[Dark Brotherhood Base: Tomb]

The elf watched the image in front of him move, from what he remembered being a simple scrying spell as it tracked Nanami, the woman he was supposed to assassinate. A woman in pitch-black armor with black hair, but a rather set look in her eye. A set... But somewhat deadened, tempered look, though one that still burned. It was the look of a warrior, but one that knew the harshest things in the world first-hand, but hadn't lost their ideals.

He almost felt sorry for her. Almost. To experience such hardships in her youth was a terrible, terrible thing. But all kinds existed in this world. And in a world where even the likes of HIM could exist...

In a world like that, the elf couldn't truly bring himself to care.

"So you want it done NOW, hm? Well then, I don't exactly like to go at it without a plan, but I suppose this will provide sufficient warmup."

Before, he equipped himself with a rather strange, magical arsenal. His armor, his weapons, everything seemed to be breathing magic, living within it, reveling in it. The chain that disappeared within his arm, the knife that made even Rica wary because of the completely untainted concept of "death" simply exhuming from it, his leathers, a cloak that hid him halfway in the shadows... But as the elf raised a hand and seven lights appeared around it, even the attention of those above would be drawn to this phenomenon.

Out of all the magic around him, the seven lights that the elf had just summoned were the brightest, the most powerful. The seven lights slowly dimmed, revealing daggers shaped out of pure, crystalline gems. Each of the daggers then disappeared under the dark cloak and set themselves into the seven empty spots on his back bandolier, completely concealing their light under the shadow veil of his cloak.

"Now, how do you propose I get to that woman? The tomb is still sealed, Dark One..."

[Ankh-Morpork]

Umbra glanced down at his shadowed companion, before turning his glance at Carrot. He could feel that the girl was anxious about something, but decided to ignore it. She spoke of nothing, and it was not his intent to pry open secrets she wished to remain as such.

"Arrighty den. Let us talk wid dis cap'n o' yers. I wanna know about did dragon stuff. I wanna see one."

He grinned.

"I always t'ought dey were legend. Myth. Stories ta tell de chldr'n. But to hear dem true? I ain't no true warrior till I've seen a dragon and lived ta tell 'bout it!"

-Ankh-Morpork-

“Sergeant Detrius, get those gawkers out of here! We don't need civilians in the way!” His Grace, the Duke of Ankh, Commander Sir Samuel Vimes, Blackboard Monitor yelled towards the troll, a thin cigar in his mouth.

Detrius saluted, then lumbered towards the group that formed. They quickly dispersed, as did most things that Detrius lumbered towards, including such usual inanimate objects like brick walls, carts, and on one occasion, an entire building.

Vimes sighed a little. The fires were put out, and he had Colon and Nobbes getting traffic back under control, turning when he saw Carrot stepping towards him, accompanied by Umbra, Raven, and Beast Boy.

Vimes was a middle aged man with a grizzled face, beat up armor, with a badge hanging on his belt. He wore a short sword, a crossbow, and a baton, standard Watch issue in Anhk-Morpork.

“What is it Carrot?” Vimes asked, frowning at the three. Strange group. Fit right into the city.

“Sir, these three are looking for the warrior from earlier. Nanami,” Carrot answered. “They were inquiring about the dragon.”

“It's a bloody dragon, what else is there to know?” Vimes asked, spitting on the ground as he glanced around. “And there was that witch too, Mag...something or other.”

“Magdha, sir,” Carrot supplied helpfully.

“Yah, her. Right now I have coppers keeping things under control, and others stepping up patrols for that Dark Brotherhood. Hell, even the damn Assassins' Guild is helping now,” Vimes said. His tone of voice greatly implied that he felt the Assassins' Guild was about as helpful as a wet candle in the bottom of a mineshaft.

Vimes then turned his attention to the three, not in the least bit intimidated by Umbra's bulk. “So, what is it? I don't have time to play tour guide. I'm going to have to see the Patrician soon enough to explain all this.”

-Cottage-

Galv smirked a little, “Maybe I can't do much, but I'm sure I can buy you a little peace. I don't mean to grab, but my electrical abilities are second to none.”

[Dark Brotherhood Base: Tomb]

Rica simply watched Zyth with some mild amusement. Zyth was clearly incredibly powerful… a good choice to kill a Dragonborn like Nanami. Of course, the elf could become a problem if he turned against Rica… but Rica did not fear him.

“This tomb IS sealed… but that seal is easily broken.”

Rica closed his eyes and he began to chant quietly in an ancient language. Suddenly a dim glow began to shimmer across Rica’s body. The light was dim, and a harsh red. It made it painful to even glance towards Rica.

He raised his hand and snapped his fingers; and the seal shattered as Rica tapped into a primal, ancient and nigh-unstoppable power. Something beyond magic… something that came straight from the Dark Lord’s master.

