Umbra's eyebrows rose up into his hairline as he gaped at the man that just offered him food.

"Whoa whoa, jus' a moment dere, pal. Yer tellin' me dat a DRAGON attacked dis place? But... But... Dragons are just myth! Legend! Dey're not REAL! Dey're de great beasts o' mythos, but dey ain't existin'!"

Of course, he was immediately derailed from that particular outburst with the smell of food. Very... Strange food. Umbra looked questioningly at the... Things... The man was offering to sell them, and took a deep whiff of the smell. And grimaced.

"Sumwun really dook deir dam time killin' all dat's good about meat ta make dose... No t'ankee, I'm gonna pass on dese. I ain't wastin' copper fer somet'in dat turns respectable meat inta... Dat."

His mind finally caught up, and he leaned towards the man, narrowing his eyes.

"Ye not be lying ta me, are ye? About dis dragon stuff?"

"Alexander....I like it" Melanie said with a smile, pushing some hair out of Joyce's face.

Joyce grinned, obviously exhausted. She did manage to catch a glance of Musashi. "T-Thanks for bringing us here by the way. This was much easier than giving birth in a cart"

Elysia rolled her eyes, now even Joyce seemed to like Musashi.

"Would you like to see the baby?" Joyce continued to Musashi.

"Don't let the creeper hold the baby!" Elysia protested "He'll drop him"

Dibbler bridled a bit at Umbra's accusation of his sausage-inna-bun, but then returned to his usual cheerful self.

“Of course I'm not lying,” Dibbler said, “Came from the sky, attacked the city. The City Watch and some odd man managed to take it down. Don't know much more then that. I'd try talking to Captain Carrot if you want to know more.”

He pointed down the street, where some of the City Watch where. He indicated a young man who towered above much of the ground, with bright red hair.

“It's only fair,” Sage said, nodding, “You did help us quite a bit.”

He took his son Alexander now, carefully holding, pausing for a moment as a shock went through his spine from the child, but he smiled still.

“Errr...He might shock...” Sage warned.

[Ankh-Morpork]

“… Dragons…”

Raven was quiet and sulking as they heard the news. She threw her hood back over her head and immediately turned away from the others, hurriedly walking in the direction of Captain Carrot.

She hadn’t expected this.

“Are you Captain Carrot?” She asked.

[Cottage]

Musashi simply sighed towards Elysia. He wondered why this woman hated him so badly. Instead he just looked to Joyce and rubbed the back of his neck.

“He’s a very cute baby. Congratulations,” He said to Sage and Joyce with a smile.

[Dark Brotherhood Base]

Nanami nodded and headed in the direction of the pulse.

“It’s coming from beneath us… look for a way to get down there!”

[…]

Beneath the Base, where the coffin sat, there was a suddenly puff of dark smoke and Rica appeared.

“Hmph… perhaps you can be of some use to me.” He muttered to himself as he walked over to the small box of cold iron. He flicked the box open and looked down at the heart that lay inside.

“… Could be fun.” Rica shrugged. He picked up the heart and walked over towards the coffin.

“Well, what are you waiting for? Get up you lazy bastard.”

“What happened at this village?”

Didymus paused.

"Witches." he said.

"These woods, especially. When a community is not alert...it starts out slow. A child goes missing in the woods, especially at night. Then two. Or three."

He paused again.

"Sometimes, we may be too...soft...when it comes to finding the culprits. We've found a few, but a proper investigation into if one is hiding in the populace or a full sweep of these woods is difficult to organize, with the war placing such a tax on our manpower. And this not being the only village that needs help."

He stopped there, seeing if this would be enough to sate them, or if they would press for more...

[Dark Brotherhood Base: Tomb]

This place was old. Dusty. Unopened. When Rica shifted into the tomb itself, it revealed to be a relatively big chamber sealed off by a door with 7 strange lights barring the way. Itt seems as though he bypassed one of the protections completely, avoiding the main entrance of the tomb without having to open the main entrance and its puzzle.

The chamber inside was pretty big, a coffin elevated in the center of the chamber on a climbing staircase. The walls were rough, uncarved, and breathed of the word "prison".

The coffin itself stood slightly away from a stone pedestal, on which there was a box. A box completely made of cold iron, about the size of a human head. And it was a thick box, with enough cold iron to shut down a ridiculously large amount of magical energy or negate the existence of a relatively powerful magical creature.

