GRAPPLING HOOK!

Old Man Sensei's House of Butt Whoop

Adrianna let out a sigh of relief when she was granted the use of her limbs again, though almost immediately she attempted to break out of her brother's grip and tear his teacher limb by limb.

"So what?! I'll just kick him in the shins and be done with it!" The girl exclaimed "The old man's probably just dust by now!"

Umm...No.

Streets

Jason paled a bit, looking over to the children his wife had spotted in the distance. Every time the woman saw children this would happen, leading the man to try and avoid massive gathering of babies like the black death.

It wasn't that he didn't like children, on the contrary! It was just that he was quite happy with his only child being out of the house leaving he and Erin to do whatever they wanted.

"Maybe sometime" he answered like every time before

The Ritz

Kanna raised a brow at this man, curious to why he was being so friendly around her...Pegging it on her attire the woman gave a short smile. "England? It's been quite awhile since i've traveled there. I came here to work"

This wasn't exactly a lie, but Kanna didn't want to mention that she had family in the area.

"A cocktail lounge not too far away needed a singer, I heard that America is the land of opportunities so I decided to take the chance."

she then looked down at her watch "I suppose I have a bit of time for a meal. Perhaps we could go somewhere down Broadway. I've always wanted to see the theater district"

She also had to keep on schedule.

Central Park

Joyce blinked, not expecting such an insightful answer from such a sudden question. The girl quickly started to jot down what Diana was saying, obviously not paying attention to how distressed it was making the girl.

"I'm sorry, could we talk about something else?"

Joyce looked up, frowning a bit and placing her pen down. "Sorry, I suppose that was a bit out of line...Though I must say I don't usually get views quite like that. Most people are flat out in denial"

Broadway Coffee House

Once again Crystal couldn't help but to giggle. This guy was certainly strange...But he did have a lot of intresting stories to tell. These were the kinds of stories that would probably be important later on...

"Well if I ever go to Paris I would love a guide. You know, the kind of guy who has been all over the world solving mysteries and putting bad guys away!"

I can't see what you're imagining
-Old Man Sensei's House of Butt Whoop-

Old Man Sensei was quiet again, thinking.

“I can not give you an answer,” Old Man finally said, after a minute, “That would defeat the purpose of advice. This is a decision you must ultimately make for yourself.

“I could not believe that any person could be infallible. That is why I came here, from Asia. But I have also seen both the good...and the bad...of following someone who the people believe can not make mistakes. After all...to err is human.”

Old Man sighed softly, shaking his head, “I am sorry if it seems you have come all this way for no answer. All I can do is place you on the right path for yourself...

“As it is...you are already at war with China. Germany is expanding quite aggressively, and I do not think that the rest of Europe will continue to allow it for much longer. If you do enter into a treaty with Germany, I urge caution and use of wit, over use of force and brutality. However, if you go against your father, I recommend the same. Your country has been trying to expand greatly in the past years, hence your invasion of China. It seems last year, Japan began a full front assault on China, after years of smaller fights,” Old Man Sensei said, then leaned closer to Musashi.

“If you chose to go against your father, if you choose to go against war, you are also going against what your country has been pursuing for almost a decade now. Expansion, resources, etc. Success in war means goodwill...for your own country. It also means the misfortune of people forced into your nation.

“If you take your own path, you will undoubtedly doom your country to stay within it's island confines. You can not disregard one brutality and turn a blind eye to your own,” Old Man Sensei continued, then frowned, standing up and walking over to a small office.

“History has shown us that the winner is the one with the most resources, the best trained force, and the largest military. The League of Nations, while an admirable effort, was doomed to failure on the politically, without the backing of the United States and the Soviet Union...” Old Man said, opening the door to his office.

“So, young Musashi, it boils down to this. You can continue down the old path, of war and conquest, glory for your nation...Or you can try a new path, one less traveled,” Old Man finished, “War can bring you resources, glory, and turn Japan into a world power. But it can also bring death, destruction, and the blood of many on your hands. And the path less traveled...well...I can not know. It may bring you good fortune, and the help of other nations abroad, but it is a much longer road, and there is a reason some paths are less traveled.”