Rica opened his eyes and the light faded.

“… There. Now go. Kill the woman and her companions.”

[Ankh-Morpork]

“… Believe me, sir… if it’s an explanation your Patrician desires, I can provide a better explanation than anyone else on this planet.” Raven said as she looked up to Vimes. She hated to say much… she was greatly afraid that if she gave away the details, she would be arrested and they would try to execute her…

And she feared what she might do if cornered… if her instincts took hold…

“… I know the Dragons have returned… and I know why they have turned against Man…”

[Cottage]

The Old Man sighed, leaning back. He looked to his wife, and then looked back to Galv and nodded.

“… For the last few weeks, several nasty creatures have been appearing in the woods. They leave us alone most o’ the time, but they’ve been attacking travelers. I wouldn’t want to get too close to ‘em if I were you… but if you’re serious… you can find them in the woods, near the old well.”

[Dark Brotherhood: Tomb]

The elf stood up, stretching again, trying to get the various knots out of his body. He had a LOT of them from the ages he had spent in the coffin, but at least they weren't bothering him quite yet. He did make a note to himself to get to a hit spring and/or massage parlor as soon as he could though. He wasn't one for frivolities, but he figured he deserved at least SOME pampering.

Saren would agree when he woke up, too.

As Rica shattered the seal on the tomb, the elf simply walked over to the main stone slab that was used as a detriment on the entrance, and attempted to push it to the side, ignoring the glow and power show around Rica. It wasn't his problem, but he noted that Rica would become a nasty opponent if faced...

The pushing didn't work so well, so he guessed that it must be daytime outside, as his vampiric traits weren't quite kicking in properly. So instead, the elf pulled out one of those daggers, a perfectly see-through blade made of diamond that turned completely transparent and started to give off a somewhat bright white light, and stuck it into the door, releasing its magic. There was a loud crack of energy and the large, stone slab had gained dozens of cracks in its center. A second surge cracked the door further, and a third (though weaker than the previous two) cracked through to the other side of the stone slab.

Putting the dagger away, the elf simply snapped a kick at the crack, opening a hole just wide enough for himself to get through, and looked behind his shoulder.

"You better have a good reward ready for this job. I don't play for free."

And he vanished beyond the tomb entrance, dashing down the hallway of the underground passages in the main tomb. Running amongst the shelves, the air full of death, decay and the smell of dark magic and preservative salves, the elf almost felt at home. Too bad Saren wasn't awake yet... This would have been the perfect time to flex his magic muscles.

But that wasn't what he was supposed to be doing. With a quick sniff on the air, he felt around for any sort of semblance of a breeze, but finding none he figured he was too deep. So he followed the passages of the tomb, slowly leading him up several winding staircases to what was the main Dark Brotherhood base...

---

However, the elf couldn't quite conceal the fact that the tomb was now opened. All the magic that was contained within the seal and avoided being negated by the Cold Iron, added with Rica's own efforts, made for a rush of power that shot through the catacombs of the Dark Brotherhood base, shaking it, and rushing even further upward, causing disturbances and small shakes even close to the surface...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Ankh-Morpork]

Umbra was shell-shocked.

"... Eh. Wait. Who, whoa, a momend dere, Raven-girl. Didja say dat ye KNOW of dis dragon stuff???"

Never before did the girl actually reveal that she actually knew anything about what was going on. Sure, Umbra figured she had her secrets, but to think that somehow, through mere coincidence, she was here with knowledge of dragons? That was almost TOO much of a coincidence. It sounded almost like one of his ma's tales of ancient heroes.

"Ye sure ye wanna tell em about all o' it t'ough, Raven-girl? Ye kept quiet, ye gots a reason for it, I presume?"

Vimes frowned, staring down at Raven for a few moments before he spoke back up.

“Miss, I'm a Watchman. I patrol Ankh-Morpork. I deal in people breaking the law. Dragons, witches, things like that, are not normally my jurisdiction,” Vimes finally supplied.

“Sir, but it could be important,” Carrot spoke up. Vimes looked towards the captain. There was worry on his face...

Of Carrot would be worried about this stuff. It was just like Carrot.

“Fine. Captain Carrot, I'm appointing you in charge of the dragon investigation,” Vimes said, “I don't think there's any actual law about bringing dragons back to raze cities, but if we can't book them on something like “Being a daft bugger” or something of the like, we're not real coppers. Have Sergeant Angua accompany you if you want, Captain.”

He then turned back to Raven, Umbra, and Beast Boy.

“You can tell Carrot the details then. He will handle things,” Vimes said.

-Dark Brotherhood Base-

Jimi paused, feeling the power surge upwards, as did Hammah, the two sharing a glance.

