[Ankh-Morpork]

The Mindflayer hissed. It wanted nothing more than to step forward and finish its attack on Kyran… but Rica had stepped up to the demonic figure.

“Leave.” Rica commanded, in an ice cold voice. “Now.”

The Mindflayer paused, and then it slunk back and disappeared into the darkness.

Musashi, meanwhile, paused. He heard Elysia call this woman ‘mom’, and that… that worried him. But not as much as a freaking out Kyran did.

“Please Kyran, calm down! The monster’s gone, we’re safe now!”

Well there’s still the dragon overhead, but one thing at a time.

[Gondor

Garland stumbled back as he was smashed in the face with the pommel from Didymus’ sword. His helmet did shield him from part of the blow, but Didymus had swung strong and Garland was knocked off his game.

He stumbled and fell down to one knee, his ears ringing and his face stinging from the battering.

Garland was faltering; Didymus saw his chance. With a silent prayer, he brought one hand down, as some light shined from it, right into Garland's face! He attempted to hold Garland's head steady...

...as he brought his sword down with his other hand, attempting to drive the pommel into his helmet and, he hoped, deliver a solid enough blow to incapacitate Garland.

Garland was hit hard, and blinded by the light, and ultimately he fell to the ground and his armor clattered. He seemed to be quite unconscious!

Garnet rushed forward. “Don’t kill him!” She called to Didymus, Cid and Blake. “But… we should tie him up.”

"Relax, Lady Garnet..." Didymus said. "...I was fighting to incapacitate, not kill. I do think that we may have a difficult time caring for a prisoner...hopefully we can find a good way to get him off our hands soon."

I can't see what you're imagining
-Ankh-Morpork-

Kyran began to calm down when her mother appeared, her shadows beginning to disappear, breathing deeply until she was back to normal, pausing and looking to her mother.

“Ohhh...it happened again, didn't it? I'm sorry Mom...” Kyran said, then stiffened, seeing Kanna and Rica. She didn't know much about them either, like her twin Elysia, but her shadows seemed...scared even, of the two...

Galv hurried over to his daughters as well, frowning at Musashi, wondering who this guy was, but he had bigger things to worry about...

“Kyran, Elysia...you two need to get out of here. Find your sister, Joyce...and I guess Sage too,” Galv didn't hate Sage like Kanna hated him, but still wasn't overly fond of the young man, “And get out of here...You need to get far away from those two...”

Zadkiel leaped from the dragon's back, shooting fire to slow his fall, landing on the ground.

He took a deep breath, focusing.

Fire swirled around him, burning hot, but he seemed unaffected. He held up his hands, the fire burning into his palms now, pointed towards the dragon.

A massive burst of fire shot upwards in a giant spiral at the dragon!

Hammah moved forward, twisting around and shooting a blast of lightning from his fingers at the fireball!

-Sunderland: Graveyard-

“It was a knight, by the name of George,” Gallic answered truthfully with a shrug, “A very long time ago...”

He grinned at Arturia, “He was strong, I'll grant him that. But he still couldn't truly kill me...”

-Gondor-

“I suppose we can't just leave him under a tree...” Blake said, stepping forward as well, rubbing his arm, “But if he's not alone...”

He frowned, looking around, “Their might be a camp somewhere...”

[Ankh-Morpork]

Musashi was utterly confused as to what was happening and who most of these people were. Kyran and Elysia seemed to know them, and that was good enough for the spiky haired Musashi who lowered his sword, but did not put it away.

The Mindflayer had vanished at the command of Rica, and that made Musashi extremely suspicious.

“I hate to interrupt, but who is that man?” Musashi asked Galv and Melanie, pointing towards Rica.

Rica, meanwhile, simply watched his daughter and her family (and the foreign prince). He was curious as to where they would go… now that they knew Rica was around, would they flee? It didn’t really matter… Rica could find them wherever they went.

He then looked up at the skies. The Dragon was nowhere to be seen. Ankh-Morpork was not burning… Maghda had failed, as Rica had feared.

[…]

Zadkiel’s fire burst caught the Dragon’s right wing, and suddenly it burst into flames. The dragon roared out in pain and began to stumble. With its wing inflamed, it could not fly!

The dragon fell, crashing into a building and them plummeting into the streets below. In great pain, the dragon spewed flames all around the streets, burning anyone and anything near its head!

