N.Y.C.: Streets KxS stumbled slightly as Samus bumped into her. This made her hat get a little crooked. "Oh, no problem," she replied as she straightened her hat. "No harm done." N.Y.C.: Rooftop Shimera caught the apple and bit into it. After swallowing, she hummed. "I don't know. I thought we could use this free time for some relaxation, you know?" She bit into the apple again. |

[NYC Streets] “Still, I should have been paying attention.” Samus said to KxS, before she turned back to Rachel. “I’ll be fine. I was just a little overeager for the new assignment.” She decided not to mention that it had been Malkovich who had personally picked her to go along with the Navy engineering team. [TriOp Labs] “Well, considering how important this AI would be to keeping everyone onboard alive, I’d say your giving up your sleep for a pretty good cause.” Nanami reminded him. Then he went into his little scenario and she merely rolled her eyes behind her glasses. “I doubt the Von Braun will be running into any advanced alien pods… but you’re right, there are a lot of possibilities.” She paused, thinking about it. It was an exciting idea. Then she flushed a bit and shook her head. “I’m not doing this for the fame.” [DC Marine Barracks “You’ll do well.” Diego said, nodding to Didymus. |

TriOp Labs "My work will be done, soon enough. When Delacroix gives the word, I'll plug him right into the Von Braun." Grassi smiles boldly. "A trip to other galaxies on-board a fully automated, self-sustaining space vessel..all in the name of science, discovery, and furthering humanity? I still don't understand why you'd want to skip out." "And, well, you say that we won't..but...we haven't seen enough to know, yet, right?" Grassi chuckles. "Blah, that's what everyone says. Ask any scientist looking for publicity, and they'll say 'I'm doing it for the good of everyone.' I have a theory that all scientists want a chance to show off what they know. I have AI such as XERXES to testify my skills, you your cybernetic pieces...but I guess when you find engines that go faster than light, your call's just a bit louder." He laughs now. "By the way, I have this great idea! It'll be worth awhile. But I need your help; could you pencil me in for lunch? We can talk more there, wouldn't want anyone stealing this idea.." He trails off. D.C. Dine Shipper couldn't help himself. He had to stop for a bite to eat...and of course he would go on to brag about it to the waitress. "That's right! I'm joining the crew of the Rickenbacker. Going where no man has gone before, checking out things, making sure there isn't anything out there." He smiles proudly. In a booth nearby, Violet Basil, a young librarian, rolled her eyes. Men were so weird. She was half paying attention to Shipper, half paying attention to Edda and Paul. Seems like the whole city wanted to board that ship...She wondered if it would all be worth it... |

DC: Marine Barracks Didymus hesitated for a moment. "Thank you, gentlmen, but...with all due respect, you can probably find someome better, at least because they'll be easier to acquire...I might be a bit more trouble than it's worth..." he said. "I know that you hate political fights, sir, but I'm afraid if you want me you may have to wade into one..." NYC Rachel paused. "Well, at least there's no harm done. That wouldn't do, letting excitement over duty turn us into ruffians..." she said. "...though the new assignment IS something to be exicted about..." |

[TriOp Labs] “I had my fill of fame when I graduated with double majors when I was twelve. The cameras aren’t all that glamorous.” Nanami shook her head. “I much prefer a dark little lab with my toys to the bright lights any day.” She gave a small smirk and nodded. “Sure. If you’ve got an idea I’m all in. I just have to finish up working on a few things, but it won’t take long. I know a great Italian place not far from the lab.” [DC Marine Barracks] “I don’t think that will be much of a problem. This is the first manned mission to deep space. That’s the sort of thing that comes with some serious pull. Now if you don’t want on this mission, tell me now… otherwise, you’re coming along.” Diego responded confidently. [NYC] “Of course its exciting. We’re going to be among the first people to see the deepest part of space. Who knows what we could find out there?” Samus said with a smirk. “I’ve always imagined what it would be like…” |

UNN Marine Barracks Adam shook his head. "We need strong, able men. Your political beliefs are yours, we'll never remove our men of that unless they're treacherous thoughts. Speaking of that, Diego, I need to see you after you give the briefing on the Rickenbacker...we've got some bad news from Phoenix." He salutes the Captain. "I'm going to go get some things together." He turns and leaves the room without another word. TriOp Labs Grassi stopped short and shrugged. "I've heard about you graduating at that age for years now, but gosh, still strikes me..you're probably too smart for me." He gives a short laugh, adjusting his glasses. "Sure, sure. I don't quite trust Doctor Miller, that sneak would love to hear about this." He picks up his PDA and, with a stylus, writes down a few things. He then puts it down and scoots up to XERXES. "Alright, trust me this time, this idea will get us somewhere. I think I've really outdone myself." He starts typing in various codes. "Oh, by the way, if you see Delacroix or Korenchkin, tell them I need them here ASAP." |

