Washington DC.

Large, towering sky scrapers loomed over the civilians in what seemed to be another, overcast day. All kinds of people wandered the city streets, just a few of the thousands living in the city. Politicians, marines, businessmen, and even a scientist or two wandered by each other, barely acknowledging one another. It was 7 in the morning. The city had been quite abuzz for one reason, one sole reason:

The announcement of the Starship Von Braun. Last night, televisions worldwide sent out the broadcast of the latest and greatest achievement of man kind. There was now more work than ever to be done: it wouldn't be long before the ship left Earth, after all, to plow through the heavens and see the unknowns. Now, as people woke up, the day after the announcement and parties following suit, it was time to get serious.

New York, TriOptimum Headquarters

A lone man on the top floor was looking out his fogged window. The city below was already waking up, hovercars driving around, people heading to work. He smiled. He walked over to his desk in a strange, disheveled stride. He was wearing a dark grey suit and polished, black suits: on the breast pocket was the TriOp logo. His thin, grey hair stood out in contrast to his thick, grey mustache.

He picked up an audio log, and began to speak into it with a thick, Russian accent. "Log Entry. Anatoly Korenchkin." He paused before continuing. "I told you we'd make it happen, Miri...the Von Braun's progress is nearly done, and now, thousands will be flocking to become part of history."

He chuckles bruskly. "Delacroix doesn't understand just what she's fueling. Intelligent, but her views are dim and blunt...just like that UNN jarhead, Diego. I had a brisk chat with him not too long ago, and he sounds like a complete buffoon..how one man can hate everything TriOp so much confuses me. I know his father had a role in it, but it's still very frightening to think this man will be escorting us."

He looks up at the ceiling. "Good thing Alan's coming along on the trip..he might just have a use after all."

DC Apartment Complex

Loud buzzing and a yawn sounded through apartment 3C. A man woke up, scratching himself. He slapped the alarm clock next to him, shutting it off. Nathaniel Shipper: Or Corporal Shipper, as he was, now. He noticed his PDA was beeping. He grunted, walking over to it. He noticed an audio file that was sent out to the entire UNN.

"RE: The Rickenbacker"

The voice began speaking. "This is Commander Malkovich. You have orders to report to the UNN Headquarters." Shipper thought about it, remembering back to orientation...it used to be called the Pentagon. It was much bigger now, as well..he scratches his chin. "At 0900, Captain William Diego will give a briefing on the Rickenbacker; we will assemble a crew as we see fit. You have your orders - God Bless the UNN, God bless America."
-AM

And so the message had been sent to all soldiers in the DC area. Garrisons elsewhere would come about later.

DC: GNR Tower

"Goooooooood morning DC! This is Three DAWG! OWOOOOOOO! And welcome to your morning reports!" A voice boomed over the mic. Behind the mic sat a disc jockey by the name of Three Dog. He wore a black vest and white shirt; his eyes hidden by sunglasses, his hair hidden by a head wrap, and his chin hidden by a goatee.

"Let's get a goodmorning start with the WEATHER. Today will be overcast, majorly cloudy, and we're looking at some rain in the afternoon hours. I suggest getting your rain coats and umbrellas before ya leave home, folks! Now, how about some NEEEEEWS?"

"Last night, that Megacorp TriOp announced their plans for the Von Brain..erm, Braun...a star-ship capable of traveling at light speed. Know what it sounds like to me, childrun? Sounds like that techno drought is finally over! And with the Rickenbacker ridin' piggyback, it looks like the UNN is right behind them. Now, I've heard many a nay sayer claim that this shouldn't be happening; this is against all ethics we've been taught through life. But come ON. Wake up, America, this is quite possibly the most impressive thing I've heard this far! Imagine the possibilities! Well, let's hear what America has to say. Send in your messages to GNR and I'll get to reeeading them! Until then, here's some music, Bow wow wow!"