[…]

Hammah’s lightning blasted apart the fireball, and Maghda growled out in anger. She moved her hand up, gathering another powerful ball of swirling magic above her head.

“I shall obliterate you! You shall all burn and suffer for opposing the Dark Lord!” Maghda cried out.

And suddenly Nanami darted forward. Her sword slashed, and Maghda’s remaining arm was cut apart. She dropped the ball of magic – on her own head! Maghda screamed and hit the ground as her body was consumed with black flames.

[Sunderland: Graveyard]

Arturia’s eyes widened. A Knight named George? Surely he could not mean…

“Saint George? Impossible… simply impossible!” Arturia recalled her days of youth, when she grew up and orphan. She worked as a humble servant at one of the Churches where the Paladins made their base. She often heard stories of old… one of them was of Saint George, and how he had battled a terrible and evil being…

“I cannot let you leave.” Arturia said to Gallic, determination renewed in her mind.

[Gondor]

“Thank you.” Garnet said to Didymus. She frowned, and lowered her gaze. “I know… he is our enemy, and it is clear he will not stop pursuing us… but he is still a Knight of Alexandria. Were I to condone killing him, I would be the very traitor he labels me.”

While Garnet firmly believed she was doing the right thing by seeking out Avalon’s King, and getting aid from the Paladins; she had no intention of betraying her nation or hurting Alexandria’s soldiers or knights.

Cid was silent. He was watching Garland, and suddenly he moved down and pulled the helmet from Garland’s head.

A strange and intricate symbol was tattooed on Garland’s forehead.

Cid’s eyes widened, and he stepped back.

“… I see. Tyrael was right… this is the work of the Dark Lord, and his master.”

Garnet paused, stepping forward. “What do you mean? I have never heard of the Dark Lord serving a master.”

Cid shook his head. “We should not speak of these things here. We are unsafe in these woods. Come, let us return to Avalon… we are the near the border. There is an outpost not far from here, used to keep watch for Thalmor spies who would use Gondor’s border to cross into Avalon. We shall go there.”

He sheathed his sword. “Tie Garland’s hands and feet, and cast his sword down into the nearby river, and leave him. We have no means to transport him, and I dare not take him as a prisoner to the outpost anyway, for I worry that is exactly what he wants.”

“They're my parents-in-law,” Galv frowned, “We don't get along.”

Understatement of the century.

He looked towards Rica and Kanna. He did not want his kids caught up in all this. He always hoped they could have normal lives, or at least as normal as possible, considering their origins.

“Elysia...” Galv said, turning to his daughter, “I need to talk with you for a moment, alone...”

The dragon was wounded, bursting flames everywhere, Zadkiel stepping forward, letting the flames burn around him, his own fire protecting him.

“I can not truly kill you, dragon, for I am not Dragonborn...” Zadkiel said, “But I can not allow you to destroy any more.”

“Then allow me...”

A figure with long black hair and green eyes appeared, leaping from a building, directly into the flames. He grinned, green fire burning in his hands.

Su Grah Dun!” the man declared, then leaped forward. He pulled out two daggers, swinging them wildly at the dragon.

With a flurry of strikes, the dragon roared one final roar, dying.

The man laughed stepping back as the dragon pitched wildly, it's life force draining, swirling into the man who held his hands up, breathing deeply, the dragon becoming nothing but bones. Which would probably, within the hour, be taken and sold across the city, as that's how Ankh-Morpork rolls.

“You...you are...Dragonborn as well...” Zadkiel said, red eyes wide, “Who are you?”

The man smiled, turning to Zadkiel. “I am Chase Young...And you...are inconsequential...”

“Ouch,” Hammah said as Maghda burned from her own dark magic, “That's gotta hurt.”

Jimi nodded, then glanced over to Nanami, walking over to her and holding out his hand.

“Name's Jimi, and that's my brother, Hammah,” Jimi said, introducing himself, “So...what the heck is happening around here? I have the feeling you know more then me.”

-Sunderland: Graveyard-

Samuel frowned.

“George...Met a guy who said he was a knight, named George once...” he said, frowning, “He was an old guy though...looked it at least...”

Gallic laughed, holding his head back as he stared at Arturia.

“If you truly believe me, King of Knights, then attack! I will show you my true power!” Gallic declared.

-Gondor-

Blake frowned as he looked at the symbol, bending down to get a better look.

“I...might be able to mask him from those he serves,” Blake said quietly, “I am not strong enough to expel the darkness completely, but it might help...”

