As Vash collapsed and the spirit tendril burst into ghostly flame, Hiko completely ignored it for the well-being of the broom-haired man. Checking quickly to make sure he didn't cause any permanent damage, Hiko let out a sigh of relief as he found that Vash's spirit was perfectly stable, though still recovering from the possession.

"... Honestly, I expected a bit more of a bang. This was relatively anticlimactic. Which, in this case, isn't a bad thing..."

He kneeled next to Vash, looming over him with those perpetually-closed eyes.

"Are you awake?"

Vash groaned, but did not respond to Hiko. He was shuddering and his body felt like jello. His muscles ached all over. He could recall several times when he spent hours dodging bullets and bombs from the friendly bounty hunters on Gunsmoke and he had been less sore afterwards. Worst of all was his headache, which felt like someone had stabbed him in the brain.

“Ugggh… oh maaaaaaaaaan…” Vash whimpered as he suddenly sat up. He shook his head, and looked around at the group. “I… didn’t hurt anyone, did I?”

Saber stepped forward. “You did not, though you tried to. Some sorcery had you snared.”

Vash frowned. He picked up his fallen revolver and slid it under his jacket.

“… What was that?” Vash asked.

“Whatever it is, I do not believe it is truly dead. We must stay on our guard.” Saber warned the group.

Hiko chuckled, shaking his head negatively at Saber's summary of what the event was.

"No, it was no sorcery. Had it been a sorcery, we would have had a much more difficult time with the event and cause. No, it was no sorcery, nor was it even magecraft. It was possession, pure and simple."

He stood up, stretching widely and rotating his right shoulder a few times.

"Eeeee-eh, and here I was hoping that the spirits of Gaia wouldn't be so angry in this world. I might be wrong, but it seems like some angry spirit has made its home deeper in the catacombs, a spirit that can extend its reach all the way here. You are right good king; whatever the spirit is, it is not dead. My attempt to seal it must have made it pretty angry..."

He shrugged carelessly, bringing up the hand that created the seal, his fingers still smoking, letting tendrils of golden mist into the air.

"How long has it been since I have attempted a sealing, I wonder..."

-The Maze-

Aboy paused, staring at Rikku for a moment as she deciphered the question.

“Because it is my name?” she finally ventured, “I admit it is an odd name, but it is mine nonetheless.”

Aboy shrugged, “You have this Spork. He is clearly not an eating utensil. Perhaps it is just a strangeness of the multiverse.”

HA's shot hit one of the gatlings, and the weapon flashed...revealing a health bar above it as well!

“Looks like we have to aim for the guns first!” Hammah shouted, running along as well to avoid the fire, Jimi shooting at the guns as well.

In front of HA there would be a small noise, and a strange monitor would come up in front of him!

-Forest Clearing-

“I don't know what a Dead Apostle is, but I am DRAGON!” Drago roared as Arcuied came at him.

“You're pretty stupid, eh!”

Drago spun, Ben/Shocksquatch getting behind him, bashing his face with an electrical punch, leaving him wide open when Arcuied slashed him!

“Augh!” Drago yelled, “Damnit...”

-The Cavern-

Tony was quiet. He had seen a lot of strange and unusual things. The Makulan Rings were said to be magic, though Tony still believed they were actually ancient tech of some sort.

Even Doom had powers that seemed otherworldly, though even claimed it was super science. No magic...Everything was suppose to be logical, if you analyzed it long enough.

Even this, all he had seen. There had to be some kind of explanation. After all, Tony had fought The Controller on two different occasions, and he used technology to control people.

There had to be. Tony simply couldn't exist that there was magic.

“Whatever it was, it's a problem...And we have no way of knowing it's reach. Maybe it can get to us even past these caverns,” Tony said, speaking up now, “We need to find it, and take whatever or whoever is behind that down.”

-City Outskirts-

Jack shivered, seeing the ghost get rid of the useless character with ease...And he wasn't far from being useless himself!

“Okay...so what do we do now?” Jack wondered, “Let's see...I have some Wu on me...they might work...”

He pulled out the Reversing Mirror, clutching it tightly.

Saber nodded. “We must find and destroy whatever is responsible. We are in terrible danger until we do so.”

She walked over to Vash, who was still leaning against the wall on the ground. She looked him over, and then bent down to gaze into his eyes.

“Can you manage yourself, Gunman?” Saber asked.

Slowly, Vash nodded his head. “… Yeah, I think so…”

[City Outskirts]

Blackfire shook her head.

