[Ankh-Morpork]

[Museum]

Musashi shook his head. He didn’t need Elysia to threaten him to keep him from wanting to involve Kyran in his revenge affairs.

“It’s not necessarily revenge, as much as it is I don’t want to die.” Musashi admitted, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. “See… I was cursed by a mysterious mage. It’s a death curse… I have to kill the Mage who cursed me before midnight on my twenty first birthday, or else… well, I’ll die.”

The boy shrugged. “So… yeah.”

[Rooftops]

Nanami paused for a moment, considering her options.

“I have no intention of breaking the laws of your city if I can help it; but if we do not stop Maghda before she completes her rituals, there won’t be a City for the Watch to watch.”

The idea that Maghda could destroy such a large – and crazy – city seemed impossible, but Nanami had tracked the demonic witch for over a year, and had seen the unprecedented level of death and destruction Maghda was capable of.

“If Vimes is our quickest bet, then we should take haste and find him!”

[Gondor]

[Crater]

Garnet looked panicked. The Shades were following them and the hissing grew louder. They clattered their black swords against their dark steeds, as if trying to antagonize the three in the wagon.

Cid, however, seemed remarkably calm. His hand was on the hilt of his sword, but he did not draw it. Instead his eyes were drawn towards the crater. A soft light was emanating from it, and it was repelling the Shades.

“There is little doubt in my mind, if this light repels these infernal creatures, then its source can only be our ally! Into the crater!”

[Vale]

[Shop]

Raven wasn’t sure about taking someone else along on her journey, but then, she supposed she’d had little reason to trust Umbra when she first reached out to him.

“… As long as you don’t get in the way.” Raven decided, shrugging her shoulders.

[Ruins]

Felix rushed out, as did the others, and just as they exited the old chamber the entire ruins started to collapse around them. Felix ran as fast as he could, panting as a cloud of dust kicked up from the destruction behind them.

“… Does anybody have any idea what that was all about?” Felix asked with a frown. The fate of Psynergy? Wise Ones? The Great War? It was all so confusing, and Felix was left shaken.

Then his face fell. “We should probably get back… I’m sure everyone will have heard the explosions and they’re probably worried.”

[Avalon]

[Sunderland]

It took nearly an hour for the horses to reach the sleepy village of Sunderland from Camelot Castle. The village itself was quaint, and uneventful. It was always peaceful, but as the horses stepped through the village, a frown crossed Arturia’s face.

“Sunderland has never been a particularly populated village, but I have never seen it so empty looking…”

She frowned. “I lived here when I was younger. This… this isn’t right.”

“There is little doubt in my mind, if this light repels these infernal creatures, then its source can only be our ally! Into the crater!”

Didymus was quiet, but obliged, guiding the horses in.

He was willing to entertain the prospect that this was an ALLY, at least temporarily, but he still was musing over the possibilities of false lights, how the creatures sneaked up on them, and more.

Still, again, he followed orders, reigns in one hand, sword in the other, wary, praying silently...

“Oh my, that's so horrible!” Kyran said, hands to her mouth, looking worried, “Well, Elysia here is a cop! I bet we can help you find this horrible mage and free you from the curse!”

Elysia's eye twitched, clearly not wanting to help Musashi.

Angua nodded, then paused, sniffing the air, “We won't need Vimes now...”

She turned around, “Captain.”

A shock of red hair appeared, and Captain Carrot pulled himself up unto the roof, nodding to Angua, “Good to see you Sergeant. We got word of the fire and I was nearby, got a bucket brigade putting it out.”

Carrot was the type of person who would get the thieves and general scallywags of The Shades to do community service just because they felt guilty around him.

“Captain, an assassin was trying to kill our new friend Nanami here,” Angua explained, pointing towards the assassin who was still on the ground and wondering if he was really going to survive this, “We think it might have been Maghda who paid for the hit.”

Carrot rubbed his chin, then nodded, “Sounds reasonable. Let's head to the Assassins' Guild and talk to them about it.”

“Thanks! You won't regret it!” Beast Boy grinned, suddenly hugging Raven now, and probably instantly making her regret her decision.

