Arcueid did not seem very pleased, her arms still crossed in front of her in contempt. She frowned, before opening her eyes wide, as Drago's watery attack came towards her.

The water that would have hit her directly seemed to freeze into a wedge in front of her, pushing the rest of the water away from her. She then jumped off of the pillar she had made, causing it to crumble near instantly, and the ice to start to melt. She seemed to be frowning again, but in this case, it wasn't directed at Drago.

"So you absorbed that fish's lifeforce, to use its power... You're different from what I've disposed of in the past, but also the same, Dead Apostle. Your end is now!"

With those words, Arcueid launched herself at Drago to attack with her claws.

Phazon narrowed his eyes, and sighed. No matter how one looked at it, this girl still was essentially an alternate version of Prof. Agoi, and would look at the information he gave her in that sort of way.

"Why are you called Aboy and not 'Agirl', when you're not a boy, but a girl, Aboy?" Rikku then jumped in with a question.

Phazon face-palmed, and Rikku turned her head towards him.

"Whaaaat?"

"Oh dear..."

That pretty much summed up the swordsman's rather lackluster response to a ghostly image of a faceless woman studying him, and then possessing one of his allies, the long-named broom-haired man, turning the man's gun upon Hiko himself. This was by far not the first case of possession that Hiko has encountered, and knew that possession was the most likely thing to have happened. It could be a variance, but it was still some sort of control over the man than the spirit just exerted. The swordsman looked somewhat dejected at the turn of events, sighing in exasperation.

"Can this not turn into a bloodbath all of a sudden... Why can spirits never try to communicate with words?"

As Vash raised his gun and fired at Hiko, the swordsman tracked the gunner's movement and the rise of his arm, the tension on the trigger finger... And dodged at just the right moment, timing Vash's trigger pull and his own movement so Vash had minimal time to react before firing. This allowed Hiko to "dodge the bullet", so to speak, with some space left, which he used to suddenly burst into a dash straight for the gunman.

"Looks like a naughty spirit needs to be spanked to remind it that it is better to play NICE!"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[The Maze]

Avatar couldn't move well. And now, the T-rex had guns. Well...

This could all be summed up in one rather crude word.

"FFFFFFFFFFFU-"

Then the large dinosaur thing opened fire, and Avatar's enraged curse was lost in the hail of paint-balls as the caped anti-hero tried to SOMEHOW dodge out of the way, trying to keep ahead of the thing's targeting. With a bad leg, that was easier said than done.

However, he did try to go for an insane plan. While he was trying to dodge and throw himself out of the way of paintballs, he snapped off a few shots aimed at one of the T-Rex's guns, trying to see if hitting it would shut it down.

[City Outskirts]

As Blackfire and Jack hid behind the fallen building, a totally useless guy in leather ran by, but did not see them. He rushed into the city, seeing all of the ghosts.

“Where am I? What is this strange place?” Movie Cyclops asked, as he looked around. He noticed the ghosts, but he did not think they were much of a threat.

Suddenly, one of the Bakemon noticed Cyclops… and it attacked!

“Evil Touch!” The Bakemon roared, and a creepy blue hand emerged from under its tattered cloth body and struck Cyclops in the chest!

Posted Image

Cyclops groaned as the hand hit him… and suddenly his body turned to dust!

From behind the fallen building, Blackfire frowned.

“… I think these ghosts might be more dangerous than the one you pal around with.”

Actually Bakemon are way easier to defeat than Wuya, but they don’t know that.

[The Cave]

Vash the Stampede is unrivaled when it comes to a gunfight. If it had actually been Vash who wanted to shoot Hiko, the odds of Hiko dodging would have been much lower. However, Vash was not the one who pulled the trigger.

In fact, Vash was resisting as hard as he could, from the depths of his mind fighting to regain control over his body. He was losing that fight, but he made it so that the spirit in control of him could not utilize Vash’s full abilities.

“… R… R… Ru… Ru… Run…” Vash gritted out.

