[Alexandria] [Pub] The voice seemed to falter for a moment, almost as if the speaker had just realized that Umbra might not have been her best choice in rescuers. However, she also sensed greatness in him, and so she knew she must press on. “Here in Alexandria, at the base of the Morgul Mountains. I shall show you the way, but you must hurry… even now I only dare speak to you because the guards are preoccupied with what has happened at the Castle…” Suddenly, the raven flew up, and out of the window, leaving a black streak of magic in the sky. Time returned to normal, and no one seemed to realize anything was amiss. [Avalon] “A King does not answer just any challenge; his mind must be on more important tasks.” The young woman responded. She had still neglected to introduce herself, although there was good reason for it. If the other knights even saw her down here, talking to these strangers, they would likely freak out… but there was little harm in it. They would not know who she really was. “That depends. From the way you speak and your clear disdain for Avalon and its people, it is hard to know if these men you speak of were valiant, honorable knights and paladins, or if they were or if they were of those who broke away from Avalon because of a hatred of the Thalmor.” The young lady said. “However… one whose counsel I value highly recently told me that help comes from unexpected places. So, for now, I see no reason for you to be an enemy of the knights.” |

Alexandria Didymus looked back. "It appears we caused quite a stir...appropriately enough, I suppose. But Gondor? Why there? Sometimes I wonder if anywhere is safe, but...well, actually, is that our destination ultimately? Have the other Elders given their opinions?" He looked back at Alexandria City, and wondered... ...these negative emotions...a city PROUD of rejecting the Word and mocking His servants, he had heard it said, and he had learned enough of them to know this wasn't entirely untrue... Was any land truly safe from that curse, on a deep, societal level? Despite their best efforts... He shook his head again. The mission was still ongoing. |

[Alexandria] “We must pass through Gondor to reach Avalon. We could take the long way, through Altea, but why would we?” Cid asked. “The road is longer, and it takes us dangerously close to Ankh-Morpork.” He shook his head. “Gondor is the safest route we have available to us. Although they reject that we have set a new King in Avalon, things are still decent between their people and our’s. We shold be safe.” |

Alexandria Didymus nodded. "Very well, elder." He sighed, collapsing, allowing himself that moment of rest. He then removed what bits of his disguise that yet remained, allowing Garnet to see him clad simply as a Paladin-and he allowed himself a good look at her. He was, though he did not show it, or tried not to, he was taken a bit by her beauty, her very light skin contrasting sharply with her dark hair, and he nodded. "Now that that's over...Lady Garnet? I am Brother Didymus. This is Elder Cid..." he introduced himself. |

[Alexandria] Garnet nodded a bit. “Thank you… I am in your debt for your help.” Cid was still watching the road, and the skies above. He seemed unsettled. “Princess… my apologies, but the road is long, and I’m afraid it won’t be as hospitable as you’re used to. Hopefully we shall reach Avalon quickly, and safely…” Garnet nodded once more. “I hope so.” |

Alexandria Didymus paused. "We may ask for aid or favor in some form at some point and try to use this as leverage or at least a way of convincing...but...I should think that we don't necessarily get into those kind of debts...hopefully, this was right..." he said. "And for what it's worth, I imagine the quality of living will at least increase when we reach our destination in Avalon..." For a moment, he paused, reflecting on whether Garnet's beauty matched...hers... And shook his head, grinning a bit at himself. |

