Arena

(whatever you want can be inside!)

Chloe tore into the bag pulling out several energy bars, an empty canteen and a long knife.

"I'll take that"

[...]

Melanie rushed with Galv, rubbing her eyes all the while. The sudden blast of electricity had momentarily blinded her and now she could only see a white blur and a slight outline of her partner.

But that was enough to keep running.

Fancy Party

"I'm glad he turned out alright, he definitely tries" Kanna said,

Kanna stepped into the room, looking to the aging man in front of her.

"Ms. Narroh is fine" Kanna said simply. She wasn't being impolite, but she was still wary of the older man....But she needed to get the help for Melanie so she gave a small smile. "And you flatter me, I doubt i'm anywhere near as beautiful as my youngest child. But I appreciate the sentiment. Anyways, Samuel said that perhaps you can help us...."

"Well too late, he's already worrying me..." Colette mumbled, now sitting bit her father, eyes still on the television.

The Arena

"Then why not use reason?" Shizuo growled. Shizuo's hatred for violence was the only thing keeping him from taking on the girl. He just couldn't bring himself to hit a girl unless he was urked into it. He then drove the sign into the ground and jumped back, landing on an old, wrecked vehicle. He was very skilled with parkour, despite his slower speed.

"Use your strength, combine it with mine...nothing could stop us." He just really didn't want to kill her. "I'd really hate to fight you."

---

Shipper looked down the hole. He jumped up and tapped his feet together. "It worked! Okay, you stay there." He turned around and began to walk toward the nearby metro entrance. "...sounds kind of creepy, in there." He pauses. Well, he would make a fort here! And he'd wait for Aiden to come. That'd be good. He walked back to the water. "Could fish here. Build a wall here..hm.."
--

Giacomo, hit once more, seemed more resilient this time. "You're so bent on protecting this boy. Maybe killing him would put you in your place!" He laughs all too happily and now runs at Hammah, fist poised to punch.

Rebellion HQ

"I understand, sir...I've seen losses from my men back at the desert. The Legion has posed such a problem..and if we wouldn't hesitate, broke our holding power, we could possibly push them back. But..."

He pauses. "Now, this New York place..I think we should gather what few rebels and soldiers are here and educate them on the lay of the arena. Otherwise, we'll be lost in the fog of war...we should strategize as well..I'd be happy to help." The colonel adds.

Near Radio Tower

Grassi was relieved to know she'd help. Now the walk to the tower was underway. In the distance, one could see it standing over the arid landscape. "I know you don't like it, Nanami...but...if we do this...well, I'd owe you and the colonies would be more willing to lend support. It'll help morale and it'll be a shot at the Enclave. A way of saying that we're still here. And hopefully, you'll get your chance at President Gallic. I'll help you get that chance."

The tower gleamed. Grassi grinned. "Isn't it beautiful? A testament to old world communications. Who needed tv when one could crank up a radio and hear their favorite shows, get the news, and hear a few stories? With the myriad of signals at ones fingertips, it's easy to see why it remained a very popular form of entertainment during those times." He clearly read up..a lot.

"For the most part it was intact. I had to fix up a satellite array nearby to expand the signal and we had to clear some debris out and rig it up to standards but it'll prove very useful. We even found some old data-discs with music on them. Think about it Nanami...this is the beginning of the end. This will be a spit in the direction of the Enclave..of President Gallic. And when we swoop into the arena and rescue the tributes forced to fight...then that will be the kick to the shin they deserve. This, Nanami...this is what will get the ball rolling. And it is this that will preserve our names for the years to come." Grassi was clearly very ambitious.

"Picture it, Nanami...picture the future with me. A future where people can say what they want and feel what they want without worry of being beaten senseless by an equal. A future where there won't be a bully wearing power armor, forcing us to pay taxes and looming over us with their bright, energy weapons. A future where our children can freely roam the streets without worry of being yanked away and put in Games where they are forced to fight and kill one another in the name of a corrupted government...it will take a lot of work to get there, but we can do it. Humanity can finally hope again." Grassi wasn't normally good with words, but he had clearly indulged in this little fantasy several times.