And it is from this box that Rica had drawn a heart. A heart made of deep-red crystal with a small, green light in the core of the red crystal. The moment Rica took it out of its box, it actually began to beat in his hands, like a real heart, pulsing with the same "beat" as the one that had sent a message to whomever else was in the tomb. A wave of magic almost forced it out of Rica's hand as the wave forcefully pushed on air, and the air threw the box of cold iron far into the corner of the room, the heart's glow increasing with the distance.

And then, as Rica raised it above the coffin, the heart slipped from the man's fingers and dropped onto the coffin, fell THROUGH the ancient, petrified wood... And a bright light emitted through the many cracks in the aged coffin, shining for just a second, before disappearing.

Then, there was silence for a full minute before a series of thumps from the inside of the coffin tried to open it. Each was progressively stronger before the last one burst the coffin open, a single hand raised afterwards as the top of the coffin spun off its hinge and slammed into one of the distant walls.

Whoever was inside was quite strong.

However, as the shape rose, it didn't reveal dead flesh. A living, breathing elf, pale though he was, sat up in the coffin and looked around cautiously, zoning in on Rica for a moment. The elf's eyes narrowed, watching any movements Rica was making while he slowly stood, somewhat shaky from the ages the body had spent in the coffin, but surprisingly mobile for someone who was supposed to be dead for almost a thousand years.

"... You woke me up. Why."

The voice was low, whispery, but not hard to understand or hear. It had a quiet quality to it, as though this man was not used to speaking loudly, and held the cracking quality of disuse, but was still quite lucid.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Ankh-Morpork]

As Umbra turned to ask his traveling companions about what they were going to do now, he blinked in surprise as he saw Raven... Missing. Quickly turning his head from side to side to see where she disappeared, he barely managed to catch the cape-tail of the girl in the distance heading right for the man this salesman called "Carrot".

Umbra could see why.

"Oooooii! Raven-girl! Wait up!"

He quickly followed the girl, pushing his way through the people in his way, apologizing to every single person he pushed, but continuing nonetheless until he caught up to Raven and stood in front of Carrot along with the girl.

"Ye don' need ta hurry, ya know. We gots time. So, what caught yer tail on fire, raven-girl?"

Captain Carrot paused, turning as Raven, Umbra, and Beast Boy appeared. He removed his helmet, nodding to the three and then placed it back on.

“I am indeed Captain Carrot Ironfounderson,” Carrot smiled, “And you must be new to the city, welcome!”

Carrot could probably name everyone who lived in Ankh-Morpork...

“I'm sorry but the road is blocked right now. We're clearing something up and tending to a few emergencies,” Carrot added, “But can I help you with anything?”

-Dark Brotherhood Base-

“How about this way?” Jimi said, focusing and using his Earth bending to create down to the next level, “After me!”

Jimi jumped down to the lower level, Hammah following.

They'd still have a few levels to go to get there though...

-Avalon Border-

Blake frowned. Not at Didymus, but at the situation.

“A terrible thing, someone using this situation to create more evil in this world,” Blake sighed, “I wouldn't mind stopping and seeing if we can help at all...But I wouldn't want to delay your mission, and my own probably doesn't have much time left to fulfill...”

-Cottage-

Sage grinned brightly, still holding his son, bending down and staying close to Joyce, unable to look away from the small bundle in his arms.

“Okay, everyone give the new parents some time,” Galv spoke up, ushering everyone out of the room, then turned to the elderly Wutanese couple.

“Thank you very much for your kindness,” Galv said to them, bowing his head low, “We are in your debt. If you require any assistance, please, don't hesitate to ask.”

“That’s terrible!” Garnet said, frowning and covering her mouth. She let her hair fall in front of her eyes as she thought about the full weight of it.

“… We have to do something. I can’t stand the idea of someone out in the woods hurting children.”

[Ankh-Morpork]

Raven looked to Carrot and her eyes were narrowed and her visage somber.

“I heard that a dragon attacked this city. Please, tell me what happened.” Raven begged him. She feared that this might have something to do with… Him.

[Dark Brotherhood Base]

[Tomb]

“I have use of you.” Rica replied simply. He gazed upon the Elf who had lay dead for countless generations. It was rare that Rica would come face to face with something even older than himself.

“I am Rica, Dark Lord of the North. A rather cumbersome enemy called a ‘Dragonborn’ is on her way here. She is no real threat to me, but she can delay my plans, and I have waited long enough. So name your price to dispose of this woman.”