Alexandria [Pub] In the blink of an eye, everything was back to normal. The sounds returned in full force, people started to move again, and the raven disappeared through the doorway. Umbra stood there for a moment, trying t comprehend whether this was just a bad dream or whether he WAS really visited by a shadow-raven-spirit-thing and told about a rescue mission. Well, the chair broken behind him kinda solidified that it was real. He turned to the barkeep as the mug of mead was place on the counter and the man noticed the chair, ready to start yelling, and slammed down money compensating for both the bar stool and the drink, a few gold coins glittering on the table. "Sorry ta drink an' run, but I got sumthin' I gotta do." Grabbing the tankard of mead, Umbra slammed it all back, drinking the entire thing in just a few enormous gulps, set the tankard back down, and was out the door right after. He didn't run quickly by any respect. He was too heavy to be truly a runner at this point, too much weight bogged him down. But he ran steadily, and much faster than anyone else under similar weight. Taking a steady pace that let him breathe evenly, the half-orc followed the shadowy line created by the raven, taking straight for the gates. He ignored completely another guard detachment which he ran by, having to brush one aside as the man tried to stop him, and was out the gates, running for the mountain range and following the path in the sky. And he continued to RUN, never stopping his pace... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Avalon Sai shook his head slowly. "It's not the country I dislike. Well... suppose it is, partially, but it's the religious fervor, the zealotry, the pushing of faith on others and ultimately the shoving of all the person's wrongdoings on said faith that I dislike. The corrupt simply say that it's god's will for them to be corrupt, and I can't stand that sort of bullshit." He stepped forward, completely ignoring most protocols when dealing with any sort of court lady, and stretched a hand out to shake hers. "And so far, I have no problems with the knights other than the mile-long sticks up their collective asses. I'm not the sort of person that's much for formality, I am just an adventurer looking for jobs to feed my stomach. This last one netted me enough cash to survive for a few months, but so far I'm liking the diversity. Fighting cultists and giant beasts is MUCH more challenging than protecting some rich bastard's fat ass from thrown rocks." |

[Alexandria] [Wilderness] As Umbra ran through the wilderness on the trail of the raven’s shadow, he would eventually come to see a building in the distance. It sat in the middle of a grassy clearing, covered in the shadow of the enormous Morgul Mountains nearby. Alexandria City was very close to the Mountains; the natural border with the Dark Lands. The building was made of stone and steel, and there were strange creatures roaming around. They were horrifying. [Cart] “These things can be discussed later. They are decisions to be made by the King, and by the Elders.” Cid said, as he finally settled down and leaned against the cart. They were far from Alexandria City, and Cid relaxed a bit more. “I will do what I can to help.” Garnet nodded. “But I’m afraid that what’s happening now may be a greater issue than either of our nations…” [Avalon] The young woman was now frowning. She crossed her arms and looked up at Sai. While she was short in stature, she exuded power from her small frame. “Enough! You speak out of ignorance. How many times have you ever been to Avalon’s capitol? How many times have you stepped foot in our castles or churches? You are an Elf, are you not?” She shook her head. “For more than two hundred years, we have been at war with the Dark Elves of the Thalmor… and yet when you came here, you were treated with respect, were you not? Has anyone cast suspicious eyes on you, or tried to clap you in irons? The least you can do is show some modicum of respect, especially while you stand in Camelot.” |

Alexandria [Wilderness] Umbra continued to run. And while the actual run wasn't all that short, it did take him a good half hour of continuous running to get to his destination. The closer he got to the place, the darker the area became though, and the more on edge the half-orc felt. So by the time he actually saw the first of the monsters, he already had his massive hammer in his hands. He continued to run though, seemingly paying no attention to the monsters until one of them actually noticed him. When it actually did notice him and launched into a frenzied attack, Umbra's hammer was used like a bat to smack it away, a cracking sound confirming that he broke bones with that blow. Luckily, Umbra was not scared of monsters. The closer he got, the more attention from the beasts he attracted, and the more times he was attacked. Still, he continued to jog, swinging his hammer about and cracking limbs and creature skulls with every swing. The maul was specifically designed for his own massive strength, and its weight crushed bones by itself. Adding strength from his own blows was almost overkill, but he had someone to rescue. Finally, once he was within a hundred meters of the actual building, he accelerated, his loping run turning into a full sprint, the full weight of his entire body thrown forward and aiding him in a charge. With a guttural battle-cry "FOR THE NORTH!!!", the half-orc sprinted right towards the building's wall and SWUNG, this time putting as much strength and momentum into his blow as he possibly could. The stone exploded inward, and he tumbled into the building, not quite enough to stop his momentum after the strike, his arms ringing from the actual blow. Immediately, he turned around, his hammer snapping up and catching one of the creature that followed him across the side. Now, he just needed to find the person he needed to rescue... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Avalon Sai grunted in annoyance, his arm retreating as he folded both arms, looking at the woman with contemplative eyes. "I've been to the capitol once, during the night after a mission, and was "politely requested" at sword point to leave the very same night. That was... About 60 years ago, maybe a little more than that. This is my second time visiting the capitol. So excuse me for being ignorant of the fact that you do things differently than at your borders, miss prissy." With a step, he leaned against the nearest wall, still looking contemplatively at the woman. "I have no problem with your knight order. Hell, they're much better behaved than the maniacs in the border towns, apparently, though said maniacs still refer to the "orders from capitol" when they execute "witches". I don't exactly have the best impression of Avalon in general, and your lecture is not exactly helping that fact. I'm not ignorant, girlie, and I'm not an idiot." He shrugged. "But you probably won't listen anyways, since all you knights seem to be stuck in the self-righteous phase, so enough chit-chat. I'm looking for more work. If you have any mercenary work left, I'd be glad to pick up the tab." |

