[The District: Office #72]

Connor gasped as he read what she had to say next. He smiled at her.

“I appreciate that… I’ll try…”

Connor paused for a moment. He bit his lip and took her hand again.

“Thank you… so much.”

[…]

A buzzing sound rang through the office. The Peacekeepers were coming to escort all of the Tributes down to the larger Tribute area, where they would all meet, and they would meet their mentors…

Sarai nodded and gave a little smile, until she heard a buzzing noise. She knew what that meant so she quickly moved away from the boy into a corner of the room and stared at the ground.

A few moments later Peacekeepers came in, looking at her before turning their eyes to Connor.

"Please come with us"

Sarai tried to steal a peek at the boy as he was escorted out. Since she belonged to him until he went to the games she was sure to see him again. She decided she see him as much as possible before he left.

Jimi blushed, hugging Kxs back, “I know you two working together will be able to survive...”

He paused, leaning closer and giving her a quick kiss, “I have to go now...I need to say goodbye to Hammah before our time is up...”

“I couldn't stand by and let you go though,” Hammah said to Colette, ruffling her hair, “Besides, it's the job of the big brother to look after their younger siblings. I know Jimi would have stepped forward if he had been young enough.”

He paused, leaning down to Colette, “You know my first Reaping, I was terrified I was going to be chosen. Jimi told me that if I was, he'd volunteer in my place. Make sure that I wouldn't have to go...I wasn't chosen, but I knew, without a doubt, he was sincere.”

Hammah smiled faintly, “So even...even if...the worse happens, you still have a big brother, Colette. Jimi will always be there for both of us...”

“It's...nothing,” Cess said to Shimera, not wanting to worry her, “I just think I recognize a couple of the Tributes, when I go into the District and find people with exceptional skills.”

He smiled to the blonde haired girl, “Speaking of which, I hate to run, but I do have to take care of a few things. Might mean the difference between people going hungry or not...”

Samuel frowned at Rica, getting up, staring at the drunk man.

He moved forward, slamming Rica against the wall, pinning him with his arm.

“Let's get this straight...I know even under the best of conditions, one can't keep a Tribute alive. I've been through this too,” Samuel growled, “But if I even suspect you're just getting drunk and sitting on your lazy butt while my son fights and dies in the arena, I swear I will hunt you down, and regenerative powers or not, I will kill you.”

Samuel glared at the dark haired man, “Do you understand, or do I need to dump your head in some cold water to sober you up first?”

“So even...even if...the worse happens, you still have a big brother, Colette. Jimi will always be there for both of us...”

Colette knew Jimi was right...But still-

"But Jimi doesn't braid my hair, and play dolls, and help me sew and all of that stuff like you do!" Colette sobbed, clutching tightly on the boy's shirt. But the sound of the buzz, it was time for them to go.

"Hammah..."

Colette looked up, noticing her mother finally spoke. Even the twelve year old girl know she needed to give her mother a chance to speak.

Rose moved forward, hugging the boy tightly. "My baby...I'm not going to lie....I'm so horribly scared for you. Please don't die....I don't know what i'd do without you here...I love you..." she managed after a few moments.

Rica just flashed a drunken grin to Samuel. He didn’t seem to be scared in the least of the angry father. Though the only time Rica ever actually felt fear was during those times he was asleep, and dreams of the Hunger Games flooded his mind.

“… I’ve been hiding at the bottom of a bottle for sixteen years… I have no friends and I long since gave up on any relationship that doesn’t end with me paying her in the morning. Death sounds pretty damn good.” Rica chuckled, laughing a bit.

He pushed Samuel’s arms off his coat and adjusted his collar.

“But relax, Hawkins. If there’s one thing I do love, it’s sticking it to the Enclave. I’ll do everything I can to keep your kid alive as long as I can… but you should know as well as I do that whether he lives or dies, ultimately, is up to him.”

[…]

Connor frowned, and he gave Sarai’s hand a squeeze. He had found a friend – the last one he would ever make – and he hoped to see her again before the Games began.

“… I’ll try to win for you!” Connor said to Sarai suddenly, and then he was led out by the Peacekeepers.

“… I’ll try to win for you!”

Sarai gave a little gasp, knowing that was a mistake for him to say out loud...She watched as the Peacekeepers stopped for a moment, before one moved back into the room...And the other left with Connor.

The door slammed behind Connor leaving Sarai with the very annoyed man holding a club.

[...]