“… I have a better idea, Jack. Try not to freak out. I’ll try to keep you alive.” Blackfire said, and she clutched Jack by the scruff of his jacket and tossed him out towards the group of Bakemon.

It was Hurley Gloves, Mk 2.

As soon as the Bakemon noticed Jack, they started rushing towards him… and with their attention totally on Jack, Blackfire flew up and started hurtling bright pink balls of light towards the Bakemon, creating rather large explosions.

The Bakemon seemed to break apart into “data”, disappearing as they were hit.

Amazingly, Blackfire didn’t shoot Jack!

“I fought someone who used mind control before,” Iron Man spoke up, “He used something called a 'control disk.' You could fight it, if you focused enough. If this thing is using tech similar to it, I might be able to shut it down if we get close enough...”

Of course, Tony was assuming his Extremis could break through it.

He's going to be disappointed.

-City Outskirts-

Jack gulped, clutching the Reversing Mirror tightly in his hands, looking back over to Blackfire. Well, she had kept her word...

“Warn me next time you do that!” Jack yelled, frowning as he picked himself and dusted himself off, looking around, “Let's see if we can't find like a computer store or something...”

Though the may not have looked very amused by Sama's antics, she wasn't exactly unhappy with them, either. For the most part, she just was indifferent.

"Sure," she nodded, before she started to walk off farther into the maze, hands in her jacket's pockets, and without waiting for Sama to start first.

=========

"But Sporky's an evil meanie! They're supposed to have crazy, menacing names!" Rikku instantly responded to Aboy's comment on Prof. Agoi's name.

Phazon blinked.

"...'menacing'?" he then questioned, causing Rikku to shoot him a mean look.

He couldn't really figure out what part of 'Agoi' or 'Spork' was supposed to be menacing. ...especially to Rikku, who seemed to have nicknamed the professor like he was a puppy, based on one of those names.

Forest Clearing

"Ehhhh?" Arcueid was surprised by Drago's statement about himself. So much so, she seemed to back off of her attempts to try and intimidate the guy into submission.

"Dragon?? I thought those are supposed to be on a whole other level..." she then commented, looking off to the side. Though he may have been pretty strong, he didn't really compare well with the type of dragons that Arcueid might have had experience or knowledge of.

“We don’t know what it’s using, but we know it is our enemy.” Saber said matter-of-factly. “I say we strike now before it has the chance to try this again.”

She turned and headed towards the corridor that led to the deeper level of the cavern, and slowly she started off into the darkness.

At the end of the tunnel, it let out into a larger room similar to the one they had fought the Death Claw in and similar to the one where they had been attacked by the smoke.

In the center of the room were several dozen glowing gold tickets; the kind used to claim an item at Marcus’ shop! In the center of the room, however, was an odd creature.

It floated just above the ground, with its arms crossed and giant, disembodied hands at its side.

So… you made it down here, did you?” The creature spoke in a booming voice.

[Abandoned City]

“Warn me next time you do that!”

“We’ll see.” Blackfire replied, shaking her head. She floated forward, looking around the ruins of the city. Some of the buildings had fallen, and some of them were leaning at a sharp angle. She looked around, rubbing her chin.

“Seems like this place is mostly abandoned… but… oooh, what have we here?”

She looked up and peered on into the distance. As a Tamaranian, she could see much further than a human could.

“… Interesting. Good news, Jack! There IS some kind of high-tech looking structure a few miles ahead. Let’s go!”

She grabbed Jack by the scruff of his neck – again – but this time she just lifted him up and started to fly off towards the distance.

After a short while, they came upon a large green device that sat unceremoniously in the middle of the street. There were four computer consoles attached to it at various points, screens blinking with green or blue lights.

“Well… how’s that for a computer?” Blackfire asked. “I wonder what it’s doing out here…”

[The Maze]

Sama paused, seeing Shiki disappear down into the maze ahead of him. He frowned, not wanting to be left alone. For some reason, Sama seemed to feel safer around crazy-strong girls who could probably kill him if he annoyed them.

… If he stopped to think about it, that realization would probably scare him and make him wonder why he seemed to want to subject himself to danger like this, but luckily Sama never stops to think about anything.

“Wait for me!” He called after Shiki as he ran after her.

At least Vash looked alright. The broom-haired man was clearly shaken by the experience of possession, but he still stood straight and on his own two feet. Hiko gave him props for that, while looking dubiously at the man in the iron suit. It seemed as if the man was trying to categorize what he saw into something he could understand, something he could correlate to and fight against. It was a good response, but far from the correct one, for if the man in iron ever ended up in a situation where he would not understand...