Legion Territory

Cole nodded, approached the fallen men. "After someone...I heard rumors that the Legion keeps records quite often. You think any of them have the picture of the guy they're looking for?" He asks. "We'll know to at least keep an eye out for him. Whether he's a friend or a psychopath."

He turns to Nina. "You're the expert, now. What do you think?"

-The Arena-

Thunder narrowed his eyes at Lavan. So this other red haired young man wasn't insane, at least, not the kind of insane where reasoning with him wasn't out of the question.

“...Perhaps...perhaps we can work together then,” Thunder said after a moment. “You definitely seem like you can handle yourself...”

He grinned a bit, lowering his hand, “My name is Thunder. Your's?”

Galv grabbed Melanie's hand as she got near him, pulling her along, then paused.

“This'll be faster,” Galv said, suddenly sweeping Melanie off her feet, carrying her in his arms, now hurrying off. He hoped no other Tributes had been nearby and heard that noise...

“Shiiiiippper! Are you near?!” Aiden yelled in the subway, frowning as she walked along.

Behind her, unheard over the crackling of the fire in her hands, was a low growl...

Maize paused. Team up with this guy? It might make sense...Both had super strength...and there was strength in numbers.

“So, what, you're suggesting an alliance?” Maize asked, raising an eyebrow.

Giacomo came charging at Hammah, who backed up quickly.

Who promptly slipped, falling backwards, Giacomo's punch sailing past him. He tumbled down, falling into the small ditch behind him, hitting the far wall with a thud.

His vision swam...and he heard an odd buzzing noise in his head...

-Fancy Party-

Galvan smiled towards Kanna, nodding his head, “Yes...I can help you...”

He paused, frowning and leaning forward, “But what can you do for me? Or more specifically, what can your daughter for the Enclave? They will pull out a Tribute if they believe they will be good for them. For instance, I have been working on an angle for Galv. He has electrical manipulation. It runs in my family.”

Galvan held up his right hand, electricity sparking in it for a few moments, “When Galv was young I took him in for a measurement of what he might be capable of. His readings were...impressive. More potential energy then even I had. And it's grown now. Enough I might be able to use that to pull him from the Game...But...”

He trailed off, “There's two issues. Melanie would need a reason to be pulled from the Game as well. I do not have a good reason. Young love, or even Galv willing to cooperate with the Enclave completely for her safety will not be viable reasons...Secondly...well...”

Galvan sighed, “If they are pulled out...they will be kept from most of society. They can't be seen again. Possibly even by their family...The Enclave can't very well let the public know that some Tributes live...”

Erin appeared at the party, wearing a green dress and looking worried. She was suppose to be here to raise support for her Tributes...though she wasn't entirely sure how...

She looked around...then spotted a young man, who looked relatively well off...maybe...

Erin sidled over to Jason.

“Ummm...hello...” she muttered.

-Spork Residence-

Agoi winced as Hammah fell, hitting his head hard against a wall, looking dazed.

“Colette...please...” Agoi then said, turning to his daughter, “You shouldn't watch this...”

-Rebellion HQ-

Old Man Sensei nodded, “Do you have any experts in electronic devices? We have young Grassi, and another man, the father of a new member. I suppose it is possible to simply smash the shield generators, but I believe it would be easier to simply shut them down...plus you never know when you need a tech guy...”

Lavan grinned in response, and when Thunder loosened up his stance, Lavan swept into a deep, playful bow, introducing himself as he did so.

"I am Strudel Von Wildebeast the Nineteenth. Bomber extraordinaire, stealer of lady-hearts, eater of fridge food, and your every-day guy trying to survive a lethal game. At your service! Sort of. Not quite yet though. Before that, there's something I gotta know."

He spun around and paced towards the window, walking with straightened legs the whole way.

"What do you think of this here little game, eh? Biggest grade-school skeet-shoot in the world! A perfect culling of the gene pool, don't ya think? Fun game too, lots of fighting, lots of blood, even better with tonnes of spectators! And, of course, can't forget that in the end, it's a bunch of little teeny bodies piled up in a ditch. Perfect afternoon picture material!"

