[Alexandria Castle] Garland was knocked back by the strength of Steiner’s full weight. While Garland blocked Steiner, Beatrix moved and slashed at him from the side, her sword clanging against his armor. He took a step back. “I have neither the time nor the inclination to kill you.” Garland roared, and he held up his hand. There was a fierce black cloud that swirled around his palm, and then several flaming bats appeared and shot at them both! Fire Keese were dangerous magical creatures that could ignite anything they touched! Garland turned and ran after Didymus and Garnet! […] “This way!” Cid suddenly appeared at the edge of the door. “The cart is outside, do hurry, both of you!” |

Alexandria Castle "We must stop him!" Steiner said to Beatrix, and slashed at a keese, the creature being demolished by the huge man's sword and the force behind the blow! Could they ignite his sword? Maybe, but it was metal. It wasn't going to burn very well. [...] Didymus nodded, and gestured to Garnet. "Go, Lady Garnet. I will be right behind you." |

[Alexandria Castle] Cid hurried Garnet into the cart, and he quickly jumped aboard. Once Didymus was on board, the cart took off, hurrying away from the Castle. Garland appeared in front of them on the road. He was moving too fast to have run there… he had to have used some spell to get ahead of them! “Didymus, keep the Princess down!” Cid called and he stood in the front of the cart, holding his sword. “Lord, give me strength! Let me clear the path…” There was a low electrical hum, and when Cid slashed his sword, a bolt of lightning came down from the blade and hit Garland in the chest! There was a massive flash of light and Garland collapsed, and the cart rolled past. There was a reason Cid was one of the Elders. |

Alexandria "Lady Garnet, get down!" Didymus called, and when Garland was smote, Didymus bowed his head. "In nomine Patris et Filii et Spiritus Sancti..." he whispered earnestly, as it appeared the way had been cleared for them, their mission a success by blessing... |

Avalon Sai just nodded briefly. "I figured. It wasn't a threat, it was a warning. You won't pull that gauntlet out on me, and I have no reason to attack you or perpetrate massive amounts of violence. Yet." He watched as Lancelot arrived and gave greeting to both of them, and gave a small scoff. "I respect those who stand to their last, defending their ideal, whatever it is. Those that don't give up until their final hour have my respect. The dead knight, Cyrus, never gave up. Never bowed. So he's got my respect. Treat his body right, give him one of your fancy burials." As Lancelot let them go in, Sai just fell into stop behind Gawain. "Do you always greet each other so stiffly?" ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alexandria Gates The wandering half-orc slowly trekked along the road towards the gates that protected the large capital of Alexandria, whistling lightly and merrily to himself. He was an enormous guy, standing at over seven feet and so broad that he seemed to take up half the width of the wide beaten road leading up to the gates of the magnificent city. Every step he took left a deep footprint, and a large pack swayed over his shoulder. However, what stood out most was what he was armed and armored with. His weapon, an absolutely enormous maul, hung over his left shoulder supported by solid steel straps and locks, for the ting would have torn right through leather straps by its sheer weight and mass. The pole of the maul was a good 4 and a half feet, and the head was a solid block of inscribed metal the size of an average human male's torso. His armor drew just as much attention. Steel that was muted to be an almost black color, yet didn't quite reach it, made up the majority of the armor, all of it made as interlocking plates, some larger and some smaller. Even the metal itself was different, appearing more like scales than actual metal, locked together by complex links between each plate. The edges of each one of these plates, however, were strangely transparent without revealing whatever was underneath. Around the collar of the armor was fine and white rabbit fur, forming almost a mane of white around the half-orc's neck, the fur extending down to the middle of his back like some sort of short cape attached to the armor. The same fur poked out from underneath the pauldrons of the armor and from under the armor plates over his shins, covering the upper half of his boots. All in all, Umbra made quite the sight walking down the busy road, whistling as he closed in on the gates of Alexandria... |