It might make things difficult.

Nonetheless, for now the swordsman decided to stay back and watch. The group he traveled with have accomplished an amazing chain of feats already, fighting against a possession, creatures that could slaughter any lesser man, and a strange creature that breathed exploding gas. The vulpine man didn't worry for the future at all: he was in a group of strong people after all.

Nodding in consent to Arthur's lead, he followed the king down the corridors and passageways until they came to the big room with the golden tickets. Immediately, Hiko's warning signals went off: this was either a trap and the creature in front of them was incredibly powerful... Or the tickets themselves were an illusion and not worth getting. In either case, what they faced was probably more than what it seemed, though it stated an obvious fact when they walked in. Hiko didn't waste any time letting the creature know that.

"Indeed we have. With the promise of riches and strange events, powerful battles and rewards, it would be a shame if we did not make it this far. Though I wonder whether it speaks of our competence... Or the incompetence of creatures within these caverns. Tell me, strange one, do you plan to bar our path as well?"

---------------------------------------------------------------------

[The Maze]

As the strange monitor popped up in front of Avatar, he was distracted by its appearance momentarily, just enough for the T-Rex t catch up to his movements with its raking fire of endless paintballs, splattering the area around him and catching him with two shots, lowering his counter to one out of three almost instantly. He responded with another shot as he tried to dodge again, but he was obviously having a hard time of it, limping on one foot and trying to ignore the fact that it didn't work right.

"Damn it, this isn't good..."

He again dove into a roll, barely avoiding another streak of plaintball fire...

The Priest of Rama floated about, looking at Hiko as he spoke. It simply scoffed.

“You’ve been lied to.” It said bluntly. “There is no reward for you. This cavern, Marcus… it is all meant to further the goals of My Master. The four will not aid my Master’s goal… so there shall be no reward for you.”

There was the sound of rock shifting behind them. The tunnel they had come from was now sealed. The massive hands of the Priest of Rama floated up, and started to shoot great fireballs towards the four of them!

-Maze-

Aboy paused as well at Rikku's assertion that Spork's name was menacing.

“Either way...I believe he is stronger then me as well, or at least better trained,” Aboy said, “Spork appears to be a Custard Master...I am not at that level yet, myself. So if we came to a fight, I do not think I would be able to beat him...”

Aboy had the same power potential as Spork, but Spork had more time to train himself, while Aboy had been more concerned with survival, in her own world.

The T. Rex roared at HA, it's gatlings flashing off and on as HA or Jimi managed to get a shot in.

Hammah frowned, looking at the monitor that had popped up...then made a dash for it, dodging a hail of paintballs and sliding, her foot smashing into the monitor.

It popped, disappearing, and Hammah stood up, a shield of fire glowing around her.

“Ohhh...cool...” Hammah said, paintballs hitting the fire shield, being ineffective.

It wouldn't last long though...

-The Cavern-

Tony frowned. Yet again he couldn't get data from whatever he was looking at. His computer was baffled, and Extremis wasn't giving him anything...

But then again, perhaps this tech was too advanced... After all, his Extremis hadn't worked against his grandson from the future. Anything sufficiently advanced...

Tony just wished he had his lab, and time to analyze everything he was coming across.

He checked his suit. It was in good condition. Not great, he wasn't too happy about going into a fight with an unknown enemy, but he'd been in worse situations before. Still, if this battle went wrong...he might lose his armor, and a big chunk of his capabilities...

Then the creature started it's attack, and Tony flew upwards to avoid the blast of fire.

“I don't know who your master is, but we're still taking you down!” Tony yelled, firing a repulsor blast at the Priest of Rama!

-Forest Clearing-

Drago scowled at Arcueid.

“I am on a whole other level!” Drago roared, then shot a blast of flames from his mouth at her!

-Abandoned City-

Jack frowned as Blackfire picked him and carried him, but didn't say anything as he didn't want to get hit.

When he was finally placed down, he looked at the computers.

“Hmmm...let's see...” Jack said, walking over to them, typing at one of them, trying to see what he could figure out...

"You wouldn't have to," Phazon responded to Aboy, without thinking much about it. "If he ended up in a fight against us, I would take the fight."

---------

Shiki looked back at Sama when he called out for her to wait for him, slowing her pace for the moment, until he got caught up.

"We should keep moving, so no one catches us from behind," she then said, once he was caught up and she returned to her normal walking pace.

