[New York: Bank]

As Michelangelo’s grappling hook came flying, it slammed right into the side of Whiplash’s head. He gave a loud grunt and his head cocked to one side; it was obvious that he was unconscious. Yet, despite that he remained on his feet!

His body went limp, but the armor around his arms and legs was active and keeping him on his feet. The blades were still whirling around the room, being propelled by the armor and trying to slice at everyone in the bank!

“Ooookay, that’s pretty freaky.” Spider-Woman frowned. How was such a thing even possible? It made her wonder if Whiplash was truly the mastermind behind the bank robbery or just another cog in someone’s machine.

[…]

“Just what the hell is going on in there?” Yamaki muttered under his breath. He had moved over to the side of the cordoned off area and was checking one of the feed’s from the bank’s security cameras. SHIELD had access to it, and he was no watching as things went down inside.

“Doesn’t make sense…” Yamaki’s voice trailed off. “There’s something else going on, there has to be… but what?”

[…]

Across the street from the bank, on one of the rooftops, a figure was sitting on the edge of the roof and watching the scene.

“I have to hand it to him, he knows how to organize one hell of a field test.”

[London: Diplomatic Building]

After retrieving his shield from the broken robot’s body, Captain America turned and jumped up onto the small ledge of the roof beside Didymus and Garnet. He clipped the shield to his back and nodded towards them.

“I hope everyone’s uninjured? We need to secure the grounds. Fury’s pretty adamant that we drive back this attack.” He explained. “How are you on ammo?”

[San Francisco: Abandoned Apartment]

"If they are indeed operating less carefully, then something akin to Africa may be about to unfold. But one question is how YOU tie into it..."

“… I’m not sure exactly.” Raven said, shaking her head. She supposed there was no point in hiding what little she did know. These people had helped her… and she could tell that they all had some connection to something strange.

She didn’t feel anything from Ben, but she had seen him transform and that was definitely far from ‘normal’. There was an unmistakable, magical aura around Billy. It was unlike any magic she was familiar with, but Raven could tell it was quite powerful.

Victor had some kind of aura as well, though it wasn’t magical. Raven had felt a similar aura from some of the monks she had once lived with – though this was slightly different. And Arcueid… she definitely had some kind of power about her. Raven had felt something very similar in the past, but she couldn’t quiet remember where.

“My mother was part of the Cult.” Raven explained. “She was a teenage runaway. The Cult took her in, got her addicted to various drugs and eventually used her in some… ceremony. When it was all said and done she was pregnant. I’m the result. Whoever my father is, he’s probably not human… it explains all of my peculiarities.”

She shook her head. “She and I were taken in by the Monks of Azarath. A reclusive order that’s been around for a while. They trained me to focus my powers and use them, and they kept me safe… until they were slaughtered by the Cult.”

And now Captain America himself was standing before Didymus.

"U-um, yes, Captain sir!" he said, saluting. "We're uninjured. I...have two mags of AP rounds left, counting the one I've got in now." he said.

"Agent Didymus (last name), sir! This...is Garnet Alexandros, the Alexandrian princess! We need to get her to safety, sir!"

Fanboyish urges were trying to well up, but they were still in a combat situation.

He did feel disappointed that with the chisiled Rodgers here, he couldn't necessairly have as much of Garnet's eye, or even most of it, but he batted those thoughts away. Besides, even if that kind of effect was in play now...at least it was the Captain.

San Francisco: abandoned apartment

Victor suddenly understood. So THAT was why she felt so...dark. Her father was not human. This...made things much more...complicated.

"I cannot say I know precisely how to deal with this..." he said.

He did know plenty of times such things had occurred before, or were suspected to have occurred before.

Few, if any of the results he remembered studying, or even seeing, were good things.

"...but what do YOU make, then, of your suspected heritage? Not what you think it is, but your RESPONSE to what you think it is..." he asked.

-Bank Back Alley-

Cole frowned as well, his energy pulsing around him, reading out towards the crowd and into the bank.

“I might want to get in on this...” Cole frowned. He looked towards the building nearby and jumped, grabbing on a ledge and pulling himself up, starting to scale the wall with surprising speed.

