Connor watched her for a moment as she walked over to the television. His eyes went to the screen, which was currently showing a rather brutal battle from last year’s games. Connor never watched the Hunger Games, but sometimes it was impossible to miss the replays that constantly hit the airwaves.

“Yes,” Connor said with a small nod. “I’m a Tribute for the Games.”

He shrugged and walked over to her.

Sarai frowned and bit her lip, feeling horrible for the boy. She knew he was going to die in a fight like that...He was just too nice. She wanted to help him....But she was also afraid to. It wasn't that she didn't trust him...She just didn't feel like dying.

She then took shakily his hand again.

H....o.....w..........O...l...d?

Connor frowned as he looked at Sarai. He can’t sense emotions in this RP, but it didn’t take an empath to tell how she felt right now. With Sencea gone, Connor was starting to think about his impending demise too. He was far too gentle to survive the Hunger Games…

“I’m sixteen.” Connor replied as he read the question on his palm. Then he looked up to her. “What about you, Sarai?”

He hoped he had pronounced her name right.

Sarai perked up a bit, nodding and pointing at herself when Connor announced that he was sixteen...It was the only way she could think of to show him she was the same age.

"...." She didn't know what to do...Usually she waited for people to give her an order...He seemed too nice for that.

She then pulled her sleeves up, revealing several bruises and cuts on her arms. She looked up at him and placed his hand over them. She stared at him for a moment...

Connor gasped when Sarai pulled up her sleeves. She was covered in bruises and cuts, and immediately Connor felt horrible for this girl. What did they do to her? Being an Avox had always sounded horrible, but now that he had met one…

“I’m so sorry,” Connor said, shaking his head. His hands suddenly started to glow with golden light again, and Sarai would feel warmth spread through her skin where he touched. The bruises would vanish and fade back to her normal skin tone, and the cuts would close up and fade away without even leaving scars.

“I… If there’s anything I can do… to help you… I will.” Connor promised.

Sarai gave a little sigh, feeling bad that she was using the boy just to fix her wounds....But also feeling much better now that they were gone. In a hasty motion the girl moved forward and hugged him tightly.

She shouldn't be doing this...She was going to get the boy killed even faster. Despite this she felt better. She hadn't hugged anyone, or even touched anyone, for years.

No, she needed to stop.

Sarai stepped back and looked to the floor, picking up the tin tray from before.

Connor watched as the wounds disappeared from Sarai’s arms, and then before he knew what was happening, she was hugging him. Connor’s face quickly became red and he got a goofy smile on his face until she backed away.

“I’ll take it that you’re happy?” Connor smiled. He looked over to her. “Um… you can stay if you want. Until the Games, I don’t really have much to do and… well…”

Connor frowned. “… It would be nice to have one last friend.”

For the first time in a long time Sarai smiled. It was a small one, and her lips stayed pursed shut, but it was a smile none-the-less. She nodded quickly and sat down. They didn't have much time before Connor would be whisked away, but fr now she wanted to get to know the tribute...

So she got to work. The girl took Connor's hand and started tracing letters at a rapid speed. She wanted to know all about him...Where he was from, how many siblings he had, what he wanted to be when he grew up-Okay maybe that one wasn't good considering the situation. She just longed to talk to someone.

It was a little difficult to read all of Sarai’s questions, since she was tracing them letter by letter on his hand, but he was able to get the gist of it all. He waited for a moment, and then he started to explain to Sarai all about him.

“I’m from out East, down in the District. My parents are doctors, and I work trying to help everyone in my town with my powers. I don’t have any siblings… and, well… I was going to be a doctor when I grew up, but…”

Connor’s voice trailed off. “I… I just can’t believe I’m in the Games… I never wanted to be… I can’t hurt people…”

The boy frowned, looking at Sarai. “I… I don’t want to die…”

“I… I don’t want to die…”

This broke Sarai's heart. She knew that as bad as she had it she would at ;least never have to fight in those horrible games...They'd keep her alive as long as she could serve.

She wanted to help this boy. She didn't want him to have to die. He was too nice. So she focused, and started tracing for ten minutes straight.

She began telling Connor things about the games, things that only the game makers knew...About the new mutations...The new traps, the fact that they were planning on depleting the field's main water sources three days in, that they wanted to send in prisoners to fight the tributes...Everything she had heard in the last year.

Connor was surprised when Sarai first started tracing on his hand. He expected her to convey her sorrow for his predicament, or try to cheer him up… but suddenly he realized what she was actually spelling. She was telling him secrets… secrets that could help Connor stay alive.

His eyes widened. He had a feeling Sarai could get into a lot of trouble for telling him this… in fact, he imagined she could probably be killed for sharing these secrets. His stomach churned, but he said nothing as he read everything she told him.

