[Tribute’s Train]

Connor frowned and looked over to Sarai. He walked over and took the trey of bread and cocoa, and set it down on a table. Then he immediately hugged Sarai, feeling like he might collapse if he didn’t have something to hold onto.

“I messed up,” Connor sighed. “I… I think I really messed up. I said something really stupid…”

Rica knew this was a bad idea. He kept his eyes looking out of the train window, and he wondered if he could delay the games by jumping out of the train…

“… When I got back from the Games, Kanna was already with someone else. She was pregnant. I thought… I don’t know what I thought. But she wouldn’t even talk to me…”

Tribute’s Train

Sarai was a bit confused when Connor took the tray and sat it down- before giving her a sudden hug...The girl stiffened a bit and made a tiny noise (just about all she could make) but then wrapped her shaking arms around him.

As long as no one came in...They'd be fine.

She stood there for a moment before finally moving back so that she could take his hand and start tracing letters.

"I.....T...h...i...n.....k......Y....o....u....D....i...d......G....o.....o.....d" she traced carefully "Y....o....u....T...o...l...d....T....h...e....T...r...u....t....h"

[...]

"....Well that sounds like mom...." Melanie said quietly, looking to the side..."Oh geez.....You could be my dad..."

Melanie rubbed her head "Well if it's true....I got to meet my dad for like a day.......What are you gonna do now?"

-Tribute's Train-

“Ohhhh, I like Go Fish!” Aiden smiled, not even batting an eye as Shipper first attempted to explain what Caravan was.

“I wonder why it's called Go Fish though, I mean, we don't use actual fish or anything...” Aiden added, looking a little confused.

Hammah sighed, sitting down and rubbing his head.

“It sucks, sometimes...” Hammah said, leaning back in his chair, “I mean...well...”

Hammah paused, not sure how to explain what he was thinking, “Like earlier, the interview...I knew what to do, what to say. I could...understand what they were looking for. I always could...I may not have agreed with what it was, but I could figure it out. Why I'm good with animals...I can...understand them.”

Another sigh, “I wonder if that'll help in the Games...Never tried something like that with a Deathclaw or anything!”

Dang, now I'm thinking Hammah's gonna tame a Deathclaw and call it Thaddius.

-New Vegas-

“Never lived there brother, just watched some of their TV. Have this thing called The Hunger Games. Tuned in once thinking maybe it was some kind of beauty pageant. Ended up being kids killing each other. Couldn't stand it,” Zeke answered, frowning as he shook his head.

“Not sure if they're any better then the Legion, but they have better tech then anyone else out there. Enclave tech will sell very nicely if you get a hold of any. That is if someone's willing to part with it,” Zeke added, “Even the Van Graffs have trouble acquiring any. But thankfully I got my own stash of stuff, so I'm ready to go if you are. But if you want mercenaries, well, shouldn't be too hard to find any. Could try some of the local bars.”

-The Capitol: Holding Area-

Pibb did not block Lavan's attacks. This wasn't any strategy on Pibb's part, it was simply a factor of age and the fact he simply couldn't bring his arm around to block after his attempted two handed blow.

Pibb was of course in much better shape then most people his age, but he simply did not have the same energy someone like Lavan had.

But he still had some left, bringing his right foot up, in an attempt to kick Lavan square in the chest.

-The Wilds-

Musashi slashed the Yao Guai, the bear roaring at Musashi, before pausing as it looked towards Shimera, growling at the bright light she was producing.

It roared again, charging towards Shimera!

“No!” Cess yelled, pushing Shimera to the side, knocking her to the ground. He turned, the Yao Guai occupying the space where Cess was, the pale man holding his arms up as if to block.

The Yao Guai thudded on the ground behind Cess, not moving, Cess still standing where he had been, something red in his hands.

Cess was breathing rapidly, dropping the Yao Guai's heart to the ground, putting his head between his knees to catch his breath.

“Never...tried that...before...” Cess muttered between his breaths.

-Spork Residence-

“He's lying, Colette,” Jimi said to Colette as she appeared, seeing the worry on his mother's face, “He doesn't want the bad guys to know anything.”

He ruffled Colette's hair, smiling at her, “Hammah's being clever is all. Like when you say you don't know where the last cookie went.”

"Maybe that's your power Hammah, understanding!" KxS said optimistically. "I honestly think that's pretty neat. I've always wanted to be able to understand animals."

