"No idea, but gangs often refuse to yield this city to orderly control. Maybe something like that. Or even if it was something more sinister...spy games are just redundant at this point. War's coming-HAS come-either way...that's why this mission is so important..." Didymus said.

He looked around.

"So, Violet, anything about this place we should know, or should we just shut up and find some bookshelf to hide in until the situation is resolved over there?"

Violet thought a bit. She eventually pushed up her glasses, opened her pad, and began writing. In a few swift strokes she gave it to Didymus.

"The library is home to hundreds of tomes and historical books...I don't think this Sakura Project will be mentioned if it's as secretive as you say, but it might be worth a look. I also have a lot of the city's records hidden in the Record Room. I'm sure you can see if there were any related events in the past involving this matter. And I do have a safe room in the event something happens. If you feel like you need a hiding place, I can hide both of you there."

Didymus paused.

"...could we have a look at the safe room?"

She nodded and walked over to a smaller rack with magazines. She moved it and under this was a panel in the floor with a rope attached to it. She pulled the panel open with a tug of the rope to reveal a ladder. She motioned for them to follow her down.

The safe room was underground, a light dangled in the center of the room. There was a small twin bed with a brass frame, a television with a crank dial, a crate full of preservatives, three wooden chairs around a small round table, a deck of cards, and a few books Violet personally chose to read if she ever had to spend extensive time in here.

Technically speaking, all she did was convert her basement into a room that would provide a living area for a short amount of time.

I can't see what you're imagining
-Samuel's Suite-

“Hm? Something wrong?” Samuel wondered, pouring a couple glasses of the wine, walking over to Kanna, handing her a drink.

“I am asking you to trust me here...” Samuel said, sipping his drink, “So, it's only fair if you have any questions or concerns about me.”

-NYC Streets-

The cop car started down the street, Sage breathing in now, happy they were on their way to the hospital.

“I won't leave your side at the hospital,” Sage said, “And I should probably call your parents when we get there...”

“What's coming?” Galv wondered, finding himself curious now, though he knew he should just leave, “What are you talking about?”

-Musashi's Safe House-

“What kind of team?” Aaron wondered, turning to Musashi, “Maybe we can help...”

-Manhattan Cocktail Lounge-

Out in the hallway, another man was dead...He had been strangled, with no fingerprints, and freezer burns over his body...

Shadows slinked away...

“Not bad.” Snake complimented Violet on the converted basement. He looked around, and nodded, then turning to Didymus.

“This place is low-profile, but in a high-traffic area. It's perfect. This could easily work as a base of operations.”

He looked around the room once more, and then walked over to Didymus.

“In the meantime... what now? What's our next move?”

[NYC Streets]

Volgin looked to Galv and a rather insane grin crossed his scarred face.

“What is coming? First... war will come. War will cover the world... and then, death. Death on a scale like you cannot imagine. The world will be burned down to ash, and rebuilt... only those... like us... shall survive.”

Volgin chuckled.

[Musashi's Safe House]

Musashi rubbed the back of his neck.

“During the war, I was a real rookie... I was assigned to the Sakura Teams. I led a team of several very attractive ladies, all of whom were talented steam mech pilots. We fought for the world... but...”

Musashi sighed. “Time passed... things change... and now with war on the horizon... I'm worried they'll turn on the Sakura Teams because they worked under Japanese officers.”

"Indeed..." Didymus said, looking around the safe room.

"...Violet, pardon my inquiry, but...do you live here? I know it's something of a personal question, but...you did mention something about...well...being on hard times..."

“In the meantime... what now? What's our next move?”

Didymus checked his watch.

"I believe I have a meeting with the owner of the Littlelip Theater to get to soon...I don't expect it will go well...also, Violet, is there a telephone around here I could use...?"

Violet blushed and wrote down a few words. "I have an apartment in a complex called 'The Glass Tower' downtown, but many a time, I cannot afford taxi fare...I live in the apartment on bits of the money I inherited from my family."

She nods after giving him the note. She takes his hand and leads him up to the phone. She had it in there in case someone needed it. She couldn't use it, of course. She bows and leaves him to his duty. She returns downstairs to sweep the floor of the basement. It was so dusty.

She eventually looked up to Snake and wrote down a note. "Are you thirsty? Do you need something to drink?"

[Library]

Snake was sitting in the corner of the basement. He didn't seem bothered by the dust, or anything else really. Then again, it had only be a few years ago that he was crawling through the trenches in Europe, fighting alongside his mentor and having an eye shot out.

He paused as she handed him a note, and he shook his head. “I'm fine, thanks.”

He hesitated. Snake was NOT a talkative person. He was pretty private, and usually didn't have conversations. Still, he felt like he should say something.

“... Are you okay with this job? I mean, from the sounds of things, we could end up having to go a long way from New York.”

Violet thought a bit about it. She knew the job would be dangerous. And she knew it would take them a long way. But she felt like it was her destiny..she finally looked up at Snake after a bit of contemplation and nodded. She pulled her notebook out and began to write things down.

"I understand the perils of this mission and I want to help out...I feel I can help. I want to go along not just for myself but to help you and Didymus in your mission. Simply put, I feel like I can live up to the job you've assigned me."

Didymus finally came back.

"Violet..." he said.

"...I spoke with my superiors. You...are on probation. You are to accompany us and keep track of administrative records, and generally support the team. If you do well, I will recommend you to my superiors, who will then call you in for further testing and training. On one condition. You submit your personal information for the review of War Department in DC, and...you take an pledge, an oath, even, of secrecy. You will be legally bound by this, and will essentially be working as a civilian attachment to a military operation."

He paused.