Of course, Lavan was testing Thunder by being nonchalant and praising the competition. He was looking for the guy's answer, and that answer entirely decided whether he would be working with Thunder... Or not.

In the meantime, he showed absolutely nothing about his own status as a good guy. He was putting on the bad guy bluff, and he wasn't showing the slightest bit of concern or care for this entire tournament...

KxS rushed toward at Giacomo and shouted a battle cry to get his attention away from Hammah. She jumped up to kick his head in.

"DIIIIEEE!" she screamed.

Shimera had zoomed up into the air vent before the door was opened. She sighed quietly with relief, but she had to keep quiet. Part of her outfit had caught onto something and it ripped. She'd have to get that fixed...

She bit her lip. She didn't leave a piece behind, did she?

“If they are pulled out...they will be kept from most of society. They can't be seen again. Possibly even by their family...The Enclave can't very well let the public know that some Tributes live...”

Melanie stood stiffly, not speaking as Galvan as he explained the situation. While Kanna was sure Melanie possessed something that made her special enough to be pulled out of the games, it would also mean that she would never be able to see her daughter again.

It was either this or die though....Well maybe.

"I believe Melanie posses two traits that will interest the Enclave" Kanna said carefully, bringing up her own hand. Suddenly a cold dark hue surrounded it. "Melanie possesses the same power...She can alter the temperature of living beings...She could freeze a man twice her size from the inside out.....But there's something else."

Kanna paused and looked to Samuel. He knew her back story, not many other people did.

"There may be a chance Melanie gained an ability from her father." She added, pulling Jason's coat tighter around her shoulders. "Her father couldn't die.....At all. You couldn't kill him, and there's a chance that the same goes for Melanie...."

The Arena

Melanie yelped as Galv picked her up, but she didn't protest since she was currently half blind. She just focused on holding onto the boy tightly. "Where are we going?!"

Suddenly there was an arrow coming at Galv's head.

A tribute (who apparently found a weapon) was standing in the shadows...

Spork Residence

Rose gasped, covering her mouth. She stood up and took Colette by the hand, pulling the girl up as well. "That's enough....Colette come on. No more"

"But mom!" Colette protested, tugging at her arm. "I want to stay!"

"No, you aren't watching this!" Rose stated

"But mom!" Colette exclaimed, looking to her father "Daddy I have to stay!"

[Near Radio Tower]

Nanami was quiet as they walked. She let Grassi ramble on about the radio tower, and the old world, and how this would be the start of something greater. She supposed it WOULD be satisfying to get on the radio and tell the Enclave that despite their best efforts she was alive, and she was coming for them.

Still… words were hollow to her. It was very easy to say a few words, but much harder to do something about them. She remembered words that he had told her, back in the Games as they lay together under a tree. He said he would always be there, and would protect her…

She shook her head, trying to erase the visions of his bloody face as he lay writhing and dying because of the knife Nanami had been forced to plunge into his chest after the Enclave reprogrammed him and sent him after her.

“You talk about the future, Grassi,” She said now looking over to him. “But I can’t picture it. All I can picture is Don Gallic begging me for mercy and finding none. I’m bitter and obsessed with revenge; the future is for people who still give a damn. So you make your perfect future with picket fences and happy children, but first help me clean up the present.”

[The Arena]

Connor looked at their meager haul from the bag, but he supposed it was better than nothing. In addition to the knife, energy bars and canteen, there was a compass and a small, thin blanket. It barely looked like it would keep out the cold, but Connor supposed it was better than nothing.

“Good find.” He said to Chloe, and then he looked around. “Come on, we should get up these stairs.”

[…]

From one of the side paths of the Metro tunnel, near Aiden, out popped two figures – Coral and Van. They gasped, noticing the girl, and both seemed to pause.

Van had found a knife in the tunnels, which he held out in front of them, but neither seemed eager for a fight.

The Colonel nodded. "We brought two engineers with us. They're job is to keep the vertibirds working and ready for flight. Using such technology requires a lot work. But I'm sure with right direction, they can help disable the shield generators."