“Sarai…” Connor looked up at her. “Thank you… but… why are you telling me all of this? I don’t want you to get into trouble…”

-The District: Office #72-

“I don't think Hammah could fight anyone either...” Jimi sighed, “I guess I was the only one who was ever much of a fighter with all of us...”

He stepped forward, grabbing Kxs' hand softly, giving it a small squeeze, “I promise, I'll get you two out of there, no matter what...”

“Hey...” Hammah said, looking up to see most of his family. He paused, realizing Jimi wasn't there, then gave a small smile.

“Good, Jimi went to talk to Kxs,” Hammah commented, “I'd have to hit him if he didn't...”

He was trying to act brave for his family, though it was clear he was terrified. Jimi had made sure Hammah knew some basic combat, but outside of that, Hammah had little fighting experience.

“Hammah...” Agoi said softly, moving forward, still holding his wife's hand, “Listen...you know those...noises you hear, sometimes?”

Hammah paused, then nodded. His father had said they weren't suppose to talk about that, but apparently they needed to now.

“Listen to them...” Agoi said quietly, “Find them...speak to them...It might be your only chance...”

“Because the Capitol are full of heartless people...” Cess said to Shimera, frowning. He paused, something clicking. That girl from earlier...She...she was part of the Resistance!

Cess was one of the operatives who was frequently moving about, and so he didn't have the same knowledge of all the rebels...

But then he might have found some new recruits, if that boy who had been kissing her wanted to help...

“I'm so sorry...I never thought you'd be chosen for this...” Samuel said, taking a seat across from his son Galv, “I thought...I thought because I was a Victor, and your mother from the Capitol...”

“It's okay dad...” Galv said, giving his father a small smile, “I can handle myself...”

He couldn't tell his father that he wasn't planning on leaving the Games a Victor. He was going to make sure Melanie won...Even if she didn't know who he was.

“...At times I was glad you didn't have my ability...you inherited a lot from your mother...your hair...your electricity...your height...” Samuel said, looking back towards his son, “That's going to be your best chance, your ability. You have a lot of raw power, and even if the pylons won't let you access it, it's still helped you in other ways. Remember you're stronger then you think...”

-The Capitol: Holding Center-

“I will admit my current chief of security tends to err too much on the side of caution, but I prefer that then the other way around,” Gallic said, opening up the top of his own water bottle and taking a swig, “As for when the show starts, about a week. The Tributes are given a chance to show off, get sponsors to help them, be the life of the capitol.”

Gallic stood up, choosing to ignore the comment about his odor and familial relations.

“I'll be sure to get you better accommodations before the day is up. You are a dying man now, it just doesn't seem right not to let you splurge a little before you die,” Gallic added, “I'll talk to the cook about your meals. Should I have them whip up some noodles or do you have other preferences?”

KxS felt Jimi's hand squeezing hers. With a sniffle she tried her hardest to smile and put her other hand on top of his. "I trust you can, Jimi. I promise I won't let Hammah get hurt."

She then hugged him around his neck. "I promise."

---

Shimera noticed that Cess was thinking about something. She raised an eyebrow.

"What's wrong, Cessy?" she asked him.

“This seems like an intimate, personal family moment.”

Rica poked his head into Galv’s waiting room. He still reeked of vodka, and his face had that same inappropriate grin he always had. He stepped inside the room without waiting, his eyes on the boy. He knew that Samuel would probably be unhappy that he was here, but he didn’t care.

“I’ll need to talk to the boy. In a few minutes, the Peacekeepers will come and take you to the train, along with the girl.” Rica said, crossing his arms. “So start thinking about what you can do...”

He turned and exited the room with a grunt. He supposed he should probably TRY to sober up at some point to train these two…

The reason she was telling him this was simple. She traced a bit more on his palm, all the while knowing the Capitol could always chop off her fingers next.

I.....W...a...n..t....Y...o...u......T...o.....W...i...n.

Sarai moved back once more and looked down, her long hair fell over her face and she tugged at the bottom of her shirt. She didn't know what else she could say to him.

[....]

"Hammmmaaah" Collete whimpered, moving from her mother and father's side and hugging the blonde boy tightly. "You shouldn't have done that, you're too nice" she cried into his shirt. "You HAVE to win. You have to come home. I need a big brother"

Rose was quiet. She couldn't possibly form a word to say.

[...]

Melanie stood with her mom and brother for a few more minutes before she was told her time was up. Her goodbyes were quick, as she knew if she took too long she'd never let them go.

"Love you kiddo..." Jason said, kissing the top of her head and rubbing her back.

"We'll see you soon Melanie" Kanna added, even offering up a bit of motherly affection in case this was the last time she saw her youngest child. "I promise Rica won't let you die out there...You'll win"

"Of course..." Melanie said stoically, she was much too mentally exhausted to fight them any longer. She now just felt numb.

A moment later her family was ushered out and Melanie was led to a new place, a bigger room where she would apparently get to see the other tributes, as well as her mentor...