“We'll have to tell them about the Stars and stuff too...” Jenna said, looking at the four gems that Garet had pulled out, looking down at them.

-Sunderland-

“This place is a ghost town...” Samuel said, frowning, “I've seen a couple of these places, farther north near the border with the Dark Lands. People just abandoned the place, either fear of an attack of monsters, or...”

He trailed off, “Well, no one really knows...”

[Sunderland]

“It makes sense to find ghost towns in the shadow of the Morgul Mountains… but to find one here? Inconceivable.” Gawain frowned.

They rode down the main street in the town, when suddenly Arturia stopped, pulling the reins on her horse. She sat up, alert in the saddle and looked around.

“We are not alone,” She announced to the others. Her green eyes peered into the darkness around them, and then she pointed towards a nearby building. “There! Someone, or something, watches us!”

Inside the window, for just a fleeting second, were two shadows. One seemed feminine, and the other was enormous.

[Vale]

[Shop]

Raven immediately panicked when Beast Boy hugged her, and she quickly wormed her way out of his hold by floating up. She sunk back into the wall, receding into the shadows of her cape.

“Don’t. Do. That.” Raven called at him in a voice almost like a hiss. Her eyes were narrowed, and with her hood covering her face it was hard to tell if she was blushing or fuming.

[Ruins]

Felix looked down at the gems, and he paused. They were beautiful… and there was unmistakable power emanating from the gems. Felix had never felt such incredible psynergy.

“… Just what have we gotten ourselves into?” Felix wondered.

[Gondor]

Garnet was standing close to Didymus now, and as they entered the crater, she stumbled a bit and had to clutch onto his arm to keep from falling over.

Cid meanwhile looked down into the heart of the crater and what he saw made him gasp. There was a man kneeling in the crater, with his head bowed as if in prayer. He was tall, bald and black, and wore green robes and a cape. He had a white belt, with a sword hanging from it, and a magnificent golden armor over his right arm.

[Ankh-Morpork]

[Museum]

Musashi gave a little shrug. He hadn’t really wanted to reveal his errand or the reasons for it, but now that it was out there, there was no need to hide anything.

“Well, I appreciate that…” Musashi looked to Elysia and realized she didn’t like the idea much. “But, there’s not much that can help. I’ve searched for this mage all over the continent. Wutai, Xing, Altea, the Gra… I’ve been as far south as Draenor, and as far West as Hammerfall. I finally got a lead that he might belong to a Guild here in Ankh-Morpork.”

[Rooftops]

Nanami was pleased to see that Carrot was wasting no time. She supposed it would be best to travel with the Watch and do things in an official manner, although she was still prepared to tear down the Assassin’s Guild brick by brick if she needed to.

Not because they were trying to kill her – a lot of people did that, and Nanami didn’t hold grudges over something so small – but rather because finding Maghda had become an obsession.

“Should we go say hi?” Samuel asked, dismounting from his horse now that they were in town, “I usually act solo, so I don't want to mess things up for you guys.”

He looked around, wondering where what he was looking for would be here, somewhere...Not here in town, not if it was what he expected. But close...

-Vale-

Shop

“Oh, uhhh, sorry!” Beast Boy said, blushing a little and rubbing his head. “I'll try and be more careful.”

He's probably going to end up hugging her again.

“An adventure...” Jenna said, with a short laugh, “Where did we have to go first? Ankh-Morpork, I think?”

“Yah...that Alex guy said we'd find a Mercury Adept there...” Garet nodded.

Assassins' Guild

Carrot lead the group to the Assassins' Guild, knocking on the door. After a few moments it opened up, and a man in all black frowned at Carrot.

“Hello good sir, we're here to talk to Lord Downey,” Carrot said, grinning and nodding to the doorman.

“...May I ask why?” the man asked.

“Oh, just Watch business,” Carrot said, “If he has the time. Just hoping that he as a concerned citizen can talk to us.”

“Uh huh...and if he says no?” the doorman asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Well then we'll have to go,” Carrot said, “I'll have to report to Vimes as well...”

