Mountainous Region Sai nodded quietly as Samuel put away his gauntlet... And walked through the portal. Sighing with a little bit of disappointment, he looked back at the blasted battlefield, reliving the battle in his head and shaking his head. "Just the right amount of force and ingenuity. Pathetic. This better not be the best you had, mage... Or I will not consider you even worth hunting." And with those words into empty air, he stabilized the magic flow into the rune he still had up and put a mage-shell around the symbol, protecting it from external influences of the gateway, stepping through and carrying the burnt remains of Cyrus back through with him, the gate closing behind him... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Avalon, Cyrus's Cottage Sai stepped out of the portal, the body following him as the gateway closed. He looked around, nodded, settled the remains of Cyrus down on the ground and focused on channeling magic into his limb, which now looked like a conglomeration of shadow and smoke instead of a solid limb. "Heh. That was a good fight. So, knight, mission complete. Got any other interesting tasks you want me to take, or did my methods completely disgust you by now?" |

[Avalon] [Cyrus’ Cottage] As soon as they were out of the portal, Gawain gave a huge sigh of relief. He was in disbelief that they had traveled to the infamous Morgul Mountains and faced off with such an abomination and survived. He would have a new tale to regale his fellow Knights with, though a tragic one with Cyrus meeting his demise. He looked over to Sai and he frowned. “I shall not lie, I find your methods abominable… but I am nothing if not a man of my word. You shall be paid in full for your help. Come, let us return to Camelot Castle!” [Ankh-Morpork] [The Shades] Across the street from the hotel, two men were watching as Vimes and Detrius smashed into the room. “I didn’t expect the Watch to get involved in things so soon.” Lucien LaChance, head of the Dark Brotherhood, frowned to his companion. The second man had dark hair and sunglasses, and was absently watching with amusement on his face. “It doesn’t matter. It’s far too late… Maghda has proven herself useful. Even if she is stopped before Ankh-Morpork burns, enough has been done. Avalon, Gondor and Hyrule are blind to what is happening… the Graybeards are too late to warn them. The puppies can only bark at the end of their chain.” […] As Detrius smashed into the hotel room, he would find a horrific sight. The room was full of Skulltulas! Giant spiders with skulls for bodies that were known to be extremely venomous! In the War, the Dark Lord had been known to breed thousands of them to send into the lands of Men and Elves. They were known to be vicious, and they immediately attacked! [Streets] Nanami shook her head. “No. As it is, I’d feel more comfortable if we went in small. Maghda has a way of manipulating people, bewitching and enchanting them. It is best to confront her with a few highly skilled people instead of a group.” They turned onto another street, and at the end was an old butcher’s shop. Nanami immediately felt the overwhelming sense of Dark Magic coming from the shop, and she no longer needed the device. “We’ve found it… whatever is in there is going to be dangerous.” Nanami was sure of that, and she drew her blade and stepped forward. And yes, it’s going to be the Butcher. There’s no point in my trying to pretend it’s NOT the Butcher, because it’s so obviously the Butcher. [The Mended Drum] Musashi watched as the waitress made one of the patrons disappear into a puff of shadows. He blinked… that was fairly scary. It was clear that this waitress was pretty powerful, and not someone to mess with. On the other hand, Musashi had a policy. He immediately stood up and flashed his best smile to Kyran. “Hello, it is so wonderful to meet you. I am Prince Musashi of Wutai. Might I ask you a small favor? You see, I am cursed with a death curse, but as a Prince I must preserve my heritage… so might we make a baby?” Yes, Musashi is Miroku in this universe, and he will keep doing this. [Vale Ruins] “Whoa…” Felix looked around. The stars twinkled around them and they appeared to be in space. With stones floating all around… and they were on one. “… I guess… we should go to those stones…” Felix rubbed his neck. |

