I'll bite your legs off!
|
Avalon border town As Blake was trying to move his shadows, Didymus elbowed/nudged him, and shook his head, as if to say "NO. NOT HERE, at any rate." Then Garnet was trying to reach out. He shook his head. "...I think I'll take a look, maybe see if there's anything to it..." he said, and the villager shrugged. He dismounted the cart. "...coming, you two?" he asked. He didn't want to let them out of his sight, truth be told... |

-Dark Brotherhood Base- Jimi and Hammah backed up. In the space of the hallway there was much less they could do in this fight, especially Hammah with his more destructive fire and lightning. Jimi and Hammah could work in unison, but they hadn't fought nearly enough with Nanami to add her in the mix. So they stepped back to give Nanami enough room to maneuver. Jimi kept focused, ready to use his Earth bending if he could, Hammah watching their back in case someone came from behind... -Ankh-Morpork- “I heard that the Dragons taught the Men and Elves the way of the Voice,” Carrot said. It was a bit of annoyance amongst dwarves, having not been bestowed the same honor, but then they had largely stayed in their mines during the Great War, and hadn't bothered about things. “So you are saying the dragons are coming back because they want to get back at us?” Carrot asked, “If they're intelligent, surely we can reason with them.” Carrot really believed you could. -Forest- “Monsters, probably,” Galv said to Musashi, grinning, “Fought a lot of monsters and beasts when I was younger. Elysia here's learned to fight bad guys too, thanks to being in the Watch.” He rotated a shoulder slightly, breathing deeply as he let his electricity surface a bit. “So, Musashi, do you have any powers?” Galv asked, curious, “Joyce, Elysia, and myself have electrical abilities. Melanie, Kyran, and Blake, that's their brother, have shadow abilities. Sage doesn't an ability though.” Galv didn't really care if Musashi had an ability or not. Sage had done just fine looking after Joyce being perfectly normal. Though with Kyran and her shadows...and what seemed to be happening now... -Avalon Border Town- Blake frowned, his shadows receding away to simply stay around him. Usually people wouldn't notice them if he was careful, unless they were looking, or had a type of sense for things like that. “I would be glad to join you,” Blake said, stepping off the cart and following Didymus, “If there is evil at work, it should be stopped...” |

[Dark Brotherhood Base] The very instant that Zyth was blown back by the force of her Voice, Nanami drew a short blade from her belt and started to rush towards him. She was intent on making a killing strike as quickly as she could. As Zyth tossed a crystalline dagger, Nanami held out her left hand and sent forth a blast of ice at the dagger. She hoped it would knock the dagger away from her. Then she rushed right at Zyth and tried to shank him in the stomach! [Ankh-Morpork] “There’s nothing to reason.” Raven replied, shaking her head. “They’re simply fulfilling a deal they made countless generations ago. There’s no reasoning with them, and there’s no changing what has already been set in motion.” [Forest] Musashi listened as Galv asked if he had any powers. He rubbed the back of his neck and nodded sheepishly. “Well… yeah, now that you mention it, I do… but I don’t like to rely on them. I prefer to just use my sword.” He patted the sword strapped to his back. [Avalon Border Town] “Like I said, I’d be happy to help.” Garnet said as she stepped over towards Didymus and Blake. “Perhaps if I can help these people, it will help show that not everyone who practices magic is a cruel person. Perhaps it will be a first step towards repairing the relations between our nations…” |