Citadel Station

Aaron sighed, looking out the window. He hated his current shift. Working all throughout early morning to late afternoon, he had no time for himself. Citadel was a spooky place, to say the least, considering all the stories surrounding it. He smoothed his black, UNN issued ballistic vest, running his hand over it.

His service piece holstered. He sighed again. The Von Braun was his escape though. The second it hit here, he would be leaving. And he wouldn't regret a thing. Floating next to him was his droid, issued to him by the UNN. RL-3 was his codename, but Aaron came to enjoy calling him Sarge.

The view of Saturn was beautiful, at least..

((Sorry it took so long to post! I wanted to make a niiiice intro and I was writing a new SK&WS))

[Washington, DC: Marine Barracks]

William Bedford Diego was in his private room, laying on his bed and reading a book. His mind was nowhere near the pages, instead it wandered. He was a well-respected Marine, having served with distinction for many years.

Now, he had been selected. He would be captain of the Rickkenbach as they escorted the Von Braun. He would be the man representing the UNN Government on this trip into unknown space.

Diego was proud to have been chosen, but many things weighed on his mind. Chief among them was TriOp, and his father's legacy...

[New York City: Apartment Building]

A young woman sat in her apartment building, doing sit ups. Her short blond hair fluttered around her eyes as she sat up. Samus Aran was a nobody right now. A young recruit in the UNN Marines engineering corps. She had wanted to be in the combat unit, but her prowess with machinery ended her up in the engineering sector instead.

She let out a sigh as she laid back and looked at the ceiling. She did not know if she could find a way onto the Von Braun, but she was going to try.

[Washington DC: Restaurant]

At an upscale restaurant, a young chef was cooking an early breakfast for some of capitol hill's most important people. Sama was hard at work, making a french style omelet for Senator Gray, an influential man from Boston.

Yet even as he cooked, his mind was elsewhere. The announcement of the ship. He was going to need to pull some strings and find a way aboard.

[Phoenix, Arizona: Legion HQ]

In the remains of what was once Phoenix, a one-eyed man walked down a corridor. As he passed, the soldiers saluted him and stood at perfect attention.

Big Boss did not notice them. He had a smile playing on his face as he walked. The announcement of the Von Braun... the UNN putting all their hopes and dreams in the stars...

Big Boss scoffed. It was useless. He would have to prove it, soon enough.

-D.C. Diner-

“So you've been tapped for that fancy new starship, huh?”

A nod.

“Makes sense...you are an expert on languages...they'd need someone like you if they run into some little green men.” He chuckled, his friend grinning back.

“It is the chance of a lifetime...I'm probably going to accept it. And I wouldn't be the only language expert, you know.”

“As you should! But, hey, if they need an archeologist for any reason...”

Edda grinned, and Paul grinned back, nodding.

“I'll put in a good word for you. They might need someone, if they find a planet once inhabited...never know what one might find amongst the stars...”

-Eggman Amusement Park: Outside D.C.-

The Amusement Park opened up, letting in a small crowd who was waiting, robotic helpers making sure they had tickets.

In the large, extravagant hotel sat the owner of the amusement park here, along with several others all around the globe.

Dr. Julian Kintobar, who was better known under his nickname 'Eggman,' which had been an insulting nickname in his past. He had turned it into a marketing stunt, earning millions through his robotic designs and amusement parks.

Currently he was up and about, preparing. Today he would be attempting to sell a new robotic killing machine to the UNN, and was putting the finishing touches on the latest of his E-Series.

“Omega...a fitting name...” Eggman said, looking at his creation, “You should be the last robot I need to build, before I make my move...”

(Yah, short post, but I'll have something better once I make some evil plans with people. XDX )

New York City

In the busy streets of New York City, people would notice a cowgirl hat among the crowd of people walking. KxS was off running some errands. She smiled gleefully, excited for her first college semester later in the year. She just wished that she could move into her dorm now!

