Didymus nodded.

"That IS how to spell my name. Thank you, I've seen it misspelled or mixed up a bit before..."

and made his way to the phone booth. Violet may have noticed he did so carefully, checking the booth for traps. When none were discovered, he made his call...ensuring that he spoke so that he was not overheard...

"Yes?"

"This is Lieutenant Didymus. I need to report something."

"Authorization code?"

Didymus muttered something into the reciever, and was cleared.

"Yes?"

"Sir, this is an unsecure line, but I've encountered another man..." Didymus related his experiences of Adam and his description to his CO.

"I see...very well, we'll keep our eyes peeled. You keep yours as well, but stay focused."

"Aye, sir."

"Carry on."

"Aye, sir."

The call ended.

Didymus walked back to Violet.

"Well...Violet, right? Where would you like to go? I just arrived in town today, so I don't know what eatery is worth the money and which isn't..." he said, half-smiling.

Violet smiled and nodded. She gestured towards him 'you', made the gesture of someone walking 'follow' and pointed at herself 'me'. She then made the 'this way' gesture and began walking down the sidewalk. Her hair was tied back neatly and her purple skirt dance along with each step, it seemed.

They eventually came to a small diner called "Waylon's", a smaller place in town owned by a middle aged man and had been around for awhile. She pointed at the place. It was famous for its food, known to be 'cooked just like Grandma used to make it.' She shrugged, as if to say "Will this suit you?" It was amazing how far body language could be used.

She was slightly curious as to what this guy was doing here..mentioned just arriving..having a holstered weapon...making a mysterious call..chasing the muscular man and claiming to almost be assassinated...he seemed paranoid. Maybe a little time with the shy librarian would comfort him? She hoped so. She hoped he could get over the lack of speech.

When Violet indicated the place, seemed to be asking about it, Didymus nodded.

"Sure, sure, this looks good."

He grabbed the door, and held it.

"After you."

He was partially criticizing himself-he was selected because...well, because THIS wasn't supposed to happen to him. That's why he had been picked for this mission, right? He was wasting time, wasn't he?
...but he WAS hungry. And it's not as though they expected him to spend every waking moment in pursuit of his goal, he was allowed time to attend to his needs (such as food). If that was the case, what harm was there in spending that time in this way?

Catastrophic levels, potentially. For a number of reasons. he thought, but for now tried to silence such thoughts and return Violet's smiles.

She nodded thankfully and stepped through the door. The owner, a tall man with salt and peppered hair, Mr. Duke Waylon stood behind a counter. He smiled as the two walked through and called up a waitress. There were a number of people eating already. She sat down at a table and sighed gratefully.

She took out her notepad and began writing down words..therefore, she would have something to talk to him about before they had to order. She wrote quietly, quickly.

Didymus sat down across the table from Violet and faced her, sitting quietly as she wrote, eying his surroundings, waiting for her to finish.

The Crazy One

[Henry Jones' Home]

Not far outside of the city, lived Henry Jones Sr. An elderly man and a scholar, he was a well-known expert on the Crusades, ancient civilizations and Biblical studies. He was also the father of a certain college professor (slash globe trotting adventurer).

The elder Doctor Jones did not leave home much these days, always shutting himself away in his study.

Which is why his son, Indiana, became concerned as he and the man from the government came up in the driveway. The front door was open... and Indy immediately jumped from the car. He moved cautiously towards the house.

“Something wrong, Dr. Jones?” The agent asked.

“Yes. My dad would never leave the front door open.” Indy frowned. He moved in a way that showed the man had experience in dangerous situations. Cautiously, he approached the door and then looked inside.

Indy gasped at the sigh.

The inside of his father's house was ransacked. Papers were scattered on the floors, bookshelves turned over, and what appeared to be scorch marks were prevalent on the floors and walls.

“Dad?” Indy called out. “Dad?!”

There was no answer. After a quick search, Indy and the agent found the house entirely empty.