That was just another thing she was jealous of. She got this ability to collect solar energy and use it, as well as a talent in inventing. But the one power she wanted as a child was to understand the animals around her. Back when she had no friends to speak of, she tried to grow connections with the alley cats and street dogs. But it always ended up in her accidentally making friends with a rich-man's pet or finding the animal dead the next day.

KxS shook those thoughts out of her head and kept a smile on her face.

The Wilds

As Shimera was pushed away, her solar beam was ignited and it beamed into the sky, burning some leaves around it. She had landed on the ground, as expected.

"Aw Cess, now I have dirt all over my outfit," she complained as she floated to help herself stand up. She brushed the dust off of her clothing, not minding if it got on her hands at all. She then glanced up toward where the solar beam went off.

"I hope no one noticed that..."

[Tribute’s Train]

Connor looked down at the letters she was tracing in his hand and as he realized what she was saying he gave her a small smile.

“Telling the truth might not have been a good idea this time.” Connor sighed, but he was still happy to have her here, even if he was now terribly afraid. Connor was now worried about his family back home, and his new friend in front of him…

“I think I hurt my cause, but I’m still going to try my hardest to win and keep my promise.” Connor told her.

Rica wanted booze.

A lot of booze.

“… Now I’m going to make sure you win this damn game.” Rica muttered, and he turned around to look at her. “I… if you are my daughter, I can’t let you die out there…”

[The Wilds]

“Whoa…” Musashi rubbed the back of his neck, impressed at the way Cess had managed to bring down the bear.

“Now that seems useful... though kinda gross.” Musashi said with a little laugh. “Come on, we need to hurry… Yao Guai sometimes move in packs…”

"Oh..you know, I don't know." Shipper said, dealing the two decks of three. "Back where I lived, on the farm, we didn't have much to do. Did a lot of card playing."

New Vegas Strip

Cole smiles. "That's what I like to hear. Glad to know I won't be dying alone." Nudges Zeke. "But I never lived there either. But I have heard of those games. I don't really watch TV. Mostly just Enclave stuff, polluting the airwaves."

He shakes his head. "Yeah, I think hiring some mercenaries would be in our best interest. More muscle increases our chances of survival. Question is, who in this city would be up to it?"

Tribute’s Train

Sarai smiled, squeezing the boy's hand for a moment before pulling him back over to the table she had set the food down on. The girl knew that Connor needed to eat, she had overheard the Gamemakers on numerous occasions mentioning that food would be scarce in the games...

Perhaps they hoped it would encourage cannibalism in the arena? Sarai didn't want to think of that.

Carefully she picked up some of the bread and gave it to him.

[....]

“… Now I’m going to make sure you win this damn game.”

Melanie looked down, not knowing how to take the news....She didn't know if she wanted a dad, she didn't even know what dad's did...She had only had a mother...And Jason. She supposed he was as close to a father as she had.

"T-Thanks....I really don't want to die..." she mumbled sadly.

Spork Residence

Colette frowned, her eyes still on the television. Hammah didn't look like he was lying, in fact he looked as if he was having a good time being filmed...But perhaps that was just how good her brother was at deceiving the horrible people of the Capitol.

"If you're sure...." Colette said, looking up at her brother as he ruffled her curly hair.

[Tribute’s Train]

Connor paused as he saw the food, and his stomach growled. He took the bread from her and took a bite and then he smiled. After he managed to swallow the bread, he smiled at her.

“Thank you, Sarai…” He said with a smile, giving her hand a quick squeeze.

[…]

Rica groaned a bit and then shook his head.

“… Alright, we’ll need to work on a strategy. If you’re intent on doing this with that redhead, then we should all three have this conversation. We need to find a strategy that lets you win.”

[New Vegas Strip]

Not too far away, on the strip, was woman who looked to be in her early twenties. She had dark hair with long bangs, and piercing red eyes. She was currently leaning against one of the buildings, looking bored. On her belt were two large handguns, and she had an air of danger about her.

“Your power is really cool too!” Hammah said, shaking his head, “I wish I could do neat stuff like you, or like my dad or Jimi or mom...”

He gave Kxs another smile back, “I remember my mom once saying you were like a little ray of sunshine!”

“We always had to do stuff at the orphanage...” Aiden said, “The Head Mistress was always making us clean things or make things. Said it built character...”

She paused, looking at the cards. She had a rudimentary knowledge of card playing.

“Ummm...do you have any threes?” Aiden asked. That was something you did in Go Fish, right?

-The Wilds-

“They probably won't have seen that Shimera. They're more concerned with what goes on inside then looking outside,” Cess said, getting his breath back. He frowned at the blood on his hands, finding some leaves to try and clean it a little. He'd do a better job back at the headquarters.