[UNN Marine Barracks] Diego saluted Malkovich and waited until he had gone to turn to Didymus. He had a frown on his face as he sat back down on his cot and started packing the book he had been reading earlier. “You want to explain what that was? Saying things like that in front of the Commander isn’t the best policy, you know.” [TriOp Labs] Nanami shook her head and decided to let his first comment go by without a response. If there was one issue she did not like to address, it was that one. “I don’t trust most of the people who we work with. It’s one of the reasons I keep my lab under lock and key when I’m not there.” She gave a sly smirk. “I usually try to avoid Delacroix and Korenchkin, but if I see them I’ll pass along the message. I should get back and finish up my things… I’ll see you at lunch.” |

UNN Marine Barracks “You want to explain what that was? Saying things like that in front of the Commander isn’t the best policy, you know.” Didymus straightened up at Diego's frown. "I'm sorry, sir, but it isn't private knowledge. If you want me, you may as well be informed of the price sooner rather than later, right, sir?" He paused. "The fact is, sir, the only reason I'm standing here now is because I was recalled to the city for...court-martial. It's simply a temporary adjournment that gave me time to respond to the all hands call for your briefing, sir." He paused. "I stand accused of dereliction of duty and negligence, as well as murder of civilians. Frankly, the last charge is going to be dropped by any sane and/or fair court, but the fact remains I'm afraid I kicked up quite a hornet's nest, sir..." NYC “I’ve always imagined what it would be like…” Rachel grinned. "I'm sure you have. And you're right, we really have little idea what we'll find, exactly...just try not to run off if we meet a race of friendly bird people or something, would you? I'd prefer to keep a friend around out there, and it would be a shame if you were lost to us." She spoke teasingly at first, then truthfully, trying to be both joking and earnest. |

[UNN Marine Barracks] Diego’s face dropped when he heard the reasons behind what Didymus had to say. He let out a small sigh and stood up, leaving his half-packed bag on the floor. He stood up and rubbed the back of his neck for a moment. “Okay… that one is complicated. Then again, I know a thing or two about… accusations.” Diego was a man plagued by rumors. Not from his own record. He was known as one of the finest and bravest marines in the UNN with a long track record of victory and commendations. No, the rumors were about his father. The founder of TriOp… there were a million rumors about him, and most of them were downright nasty. “… Let me ask you this. Obviously, a pending case, I know you can’t say too much… but what happened to get those charges leveled at you?” Diego asked. “I think you’re worth messing with the hornet’s nest to get you on board, but I want to know what we’d be dealing with first.” [NYC] Samus shook her head and rolled her eyes. Stretching her hands behind her back she leaned against one of the brightly lit up buildings. “Hey, I’m an engineer, remember? The most exciting thing I get to do on a mission is fix the guns of the people who have all the real fun.” |

TriOp Labs Grassi chuckled once more. "Thanks Nanami; I know what you mean. Can't understand Delacroix and Korenchkin's shady at best. Don't forget lunch, now!" He turns away from the door, returning to XERXES. Oh what to do, what to do? -- Korenchkin exited the elevator, brushing his suit off. He knew there were a lot of scientists at work on the various systems of the Von Braun; the smaller ones, or the finishing touches. He patted his breast pocket, reaching inside, humming a song to himself. He slowly revealed a cigar from the pocket, he slowly placed it between his dried lips. He sighed, slightly. It was early, sure, but work couldn't stop now. There were deadlines to meet, and it would only be a matter of time before Malkovich had Diego breathing down his neck. Korenchkin never liked the thought of that brute accompanying them...his father may have been admirable, but Diego wouldn't be swung with money or politics. He grumbles a bit as he brought a lighter to his cigarette and puffed a bit of smoke. |