[Alexandria] The cart sped on, and Cid did not sit for several minutes. His aged eyes watched the road, and the skies above, as the horses ran with all of their speed. By now, the streets were swarming with soldiers, but they had a head start. Finally, the cart cleared the great city gate and sped out into the countryside, and Cid sat back down and sheathed his blade. “… We shall travel all night, and until midday tomorrow, when we shall rest the horses. Hopefully we shall be over the border into Gondor by then.” Cid told them. […] The city was on high alert, but no one quite knew why. By now, Beatrix had given the order and the knights were patrolling the city with spears and shields, looking for those who ‘kidnapped’ the princess. “You probably shouldn’t be out on the streets.” A voice spoke to Umbra. It was soft and feminine, but there was no one around to say the words. It was as if the voice was carried on the wind. “You look suspicious, and the city is on high alert. Duck into the tavern just up the road.” [Avalon] Lancelot looked to Sai and raised an eyebrow. “… You need not tell a Knight to honor his fallen brother’s remains.” When they had left Lancelot, Gawain simply sighed. “He and I do not get along. Yet that is hardly a matter I wish to discuss.” They came into a large inner room of the castle, and Gawain turned to them. “I will fetch you your rewards. Do stay here.” |

Alexandria "'uh?" Umbra paused as a voice floated to him on the wind, without anyone around him. It looked like the streets were mostly abandoned, too, which was strange... Except for city guards which seemed to be flitting here and there. Sure, there were others too, like merchants and the occasional person here and there, but the streets were mostly empty, and the guard presence was heavy. Maybe the voice DID have something in mind... But Umbra really didn't have much to hide. So while he DID take the voice's advice and head towards the closest tavern, he did so without being too quick and walking calmly and proudly. While he didn't understand much in the way of fancy talking with people, he wasn't sneaky at all, so if he had nothing to hide, he didn't have much to worry about. At least as far as he figured. That as all the thought he put into it anyways. Its not like he was going to remember much of it in the first place, his memory was always spotty at best. So, without further ado, he headed for the tavern, passing right by a detachment of guards, and opened the door of the tavern, stepping through and throwing a curious glance over everyone inside. While he was familiar wit taverns, he was still curious about the differences between small town taverns and big city taverns like this one... And the size definitely changed things. Walking up to the bar, the half-orc took one of the sturdier-looking chairs,, the wood groaning under him as he sat and slammed a hand down on the counter. "'ey! Barman! Ya gots any mead 'round here, or jus' de prissy ale ye city folks keep 'round?" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Avalon Sai blinked in surprise. "Wait, I thought all you knights got along just fine, what with the Round Table and all. Are you two really that different in your views, or is there something else... Tcheh, since you won't talk about it, I suppose it's not my business." Sai took a look around the opulent room... And tumbled into the closest seat, his boots going up onto the surface of a nearby table. He leaned back and relaxed, letting his damaged arm hang like a limp noodle, still smoking heavily. "Tense. This place is too tense. I wonder how they're all still holding this place together." |

[Alexandria] [Pub] As Umbra entered the tavern, the room suddenly darkened. The candles went out, the fireplace was suddenly reduced to nothing but smoldering embers, and everyone seemed to freeze in place. Everyone except Umbra, that is. “Do not be alarmed. I mean you no harm.” A shadow crept across the room. The scene was undeniably creepy, but nothing jumped out, and nothing attacked. The voice was still soft, like an echo on the wind. “This city is not safe. Dark things are brewing here… you seem to be made of something sturdy… are you a warrior?” [Avalon] “You’re right. It is not your business.” Gawain said, and he headed out of the room. |

Alexandria [Pub] Umbra didn't even notice everything freeze around him as he dove into his pack for something, before coming right back up and looking at the bartender, growing a bit confused. "Hey, I wus askin' fer a mug o' mead, and yer jus' stan-... Din'... Oi. Ye all right? Yer not movin', an'... De fire's out an'... Holy crap!" He was completely taken off-guard when everything around him froze. He'd NEVER seen anything like this before, and it made the hairs on the back of his neck rise. He jumped out of his seat, standing up and arm reaching for the handle of his maul as he got ready to run, when the voice spooked him. Spooked him enough that he actually yelped in surprise and stepped back, topping back into the chair. The chair, not used to handling over 500 pounds of weight in total, crumpled under him and he ended up sitting on the ground amongst broken pieces of what used to be a very sturdy bar stool. "I swear I 'eard a voice... Ah, I'm still 'earin' it!" He listened nonetheless, fully alert as the voice warned him about dark things brewing in the shadows of the city. When asked whether he was a warrior, Umbra slowly rose up to his full height again, shaking dust and bits of wood off of himself, answering carefully. "Sorta... I ain't no 'ficial fighter or nuthin', I'm just an 'dventurer, or ta see th' world. Who's askin'?" |