[The Maze]

Sama paused, watching as the Rainbow Kimi disappeared. He blinked a few times, and then screamed as if he had just seen a really disturbing horror movie.

“GAAAAAAAAAAAH! I KILLED KIMI! I mean it wasn’t really Kimi but it looks like Kimi and acted like Kimi and punched like Kimi and now Kimi’s gonna know and she’s gonna kill meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!” Sama freaked out, running around in a circle and clutching his head.

Shiki must be confused.

Hiko, however, didn't listen to what Vash just told him to do. In the end, when it came down to serious situations, Hiko wasn't one to simply run away and leave the people he called comrades in need. In fact, he wouldn't even leave a stranger in need if he could help it. And Vash was closer than a stranger at this point, though Hiko still knew barely anything about the man.

The swordsman at least judged the man in the red coat to be a kind, if a bit goofy soul. And he wasn't going to leave a person like that to be possessed and just run.

Not when he could do something about it.

... But the question was, what...

He ducked under the second gunshot, shooting by Vash and planting his foot on the wall behind the man, flipping into the air, jumping over him and generally trying to keep his own position close to Vash's while constantly moving, making him a difficult target to track while Hiko thought.

"You seem to have a mistaken belief of me, long-named one. I am no coward. I will not run when you are in trouble, for that will make me a rather terrible person, wouldn't it?"

There were very few things that Hiko had access to that could potentially harm a spirit. He had to admit that two of the three swords on his belt could strike at spirits, but he would not be able to draw the first, and refused to draw the second. His final blade could possibly cut through a spirit, but it would do so in both the physical and spiritual sense, and he didn't want to harm Vash.

So the swords were out. Physical strikes never harmed spirits, and he would only do more damage to the man in the red coat. So what was left? His own spiritual power was a possibility, but he needed to somehow make sure that Vash wouldn't be harmed. The swordsman cursed internally: of all the times for Vash to be fighting the spirit, it would be now. If he didn't fight, then the enemy spirit could have provided a shield for the broom-heads own spirit...

He needed to be careful.

Hiko finally started paying attention to Vash's eyes, judging their appearance as he continued to dodge and duck around the man in a whirl of cloth. He was carefully timing that moment when Vash looked like he was almost completely covered by the spirit to strike...

Vash was trying his hardest to resist the control of the spirit, but it was stronger than he could imagine. Vash had dealt with psychic control over his body before – as a Plant, Vash had psychic abilities, and so did two of his most dangerous enemies. However, this was different.

It was possession. The spirit had control of Vash in a way where his usual psychic abilities just did not work. He was practically helpless. And so he fired at Hiko, but he fired wildly. He could not stop himself from pulling the trigger, but he did not aim and he shook his hand as much as he could to keep the bullets from flying straight.

“You… d-d-don’t… und…understand!” Vash cried out.

His right arm began to shake… and that’s when Saber became very quiet.

“… I can sense an energy coming from him… enormous energy…” Saber said, suddenly getting very worried.

The spirit was trying to access “that”. Vash’s most powerful weapon… the same weapon that had once wounded even The Beyonder…

Having dodged a few more bullets, Hiko was getting a little impatient and annoyed at the spirit. Vash was constantly in a fight with it, but with the spirit dominant. Still, it had the problem of Vash actually fighting back, bursting through the "shell" of possession.

Possession by itself was an interesting phenomenon. Souls were things that couldn't be damaged too easily, or invaded. An invasion of the soul was almost always permanent, and a reversal of such an effect took time, resources and an incredible amount of precision and planning. However, possession was slightly different from soul tainting. Possession was the wrapping and suppression of a soul within another, covering it with a shell that took over the major functions. It's why exorcism was a viable tactic and often left victims mentally scarred, but their spirit undamaged. The same thing was happening here, with Vash "bursting" through the shell that was threatening to take him over.

The problem was that it was terribly hard to judge when Vash was near the surface and bursting through the shell of possession and when he was under the shell and being controlled. The placement of the bursts was also very difficult to judge, especially since the physical body protected the spirit from things like Soul Sight and direct spiritual damage.