[Alexandria] [Prison] The beasts had been dispatched easily enough, but with every one that was crushed or broken or battered by Umbra’s maul, thick black ooze leaked out of their crumpled corpses. It was too thick to be blood and it seemed to cling to Umbra’s maul, and to the ground where the bodies fell. Inside the prison, Umbra had stumbled into a massive square room. There appeared to be nothing in it, but in the center of the room, there was a crease on the floor. It was hard to see, but there was a door there that led BENEATH the prison. [Avalon] The young woman’s annoyance only grew and she shook a bit, but quickly regained her regal composure. “Sixty years? Then you are judging this nation based on antiquated notions. The current Monarchy has only been in place for less than a decade. At the time of your last visit, Avalon was in a constant state of flux, and there were many arguments between the Church and the Governors as to what the laws should be.” She shook her head. “You claim you are not ignorant, but your words prove otherwise. Perhaps you have not noticed, but human society is much quicker to change than that of the Elves. It is not a matter of being self-righteous… it is a matter of simple fact.” She shook her head. “If you still judge us by our actions from sixty years past, then it is little wonder that man and elf has such difficulty living in peace.” |

Avalon The dark elf raised an eyebrow at the woman's tirade... And suddenly chuckled. "Sixty years is a long time, but elves in general do not change quickly. We're a ponderous race, us pointy-ears. Just know that the last time I was anywhere around Avalon in general was only 3 and a half years ago, and I was visiting one of the border villages top pick up a few things. Ended up in prison when they accused me of witchcraft, so I had to take extreme measures in the end. It's still happening, whether you know of it or not." He stretched widely, getting some motion back into his blackened arm, as he actually lifted it up and FLEXED it, finally regaining a modicum of mobility. It no longer looked coal-black either, and some pink could be seen underneath the billowing smoke. "I've been around the other countries more than Avalon. I suppose I CAN claim a little ignorance about your country in particular, since mostly I've been wandering the Dark Lands and the eastern coast. Fun times." He then sent a mild glare at the girl. "I don't appreciate being lectured though. Might want to cut back on that, and I'll stay just as civil. So who am I talking to anyways? You're pretty important here." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alexandria [Prison] It took Umbra another two minutes to actually get up. He has trailed quite a few of those monstrosities after him, and once he fell over inside the building, they just all dog-piled him at once. His armor held though, and he has avoided any significant damage, only catching a few scratches on his armor plates. Nothing he couldn't repair later. When he got up, he instead decided that he didn't want to deal with any more of those dogs, and slammed his hammer into the wall a few times, collapsing it. However, he misjudged the collapsing stone, and ended up having to smash his hammer against the entrance downward, rolling into the hole he made just as one of the walls of the stone shack collapsed. Now, with his way back blocked off, he ended up underneath the structure, holding his hammer close and ready. |