Near Radio Tower

Grassi sighed and pushed up his glasses. "Nanami, all you need is closure. I'm no psychologist, but it looks like you're lust for revenge is holding you back from being happy again. Old Man Sensei would never approve of this, but I feel like you need to do it in order to get going again."

He turns to her. "Nanami, you're the kind of woman I know who won't stop until she meets her goals...what do you hope to do after you kill the president? I can help you, you know. I can help you get into Gallic's very room. I can help you navigate his personal palace and avoid detection. I can get you face to face with him. And when it's done, I can help you regain yourself. I realize peace is not an option..leaving it all behind is probably impossible for you...I can do a lot for you, Nanami. But I'll need two things of you. Your trust...and your help in building this future I envision..I trust no one here as much as I trust you."

He pauses. "Now, about that message..it needs to be both a stab at the Enclave and a reassuring pat on the back for the districts. Think you can do it for me?"

The Arena

Giacomo, being a career, had been trained in a number of fighting arts and techniques...but the technique of dodging was better than anything else. And that's just what he did. As KxS sailed over him, he took his time walking down toward the downed Hammah. He smirked and kicked him in the stomach, hopefully knocking the air out of him. He grabbed him by his collar and pulled him up to eye level.

He smirked. "Wake up you peon. Time to talk."

----

Shizuo looked down upon Maize, pushing up his shades. "Yeah. We're about even in strength...why fight each other? We both have a message to make sure the Enclave knows by the end of this. So let's deliver it together."

Shizuo sounded awkward in his proposition. His social skills were very poor..and he had hints of anger left in his voice.

----

Shipper heard someone speaking from the nearby metro entrance. He walked to the door and opened it. "...hellooooooo?" He called, hearing echos. "Aiden, is that you? I'm over here!"

Chloe nodded, stuffing everything back into the bag and throwing it over her shoulder, only keeping the knife out and by her side. She was a bit worried that the bag would make her a running target but at the same time she needed it to carry their stuff.

"Remind me later to find some mud or something to cover this bag up with" Chloe said, rushing up the stairs behind the boy.

Flashback

A young woman rushed down the streets of the Victor's Village, where many of the winners of the games resided. She was in a bit of a hurry, having come from across town to see a young man she had been spending quite a bit of time with lately. In tow was a little boy, her son, who seemed more preoccupied with keeping hold of a glazed bun he was eating than keeping up with his mother.

Kanna slowed down only when she turned a corner and approached a little house. She always liked this neighborhood, and often she wished she could have lived here. Maybe if Jason's father had won the Games...But no use thinking about that.

Kanna's boyfriend (and the father of her only child) died in the games a few years ago, leaving her under the watchful eye of a friend of his. Samuel did a good job of keeping she and her son fed and out of trouble, but it wasn't enough to get them a house on the good side of town. So Kanna often made the treck with little Jason to visit him.

"Are we going to see Samuel?" Jason finally said, mouth still full of bread.

Kanna shook her head, biting her lip. "Not today, we're going to say hello to someone else"

That someone else was the young man she had been woo-ed by lately. A not so distant winner of the games, who was probably more distracted by depression and such from killing than wooing a pretty girl with a four year old son.

None-the-less, she often walked by his house and tried to say hello.

.....What? Kanna can be social too! (hahahah)

[Near Radio Tower]

“You don’t get it. I don’t have any goals after I kill him.” Nanami said sternly, her eyes on the tower in the horizon.

She stepped forward down the path, and as usual there was a kind of quiet rage about her. She thought about Grassi’s boast that he could help get her to the President, but she doubted it. She doubted he could help for the same reason she had no goals beyond revenge.

Gallic was well protected… any mission to kill him would be a suicide mission. It was something she was perfectly willing to accept, as long as she could survive long enough to get rid of Gallic.

“I can do it.” She said, about the message.

[The Arena]

Connor nodded to her as they reached the top floor of the building. They were several stories up in what used to be an office building before the Solar Flare event.

The boy stepped forward, noticing something in the corner of the room. His heart fell when he saw it – it was a Pylon, the devices that robbed people of their powers. Thankfully, it was deactivated for the moment.

“Those things creep me out.” Connor noted. He looked around the room, and then he heard a soft buzzing sound.