-Bank-

“...This is gonna hurt...” Iron Man muttered. His boosters activated, shooting at Whiplash.

“Tony, what are you doing?!” Pepper yelled over the intercom.

Tony threw a hand forward, energy shooting from his hand, trying to make an energy shield around Whiplash, trying to keep him and the blades contained!

London

-Diplomatic Building-

“This way...” Edda said. He paused for a moment, taking out the clip of his gun and placing in another, then held out a third clip to Topaz.

“Armor piercing rounds,” Edda said, “Might be useful.”

San Francisco

-Condemned Building-

Ben frowned a little, thinking. His grandmother was suppose to be an alien... though right now he thought that might be something to keep quiet about for the moment.

“Well, even if you're half demon... you're still half human,” Billy said, thinking it over, nodding towards Victor, “What he says make sense... What do you think of it?”

Topaz shook her head.

"I'm good on ammo, thanks." she said.

She raised her SMG in the direction they were moving.

"So...who plays big guns and who moves? This is different from my dynamic." she grinned.

"Hmmm..." Marco tapped his chin as Nanami explained the situation, and what was coming after this obelisk.

"Wanna set a trap for whatever's coming after this?" he quickly responded once Nanami finished.

Though that idea was simple for Marco to come up with, just HOW to set up a trap actually was much more difficult. How do you tell the world of whoever wants this obelisk that you have it, without actually telling the rest of the world you have it?

"Not exactly sure how to do that, though..."

San Francisco: Condemned Apartments

For the most part, Arcueid remained silent, listening to what was going on. Some of it sounded familiar to her, though in the recent century, she had been almost entirely focused on eliminating Roa whenever he regenerated, during the periods she was awake, so these other things never really were 'known' by herself.

It did remind her of some stuff she had learned about long long ago, however, by a different name...

London: Diplomatic Building

"So then just what do I do if I find one of those robots?" Rumi asked of the Doctor, as she followed him out of the TARDIS. "And what do I do if I don't?"

It certainly did look pretty bad at the diplomatic building... but this also was a bit thrilling, actually coming here. And with just how the Doctor was acting she had a feeling that he wasn't here simply to watch these things attack this place...

New York City: SHIELD Field Office

"I hope it doesn't get to that point; even with the jets we've got now, it'd still take a while to get across the ocean. So if it came to us, something happened to everyone who was closer..." Phazon responded.

Phazon was not as into labwork as Aboy, but still also preferred to stay more away from combat. Too many memories from when his power was out of control...

[New York: Bank]

The energy shield that appeared around Whiplash was containing the blades, but they were flailing around wildly as if caught in a tornado. They were slashing and slamming against the barrier, slowly weakening it.

Whiplash himself cried out in terrible pain. It was hard to tell if he was conscious or not, but he was clearly not in control of his actions. His body was twitching wildly.

[San Francisco: Kaiju Corp Offices]

For a brief moment, the faintest trace of a smile was present on Nanami’s face. It quickly faded away as she shook her head.

“That’s not a bad idea at all… but that means someone is going to have to pose as a seller. Even attempting it would be dangerous. Not just from the people killing for this technology, either – we put out the word that we have this thing and we’ll be in SHIELD’s crosshairs.”

She raised an eyebrow. “Are you actually up for that, Marco?”

[San Francisco: Condemned Building]

“What do I make of it?” Raven thought about what Victor and Billy asked. She slowly shook her head.

“I don’t know. I’m not evil, but I am dangerous. Some days I have a hard time controlling my abilities – although the mantras the monks taught me help. I’ve been able to focus my abilities most of the time…”

She trailed off. “… but what worries me most is why I exist. I don’t understand why the cult wanted me to exist… but it scares me. Whatever they have planned for me it terrifies me.”

Her voice became very low. “Truth be told, sometimes I wonder if I wouldn’t be better off if I didn’t exist… but my powers keep me safe whenever anyone has tried to kill me, and even if someone did find a way to do so, that would just mean the cult would look for someone else… put someone else through this kind of pain and suffering…”

[London: Diplomatic Building]

Cap nodded, but there was a small hint of uneasy on his face. “Alright. Conserve your ammo as much as possible; I’m afraid I don’t have any extra for you.”