“...Whatever that was can not be good...” Jimi said, looking around. It was coming from below...should he keep Earth bending downwards, or head back up?

He glanced towards Nanami, deciding to take her lead.

-Cottage-

Galv nodded, “Don't worry, I won't have to get close. Come on Elysia, you can come to.”

“Ohhh, can I come?” Kyran asked, looking up, “I'd like to help!”

“You should stay here and rest a bit, Kyran,” Galv said to his daughter, “Especially after what happened earlier...”

“Okay then...” Kyran sighed, then sat down next to Musashi, “I'll just stay here with Musashi then!”

Galv froze, then turned to look at Musashi.

“...You better come too, Musashi,” Galv said, “If you're going to be dating Kyran, I wanna see how well you can handle yourself in tough situations.”

Elysia frowned instantly, whipping her head from her father to Musashi. "WHAT? I don't want HIM to come along dad!"

Elysia cherished her time with her father...They worked well together and it was always nice to be able to talk to him about things. She was close to her mom as well, but she certainly enjoyed her father's presence more. He didn't baby her, instead he taught her and let her make mistakes.

But she doubted he'd let her KILL Musashi.

Melanie frowned, placing a hand on Elysia's shoulder. "Elysia darling do as your father says...Kyran and I will stay here and keep an eye on Joyce and Alexander."

Rica said nothing. He merely watched. He was not sure if this long-slumbering elf could manage to kill the Dragonborn or not, and in all truth he did not care. In the best case scenario, Zyth would kill Nanami and all it would cost Rica was some cash.

Or Zyth would fall, but would inflict enough damage that Nanami would be weakened and easily overwhelmed by his armies.

He slipped into the shadows and vanished…

[…]

Nanami felt the surge of power too and she stopped. She could feel a very old magic… something that came from the days prior to the Great War. Such an old and ancient magic was undeniably powerful, and presented a lot of challenges.

She looked over to Jimi and Hammah.

“… You should probably go back to Ankh-Morpork. I think things just got very real.”

[Cottage]

Musashi sighed and stood up, walking over to Galv and Elysia. He had a feeling that it was probably dumb to go off into a dangerous forest with two people who were really unhappy about his dating Kyran, but he decided not to say anything.

After all… it wouldn’t do any good.

“Come on, we’ll kill those monsters and be back in time for tea.” Musashi smirked to Elysia.

Didymus paused.

"...I fear you two have mistaken my meaning." he said. "I cannot say if there currently is a threat here or not. In some way, I would say yes, but even then I do not know where it would be, if it is even here. I could perhaps attempt to search for it, but my point is, again, it's kind of a back and forth here..." he added.

The elf was running now. Running, and it felt GOOD. Ages of hardened muscles were finally coming back to normal, the pain of using them so much suddenly was going away as they moved more and more fluidly. He still wasn't nearly as strong and fast as he was before, which was a little worrisome, but he got to move, to run, to go FREE.

It was the best feeling he had experienced in a long time. Like a bird flying from its cage, the gray-skinned elf shot down the hallways as fast as his legs would carry him, breathing deeply and evenly as he ran.

And with every step, he moved quicker. With every motion, he ran faster. With every swing of his arms, the pain in his body lessened. Everything was regulating itself, and he could FEEL his heart beating against his chest, providing him with life he long thought forgotten. Spurred by the thought of seeing day again, the gray elf moved.

And he was inadvertently moving right towards Nanami's group...

Nanami stood as she sensed a movement from the far end of the tunnel. She felt the same sort of magical energy she had during the pulse from before, and she immediately drew her knife.

“… Something’s coming.” Nanami told to Jimi and Hammah.

Didymus gave a small sigh himself.

"I'm not sure I do know it better, sometimes..." he said.

"Anyway, we'll be heading through the town, so I can always ask about it then...but that's not likely to find anything. Otherwise, the urgency of our mission may call us onward barring any sudden, instant discoveries..."

They eventually did wheel into town, to find it was, as Didymus said, a small village, with grim, wary people, who regarded them somberly as they rolled in.

"Hail." Didymus said.

"...Brother Paladin, hail." said one of the townsfolk.

"...tell me, sir..." Didymus went on. "...have there been any...suspicious activities of late? I hope that things have been peaceful..."

The townsperson shook his head.

"Things have seemed to be quiet lately..." he said.

A ways away, some children were coming along.

"Come on!" one called to the others. "Granny's waiting to play!"

The townsperson looked their way.

"Though a lot of children HAVE been talking about some imaginary friend named "Granny"...one of our girls introduced this game where they went to find "granny" to her friends, and it seemed to take..."

Didymus paused, rubbing his chin...

Jimi and Hammah shared a glance, then turned back to Nanami.

“So we helped you fight that crazy witch,” Jimi started.

“Wasted a few good potions, I might add,” Hammah added.