[Cottage]

The old man shook his head.

“It is no worry. It is nice to see a fresh life brought into this world… and it is an honor to help allies of our Prince.” He said, and he gave a polite bow. “Stay as long as you’d like. Just please, stay out of the woods. There are dangerous creatures there.”

[Dark Brotherhood Base: Tomb]

Zyth's eyebrow rose as he watched this man.

A dark lord? Of the north? did that mean more than one existed? And the Dragonborn? Weren't they as close to walking deities it got?

Things seemed to have changed while he slept.

"... You know of me? Curious. I doubt the Dark Brotherhood would have kept records of me, the Black Knives or Guild Core. Not that I am not appreciative of the resuscitation, but I am curious as to why seek me out when others could do the same job without having to wake the dead."

The elf rose from the coffin, stretching as he did. His clothing seemed to be reconstructing itself as time passed, embedded with arcane energy that even now refused to dissipate, proof of how deeply magic was entrenched within the cloth. The tattered rags and piles of dust soon started to make form, turning into a set of skin-tight leathers covered by bones of all kinds to shape itself something like an exoskeleton, the white and black blending surprisingly well into the dark. A cloak continued to shape itself from the shadow the elf cast upon the ground, swirling down from his shoulders until it reached the ground, ending its progress of self-reconstruction there.

He reached into the coffin again, slipping out a long chain of razor-sharp links that attached to one another the moment he touched one end of the chain, and the entire thing slithered into his arm, sinking seemingly under the skin and leaving a strange, tattooed pattern of razor links in its place. Next came a bandolier for knives and vials which he wrapped around his shoulder, the bandolier disappearing underneath the cloak under his bag. Then came a pair of gauntlets which he strapped to his wrists and linked to the rest of his skeletal full-body leathers.

Strangely enough, there were seven spots in the bandolier that were still empty...

Having removed all the items from the coffin, the elf sat on its edge, facing Rica again.

"So, my price will depend on the answers you give me to the questions I shall ask. Why me? Why seek out this old, forgotten place and free me from my prison? Why not someone else? And why now, if not before?"

Rica chuckled. He rather liked Zyth.

“Of course I know of you. Make no mistake, the Dark Brotherhood doesn’t know much about you… but I serve that which is so old, and so powerful that it makes you look like a newborn. There is little that had occurred in this world that I am not aware of.”

Rica smirked, leaning back against the wall with his arms crossed. He was summing up Zyth… and he was impressed.

“Why you? Because you are good at killing people; and because the Dragonborn has proven exceptionally difficult to kill. I need her destroyed, and I don’t have the time to do it myself.”

Rica’s eyes narrowed and a sinister grin crossed his lips. “Of course… if you don’t want the job, then I’ll keep my money… and put you back in the box.”

Didymus nodded as Garnet spoke and said it was terrible, but...

"And now you know why the term "witch" means nothing good when I say it." he said. "As it stands, there may or may not be one, or two, or a cult of them, hiding somewhere in this area. Or maybe there's not one now, but one's coming."

He paused.

"As I said, the Order's manpower is stretched and slowly is being drained by this war. Sometimes we can get a proper investigation to find a witch in the community-sometimes they live in town, sometimes in the woods, the woods are just the most famous of their "hunting grounds" due to how easy it is to ambush someone with no witnesses. And then there was the time that cult holed up in this area...or was that somewhere else?"

He paused.

"Suffice to say, I don't know whether or not some witch plagues the town nearby now or not, but the sheer tenacity they've shown in doing so has slowly whittled the town's population whether by body count or by those who are convinced to move away..."

There was more he could say on the subject, much more, even, but he figured that it may be...unbecoming, or unnecessary, to speak more gritty details unless they pressed.

Zyth simply chuckled at Rica's sudden sinister mood. It was all very posturing, very pretentious and meant to unnerve those the Dark Lord of the North spoke with. Too bad that Zyth was used to pretty damn near all the intimidation tactics there were, and had used them all at some point or other.

And with his abilities, he really didn't have to worry much.

"An empty threat. You can't get rid of her yourself for one reason or another, something is stopping you. The assassins still exist, but you have not gone to the guilds to find one of theirs. No, you risked a confrontation to come here, to an ancient and sealed tomb which could possibly have been a dead end or yielded nothing. You need me for some reason. Putting me back into the cage would just hinder you at this point."

He smirked, looking Rica dead in the eye.