Avalon Border Town Didymus was quiet as Garnet and Blake stepped toward them, not revealing his thoughts to them about the circumstances... They began to follow the children, who began to run towards a more run-down part of the already modest village, till they came upon one house in particular, and approached the door. Suddenly, however, a strange melody could be heard coming from a nearby alley, and even words made out being sung: "Come little children, I'll take thee away, Into a land of enchantment, Come little children, the time's come to play Here in my garden of shadows..." Didymus tensed up at this, and slowly began to draw his sword, whispering a litany, as the children approached the house at rapped in the door, some clearly curious about the music coming from the alley across the street... [Dark Brotherhood Base] Extreme close combat was always inherently dangerous and nasty. Not even swordplay matched the true dangers of two knife fighters facing off against one another. A sword did not need the whole body to act in tandem, not really. While master swordsmen put their body into the strikes and moved legs independently from arms, there was still the legs-and-arms separation and that was it. When two knife fighters fought, it was with knife, fist, leg, body, head and any other body part in the vicinity that they could use as an advantage. So it was in extreme close quarters that Zyth met the woman he was told to kill as his right hand snapped to blocking position, a flash of blue light revealing that another crystalline dagger, this one of a deep and semi-transparent blue that seemed to radiate an aura of cold, the dagger's edge blocking the incoming strike from Nanami's short-blade with a clang. The second dagger, knocked away by Nanami's blast previously, embedded itself deep in the stone wall, a testament how insanely sharp it was. The only reason Nanami's blade withstood a clash with the assassin's own jeweled daggers was because of its masterful craftsmanship. Any other blade would have broken, cut through like butter against a hot knife. As the elf blocked Nanami's short blade with his own knife, he stepped forward to push against her own harder and to close distance a bit more, his other hand lashing over the clashed edges to try and punch Nanami in the face! [Dark Brotherhood Base] Nanami had spent the vast majority of her life going from one dangerous quest to the next. She had battled against all manner of thief and vagabond, knights and warriors, Orcs, Elves, Dwarves, Humans and all manner of beast and monster. So she did not worry too much about this battle against Zyth. She felt his blade impact against hers and she realized that his blade was magical. Unfortunately for Zyth, so was her blade. She ran her finger along the blade and it caused a light to illuminate the blade of her dagger, strengthening it so she could push back against Zyth’s blade. When he pushed harder against her and tried to throw a punch, Nanami threw up her other hand and blocked it with her gauntlet. [Avalon Border Town] Garnet frowned as she heard the song, and she quickly muttered something and a quick light enveloped her ears. She was using White Magic to try to block herself from falling for any enchantments. She knew that a lot of Mages had learned to enchant through song. She followed behind Didymus and Blake, since she was not one for combat. |