He then nodded to Musashi, “Right...we better hurry. Come on.”

Cess moved faster now through the forest, looking back to make sure Shimera was keeping up.

Soon...

-New Vegas Strip-

“We could arrange a talent show,” Zeke suggested, grinning, “Winner gets to head into dangerous Legion territory with us on some god forsaken mission to find an old guy. I'm sure people will be queuing up in the hundreds for it.”

He was speaking loudly, so someone near them as they passed by would most certainly here the man.

-Spork Residence-

“I am positive...I've known Hammah all his life, after all,” Jimi answered with a grin. He suddenly picked up Colette, using his tactile telekinesis to support the twelve year old girl, then pointed to the screen.

“Look at his eyes. Hammah never could stop those from lying,” Jimi said, indicating Hammah's brown eyes, “That's how you can tell he's lying.”

"Me? A ray of sunshine?" Kxs asked with a flattered giggle. "You're mom's too nice," she joked.

KxS was glad to know the Sporks. They had always been very nice to her, though it was probably because she had such an unbreakable friendship with Jimi.

The Wilds

Shimera was keeping up at a good pace. Her boots weren't hurting her feet yet, which was good. Though what slowed her down was her fascination with the different trees and other flora that they walked by. It was different than she usually saw and she loved different things.

Colette held on to Jimi when he picked her up, the girl staring at the television screen and looking closely at her brother's eyes.

"What kinds of things do you do when you lie?" she asked, never thinking about it this deeply.

"Different things" Rose answered, her eyes on the screen "Blinking rapidly, looking off in another direction, it all depends"

"Do you think the people in the games will know if he's lying from those things?" Colette couldn't help but to ask with a whimper.

Tribute's Train

There was a knock on Aiden and Shipper's door...Once again Caesar was making his rounds. The man seemed a bit more quiet, worried about what had happened in the last car. He knew the Gamemaker's watched his segments very carefully...

He liked his job...and his head. He would have to be more careful.

[...]

"Fine" Melanie said quietly "I'll talk to him about it...I still feel a little bad just throwing him to the wolves in order to keep myself safe...

But this was life or death. She needed to think like that.

Melanie sighed and looked back to Rica. She eyed him for a moment before paling a little bit.

Uggggggh. Her dad was totally creeping on her before.

[...]

Sarai gave a little nod, now pushing the cocoa towards him...He needed to keep eating so she also started to spread some jam on a croissant for him.

A moment later she took his hand.

"T....h....e..y......W...i....l....l...S...t....a...r...v...e...Y....o...u" she spelled out, before shoving more food at him....Everything smelled so wonderful...

[New Vegas Strip]

The woman with dark bangs paused as Zeke and Cole walked by, with Zeke blathering on loudly about Legion territory. She raised an eyebrow. Few people ever ventured into the Legion’s territory, and fewer ever survived.

“… Hey loudmouth, if you talk so openly about dark things you’re just inviting trouble.” The woman stepped forward. She had a… unpleasant attitude.

“But if you’re looking for to survive a trip like that… I’ve been to Legion territory.” She said, a smirk forming on her face. “My name is Nina. I can show you a safe path, keep you away from the Legion spies… for a price, of course.”

[The Wilds]

Musashi followed along silently. He didn’t like running into a Yao Guai, and now he was unusually quiet and serious.

He paused, rubbing the back of his neck. “I always get lost out here…”

[Tribute’s Train]

Rica turned and looked to Melanie.

“… You should be grateful. That boy is willing to die for you. Most Tributes can only dream of having someone like that for a partner… at least you know you can count on him.”

Rica shook his head. “… You don’t even want to know what most of us have to do when the time comes…”

[…]

Connor looked at the letters she spelled out and he frowned. He knew it was true… there would be little food in the arena.

“I’m not used to eating a lot…” Connor rubbed the back of his neck. His family did not have much money, like most in the Districts, so he would often go without food so that they could give it to their patients.

He took the croissant and took a bite.

“She's nice right up until the point she's very angry at you,” Hammah said, chuckling. Talking about family was relaxing him, letting him relieve a bit of the tension, and it seemed to help, “Once, when I was about ten, there was this bully who kept picking on me. Turned out the guy's dad was egging him on. Mom found out and ripped him a new one.”

Hammah took a deep breath, sighing for a moment, remembering various parts of the past.