[Alexandria] [Pub] There shadows intensified in the corner of the room, and suddenly a great black shape shot upwards. It resembled a bird of some kind, made entirely of a magical energy. ![]() “I am one who sits in darkness but dreams of light. I have watched Alexandria for some time, waiting for one with bravery in their heart. The only ones I found before you would not have spoken to my kind…” She was referring to the Paladins who had come through Alexandria just minutes ago. “I cannot keep this tavern separated from time for much longer… all I can say is that there is an errand of most importance, in need of one with a stout heart to undertake it. Are you such a man?” |

Alexandria [Pub] Umbra blinked. Then blinked again. Then... "... AAAH! RAVEN SHADOW THIN'! Dat's not supposed ta 'appen. Wait... Yer the... Oh. Uhh. Sorry." Clearing his throat uncomfortably, Umbra calmed after the sudden scare he had, correctly piecing together the shadow's appearance with the woman's voice, finally untying his tongue enough to answer. "... Whoa. That's sum... Fancy 'troduction ye got there, lady. I ain't got nuthin near that fancy. I'm jes Umbra. Umbra Thunderstone. I dunno nothin' 'bout no separatin' time tho, and I dun know 'bout dat stout heart part... But If ye needin' 'elp, den I'm gonna try 'nyways." Umbra didn't know anything about any paladins, nor did he know anything about what the woman was speaking of. The only thing he knew was that the tone of her voice was urgent and honest, and that she was asking for help. And Umbra was raised in a way that taught him to help those in need to the bets of his abilities. Especially girls, no matter how young or old. "Yer not one fer wastin' time tho, so if ye be needin' help, den I'll give my best. Whatcha need?" |

-Avalon- Samuel leaned against the wall, looking around. “Nice place they have here...” Samuel said, “Been a while since I've been in Avalon though. People around here tend to be a little stiff for my liking.” He glanced over to Sai, “So you've got a lot of magic in you, huh?” If Sai could tell, Samuel didn't seem to have any sort of magic on him. No blessings, no magic. He just felt...well, not ordinary. There was something...Off about him. Like the world felt a little wrong around him, like he was a little out of place. -Ankh-Morpork- Shades Hotel Detrius smashed one of the spiders, swinging his arms around to attack others! Vimes pulled his sword out as the spider monster came at him, bringing it down with a powerful slash! Old Butcher's Shop Angua found herself growling despite herself. She crouched down, then leaped at The Butcher, slashing with her claws! Mended Drum “Of course!” Kyran smiled brightly at Musashi, “We have a number of alcoholic beverages and non alcoholic ones for sale!” “How about some milk?” Ben asked. “Tea, please,” Jade ordered. Kyran nodded, closing her eyes for a moment. There were a number of reasons why the owner had hired her. For one, she had been the only one to apply, two, her unusual powers kept things in check during the day, so the place was still unbroken when the night regulars came in and had their fight. And a third was this. Shadows appeared on the table, and a glass of milk appeared by Ben. “Sorry, but I have to bring you the tea. Otherwise it gets cold if I do it that way,” Kyran apologized to Jade. “It's, uhhh...fine,” Jade said, nodding slowly. |

Avalon Sai cracked an eye open, looking at Samuel, before affirming the man's statement. "Yep. Opulent and rich as always. This place is a religious cesspool, and the place was mostly ruled by cardinals before there was some sort of selection ceremony for the King. And the church loves their opulence and appearance, they like to shove everything onto the "grace of god". Bunch of sycophants." He shrugged. "It's why I don't like stopping by this place all that much. It's too rigid, and if they catch you stepping even a little out of line, you become number one on their rather massive shunning list. Either that or they tie you up and throw you behind bars." He did indeed speak from experience on that one. Over the many years that he wandered from place to place, he never actually came close to Avalon's capital and castle, but he did visit the kingdom and found it too stifling after his third near-escape after he killed yet another bar brawler. He avoided the place ever since, except when jobs brought him to Avalon. That's how he ended up here anyways. "Gotta hand the credit to the King though. Instead of those damn inquisitorial squads, they put up an order of knights as the ruling section. Their codes of chivalry do a much better job than their religious fervor, even if they are naive." Both of his eyes opened, looking at the ceiling as he pondered. "... I want to meet this King of theirs. He's supposed to be some sort of battle guru, and I wouldn't mind having a face-off with a master of the blade. It's actually one of the few reasons I ended up here in the first place. The other is that I'm dead broke and looking for cash in whatever form it comes along. At least this job will feed me for a few months." |