[Dark Brotherhood Base] The elf grinned as both of them locked knife blades and hands. A stalemate. His hand caught in hers, his knife still screeching across the edge of her own, two glowing daggers pushing against one another. Except it wasn't a stalemate. It was a trap. Like some sort of malevolent, metallic snake, a chain of razor-sharp links snapped out from the wrist of the arm which Nanami trapped with her own, wrapping twice around her arm and then snapping taut, the blades of the links trying to sink into her flesh and connecting her appendage to the elf's with a tough, steel chain. It was almost like one of those ritual knife duels, when the hands of both contestants were tied together and their other hands held knives. And now, the elf began his assault, stabbing and slashing away at Nanami, always aiming at areas in between the armor plates, always going for a strike that would either be debilitating or lethal in its execution. But in all cases, he never pulled off a strike that Nanami couldn't block, though there were a few opportunities like that. He almost seemed to be PLAYING. Avalon border town Didymus remained alert, debating whether or not to to go into the plaza or remain in hiding... ...the song continued. Follow sweet children, I'll show thee the way Through all the pain, and the sorrows Weep not poor children, for life is this way Murdering beauty and passions... And another voice sounded out, an old, cracking one. "My dear pretties...come to get some more treats from granny, eh?" Didymus slowly sheathed his sword again, and walked into the street, his overcloak still hanging on him, attempting to appear as though he was looking around. A frail old woman emerged from the house, and looked his way. "A caller, perhaps? No, no, no busniess with an old woman and her dear grandchildren..." she said. "Pardon me, ma'am..." Didymus said. "...but these children's families don't seem to have any knowledge of you..." The old woman chortled. "Oh, you wouldn't fault an old woman for trying to just...spoil some children...would you?" she said, snapping her fingers. At this point, Didymus flinched, then began to step forward. "Hey children! Who wants to get treats from the local bakery! I'll buy you ALL something!" The children started to look to him... "But granny's got something BETTER for you all..." the woman said. "Oh no..." Didymus said. "...I'll buy something for Granny, too. In fact, she's coming with us." At this the old woman chortled again. "Oh no, you young rascal...you ought to respect your ELDERS..." At this, rats began to gather from the woman's house, and Didymus could hear their squeaking... Meanwhile, the song continued... Hush now dear children, it must be this way, Too weary of life, and deceptions, Rest now my children, for soon we'll away, Into the calm, and the quiet... Some of the children began to walk towards the source, and Didymus positioned himself between them and it. "WOMAN, you're COMING WITH ME. Please make this easier on yourself..." The woman again chortled. "Why should I? Am I being arrested for black magic and witchcraft?" She paused. "And listen to that lovely music..." she said. "...I would listen to it...if it weren't time to feed my birdies..." she said, and she snapped again...a stream of rats began pouring out of her house! Didymus removed his overcloak and drew his sword as he lunged forward, whispering something and quickling touching the children who had been making their way toward the song, and they stopped, at least for a moment, as the old lady began to cackle. "PALADIN, PALADIN, CHASE YOUR FLEETING GLORY!" she cried, as the rats went toward him! The children, those that hadn't been moving towards the song, screamed and ran back, attempting to get behind Didymus-they had heard tales of the men in white robes enough to have some idea, at least, that he was their friend... Didymus slammed his blade into the ground, with a prayer, and the rats scattered back for a moment, the old woman shrieking! Didymus saw his opening and grabbed her, as she struggled, and her voice and his could be heard, incantation and prayer/exorcism clashing in the air... -Anhk-Morpork- Carrot was silent for a little bit as he considered Raven's words, staring back up at the sky. “Well then, we can't have dragons coming around and attacking everyone. If they won't behave, we'll have to find out who's responsible and put them under arrest,” Carrot said, “Do you have any information on where to start?” -Forest- “A sword, huh?” Galv said, “Never really got the hang of weapons myself...” Being able to toss lightning bolts around usually meant he never needed to. “Too old to learn now. I'm a grandfather!” Galv then added, laughing a bit, “Who taught you how to use a sword? Your dad?” -Avalon Border Town- The rats came out, and Didymus forced many of them back with a display of holy ability. Blake focused, holding his arms up, shadows moving around his arms, swirling downwards and entangling the rats, dragging them away into the darkness. He was glaring at the woman, his shadows moving forward as they took care of the rats, though they shyed away from the woman herself at the moment, as Didymus' fought her with his holy abilities. -Dark Brotherhood Base- Jimi frowned, watching as Nanami and Zyth clashed, now locked much too closely for he or Hammah to do much good, not without putting Nanami at risk... |

[Dark Brotherhood Base] Nanami very quickly realized she was in a bad position. Luckily her gauntlet kept the blades from doing TOO much damage, but they had embedded in her armor; an impressive and terrifying feat, considering her armor was designed to withstand even an Orc’s full strength swinging an axe. She was having to think fast and move even faster to block the strikes coming from Zyth, and she was quickly growing annoyed with it. She had no other choice but to play his game for the moment, however, as she waited. … then, after a few seconds more, she felt it. An internal calm settled over her and she knew she could once again turn to the power of the Voice. “Zun Haal Viik!” Nanami cried loudly, summoning up one of the Shouts to disarm her enemy! With any luck, it would also pry the blades from her arm and give her free movement once more. [Avalon Border Town] Garnet gasped as she saw the battle begin between Didymus and the mysterious old Granny So she decided to do what she could – namely she rushed towards the children and cried: “Children, children! Come to me, and don’t look! It’ll all be okay, you’ll be safe at home again soon!” Garnet DID have her racket out in her hand, just in case… but at best all she could do was cast a defensive spell. [Forest] Musashi paused for a moment as Galv mentioned his father. The Wutainese Prince’s permanent smile had faded and he looked down for a moment. “… No, ah… actually a few years back before I left home, a great warrior stayed at the palace for a couple of months. She was studying some old magic tome the Emperor kept, and she taught me how to fight.” Musashi had referred to his father as ‘The Emperor’, and he regretted it and hoped Galv wouldn’t question him further in that direction. [Ankh-Morpork] Raven let out a small sigh. She looked up at Carrot and in her gravest voice she said: “I’m afraid the… person… responsible isn’t someone you could arrest. However, it can be prevented. You said that this Witch, Maghda, was responsible for the attack, didn’t you?” Raven frowned. She had never met Maghda, but she did suspect a few things. “… She’s probably part of a cult that’s been active for a very long time. If you stopped the cult leaders, you could probably prevent this…” Edited by GoldenSama, Mar 21 2013, 05:53 PM.