Although he carried a gun, it was only a sidearm and he had no armor-piercing rounds for it. Rogers rarely relied on it unless he had to – his main weapon was the shield currently strapped to his wrist. It might have seemed like an odd offense – but those who had seen him with it understood.

“Let’s try to get inside quick. We need to lock down the diplomats before we can start getting rid of these things.”

[…]

"So then just what do I do if I find one of those robots?"

The Doctor initially ignored Rumi’s question. His wily eyes were whipping in every direction as he searched the grounds, enormous eyebrows narrowed. Then at length he turned to her to respond.

“That depends. For now just stay close to me.” He looked as if he had more to explain, but at that moment the nearest wall burst open. A SHIELD agent in full uniform was thrown right through the masonry and slammed into the ground.

One of the robots followed him out.

The Doctor immediately grabbed a small, pointed device from his pocket. It almost resembled a magic wand. He raised it at the robot and for a moment there was a glow of green from the tip and a strange sound.

The robot turned and started walking towards them.

“… Now that’s unusual,” The Doctor muttered as he slapped the screwdriver in his hand as if he were beating on the side of a television that refused to play properly. “Rumi! Change of plans; Run!”

He turned and grabbed her wrist as he took off in the opposite direction of the robot.

Victor listened to Raven, but spoke.

"...yes, there is THAT...or perhaps your existance is, as far as they are concerned, an accident-or one of many things. Demons and such may enjoy unholy union with human women just for the sin of it, and there are theories that they've done things like that before to attempt to enact...very large plans. With very drastic consequences, though they were stopped..." he said.

"But is that all?" he asked. "...because you may well be divided by two natures-two natures in fundamental conflict with each other. Every man must choose to reject evil, but you-you may have to make the choice more literally than most. I have heard of similar cases to yours before-though perhaps not precisely the same."

He was wary around this girl, suspecting what she was, but there may be options for her...

"...is that all you have to say of your descent?"

London-diplomatic building

"Yes sir!" Didymus said. "Is there any chance of an evac point? The point we were told to secure the representatives in may not be very secure against freaking war robots..." he added.

Captain America himself. Didymus was going to be telling this story for a while.

"That's the one issue I have with this idea," Marco himself didn't sound very happy about his idea, "If it was just me, I could do that any day of the week. I don't mind. But again... this place is way bigger than just me. If SHIELD starts sanctioning the company, it's more than just me who has problems. It's everyone who may lose a job because of it-"

"I'll do it," Avril jumped in, without any hesitation.

"And I don't think... Wait, what?" Marco was still talking, before realizing what Avril had said.

"I'll do it," the blonde girl reiterated, "I don't have a company full of people to worry about, nor do I have the same 'hero' profile Nanami has back in Japan. I didn't come here all the way from Japan with Nanami, here, just to be eye candy for you!"

At Avril's commentary, Marco sighed, "That... Isn't-"

"Well of course not, nya-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!" Avril quickly interrupted Marco yet again, laughing with her hand over her mouth, while looking over to Nanami like a sneaky cat.

"...well are you sure you want to be bait, essentially?" Marco countered, deciding to go the Nanami route this time with Avril, and simply ignore some of her antics.

"Yeah, I'm okay with it," Avril stopped her playful laughing, sounding more serious now, "That's why I offered! Kidding aside, I DO want to help, and this seems like a way I can."

London: Diplomatic Building

Rumi did as she was told, following along behind the Doctor, as he explored a little bit, though she jumped back a little, when the agent went flying through a wall near them.

However, when the Doctor pointed his screwdriver at the robot that followed, causing that robot to start to chase after them, she didn't seem as happy.

"Don't just use your magic pen to sic them all on us!"

“What more can I say?” Raven shrugged her shoulders beneath her cape, which had now curled around her body. She often felt most comfortable with the cap hiding her like a warm shadow, blocking her away from the world.