-NYC Rooftops- Cess smirked, grinning at Shimera. “I suppose so, but I'm just feeling a bit antsy,” Cess shrugged now, sitting down next to Shimera after a moment of looking over the skyline. “Maybe it's just the news of that new star ship...” he sighed, “People bravely going where no one has gone before, all that...” -Diner- Edda and Paul had soon finished their meal, getting up. “Well I have to stop by the university,” Edda mentioned, “My dad mentioned he might need my help on something.” Paul nodded. “I need to head to the TriOpium Labs myself. Physicals and what not, to make sure I'm ready for space travel.” “Just remember to pack a towel,” Edda grinned, as they headed for the door. “Top of my list,” Paul assured his friend. |

[TriOp Labs] Nanami waved on her way out. As she headed down the hall, she noticed a puff of smoke down the way by the elevators. The rules were pretty strict about smoking on this floor, given so many of the chemicals used in the labs could be highly flammable. As she headed down the way, she noticed the smoker was Korenchkin. Nanami was pretty fearless, though and headed over, stopping in front of him with her hands on her hips. “You’ll need to extinguish that. The smoke can react badly with some of the common chemicals being used around here. And a spark could be even worse. Oh, and Grassi wanted to see you.” Yeah, Korenchkin was her boss… but she didn’t really care. [Diner] A young woman with a black suit and blond hair stepped inside. |

TriOp Labs Korenchkin chuckled brusquely, puffing a bit of smoke. "Doctor Nomura..." He narrows his eyes. Korenchkin knew the many scientists present; only the best of the best were here. But no one tried to tell Korenchkin what to do..his amount of pull was amazing. With the snap of his fingers, you could vanish: with a blink of the eye, he could have a hacker drain your bank account; and a simple twitch of the mustache could be the last thing you see. Yet, Korenchkin was in a good mood today and no small-time scientist would ruin it. He removed the cigar, dropped it on the floor and stomped it out. A robot rolled out of the shadows and had the mess cleaned up in no time. He then rolled away. A poor existence.. Korenchkin chuckled. "Very well. Doctor, have you considered applying to join the crew of the Von Braun?" He asks this like it's a challenge. |

I'll bite your legs off!

DC: Marine Barracks Didymus sighed. "Well, I suppose I could say a bit, it was a fairly public operation...sir, I was on assignment on a colony, tasked with keeping watch over local Source adherents...things heated up, some extremists tried to pick a fight, so I oversaw an op to pacify them...but as the skirmish unfolded, I got some strange readings coming from a settlement nearby...I diverted a team to investigate, marines, fully combat ready, and discovered the settlement refused to receive any calls. I had the marines break in, and we found enough banned implants and drugs to put someone away for a LOOOOOOONG time...as well as the people using them." He paused. "Yeah. Intel's investigating, but it looks like it was a member of that OTHER group that Source hates so much. Prometheus, I think they call themselves. The a fight broke out in which several marines were killed or wounded, but a few kills and an arrest later, we were confiscating illicit material and taking a scientist off for interrogation. We finished up the Source extremists and that was that. Until I got recalled to Earth to stand trial." He sighed. "Frankly, sir, I think this is a political fiasco. Some things do seem to indicate that. But...at any rate, that's what's happened. They still have yet to decide the verdict." NYC “Hey, I’m an engineer, remember? The most exciting thing I get to do on a mission is fix the guns of the people who have all the real fun.” "Well, then hopefully this new assignment will be exciting enough for us..." she said. "Besides, it could be worse, right? I'm sure you'd rather be an engineer than an adjutant..." she grinned. |

[TriOp Labs] Nanami knew she was playing a dangerous game, speaking this way to Korenchkin. She… did not care. She was a fearless woman, and one who had little respect for her employer. “The Von Braun? I have been considering it. I don’t believe the application process will be a problem. You know my resume, and you know what I’m capable of.” One reason Nanami could afford to be fearless was because she was very good at what she did. [DC Marine Barracks] As Diego listened to the story, he understood. He gave Didymus a rather friendly smile and clapped the younger officer on the shoulder. “You’ve got nothing to worry about. This is probably a politician grandstanding to get some time in front of the press. Don’t get me wrong… it sounds like things went bad… but you handled things the way you were supposed to.” Diego gave a small sigh. “I know a thing or two about… scandal. Believe me, there was a number of people who opposed promoting me.” Diego did not need to explain why. While his own record was spotless, his father was a well-known man, and someone the UNN did not have a high opinion of. [NYC] “I do admit, I prefer machines to people most of the time.” Samus gave a little smile. “Though there are some exceptions.” |