[Alexandria] [Pub] The enormous shadow of the raven looked out to Umbra, though there was no malice in its gaze. Instead it had gentleness to it. “A dark shadow creeps over this land, cast down from the Morgul Mountains… near the base of those mountains sits a prison built for a single inmate. Queen Brahne has given to the will of the darkness and imprisoned someone there… she draws power from the prisoner, and uses that power for terrible and cruel deeds.” The raven’s voice became low and sad. “The prisoner must be freed, and Alexandria deprived of this dark power.” [Ankh-Morpork] [Shades Hotel] The skulltulas were vicious creatures, and their bodies were hard as bone; luckily when you have a troll, that hardly matters. Most of them scuttled away, into the corner… and there they vanished into a thick black smoke! The smoke swirled together, and formed into one Giant Skulltula! And it spoke. “What brings you down here Vimes? Stay out of our business…” The spider hissed. [Old Butcher’s Shop] The Butcher grunted as Angua’s claws raked across its flesh. The demonic beast was enormous, and its body thick with both muscle and fat, and it felt little pain from the attack. Instead it slashed with a massive hook, trying to impale Angua! Nanami circled around the monster and slashed at it from behind, drawing blood from its leg. The Butcher turned and tried to smash her; but she leaped from the path! [Mended Drum] Musashi watched in awe as Kyran materialized the milk for Ben, and his jaw dropped. Now THAT was an impressive thing to do! “Young lady, that was astonishing!” Musashi said, clapping his hands. “I have traveled this world far and wide, and seldom have I seen such creative magic. Oh, and I shall have some cider… I’d order an ale, but alas… alcohol does not agree with me.” [Avalon] “It’s clear that you know little of our history, stranger.” A young woman with blonde hair had appeared at the door. She wore a blue and white dress, and moved gracefully. There was a certain regal manner to her appearance. “The Inquisitors you speak of come not from the Church. That was a darker time in Avalon’s history, when some had grown so weary of the battles with the Thalmor that they broke off into their own, more extreme, order. However… Cidolfus Orlandu put an end to all of that, leading his men to drive out the Thalmor and the extremist from our own society.” The young woman looked over to Sai and Samuel and spoke kindly, but there was a certain forcefulness to her words. “As for the King… He follows the way of the Knights, and does not draw his blade for such petty concerns as a simple duel.” |

Alexandria [Pub] Umbra scratched his head, trying to wrap his mind around the concept that something like that could even be POSSIBLE. He had seen simple magics: floating stars and sparkles, closing wounds, even a little weather manipulation, but even that was gradual. What the voice was telling him was SO far out of his area of expertise that it was confusing him too much. "So, wait, ya mean there's som guy or gal that's needin' rescuin'? An' this queen, ain't it better ta take 'er out as well? If she be doin' all them bad stuff, then she needs punishin' right?" He stood at attention. "Well, there ain't no time ta be wastin'. If someone needs rescuin' den dat's de first thing we gotta do. Uhh... Where was it 'gain?" ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Avalon You didn't need to be a warrior to see the grace of the woman that just stepped into the room. It WAS a woman, though it almost looked like she was carefully disguised as a male youth. She was a pretty thing, lithe and graceful, every movement flowing and measured. All in all, she was beautiful. But that's not what caught Sai's eye. He had seen beauty before, more common, more exotic. No, what really caught his eye was the way she MOVED... And the constant feeling of something in the air. She carried a presence with her, a presence that he could only attribute to one thing. Lancelot had it, but in much lower intensity. Gawain had it, but in slightly lower intensity. But this woman... This woman had it in spades. She knew the sword. She moved with the grace and motions of a master swordsman. There was NOTHING more in this world that Sai wanted right now more than to fight her, to test how she would match up against his own blade. "... Not even when a challenge is issued, knight? Pity." He stood up, the motion sudden and fluid, turning fully to face her. He could do no less to someone who was fellow practitioner of the blade, and such a powerful one at that. "I know little about Avalon's history. I didn't care much for it after I was forced to kill so much of its religious zealots in their pursuit of my self. I'm not apologizing for that either, they had it coming. But enough about that. What happens now? Are you going to take me to court for herecy?" |
