Alexandria Castle

The appearence of the strange knight was somewhat surprising to Didymus, but he imagined perfectly reasonable-all sorts of people could be here, this was a castle and capitol building of an entire nation.

He simply proceeded to where he was directed, and stood alert, as if a sentry, trying to blend in. He would walk a patrol route near the door to Garnet's chambers, again, trying to blend in and keep an eye on the area, waiting for his charge...

Garnet was out on the balcony, watching the play with her mother and General Beatrix. Steiner was probably there too.

The Princess seemed nervous. She bit her lip, and looked down at the play several times. Tantalus was doing a wonderful job with the play, as they always did, but she had to wonder if the real purpose of tonight had gone well.

“Mother, I’m feeling a little under the weather. I think I shall retire to bed now.” She told the Queen.

Brahne nodded. “Yes, yes, that’s fine… oh this play! Poor Cornelius!”

Garnet hurried away from her seat, and back towards her room…

Steiner raised an eyebrow as Garnet departed, wondering if he should perhaps go after her.

He actually asked:

"Shall I see the princess to bed, ensure she's properly looked after for the evening, your highness?" to Brahne.

[...]

Didymus thoughts almost always weighed on him. However, on assignment, once he had actually stepped into the field, mercifully, he concerns were much easier to silence.

As such, he was locked on, focused, as Garnet approached.

She was rather pretty, even beautiful, if a year or two younger than he, but he made little, if any acknowledgement of that. He simply spoke wondering/hoping she was in the loop enough about the plan...

"Good evening, princess. Fancy a walk?"

Brahne was too focused on the play to pay much attention.

“Yes, yes, that’s fine… oh my, these actors are so talented!”

[…]

Garnet paused as she saw someone in the halls. At first, she thought he was another Knight of Pluto… but then she realized that was unlikely. Most of the Knights of Pluto were too… un-knightly, and this young man actually looked the part of a knight.

“Ah… are you… from Avalon?” Garnet asked.

Steiner nodded.

"Thank you, your majesty." he said. He went off after Garnet...

[...]

"That I am." Didymus said, not wanting to give more information than was requested due to his caution.

"So again I ask, if I may, would you care to go for a stroll, princess?" he asked, hoping she would pick up on his meaning.

-Vale Ruins-

“You misunderstand...The Golden Sun is not buried here...but the keys to unlocking it are...” the blue haired man said, walking towards another mural, depicting the various elements of Psynergy.

“As for who I am...My name is Alex. I am Adept, like you four. I came here searching for a way to restore Psynergy. Without the power of the Golden Sun, Psynergy will die out in a few generations.”

He ran his hand over the stone work, frowning slightly at it.

“Yes...Tell me, Adepts of Vale. Are you willing to stand idly by and watch your art die? Or will you help me restore this power?” Alex asked.

-Mountainous Area-

The brown haired man...okay I'm getting tired of this, we all know this guy is Samuel. So, anyways.

Samuel was hit by the yellow light, falling down. He frowned, getting back up and reaching into his bag of holding.

“Let's see...It's a creature of magic, so this should work...” Samuel said, producing the cold iron gauntlet again. He slipped it on.

“Keep clear of me!” Samuel shouted, then raced forward at Zeromus, brandishing the cold iron at the creature!

-Ankh-Morpork-

Library

“Ook!” the Librarian said, swinging forward and patting Musashi on the back.

“He says he wants to eat at the Mended Drum,” Ben supplied, then grinned slightly.

You know the cantina in Star Wars, which is a wretched hive of scum and villainy?

The Mended Drum is like that, only a bit more scum.

Crime Scene

“So we have two leads,” Vimes said, looking the key over, “The wizard's machine, and this key.”

He sighed, stubbing out his cigar now, “Let's see...I know this place. It's in the Shades.”

The Shades was the nasty part in Ankh-Morpork. When Vimes was first part of the Watch, no watchmen ever went there, or they'd find themselves short on that precious thing called life.

Even the Guilds tended to shy away from the Shades, though the Watch was beginning to make a little head way into it.

“Sir.”

Vimes paused, turning as a young woman with somewhat wild blonde hair and in a watch uniform stepped inside saluting.

“Angua,” Vimes nodded, “Detrius outside?”

