Didymus was...disappointed...that these...things...only seemed to fall back as he struck at them, but it was better than at least one alternative...

He listened quietly, still wary, as Cid and this newcomer spoke.

Special maidens and ancient dark leaders and creatures of shadow resistant to our strikes...I...don't like this. Not one bit...

Though he did find it fascinating that appearently the old tales about dragon-powers obliterating this "dark lord" were allegedly false, he considered that many may not necessarily have said that as much as simply that dragon-powers stopped him...and would do so again.

"Wait a moment." he said.

"I...thank you for the help, but...who or what are you?"

Angua nodded, “Right...But if you want to find this guy, then we'll have to deal with Maghda quicker then usual. I can pick up his scent now, but I'll lose it if we don't trail it in a couple hours...”

She sighed, shaking her head, “But you're right, this Maghda is the bigger threat...”

Museum

Kyran paused, then smiled brightly, “Oh, I'm not mad or anything! It's romantic! Besides, there's always that third person who's with one of them until they figure it out! Ohhh, that might be fun...”

Elysia sighed, face palming, glancing towards Musashi.

“Are you really sure you want to keep dating her? You could just leave. And go very far away,” Elysia suggested.

-Sunderland-

Samuel frowned, covered in Gluttony's spit now.

“I really need a shower,” Samuel frowned, then looked up to Gluttony, “As for why you can't eat me, same reason you can't pierce me or slice me with a weapon.”

He turned back, waving towards Arturia, “Don't worry about hurting me, even if you hit me! I can handle myself!”

-Vale-

Shop

“Heh, don't worry, you'll be glad I came along!” Beast Boy said, grinning and trying to look heroic, and probably failing miserably. “You won't regret it one bit! Heck, you'll probably ask me to hang around after we get to Ankh-Morpork too, I'm just that awesome.”

[Ankh-Morpork]

[Streets]

Nanami sighed. Another Dragonborn was a much bigger personal threat to Nanami than Maghda was… but Maghda posed a bigger threat to the city. Nanami might have been cold, but she wasn’t so cold that she could let thousands of people burn for her own personal reasons.

“… I appreciate the offer, but we need to focus on Maghda. The nice thing about someone trying to kill me is I know I’ll get another chance to find them.”

[Musesum]

Musashi blinked. Kyran was a bit odd… and Elysia seemed the grumpy sort. For some reason, Musashi was a bit afraid of the grumpy girls.

“I’m not the sort to just leave. Besides, I promised a fun night out, and that’s what we’ll have! So, let’s go and have some fun!”

[Sunderland]

Gluttony was getting angry. He wanted to eat this man. After a moment, the creature simply smiled.

“Okay… then I’ll swallow you.” Gluttony grinned. Suddenly he unhinged his jaw, making his mouth wider, and he moved towards Samuel again – this time intent on swallowing him whole.

While it wouldn’t kill Samuel, it would imprison him in Gluttony’s stomach for all of eternity… or until he faced a fate worse than death.

Arturia, however, brought up her invisible sword and slashed it. Suddenly there was a massive burst of energy which hit Gluttony, throwing him back and ripping him apart.

[Gondor]

The mysterious stranger simply shook his head.

“I am the one who stands against the greater darkness.” He replied. “I am Justice. I have long aided the path of humanity, a Servant from Above. The form I take now, I take because my true form is needed elsewhere. I come as a messenger today, that is all.”

[Vale]

[Shop]

Raven simply blinked.

“I doubt it.” Raven replied, and she turned and started walking out the door.

Didymus was quiet as the figure answered, but his mind was processing his claims and forming his own opinions...and he remained quiet.

But his alertness and wariness was still there. His sword was still in his hand, and he still stood nearby Garnet so as to protect her...

Streets

Angua sighed, nodding, “I see. Let's go then. We'll find a lead.”

She turned back to Carrot, waving towards the cop, “Carrot! We need to find another lead.”

Carrot nodded, pausing as he thought.

“We'll go talk to the Beggars' Guild,” Carrot suggested, “They see a lot. Most people don't notice them.”

Museum

“Okay then!” Kyran smiled. She didn't seem the least bit bothered by anything right now, taking Musashi's arm. She paused, glancing around, then smiled.

“Ohhh, I know what would be fun,” Kyran said, grinning, closing her eyes and focusing. Elysia paused, realizing what her sister was doing just a little too late.

Kyran and Musashi would suddenly disappear into the shadows!