“I can’t change what happened so there’s no use dwelling on my past. I can’t be killed, and I can’t stay hidden from them forever, so there’s no use in running or trying to find someone to destroy me to stop their plans.” Raven’s voice was morose, and it was clear she had given all of these options a lot of thought.

“… all I can do is attempt to stop them.”

[San Francisco: Kaiju Corp Offices]

Nanami narrowed her eyes at Avril. There was a very quiet, but apparent rage behind her crimson irises. The idea of putting Avril right in the thick of danger was very unappealing, but Nanami knew her better than anyone else in the world – and Avril would never let Nanami talk her out of this.

“Fine.” Nanami agreed quietly, seeing no other option. “But we’re going to do this carefully. First sign of trouble and we call this whole thing off, agreed?”

[London: Diplomatic Building]

“War robots,” Captain America repeated, shaking his head a bit. 2025 was a very different world than 1945, as he was reminded on a daily basis. Some of the changes he found to be wonderful and welcome – and then there were the war robots, and he was left shaking his head.

“I doubt it. With the firepower these robots have, there’s no way we can safely evacuate. Maybe underground, but STRIKE reports that the underground passages are blocked off.”

He turned his head to them. “I think all we can do is fight back, hold the ground and win the day. Odds aren’t in our favor, but I’ve seen men in worse spots come out on top.”

[…]

“I didn’t sic them on us!” The Doctor grumbled as he ran, leading Rumi down a winding hallway. They were now running into the building. The Doctor waved his sonic above his head and a security gate came crashing down behind them, blocking off the hallway – but he did not stop running, knowing they could get through that gate with ease.

“We need to find the diplomats, get them to safety. I shudder to think what the pudding-brains at SHIELD will do if they’re all killed.” The Doctor scowled.

Chloe gave a yelp as the Doombot exploded, sending both she and Musashi to the floor with a loud thump. When the dust cleared the girl looked around, rubbing her eyes and coughing. When she finally caught her breath she cursed loudly. "Okay, what the HELL was that about?!" she exclaimed.

“Sometimes this job really sucks.”

Chloe pulled herself up, dusting off her pants. "You can say that again miho....You okay?"

[New York: Streets]

Most women wouldn't just blindly follow a strange man to his apartment but Kanna was fairly confident she could take him in a fight. Even right now she had a knife AND a gun on her....So she could murder him....Or just seduce him and take all of his stuff.

Kanna followed Rica, eyes on the back of his head as she walked behind him. "So what does a SHEILD agent like you do anyways? I mean it has to be pretty well paying to live on this side of town"

[San Francisco: Condemned Building]

“Truth be told, sometimes I wonder if I wouldn’t be better off if I didn’t exist… but my powers keep me safe whenever anyone has tried to kill me, and even if someone did find a way to do so, that would just mean the cult would look for someone else… put someone else through this kind of pain and suffering…”

Jade was quiet, listening to Raven explain her fears....It seemed to be a terrible way to live, not knowing WHY you were put here but knowing it surely was for no good. Thanks to her Uncles' adventures she knew a lot of demons personally...Though none she actually felt sorry for like Raven...l

"There's probably a way or two for you to be killed..." Arcueid commented, looking a bit skeptically at Raven.

She did have some personal experience with someone who seemed to have the ability to 'kill' things that one ordinarily would never think was able to be 'killed', including herself.

"I don't think I'd recommend it, though," she casually added, "If it's just the part of you that isn't your 'other side' that dies, then you aren't around to control that side anymore."

San Francisco: Kaiju Corp Offices

Both Marco and Avril noticed Nanami's staring, though Avril quickly spoke before Marco could say anything himself, rushing up to Marco and putting her finger in front of his mouth.

"Just as long as this 'first sign of trouble' isn't your staring me down for wanting to do this, then sure," Avril then stuck her tongue out at Nanami, before laughing.

She knew this was dangerous, but she also felt like she was in the best shape to even handle this. If touching the obelisk turned you to stone, Avril could simply just hold it with her telekinetic powers. It also could give her an advantage of surprise, in case of anything going wrong, in order to get back out of a situation.