“Did you hear that?”

[Flashback]

In the Victor’s Village, Rica had taken to staying indoors all of the time. He sometimes thought about going on and speaking to people… but every time he saw people it just reminded him of the multitude of dead bodies he had created.

Rica was currently on his couch, drinking vodka straight from the bottle. It was a nasty burning sensation down his throat and made him feel sick, but if he drank enough of it he would forget the memories for a little while.

He heard a sound and lifted his head up to the window. By now, he had taken to wearing sunglasses all of the time, because he preferred the world to be darker. He noticed a woman standing out in front of his house, with a small child at her side.

It was Kanna, of course. He didn’t know how to think of her. Was she a friend? A girlfriend? An annoying woman who wouldn’t leave him alone? Maybe she was all three, but seeing her son with her made Rica groan.

Rica didn’t want to be around children.

“… Hello.” Rica said, slowly opening his door and looking over to her.

"They are pretty intimidating" Chloe stated, eying the strange device but giving a slight shrug. "But you know what to do so that they don't affect you? Stop relying on dumb powers. Hand to hand combat is just as useful, if not more, out here."

She then paused when Connor mentioned buzzing. The girl went quiet and listened carefully for what he mentioned....Something was buzzing.

Instantly she thought of some sort of bomb, or perhaps a sniper. She grabbed Connor's arm and tugged him into a corner.

"What the hell is it?"

Flashback

Kanna perked up a bit when Rica stepped out of his house, but then deflated a bit when she noticed him so annoyed...She then mirrored his expression, frowning a bit.

Jason seemed to notice his mother's expression, as she instantly looked rather gloomy....He eyed the man and sniffed.

"You smell funny" the four year old stated matter-of-factly. Instantly Kanna turned back to her son. "Why do you smell funny?"

"Jason! That's rude!" she exclaimed, before turning back to Rica. "Sorry....But he is kinda right...You smell like liquor...How long have you been in there?" she asked, picking the boy up but still eying Rica.

-Arena-

Thunder was fairly certain this other red haired guy was insane. How insane depended on whether Thunder could work with him or not.

“The Games are just a way to control people...” Thunder frowned, “For all practical purposes at the moment, it doesn't matter what I think of them morally. Either I can focus on my own survival, or someone else's. I can not escape the Games any other way. I can kill others, or let myself be killed.

“There is nothing to think about. Complaining gets me nowhere,” Thunder finished.

Hammah was picked up, his head pounding as he stared at Giacomo.

His vision swam, and he frowned, staring at the man. This wasn't suppose to happen. Not this soon at least. It was to soon. Jimi couldn't save him...not yet...

He had to do something. He blinked, trying to focus. That buzzing noise in his head seemed to be growing.

“Let...let go of me...” Hammah said, “I can't...I can't die...not now...”

An arrow came at Galv, and he reacted quickly, dropping down but still carrying Melanie, barely avoiding the arrow.

“Darn it...” Galv muttered. There was the Super Mutant behind him, and now another Tribute in front of them.

“Melanie, can you see yet?” Galv whispered, looking for cover, “Someone's hiding in the shadows, but I can't see in them very well...And I don't want to thrown lightning at each shadow...”

Aiden heard Shipper's voice, smiling and hurrying forward, completely missing the door Shipper had called out from, letting her fire die out as she stopped, coming in front of Coral and Van.

She frowned, but didn't look too scared.

“You're not Shipper...” she said, looking confused, “Where is he?”

-Game Center-

A young man walked into the closet, then paused, looking around. Something seemed...off...

He looked around, flicking on the light.

“Something's not right here...” he muttered, staying inside the closet.

-Fancy Party-

“Hmmm...that is interesting...” Galvan said, rubbing his chin, “And those were an interesting two years...Samuel and Rica, two unkillable Tributes in a row. It seems Galv did not inherit his father's ability...but I suppose sometimes an ability can skip a generation or two...”

Galvan was quiet, “This may work... But I warn you that the Enclave will want proof before they pull her from the Games...”

Agoi was staring at the television. No...not now. Not this soon.