“...Darn it Kyran...uuuugh...” Elysia said, rubbing her forehead.

Other Streets

A few streets away, Kyran Musashi would come out from the shadows, Musashi probably very cold now, though Kyran seemed fine.

She smiled brightly though, “Why don't we look for that evil guy you're after! It'll be mystery, intrigue, lots of fun!”

-Sunderland-

Samuel wasn't too worried about Gluttony...then again he assumed he could just tear his way out of Gluttony's stomach. Not pleasant, but he had done something like that in the past. Long story, don't ask.

Saber Arturia used her slash, taking out a chunk of Gluttony, Samuel feeling the wind push him back.

He whistled lowly, “Impressive!”

Samuel stepped away from Gluttony now, thinking the creature was dead, “We better be careful, there might be more...”

-Vale-

Beast Boy frowned, then hurried after Raven, picking up his small pack on the way.

“Wait for me!”

“Another Guild? Well, I supposed Beggar’s would be easier to deal with than Assassin’s.” Nanami sighed, rubbing her forehead. This was getting them nowhere…

“For Maghda’s spell to work, she would need to etch runes all over the city. They’d be small, and probably go unnoticed by most people. Just little scratches on the walls, or streets… maybe drawn on the back of posters plastered on walls…”

Nanami shook her head. “She’ll have the cultists out and etching the runes all over. If we can find someone who’s seen the runes, we might have our lead. You think the Beggar’s might have noticed anything?”

[Other Streets]

Musashi gasped as he and Kyran suddenly appeared in the streets. He quickly shivered, clutching his shoulders from the cold. His entire insides felt frozen, and it reminded him of the time he had been up near the border with the Dark Lands.

“Yeeeeeeeesh,” Musashi shivered. “That is one cool ability, but I think my blood might be frozen.”

When she mentioned her plan, with a big bright smile, Musashi could only blink.

“… No. I’m sorry Kyran, I appreciate the offer, but the person I’m after is extremely dangerous. He had skills enough to sneak into a Wutainese Palace, kill my guards, curse me and escape the country without anyone getting a look at his face. I don’t want to drag you into the danger.”

[Sunderland]

Arturia’s eyes were narrowed as she looked at the massive, broken carcass of Gluttony. She had no idea what this creature was, but something about it really bothered her.

“It ate my sword…” Gawain frowned, looking down at the handle of his sword; the blade was gone.

“We need to get to the bottom of all of this… which means we need to make haste to the Eizenbern Mansion.” Arturia commanded.

[Vale]

Raven did wait, but only because she didn’t want to get too far ahead of Umbra. Right now he was a much bigger concern than Beast Boy, since Umbra had saved her life already.

[Gondor]

Cid paused, his eyes widened… and then a smile crossed his aged face.

“… I see. I understand now. It’s been a long time… Tyrael.”

Tyrael nodded, and put away his sword. “I have stood vigilant the entire time, my friend. I still do… but the time has not yet come for my true form to return to your world.”

Cid sighed, rubbing his neck. “But you have come… then everything is true. Arturia’s dreams, the rumors of Brahne’s consorting with darkness… and now the Shades… things are worse than we fear, aren’t they?”

“… It is hard to say.” Tyrael replied, his voice sounded strained. “The threat is graver than you believe, but hope burns brighter than ever. This day is only the beginning. There will be many struggles and hardships before you… but you can overcome them.”

Garnet was silent, leaning against Didymus. She was confused, but she did not feel afraid.

While Raven and Beast Boy talked, bickered hissed and cowered, Umbra was barely paying attention to them. Instead, he focused on getting everything he needed from the shop. Most of his stock had been depleted by his previous adventures, and he needed some things.

Rope, twine, eating utensils, oil for his lantern, and all sorts of things made it into his pack, endlessly being packed and hoarded away.

Once he grabbed everything and left payment on the counter top (severely depleting his reserves of ready money), he finally turned about just as Raven was making the comment about having the green kid carry his own things.

"Aww, don' be like dat! I ain't got nothin' 'gainst carrying his stuff or yers. Sure, it'd be nice if he could handle himself in a fight, but dat's pretty much it. I ain't got no big requirements fer him ta stay. 'sides, it'd be best if we were all pals here! Jus' a lot more fun ta travel wid people who ain't got sour faces."

Grinning widely, Umbra gave a respectful not to the shopkeeper, slung his massive maul over his shoulder and followed Raven.

"But de Raven Girl's right too, Green Kid. Ye best be able ta handle yerself, 'cause I ain't gonna be dere all de time at yer back."

