"...only the time being? Geez..." Marco sighed, though somewhat glad to get that 'time being', at the least.

At the start, it really was quite concerning, to Marco, just how anti-social, Nanami seemed to be. But after the bit of time they've both been part of this group to protect Musashi (and now to also get info on these Sakura Team people), he was starting to feel that she wasn't as deeply against all of this 'social behavior' as she wanted to lead on to people. However, he couldn't quite understand why, as of yet. He rejected her notions that it was 'distracting' to her, to be talking and the like. She was too good at what she did, to be as distracted by random conversations as she claims them to be. There had to be something...

Maybe it was something in her past that she really didn't want to get into, that made her averse to wanting to converse a lot. Or maybe it was something from her upbringing, that caused her to become even MORE concerned than she probably should be, about even the possibility of distraction, and it's role on her missions... Or maybe it could be something else.

Nanami was someone who was really tough to figure out, but he was determined to try. He didn't like seeing one of his friends caging themselves off from the world. And he considered Nanami a friend. A really pretty friend...

...a really pretty friend, who'd probably stab him in the neck if she knew what he was thinking about at this moment. Especially that last bit.

He shook his head for a second, blinking a little bit, to regain his own focus back more to the task at hand, after Nanami spoke.

"...That's good. It'll allow us to keep a tighter watch over Musashi, then," he then said, nodding to Nanami, before following her on their way to inside the cathedral.

Chloe's Bar

Chloe listened to Aaron's instructions and watched him jump on the roof with ease. She had never tried to get up there before but supposed it couldn't be too difficult. The girl focused as she was told to and backed up to get a running start.

Chloe managed to get on the roof like Aaron, but ended up overshooting it a bit; stumbling into Aaron before she could gain her footing. She grabbed his arm and steadied herself.

"Sorry, too far" she joked

[...]

"That sounds great" Sarai said with a calm smile, though internally she was freaking out. She had never been on a date before, which was a bit strange for her girl her age. Between getting past her terrible shyness and her four protective brothers guys didn't usually want to try.

Sarai then blinked, suddenly remembering something.

"Not to change the subject, but d-didn't you have something you needed to do?"

New York City

Hotel

"The politics of preventing terrorism are very complicated...Though we are pursuing other methods of protecting the country...Outside what we've discussed" Axel said, lowering his voice. We also have people on the inside, working with the terrorists... We're hoping we can get them up the ranks high enough to make an assassination attempt.

Sounded like a suicide mission.

Hawkin's House

"Paris?" Melanie asked, frowning a bit "What are they doing all the way in Europe?"

Melanie desperately hoped Aaron, Adrianna, and Laila were not involved in the same troubling activities as their mother...She didn't even know the three had passports...

[...]

Samara eyed the cocoa when Blake offered it to her. She never needed to eat since she got all of her energy from Blake but she couldn't help to be curious of the strange brown liquid...It didn't look that good but Blake seemed to enjoy it...So the girl brought it to her lips.

Instantly Samara jumped when the liquid hit her mouth, it was really....Something...She wasn't sure how to explain it, it was making her lips tingle and she wasn't sure she liked the feeling. Eventually the tingling made her yelp.

It was hot, but she didn't know what hot was...

Gallic Enterprises

"Offer you...." Joyce repeated with a frown...."I don't really have any money..."

Not that Lily would need even MORE money.

Ryan had a few ideas of what he wanted, but they all involved Melanie in lacy nighties...He probably didn't want to mention that in front of Lily though...

Didymus noticed that Aiden seemed suddenly...worried...in how she spoke. Even sad.

"Um...Aiden? Is...everything...um, alright...?" he asked, suspecting what may be going on...

"Yes..." he added. "...later when we are off duty, perhaps, Miss Fontaine? I'd be honored to treat you to another bit of cake if you like..."

Erica paused, as if she were reflecting. It actually looked strange, as she stood there with a zoned-out expression on her face for a bit, but one that appeared weighted down...