Hiko thought he had the timing down correctly when an incredible amount of power began to build up in the man, focusing on his arm. The amount of energy was enough to make Hiko pretty darn concerned for the well-being of everyone within the vicinity. So now, he dodged the final gunshot, and focused, his voice no longer playful.

"... You will have to trust me on this, friend. Stop fighting for a second and let the spirit overtake you."

In the meantime, his own energy began to build within his hand, fingers lighting on a strange, ghostly-golden flame...

“N-N-No…”

Vash was still struggling, but he was quickly getting tired. It was an enormous strain both physically and mentally to keep what little control he had. He felt his muscles burning, and he felt his body shaking… and he felt the Arm getting close to activating.

“If… I stop… now… we… die…” Vash managed to choke out, grunting and trying to force his hand down. The good news was that he had stopped shooting… but it was only a temporary reprieve.

Hiko just smiled in response to the man, one hand in front of him, and the glowing hand behind him, as he cracked an eye open.

"Have some faith, will you? You might want to decide quickly though. Once that arm builds enough power, I doubt even you would be able to stop it."

Indeed, Hiko might have been wrong. All that energy building up might very well be enough to annihilate them all, and the moment Vash stopped fighting would speak an end to all of them. But maybe, Hiko was right... And they had just a few seconds to make it work.

He glanced over his shoulder.

"Great King, maybe you would care to use that sheath of yours to protect yourself and the man of metal? This might get interesting."

With her the current enemy having finally been eliminated, Shiki R. calmly replaced her knife into her knife holder behind her back and under her jacket...

...while Sama seemed to completely freak out.

She watched him run around in circles a few times, before she reached out and grabbed the back of his jacket to try and stop his running.

"Calm down, and what are you talking about?" she then said, after she grabbed his jacket. Though she asked this, however, her disinterested expression remained.

“AHHH AHHH Guh!” Sama nearly gagged when Shiki grabbed the collar of his jacket and he ended up falling to the ground. He coughed a couple and times and rubbed is neck, and then he looked up at Shiki.

“Ah… that was, um… my best friend. Well, not the real her, but it looked like her… and I’m just a little freaked out over all of this…”

[The Cavern]

Vash was starting to shake more violently now. His arm was twitching, and he was practically screaming as he tried to hold back the spirit that had invaded his mind.

“Just what is your plan, Swordsman?” Saber called, but she did as he instructed and moved in front of Tony, pulling a golden triangular sheath from behind her back.

Light began to shimmer around Vash’s arm, but it had yet to transform. In the light, some of the shadows of the cave were illuminated… and the party might have noticed a small, thin strand of some kind of string.

It seemed to be coming out of Vash’s left ear, and was taunt as it extended deep down into the cave.

Hiko sighed in annoyance.

"Well, so much for trust. Prepare your defense, good king, and you might want to shield your eyes, this might be bright!"

And then, finally, he took the offensive. In just a few moments, he reversed his tactic, and snapped several punches out towards Vash's torso with his left hand, the one that was in front of him the entire time. With every punch, a flash of gold accompanied the strike as the swordsman's hand impacted with Vash's upper body.

It wasn't doing almost any damage to said body. Instead, the attack was almost entirely spiritual, aimed to bludgeon the spiritual side of existence. A move that Hiko had learned a long time ago and one of the more effective things to use against spirits: Reigeki (Spirit Strike). All three blows were aimed at the same point on Vash's body, and that was purely to do one thing: To shake both spirits. The first trike was aimed at the outer shell, but could hit or miss. Either way, it would hit something and make that particular soul "recoil". The second strike would almost assuredly strike Vash's spirit. The third would almost without question do the same thing. Repetitive strikes to the soul were dangerous when in large amounts, but in relatively light application like this one, they barely did any damage...

But they would shake the spirit. And with Vash's control slipping slightly because of being shaken up by a spiritually-damaging strike, the invading spirit had the chance to grab hold much more firmly.