Alexandria Castle Didymus' face betrayed no emotion but focus, and perhaps calmness, as Garland swung at him. So many questions, doubts, issues, tore at him all the time. But in combat and related prayers, it was a mercy...those questions, at least for a moment, were silenced, as he focused on his duty and beseeching God for His will to be done. He moved with an unusual grace, one that he certainly did not possess himself, he moved diagonally to dodge Garland's blow, then stepped forward and brought his own blade up-it was glowing brightly now, white, and he swung it in Garland's face! He was not intending to necessairly penetrate his armor, but rather hit his helmet with a blunt and bright side, hopefully disorienting and blinding Garland for a bit. |

Avalon [Cyrus' Cottage] Sai chuckled, a sound that could almost be light, except with a strange weight behind it. "Didn't really expect you to lighten up either, knight. You try to put the fire out with your own hands, I fight fire with fire. It's not a philosophy that will match. Just know, knight, that as long as I am paid and as long as things are interesting, I remain in your employ." He shrugged. "Besides, I am getting hungry, and I have money to buy food with. Let's get back to that castle so we can place the corpse in a more appropriate place than some forgotten battlefield in the mountains, and I'll be out of your hair until you have need of me again." Looking over at their new companion, Sai turned fully to face the man, silver eyes boring into Samuel's. "Samuel, was it? I will thank you for your help back there, but I warn you. If you take that gauntlet out against me, I will make sure you never do so again. I'm an elf, and magic is in my blood. I do NOT appreciate open cold iron around me. If you can keep that thing away from me, we will get along just fine." So saying, he started back to the castle, Cyrus' remains still floating behind him calmly, a rune glowing over the body where Sai was still feeding magic into it... |

[Alexandria Castle] The moment Didymus’ blade hit Garland’s helmet there was a loud crash, much louder than it should have been. Thick black steam hissed as it shot away from Garland’s helmet where the glowing sword had struck! Garland jumped back and shook his head for a moment. There was a scorch mark on his helmet, but it started to fade. The black steam seemed to swirl around his head, hanging there like a thick cloud. “You cannot win, Paladin!” Garland cried, and he slammed his sword into the ground! There was a thunderous crash, and the ground started to shake! [Avalon] “Enough!” Gawain said in a stern voice when Sai threatened Samuel. “We are in Avalon now, and the laws shall be upheld. Let no violence happen in this land!” Gawain led the way, leading them out of Cyrus’ cottage and back towards the Gates of Camelot. A group of knights soon appeared, seeing the three traveling towards the castle. “Sir Gawain?” One of the knights called. “Knights! Listen well… take the remains of Sir Cyrus for burial.” |

Alexandria Castle You cannot win. How often Didymus had heard those words. From countless elves. They usually said it before the fight was over. What concerned him more were the OTHER things and places he had heard it from. Things hiding in the dark places of the world. Creeping on the edges. Waiting...whispering in the ears of cultists. Finally exposed, at least in some part, and beaten back by Him when Didymus humbly and faithfully called... ...and that was usually their parting comment. After they hinted at a picture forming, something coming together, or something waiting to happen... ...he found himself, at least for now, undaunted by Garland's comment. As the ground started to shake, he actually called out: "LADY GARNET, TO ME! ...my Lord, please, hear me..." He knelt, slamming his sword blade first into the floor-and it began to glow brighter than ever! The light it glowed with began to fill the hallway, shining on all involved, including Garland... ...the last encounter and the result of his blow had made Didymus begin to wonder... |