But she had to wait. Excitement would just pile up in her young heart for a while.

--

A good few streets away from KxS, a woman with long, blonde hair was hanging out on a rooftop of a huge building. Just getting some sun, relaxing.

She looked at her nails. "Such a pretty day~" she chimed.

Washington D.C.: Restaurant

Sitting at a table awaiting breakfast, a blue-haired boy looked at a menu. His hair was a mess, not used to waking up this early and forgot to comb it. But like it mattered, he was enjoying his stay in America. He just had to keep himself from being obvious.

The blue hair did attract a little attention, but no one has realized who he was yet.

At least, he hoped so.

Washington D.C., Barracks

A man in full uniform enters the room. His stride never broken, he seemed to be fairly militaristic. He looked down upon Diego and clears his throat. Adam Malkovich was nearly always business. He began speaking.

"Captain, you have an hour to prepare for the orientation on the Rickenbacker." The commander said. "Soldiers all over the city should be arriving. Hopefully, all will be willing to join the crew."

TriOptimum - Labs

Grassi sighed as he continued typing on his console. His current assignment proved to be a bit of a challenge: to create the perfect artificial intelligence for the Von Braun. He was on the final line of coding. As he typed it in, his thoughts turned to other things. He knew for sure if he completed this, he would be put in charge of Ops on the Von Braun. As he completed the line, he smiled, inserting the final commands. A face appeared: one of what appeared to be anelderly man.

The AI wasn't able to speak. And he hadn't been added to the Von Braun's main computer. But at least Grassi had the AI and commands down. He would call him XERXES. He knew it would only be a matter of time before a fellow scientist entered the Labs.

-N.Y.C. Streets-

A short man with brown hair moved through the crowd as well. Normally his younger brother would take care of grocery shopping, but he had needed a break from studying, so now he was out in the city.

He wanted to follow in his father's footsteps and be a scientist, to help people!

Jimi Spork sighed, stopping and looking at the list. Where the heck was the grocery store?

-N.Y.C. Roof-

“Little warm for my taste...” a pale skinned man with black hair and green eyes said, leaning against a wall by the blonde haired woman.

“So Shimera...” Cess then grinned, tossing her an apple, munching one himself, “Do you know if there are any jobs for us?”

-TriOptium Labs-

Agoi Spork walked down the halls to his lab. His field was genetics, and with the prospect of going into space, the lab was abuzz. With the only extraterrestrial life being bacterium and micro-organisms on Mars being found, alien xenology was quickly being looked into.

Spork himself was rumored to be asked to go on the Van Braun, but had also been rumored to turn them down, unless his children could come, and if they wanted to. He didn't want to uproot them.

[DC: Marine Barracks]

Diego immediately stood and saluted the moment he saw Malkovich. He nodded his head.

“Yes, sir. Most of the preparations are complete. Once the crew is assembled, I’ll be talking to them and making the final checks.”

Diego was slightly nervous, but also very excited about what was to happen.

[TriOp Labs]

“Not bad, Grassi. Artificial Intelligence is always a nasty thing to code. Don’t know how you didn’t go nuts making it. Still, good job.”

Another scientist at TriOp, Nanami Nomura, walked into the room. She adjusted her glasses as she looked at the AI – XERXES.

[NYC]

Samus headed down the street, a bag slung over her shoulder. She had a few hours to get ready before she would have to report for her new assignment and she wanted to spend them in the city.

As she walked, she bumped into a girl with a cowgirl hat. “Oh, sorry.”

Adam gave a semi-friendly smile that managed to retain formality. "Don't worry, Captain. You'll do fine out there. Those soldiers all admire them, and you will be leading the UNN - and the rest of the world, for that matter, into the future."

"Remember.." the Commander began. "That we're going to need a big crew. We personally won't handpick many soldiers, but if you have anyone in mind, let me hear it now...I have a personal pick, an engineer." He smiled slightly: though he would never admit it, he had a grudging respect for Samus.