He sighed softly. “Now then, if you all care to stay a little longer, I can brew you all up some tea.”

Aaron paused, glancing to Musashi, then back to his sister, frowning.

“Sis, Sensei's trying to give him advice...” Aaron whispered to her, pausing, “I think he's like, the prince of Japan or something...”

Why do I have the horrible feeling Adrianna would try and flirt with him now?

-Streets-

Erin frowned slightly.

“You always say that, dear,” Erin said, “Don't you want a son too?”

-The Ritz-

“If you have the right skills, America is your oyster,” Samuel grinned, then held out his arm for Kanna to take, “And you're a singer? I may have to accompany you to this cocktail lounge later to hear you. I bet you have a lovely voice.”

Samuel then looked down Broadway, and nodded, “Alright, down Broadway it is! If you see a place you want to try, let me know. My treat.”

[Old Man Sensei's House of Butt Whoop]

Musashi let out a small sigh and nodded to Old Man Sensei. He knew that everything his teacher said was true... reality was, the war was something his country wanted. They sought the power and glory it would bring...

“... I am not against the idea of war.” Musashi admitted. “I do want to see us grow strong... I want to see our empire expand, and to bring in a better era for my people... but at the same time... I fear this war, this alliance... I cannot explain every reason why, but...”

Musashi paused and nodded. “Thank you, sensei. I appreciate what you've said...”

The young Captain seemed lost in thought.

[Broadway Coffee House]

Sama gave a grin and took a sip of his coffee. Somehow, this day was taking the strangest – and most awesome – turn.

“Well I could be your guide. I'd be delighted too.” Sama grinned. “In the meantime, though, if you'd like... next time I get a case, maybe you could come along and I can show you the ins and outs of a investigation!”

Streets

Didymus was chasing Adam through the streets, running along and asking if anyone had seen anybody with his description running by.

He followed his trail, but exhibited what caution he could while making haste. He didn't wish to be ambushed...

Eventually, the trail of witnesses seemed to grow cold around a pair of alleys...

He was wary, and looked around, fingering his revolver...(which had been slipped into his vest)...

Central Park

"Sorry, I suppose that was a bit out of line...Though I must say I don't usually get views quite like that. Most people are flat out in denial"

Diana paused.

"Ignorance is bliss, so they say..." she said. "...so, do you ask people such questions often...?"

Violet walked down the sidewalk..dark and pertrubing, she was put off by the various thugs who were hiding..watching. She clutched her book tighter, not wanting to lose it. Not here, not in this neighborhood..she then bumped into Didymus.

She flushes red, dropping her book like that. A man with a gun! Wait..he didn't look like a hood. She sighed silently and picked up her book, then nodded gently. She tried some sign language to see if he understood.

[Streets]

Adamska had gotten fortunate. On one of the streets, he found a phone booth and quickly slipped inside. Looking around warily, he quickly put some change in the phone and dialed a number. After a moment, a voice picked up on the other line – an unhappy voice.

“You aren't supposed to call this number from an insecure line, Adam.”

Adamska groaned. “Didn't have a choice. I'm being pursued by an American federal agent. Don't know if I can shake him. I might have to kill him.”

The response was immediate. “Negative! Killing a federal agent is absolutely forbidden unless you absolutely have to.”

Adamska swore – in Russian.

“Fine. I still want to talk to him later.” Adamska hung up the phone, and then he spotted Didymus – being bumped into by a girl. He smirked, and headed out into the crowd to blend in.

"BAH!" Didymus cried, as Violet crashed into him!

He eyed her for a moment, then looked about frantically, trying to find Adam!

"Arg...did you see-"

This woman was now performing sign language...and she hadn't made a sound...he thought he realized what was going on here.

"I'm sorry, I don't understand..." he said, a tad embarrassed.

He got out a notepad.

"But did you see someone come by this way who looked..."

He described Adam, then offered her the pencil and paper.

Violet tapped the pencil against her paper for a bit. Then wrote down the words "Was heading through the crowd before I bumped into you. Seemed to be running away. Don't know where he went, seems to be heading in the direction of the phone booth." She hands the notebook to him and nods, silently.