“He is,” Angua said, then sniffed the air, frowning slightly. She glanced towards Nanami, and nodded towards the woman, “So what are our orders?”

“Nanami, this is your case,” Vimes said, “I'd be buggered if I let someone tell me what to do. Do you want to check out the hotel, or follow that machine? You can go with Angua here, and I'll take Detrius.”

Shimera grinned at the sight of Cess and kissed him back.
Chryse waved at Shimera’s husband. “Hello Cess, been a while! So, we’re headed to Ankh-Morpork?”
The older of the two nodded. “Yup. We’ve been thinking of a new home. This one isn’t fit for a growing family like this one,” she giggled as she tickled Riza’s tummy.
“That’s great, sis! But why Ankh-Morpork of all places? Isn’t that a bit of a rough city for a family?” Chryse asked.

Streets

KxS smiled. “Mmhm, Hammah’s pretty smart.”

She just stood by and watched.

[Vale Ruins]

Felix frowned. He knew there was a certain level of truth in Alex’s words… Psynergy WAS dying out. The adepts who used Psynergy were few and far between, and Vale was the only place on the continent with a large number of Adepts still living side by side. Most of Alexandria was more interested in traditional magic, and Gondor and Avalon placed more stock in technology and faith.

“… Well, of course I’d love to restore Psynergy… but what does that entail?” Felix had a bad feeling about this.

[Mountainous Area]

Zeromus turned to slashed at Samuel, but suddenly it stopped. The cold iron caused the creature to hiss, and scuttle back.

Then it slashed at the side of the mountain, causing an avalanche of rocks!

“Damndable beast!” Gawain shouted, and he dove to avoid them.

[Ankh-Morpork]

[Library]

Musashi sighed, rubbing his neck.

“I went there once before… I got stabbed in the kidney by some crazy chick I hit on.” Musashi shuddered at the memory. “But why the heck not? You only live once, and I’m dying anyway!”

He laughed, but it was a little grim.

[Crime Scene]

“… I’d prefer to follow the machine.” Nanami admitted. “Good old fashion police work isn’t my style. Magic is.”

Nanami was the heir of a powerful, magical legacy. Though she did not want to tell that to Vimes, or anyone else in this city. She found it was usually best to keep that secret to herself.

[Alexandria Castle]

Garnet nodded.

“Yes… but first I need to stop and get some things from my room. Please, follow me.”

"Of course." Didymus replied. "But let us hurry. The longer we tarry, the more risky this becomes."

Steiner was making his way through the halls...

Garnet nodded and rushed back to her room, leading Didymus along with her. She frowned… it felt odd to know she would soon be leaving, accompanied by total strangers, but this is what her dreams had led her to do.

In her room, Garnet suddenly ripped off her dress... and was luckily wearing a disguise underneath. Then she grabbed a white and red hood and cloak that she wrapped around herself, and grabbed a short racket she could carry.

“Okay…” Garnet told him.

Didymus stood quietly as Garnet changed. It was a tad unusual, but she was evidently prepared to leave on short notice.

"This way, please..." he said, and began leading her back to the rendezvous point, through the halls...

A short while after they left, Steiner came knocked on the door...not knowing that Garnet wasn't there...

When Zeromus let the shockwave fly, Sai chose the most optimal decision in his case: duck and dodge. Dashing to the side, he managed to avoid the yellow shockwave with space t spare, and launched right back into attack just as the brown-haired intruder launched his own attack, using...

Cold Iron.

Sai HAD t stop at that, ducking out of the way and past Samuel to avoid the damnable object. Cold Iron, the material of fey-killing, and the perfect weapon against any magic-user.

Where the hell did the guy manage to get a gauntlet of the stuff? Sai's curiosity now peaked, he was about to ask the man exactly what he was thinking of doing with that gauntlet, since he didn't look affected by it...

When Zeromus instead decided to launch an avalanche attack. The dark-haired elf just clicked his tongue in annoyance, deciding to ask questions later and fight now, and launched himself THROUGH the avalanche, his maul batting stones aside with little effort. Seconds later, he jumped out of the other side of the avalanche, his body spinning and the maul following the trajectory, gathering momentum for yet another massive hit as Sai flew towards Zeromus!

