Earth.
Fire.
Air.
Water.

In the past, the four elements have been in disharmony many times. Wars between nations and conflicts between spirits have endangered the balance many times. Only the Avatar, Master of all four elements, can protect the fragile balance. The world changed when the previous Avatar unleashed the Harmonic Convergence, allowing non-benders to become benders, and for the first time allowing normal benders to bend more than one element.

Now the world hangs in a new, dire situation. The Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom have both lain claim to new benders, each demanding that those who bend their element must be their citizens – and the world once more stands on the brink of disaster. With the world needing her more than ever, many have begun to wonder where the New Avatar is…

[Republic City]

The sun was high over the massive expanse of Republic City. The enormous cit was a hub of technology, industry and culture that had in many ways become the capitol of the world. Automobiles sped down the streets as crowds assembled on every corner.

A massive steel bridge stretched across the mighty bay, near the Island of the Avatar, and on one of the posts at the top of the great bridge was a mysterious man, sitting cross-legged and looked out over the city.

“… It will not be long now. I wonder, Avatar… when will you appear?”

[…]

Elsewhere in the city, in a small, grassy park people gathered and went about their daily business. Couples walked arm-in-arm, children played in the sun and people’s lives went on the same as any other day.

What none could have foreseen was the chance encounter about to happen in that sun-bathed park… a meeting that would change the city, and the entire world, forever…

[Small Park]

Sitting with his back to a tree was a young man wearing goggles and the traditional robes of the Air Nomads. Unlike most Air Nomads, his head was full of wavy brownish-red hair. A leather strap hanging from his shoulder supported a small pouch that sloshed when he moved.

He held his hands out in front of him, absently playing with a small marble where he was making blow around in a circle between his palms.

[City Streets]

“You think the Chief is going to fire us?”
“Probably you. I’ll be okay.”
“How do you figure THAT? You’re way worse at this job than me!”
“Yeah but people like me. I’m cute and get along so well with everyone.”
“… Are you sure you’re describing you and not person who is your exact opposite?”
“Shut up.”

Two Metalbender Cops walked down the street, side by side. They wore the usual uniforms that identified them as the city’s protectors, and each had brown hair. The shorter figure was a woman with long hair down to her waist, while the taller figure was male and his hair jetting off in strange directions.

Neither seemed too keen on doing their duty, instead bickering as they walked down the road.

Republic City

Private Estate

A tan-skinned girl lied in the grass, face up and staring at the clouds. It was a perfect day, the sky was blue and the sun was shining pleasantly above her. She would have been perfectly content just lying here for at least another hour-if not for the sudden bolder being hurled at her face!

"THINK FAST MADAME AVATAR!"

"G-Gah!"

The girl instantly threw her hands up with a yelp, a mighty gust of wind blasting the rock high into the air and over one of the many tall walls that protected their estate. She then bolted up, glaring at her eldest brother who had a rather amused grin on his face. "T-That's not funny Kalyan! W-What if I was meditating?" The girl, Sarai, stuttered. She was still trying to catch her breath from the sudden attack.

"That looked more like daydreaming to me, anyways shouldn't you always be on your toes?" Kalyan asked, coming over and patting his youngest sibling on her head. "Oh, and you should have used earthbending. It was a rock after all"

"Y-You gave me no time to think" Sarai frowned, dusting off her skirt.

"In a real fight you wouldn't have time to think" he retorted, still grinning.

"SNEAK ATTACK"

Sarai turned on her heel, flicking her wrist and blasting a large flame at the barrage of water coming at her face. The second the water touched the flames it created a cloud of steam and a loud hiss. On the other side of the attack was another brother holding a large bucket of water and a sheepish grin of his own.

"J-Jace! G-Guys, this is enough...." Sarai pleaded. "I came out here to get away from all of this...."

"MY TURN"

Sarai just groaned, stomping her foot and sending a wall of rocks between she and another of her brother's, Issac.

From his spot under a tree Sarai's final brother Ahan watched. This was all horribly dull to him.....

While Sarai knew she should appreciate these spontaneous training sessions she didn't understand the point. She wasn't permitted leave the estate without one of her brothers or father, nor was there ever a need to fulfill any sort of Avatar duty....Typically people just solved their own problems, and anything that escalated was handed off to the police. There was no need for her to ever actually fight....

Not to mention no one in the city even knew she was the Avatar. Her father was sure of that.

"Alright guys enough fun, time for lunch" Kaylan decided, motioning for his siblings to follow. "We'll pick up on our sneak attacks after food"

Sarai followed for a moment, but hesitated. She decided to rush back into the courtyard for a few more minutes....If her father got angry she could say she needed to finish meditating or something.