The doorman paused, “I see...one moment...”

He closed the door. After a few moments he returned.

“Lord Downey will see you all,” the doorman said.

He lead them into the Guild, and soon into an office, where Lord Downey sat behind his desk.

He didn't show any reaction when he saw Nanami, just sighed a little at the Watch.

“Yes? What can I help you with?” he asked.

Museum

“Ohhh, a Guild?” Kyran said, “Which Guild? Do you know?”

Elysia frowned a little, shaking her head, “Well...as much as I don't like you, it wouldn't be right to let you die...We might be able to help some...”

<Shop>

Raven glared at Beast Boy. She looked like she might swallow him up with some nightmarish shadow beast, but she quickly let her anger pass.

“You better be a lot more careful.” Raven said coldly. She certainly didn’t need a new friend who would hug her!

except considering my own shipping preferences it seems very unlikely she won’t soften up over time. XD

<Ruins>

“Ankh-Morpork…” Felix frowned. He had never been to that city, but he had heard all the stories. It was supposed to be one of the wildest and most dangerous cities in the world.

“Well… I guess we don’t have much of a choice.” Felix sighed.

[Ankh-Morpork]

<Assassin’s Guild>

Nanami had been completely quiet and well behaved up until this point. Now, as she stood face to face with Lord Downey, she stepped forward and actually gave a polite smile.

“Good afternoon, Lord Downey. I’m sure your Guild has rules against revealing the identity of your clients – especially to the intended target – however, that’s precisely what I’m asking you to do.”

Nanami kept speaking. “I need to know who hired your Guild to kill me. Ordinarily I wouldn’t really mind having to deal with a few assassination attempts, but if your client is part of Maghda’s Cult, then you should know that their goal is the utter destruction of Ankh-Morpork and the horrific deaths of everyone who lives here.”

She said all of this in the same tone of voice that someone might discuss the weather. “I’m quite certain that you don’t want to be accomplice to the destruction of this city. It would be terrible for business and hazardous to your health. So let us skip any further formalities, and give me a name.”

Nanami was being polite because the Watch was being so helpful. Otherwise, she probably would have just frozen him from the neck down and threatened to take an ice pick to his more sensitive areas.

And she still might.

<Musesum>

Musashi shrugged his shoulders. “Unfortunately I don’t know, and as I’m learning, there’s several Guild’s here in Ankh-Morpork.”

He looked over to Elysia and simply smiled to her. “Thank you! I can understand your dislike for me, but I appreciate your help, and I intend to change your mind about me as well.”

Somehow, the ladies seem to like Musashi, even when they shouldn’t. Which is, like, always.

[Sunderland]

<Inside>

In the darkness of the building, a odd conversation was unfolding. It sounded harmless enough… but there was something sinister about it.

“Can I? Can I please? They all look so gooooooood…” A child-like voice asked.

“Hmm…” A sultry tone responded. “I’m not sure it’s a good idea. We’re not supposed to kill any of ‘them’ yet. And I know you… if I turn you loose on the others, you’ll get carried away and take Arturia Pendragon as well.”

The child-like voice whimpered. “Oh no, I’ll be good… I can be good… please?”

“Oh, fine… but don’t eat the King. He was very clear on that.”

<Outside>

“Yes… I believe we shall go inside.” Arturia agreed.

Gawain, however, hopped off his horse first. “I shall go first. If it is dangerous, then allow my blade to be the first to pierce it.”

As Gawain approached the house, however, something enormous burst through the wall!

Admit it, you knew this was coming.

Didymus was still wary, and as Garnet stablilized herself against him, he made no move to block it, instead preparing to thrust her down in the event he had to fight...he reared the horses and stopped the cart, sword still out and in a defensive position.

Well...now what? he thought between silent prayers.

Assassins' Guild

Lord Downey frowned, staring back at Nanami.

“You know how many people have come here, demanding to know who hired us to kill them?” Lord Downey asked, after a moment, “Including you, two. And the reason for that is that we are very, very good, and we stick by our rules.”