Sunderland

Sai was uncharacteristically quiet for a little while as they rode silently into Sunderland, his senses telling him that this place was home to things that were beyond normal. He didn't need to have everybody else point out that this place was a ghost town, and he didn't really need any warning either. It was times like these when his magic sang that he knew something was wrong.

And it twisted inside of him like a living beast. Yeah, something was DEFINITELY not right with this place.

When the fat guy came out of hiding and assaulted Samuel, Sai jumped up from the saddle of his horse and it vanished right underneath him. He landed a second later, snagging the statuette from mid-air as he did, throwing it behind him into his pocket, before pulling out a blade and waiting.

He didn't do anything though. His senses trained on Gluttony, but that thing wasn't nearly as much threat as he sensed from... Somewhere. And he could not pinpoint where his danger senses were ringing abnormally. That had him on guard the moment he touched the ground, and he tensed, ready for action.

Besides, Samuel had it handled.

But he HAD to chuckle in amusement when Gawain had his sword eaten. That was possibly the most hilarious thing he had seen all day, and he couldn't help but snort in laughter. Nothing was attacking for now, so he relaxed just enough so it looked like he was still relaxed, but inside he was ready to move at any second.

Something was REALLY wrong with this place.

"You know, knight, I never expected to have such entertainment here. Aren't swordsmen supposed to care for their blades and NOT get them eaten by some fat guy with insane digestive properties?"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ankh-Morpork

"Such magic normally attracts strange phenomena, does it not? If so, perhaps we could also seek rumors and tales of things that should not be, mysteries that arose recently, ones beyond the scope of normal Ankh-Morpork operation?"

Dyne was standing. Right there. Next to Nanami. A fraction of a second earlier he wasn't there or even anywhere in sight, and then he was just there without warning. How he managed to sneak up on everybody with his ringing staff and rustling cloth?

Well, even a monkey needs to keep its secrets.

"My apologies. I seem to have ended up lost in the crowds again. The city is not the place for a monkey to live."

Didymus was surprised, but was quiet as Garnet leaned on him...

...and was quiet, quietly praying, sword STILL out as Cid and this figure talked.

He didn't know what to make of it all...arguements could be made for a number of points...the most probable one was that the stranger was a friend in the long run, but he wasn't entirely convinced of it...

Still, he made no moves to threaten, simply stood, quiet, prayerful, vigilant...

[Streets]

Nanami had to raise an eyebrow as Dyne appeared. She didn’t like being sneaked up on, and her first instinct was to stab – but fortunately for Dyne, she resisted that instinct.

"Such magic normally attracts strange phenomena, does it not? If so, perhaps we could also seek rumors and tales of things that should not be, mysteries that arose recently, ones beyond the scope of normal Ankh-Morpork operation?"

“This is Ankh-Morpork.” Nanami replied, shaking his head. “Short of a Dragon swooping down and landing on the Patrician’s seat, I don’t think you can sift the truly strange from the everyday occurrences.”

Nanami had been to Ankh-Morpork before, and she had heard rumors as well.

[Sunderland]

Gawain glared at Sai’s sarcastic tongue and would have spoke up – but before he could speak, the fallen creature stirred.

Gluttony stood back up, and its wounds healed. The creature was fully recovered in a matter of seconds, and once again drooling.

“That wasn’t nice…” Gluttony pouted at Arturia.

“What manner of beast is this?” Arturia gasped.

[Gondor]

Tyrael paused, and turned his eyes towards Didymus and Garnet. Up until now, he had been speaking to Cid, but now he approached them. There was no hostility in his movements as he did.

“You need not be so worried, Paladin. I am not your enemy. I have been an ally of your Order since its inception. Could I appear to you as I truly am, you would know that without doubt.”

Tyrael now turned and looked to Garnet. “Princess of Alexandria… know that you have a decision to make in the future. One that will affect your people, and perhaps all people on Eptina.”

Garnet frowned. “What decision?”

Tyrael shook his head. “You are not yet ready to know. There is much you must see and experience before you will be ready to make this decision.”

[Vale]

[Shop]

Raven blinked and looked over to Umbra as he spoke up. He seemed like such a friendly person. Raven wasn’t used to being around friendly people… the only people in her life were terrible people.

“I don’t care if he stays with us or not, but we need to go. I don’t want to stay in Alexandria for even a minute longer than necessary.”

Dyne blinked, shaking his head in wonder.