Satomobile

A sleek black Satomobile chugged down the road, guarded on all sides with thick metal walls. Inside it housed a woman and her two children, three of the most important people in the Earth Kingdom....

"Republic City is a lot bigger than I remember it" a pretty teenage girl named Melanie whispered to her brother. She was careful not to break her mother's concentration but at the same time could barely contain her excitement. She grabbed her brother's arm and leaned over him to get a better look outside the window.

The young man, Jason, gave a nod and a smile. He was responsible for the girl sitting next to him, and took his job as an older brother very seriously. "It's been awhile since you've been here last, the city's expanded a lot since you were a little kid"

"Does that mean they'll take us on a tour or something?"

Their mother suddenly broke her silence, making both teens jump a bit "We're here on business. Not as tourists. We'll be meeting with the President and then heading back to Ba Sing Se before any of the grime of this city can get on us...."

Melanie slumped in her seat but didn't say a word. She knew it wasn't smart to talk back to her mother...Especially when her mother was the Earth Queen.

Republic City

-Small Park-

Two young men walked through the park, apparently having a one sided conversation.

“I think this would be a good place to stay for a bit... maybe set up a base of operations.”

“No, I like traveling around. Besides, you're the Air Bender. I thought they were nomads.”

“Well yah, I know you weren't originally an Air Bender.”

“Okay... I'll think about it.”

Edda and Paul continued walking down the park, conversing still, Paul's hands moving after Edda talked.

-Republic City Capitol Building-

Spork sat at his desk, doing some last minute paper work. Sitting across from him was his two sons, Jimi and Hammah.

“The Earth Queen, Narroh, will be visiting us soon,” he said, looking up now, “She's bringing her children, her son Jason, and her daughter Melanie. I'll need you two to be on your best behavior. These talks could be critical for us.”

“Don't worry Dad, we will,” Jimi said, nodding. There was a clucking noise from the direction of Hammah.

Spork sighed, looking towards Hammah, who looked sheepish.

“Thaddius wanted to come...” Hammah explained, as the chicken look out from under Hammah's seat.

“Just... make sure he stays out of the way...” Spork sighed, shaking his head.

-Harbor-

A car waited by the harbor, a man with slicked black hair and green eyes waiting outside, with several security agents around him. It wasn't a Satomobile, but close, one that his own company made.

Don Gallic was waiting for a certain boat to come... A boat containing someone he had never gotten to see, but now could...

His daughter.

[Satomobile]

Behind the steering wheel of the Satomobile, one of the Dai Li drove in silence. Like all of the Earth Queen’s elite protectors, he wore a dark green robe and pointed hat… and black glasses that covered his eyes completely.

Naturally, Rica said nothing. He would not interrupt the Earth Queen. He was just here to protect her.

[Small Park]

Connor blinked as he heard a voice nearby. He wasn’t looking up and so he didn’t see the speaker, but what he caught of the ‘conversation’ was… odd. Like someone was talking to himself, but only supplying half the dialogue.

The young Air Nomad looked up – and that’s when he spotted not one, but two men. He was initially confused, but likely wouldn’t have said anything – except for what he spotted next.

“H-Hey! Watch out!” Connor called out towards them.

A Frisbee was spiraling through the air right towards them. Connor jumped up and quickly shot a small bout of air that knocked the Frisbee away, and nearby a sheepish young man muttered an apology at Edda and Paul as he ran to retrieve his Frisbee.

“S-Sorry, I just noticed that and…” Connor trailed off, rubbing his neck awkwardly.

[Harbor]

“… So this is Republic City…”

Aboard the deck of a large ship, a woman wearing the traditional garb of the Water Tribe leaned on the railing. She was unusually pale for someone from the Water Tribe, and as she flexed her left hand anxiously, small flames danced around her wrist.

Nanami was one of the most talented Water Benders from her home – they called her a genius… but now her home and her people were left far behind, and she was in a strange new land… here to meet a man she had only ever heard stories about.

As the ship pulled into the harbor, she saw a man waiting with several guards. That had to be him, Nanami knew. She pulled up the wooly hood of her parka and slowly walked over to the side of the ship.

The water bubbled up and formed a platform as she walked across onto the dock and didn’t say a word as she saw her father for the first time.

Satomobile

While Melanie was a bit depressed that her mother shot down her idea of a tour so quickly she still held onto a bit of hope. Usually her mother's meetings lasted quite awhile, giving her a bit of time to wander...As long as she stayed close she wouldn't get into too much trouble.