Downey produced a long, thin dagger, not holding it threateningly, just using it to cut open a letter now. “I will not tell you the name of our client. If you kill me or threaten me, then you will have to deal with the entirety of the Assassins' Guild, the Watch, and the Patrician himself.”

Angua opened her mouth to say something, but Downey held up his hand.

“However I do understand the threat to the city. Vetenari discussed it with me and some of the other Guild Leaders earlier today. Suffice to say I am confident that the one who hired us to kill you does not work for this Maghda. If you can not take my word for it, then that is too bad.”

He drummed his fingers on his desk, “Now please, leave...I have a lot to do today...”

Museum

“Well, if it's some evil wizard guy...” Kyran said, thinking, “Maybe the Assassins? There's no Guild for wizards, just the university, but those wizards are generally nice. They eat a lot and argue about things.”

Elysia nodded, “Whoever did it could still be hiding out there, but it's not a Guild...”

Kyran sighed, turning to Musashi, “Do you have any leads, a place to start?”

-Sunderland-

“Well that's one ugly SOB,” Samuel commented as Gluttony burst from the wall. “What is that thing anyways?”

Samuel reached into his pack and pulled out his cold iron gauntlet, eying Gluttony and taking a few steps away from the others, holding the glove up.

“Anyone know what this thing is?”

-Vale-

Shop

“Right, right, of course,” Beast Boy nodded quickly, “And don't worry, while on the road I'll show you that didn't make a mistake!”

He didn't want to show off his transformation powers in the middle of a shop in Vale.

Ruins

“It'll be fun!” Garet said grinning, “We'll find that Mercury Adept! Ohhh, maybe she'll be cute...”

Jenna just sighed, shaking her head.

[Assassin’s Guild]

“Let me be perfectly clear on this situation,” Nanami said, and her voice was even icier than usual. Her crimson eyes narrowed. “If you are wrong and your client is connected to Maghda, and this city burns because of your refusal to help; then I will kill you and every member of your Guild, and I’ll do it right in front of the Patrician if I damn well please.”

Nanami doesn’t believe in fear. She sighed, and turned away, but before she left the room she stopped at the doorway and turned her head to look back at him.

“By the way, I will kill anyone you send after me. I’m sure you have too much pride to simply cancel the job now, but do us both a favor and at least put your best people on it so that maybe I can have a challenge.”

[Museum]

Musashi shrugged his shoulders. “Unfortunately, my only lead is Ankh-Morpork, and the possibility that he’s connected to a Guild. I don’t even know his name, or what he really looks like since he was in disguise when he cursed me.”

The boy sighed. “But hey, this is supposed to be a fun trip! No use worrying about this right now. Why don’t we just have some fun?”

[Gondor]

Cid looked over to the man kneeling in the crater, and for a moment he seemed wary.

“Cidolfus Orlandu, it has been a long time.” The mystery man stated and he stood up. His eyes briefly moved to Didymus and Garnet. “There is no reason to be wary, Didymus.”

He looked out at the Shades, who were still hissing and clanging their blades.

“Do not fear these creatures. They shall fall at your blades.”

[Sunderland]

“I know not what it is, but it must be destroyed!” Gawain called. He could feel an aura of evil radiating from the creature.

It charged at Gawain, and he slashed at it, cutting Gluttony’s nose. Gluttony howled, and then ate Gawain’s sword with one bite.

Gawain jumped back and gasped. “What manner of demon is this?”

[Vale]

[Shop]

Raven narrowed her eyes. She wasn’t sure about all of this, but she supposed it couldn’t hurt to have someone else around.

“We should get going. Umbra, are you ready?”

[Ruins]

Felix sighed, and looked around the group.

“Okay… how about we all go home, get whatever we’ll need for a long journey, tell our parents, and meet at town square in half an hour?”

As the Adepts were starting a journey they still did not fully understand, someone was watching them.

Assassins' Guild

Lord Downey just stared levelly at Nanami, frowning. He didn't say anything as she and the others left, being escorted out of the Guild.

Back out in the streets Carrot frowned now, “Lord Downey may be an Assassin, but he's not an idiot, and he's a man of his word. I doubt whoever hired them works for Maghda.”