The other Peacekeeper, grabbed Connor's arm and tugged him into a side hallway. He was not allowed to kill a tribute, but he could punish them all day for breaking the rules of the Capitol.

And regarding an Avox in such a way definitely warranted punishment.

"Didn't anyone ever tell you that you don't talk to those kinds!?" the man exclaimed, jabbing the boy rather brutally with his own club. "Remember your place unless you want to end up like her!" he added, kicked the boy with his boot. "Think of this as a warning, let a higher up see you and you may get your own tongue chopped"

“I love you too mom...I love all of you...” Hammah said, hugging his mother, then the rest of his family.

The door opened and Hammah stiffened slightly, worried it was the Peacekeepers. He relaxed slightly, seeing it was Jimi.

Jimi moved forward, joining the group hug, looking towards Hammah.

“Kxs and I will watch out for each other...” Hammah said, knowing what his brother was thinking, “I have faith in you, brother...”

Samuel continued to glare at Rica, but then stepped back, unpinning the man from the wall.

“Fine...” Samuel said, “But you better be sober...”

He turned, walking off towards the train now. He was doing his best not to look nervous...He had to Mentor some other pair of Tributes...against his son...

Connor was smashed with the club, and he felt pain radiate through his body as he hit the ground. A moment later, he was kicked, and he groaned and rolled over onto his side. Connor’s eyes welled up with tears, but he fought the urge back and he looked up at the Peacekeeper with hatred in his eyes.

“… and you remember that if you kill a Tribute, you’ll probably end up as an Avox… or maybe they’ll just make your kid take my place.” Connor growled, defiantly. He had never stood up to a Peacekeeper in his life, but he often saw their ‘handiwork’ on people he healed.

Now… Connor knew he was as good as dead… he supposed that for the last few days of his life, he wouldn’t have to be afraid anymore.

[…]

Rica just chuckled and dusted off his coat as he looked back over to Galv.

“… I’ll see you and the girl on the train. Don’t expect me to learn your names. I’m giving up vodka for a week to try to keep you alive, so that’s all the good graces you’ll get from me.”

"Obviously a piece of District scum like you doesn't know how we work here...I may not be able to beat you to a bloody pulp, but no one cares what an Avox looks like for these games. I can always take my anger out on her while you get yourself killed in the arena."

That was how the Capitol did things. They used friends and loved ones against their enemies...

"Now get up and wipe your mouth, you have a meeting with your mentor."

[...]

"Time to go" A peacekeeper stated, coming into Hammah's room to take him away.

Rose inched her way back next to her husband, trying not to start crying again... Colette seemed to do the same.

"Please win Hammah" Colette said softly.

The red-haired captive HAD to stop for a moment, think over what Gallic just said for a few moments to make SURE he interpreted that right, before an ear-splitting, almost manically happy grin split his face.

"Wait, you're telling me that I don't only get a snazzy little place to live in before the games, but you will also provide MEALS? Holy crap, I should have been captured ages ago! I almost don't believe you're a heartless tyrant with a penchant for killing little children in deadly games! Except you do that anyways, so I can't really deny it."

He clapped his hands, almost bouncing in place in anticipation.

"Dang, you treat your prisoners with quite a bit of respect here, Gallic the Mad. Gotta hand it to ya, giving a nice place for me to snazzy in for the last few days of my life? Perfect for some last-minute fun! Now, to order a meal..."

His grin widened even further, if that was at all possible.

"I want a super-sized bowl of noodle soup, as hot and spicy as you can make it without detracting from the flavor. As for the usual meals? Noodles will do. Noodles or some eastern fare: rice, cooked or raw fish, that sort of thing."

He flopped back down on the mattress, moving his back a few times to get that stupid spring positioned in such a way that it wasn't immediately a bother.

"... Say, got a question for you, since I'm a dead man and all, and I won't be telling anyone any secrets anymore... Why did you decide on such a tyrannical path in the first place? A whim? Like seeing the weak oppressed? Or did you decide one morning that you got off the wrong side of the bed and the world needed fixing? Just wondering and all. What with the various rumors going about, I want to clarify some things in my mind before I end up on a serving platter for some Enclave. Or a bunch of kids with powers."