TriOp Labs

Grassi pushed up his glasses and blushed, swelling with pride. "Thanks Nanami." he knew Nanami well; cybernetic interfaces were here thing, and he admired her intelligence. Grassi knew TriOp had the best scientists: as they could AFFORD the best.

"I call him XERXES. Part of the X-9000SC series." He offered a smile. "Very intelligent. The finished product will be able to run all of the Von Braun's minor systems. From Public Service Announcements to security turrets. And, if the UNN will give me a chance, I can integrate him into the Rickenbacker, save some work." Grassi sighed slightly. "But you know, XERXES won't get me any attention. No, Delacroix's got the media stirred pretty well. Congrats to her...if only I could work more with XERXES...imagine, an AI with the ability to make his own judgements..the last AI with XERXES's power was SHODAN...they say she was 'missing' during the Citadel scandal."

He shook his head. "But, hey, what's a guy to do...tell me, how's work going over in the Cybernetics Sect.?"

----

Marie Delacroix had always been a busy person. She had recently had a chat with Doctor Prefontaine, the head of the biological sect. And now she was clutching detailed blueprints of Hydroponics, where the Doctor wanted everything. Her work was never done.

She passed before Agoi, bumping into him slightly. "Ah, excuse moi." She pardoned in her thick accent.

Neo Tokyo

A man was on the run. He was clutching a small, laser pistol tightly. He had fairly short, black hair: just like his father. He wore a blue jumpsuit...just like his father. And he had a pair of goggles...just like his father. Ghost was a fairly mysterious man. He was a hacker by name: and he was currently working in Neo Tokyo under the Command of TriOp.

It had been rumored a hacking group had been eliciting TriOp's funds. So Korenchkin himself requested that Ghost go and investigate. It was somewhat humorous. TriOp caught his dad doing the same thing: and while his Dad was forgiven and even offered a job, he didn't take it. Ghost laughed at cruel irony. Behind him? A group of Neo Tokyo policemen.

Diego nodded once more and walked over to his table. He pressed his palm down on the hand scanner of his computer, and a moment later a holographic projection appeared.

“There are two people who come to mind sir. One is a good soldier I’ve worked with in the past. His name is Didymus. He’s dedicate to the military and he’d do well. The other might be harder to get… her name is November Terra, she works for the PsyOps. I worked with her once. She’s the best… but… well, those PsyOp spooks always give me the creeps.”

Diego shook his head. “They’ll do well.”

[TriOp Labs]

Nanami looked at the AI as Grassi explained it. It was a work of art, really. Nanami rarely fooled with artificial intelligence, but she recognized the skill it took to make such a complex thing work.

“I doubt the UNN is going to let you plug an AI into their ship.” Nanami mentioned.

She paused, as Grassi spoke about Delacroix. Nanami knew her, but did not cross paths with her too often.

“Don’t let Delacroix get under your skin. You keep building AI like this and you’ll get your moment to shine one day.” Nanami told him.

Then she crossed her arms and sighed. “Cybernetics is going great. I’m working on some new implants that could increase reflexes by 45% when put in the joints. If I can find a way to make the surgery less evasive, I can probably get that number up to 60%.”

"Hey! Samus, hold on!"

Running up behind Samus was a rather pretty red-haired young woman, her own bag slung over her shoulder.

"You ARE all packed up, right? It would be a shame if you were late..."

She noticed the girl in the cowboy hat.

"Oh, hello there!" she said.

DC: Marine barracks

Didymus slowly approached the meeting room. He had already been called in for other busniess, and was edgy about this new muster. He knew what was going on and had heard some talk that made him...uneasy.

He was wary about his next assignment, but waited, to see what would now unfurl at this briefing...

[NYC]

Samus paused as she noticed a friend of her’s. She offered a smile.