"And you don't have the power to overwhelm me right now. Not quickly enough to seal me again."

It was a blunt statement, spoken with an assurance that was honestly disturbing.

"A lord that bows to another, huh... The standards of lordship must have waned during the centuries... But you are right. I am good at erasing people. And if that's what you sought after, then you found it."

He paused, thinking as a dagger appeared in his hand. It was a flick of his wrist that produced it, but there was absolutely no sign that he made any other move as a knife simply appeared in his palm and began to spin lazily around his fingers as he thought. While the knife spun, the elf himself wondered about this man who attempted to employ him. At first glance, Rica was pretty impressive. Powerful, menacing, and with the wit to match, he could prove to be a dangerous enemy. But he also had done the one thing that not even Zyth did, and that was bow to another while having the audacity to still call themselves a lord.

It was counter-intuitive and hypocritical. And Zyth naturally didn't like religious zealots.

But this provided to be a good opportunity. On one end, he finishes the mission successfully, and gets paid. On the other hand, he fails the mission but learns more about the Dragon-Born. For him, it was a win-win situation.

"The next list of questions is a little more important. Who is the target? What is my timetable? How much collateral damage am I expected to do? Does it matter if I am found out or not? Am I to leave a mark or leave nothing to show my passing? Am I to engage her and her allies openly to prove a point, or do you want it done quietly and with minimal fuss?"

Blake frowned again at the situation.

“...My quest is only of personal importance,” Blake finally said after a moment, turning to Didymus and Garnet, “If I allow it to stop me from aiding those in need, I am no better then those who do the evil. If you two also wish to try and aid this town, I will be glad to lend a hand.”

-Ankh-Morpork-

Carrot was quiet for a moment, then nodded.

“We were looking for a witch named Maghda. A warrior named Nanami came to find her. I believe she was defeated, but we haven't been able to locate Nanami. A dragon showed up, I'm honestly not sure how. The Watch, with the help of some other fire warrior managed to kill it. If you want more, I'm afraid you'll have to find this Nanami. If you want, I can bring you to the Commander. He might know more,” Carrot told her.

“Monsters, huh?” Galv said, thinking to himself. He grinned, then turned to the others.

“Well that's something we can help with,” Galv said, “I may not be a spring chicken, but I handle a monster. Elysia, want to come with me? I can still show you some pointers with our powers.”

Umbra looked rather shell-shocked that the existence of DRAGONS was confirmed.

Maybe... Maybe that's why his mother took time to tell him the tales. The tales of the powerful, intelligent, wise and old creatures that dragons were. Maybe she told him to warn him, to make sure he knew what he faced if or when he came upon one of the great, roaring entities that could fill the skies with fire and fighting whom was tantamount to suicide.

But...

He wanted to see it. Suddenly, it was as if a fire lit within him. He wanted to SEE a dragon, and not any dead corpse. He wanted to see a live, breathing, roaring beast for whom the weather was a toy, the sky a playground, the world a sandbox. To see with his own eyes the truth of what he was hearing.

"I dun know much about dis stuff, but dis Nanumi guy must be somethin' ta go out witch-huntin'... But dis dragon stuff... Ta t'ink dat it could be taken down in de first place is unbelievable! How did ye manage it?"

Rica chuckled softly. He looked towards Zyth and simply smirked, turning his back to the assassin. Normally that would be a rather poor decision… but Rica did not have to fear for his safety.

“Do not mistake my respectful nature as a sign of weakness. I have generously revived you and I offer you a great opportunity. You will kill the Dragonborn for me. I do not care how you do it… just get it done.”

Rica waved his hand, and an image of Nanami appeared.

“She is here. In the tunnels above us. Eradicate her.” Rica said, shaking his head. “Get it done now, and you will be greatly rewarded.”

[Avalon Border]

“Then let us find this cult and stop them!” Garnet said, frowning. “My mission is important, but we are here now… and if we can help these people, then we should do everything we can!”

[Cottage]

“Oh, no…” The old man shook his head. “You misunderstand me. There is little that can be done… I only tell you so that you will evade the woods and stay out of danger.”

[Ankh-Morpork]

Raven was silent as Carrot explained about the dragon incident.

“… Dragons are very ancient creatures. Some of them were noble and good… but others were terrible and deranged monsters. The idea that a Dragon has attacked…”

She knew what it meant… but she could not say anything to Umbra or Beast Boy. She dared not bring them into the wider problems… she dare not bring anyone else into that world…