And that is what Hiko was hoping for.

Vash suddenly crumpled when Hiko hit him. The good news was that the shaking and glowing in his arm had completely stopped, and Saber no longer sensed the energy building up inside it. Whatever was happening, it seemed to have stopped.

The bad news was Vash. He crumpled to the floor like a rag doll, and he began to flop around on the floor like a fish out of water. His head was twisted to the side and the silvery wisps of smoke were visible in his eyes.

Suddenly he was violently pulled backwards. The near-invisible string coming from his ear was pulling him back, deeper into the cavern…

Hiko didn't even pause when Vash began to crumple. With both spirits shaken into relative inaction, he had the perfect opportunity to use the wildcard he planned for use at this very moment. So as Vash crumpled to the ground, Hiko's other hand, the one with the glowing fingers slammed into the red-coated man's stomach, and Hiko twisted his hand, a bright flash of golden light escaping from the point where the swordsman struck.

"Ura Reifuin. This should do it!"

The Ura Reifuin was a spiritual seal, created in the same way that many shrine seals and Onmyodo magic was, using the same concepts. In this case, the first spirit struck would be the one that was targeted by the technique, and Hiko wanted to make sure that it wasn't Vash that he hit. If Vash was the one he struck...

Well, they would have a lot of problems.

The Ura Reifuin, the "Reverse Spirit Sealing" as it translated, was a technique specifically developed to fight active spiritual presence. Whether it be in the form of exorcism or in the form of active evil spirit in the area, the Reverse Spirit Sealing would do exactly what it said, link into the spirit's own power source, and reverse its progress. At that point, it could be used to temporarily contain the spirit, as long as it had power: the harder the spirit would fight and struggle, the more the seal would contain it until the spirit was completely drained.

However, Hiko didn't take into account a thread that connected the spirit to something deeper within the caverns. With the seal literally feeding back all of the spiritual power that it was using to keep Vash under control, normally the energy would act as a self-containment field, which made the Ura Reifuin so darn useful. However, with a connection like the one the spirit had somewhere deeper within the cavern, all that energy would be used as a feedback down the connection, at most leaving the spirit that possessed Vash weakened.

In the end, it was only a temporary measure. The Ura Reifuin required an actual shrine and physical seal to hold it in place properly, though Hiko performed its initial stages pretty much perfectly. Over time, the energy he expended on the seal would wane, and it would deteriorate in just under 12 hours, leaving the spirit free to roam again. However, Hiko hoped that by that time, they would find the source...

"You have a dangerous friend."

Shiki then motioned to him to get back up off the ground, not realizing just how true her statement was.

"That was just a component of this game. My guess is that it was assembled from your own memories of her, or from someone else's memories, that are in this maze," she then said, "It shouldn't have any effect on your original reality."

Little does Shiki know, that Super Kimi probably would be able to tell that Wonder Sama killed a facsimile of her, the instant she met Sama, even if she had no prior knowledge of any of that.

With Hiko preventing it from pulling Vash deeper into the cave, the creature responsible for possessing him in the first place decided to go to a different tactic. After a moment, the strand suddenly went limp and Vash sat up, screaming in agony.

The wispy, silvery cloud emerged from his mouth and floated up above Hiko in the air, near the roof of the cavern. It was just a mass, swirling cloud at the moment… and a second later, it burst into flames and fell to the ground, burning up.

It seemed that when Hiko attempted to seal it, the creature responsible had destroyed the ghostly apparition… but whatever had done so was still down, deeper into the cave.

Yet as it burned, a golden ticket fluttered down from where it had floated, and landed at Hiko’s feet.

[Maze]

Sama laughed and stood up, brushing off his hands onto his pants.

“I have a lot of dangerous friends. Luckily, it usually ends well and without TOO much pain.”

He frowned. Shiki did not look all that amused, and he had a feeling that he was just getting on her nerves with all of this.

“Err… maybe we should continue…”