"So this is your last chance to back out. Otherwise..."

He took out his briefcase, and opened it, producing an official War Department document.

It read that the signer agreed to undertake the mission, to keep secret and never speak outside of the personnel and without permission of what they were doing, what they knew, what they would learn, and that they understood the risks, entered into this task willingly, and other such things.

It was essentially a sort of enlistment oath without the enlistment, and there was a space for the signature.

Violet's bottom lipped quivered. She weighed to possibilities...signing this meant she was practically now under the ownership of the military. Of course, she couldn't actually tell anyone a secret. She could be tortured and tortured but she wouldn't murmur a peep...simply because she couldn't. They couldn't force her to write. She almost found humor in the thought that if she lost her hands, there was no way for her to speak at all. It was dark, morbid humor. But considering the circumstances...

She thought about the dangers of it...but...what did she have to lose? She would have to toughen herself and prove she could handle it....she sighed. She took out her pen and in her best handwriting, she signed her name.

Violet Basil.

--------------------

Meanwhile, the entrance opened up. A tall figure entered, the boards echoing his footsteps. He wore a brown hat and a trench coat; under that, a white shirt and a brown vest with a red tie. His eyes were worn and he looked to be in his late thirties. He had his hands in his pockets and walked down an aisle. He didn't notice the absence of Miss Basil, though he suspected she was somewhere in the library. Thomas Spade, AKA simply as Spade, was a famous PI during his prime. Though the years weren't good on him, he still held a good position in the eyes of the City.

Spade had been known to appear gruff at times, but he was very generous, often accepting any case that came to him. From a woman who had her necklace stolen to a child who lost their favorite stuffed toy, he never denied a client as long as they could pay. (With the exception of those children)

Spade had recently lost a lot of business to the younger Private Investigators of the city, but he had a feeling...a lot of recent crimes just seemed to fit together. Spade had a feeling they were connected. He just needed to prove how...he would visit the City's public records and dig around for some info...he knew he couldn't get in to either recent targets...the Private Investigator entered the records.

-NYC Streets-

"Y-Yeah, I guess someone will have to do that" Joyce said, quickly shuffling through her things with her uninjured arm and pulling out her notebook. She then handed it to Sage. "Write down that we didn't find my grandad...But the name of the club, we'll have to come back sometime soon"

Because even getting shot did not deter a good journalist.

Though unconsciousness might...Her head was feeling pretty fuzzy.

-Samuel's Suite-

Kanna straightened up as Samuel turned, two glasses in her hand. Kanna carefully took one, taking a sip.

"This is good...What year did you say this was again?" she asked, look into the liquid. Surely she had just heard wrong about his age. Of course he was just talking about the wines's age. "You have wonderful taste in wine, how old were you again?"

-Musashi's Safe House-

"A thief eh?" Adrinna said, now actually pretty impressed at the girl. "And where did you steal it from?"

Not that she would go over there and steal one.

Meanwhile Laila smiled up at Musashi "I'm sure there around here somewhere...But you are aware that New York City is pretty big right? It'd be hard to find them, especially right now."

She didn't want to say it but after these attacks there was a pretty good chance that people (especially the police) would be unwilling to help any foreigners.

Manhattan Cocktail Lounge

(He totally can read them)

Crystal turned to Sama, handing them to him. While she worked in DC before this her job didn't have much to do with military operations.

In reality the papers were something about the suspicion of spies from Germany and Japan. Because of this suspicion certain groups were subject to investigation and deportation. It seemed as if America was trying to contain the problem.

[Library]

Snake suddenly tensed up. He had been sitting silently as Violet signed the oath, but he slowly rose to his feet and looked up towards the ceiling.

“... Violet. Someone's here.” Snake said. He had heard the squeak of the floorboards and the sound of a door opening. The older spy always listened for small, subtle clues of these sorts of things.

It was probably the cops, Snake though, coming to look for them... then again, cops usually identified themselves loudly when they entered a building while looking for someone.

[Musashi's Safe House]

Musashi nodded to Laila, and let out a small sigh.

“Yeah, I know the city's huge... and it won't be easy to find them... but I HAVE to find the Sakura Team. I'm terrified... they...”

Musashi shook his head. “Listen, I know how much your government dislikes my country right now. I'm sure they'll already be sending someone to find the Sakura Teams to get information about my country... and likewise, I know my country will be sending someone to find them.”

He rubbed the back of his neck. “I... I came of my own accord. I'm not here representing my government, or my father... I'm here to find my friends and protect them, from your country and from mine.”

[Manhattan Cocktail Lounge]

Sama looked over the notes, reading through them. Just like lawyers could write things in what was technical English but was basically only readable by other lawyers, the military could do the same thing. Military lingo was usually too confusing to make sense.

Sama wasn't in the military... but he had once investigated a case when a general's daughter had been kidnapped, and he had used the case to read a whole bunch of military information.

“... Huh... it's talking about spies... investigations, deportations, detainment... it sounds like some pretty important stuff.”

Musashi's Safe House

Laila frowned, wanting to say something to give support to the boy but rather unsure. Really what were the chances of Musashi finding his friends in THIS city...And in the midst of all of this chaos?

"Tell you what" The girl said quietly, a bit of a grin on her face "If you want, I can take you somewhere that you'll be sure to learn about the whereabouts of your friends. But you gotta keep quiet about it, maybe we can go tonight after everyone is sleeping?"

Midnight date spy mission. Yup, nothing else.

Manhattan Cocktail Lounge

"Detainments?" Crystal asked, looking at the strange papers beside Sama "The government surely wouldn't detain anyone innocent right?"

Because the government is ALWAYS squeaky clean. Like an oil slick.