"We're here."

Melanie blinked, looking over to her mother before reaching over her brother and looking out the window once more. While the president's estate wasn't as big as her mother's palace it seemed so much more impressive surrounded by the tall buildings of the city. The girl was quickly ushered out and immediately straightened her dress.

Jason stayed quiet looking around and keeping Melanie's hand in his. "So why are we here anyways?"

"I just have a simple request for the president" Kanna answered with a shrug. "Come along"

Private Estate

Sarai wanted a few moments to herself so she decided to hide away, climbing a tree and perching herself on a high branch. She could see over her family's walls, all the way into Rebublic city. She usually went out a couple of times a week with her brothers, but she had never gone farther than the edge of town. She knew there was a lot more to the world than just one city, but at least here she was safe...

That's what kept her from airbending herself over the wall and running away from her overprotective family--she trusted them. They said she was safer hidden and she really was. They also said people didn't need an Avatar anymore, which seemed pretty accurate as well.

The girl found herself staring absently out at a park that neighbored her home. Maybe she would ask Kaylan if he'd take her later....

Streets

A teenage girl sat in an alleyway, back against a wall and focusing intently on wrapping a long piece of bandage around her arm. By this point in her life she should have been a pro at the action but it was always so difficult to wrap properly when she had to use her left hand.

The girl looked obviously worse for wear, several cuts and bruises on her tanned skin and a large cut on her shoulder. She KNEW she should have ignored those guy who egged her on....But she had no self control. At all. Despite it all she was actually in pretty high spirits, she had held her own and even managed to steal one of the guy's wallets while in the fray. He had quite a bit of money which meant she was going to live large tonight!

But first Chloe needed to wrap everything up lest she bleed all over the place and cause a scene.

The Frisbee was knocked back by a gust of air, Edda and Paul stopping as they saw Connor.

“Hey, thanks!” Edda said, “No need to apologize, not like you were the one who threw the Frisbee.”

Paul nodded as well, staying silent as per usual.

“So you're an Air bender, huh? Cool, so's my friend here,” Edda said, patting Paul's shoulder.

-Harbor-

Gallic stared at Nanami for a moment, then gave a small smile towards the young woman, stepping forward.

“You have your mother's eyes,” Gallic said, “It's good to meet you Nanami. I regret we've never gotten to meet before.”

The Water Tribe leaders... outside of Nanami's mother herself, of course, weren't keen on a Fire Bender being around and having sway over their Chief in any fashion.

“Are you hungry? We could stop to get something to eat before we head to my company,” Gallic offered, opening the door to his car for Nanami.

He wanted to try and get to know his daughter better before he could see how much he could try and trust her in the family business.

-Capitol Building-

As the Satomobile came to a stop, there were several officers arrayed outside, mostly making sure that the civilians didn't crowd around.

Ethan slipped out of the passenger seat, there as well of course, scanning the crowd before he opened the door for Kanna and her children.

At the top of the steps were Spork, flanked by some aides, along with his two sons.

He paused for a moment, then walked down the stairs, giving Kanna a smile and held out his hand.

“Greetings Queen Narroh. I am President Spork. Please, come inside, we can discuss in my office. Feel free to bring your aides as well,” Spork said, knowing full well that the two men with her were more then likely Dai Li agents, and not so much aides.

-Capitol Building-

"Good afternoon mister president." Kanna greeted simply, following the man and motioning for her children and 'aides' to do the same. "I apologize for our late arrival, the trip from Ba Sing Se took a bit longer than expected."

Melanie followed her mother, but preferred to stay closer to Jason as they walked. The girl clutched his hand tightly, all the while stealing a glance at Hammah and Jimi. She didn't have many friends so seeing anyone even close to her age was exciting.

"Paaaaaaaaaaaaaappppppppppaaaaaa!"

Melanie blinked as a younger girl rushed into the hall from a connecting room, practically skidding into the president. The girl was as well dressed as the others, and had a mop of wavy red hair that fell around her shoulders. In her hands she held a small animal -what looked like a turtle-duck.

When the girl realized her father was with guests she stiffened and went quiet. And when she realized that one of those guests was the Earth Queen she bowed her head quickly.

"S-Sorry! I didn't know they were already here"

Kanna couldn't help but to raise a brow. "Certainly a family man aren't you?"

“It was no problem, I'm simply glad you arrived safely,” Spork said as they entered the building, walking along the halls.

Then Colette appeared, Spork smiling at his daughter despite her interruption.

