, then the cult is probably watching the place. Either to try to recruit customers – or because they’re afraid they could eventually become a problem.” Raven stated simply. “If we can get a lead, maybe we can find where they’re operating.”

[San Francisco: Kaiju Corp]

Nanami stared down at the sphere and the cube as Marco shoved them into her hands, but as he explained what they were and what they could theoretically do, she actually looked… impressed.

“That’s amazing.” Nanami stated sincerely. “… If they work.”

Her crimson eyes flickered away from the objects and towards Marco’s face once more. “Have you tested them? Even if you have, it wasn’t with my actual powers, so we can’t be sure they’ll work right.”

Nanami was, as always, the perfectionist. She hated the idea of testing any plan or gadget in the field. Mistakes could get people killed – but her face softened a bit.

“Still, good work.”

When Cap took out the robot he was shooting at, Didymus felt a combination of relief and frustration/anixiety. On one hand, the robot was down, Cap was helping keep them safe.

On the other, it added to the idea that with his arrival, Didymus had ceased to contribute meaningfully to this battle.

If I've gotta be upstaged, can it at least not be in front of a pretty girl? he thought to himself, chuckling softly at the amusing concept.

"Should we really let her carry the glowstick? In the dark that's like giving anything that sees like we do-which these robots admittedly may not-a highlighted target to shoot at. If anything..."

He sighed. He hated what he was about to say, yet loved it, but there were so many issues behind it to address...

"...I'm the expendable one here. I should carry it."

Just a no-good, ordinary human as God made me. Totally expendable in the modern world... he thought, not without some bitter irony in his head. Still, the other two members of the group were the person they were trying to protect and a man who symbolized much in the ways of hope and old-fashioned goodness. Depressing as it was, if one of the three here had to be hit, Didymus thought, it should be him.

[...]

Topaz looked around.

"Got it, but...where IS an evac point?" she asked. "And we may not have all the diplomats in that room...to say nothing of all the other agents." she added. "Should we go to the rooftop?"

San Francisco-Raven's apartment

"Perhaps." Victor said. "Perhaps I may be able to meet some...cohorts...of mine as well, in the area."

If this was a legit shop, then chances were likey SAINT was at least monitoring it-they did their best to be vigilant against such things...

The blonde woman did not even flinch when the strange tall man quickly approached her, just leaning backwards as he leaned towards her, with expression not changing at all. At least this didn't seem to be turning into a hostile situation...

...yet.

"No."

With her free hand (as her dominant hand was still poised for a quick draw of her Paralyzer in case that was needed), she pushed on the blonde man's chest to push him back.

"Where were you going?" she then asked again.

[Bank Battleground]

the man's movements revealed his skill, and Alita knew immediately that being purely stronger and faster wasn't going to get her any further through this fight. Skill often overshadowed pure physical ability, unless the physical ability was so overwhelming that skill didn't matter anymore. And Alita definitely wasn't overwhelming her opponent by that large a margin at all.

So it came down to skill. Alita lowered her speed to more manageable and maneuverable levels, and closed with her opponent, trying to engage him in a melee fight of martial art.

"I'm just the clean-up girl. Your friendly neighborhood janitor in spandex!"

Of course, she couldn't resist a quip back as she closed in, lashing out with one of her hands in a melee strike, palm open and fingers curled so the base of her palm provided the striking surface, aiming for her opponent's center of mass with that blow. Her other hand was kept close to her body, circling low as she readied for a counterattack, her stance sure and footing steady.

However, the stance and motions were not any of the standard martial arts at all...

-------------------------------------------------

[Bank Front]

While Alita engaged the dangerous target, Jagan went in through the front, and headed for the area behind the counters where the hostages were still huddled away from the fighting. Having previously opened the door to this area, Jagan already had the access key and everything he needed to get past security without even breaking a sweat.

He was moving as quickly as he could without drawing attention to himself. Silencing a few of the panicking civilians, he quickly outlined a plan of action to the more collected of the group, before starting a small migration as he subtly guided them back towards the front of the bank and away from the sight range of the battle that was currently destroying parts of the bank.

He, however, took position close to the entrance of the bank behind one of the support pillars, and pulled both of his pistols out, getting line of sight on the fight and making sure to keep all combatants within sight at all times. He was covering the escaping civilians.

Hopefully, everything would go according to plan...

-Diplomatic Building-

“Huh, cool phone,” Edda said as Martha called someone up, then glanced towards Topaz.

“Remind me if we get a chance to get Cap's autograph, just in case Didymus hasn't yet,” Edda said, then turned to Martha, “Alright, how do we get them out of there? Is there an entrance into some sewers or something?”

New York City

-Streets-

“Relax,” Aboy said, “We're not in either's chain of command, so we're not breaking any rules.”

She smiled at Phazon now, pausing as she looked confused.

“Something... is weird...” Aboy said, looking around.

Very faintly in the distant, Phazon might hear something explode...

-Bank-

“This person again...” Tony sighed, as Alita appeared and started to attack Slade, the armored figure landing for now. “Alright, everyone, out, before this place comes down!”

He pointed towards the exit, “I'll cover you!”

Spider-Man suddenly leaped into the fight, relying on his spider senses and skill, shooting several webs at Slade!

San Francisco

-Condemned Building-

“Magic shop? No, it's an antiques shop. Vases, rugs, stuff like that. Nothing very cool, usually,” Ben said, shaking his head, “Jade's uncle is just a wizard. Well, Uncle is... Her actual uncle is like an archaeologist.”

“She has an odd family,” Billy supplied.

"Weird...?" Phazon questioned, not sure of what Aboy was talking about, at least until the faint sound of an explosion rang out through the air.

He then focused in on where he thought he heard the explosion come from, before looking over to Aboy.