“... Doctor Jones... there were similar burn marks found in the home of the German scholar who went missing.” The agent frowned.

“... Damn it.” Indiana crossed his arms. “... Alright. I'm in. For whatever damn investigation Uncle Sam wants... but I'm doing this to find my father.”

“Understood, Dr. Jones.” The agent nodded. “We should report to the OSS office in New York--”

“I need to go back to my office first and get my things.” Indiana frowned.

Violet finished, smiled, tore out the page and handed it to him. It read;

"Perhaps a more proper introduction is in order. My name is Violet Basil, librarian here in this wonderful city. I cannot speak, as you have noticed before. Born without the ability, I'm afraid. Pardon my curiousity, but what brings you around here? Are you a soldier?"

A waitress came up to the two, her name tag read Tessie. Surely she wasn't more than nineteen. She was chewing bubblegum. "Hello, I'm Tessie, and I'll be serving y'all this afternoon." She said with a thick, southern accent. "What drinks can I start you off with?" She asked, taking out a notepad.

Violet wrote down 'water' on her notebook and showed her, to which she nodded. "And for you?"

Didymus read the note, and nodded.

"Again, a pleasure to meet you, Ms. Basil. Again, I'm Didymus (lastname). (XD) In response to your question...yes, I AM a solder. Or a Marine, to be precise. I work normally up in DC, but busniess has brought me to New York for a time..."

"And for you?"

"I'll take a water as well, thanks."

Tessie the Waitress nodded and walked back to the kitchen with bounce in her step. Violet nodded to Didymus, to continue, and she began writing in her notepad again. She was interested into WHY he was here..it did prove her suspicion was correct..something was happening.

It seemed Violet wanted him to keep speaking...

"...I'm sorry if...you seemed to have noticed my firearm...I'm sorry if that gave you a bit of a fright, but I AM authorized to carry it...I was just hoping I wouldn't have a use for it, not here in our own borders at least..."

She smiled and handwaved..meaning it wasn't a big concern to her...that was just to keep him from feeling unwanted. She was afraid at first, but now she decided he was a defender. She handed him the note.

'Interesting. But I suppose the man you were chasing was a criminal..which means we could be in trouble..right? You don't have to answer, I'm sure it's classified anyways. How do you like the city so far?'

Didymus paused, looking over the note.

"As for that man...I don't know what his aim is. Just...tell the authroities if you see him. I called it in, so I'm hoping that we may be on the lookout for him...but anyway...how do I like the city? I don't know..."

He paused.

"I generally am not a big-city type, myself, but I got used to living in DC. Even so, this is a far cry. Things are more...I don't know. Show biz is bigger here, obviously...I'm a tad disoriented, but that may have something to do with the fact that I arrived just today...is it a nice place to live?"

She took some more time to write a note. She tore it out and handed it to him.

'At times, it's a gorgeous place. At the same time, there are some shady characters running around. A lot of sea salts living out by the harbor..and...well, some thugs hang out in the alleys..but a bunch of people are friendly. She smiles. 'You can visit the library anytime you want.'

Tessie returned with two waters and looked at the two. "Special catch of the day is Salmon; we're serving burgers all night. Are you two ready to order?" She asks, raising an eyebrow.

Violet looked to see what he said.

Didymus eyed the note as Violet smiled at him.

"Sounds like a place one could make a life in. Not sure if I'd prefer living here myself, but again, sounds like many certainly could...and do." he chuckled.

"Visit the library anytime I want? ...is that a statement, or an invitation, if I may ask?"

When Tessie returned, Didymus thanked her, then spoke as Violet eyed him.

"I am if the lady is." he said.

She nods and hands the waitress a slip of paper. All Violet wanted was a salad. She wasn't trying to lose her weight; she was very attractive, still an appealing age. She simply had a nice breakfast and wanted a light lunch.

Tessie wrote down her order in her own notebook and turned to Didymus. "And what shall the man be having this evening?"

Violet was now scribbling down some more conversation. Speaking through notes could be inconvienient, at times.