"Large cities are such amazing things..."

It was no wonder he felt hopelessly lost. Most of the time, he could be found deep in the woods, hiking on mountaintops and generally visiting the natural world, as much a part of it as it was a part of him. Magic sang within him and around him, and living things prospered and grew. But in the city...

In the city, he was a lost duckling, his sense of direction flipped about relentlessly, and he tended to lose himself in the crowded streets, busy places and endless faces. This was no different.

And besides that, the largest populated place before this that Dyne had ever visited was one of the border cities in the land of the elves, when he had found something he was seeking for a long time. He almost reflexively touched his left gauntlet, making sure it was still there.

"Then I shall let you make the decision, Lady Crow. The monkey is not knowledgeable of cities, for the trees, vines, bananas and company is all the monkey needs to live happily. The crow, however, finds itself much more commonly amongst the cities of man..."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunderland

Sai watched the obese man rise from the dead, literally restructuring itself in front of his eyes, and couldn't help but get himself pumped up. An enemy that wouldn't just simply die! This was either going to be a boring fight, or something that could be a LOT of fun to participate in. Problem was, Samuel, Arturia and Gawain already had it handled, and they focused on the creature.

He, however, was watching their backs. Not because he was going to stab them in said backs, but because he knew that this obese thing was NOT the only thing that was here. It couldn't be. Even Zeromus had come with that blue-cloaked mage, and wasn't alone.

And bad guys traveled in packs.

"Beast? Nah, that would mean that this thing isn't intelligent, but feral instead. No, it speaks, it desires and is capable of bringing itself back. It's not a beast, it's a monster of some sort. Human or not, everyone can be a monster if they so choose."

Whipping his arm back, he brought another blade into existence from his pocket, this one of a rather simple construction, but one that clearly had the "hum" of faint magic about it. It wasn't nearly close to anything Arturia's blade, the two sword on his back or any other similarly famous/infamous weapon, but it certainly was a sharp and durable blade, and that was all that was needed.

"Catch, Knight! Use this for now!"

The sword left his hand in an arching throw, bearing past Gawain, and Sai fully expected the knight to catch it by the hilt as the elf forgot about the blade and the man, again tuning his senses into the surroundings.

Umbra nodded quickly, his bobbing head looking almost comical at the exuberance of the action.

"I get ya. I wouldn't wanna stay near a place dat's got so many bad memories either. Let's be off to Ankh-Morpork, den! Always wanted ta see de place!"

And pumped up by the prospect of grand adventure, Umbra stepped out of the shop, his grin wide and eyes shining in anticipation.

As they walked, he finally decided to ask the next question on his mind.

"So, Green Kid! Where ya from? Why de green? Why're ye lookin' for people ta travel wid?"

“Actually...” Angua said, thinking it over, “We might be able to track them down with their magic. Magic is common in Ankh-Morpork, but dark magic, the kind this Maghda is using, isn't. One or two of the wizards at the University might dabble with it, but the Archchancellor stomped out most of that.”

And she meant that almost literally. Ridcully was a very hands on man.

Carrot scratched his chin now, “Then we should split up again. Can either of you two sense dark magic? You and Angua can follow up there, and whoever else can come with me to talk to Molly.”

“Molly's the leader of the Beggar's Guild,” Angua supplied.

Other Streets

Kyran paused, then shook her head, “But you'll be worried, in the back of your mind! You can't have a good time when your assassin is running around free, and a time on your head! Besides, it'll be fun, and I can handle myself.”

Shadows moved around Kyran again, the red headed girl grinning, “And besides, even if we run into something dangerous, I'm sure my sister Elysia will show up and beat up whoever's being bad!”

Kyran knows this from personal experience.

-Sunderland-

“Well that's not usual,” Samuel said, as Gluttony reformed, back to normal, or at least normal for Gluttony.

He took a couple steps away from the creature, frowning. He was use to fighting people whose bones stayed broke, whose wounds took time and effort to heal. Someone who could heal like this...

“Hey, anyone think they can handle this guy better? I'm not really equipped for a fight like this. And I'm already covered in this guy's spit,” Samuel frowned.

It was a decrypted building. No one liked going near it. It gave people chills, it was said it was haunted.

Inside was an old stone casket, heavy and durable.

Something moved...ever so slightly...sensing...

-Vale-

Beast Boy's face fell when Umbra asked him where he was from, and why he was green.