"Seriously, I've got it," she finally added, sounding much more serious once again.

London: Diplomatic Building

This guy was sharper than he sounded.

That was Rumi's take from the Doctor's orders, him picking up quickly about SHIELD being here along with the diplomats, and the issues at hand.

"If they were able to move after the attack started, they've probably all tried to get to the center of this building, but even if not, where do we take them to get by the big robots?" Rumi then asked, as she continued running along.

It was a pretty safe bet that going back the same way they came was not going to be an option, considering both the security gate and the robots chasing them already.

Well, at least without a confrontation.

-Diplomatic Building-

Edda paused, thinking over Topaz's questions.

“I'll run, you can gun. We'll take shifts. I go, you cover. Then you come and I'll cover,” Edda said, “How's that sound?”

New York City

-S.H.I.E.L.D. Field Office-

Aboy gave a small laugh, shaking her head, “I meant in general, things happening, not stuff happening right this moment. Can't predict the future after all.”

She smiled at Phazon, looking around her lab and checking some figures on her computer, nodding slightly to herself before turning back to Phazon.

“Do you wanna head out for a bite to eat? We don't need to be cooped up here now, and your glasses have gotten a clean bill of health,” Aboy suggested.

-Bank-

Iron Man struggled, landing on the ground and focusing, trying to contain the blades. Spider-Man looked around, trying to think. If those blades got out, a lot of people could get hurt. But...

“Everyone, into the vault!” Spider-Man yelled suddenly, swinging towards the people, “It's reenforced, it should keep you safe! Hurry, before Iron Man can't contain this creep!”

San Francisco

-Condemned Building-

“...Why don't we just go against those Blood guys then? Stop being defensive, go on the offensive?” Ben suggested, thinking it over, already including everyone here with that. “I have some experience dealing with groups chasing after me...”

“I’ve been better.” Musashi grunted as he rubbed his aching shoulder. He knew that they were in way over their heads – especially him. He looked down at the pistol in his hand, and frowning, slipped it back on his belt. It wasn’t going to be very helpful anyway.

“Let’s try to get back to the Diplomatic Room.” Musashi suggested.

[…]

"If they were able to move after the attack started, they've probably all tried to get to the center of this building, but even if not, where do we take them to get by the big robots?"

The Doctor scoffed at the question as he spun around, taking a sharp turn and going down one of the hallways. There was a small video screen on the wall next to a number pad, and he approached it and aimed the screwdriver in his hand, letting it buzz loudly.

“The same way you and I got in. Plenty of rooms in the TARDIS, and far worse things have tried to get in with no luck.” He said quickly, with his usual cantankerous scowl. The screen suddenly lit up and the Doctor stared at it.

“… Well at least that’s one reliable person in SHIELD.” The Doctor muttered as he read something from the screen. “Alright! We just need to keep on down this hall, almost there.”

[San Francisco: Condemned Apartments]

“...Why don't we just go against those Blood guys then? Stop being defensive, go on the offensive?”

Raven raised a skeptical eyebrow over at Ben. The way he said it, it sounded like the most obvious solution in the world. She could only sigh quietly.

“I could never go after them. I’m what they want. It’s the double-edged sword. I can’t keep running forever, but if I try to go after them, then I’m giving them exactly what they want.”

She sighed once more. “Besides, if you want to actually stop them, killing their acolytes won’t be enough. Their leader would have to be destroyed – and he’s very good at keeping in the shadows. Besides…”

Raven’s eyes flickered towards Arcueid. “… He’s a vampire.”

[San Francisco: Kaiju Corp]

Nanami did not like this idea, but she didn’t see another choice. Reluctantly, she nodded her consent towards the plan and then pushed emotion aside and returned to her usual business-like tone.

“We’ll need to put the word out that you have an Obelisk and want to sell it. I have enough backroom contacts to get the word on the street, but we’ll need a location. You’ll have to pose as some wealthy collector.”

She looked at Marco. “We’ll need someplace for her to stay. Preferably somewhere secluded and away from the public. We’ll also need some kind of security to make it seem like we’re trying to prevent an attack. It has to be good enough to be believable, but not so good it actually stops them.”

