Ankh-Morpork

Kasumi put the table back in place and said, "You know... unless people already knew about the magnets, it's still deception on your part. And since you never told us about the magnets, you still had an unfair advantage."

Kasumi put her hands on her hips and asked, "Or are you trying to deny that you never told us about the mangets?"

She wagged her finger and added, "Tsk, tsk, I can see you have a knack for gadgets and gimmicks, but this is a total waste of your talents."

City Gates

“Well if you're looking for a questionable quest, I'm sure you'll find it here,” Nobby said, shrugging and heading back to the gate, “We got lots of stuff you can get in this city.”

“Yes, you can get practically everything in this city...”

Nobby looked up, seeing a short man who had not been there a moment ago. He stay near the wall, a dark pair of glasses over his eyes, wearing black as well, though his head was visible, showing red hair.

Nobby paused, then grinned, “Oh! You're Blake, aren't you? Elysia's brother. She mentioned you were going to visit today.”

Blake paused, then nodded. He then glanced towards Dyne.

“Hello...” Blake said, “Who are you?”

Something was...off, about the red haired boy. For one thing, he didn't seem to be casting a shadow.

Hammah's Table

“Of course it's deception. It's gambling,” Hammah answered, “If someone isn't smart enough to know they're getting swindled, then I don't mind taking their money. Besides, it's not like I take money from those who really need it.”

He shrugged, “But if you feel so hotly about it, what am I to argue with a cute girl? Tell me, how am I wasting my talents? I need money, or otherwise I go hungry, or I can't afford to make more things.”

Kasumi crossed her arms and thought about it for a moment.

"Okay, I guess you make a good point, but... wouldn't you rather try to use your talents for a greater purpose? I'm sure someone with your talent can do a lot more than just this. You don't honestly plan on swindling people for the rest of your life, do you?"

-Outside the City Gates-

The brown-haired, cone-hat-wearing man looked up again, having put his hat back on, studying the person in front of him. He was strange, a very interesting aura about him. But it wasn't anything he met before, so he was looking at someone rather unique. Someone, possibly, as unique as himself, or even more so...

Nonetheless, he nodded.

"Hello and good day to you as well, stranger. I am simply a traveling monkey, nothing more, nothing less. And who is curious? What would the one whose half is missing wish to know?"

By now, the hard-packed dirt around him was already pushing up greens, and you could see some rather strong-looking shoots of grass and other plants growing under the resting man's brown cloak.

Hammah's Table-

“Of course not. This is just to pay the bills,” Hammah answered, “I've got a chicken to feed after all.”

He motioned towards Thaddius, who had made himself comfortable on Rosario's head.

“Yah, corn doesn't come cheap in the city,” Thaddius mentioned, then added “Cluck.”

“I like making things! All sorts of things! Taking it apart and seeing how it works...that's what I mostly want to do,” Hammah then added.

City Gates-

Blake was quiet, frowning. It wasn't too often people noticed the unusual thing about him.

“My name is Blake...Blake Hawkins...” the red haired young man answered Dyne, “My...I...can...sense, something odd about you. Very different...”

Nobby, who had enough sense to see these were unusual people, went off back to the gate, to make sure no one would steal it.

A shadow from the wall moved around Dyne, as if testing a bit, almost like it was looking at the nature growing around the man.

Ankh-Morpork: City Gates

"Strange? Perhaps. But no stranger than you, stranger. We all have a share of secrets, no?"

The man then smiled, nodding as he lifted the hat, looking Blake right in the eye, as if following some common courtesy.

"A pleasure to meet you, Blake Hawkins. I am Darryn Montgomery, for that is my birth-given name, but feel free to call me Dyne if you so wish. Do not be fooled by my references to spirits, oh half-soul, for I refer to many by the names that they deserve, and not names they have been given. However..."

He suddenly looked down, and smiled, poking lightly at a small shadow that danced away from his touch and from the plants underneath him.

