Grassi smirked, looking away. "I knew you'd help me out..I promise, it won't be a waste of time. Not only that, but we can inform the District of things the Enclave aren't telling them. As you know, nobody knows about the Legion's growing strength...this radio scheme is dangerous but it can be a powerful tool."

Tribute Train

"Yes! You can do that. And you have a smaller frame. I bet you can sneak around better than I can...we'll be the best! We'll be at the top..." He smiles widely.

[Tribute’s Train]

Rica frowned for a moment as Nyea started giving Melanie advice. It was a pretty solid strategy… if Melanie could win the hearts of all the single men (and old pervs) in the country, she would probably have sponsors sending her food and medicine all the time…

… On the other hand, Kanna would probably dislike the idea of Rica encouraging this, and the half-sober former Victor was hoping that if he could keep Melanie alive, he might be able to get back with her momma.

“Hmm… I’m not sure. She could also make the women jealous, and they could support someone else instead. I want her to be sympathetic towards everyone…”

“… Tell me something, Melanie… why do you want to win?” Rica asked.

Tribute’s Train

Melanie thought about it, playing with the hem of her dress. "I want to go back to my mom and brother....I don't even care if I win...I just want to survive. I had plans for my life, I wanted to grow up and have a family and stuff..."

Melanie sighed, pushing her long hair over her shoulder. Glitter floated through the air.

Nyea was quiet for a moment before giving a little sigh and a nod. "That's a good answer"

"It's not an answer...It's the truth" Melanie said

Rica paused, watching her for a moment. He pushed his sunglasses back up his nose and then slowly he nodded.

“… Good. That will go well with the crowd, but you need to elaborate. You need to really make everyone in the country feel what you’re feeling. You’ve got to show them how much survival means to mean… how much you want to see your family, and to have one of your own. They need to feel bad for you, because then they will want to help.”

“It is,” Hammah said, stepping forward now and giving Caesar a smile.

His mother had always said people seemed to like him, and if it could help keep him and Kxs alive, he was going to use every advantage he could get.

“You came earlier then we expected, we're not exactly ready yet, you know,” Hammah said jokingly, waving his hand idly, “But I'm sure Kxs and I can prove we can handle the unexpected.”

Galv found himself blushing as well as his shirt was being taken off and pushed into another room to get ready. Thankfully Galv didn't have the scar on his chest like his RftS version.

Instead, in the other room he dressed quickly, wanting to be ready for the interview.

He listened through the door, the others talking about how Melanie should present herself. He sighed a little, thinking of Melanie surviving the Games, going off an having a family of her own...And he'd be dead...

Now Galv was depressed.

“Sneaking?” Aiden said, tapping her chin, “I'm not very good at sneaking...”

She sighed a little, shaking her head, “I can make a lot of fire though!”

-Spork Residence-

“...Mom...” Jimi said, looking towards his mother, a serious look on his face, “If we do this...we have a chance. If we do nothing...we have no chance. And I'd rather go down trying then living and losing...”

“...Jimi's got a point...” Aboy added, speaking up, “If we do nothing...then we could easily lose both Kxs and Hammah. The best that could happen is one of them comes back...and then another six years where Colette could still be chosen...”

“I can promise that we will not make your daughter be in danger,” Cess said, “She'd be kept safe at one of our bases, if you decide to join...”

Shipper smiles anyway. "That's good! If we're in a forest environment, you could burn it all to the ground..and I could have more power...you see, I can manipulate the very Earth we stand on! Neat huh?" He enjoyed Aiden's presence. The difference in age wasn't substantial but they were both equally cheerful and naive.

KxS just kept back. She didn't have the charm that Hammah had. He was an adorable boy raised by a kind family. He just had a face that people couldn't be angry at. KxS on the other hand looked like she was raised by rats. She had a dirty appearance, messy hair, and ripped clothing. She decided that when it comes to communication, Hammah could be the charmer.

Of course, until Jimi saves them.

Tribute's Train

Melanie frowned, resting her chin on her hands "I feel cheep...Telling the world all of this. It's not their business to know why I want to live...That's for me"

"Not anymore darling" Nyea said, patting the girl on her shoulder. "You're whole life is going to be public when you go into those games. Every person will know your business...Everything you love and everything you're afraid of. It's just part of the games."

Melanie gave a little sniffle, her eyes watering. Nyea was quick to grab a tissue and pat at her eyes.

"Darling don't cry, you'll mess up your makeup." Nyea said sweetly "When they come in you need to try to be as deep as possible. It may hurt but it will get you support."

Melanie sighed and gave a little nod. She them looked at Rica. "The Capitol gets to control what I say....Is this why you drink?"

[...]

"Well we do like to keep you all on your toes!" Ceasar said with a smile, sitting down in a seat place down for him. In a matter of minutes the car had been turned into a camera set.

"Don't worry, this really isn't something you need to worry about, we're just going to talk like there's no cameras here. Just gotta get a bit of information for the viewers"

But they really did need to worry...

Spork Residence

Rose was quiet for a moment before giving a small nod. "Fine then, but please promise you won't let her get hurt...She didn't ask for an of this."

Colette, hugged her mother tightly, sensing that the woman was about to cry. "Don't worry mom...It'll work...We'll save Hammah and KxS!"

