Didymus stepped forward, looking at the symbols...

"Well, give me a bit...this is gruesome, certainly, but this could have been all manner of various...heh, "interest groups"..." he said.

Paris

-Streets-

Aiden sat next to Didymus in the car ride over, staying quiet and not sure what to say. As the car stopped, she slid out as well, looking around. Snake told her it might be good to wait from the car, but...

But she wanted to be helpful, so she followed after a moment, her red eyes widening as she took in the scene.

“Oh... oh dear...” she said, feeling a woozy now, stumbling back.

-Chloe's Bar-

Edda nodded to Connor, sensing that he seemed not wanting to talk, but didn't push it.

“Well Chloe and I are just making some plans, but if you need to talk to them, I can wait,” Edda said.

Paris alley

OF COURSE Aiden would start to stumble right next to him.

"Crap..." he whispered, positioning himself to catch her if she fell.

"...well, this IS rather unsettling...not many handle it well their first time..myself included..." he said.

Aiden shook, grabbing unto Didymus's arm now by her, though it wasn't intentional.

...Though she also wouldn't be complaining about it.

“Who... who could have done something like this?” Aiden asked, voice barely above a whisper.

“Who... who could have done something like this?”

“That’s what we need to find out.” Snake replied, as he surveyed the carnage. He shook his head, walking carefully around the scene to try to avoid stepping on anything.

Snake’s eyes were drawn to something – a very small knife, in the corner of the alley. It was simple and plain – but there was an etching into the handle. Snake rushed over and picked it up, and then he swore.

“Didymus, I’ve seen something like this before.” Snake said as he turned and showed him the knife. “During the Great War, there was a German unit known for being especially cruel… but they were all killed, I though.”

Didymus caught Aiden, kind of nervously/awkwardly holding her steady.

"All manner of cults could have done this. But...a German unit in the war? Hm. So you're telling me their propensity to have societies based around this crap is older than we thought?"

He chuckled.

"Rats, I thought we'd be able to chock it up to Hitler's attempt to remake German society."

“Not a secret society,” Snake shook his head. “It was one man’s personal unit. A German General named Wolfgang von Strucker.”

Snake spat the name like it was a foul taste in his mouth. He ran his hand through his beard, before turning back to Didymus.

“I’m assuming you recognize the name, but if not… Strucker is the founder of Hydra. He was also one of Hitler’s biggest supporters, both financially and politically. There’s some rumors that he was connected to the Thule Society as well.”

"I recognize the name a bit, but I wasn't under the impression that Strucker was interested in the occult. From what I hear of Hydra and Thule, the former regard the latter as superstitious nutcases and the latter regard the former as small-minded opportunists." Didymus said.

He grinned.

"It seems the Nazis even hate EACH OTHER. Still, it's a lead. Maybe someone is trying to frame Strucker? Heh, why don't we call a high-ranking Nazi official and ask him if he was involved with an occultist murder in Paris? We're not at war YET..." he chuckled.

He got serious.

"Still, this place should probably be sterilized just in case..." he said, taking out some water...

“Hydra isn’t interested in the occult – but Strucker is.” Snake explained, as he stared down at the strange writing on the wall.

“Of course, it’s hard to get accurate intelligence, but we do know Strucker is extremely old. Guy’s gotta be nearly a hundred, though we’re not actually sure what year he was born in.”

He sighed. “OSS thinks that Johanne Schmidt is basically running Hydra. At least that’s our best guess; but a guy like Strucker would have loyal followers. The question is… why do this? It doesn’t make much sense.”

Aiden clung to Didymus, probably a little longer then she actually needed to, stopping once Didymus pulled out some water.

“Maybe... maybe it's not Strucker? Maybe it's a protege of his? Someone following in his footsteps?” Aiden asked after a moment, “Someone claiming to be him?”

"Someone trying to imitate him...or someone trying to frame him, perhaps." Didymus said.

"Though if Strucker is so fond of the occult, why did he found an organization that tends to shun/scorn it?" he asked. "It grew beyond his control?"

He was quiet for a moment, slowly uncorking one of the orbs he carried...

“That’s a common misconception. Hydra doesn’t shun the occult at all – they simply try to blend it with science; the ultimate blend of the technological and the supernatural.”

At the far end of the alleyway, a woman in a white trench coat had appeared. She was middle aged, with blonde hair tied in a tight bun and eyes that held a powerful intensity. Just one stare from her was enough to reduce some people to fear.

Snake gasped, his eyes widened. “… Boss!”

The Boss did not move. She didn’t approach them or try to flee. She simply stood stationary, watching with an unreadable expression on her face.

Aiden wasn't sure if she should be sad or not that Didymus didn't seem to react to her moving away from his arm, but now wasn't the time or the place to be thinking of that.

She moved to asked Didymus if he wanted some help spreading the water.

But someone appeared, someone who Snake apparently knew.

“...Who is she?” Aiden asked now, glancing towards Didymus, if he would know.

Didymus looked over to the woman Snake stood transfixed by.

"I dunno. I know what they SAY." he said to her quietly.

He then was quiet for a bit more, and began to spread the water.

Their audience was simply standing there. He was watching her out of the corner of his eye, but there was cleansing to be done. If she was just standing there, he'd let Snake stare back while this site was dealt with.

Snake stood with his eyes as wide as saucers. He had not seen the woman that was his mentor in so long. Their final conversation was now replaying itself in his mind, and he took one staggering step forward.

“Boss…”

Yet The Boss was cold and stone-faced. She did not show any emotion, merely watching from behind cold, blue eyes.

“Hydra’s ambitions are far darker than anyone can realize. They have only just begun down the road, but their destination will bring a reign of terror and blood that the world cannot ever hope to recover from. If you seek to stop them, then you need to do so quickly.”

Snake swallowed hard. Is this why she had reappeared after so long? “What is Hydra doing, Boss?”

“They are looking for someone; a Russian scientist who fled the Soviet Union and has been hiding out in France for the last two years. His name is Nikolai Stepanovich Sokolov. Bald, black mustache and wears a monocle.”

Snake paused. He had heard the name before. After a moment of searching his memories, he gasped. “There were rumors the Russians had him studying the Sakura Armor!”

The Boss gave a curt nod. “Yes, Jack. That’s what this is all about. Sokolov made breakthroughs with the Sakura Armor. He learned things the Japanese never intended anyone else to know… and Hydra wants that knowledge.”