“It's fine dear. But we'll be busy right now. Jimi, Hammah, why don't you take your sister and go out to the Presidential Gardens,” Spork said, then turned to Kanna, “Your children are welcome to accompany them, if you wish.”

Jimi seemed indifferent at meeting new people, but Hammah was always eager to make new friends.

Hammah did also steal a glance at the turtle-duck in Colette's hands. He did like animals himself, and the chicken that was shadowing them was testament to that, Thaddius seeming to behave himself and stay out of sight.

Spork then continued, “Between my three kids and being the President, my day tends to be pretty full, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. My office is this way, we can discuss there.”

“It's fine dear. But we'll be busy right now. Jimi, Hammah, why don't you take your sister and go out to the Presidential Gardens,” Spork said, then turned to Kanna, “Your children are welcome to accompany them, if you wish.”

Melanie looked to her mother, waiting for approval. A moment later Kanna gave a nod.

"Jason, watch her" she ordered. There were enough people in this world who wanted her AND her children dead. Even in the Capitol she didn't feel secure.

Jason nodded, leading Melanie away with the other teenagers. He couldn't help but to be a little annoyed....He was nineteen...He didn't need to be waved off to go play. But now was not the time to fight this...

When they got outside Colette presented the Turtle-Duck to Hammah with a frown. The creature was small, and looked a bit sickly. "It's mother won't come for him...I think he's too small...I didn't know what to do but I couldn't let him be all alone"

Melanie frowned, looking at the small creature. "My mom says those are the runts...." she noted with a frown. "They get rejected because the momma turtle-duck knows he won't make it"

Colette's frown deepened, obviously not familiar with the concept.

Hammah looked at the little turtle-duck in Colette's arms, then nodded to Melanie's words.

“Yes, he does look like the runt... but that doesn't mean we can't help him,” Hammah smiled, ruffling his sister's hair, “Come on, let's go to the garden... We can put him in the pond help take care of him, okay?”

Jimi looked towards Jason, recognizing the face of an older brother who didn't always like babysitting.

“...Name's Jimi,” Jimi said to Jason, “What's yours?”

Jimi had probably been given a paper on who they were, but he hadn't read it.

As the children left, Spork lead Kanna and the others to his office, where an aide held the door open, Spork walking in first. Another aide went to follow him, but he waved the aide off.

“I have my notes, I'm fine,” Spork said to the aide, heading inside now, where a small table with two chairs was set up, some refreshments there as well. “Queen Narroh, you are welcome to bring your own aides in, if you wish.”

Either Spork was very confident, suicidal, or way to trusting.

-Republic Capitol Building-

Kanna motioned for Ethan and Rica to follow her in, the woman taking a seat at one of the provided chairs and pouring herself a drink. "I suppose I should just skip the small-talk and get to why i've come this far from a home visit the President of the United Republic of Nations....Republic city is thriving, no doubt due to your leadership, and people from all over the world are coming here to make their new home. While I appreciate the traditions and history of Ba Sing Se our population is nowhere near as diverse as your city's, which means I am mostly surrounded by Earthbenders and the occasional Firebender thanks to the former colonies."

Kanna paused for a moment and took a sip of her drink, eyes on the man in front of her.

"I need something from you Mister President. Airbenders."

[...]

“...Name's Jimi, what's yours?”

"Jason" Jason answered simply, sizing up the obviously shorter boy. He knew from Kanna's briefing (which is what he called dinners with the woman where she just made he and Melanie sit and listen to her) that he was about the same age as him... "Any idea what our parents are talking about in there?"

Meanwhile Collete rushed back over to the small pond in the garden, setting down the duck. The small creature continued to swim around Colette, but made no move to rejoin it's family.

"Hammah is wonderful with animals" Colette explained "He's nursed a bunch of ones around here back to health and even has his own pet chicken"

Melanie blinked, looking a bit confused "Like a rhino-chicken?"

"Or a Salamander-Chicken?" Jason added.

Colette shook her head "Nope, just a chicken."

Jason raised a brow "Weird. Can you at least eat it?"

Spork frowned a little, holding his hands into his lap as he looked at Kanna.

He knew he needed to be diplomatic, but the Queen's request was... an odd one.

“Queen Narroh, I am an elected official. I do not have the power to simply order my citizens. On the contrary, the way our system of government works, they are my bosses. I must act in my best interest to them,” Spork said, “I can not... and I will not... make my citizens leave if it's not their choice.”

He leaned back in his chair, then continued, “But that doesn't necessarily mean you can't try and entice Air Benders to your nation if you so wish. Economic benefits, promises of high rank and positions, etc. I understand Gallic Enterprises and Sato Company are both interested in trying to expand into the Earth Kingdom... They would undoubtedly help attract some Air Benders who wish to find jobs and aren't part of the Nomads.”