Forest Clearing

"Really?!" Arcueid asked, still surprised, before taking his fireball head on. It pushed her back, but once it passed, she dashed towards Drago to hit him with her elbow, and set up a Dragon-Ball-Z style of combo of attacks, before smashing him back into the ground

"...I dunno... You're kinda boring, and don't seem that legendary to me..." she then added after landing, scratching the back of her head.

[The Cavern]

The Priest of Rama’s massive hands flew instinctively in front of its body, shielding it from the Repulsor Blast. The hands moved at incredible speeds, and they seemed unharmed entirely by the beam; they didn’t even flinch!

“I see. So that is the beast’s game.” Saber frowned. She looked over to Tony, Hiko and Vash. “We will have to attack it from behind! Come, Swordsman, we shall engage the hands. Iron Man, see if you can attack the body while the hands are preoccupied.”

On some level, Saber knew that her new companions had no real reason to obey her orders… but she would give them all the same. She could only hope that they would follow her plan.

Saber charged forward at the left hand. It curled into a fist, and extended the index finger, firing a beam from it! Saber swung her invisible sword, blocking the beam and deflecting it into the wall!

[Abandoned City]

As Jack typed on the screen, from above their heads a small beam of light extended out and washed over both of their bodies. Blackfire immediately took a defensive posture, but the beam did not harm them in any way. It seemed to be scanning them.

“Designate… Jack Spicer… Komiand’r… Status… Approved.” A mechanical voice spoke.

Suddenly, a metal crate fell from the sky and landed just a few feet away from them. A moment later, a second metal crate landed next to it.

One crate had Jack’s name emblazed across the top, while the other had Blackfire’s name.

“… Whatever you did, I think it helped us.” Blackfire said to the mad boy genius.

[Maze]

“Oh… yeah that’s a good point.” Sama said, rubbing the back of his neck as he followed Shiki through the twist and turns of the maze. “Do you think we’re getting close to the center?”

He was trying to make conversation, but he had a feeling that might be difficult.

[Thick Forest]

After being separated from the others following the battle for the first Gem, Digidestined Daisuke Motomiya and Hikari Yagami found themselves wandering through the thick, dark forest with their Digimon sitting on their shoulders.

“Man… this place is really giving me déjà vu. I keep expecting a Tyrannomon to come barreling out of those trees.” Davis said, looking around.

“Hmph. Please don’t Tyrannomons for a while.” Gatomon, Kari’s cat companion growled. She had been briefly transformed into a Tyrannomon by the power of the Gem.

Davis rubbed the back of his neck. “Oops… sorry.”

“Hey… what’s going on over there?” Kari asked, pointing forward.

There was an odd man standing in front of an odd tree, and his behavior could only be described as… strange.

He was walking around the tree and sniffing, and every now and then stopping to tap on the tree.

“Maybe he’s a dog trapped in a human’s body and he has to take a leak?” Davis suggested.

“Daisuke!” Kari groaned and scolded him. “Come on, we may as well go and see what’s really going on.”

The two teens and their digital monster companions cautiously approached the man, who seemed to either not notice them, or simply didn’t care that they were walking towards him.

By now the man was kneeling down in front of the tree and inspecting the roots with a very studious expression on his face. He pulled a pair of glasses out from his coat and slipped them on as he did so.

“Um… Hi.” Kari said, as they arrived within a few feet of him.

“Hello!” He replied in a friendly voice. “Be right with you.”

Davis was the impatient sort, and he sighed and crossed his arms and asked: “So… what’s so fascinating about a tree?”

“Daisuke!” Kari groaned again.

“Oh, this isn’t a tree.” The man replied as he stood back up and fished a small wand-like object out of his pocket. He pointed it at the tree, and it shone blue for a moment. “Definitely not a tree.”

“It looks like a tree.” Davis replied, and Kari just sighed and shook her head.

“Mmm. Yes, it does… but it’s not a tree. Artificial. Roots don’t actually extend under the dirt, they just sit on top of it… and it’s not made of wood.” He explained.

“It looks like wood.” Davis said, and Kari realized that at this point Davis was just amusing himself by being difficult.

“Yes, doesn’t it? Trust me, it’s not wood. It’s some kind of metal… something I’ve never seen before.” He turned around to the two and got a good look at them for the first time. That’s when he really stopped to pay attention to the Digimon on their shoulders.

Immediately, he walked over and looked at V-mon with one of his eyebrow raising.

“Hiya! I’m Veemon!” The little Digimon said. “I’m a Digimon!”