"No.. You are not only half, you ARE whole, but... Your other half is not immobile. Then my apologies, the name is entirely inappropriate. You ARE intact in mind and soul, but your half is not immobile... But I shall have to ponder upon a name that most befits one of your ability. For now, shall I simply refer to you as "Hawk" perhaps, until a better name comes trotting? Or do you prefer to be referred to by the name your life-givers have given you?"

He spoke softly, with just a tiny hint of mischief in his tone, but kindly and gently nonetheless. If not for his travel-worn clothing, it would have been hard to believe that one such as him wandered. Most adventurers ended up harsh and rugged, for the roads were rarely safe... But somehow, something about Dyne was off.

Possibly that was the reason that he still lived.

KxS tried to keep quiet. Seems Hammah got himself into trouble. But knowing how smart he was, KxS was sure he'd get himself out of it.

Of course, it was all out of hope. He seemed to be handling it pretty well.

[Ankh-Morpork]

[Hammah’s Stand]

Rosario gasped as Kasumi flipped the table over, and when he spotted the magnet he frowned, realizing that he had been duped. But before he could open his mouth to complain, Kasumi and Hammah were arguing pretty heatedly.

He listened the whole time, but something caught his attention much more than the fact that Hammah was a cheat… it was what he mentioned about taking things apart, and his interest in machinery.

“… You know, there’s ways to make an honest day’s living for someone with those kinds of skills, at least if you’re telling the truth about that.” Rosario said, and his anger seemed to be gone.

Rosario couldn’t help but be less mad; since he also had an eye for gadgets and machinery.

[City Gate]

Out of the marshy wetlands another figure soon appeared by the gate where Dyne spoke with Nobby and Blake.

Her armor was stained with the blood of the bandits she had taken care of just a little while ago, and she had an annoyed expression on her face as she arrived at the gate to find it already congested with people.

“Move.” Nanami said simply.

She’s not really a people person.

[Mushroom Kingdom]

[Castle]

Princess Peach nodded a bit to the Plumbers. They seemed like nice enough fellows, and they had come very highly recommended. Despite being the monarch of the Mushroom Kingdom, Peach was actually very nice and got along well with her subjects.

“It is quite alright. As long as this is stopped before the water reaches the ground floor… no one has used that old dungeon since before I was born anyway.” Peach told them, and then she motioned for one of the Fungi to bring over a small chest and sit it down by the brothers.

“I think these will help you… they are made of a magical cloth that will allow you to breathe underwater! Though they look silly.”

Inside the chests were two green frog suits!

Because Mario items exist in this RP, because that’s really amusing.

[Alexandria]

[Vale Ruins]

The ruins near Vale were quite old, and mysterious. Not even the oldest residents of Vale could remember what had once been here, but many theorized that it was a fortress used during the Great War.

What was now Alexandria lies close to the Morgul Mountains, the natural border between the realms of Men and the Dark Lands that had once threatened the entire world. There were many old battlefields in Alexandria, from the dark days when the armies of evil marched into the Great Nation.

“Here we are!” Felix announced, pointing ahead to the ruins. It looked like a very run down stone fortress, but the walls were broken and crumbling. However, inside was a massive stone door with a carving of the sun on the front.

“They say that during the War, the Dark Lord used evil rituals to blot out the sun for several days at a time.” Felix told his friends. “So the Elves created these things called ‘Sun Stones’, which were supposed to glow with a great light. So the Elves and Men used the Sun as an emblem to defy the Dark Lord…”

Felix paused. “Which means there could be some ancient treasure down there!”

[Avalon]

[Camelot]

“Do not disparage the old man,” Cid said, shaking his head. “Merlin is an odd one, alright, but he has long been a friend of the Order. He long ago agreed not to cast any spells in Avalon, and he has helped more than once with bringing important information.”

Cid turned back to Arturia. “We shall take our leave, your highness. And we shall not disappoint Avalon, or the Order.”

[City]

“Halt!”

A young man in armor spotted the odd looking elf who was muttering to himself, and quickly approached. He was a young Knight, who was charged with guarding the city.

“State your business here!” The Knight demanded. It was unusual to see Elves this far north.

City Gate

“...Blake is the name my parents gave me. It works well for me...” the pale man who controlled shadows said towards Dyne. He was a man of little words, but he watched and listened quite a bit.