Now becomes the the past in an instant — and everyone will eventually die! Destiny triumphs over human knowledge and goes mad! That is the way of things! I spit upon this frail, crazed, world! I spit upon the Second Law of Thermodynamics!
~ Desty Nova, Karmatron Theory

Let them Label me! Let them swear and curse at me as I tug humanity like a bucking bull into the darkness of the unknown, revealing its secrets to the sane and driving them MAD! In ages long past, I shall be looked upon as a tyrant and a savior! As a savant and as a fool! My work shall advance humanity long past its time, throw it into the unknown future and force it to grow strong or FALL! Years from now, when I will inevitably be removed, my work shall continue to progress, because these things cannot be denied! Governments will publicly criticize my work, but privately conduct research that advances it! I shall imprint myself into the annals of history, among the stars that shine as brightly as Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton, Benjamin Franklin, Dmitri Mendeleev, Nikola Tesla, and countless others! My work will shine as brightly as any star, and I AM ITS CREATOR!!!

Before Jimi left, KxS gave him a peck on his cheek. "I understand. Hurry and get to your brother. He needs you more than I do," she told him.

If KxS had siblings, she'd do everything in her power to protect them.

Shimera gave Cess a small nod. "Okay! I don't want you to go thooouuuggh..." she whined. "Can I come with you?"

Flashback

Screams tore through a cold room where a twelve year old gril had been laying for hours. She had been tied down, but not gagged since she still needed to talk...She had information the Capitol needed.

Questions were being raised: what happened, how a twelve year old could kill two Peacekeepers, how a family of poor merchants could start an entire revolt of a city.

But instead of answers they just got screams.

Sarai wasn't stupid. She knew what was going to happen to her, she knew they were going to cut her tongue out of her mouth. But until she did she was going to make as much noise as she could....Perhaps...Perhaps someone would be able to find her here. Maybe her father would hear...Or maybe her brothers. Surely they hadn't killed them all yet, surely one of them was able to get out and save her. But no one came...And she kept screaming and yelling her brother's names.

Eventually Sarai stopped screaming, having been silenced by a knife and several peacekeepers. She was now silent after a hasty stitching of her mouth...She lied in the bed and stared up at the ceiling...She didn't really hurt, instead she felt numb.

((Tomorrow I will make a thread for it, but just so everyone gets a head’s up, we’re looking for MENTORS for the Tributes! Tributes will be divided into pairs, and every pair will have a different Mentor. If you have a character who you’d want to be a Mentor (meaning they are a former Hunger Games victor), then please keep them in mind for tomorrow!))

[The District: Office #72]

Connor rubbed his mouth, wiping blood away from his lips. He would have to use his healing powers on himself later, but for right now he wasn’t worried about whatever pain or damage this Peacekeeper inflicted on him.

“… I do know this… if I win the Hunger Games, that means I become an Officer in the Enclave… and you can bet that if I win, any pain you inflict on her will be paid back to you, ten times over.” Connor said defiantly.

Connor’s a sweet kid, but he can be pretty vicious if you anger him.

I can't see what you're imagining
-The Capitol: Holding Center-

Gallic was quiet, listening as Lavan told him the kind of noodles and other various foods he wanted, along with his back handed compliments.

“I was not the one who chose this path,” Gallic said, after a moment, “The Games, Panem, The District...in the terms of history, they are rather new, but they are both still older then I. I gained this position because the people elected me, after the former President grew too old to continue serving this nation.”

Of course Gallic doubted Lavan would believe he was really elected by the 'people' but he simply didn't care.

“What had been established before worked. It keeps the District from rebelling again. It gives us strength. It rewards those who are willing to do what they need to to survive. And punishes the weak. Survival of the fittest, after all,” Gallic added.

-District Office #72-

“I'll do my best...” Hammah said to Colette, smiling as he was taken off, sighing.

Cess frowned a bit, turning back to Shimera. He couldn't have Shimera come along, not without telling her he was part of the Rebellion...

“I'm afraid not,” Cess answered, “It might be a bit dangerous...with the Reapings having just happened, the District are going to be particularly angry at the Capitol, and if they see someone from the Capitol out in the District, even with someone like me...well, they might not differentiate between someone like you and someone who deserves their anger.”

Of course that didn't mean Shimera couldn't follow Cess and stay hidden...

-Tribute's Train-

Hammah entered the train, looking around and frowning.

“I guess I should hope Kxs and I get paired up...” Hammah sighed, “That would make things easier...”

Galv entered the train as well, looking for Melanie. They were suppose to be paired up, so it gave him an excuse to at least talk to her, finally...

He really wished this could have happened under better conditions.