[New York: Streets]

Rica shrugged his shoulders slightly at the question.

“I’m not exactly the ideal federal employee, but that doesn’t mean I’m stupid enough to go blabbing classified information to a woman on the streets – even an exceptionally pretty one.” Rica spoke in his usual amused sounding drawl.

Soon they were standing outside a very expensive apartment building and he turned back to Kanna. “What matters is that I get paid very well for what I do.”

"You know someone in SHIELD?"

Rumi probably shouldn't be all that surprised about that, though it was quite convenient that whoever it was the Doctor knew, they were here. Though with these robots crashing the party here, probably any help would be appreciated, even if they didn't know this guy.

The question still remained how they all would make it back to the TARDIS thing, but maybe this guy also had a remote control system in his fancy magical electric wand thing he kept using to get info out of all of these computer systems.

San Francisco: Condemned Apartments

"...so it is a vampire," Arcueid responded to Raven's final statement about the leader of this 'Cult of Blood', sounding much more serious than she had at any time previously.

...even compared to when she was angry with and complaining to Victor Belmont. That all was petty. This was confirmation of her suspicions that drew her to even coming here.

San Francisco: Kaiju Corp

“We’ll need to put the word out that you have an Obelisk and want to sell it. I have enough backroom contacts to get the word on the street, but we’ll need a location. You’ll have to pose as some wealthy collector.”

"Now that is something I can live with trying for a bit!" Avril answered with a laugh.

Meanwhile, Marco was lost in thought, until Nanami directed statements at him.

"...Yeah, I could probably call in a favor and get access to a mansion for that. Or an island, which would be safer for the public, but..." Marco looked over at the Obelisk again. Nanami stated earlier that it wouldn't be good to hang around a lot of water, considering where the Terragenesis events had happened.

"...it'll just be 'fun' the next time I meet that beret girl..."

New York City - SHIELD Field Office

"Sure, food sounds great," Phazon answered, returning a smile of his own.

"...though wait, you were scanning my glasses?" he then backed up, looking a bit uncomfortably at the computer, room, and Aboy herself.

"J-just what can't you scan with that stuff...?"

London: Diplomatic building

Didymus considered the situation. Most of the SHIELD agents were probably dead. The best, most tactically sound thing to do seemed to be evacuate the diplomats and call in reinforcements. But that was appearently out of the question.

He was about to bring up how they were outnumbered, most probably low on ammo, and had sensitive targets-this was a tactical nightmare.

But we have the Cap.

The thought at first comforted him, then he let it tumble about in his head a bit.

We have the Cap. He's probably expected to turn this around single-handedly. ...as if the rest of us have just been dying to let him know how high the stakes are. If THIS was even expected, why not have him here all along?! What-

He noted, with some disappointment, that his excitement to be working alongside Captain America had dwindled with this line of thought, as it seemed that his earlier suppositions about the situation had in some part proven true.

Still, it WAS the Cap. And despite the thoughts turning in his head, he knew that this was the most tactically sound way to go, barring the evacuation.

"...I also have a 9mm, but no AP rounds for it. So...what's the plan, then, sir? The other diplomats are holed up somewhere beneath us, but even so we have to consider the lady here..." he said.

[...]

Topaz nodded.

"Alright." she said. "This'll be interesting. Let's move." She clutched her SMG and prepared to exit/breach/clear the hallway outside the meeting room.

Abandoned apartment building

Victor seemed unphased by the news that the Cult's leader was a vampire.

"Yes, that has been one theory we've suspected...how do you know this, though?" he asked.

"And as for you not being killed, I would have to agree that a few ways exist..."

He eyed Arcueid as she seemed to look more earnest, not liking this development.

"What more is there to say, you ask?" he addressed Raven again. "...perhaps it is your heritage they want. Perhaps they seek to drive you into embracing it. It would not be the first time I'd heard of such a thing-a demon struggling to make someone its vessel, finally overcoming them when they embrace its power in them or any of a number of other...triggers..." he said.

"But you may have seen, today, this demon that stares you down...blinked." he added.