“No, he doesn't Angua said, “But...”

She frowned, then turned to Nanami, “Can we talk in private?”

Museum

Kyran frowned, sad that there wasn't a better lead, but perked up at the idea of having more fun.

“Ohhh, we can go see the Tower of Art, and maybe see the University Library! Did you know the Librarian there is an orangutang? He's really nice too!” Kyran said, unaware Musashi had been there earlier and fought shadow ninjas.

“You better not be thinking about having 'fun' with my sister,” Elysia frowned, eye twitching, “Especially with a death curse on you! I won't let you make my sister a widow!”

I'm not sure how Elysia got to this conclusion, but she's protective of her twin.

-Sunderland-

“Hungry,” Samuel answered Gawain, then paused. His cold iron gauntlet could probably kill the creature...but if it ate it and ran off, it might take him decades to find it again. With a sign he put it back into his pack, then sat the pack down.

“Hey, creature, let's see if you can chew on me!” Samuel yelled, then charged at Gluttony, trying to punch him in the face!

-Vale-

Shop

Beast Boy smiled, glad to have met some fellow travelers who were cool with him traveling with them. His appearance had put off a lot of people...

Ruins

“Alright, sounds like a plan,” Garet nodded, then headed off to his home.

Jenna sighed, moving over to Felix, “I'm sure mom and dad will be thrilled to hear all this.”

[Assassin’s Guild]

“Then we’ve wasted time.” Nanami sighed, shaking her head. “With each passing hour we get closer to Maghda’s plans becoming a reality. We’ll have to find a new lead.”

Nanami didn’t seem concerned that the Assassin’s Guild was gunning for her, but then they were a small problem next to Maghda and the mysterious Cult that was operating all over the continent.

When Aguna asked to speak privately, Nanami sighed.

“Very well, but we can’t waste too much time.”

[Museum]

Musashi blinked. He knew exactly what Elysia was talking about, and the thoughts had crossed his mind, but Musashi decided not to comment on it.

“The Tower of Art and the University sound great! And don’t worry, Elysia, I’m not going to drop dead anytime soon, and hopefully not at all.” Musashi smiled, trying to use his charm on her.

[Sunderland]

Gluttony looked over at Samuel and he licked his chomps and started rubbing his stomach.

“Okay… you look tasty.” Gluttony said simply and it rushed towards Samuel and opened his mouth wide, biting down on Samuel’s face.

Nom nom nom.

Arturia, meanwhile, drew her invisible sword. The wind blew around her for a moment and she narrowed her eyes, but she dared not attack while Samuel was so close by.

[Gondor]

“I know all of those who Serve.” The man said, though his eyes were focused on the Shades. The creatures were all hissing a lot louder now and clanging their swords louder.

“Stand your ground, and be not afraid of these creatures. They are few and their leader is not here. They cannot prevail against us.”

One of the Shades hissed loudly and rushed forward, slashing with his sword at the mystery man – but the man pulled his sword, a glimmering white blade, and struck the creature down with one blow.

The rest of the Shades hissed and sprang forward.

[Vale]

[Shop]

Raven paused for a moment. A new traveler was probably a good thing, but Raven felt a bit worried.

“We should probably go. If you’re going to be coming with us, you’ll need supplies, and you’ll need to carry them yourself.”

[City]

“Mom and dad will understand.” Felix said, rubbing his neck. He wasn’t sure if they really would… but it seemed important.

Angua nodded, then pulled Nanami aside.

“Okay...I'm going to be honest with you. I know you're...not exactly human,” Angua said, “You Shouted, earlier, with The Butcher. And...I could smell you. It's...very unusual.”

Angua sighed, looking around, nervous, “I'm not going to say anything...Besides you're probably smart enough and perceptive enough to have me figured out... But that's not the point. When we were in Downey's office...I smelled someone like you. They were in that office, earlier that day. They're not anymore. I think that's too big to be a coincidence...”

Museum

Elysia glowered at Musashi, not really content with his answer. Kyran paused, looking at them, then suddenly smiled, clapping her hands.