"....Of course"

[Tribute’s Train]

Rica just stood there, dumbfounded, and let Nyea worry about the tears. Rica was NOT good with teenage girls crying. He had no idea what to do and being (mostly) sober, it made him feel like an awkward teenager again.

However, when Melanie looked to him and asked her question, a rather grim smirk crossed Rica’s face.

“No…”

His mind went back to the Games. The days of running through the desert… the nights of sleeping with one eye open… the screams of the his fellow Tributes as he killed them, and the warm spray of blood on his face…

“No… I drink because of what happens next.” Rica admitted, and he immediately wished he hadn’t poured out the vodka.

Tribute’s Train

Melanie hadn't thought about what happens next....Her mind had been a bit stuck in the present; feeling bad about herself because she had been chosen.

"What happens then?" she asked, swatting her hands away "Tell me"

Apparently it was bad enough to bring Rica to drink.

[Tribute’s Train]

Rica frowned. There was no use sugar coating this… no, it was better she understand how bad it was ahead of time, because she would be living it in just a few days.

“What happens next is the Games… not surprised Kanna wouldn’t let you watch. You’ll be in an arena somewhere, and you’ll have to survive on your own… and if you see any other Tributes, you have to kill them, and they will try to kill you.”

Tribute’s Train

A pit formed in Melanie's stomach. "But I already told you I can't kill, I don't know how and I don't want to! I'll hide! Let everyone kill themselves off"

She knew this wasn't possible but Melanie had no better options....Nopt to mention something else was pressing on her mind. "What happens when...If I win? What am I fighting for anyways?"

Melanie really had been sheltered.

Now Rica really, really wanted some booze. It didn’t even have to be the good stuff, just anything that could cloud his mind so he wasn’t thinking about this conversation.

“… If you win, you can go home and see your family, and start a family of your own. You’re fighting to survive.”

He shook his head. “The Enclave makes the Games happen… it was an agreement when the District rebelled… Melanie, you cannot worry about this. You need to focus on one thing and one thing only… staying alive.”

“Ohhhh, we're earth and fire, cool!” Aiden said, grinning. Now if Shipper and she could find a wind, water, and Hammah heart user, they could summon Captain Planet!

It didn't occur to Aiden that if they were successful and the last two standing, it meant they'd have to fight each other to the death. It probably didn't occur to Shipper either.

“I do wonder what the arena will be like this year though...” Aiden said, tapping her chin, “I hope it's not a wet place! I don't like the water...”

“Well I'm sure once the Games start, I'll be missing sitting here with you,” Hammah smiled, “I bet anything you throw at me shouldn't hurt as much as a knife or a fireball, right?”

He chuckled slightly, knowing he had to play the part. He wanted to yell, to throw something, to curse the Enclave and the Gamemakers, but that wouldn't help them.

“So what do you want to know? I'll be completely honest, except if you ask me boxers of briefs. I got to have a couple secrets, eh?”

Galv stepped back into the room, in the outfit that Nyea had made for him, looking nervous.

“So...how do I look?” he asked, trying to act like he hadn't been listening in to the earlier conversation.

If he wanted to protect Melanie, he was realizing that simply making sure she survived till the end wouldn't quite be enough...but he was still determined...

-Spork Residence-

“None of us asked for any of this...The damn Enclave keeps taking from us, from some rebellion that was longer ago then anyone can remember...” Jimi growled, “They're just sowing the seeds for another one...And this time people are going to just keep fighting. They already know what they can lose if they give up this time...”

Agoi sighed, walking over to Rose and pulling her close to him.

“If I could I'd bend the heavens to keep my family safe,” he told her, “But sometimes we have to take some kind of risks...We risk our children growing up in this world, risk them being chosen for the Games...We risk them becoming old enough for their own families, to see them struggle themselves the same things we've been through...but if we can make it better, remove even just a single struggle for them, it will have mattered...”

Tribute's Train

Ceasar grinned, knowing that this would be a good interview. He always worried that the first tributes he talk to would be nervous or depressed but it alway set a good start when they were actually willing to speak.

"Don't worry, my questions won't get that personal" He said, returning the chuckle and taking a mic that was presented to him. The cameras were suddenly on them, as were the lights...One of them men were counting down...

5...4...3...2...

"Good evening! This is Ceasr Flickerman sitting here with the first of our Tribute interviews! I've only met with this pair for a short time but I know they're going to be great!"

He looked to Hammah "Care to introduce yourself my boy? Tell the world hello!"

[...]

Melanie had a feeling Rica was holding back, after all he drinks entirely too much to have been returned to a life of happiness and luxury. She may have been sheltered, but she was sixteen.

"Then why didn't you go home to be with your family?" she asked "You don't seem like you've got to enjoy your victory...."

Suddenly Galv walked back out, wearing his outfit and catching Melanie's eye. After a few seconds she caught herself staring and looked down. "You l-look nice" she said

"Awww you two look like a perfect little pair!" Nyea said with a grin "Now remember you should get along during the interview, perhaps be chummy!"

Melanine raised the brow. "You were just telling me to survive...Wouldn't that mean we'd have to fight too?"

Awkward.

Spork Residence

Rose listened to her husband before giving a light sigh and burying her head in his chest. "Oh stop trying to talk logic into me...You were always so good with words" she mumbled into his shirt. "Let's just try this before I change my mind."