[Dark Brotherhood Base] Another shout, this time meant to disarm, struck Zyth pretty much point-blank with no way for him to actually defend against it properly. The blue, glowing blade that he was attempting to shiv Nanami with went flying out of his hand as the chain that wrapped around he arm was forced apart, snapping back as though burnt. The blue blade also flew to the side, embedding itself in the opposite wall from the one that was glowing white, illuminating the field of battle with a light-blue luminescence. With so much light in the area, Zyth's form was much easier to make out and pinpoint. His cloak, no longer concealing him from sight easily, now hung around him and billowed like a living shadow. The assassin himself seemed very young, even for an elf, just past his adulthood. While a lot of his featured were still obscured, the light from the glowing daggers revealed that it WAS an elf... And he was very much alive. He reeled back from the shout, but didn't give Nanami too much of an opening himself. The moment he stumbled back, he actually LET himself fall backwards, rolling with the momentum to get up on his feet again, revealing that his chain was now wrapped around his own arm (it as a wonder he wasn't cutting himself on those blades), and yet another glowing knife in his main hand, this one a deep, emerald green that seemed to roil and churn like liquid. Without another word, he shot right back into combat, his chained arm making a circular "snapping" motion, the chain extending at the same time, snapping out like a whip at Nanami as the assassin attempted to take advantage again. |

[Dark Brotherhood Base] Nanami took note of Zyth’s youthful appearance. She was no expert when it came to Elves, but she knew they were known for their long life-spans, and for remaining youthful far longer than Humans or Dwarves. However, something about Zyth made her believe he really was young… but that went at odds with his skills, which were quite impressive. She had little time to think about that. The moment Zyth rolled away from her, she moved back into a more defensible position; and she grabbed a small wand from her belt. She had studied the magical arts all across Eptina, and she had developed a fighting style that combined magic and martial arts; though she rarely found herself needing to employ it. When Zyth shot right back at her and sent out the chained arm again; she raised the wand and spoke in old Wutainese. The result was a massive blast of ice and wind, all concentrated into a beam which fired right at Zyth! |

[Dark Brotherhood Base] Zyth never liked directed attacks all too much. Sure, they were damaging, and sure they were powerful and concentrated, but the likelihood of them actually hitting was much lower. Take, for example a bolt of lightning. It was incredibly fast, but someone who can see the motions the caster of said lightning bolt is making can dodge out of the directed path of the bolt avoiding damage entirely. It's why Zyth always preferred large-scale attacks to directed ones. It was almost impossible to dodge an explosion going off next to you, and when compared to a bolt of lightning, it would ALWAYS deal damage, however small. So when Nanami shot a directed dual-elemental beam, Zyth snapped his arm to the side, the chain catching onto stones of the nearby wall and yanked on the chain, retracting it and throwing himself out of the directed path of the bolt of magic. At the same time, he threw the green dagger in his hand at Nanami, trying to catch her in mid-casting. For someone who wasn't moving all that quickly on his own, the elven assassin was surprisingly mobile. And he was smirking. |

[Dark Brotherhood Base] There was a reason Nanami preferred to use a Wand as opposed to a Staff. Staves were much larger and heavier, but often channeled spells far stronger and easier than a Wand did. However, with a Staff two hands were usually required, and that went against Nanami’s combat style. With a wand, she was able to go on the offensive with her spells; while staying defensive with her dagger. That’s exactly what she did. Nanami saw the dagger thrown towards her as Zyth dodged the freezing blast, and she quickly brought her other hand up and used her dagger to deflect the one that had been thrown at her. |

[Dark Brotherhood Base] Zyth almost nodded to himself. Blocking that knife was the smartest and easiest thing to do, and as Nanami deflected the green, glowing dagger, it embedded itself in the ground in front of her as the assassin snapped away from the wall and rushed into melee again... And now, he had a red, glowing knife in one hand, and the one which had the chain wrapped around it held a sparking, yellow blade. Zyth threw the yellow one to follow the green blade, and dashed towards Nanami again, attempting to engage in a deadly melee dance once more. |