[Alexandria] [Prison] When Umbra rolled into the hole, he would find himself deep beneath the floor. It was at least ten feet down, and pitch-black. There were no windows and no doors, but there was movement. A figure moved in the darkness; a young woman chained to the wall. She looked frail and tired, as if she had been surviving on the bare minimum of food and water for a very long time. Her skin was pale and her hair a purple hue, but she looked up at Umbra. “… You made it. I was worried at first. Please, break these chains and free me…” [Avalon] “If you do not appreciate lectures, then you should not speak ignorance of a nation while standing in their capitol.” The young woman repeated in her usual serious tone. “There are many in the border towns of Avalon who, sadly, have been driven to paranoia and extremism. However… the Thalmor have been constantly prodding and attacking our boarder for a great many years now, so their paranoia is not entirely unfounded. I do apologize if they have wronged you, but unfortunately as long as hostilities remain with the Thalmor, those who receive the brunt of the attack will be suspicious of Elves.” She sighed, and from the expression on her face it was clear that she DID find that fact sad. When he asked who she was, she shook her head. “I have taken up enough of your time, even delaying the good Sir Gawain.” Surely enough, Gawain was in the doorway, watching the whole thing with an amused smirk on his face. He entered the room. “Not at all.” He said to the woman. “I see you have met Sai and Samuel. I cannot speak to their opinions of Avalon, but I have seen them in battle and their bravery is unquestionable.” The woman nodded. “Then I shall leave you to your business with them, Sir Gawain. I must go, and see that Sir Cyrus is buried.” Gawain approached Sai, and handed him a large bag of gold and jewels. “It is more than I promised you, but I exposed you to dangers greater than I anticipated.” He then approached Samuel, handing him a change of clothes and a bag of gold. “I know you said you needed nothing more than fresh clothes, but it would not be right to not reward you with coin after your contribution to that battle.” |

Avalon The black-haired elf just chuckled deeply. "Bravery? More like lack of the sense of self-preservation. That's what... Heh. That's what my old companions used to say back when I still had some. It's much easier being a crazy bastard than a hero." He snagged the bag of gold, jingling it in his hand and confirming that yes, his payment WAS bigger than anticipated. He nodded in thanks briefly and threw the bag over his shoulder, which vanished in a flare of purple energy and black smoke. "Bit rude of the woman to ignore my question..." Wit a shrug, he turned to Gawain. "Any other jobs you need doing? Or would you care for a spar, perhaps? I'm currently somewhat annoyed that the chick blew me off that easily, and wouldn't mind testing you out where you could actually do some damage. No offense, knight, but your sword was mostly ineffective against Zeromus." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alexandria [Prison] It was a young girl. Umbra knew that he was being talked to by a woman's voice, but he thought that she was just leading him along to the prison to release a friend or ally. It certainly seemed that way. But when he beheld the vision that was inside the prison, he froze. A young girl, dressed in rags, hanging off of chains on the wall. She seemed to be barely alive, let alone well, and it made Umbra... Angry. Very angry. When his mother was raising him, he was always told to be nice to people. When he picked fights, his mother scolded him. When he was angry, his mother shot his anger down with cold words. She taught him that he needed to treat others the same way he wanted to be treated. Those lessons stirred within him, just as anger of his father's race stirred in his blood. Someone had the AUDACITY to keep a young girl contained like this! It was an outrage! "'old up, I'll be lettin' ye out in a jiffy! Damn psychos, ain't nuthin' great 'bout keepin' a girl like this..." Jogging over, the mountain of muscle raised his maul, and came in like a tank, aiming for one of the chains as he struck. And instead of his hammer pulping the steel of the chain, there was a resounding clang as the chain left an imprint of itself in the metallic face of the hammer, remaining completely unbroken. That gave Umbra pause. "... Huh? That ain' right..." Again, he gave a mighty swing, fueling his strikes with the rage he still felt boiling in him, a guttural shout coming from his mouth as he slammed the massive weapon into the chain and wall again. The wall cracked, but the chain remained completely undamaged. Umbra paused. So that didn't work. His mother always said that the definition of insanity was the repetition of an action and the expectation of a different result. Or something complicated like that. He best remembered it as "If it don't work, try something else". So, instead of swinging for the chains this time, Umbra put his full strength into smashing against the wall. It cracked, but the wall didn't cave in. They were underground, and the stone walls just had more earth beyond them, which spread out the impact of his blows too much. So THAT didn't work either. Then, Umbra glimpsed the areas where the chains were connected to the wall... And changed his target, swinging hard for the points of connection. THIS time he got results as the chain wiggled in the wall after the impact ans the wall cracked. He repeated the action once more, and the chain came free. "... HA! Got it! Don'tcha worry, little un. I'm gonna get ye outta here." With that promise, Umbra went on to continue work on the other pieces of the wall, freeing the girl chain by chain... |