“Probably a good thing Mom handled it. Jimi almost found out and beat up the kid...he's protective too...” Hammah added, glancing towards Kxs, “I guess that's how Jimi and I are different. He's more...head on, when trying to confront issues. Probably why he had trouble telling you that he liked you. He didn't want to just bull ahead and wind up embarrassing himself or you...”

“Oh, hello Mr. Caesar!” Aiden said, hearing the knock on the door, opening it up. She had placed her hand of cards down so Shipper could easily see what was in her hand. She simply didn't think that would be an issue, and just trusted that Shipper wouldn't look.

“Are you hear to interview us?” Aiden asked.

-Rebellion Headquarters-

Or at least, the current one.

Cess came to a stop outside the building. It looked...small, on the outside. Not much to say. Most of it was buried beneath the ground, some kind of pre-solar flare bomb shelter. Whoever had made it hadn't gotten to it in time, or simply didn't survive the ensuing chaos between the flare and the Enclave asserting it's dominance in the area.

Before the flare, it had, at the time, top notch security. After the flare...well, it had been easy for Cess to simply phase through the walls and disable any security when Old Man Sensei found it.

Security was always a bit of an issue with the Rebellion. Cess paused, looking around, then plunged his hand into the ground, pulling out what looked like a rock. With a soft crack, he opened it, revealing a number pad. He tapped a number into it, and the door opened. Cess placed the rock back into the ground after closing it.

“In here,” Cess said to Shimera. Musashi, of course, knew what was up.

He headed inside, in darkness, then paused, holding out his hand to Shimera.

“Okay, we have to keep it dark. Don't make any light, or you'll activate the security,” Cess said softly, “Just hold my hand and float a little. There's some stairs.”

-Spork Residence-

“It doesn't matter. They know he's lying too, but for...different reasons,” Jimi said. “But he sounds sincere enough for a regular person, and that's what he wants. He's lulling the Enclave into a false sense of security. Making them off guard, so I can go in and bust him out. Hammah and I always worked well together, after all.”

-New Vegas Strip-

Zeke paused, looking Nina up and down and whistling softly. I have a feeling Zeke's going to get himself punched at some point.

“You've been the Legion territory? Can you prove it?” Zeke then asked, raising an eyebrow, “Any good souvenirs?”

[Rebellion Headquarters]

Musashi quickly followed after Cess and Shimera. It was dark, which always bothered Musashi a bit. He didn’t like the dark, mainly because it reminded him that all the rebellion ever seemed to do was hide… and Musashi was the type who lived for the open battles.

Still, even he knew to trust the judgment of Old Man Sensei, and so he stayed quiet.

“Home again…” Musashi shrugged.

[New Vegas Strip]

Nina immediately disliked Zeke… but Cole wasn’t have bad looking, so she decided to ignore the short one. At least, until he asked her to prove her claim.

“Souvenirs? Actually, yes, I have some. Though only someone with a death wish would carry around anything identifiably Legion in the heart of House’s town.” Nina shrugged. “My place is just up the road. All the proof you need is inside.”

She then smirked, and flirted a bit. “Surely you big strong boys aren’t afraid to follow little old me back to my apartment, are you?”

Because I’m sure no woman in New Vegas has ever robbed a guy by coming onto him. XD

Tribute’s Train

Melanie sighed, looking down. "I know....I should go thank him I guess" she said, looking to the man--her father perhaps-- before turning away and heading back into the train car.

As soon as she stepped in her eyes fell back on Galv....The girl blushed lightly and gave a little cough.

"Uhhhhh.....T-Thank you" she said carefully, feeling warmth creep up into her normally cold cheeks.

[...]

Sarai continued to watch Connor slowly eat, wishing he would eat more. But she knew she couldn't force him so she let him eat in peace, taking a seat and closing her eyes for a moment.

She then remembered what else she had come here for. The girl quickly pulled out a tape measure and went back over to the boy and taking his arm again.

She started to measure him for his clothes for the games tomorrow...Many Avox workers were already busy making them....Her face was a bit pink as she moved from his arms to his waist, measuring...

[...]

"I am!" Caesar said with a wide grin, motioning in the camera and light men who were with him. "Just a few questions, nothing to worry about!"

The men around them started to set up, and Caesar took a seat. "Which of you would like the start?"

Spork Residence

Colette smiled, knowing Jimi was right...He and Hammah worked amazing together...

Soon enough Hammah's segment was over...Rose couldn't help but to frown. "KxS didn't speak did she?" she noticed "I hope the poor dear isn't too distraught...."