He had to hope that Hammah could pull something off. Anything...Him, or Kxs...But neither of them were fighters. Sure, they knew how to scuffle a bit, but nothing like Giacomo, a Career...

He looked to Colette, frowning. He couldn't live with himself if the worse happened, and Colette saw.

“Colette...Hammah wouldn't want you to watch this either...please...” Agoi said, “Go, now. Or I will make you...”

-Rebellion HQ-

“Good...Though worse comes to worse, we should have sufficient power to smash them or the power generators...” Old Man Sensei sighed, shaking his head, “I hope your men are ready...”

Connor didn’t say anything. He was listening hard, and then his eyes began to widen with genuine terror.

“Shhh!” He shushed Chloe and threw his hand down over her mouth. “It’s Cazadores.”

Cazadores are enormous black wasps with orange wings that were genetically engineered by the Enclave. Their venom causes horrible hallucinations, and intense, burning pain. They’re extremely territorial and will attack anything.

And there was a nest of them here.

[…]

Coral immediately looked down at Aiden, and reached for her knife – but Van grabbed her arm and shook his head.

“My name’s Van.” He said, addressing Aiden instead of Coral. “I’m not sure who Shipper is, or where he is, but we could help you find him.”

“What are you doing?” Coral asked.

“Well, we might as well make friends.” Van shrugged.

“Do you even know how the Games work?” Coral groaned.

[Flashback]

Rica looked down at Jason as the boy spoke, and he actually felt a tiny smile tug on his cheeks.

He then turned his focus back to Kanna and he rubbed his neck awkwardly. “I… don’t remember. I’ve been having nightmares again this week, haven’t really felt like going anywhere…”

Rica was still badly messed up from the Games. He had taken to drinking too much too often, and he usually slept through the days. At least, when the nightmares didn’t get too bad.

“Err, come on in. I think I have some food…”

KxS fell on her side when Giacomo dodged. She groaned...the pavement tore her jeans. She groaned as she tried to get up. She was in utter shock when the opponent had gripped Hammah by the collar.

KxS' eyes went aflame. She made a promise to protect Hammah and she wasn't going to let Jimi down. She wasn't going to let Hammah die!

She sent a solar beam to Giacomo's feet!

Flashback

Kanna followed Rica into the house, pausing at the sight of several empty vodka bottles on the floor. She didn't often come into the young man's house...And she had never brought her son.

Maybe she should have come when Jason was napping.

"Momma it's soooo big" Jason said, eyes wide as saucers as they walked in. "It's like Samuel's house isn't it?"

Kanna gave a little nod.

"But it smells funny like he does"

Kanna groaned, pushing a few bottles to the side with her free hand, before taking a seat. She carefully sat Jason on her lap. "You really shouldn't drink so much...."

Ohohoho the irony.

Kanna then looked down at Jason. "Why don't you go play?"

Telling a four year old to play in a house full of broken vodka bottles? That's the Kanna we all know.

Jason gave a nod, hopping down from his mother's lap and rushing off into the kitchen. No doubt going to play with knives or something. When the boy was gone Kanna stepped towards Rica, closing the gap between then. "You don't have to sit in the dark all day alone you know"

The Arena

"What the-mph!" Chloe was suddenly muffled by her partner and now silent. When it was totally quiet she could hear the humming even stronger....And she finally saw the nest.

Chloe gave a little squeak of terror, eyes wide as saucers.

[...]

Melanie rubbed her eyes for a few more seconds and tried to focus. She could see shapes in the darkness....And someone moving!

"Over there!" Melanie exclaimed, pointing to the right. The figure in the shadows gasped and shot two more arrows this time at Galv's legs!

Fancy Party

Kanna paled a bit "So either way they're going to try and kill Melanie...." she said softly. She wondered what the chances were that Melanie had inherited her father's ability...

Oh goodness....She was going to have to talk to Rica wasn't she?

"What will the Enclave do to Melanie, if she's taken from the games?" Kanna asked quietly.

Spork Residence

"But daddy!" Colette exclaimed, eyes full of tears. She started to cry as her mother basically had to pull her up the stairs and towards her bedroom. "It's not fair!" the girl yelled loudly from atop the stairs.