Somewhere in Alexandria [Strange Dream] He was dreaming. That much was obvious to him from the beginning, and that my itself was a strange occurrence. He knew he wasn't nearly smart enough to tell dreams from reality most of the time. But there was something about this dream... It was too vivid, even if he knew he was dreaming. He was in a wasteland. A wasteland bathed in the light of nighttime, yet it was not desolate. Around him was stone, like passages amongst some labyrinth, for he knew somehow that no matter which way he went, he would find the way to the end. Mountains surrounded this wasteland, stretching as high as the eye could see, so far above that he doubted there were even proper measurements for them, and above them was the sky. Clear, starry sky full of mystique and deeper than the deepest oceans. He knew there were passages to the mountains, maybe even between them, but this place was isolated from whatever happened on the other side. He doubted that getting here would be as simple as walking down a path. As his gaze traveled, he froze as he beheld what was behind him at one time, but now towered in front of him. A massive skull of a creature he could not identify, parts of it buried deep in the ground but most of it showing like an enormous trophy. Statues surrounded the massive skull, straight warriors with stern faces as they watched the wastes like guardians of a tomb. And stretching from the skull was a bridge, made of the magnificent beast's spine as it stretched endlessly into the fog in the distance, a fog that had the vague shape of a massive structure... Then, a thrum. Like a step of a giant, reverberating through his chest as SOMETHING in him stirred. Something old, something much older than he, like instinct but somehow older, somehow more basic. Then another thrum, then another as it continued, like a drum in the distance, thrumming along with SOMETHING in him. He could FEEL it now, the shake in hos bones, the power of each impact like a hammer on an anvil... And he was not afraid. Suddenly, he could hear distant hum. Like a song, joining with the thrum. A song that somehow evoked longing, but at the same time chased away fear. Like it was bravery in the form of sound, courage in the shape of a heartbeat. The hum never grew clearer, but he could hear them. Hundreds. Thousands. No Hundreds OF thousands of voices, singing along with every thrum of the beat, with every giant impact that somehow kept getting louder and louder. The voices grew too, but they never grew clearer, and he still could not make out the individual words. But it was powerful. It was a song so old that it almost felt like he was blowing dust off of an old book, or finding an old sword. But he did not step away, he did not run, he did not sway. He knew that this was not something he needed to fear, for it was a sign, and maybe a test. He could not hear them yet, not clearly. But he knew that he would one day if fear never ruled him. Bravery. Courage. Loyalty. Might. They all made this song, this ancient rhythm that sung with his very bones, his heart, his SOUL. The song, so distant, was reaching a crescendo, never speeding up but always growing. He dared not move, but he stood bravely, bearing the full might of the voices that were singing at him, examining him, JUDGING him and finding something. And then, suddenly, he could see eyes. A slitted pair of orange eyes, immense and powerful, holding within them endless wisdom, knowledge and power. "Heed the call, Umbra Thunderstone. Heed the call of old. Find the Raven. Learn, and call back to us, let your voice carry over mountains. AWAKEN!!!" ------------------------------------------------------ He awoke suddenly, with a shout on his lips, a shout not even he recognized. Sitting still, the half-orc could barely comprehend what had just happened. He dreamed, and not just any dream but something like THAT... He knew that the thrum in his chest would never be forgotten. Something deep within him knew that this was not just a dream. And he wasn't someone who could ignore something like that. Not when he knew the importance of these things. Not when the legends spoke of such things freely. Finally, the half-orc shook his head and started gathering breakfast for himself, seeing that the sun was already high in the sky. A simple meal of softened hardtack and some bread and cheese would tide him over until he reached his next destination. Still, the dream would not leave him alone. What WAS that? What could it mean? He knew it was important, as were the words at the end. They knew him. They spoke TO him. He would answer their call then, for it would be rude not to speak back. But how? Much of it didn't make sense. And finding the Raven? What, some sort of bird was supposed to do something? Ugh, too much thinking. He wasn't smart enough to figure any of it out. Maybe someone in Alexandria would know. And so, Umbra Thunderstone Gro'Malug, half-orc from the northern wastes, continued his journey, mind somehow heavy with a burden he did not understand... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Avalon Sai gave Gawain an absolutely incredulous stare. Did he hear that right? No violence in this land? "... I sincerely hope you are not that naive, knight. No violence in this land? Do you know how many of your subjects break that law daily? Will you be arresting such a massive chunk of your population if you do find them all? That is not a law that makes things better." He shrugged, letting out a disappointed sigh. "I suppose I can't say much though. Avalon seems to be a land of idealism, and I'm not exactly in any position to change how things are done. I doubt I would want to change them either..." He let the remains of Cyrus settle as a knight arrived, and he glared at the new arrival. "This man remained faithful and courageous to the end. He didn't beg for an end, even pained by mortal wounds. He didn't ask for mercy. And he stared defiantly at a beast that would have slaughtered him with ease. Give him a good burial..." He didn't need to voice the "or" that came after that comment. He turned back to Samuel and nodded. "I hate that metal. As long as that gauntlet is kept away from me, I will play nice." |