“Well I wanted to travel with someone! It's lonely traveling by yourself,” Beast Boy said, making a point to ignore those first two questions. “And you two seem friendly!”

Or rather they seemed odd enough that they wouldn't be off put by his unusual appearance.

Didymus HAD relaxed a bit, just a bit, concerning Tyrael, when Cid greeted him so fondly. For all his differences with Cid, he respected him as an Elder who truly wanted the best for faith and Order.

Nonetheless, Tyrael's words words did not put Didymus at ease, and he still remained alert, even if slightly more relaxed, as Tyrael spoke. Many thoughts and prayers buzzed through his head, and he was still alert as Tyrael spoke to Garnet.

He wondered why this figure was speaking in so many riddles and hinting statements that did not reveal their own points, but...he remained quiet.

Besides, he DID say that Garnet wasn't ready to know, so he gave a reason for just hinting at what SHE would have to decide, at least...

[Streets]

Nanami blinked at everything Dyne had to say. The way he spoke was strange, and she wasn’t sure if his nickname was one she liked, but she decided not to speak up. Instead she turned her attention to Angua.

“I can sense it. I’ve tracked down practitioners of Dark Rituals before.”

[Other Streets]

Musashi paused, rubbing the back of his neck. He didn’t want to get Kyran into trouble or expose her to danger… but she seemed pretty confident, and in the back of his head Musashi knew it was better to try to go after the assassin than to spend all his time trying to make out with her.

“Well… okay. If you’re sure, then we should go looking.”

[Sunderland]

Gluttony was now healed, and he seemed to be whining. “You hurt me! How dare you! Now I’m even hungrier…”

Arturia listened as Sai and Samuel spoke, but she soon shook her head. There was a burning intensity in her eyes, and suddenly she spoke in a commanding, authoritative voice.

“Whatever witchcraft is at work here, we need to find a way to stop it.”

[Vale]

“Fine, you can come with us, at least for now. We’re heading to Ankh-Morpork.” Raven said, shaking her head. “But we can discuss these questions on the way. I really want to be on the road as soon as possible…”

Raven sounded paranoid, but she wanted to get far away from Alexandria.

[Gondor]

Tyrael paused, looking around the forest. Then he turned back to Cid.

“You should press on. The Shades will not follow you until at least tomorrow night. Go with God, and you shall be protected. I must go.”

“Then I'll head off with Nanami again,” Angua said, then paused, “I think we should swing by the Yard and pick up Detrius. He'd be useful if we run into something like that Butcher again...”

“Then it looks like it's you and me,” Carrot said to Dyne, nodding towards the man, “I am Captain Carrot Ironfounderrson, Ankh-Morpork City Watch.”

Other Streets

“I am sure!” Kyran smiled brightly, “Now where should we start first? Maybe the Assassins' Guild...”

Kyran didn't even think it was a bad idea to just walk to the Assassins' Guild and ask about Musashi's killer.

-Sunderland-

“Unless I can punch it, I don't really have the ability to stop magic from working...” Samuel frowned, looking towards the others, “But this feeling in the air...It's familiar. I'm pretty sure I know what it is...”

Cold iron...He could almost feel it...

-Vale-

Beast Boy walked by Raven, though didn't get too close, afraid that she'd lash out at him.

Considering he didn't want to talk about his past, he wasn't going to ask about theirs.

“So...why are you heading to Ankh-Morpork?” Beast Boy asked, “Sight seeing? Relatives?”

“If you want to.” Nanami replied to Angua. She wasn’t too concerned about running into another Butcher Demon. Nanami had fought things much worse than the Butcher, although she hoped to never repeat such a feat.

“I just hope we get a solid lead soon…”

[Other Streets]

Musashi paused. Simply walking into the Assassin’s Guild and asking questions? It seemed dangerous, stupid and ill-advised.

… Well, this is Musashi, so naturally…

“That works for me.” Musashi shrugged. “Let’s go!”

[Sunderland]

Gluttony charged forward, and Arturia stabbed the beast in the belly. Gluttony shrieked in pain from her invisible sword and stumbled back, clutching its wound.

“It burns…” Gluttony growled.

Gawain frowned. “Then go! I’ll hold this beast off.”

Arturia shook her head. “I shall not leave you behind.”

“Go! I’ll be fine.” Gawain called.

[Outside Vale]

Raven shook her head. She wasn’t the talkative type, having spent most of her life chained in a dark, dank dungeon near Alexandria.

“… I’m looking for information.” Raven explained, although it was a pretty poor explanation.