"We're checking that out, right?"

"A real magic shop wouldn't be so simple to find," Arcueid pointed out, matter-of-factly "Nor easy to watch over. Usually if people they don't want are watching, they'll just kill them, or move away."

“I’ll go anywhere you want me to!” Vash replied in a dreamy voice as he stared at the blonde. Then he recalled what he was actually doing and his face fell. His eyes drooped and he sighed, rubbing the back of his neck with a gloved hand.

“Actually, I need to go and deal with this bank situation. It’s a lot worse than it looks and somebody could get hurt!”

[…]

As Alita struck with her open palm, Slade smirked and moved with speed that contradicted his apparent age. He spun around and allowed the strike to pass by him by a fraction of an inch – and then he ducked down and aimed a kick at her feet.

Slade could move. He was stronger, faster and more agile than someone of his age should be.

Then suddenly webbing flew at him and Slade found that his arms were pinned to his sides. He was surprised – and suddenly very intrigued by the Spiderman. His eye widened and he suddenly jumped back, using his feet to push off a pillar and slam him into Spiderman from the side!

[London: Diplomatic Building]

“I don’t believe in expendable soldiers.” Steve replied in a firm voice. “Anyway, there’s a reason I want her carrying the glowstick. It’s not just a light source. SHIELD whipped it up.”

Cap suddenly spun around and aimed a kick at Garnet – who gasped; but to her amazement his foot was stopped in mid-air as it reached about a foot in front of her.

“It’s a miniature kinetic shield. It can stop bullets – not many, mind you, so if shooting starts you need to get down and behind real cover – but it might mean the difference between life and death.”

[…]

“There is,” Martha replied, but then she shook her head. “It’s not an ideal way out, but if we can get everyone to the ground floor of the main building there’s an underground escape tunnel.”

She sighed. “The biggest problem is our agents out there fighting. It’s going to be hard to get the word to them in the middle of combat, but we can’t just leave them out there. We need to restore communications or a lot of good people are going to die.”

[San Francisco: Condemned Apartment]

“Whatever the case, we don’t really have any other leads.” Raven pointed out. “Unless one of you has contacts in the police department. There’s been a lot of missing persons cases that are probably related to the cult, but I don’t think the police will be quick to just tell a bunch of random people off the street.”

“I don’t believe in expendable soldiers.”

Didymus felt a bit of inspiration or at least respect returning to him when Cap said those words, but he was almost as shocked as Garnet when he threw the kick at her!

"...are...are you alright, milady?" he asked.

But he nodded to Cap, despite thinking that that demonstration was a tad unnecessary-it had driven its point in rather well, though...

"Alright, I see, sir. So, where to now? Is there evac waiting for the lady when we're out of this tunnel? Either way, we should move, right?"

San Francisco-Condemned apartment

"I may be able to get some information on some of those missing persons..." Victor said.

"...but if my associates are around as I suspect, then I may be able to start that process while looking at this lead..."

“Hopefully they’ll be waiting.” Cap replied with a slight bitterness in his voice. He tried not to show it, but Steve wasn’t a big fan of SHIELD. He worked for them, he helped them in every way he could because it was his duty and the best way he could protect the world…

… but a lot of what had happened since he was unfrozen did not sit well with the soldier. He simply shook his head. “Come on, we need to keep moving.”

[San Francisco: Condemned Apartment]

“Then you should try.” Raven stated, although she wasn’t sure. The idea of letting someone help was still unsettling with her – dragging in his associates could be even stranger.

[Bank]

The last of the civilians made their way out of the bank with Jagan covering their backs and watching the fight intently through the numerous holes made in the building. Once the last of the civilians was in the hands of the law enforcement, he once again tapped that little gadget on his belt and vanished from sight, weaving between rubble, pillars and tables as he made his way closer to the fight...

As he moved, Alita was certainly not still. Slade's counter-kick to her leg just allowed her to shift her momentum as she moved the leg along with his kick, aiding her in disengaging from the direct fight and barely avoiding Spider-Man's webbing, which promptly landed true on the man she was fighting. As his attention shifted and he attacked Spider-Man, Alite followed him, keeping up with his agile movements and matching motions with him before twisting around and raising a leg, dropping it like an executioner's axe as she aimed right for Slade's middle as the man kicked the spider-dressed vigilante.

"Alright, we're in. Just...any ideas on how to do it?" she asked.

Didymus didn't like how uncertain Cap sounded when he commented on evac...but he realized that a lot of uncertainties are inheirant in situations like these.

-Streets-

“Of course we are!” Aboy nodded, grinning, “What kind of peace keeping agents would we be if we didn't?”

Aboy headed down the street at a fast pace, moving against the ground, subtly using her telekinesis to move people out of her and Phazon's way.

-Bank-

Spider-Man felt the kick coming, but Deathstroke was very good, and he wasn't quite quick enough to avoid the kick, being slammed into and flying backwards, hitting a far wall.

“Owww... that hurt...” Spider-Man muttered, “This guy is fast...”

“Not fast enough!” Iron Man yelled, shooting a repulsor blast at Slade as well!

London

-Diplomatic Building-

“So we need to get everyone to the ground floor and out through the sewers... Easiest way is to get communications back up so we can coordinate,” Edda said, thinking it over, “I'm not much of a tech guy, just passable. What do we need to do to get it back up?”

San Francisco

-Condemned Apartment-

“We know someone who might have an in with the police...” Ben said, thinking of Captain Black, “But I wouldn't be sure. Seems like Victor here does though, so that's good!”

He grinned, nodding his head, “The shop isn't too far from here.”

-Uncle's Rare Finds-

Uncle paused, looking up from inspecting a new artifact he had gotten in.

“...Uncle has the willies...” he said, shivering.