He stepped back. “A Digi…mon?”

“It’s short for Digital Monster.” Kari explained. “They’re from a computer world that’s connected to our world.”

“… Wait…No…” He pointed the wand-like device at Veemon. Veemon just sat and blinked at the glowing blue light in front of him.

“Hahah… A living creature made entirely of digital data. Fantastic!” He laughed, and clapped once. He looked towards Gatomon. “I take it you’re the same?”

“Yep.” Gatomon replied. “I’m Gatomon, and this is Kari and the boy is Davis.”

Suddenly Davis and Kari both flushed a little as they realized they had completely neglected to introduce themselves.

“Good to meet you. I’m the Doctor.”

“Doctor? Doctor who?”

Before The Doctor could say anything in response, the odd tree behind him suddenly gave a loud hiss. A piece of the tree fell away, revealing a doorway.

“… Huh. I guess it wasn’t a tree.” Davis blinked.

“Still, I'd want to help,” Aboy said towards Phazon, “But I didn't want you to be under any delusions of my own strength. I'm not really sure who you are from my world, as it is, so I can't really compare you to them...”

-Forest Clearing-

Drago was hit hard by the attack, stumbling backwards as Arcuied laid into him, on his hands and knees now, breathing heavily.

Rex whistled appreciatively at Arcuied's moves, nodding his head, “That was muy cool.”

“Urg...you're not going to beat me!” Drago roared, trying to get up but falling over.

Drago scowled, about to try and get up again when there was a loud thudding noise to the side, and a figure towered over Arcuied, Ben, and the others.

Shendu stood there, looking down at them with red glowing eyes, hissing slightly.

“Drago...You are beaten. You can not win against this one,” Shendu said, then turned to Arcuied.

“You...are not human. No, you have the scent of something...ancient. Something powerful,” Shendu said, looking down at the girl.

Ben shivered a little, back to normal. Whoever this new dragon guy was, he was giving Ben the major case of the willies.

“What are you? You are not a mortal, this much I am certain,” Shendu said to Arcuied.

-Cavern-

“Got it,” Iron Man said, flying upwards and boosting around, trying to go up and over the monster, firing his repulsor blasts, trying to get behind the creature.

-Abandoned City-

“Ohhh, a present!” Jack said, giddily running up to his crate, rubbing his hands together, then paused, “I hope it's not socks...My parents always buy me socks...”

Jack started to open his grate eagerly!

-Thick Forest-

“I think we might be lost...”

“Hmph...we're not lost. Omega, where are we?”

“Insufficient data, Comrade Shadow.”

Shadow scowled, shooting a glare towards Silver, who just gave a nervous smile and shrugged.

“I could try levitating above the trees...” Silver suggested.

“No...wait...” Shadow paused, holding up a hand, Silver and Omega coming to a stop.

“I hear voices...” Shadow said, then hurried off through the forest. Omega and Silver shared a glance, then followed after him...

[Cavern]

Tony’s repulsors blasted the creature and it fell forward, smashing into the ground. Saber rushed forward and quickly struck slashing her sword into the Priest of Rama.

It burst into flames and began to writhe on the ground, and then it burned away. It seemed that they had won.

“… Is that it? Is that all the devilry of this cavern? Have we finally prevailed?” Saber asked, looking around.

The cave began to shake. The roof began to collapse in, rocks falling! The cavern was collapsing in on itself!

[Abandoned City]

It was not socks inside the crate, but an extremely advanced looking machine. Some of the finest high-tech equipment in the multiverse, and now it was in the hands of Jack Spicer.

Oh dear.

[Thick Forest]

Beneath the mechanical tree, The Doctor, Davis, Kari, Veemon and Gatomon found a massive mechanical complex. There were narrow halls, dimly lit by a few lights every several feet.

“I don’t ever remember anything like this the last time.” Kari frowned as they moved down the hall.

“Oh? You’ve done this before?” The Doctor asked.

“Three times.” Davis sighed. “But this seems different.”

The Doctor was about to ask another question when they reached the end of the hall. They found themselves on a small platform overlooking a much larger room beneath them. They all gasped at the sight before them.

“What are those things?” Gatomon asked, gasping.

“… I have no idea… but something tells me they’re not friendly.” The Doctor frowned.

“What makes you say that?” Davis asked.

“Mostly all the guns.” The Doctor replied.

Beneath them were several dozen alien creatures, all of whom wore armor and had strange energy weapons. They appeared to be in a sort of stasis…

They were the Chitauri.