He murmured softly, focusing as his own shadows, swirling around the symbol.

There was something in the shadows, something...off about them. Nothing evil, but like something hidden, trying to get to the surface but just couldn't...

[Ankh-Morpork]

Musashi frowned. Wonderful… so these people were Elysia and Kyran’s grandparents? That… that was unfortunate.

“Well… the reason I ask is that that dark haired guy just banished the creature that was trying to kill us, as if it worked for him.” Musashi pointed out Rica, once more. “So I’m a little concerned.”

[…]

Nanami put her sword away, her eyes on Maghda’s twitching, burning corpse. Then, she turned to Jimi and Hammah.

“I am Nanami. I’ve been tracking that witch, Maghda, all across Eptina. She is responsible for atrocities from Hammerfall to Avalon. I’ve sought her head for months…”

Nanami shook her head. Then suddenly she stopped as she felt… a presence. A Dragon had just died, and its power… had been absorbed by someone else!

“Impossible… another Dragonborn?”

[Sunderland: Graveyard]

Arturia did not hesitate. Suddenly she jumped forward and swung her invisible sword!

[Gondor]

“Stop!”

Cid grabbed Blake’s hand and pulled him back, away from Garland. “Do not agitate the seal! The last thing we need is to attract the minions of Garland’s twisted master.”

"I thank you for your help..." Didymus said as Blake moved and began to call on his shadows..."...but attempting to address this problem with more darkness...is not going to help."

He figured that was, perhaps, the best way to attempt to stop further shadow-calling.

He looked around.

"I didn't say we should kill him, but certainly we can't just leave him here. This is a high-ranking enemy combatant deep, perhaps, in darkness' council. We may NEVER get an opportunity like this again."

He listened more to what was said. "Of course this "dark lord" served a master, whether he knew it or not...but I get the feeling you're referring to something besides that, Elder..." Didymus said.

"Still, can't we put him in the cart? Why would he WANT us to capture him? We can send him off one way, and Lady Garnet another, when we reach the outpost, if that's the issue...if they expect us, surely this won't be anything TOO far-fetched for them?"

Of course, he would do as Cid commanded, but he was trying at least to suggest what he thought was a more reasonable path first, at least present an option...

He remained silent as Cid interceded with Blake, but spoke shortly thereafter.

"Then perhaps we can purge the seal-as perhaps we should if we can take him captive. And when any pursuers arrive, even IF that somehow alerts them, we will be long gone from here..."

“Explanations later, I need to talk to my daughter here first,” Galv said to Musashi, frowning, “And find out what you were doing with them...”

Kyran leaned against Musashi now, closing her eyes and breathing deeply.

“Mom and my grandparents there can control the shadows and darkness like I can...” Kyran said, “But they're better at it...so's my older brother...”

“Dragonborn? Like in the stories?” Hammah piped up, “Ohhh, now this is really interesting.”

Smashing through a wall, sent there by a Shout was Zadkiel, hitting the wall hard and slumping down, gritting his teeth and fighting from pain.

“You...must...run...” Zadkiel said, before passing out.

“Oh come now...shouldn't we stay and talk? So rare you can really talk with another Dovahkin...” Chase Young smirked, stepping forward now. “Care to say a few words, Nanami?”

-Sunderland: Graveyard-

Arturia's invisible sword was stopped by Gallic, using his telekinesis to clash with the sword, holding his hand up to focus his power.

“Fus Ro Dah!” Gallic bellowed, sending a wave of force at Arturia now!

-Gondor-

Blake paused, then stopped, nodding slightly and stepping back.

“Sorry...I believed I could do something since my shadows...” he paused, realizing what he was about to say, then frowned, “That is, I am in control of it...”

He glanced to Garland, “And I do not believe darkness is inherently evil. It attracts those of evil because the light reveals the monsters they truly are, while in the dark they do not have to face themselves...”

Blake sighed, looking at the company, which was mostly made of Paladins, “That is, it's my personal belief...I apologizing for intruding...”

[Gondor]

Cid paused at Didymus’ urging, and the younger Paladin’s words rang true. They may not get another opportunity to capture Garland, and the marking on his forehead meant that he was even more dangerous than Cid had originally believed.

“… Yes. You are right, Didymus. Forgive me, I thought only of the immediate mission, and not the long-term.” Cid reached down and bound Garland’s hands and feet with strong rope.