She wanted to appologize, but she waited to see his reaction.

Didymus looked around, upon reading Violet's words.

The phone booth...?

He looked over that direction...then looked around.

When asking a few other passerby turned out not to help, he sighed.

"...thanks...thanks anyway..." he said.

Blast. Lost him. Oh well. I'll just call command about keeping an eye out for such a man...

He straightened up.

What about this woman? What if she's a plant...no, that's not possible. There's a huge crowd, no way they could have communicated, she's just making her way through it...blast, all this time in intel is making me too paranoid...

He looked over Violet again.

Violet offered a small smile, not quite understanding the agent's problem. She gestured with a finger to 'wait a minute', took out her own small notepad, and wrote down: "I'm sorry for bumping into you, I was a little wary of the people here."

She sighs gently and adds "You look pallid...did this man do something to you?" She hands him the notebook. She didn't mean to pry in his business, but she didn't want to go without helping this unfortunate soul.

[University Classroom]

“Forget what you've read in dime store pulp comics. Forget about those radio dramas and the broadway plays. Reality is, there's rarely anything that turns out that way. X never marks the spot, and all those stories of magic and supernatural elements prevalent in myths and legend... that's all it is, a myth. Real reality... if you're going to be a archeologist, it's a lot of travel, a lot of hard work, and a lot of long days.”

A man stood at the front of a classroom, giving a lecture to his students. The bell rang.

“Alright. I expect your reports on my desk first thing Monday.”

As the students poured out, a man in a expensive suit and hat walked in.

“Doctor Jones? Can I have a word with you.” The man asked.

The class' teacher – Indiana Jones – turned to him and paused. “... And what does Uncle Sam want from me now?” He seemed to have pegged the man immediately for a government agent.

“Do you know an Herman Kappel?” The agent asked.

“... German historian. Considered a world expert on Religious studies. My father knows him. I never actually met the man.” Indiana replied.

“Ah, I see.” The agent paused. “Kappel contacted the British a few weeks ago. He wanted to defect to Great Britain. Then he disappeared. A British agent went to his residence in Berlin, found it empty... his notes were largely gone, and the walls and floors of the house were covered in very strange burn marks.”

Indiana frowned. “... Look, buddy, why are you telling me all of this?”

The agent paused. “... Your father's name was found among Kappel's notes. Just trying to get some information. Kappel claimed to the Brits that he had some very serious information about the Nazi's.”

Dr. Jones paused, rubbing his neck. “... Come on. I'll drive you up to my old man's house. You can ask him yourself.”

Didymus paused.

"That's...don't worry about it, ma'am, just try to be more careful..." he said.

"..and that man...it's...well, he's very dangerous. If you see him, you should probably tell the police or something...he actually just tried to take me hostage in his cab..."

He decided not to mention how their firearms came into play.

Violet nodded quietly, writing down another sentence. "My name is Violet. I work at the library here. Is there anything more I can do for you? Maybe buy you something to eat?"

She tore out the page and handed it to him. She was concerned. He looked like he had seen a ghost...

Didymus stared at the paper.

...was this girl offering to treat him to a meal?

He was shocked...and pondered, amused by this apparent reversal of fortune from what otherwise was shaping up to be a pretty bad day. He gave her another look.

She seems nice enough...and seems to dress well...and I'm losing focus on the mission...

His stomach grumbled.

...but I suppose it's okay if I take a break...

"Good to meet you, Violet. I'm Didymus. I just need to make ONE phone call, and then we can get some lunch...but please, don't concern yourself for my finances...I sincerely appreciated the offer, but I can pay for my own meal...and yours, if need be."

Violet nodded, understanding fully. A man's country, that's what this was. A guy wouldn't allow a girl to buy him lunch. But..she thought perhaps this guy was just kind enough not to put burden on the young woman..for that, she was thankful. Libraries weren't entirely good with pay.

She wrote down a note. "It's my pleasure to meet you, Didymus. Is that how you spell your name? Please, take your time and make your call. I shall wait for you." She smiled sympathetically and corrected her glasses. Her handwriting was very neat and precise, showing she spent a good deal of time with perfecting her penmenship.