[Mountainous Area]

Zeromus roared out. Sai had just landed another blow with his maul, and it smashed apart more of the monster’s tough outer shell.

Now Zeromus stumbled back. It was injured, and bleeding from the various wounds… and the presence of Cold Iron was weakening the monster’s magical nature. It stumbled a bit, and backed up from Samuel and Sai.

Gawain, meanwhile, had moved away from the battle. Something else had caught his eye… a very peculiar glow from one of the nearby caves. Normally, Gawain’s focus would be entirely on the battle, but if that glow was what he suspected it was…

He walked forward into the cave, and then he gasped and had to cover his mouth to keep from making any sound. The powerful Knight, who many said was skilled enough to rival the King, suddenly ran out of the cave and he looked frightened.

“Elf! Stranger! Forget this foul beast! We must make haste away from here!” Gawain shouted.

Zeromus spotted Gawain and it grabbed a rock, throwing it at the knight! Gawain rolled and dodged it easily, but the rock flew into the cavern, and Gawain gasped.

A moment later, flames billowed forth from the cavern. A closer inspection revealed that it was not fire at all, but monsters/

Bombs were among the most terrifying of all creatures. They could fly, they were made of a ‘living flame’, and like their name suggested, they could explode.

… No explosive made by man or elf had ever been as destruction as the blast from a Bomb.

[Alexandria Castle]

Garnet followed Didymus through the halls, and she hoped they could escape quickly… but suddenly, the man in strange armor who Didymus had seen, but ignored, earlier appeared, stepping out of a hall and into their path.

“… Princess, where are you going in the company of Paladin trash?” The armored man asked, apparently already aware of who Didymus was.

Didymus simply halted, waiting for Garnet to respond. It was clear that the gig was up, but he wasn't going to blow any TINY chance it had by reacting to just a verbal quip.

“It's...adventurous,” Cess said to Chryse. “Shimera always likes adventure. Besides, I know a lot of the people there. We won't have to worry about thieves after all.”

He grinned, turning back to Shimera and Riza, smiling down at his son, “And we can get Riza here a good education.”

-Ankh-Morpork-

Library

“Ook!” The Librarian said, patting Musashi on the back in a good-natured orangutang way, which was several degrees stronger then a human's.

“He says that if you're with him, you won't be bothered like that,” Ben answered. Indeed, the Librarian had a reputation in Ankh-Morpork. You didn't call him a monkey, you didn't mess with his books, and you never, ever, interrupt him during a meal. That last bit was probably left over from when he was a human, and a wizard at Unseen University, where a man eating three meals a day was considered to be going on a fast.

Crime Scene

“Makes sense,” Vimes said, “I prefer detective work.”

He stubbed out his cigar, taking the key from Nanami. “Sergeant Angua, you know what to do.”

Vimes headed outside, meeting Detrius the Troll, and headed out towards the hotel.

Meanwhile Angua nodded to Nanami.

Angua glanced around, then rubbed the back of her head.

“Can we, uhhh...get outside? The smell of blood in the room here is a little overpowering,” Angua suggested.

-Vale Ruins-

“The Elemental Lighthouses must be relit,” Alex said, “By the power of the Elemental Stars. Which can be found here, under Vale...”

He ran his hand over a stone, pausing.

“You will need a Wind and Water Adept with you as well, in order to get into them. Only with all four Adepts can you accomplish this task,” Alex said, closing his eyes as he focused.

“Wait...you're a Water Adept, right?” Garet asked, rubbing his head, “So don't we just need a Wind Adept?”

“No...I can not. I have...other responsibilities...” Alex said. The stone began to shift, revealing a glowing portal.

“In here...the Elemental Stars. You must retrieve them. Then head to Ankh-Morpork. Look for a healer by the name of Mia,” Alex instructed. Psynergy glowed around him, and the blue haired man disappeared...

-Mountainous Area-

Despite the danger, Samuel grinned brightly, looking at the Bomb.

“Ohhhh, this could be fun,” Samuel said, stepping forward and adjusting his Cold Iron gauntlet.

“Whoever you two are, go on without me. I can handle this,” he said, “Haven't met anything yet I couldn't walk away from...or at least eventually dig my way out of. That was a wild summer.”