[Avalon] “It is true that my sword could not penetrate that beasts foul shell… but it is equally true that I had two more pressing tasks at hand in that battle. To look after Glenn, who could not look after himself, and to keep an eye out for more treachery of that foul wizard.” Gawain said, shaking his head. “I am grateful to your help, though, for I likely could not have prevailed alone, at least not unscathed.” He paused for a moment, considering Sai’s offer. “Perhaps a spar can be arranged… though not in the castle. The King would frown on that.” [Alexandria] [Prison] When the chains came loose from the wall, the young woman quickly moved forward. She stretched her legs and shakily stood up. She was tired, and sore, and had been chained for a long time. “Please…” She looked to Umbra. “Help me outside… once I am free of this prison, I should be able to escape these chains…” However, nothing can ever be that simple. The slime on Umbra’s maul suddenly began to swirl and come to life! It fell to the ground and took on a purple hue, and it grew larger. Eyes and a mouth appeared, and even hand-like appendages of slime! The creature grabbed at Umbra’s legs, and spat a foul poisonous cloud at him! |

Avalon Sai scoffed. "Oh, please. You could have handled Zeromus on your own and you know it. Maybe not unscathed, yeah, but I didn't come out unscathed either." He lifted his damaged arm, then dropped it into a limp hang again. "All you had to do to take down THAT big guy was bust the gem on its face, break its focus, and then start sliding that toothpick of yours in between its armor plates. You could probably use its own sword against it too, if you had the space to maneuver enough." A smirk began forming on the elf's face. "You're a swordsman, and a damn good one. In fact, you're not that far behind the lady that just left, and she's a master of the sword. I foresee this spar being a real good one." He leaned off the wall, rolling his shoulders and testing his arm again. "You also keep talking about the king around this place. Does he really have such a great reputation and command that much respect? Or is it because of the station?" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alexandria [Prison] "That ain't no slime or jelly..." Umbra fought many a monster during his life. He lived at the edge of the Dark Lands, after all, and monsters came by frequently. It's why he had such great armor, made out of the scales of a nasty and old Steel Drake, and why he had a necklace of teeth as trophies of the various monsters. Jellies and slimes were relatively common, and he often used to go out onto the garden behind his home and clear it of various slimy creatures so they would not damage anything. But this thing was not a slime or a jelly. It looked to horrifying for that, and he even made a step backward when the thing finally revealed its monstrous appearance, which saved him form having his legs grabbed onto as the thing spat a cloud of... SOMETHING... At him. And that something was definitely bad news. He reviewed his options. He had an unidentified enemy, a girl who could barely move was next to him... And the thing was between him and the exit. It was a nasty position, but not inescapable. Growling, Umbra hefted the maul in his hand, bringing it to his shoulder as his other arm swept the girl off her feet and onto his other shoulder. Sure it wasn't any way to carry a girl, but he had no other option. "Sorry 'bout dat. I'll put ye down jus' as soon as we're outta dis place. Hold on, we're bustin' through! FOR THE NORTH!!!" And with that warcry, Umbra again tapped into that anger that his blood brought every time he was in battle, anger than made him stronger, and CHARGED. He went straight for the slime thing,, holding his breath as he shot through the nasty cloud, and swung his maul at it to bash away a large upper part of the creature, his body slamming into it right after and blasting out the other side from the force of the charge. He didn't even look back as he continued to run, back up the staircase and to the collapsed entrance, which he took at full speed as well. And plowed right through the collapsed stonework with another roar. Once on the other side, he gulped in air... And started coughing uncontrollably. Whatever it was, that cloud was NASTY, and some of it still managed to get into his system, no matter how much he held his breath. I spit upon the Second Law of Thermodynamics! ~ Desty Nova, Karmatron Theory Let them Label me! Let them swear and curse at me as I tug humanity like a bucking bull into the darkness of the unknown, revealing its secrets to the sane and driving them MAD! Years from now, when I will inevitably be removed, my work shall continue to progress, because these things cannot be denied! Governments will publicly criticize my work, but privately conduct research that advances it! I shall imprint myself into the annals of history, among the stars that shine as brightly as Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton, Benjamin Franklin, Dmitri Mendeleev, Nikola Tesla, and countless others! My work will shine as brightly as any star, and I AM ITS CREATOR!!! ~ Desty Nova, Morality