“Ohhh, I get it now! You two like each other!” Kyran said, “It's one of those stories, two people, claim they don't like each other, but in the end they were destined to be together!”

Elysia, instead of sputtering or blushing, just stared at her sister, and only uttered, “...What.”

“No, I see this all the time, in books, at the play!” Kyran nodded her head sagely. Elysia frowned, wondering, not for the first time, if Kyran had this sort of fanciful ideology and strange outlook on life in order to challenge the usually perceived negatives of her shadow powers.

That, or her sister was just really weird.

“I am not in love with Musashi,” Elysia said, “For one, I barely know him. For two, he annoys me.”

-Sunderland-

Gluttony used Bite!

...it's not very effective.

Samuel squirmed a bit, then brought his fist up, then slammed it down on Gluttony's head from the outside!

Samuel himself wasn't stronger then a regular person, but he did have the advantage of not needing to worry about breaking his hand when hitting someone, so he put a lot of strength into the blow!

“Let me go!”

[Ankh-Morpork]

[Streets]

Nanami’s eyes narrowed. She had Shouted in front of Angua earlier, so it was little surprise that she had been exposed.

“I don’t advertise what I am, but I don’t go out of my way to hide it either. However… if the person who hired the Assassin’s Guild to go after me is the same as I…”

Nanami paused, thinking about the implications. She was fairly confident that between her training, experience and her abilities, she could handle just about any threat… but if there was another Dragonborn after her, it could be a real problem.

She wouldn’t show it, but having another Dragonborn come after her WAS worrisome. It certainly scared her a lot more than the Guild or Maghda’s henchmen.

“It doesn’t matter. Right now my focus is finding Maghda and stopping her from destroying this city. If whoever is trying to kill me wants to get serious, they can come after me themselves.”

Nanami sighed, rubbing the back of her neck. “We need a new lead to find Maghda. It has to be our top priority.”

[Museum]

Musashi blinked as suddenly the girl he was trying to get with accused him of having a thing for the sister who hated him.

“Errr… real life is rarely like books and plays. For the record, the person I’m interested in is YOU, Kyran. Besides, I get the feeling if I so much as glance Elysia’s ways she’ll probably punch me.”

Musashi’s pretty bold.

[Sunderland]

Gluttony’s teeth weren’t doing anything to Samuel, and Samuel’s punch didn’t seem to do much to Gluttony. The creature kept chewing on Samuel’s head, apparently oblivious to the fact it wasn’t working.

A moment later, Gluttony spat him out.

“Why can’t I eat you? I eat everyone… it’s not fair, I want to eat you! I want to eat you!” Gluttony complained like a child.

[Gondor]

Cid dove headfirst into battle, slashing at the Shades. They hissed and fell back with each cut, but the beasts did not die. They slunk back into the shadows with every hit, but then they would strike again, trying to stab at the four of them.

Garnet stayed down, trying to be quiet. She could fight, but she doubted she had any way to attack the Shades.

The stranger cut down another of the Shades and it burnt to ashes in white flames.

The remaining Shades all fell back, hissing, but then they turned and started to ride away.

The stranger paused, watching them, and he did not speak for several minutes. Then, at length, he put his sword away.

“They have fled. However, the danger will only grow.” The stranger turned to Didymus, Garnet and Cid.

“I come barring a message. There are three maidens, one of Light, one of Darkness, and one who lingers in between. Those who lurk in the Darkness will target them. They must be safeguarded.” The Stranger spoke matter-of-factly.

He paused. “Know this… the Dark Lord once more walks among this world, though his power is miniscule compared to what it once was. He must not return to power.”

Cid’s eyes widened. “The Dark Lord lives? How is that possible?”

The Stranger nodded. “He was never destroyed. I have long watched, safeguarding this world from the Darkness.”

[Vale]

[Shop]

“Good.” Raven replied, looking at the green boy. “Because if you can’t, you won’t be coming with us. I can’t be slowed down, this is too important.”

[Town]

Felix nodded.

“Ankh-Morpork will be the easy part… it’s what happens after that that worries me.” Felix sighed, rubbing his neck.