“However,” Cid then looked back up at Didymus, Garnet and Blake. “I shall not take Garland to Avalon. So long as that mark is burned upon his brow, he shall be a beacon to things far worse… and it would be too dangerous to transport he and Garnet together.”

Cid sighed, and then made a decision. “I have friends among the Rangers. One of their camps should be close by. I shall take Garland there, and they can help me transport him to a suitable prison.”

The elder Paladin stepped over to Didymus. “You must complete our task without me. Take Garnet to Camelot. I trust Arturia’s dreams… and after seeing Tyrael intercede on our behalf, I am doubly convinced that our mission is vital.”

Cid clapped Didymus on the shoulder. “I entrust the Princess to you. God willing I shall rejoin you at the Outpost, but do not wait for me.”

He then looked over to Blake. “All men can choose what to believe, but know this… there is a difference between the shadows and the true, all-consuming darkness. There is true evil, and it lurks in the dark places. Look not upon it, and speak not its name… or be lost to it.”

Cid could have stayed and explained… while he was most known for his warrior’s prowess, he had given a sermon or two in his day. Yet he felt he must transport Garland away as soon as possible.

“Go! Protect Garnet, Didymus. You must do this. And you, Blake… if you accompany them to the Outpost, you shall be compensated for your help.”

[Sundland: Graveyard]

Arturia’s eyes widened as Gallic spoke in the Dragontongue. She did not have time to dodge it, so she held up her sword and as the shout came there was a blinding light and the release of air!

Posted Image

Arturia was thrown back, but the air managed to protect her from the shout. She looked up at Gallic and narrowed her eyes.

“Dragonborn? Fascinating…”

[Ankh-Morpork]

Musashi coughed, and decided it was better to be quiet… but then Kyran leaned against him and he put his arm around her for support.

“I think you did a great job.” Musashi said with a smile. “But that creature… I doubt there are many people that could have fought it.”

Which is why Musashi was so worried about Rica.

[…]

Nanami’s eyes widened as Zadkiel hit the wall and fell. He looked like he was half-dead, and Nanami immediately drew her sword once more and spun around to see Chase Young!

“Dovahkin?” Nanami repeated the word and her eyes narrowed dangerously. “Wait… I know you. You were with the Graybeards before, but… you are not… are you?”

Nanami was aware of a handful of Dragonborn across the country… but she had not known that Chase was among them. “What are you doing here?”

Didymus was quiet as Cid spoke, though much of what he said...he was either unsure about, or it simply concerned him.

"I'm not sure about the shadows..." he said. "...but on the subject of Garland, can't we see if the symbol on Garland's head be cleansed off?"

He was unsure about a lot these days, it seemed.

He was glad that Cid was taking Garland into custody, though the concept that this idea initially escaped an elder disturbed him...

He simply nodded when Cid clapped him on the shoulder, and spoke when he was done.

"Well...who gets the cart, then?"

That was an important detail.

“Ohhh...it happened again, didn't it? I'm sorry Mom...”

"It's okay darling" Melanie said softly, still holding the girl tightly until she was sure the shadows had been absorbed into her own palms.

“Kyran, Elysia...you two need to get out of here. Find your sister, Joyce...and I guess Sage too,”

Elysia frowned, knowing their dad was trying to keep them safe...But also out of the action. It was always rather bothersome.

“Elysia...I need to talk with you for a moment, alone...”

Elysia frowned, but gave a nod. "Uh yeah..Of course dad" she said, heading over to the man.

Musashi stayed near Kyran and Melanie, and he felt a bit awkward. He didn’t know what to say to Kyran in front of her mother, but it seemed like she was a little safer at the moment.

“Listen, maybe we should get out of the streets. I think something is still going on.” Musashi looked up at the stormclouds the dragon had created.

[Gondor]

“Garland has given himself entirely to the Darkness. We could not cleanse this without changing his mind. He is not possessed, he WILLINGLY has given himself to this evil.”

Cid shook his head. “You have the cart. Taking Garnet to the King is our top priority. The King’s dreams are a message from God. Our mission is to fulfill this dream. Now, hurry and go! I shall be fine on foot, it is not far.”

Didymus nodded as Cid spoke. He had heard of forceful cleansing of things like this, sometimes they were necessary, but this wasn't a time to get into a discussion of that.

"Yes, Elder." he said. "We shall take the cart, then. May He be with us. Lady Garnet, come along, if you please..." he said, climbing into the cart/positioning himself so as to help Garnet in.