[Alexandria Castle] Garland stepped back as the light filled the room and he held up his arm to block his line of sight. “You’re beginning to irritate me…” Garland hissed. He stepped forward, lifting his massive sword, but at that moment a door burst open and a tall, powerful woman rushed into the hall with a sword in her hand. Beatrix blocked Garland’s path “Highness, run from here!” Beatrix called. She did not know who Didymus was, nor did she recognize him as a Paladin given his disguise, but right now none of that mattered. Garland was a threat to the princess. “Beatrix…” Garnet frowned, but she knew they did have to flee. [Avalon] “You mistake my words, Elf.” Gawain replied, shaking his head. “Unfortunately, there is violence in Avalon… but there will be none in my presence! I speak to you and to Samuel… there shall be violence between the two of you while you are here. Our destination is Camelot, and you must be at your best manners!” Gawain turned and unlocked the gate, leading the two towards the great Camelot Castle, one of the wonders of the world. A tall knight with long hair stood by the door. “Hail, Gawain of the Round… who are your friends?” The long-haired knight called. “Hail, Lancelot of the Lake. These two have aided me in returning Sir Cyrus’ remains to our land. I have promised them a reward for their help.” Gawain said calmly. “Truly?” Lancelot looked over Samuel and Sai. “Hmm… a stranger and a elf. I would not have expected either to care for one of the Knights of the Round. If you have helped Cyrus in his death, then I shall let you pass.” |

-Avalon- “Hey, I have no reason to be violent to anyone here,” Samuel said, holding up his hands, “Besides, my bag of holding keeps the cold iron in check.” He grinned a little, then glanced back towards Sai, “Though if you were paying attention, you'd probably realize violence doesn't frighten me.” Samuel then followed after Gawain, stopping outside the gates. “I just happened to be in the right place at the right time,” he said dismissively, “I won't ask for much, just a change of clothes.” -Ankh-Morpork- Shades Hotel Room Detrius the troll pulled up his seige bow, taking aim, which would turn the room into splinters. “Detrius, no, you'll destroy any evidence,” Vimes said, pulling out his sword. Detrius sighed, putting his seige bow away, then rammed his fist forward at the nearest spider! Being a troll, he was made of stone, and so he wasn't worried about the venom these things could make. Old Butcher's Shop Angua crouched low, a growl coming from the back of her throat. She didn't pull her sword, but her nails seemed to sharpen... “I smell...a lot of blood...” Angua muttered, “We better be careful...” The Mended Drum Kyran stared at Musashi for a second, then smiled, “I'm sorry, but I already have a job! I'm really sorry about your curse though!” Ben and Jade were trying very hard not to laugh. |

[Avalon] Lancelot and Gawain did not get along well, but both were civilized enough around the strangers. Lancelot gave way, unblocking the door. “Go on in, then. Collect your rewards… and be quick about it.” Gawain merely ignored him, and headed into the castle, motioning for Sai and Samuel to follow him. [Ankh-Morpork] [Shades Hotel Room] The Skulltula was smashed easily by Detrius, but another one scuttled past him and attempted to bite Vimes in the leg! [The Mended Drum] Musashi simply sighed and leaned back in his chair. “Ah… thanks. Well then how about something to drink?” Musashi grinned once again. [Old Butcher’s Shop] Nanami nodded, and then she looked to the door. She was half-tempted to destroy it with a few choice words, but decided it was better to keep that secret as long as she could. So she moved forward and kicked open the door, rushing into the room with her sword drawn. The room was empty, but there was a door at the back. Nanami motioned to Angua and then headed down the door, and down a steep set of stairs. At the bottom, she passed through another door… and into a strange room. The floor was a grate, and beneath it a fire was burning. And in the middle of the room was an enormous demonic creature. The Butcher. |