“Oh, hey Rachel! Yeah… I’m all ready to go. I couldn’t sleep well so I packed last night.”

Samus let out a small sigh. She would miss New York, but this was the opportunity of a lifetime. Samus had been an engineer for a couple years now. She had worked on a few Naval ships, but so far she hadn’t gotten a chance to make her name known.

Though… she was unusually close to Adam… but she did not want to think about him right now.

[DC: Marine Barracks]

“Ah, here he is now.” Diego smiled as he saw Didymus enter.

“Commander Malkovich, this is the young man I told you about. Didymus and I ran a few missions together. He’s young, but pretty good at what he does.”

Adam nodded, saluting the young man. "So, you're Didymus. Pleasure to meet you, I'm Commander Malkovich."

He paused. "Diego here has given you a recommendation to be apart of history. Are you interested in joining the Rickenbacker?"

TriOp Labs

Grassi laughed a bit. "Their loss. I guess it's me and XERXES against the world." Another laugh. "I'm surprised they even let me create him...I haven't gotten a good night's sleep in about two weeks since I undertook this project."

He pushes up his glasses. "Sure, maybe I will. I'm sure to get the position as 'Head of Ops,' now, on the Von Braun. I'll understand XERXES and AI better than anyone else around, except for maybe Doctor Polito...and when I do, I'll make sure to get you a spot somewhere. Who would want to miss out on the most historic voyage in the making?"

Grassi thought about her projects; cybernetics, the technological part, anyway, interested him. "You're really something, Nanami. Cybernetics wasn't much my thing, I don't care for biology. Be careful mentioning that to Prefontaine. He'll talk your ear off about it."

“Well, look at it this way… if you’re getting a good night’s sleep, you’re not working hard enough.” Nanami smirked. She leaned against the wall so that she was facing him, her arms crossed as usual.

“Hmm… I’m not sure I want to go on the Von Braun. They offered me a job in the Cybernetics department there, but…” Nanami shook her head. “Who knows when, or if, we’d ever come back to Earth… I think I could do more here.”

She paused, and then cracked a little smile. “Still… exploring space isn’t something one can just pass up.”

Then, she had to laugh when he complimented her. “Thanks, I do what I can. Biology isn’t that bad… when you get right down to it; it’s a lot like a machine. A number of tiny complex systems working together to power a human body.”

Didymus nervously saluted as he was seen, he thought he hadn't been seen by the senior officers.

"T-thank you, sir..." he said, as Diego spoke.

"I...a chance to be a part of history? I...if that's what command thinks I'm up to, sir..." he said in response to Adam's statement.

"Couldn't sleep well? That's not good..." Rachel said.

"But to think we BOTH got this new assignment..." she said. "...was it just that? Hopefully you aren't coming down with something before being shipped out..."

"Isn't that the truth? Living off coffee can't be good for a guy, though." He rubs his eyes. "Hmph, I wish I could say he was done, but not yet. I've brought him to life, so to speak, but I need to design him to run an entire ship! So there goes another two weeks of sleep.."

He pauses in his speech. He liked to get into rambles and narratives. "Oh, but you could do so much good up there..I mean..imagine...the crew of the Von Braun finds some weird pod just floating out in space. We crack it open and find some weird technology inside. And then, everyone panics, can't figure it out...Everything erupts in fire! And we'll all be saying 'Oh, if only Doctor Nomura was here! She could figure this out! Oh, woe is us!'" Grassis smirks. "Okay, maybe that's over-the-top, but just imagine the possibilities!" His voice had a hint of excitement.

"And, I suppose it is. But I guess I'm better off with a wrench and a keyboard." He shrugs, leaning back in his chair. How you work so well with cybernetics is beyond me..you should be much more famous than you are."

DC: Marine Barracks

Adam chuckled. "I am fairly certain if Captain Diego sees you worthy of being apart of his crew, you're worth it. You have any formal education? The more you know, the more likely we can find a place for you."