“He makes life, while you just sap away...you're just life trapped in death, while his power gets to leak free...Doesn't that make you jealous?” the shadow of a thought said, as if goading him on.

Blake shook his head, ignoring the suggestion. He had learned to ignore her in the past. He wouldn't start listening to her now.

Perhaps Dyne wasn't quite right about Blake being 'intact' in the mind.

Nobby, who was looking at them from a safe distance, saw Nanami approaching. He paused, making sure the gate was open. The black haired woman reminded me of Angua. Someone who could probably qualify as a barbarian horde all on their own.

Blake turned towards Nanami, then stepped back.

“Of course...I apologize for impeding your path...”

Hammah's Stand

Jimi was beginning to sense trouble. Apparently these two strangers also liked to tinker. He knew his brother was the kind of person who would spend three days making something to shave a minute off a simple task.

He glanced towards Kxs, “You think we should say something?”

“… You know, there’s ways to make an honest day’s living for someone with those kinds of skills, at least if you’re telling the truth about that.”

“What, work for wages?” Hammah said, as though the word was akin to performing the darkest of rituals. “Where's the fun in that? I'd have to do what other people say all the time, I'd have to follow rules instead of doing things my own way...I'm much happier freelancing.”

He shrugged, then waved towards the table, “Besides, that table is just a simple trick. Anyone could think of it, which is the beauty of it. Anyone could, but no one did. It's like the cat flap.”

Thaddius was still on Rosario's head.

-Princess Peach's Castle-

Luigi pulled out the costume, looking at it. This would let them breathe underwater? Must be some powerful magic...

Why couldn't it have just been a fishbowl? At least he could pretend those were a helmet.

“Well, we better get at it,” Luigi said, holding up the outfit, putting it on over his plumbing outfit, “How do I look?”

(Had to edit out the Star Maiden stuff. Sorry Kxs!)

-Vale-

“Treasure, huh? Maybe we can find a lot then go explore the world!” Garet said, his eyes gleaming, “I wonder if there's more Psynergy users out there somewhere...”

He hurried forward towards the Ruins, grinning. Jenna just sighed, staying near Isaac.

Nanami would have just walked right on by, but she paused, noticing that Nobby appeared to be on the City Watch. He could potentially help her reach her destination a bit quicker.

“I need to see the Patrician.” Nanami said, looking to them. She ignored Dyne completely.

[Hammah’s Stand]

Rosario frowned, though it was hard to tell if it was because of what Hammah said, or just the fact there was a chicken on his head.

“Well, I don’t necessarily mean work for regular wages… there’s so few people who are skilled with machines, if you can build your own, you can really make a good living off of it, and actually help people.”

Rosario, I don’t think Hammah’s interested.

Camelot Castle

Didymus paused.

"Did he? Why? I...I must confess, Elder, you know my questions. What Scripture says of "magic" and "sorcery"...what we have seen people do...is it all natural? If so, is the faith wrong? These tales of what the dragons can do, and..."

He sighed.

"I apologize, Elder, and I mean not to deny any man his due, especially anyone who aids the Order...but I'm a traditionalist, and I believe in rather traditional interpretations...they simply seem...natural. Or at least, I believe in caution...I just...that's what eats at me, Elder...my confusion on the issue itself, and my fear that the answer will be thoroughly...unpleasant. I even question the Order sometimes, and if indeed we follow the right path...in the end, I place my trust in God alone, as we all should, perhaps, but...well, this is why I always seem so concerned and uptight..."

He chuckled.

"Sorry to bother, Elder, but maybe, again, THIS is why you should do the talking."

Maidenville Library

A figure strolled through the otherwise cheerful and colorful village...and suddenly, its form shifted...to one with wings. It approached the library, and flew up to its balcony. Opening the door, it let itself inside, and transformed into a bipedal, muscular beast, with sharp teeth and claws...it seemed to be trying to sneak, but its form was clearly suited for fighting...

[Camelot Castle]

“You know not of what you speak!”