“Dwelved into the ruins beneath Anhk-Morpork.”

“Fought deadly assassins.”

“Fought a monster from another realm.”

“And are now following you towards a source of scary magical energy that even we can feel.”

Jimi and Hammah frowned at Nanami.

“And you expect us to just leave now?” they finished in unison.

They grinned, and got ready to right whatever was coming...

“Look at it this way,” Galv said to Elysia quietly, as they walked outside the cottage, “Would you rather he be back here with Kyran, possibly unsupervised, or out here with us, where we can keep an eye on him?”

Galv wasn't entirely sure what to think of Musashi, but with recent events, plus experience with Sage, had taught him to at least give Musashi some trust.

But he certainly wasn't going to let Musashi and his daughter go and play parcheesi somewhere just yet.

-Avalon Border Town-

Blake frowned. He was not a stranger to strange people only he could see and told him to do things. CoughSamaraCough.

He focused, looking normal as his shadows moved towards the children, following them carefully, to see just where this child was bringing them to, and who this 'granny' might be...

It was with great irony that this particular scene unveiled, as Hammah said "Deadly Assassins", for that was the exact moment that the gray-skinned elf, covered head-to-toe in black shot from the side passage into the hall and turned to race towards Nanami and the other two. It took him no more than a second to identify the girl as a target and to see that she had two allies, but that didn't slow him down at all.

The elf continued to run at a surprisingly wide lope, not too quick, but not slowly either, approaching at an almost dead-run and heading right towards Nanami, ignoring the other two.

As he approached, the elf snapped out his left hand, a pair of silvery throwing daggers arching through the air to Nanami's left and right, as he himself approached down the center, jumped...

And went for a sudden takedown, right arm pulling back as he jumped, and then bearing his whole body weight against Nanami, the right hand snapping forward and aiming a dagger-blade that sprung from his right gauntlet right for her neck!

It was a somewhat insidious tactic. Box a target with throwing knives so they remain in the center, then take them down. It didn't work against the most skilled opponents, but the assassin didn't care much at the moment. If this tactic didn't work... He had many other to use.

Nanami spotted the elf as he appeared out of the darkness in front of them and immediately attacked. A barrage of knives came at her from both sides, and Zyth rushed to make a killing strike.

Without flinching, Nanami simply shouted: “Fus Ro Dah!”

The unrivaled power of the Voice exploded forth from her words and sent an incredible wave of energy at all sides in front of her, knocking both the knives and the Elf who had thrown them away from her.

Since the Voice could throw around Mammoths that weighed thousands of pounds, there was little-to-no chance that Zyth could actually resist the shout.

[Ankh-Morpork]

Raven looked to Carrot. She let out a small sigh. She was starting to wonder if her escape from Alexandria wasn’t part of some higher purpose… if the dragons had returned, then it seemed everything was falling into place.

“… How much do you know about the Great War?” She asked Carrot, but she did not wait for an answer. “The Dragons sided with the Kings of Men and Elves instead of the Dark Lord… it was not by coincidence.”

Raven let out another small sigh. “The Dragons had no choice. They sided with the Men and Elves because they had been forced to… but it is said that when they return, they will side against the Men and Elves.”

[Forest]

Musashi sighed a bit as he, Galv and Elysia headed into the forest. It was a thick and dense forest, and filled with odd animal and insect sounds. Musashi had to shudder a little at the idea of so many creatures around them.

“So what do you suppose it is that’s out here?” Musashi asked, trying to make conversation.

[Avalon Border Town]

Garnet closed her eyes and looked towards the children who were going to find “granny”. She concentrated and lifted one hand. She was trying to sense for any traces of magic.

Although magic came in many different varieties, most of it relied on Mana. If these children had been near someone who was using magic, then she might be able to sense some traces of mana on them.

Indeed, the elf couldn't resist the blast of force that sent him flying in the exact opposite direction in which he was originally planning to go. In fact, with how light his body actually was, he went flying at an angle upward, hitting the ceiling. However, he didn't seem to lose orientation like many others would in such a throw and had the presence of mind to flip himself, so his feet were the ones which hit the ceiling first.

For a second, he hung there, pressed back into stone with a fave of force, smirking. Good. He didn't have an easy target. It would have been boring otherwise.

He smirked at Nanami, his grey eyes locking with her own for a moment...

Something was up. He was dressed as an assassin, but there was no true intent for her death there...

The force wave passed, and just as it did, the elf tensed his legs, springing right back to the ground and back into melee, but this time there was a flash of light as something that glowed with a dim, crystalline appeared in his hand. And that was what he attacked with, throwing a glowing dagger of some transparent crystal or gem at Nanami this time directly, and rushing at her right behind the dagger, supposedly to try to use his assassin's blade within the gauntlet once more.