Hammah blushed a little at the praise his sister gave, “I guess I am good with animals... And yah... Thaddius is just a chicken.”

“Cluck.”

Jason would feel something on top of his head, Thaddius having followed them, and now made himself comfortable on the tall teenager's head.

He started to preen himself idly, Jimi laughing softly now as Hammah looked apologetic.

“Ummm... sorry, Thaddius there can be... assertive,” Hammah said.

[Streets]

As Chloe sat and wrapped her wounds, the blood trail on the ground leading to the alleyway caught the attention of a pair of young cops. They spotted the blood and their conversation died immediately as they stole into the alley, turned the corner, and spotted Chloe.

“Oi! Are you hurt?” Sama called out as he stepped forward.

Kimi, as always, was more skeptical. She raised an eyebrow. “… Why are you back here?”

[Harbor]

Nanami felt odd. The man standing before her was a stranger. She had never seen him before, only ever having seen photos. She knew he was her father – but seeing him now did not do anything for her. He was still as much a stranger as the men who guarded him.

“… It’s good to meet you too.” Nanami said in the most polite voice she could muster. “I’m fine. We had food on the ship.”

This was awkward.

[The Park]

Connor rubbed his neck, relieved to see these two were kind. There were a lot of quick tempered people in Republic City.

“I am.” Connor said, nodding. “It’s nice to meet you. I don’t get to meet many other Airbenders around here… big cities like this don’t attract many Nomads.”

He paused, as he looked over at the two, and then rubbed his neck. “My name is Connor.”

[Capitol Building]

Rica stood at the side of the room, as silent as he had been on the drive over. He did not move, and he did not even look over towards where his Queen and the President spoke. The unusual man simply stood stoic… with a smirk playing on the edge of his lips.

Sending virtual hugs... sent!
Republic City

[Streets]

A young man with straight black hair wandered through the streets Avoiding Bering around people, Because he accidentally knocked over a few market stands when he was "practicing" his air bending.

Slightly panting as he ducked beside a crate in an alley, he didn't even notice that the alley was already "taken"

"...why are you here?" Emmett heard the stern voice of a cop, and immediately froze. Once he realized that there were people on the other side of the boxes, he peaked over and saw Sama helping a girl bind her arm.

Noticing the hesitation in the girl towards the question...

"Would you believe me if I said: we were playing an adult version of Hide-and-seek?" He said leaning against the boxes.

"Are you alright? He asked the girl he'd never seen before trying to make it appear like they were friends of some sort.

[park]

The sun bright and the breeze is peaceful in the park as Tall, wavy black haired man stood under a near by tree over looking at the benders and non-benders alike have fun together...

[Republic City]

-Streets-

Chloe was almost done bandaging her arm when a voice broke her concentration. The girl imediately looked up, pushing her new wallet under her pile of belongings. Instantly she noticed the two people regarding her were Republic City police and Chloe paled a bit.

"“Oi! Are you hurt?”

“… Why are you back here?”

Chloe gave a sheepish grin, shaking her head and standing up. "O-Oh no i'm fine! Just got into a little scuffle, nothing worth worrying about!"

"Would you believe me if I said: we were playing an adult version of Hide-and-seek?"

Chloe turned to see another man and instantly she went on the defensive. She didn't recognize him, and wondered if it was a friend of the guy whom she stole the wallet from....

"Are you alright?"

Chloe blinked, giving another slow nod. "I'm fine, really it looks worse than it feels" she brushed her hand over her shoulder to prove a point, but winced.

-Republic Capitol Building-

Kanna frowned deeply. She didn't understand the purpose of having a president, considering they couldn't even force their subjects to do anything....That was definitely a perk of being a queen.

"Alright then. I require a bit of guidance...Surely you have a census of your subjects-I mean-citizens who are benders. I want to know how many there are in Republic City and how I may be able to find them. I'll do my part to convince them to come to Ba Sing Se. "

And by convince I mean force

[...]

Jason blinked as the strange chicken-thing landed on his head.

From her spot Melanie's eyes lit up. "Jason! Lean down please!"

The young man groaned, leaning to a knee so that Melanie could see Thaddius properly. She stroked the feathered creature carefully with her hand, smiling the whole time.

"Hello little darling. Don't worry, Jason won't eat you, he was just kidding" Melanie cooed

"No I wasn't" Jason pipped in.

"Oh hush!"

"If I knew how to NOT get people pregnant, you wouldn't exist." - Rica