The doors swung open, and an old man in a gray cloak and blue hat appeared. He looked bent over and leaned on a walking stick, but behind his eyes there seemed to be something shimmering.

In Avalon, he was known as Merlin, though he went by many names in many lands. He swept into the room, and it seemed that he already knew everything that was said and done.

“What do you know of magic, boy? Nothing, if you equate it to sorcery!” Merlin shook his head. “Growing in Avalon there are many plants… some of them are edible, some are not… some can be used to make medicine, while others are poisonous to the touch! If you foolishly lump them all together, you would surely die of touching the poisonous plants!”

Merlin shook his wrinkled head. “Magic is to draw upon the power that exist in nature. That power has existed as long as this world, and was created with it! Sorcery on the other hand is to draw upon powers dark and artificial! Learn of what you speak, or speak not!”

Outside Castle Camelot

A few hours of wandering, a few hours of drinking, and the wanderer was still getting absolutely nowhere. This place was a BORE of all things: There were no mercenary offices, there was a church dedicated to one religion or another on almost every street (okay, that was PROBABLY not true, but it sure seemed like it), and it was WAY too quiet and peaceful.

It sure didn't seem like a place where a merchant would go to peddle weapons, but hey. He wasn't exactly asking for details at the time. Money was always a good thing to have, especially when you were short on gold to buy even necessities.

So this is how he finally ended up at the front gates of the magnificent castle of Camelot. In his experience, if you wanted to find work, look to the noble and those high in the hierarchy. If you were a mercenary looking to do work, best get hired up by some noble: the nobles always did have a dirty deed or two that needed to get done. And if not, he could always peddle his skills as a "security consultant" for a short time until he had enough money to travel elsewhere.

Magic-infused body or no, he still needed to eat.

So, it was without further ado that he stepped right up to the massive gates.

"So do I just knock to request entry or what?"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ankh-Morpork
City Gate

Dyne nodded in agreement.

"And as you understand yourself as Blake, then Blake you shall be. It is a pleasure to meet you, Blake."

Just as he was gathering thoughts to speak more, they were rather suddenly interrupted by a woman fully dressed in black and silver armor. He raised an eyebrow at her entrance... And smiled. She wasn't paying him any attention whatsoever, but he was curious, so he watched with curiosity as she requested to be led to the Patrician.

Wait... They were going into the city. Perhaps he could tag along with them then, and perhaps NOT get lost for a week in this metropolis!

"Excuse me, but would it be possible for me to come along? I do need to find a place to re-provision and rest, and you probably have a much better sense of direction than I. Could the monkey tag along, perhaps, until we reach this "Patrician" fellow?"

City Gates

Watching the gates was suppose to be easy. A posh job. You were out of the elements, didn't have to chase people, and you could usually nip some food here and there from any food carts coming through.

Dealing with scary woman in blood covered armor was not something he was meant to deal with.

“Errr...I can't take you to the Patrician. I'm just a Corporal!” Nobby said to Nanami, shaking his head, “You'll want to talk to Mister Vimes! He heads the Watch.”

Blake was quiet, then spoke up, “I know where the Watch is. My sister works there...I can lead you there.”

He then looked to Dyne, “You can come with if you want. I have no reason to stop you.”

Hammah's Table

“But I'd still have to do what other people want,” Hammah said dismissively towards Rosario, “And Thaddius get off of him. You don't know where he's been.”

With might have been a sigh, Thaddius jumped off Rosario's head, fluttering down and walking towards Hammah.

Hammah then turned to Kasumi again, preferring to talk to the cute girl over the boy.

“If I make a machine that helps people, then that's a bonus. Besides, it's not like I make weapons to hurt people,” Hammah added.

Dyne nodded.

"Indeed. And I see no reason to stay here either. A journey of a thousand miles does indeed begin with a single step, but it is certainly no reason to stop midway, now is it?"

The man stretched, yawned, and then stood up, fixing his hat on properly and singing his wooden box back cross his shoulders. Then, he picked up the long ringed staff that he set down previously, and waited, smiling lightly.

"Shall we move on then? The authorities wait for no one, and it would be a shame if they sped ahead without us, hmm?"