"...um...alright." She smiled at them. "...if you insist..." There still seemed to be a hint of sadness in her voice, yet also pleasure...as if she was again being reminded of a bittersweet memory.

Didymus nodded.

"Very good. Though surely we may bump into each other while keeping watch here." he said.

"I hope not." Erica said. "That usually hurts. I like seeing angels when I bump into things, but it needs to be less painful. Maybe I'd LIKE bumping into things if it didn't hurt..."

"...um...that's kind of...a strange thought..." Didymus said.

"...well, I'm always bumping into things, so I'd really like it if it didn't hurt. Then I could see angels anytime I wanted!" she said.

Didymus wasn't quite sure what to make of Erica's latest line of thought.

"Well, I'll see you soon!" Erica smiled at him again, this time seemingly more perky.

Didymus blinked.

"Well...um, maybe I'll go check on Alice bumping into Miss Fontaine did, however nice it seems to have turned out, prevent me from doing that...though...another of my team is...over there..."

He reflected on Musashi being here. Maybe now that he was here, he could see just what WAS going on with Aiden...or maybe if she, too, would prefer the oriental type...

...he also thought perhaps Alice needed checking up on. Especially because he suddenly remembered a story he was once told by some veterans of the Great War...

...he had a bit of realization...

"I need to speak with Alice as soon as I can..." he shot a look over to Musashi, as if to say "If you've something to say, now's the time."

-Hawkins' House-

“I'm not entirely sure. Aaron left a note with my dad,” Maize said, “Something about watching his sisters and helping people...”

She sighed a little, shaking her head, “He did say it was something with the government, but still... he didn't give us a lot of details. He ran off last night after them... I think with some other people, but he didn't tell me who...”

Like Melanie's mother, Rica, and Galv's father...

“Are you okay?” Blake asked, worried now, looking at the girl, “Sometimes you need to blow on it, like this.”

He blew softly on the cocoa, then took a sip himself.

A pause, as he seemed to consider something.

“...Maybe we could trade places?” Blake asked, “You're still part of me, right? You could try being me, and see what it's like...”

-Gallic Enterprises-

“Money? I don't want money from you,” Lily said, laughing a little, “I have plenty of money.”

She paused for a moment, considering what Joyce might be able to give her in return for information... or if giving the information for free would be worth what might come of it.

“The usual price for information is information,” Lily finally said, “I want to hear what your family has been up to... anything interesting that might be going on in your house. After all, you are family, I should keep in touch.”

Mostly Lily wanted to know anything that could give her leverage over Galv.

Paris

-Chloe's Bar-

Aaron blushed as Chloe grabbed him to steady herself, but smiled at her.

“Hey, you did pretty good,” Aaron said, “My dad's been making me learn how to do this stuff pretty much as soon as I started walking.”

He smirked a little, then walked along the roof top, looking at all the old buildings around them.

“Alright, the point of rooftop running is to stay to the roofs, don't be seen, and to practice your movements,” Aaron said. He took a running leap, landing smoothly on the next roof, turning towards Chloe.

“Your turn!” he called out.

-Notre Dame-

Aiden seemed to calm down a little once Erica left, but still looked nervous, glancing towards Didymus but was making a conscious effort to try and not draw much attention to herself.

Which probably just drew more attention to her.

“I'm fine...” Aiden finally said, quietly as she looked back over to Didymus, “Erica seems nice...”

There was definitely something bothering the girl though.

Hawkins' House

Melanie sighed, plopping down into her chair. "Apparently everyone in this family is just looking for trouble" she joked, running a hand through her long hair. "Hopefully they're safe over there"

Melanie was worried, but she knew her siblings were pretty much adults and thus could take care of themselves...Still, it never stopped her from worrying before.

[...]

Samara watched carefully as Blake blew off the cocoa, the little girl mimicking his actions. She ended up blowing a bit too hard, the liquid spilling over the edge of the cup.

“...Maybe we could trade places? You're still part of me, right? You could try being me, and see what it's like...”

Samara paused, looking at Blake...It was possible. "You would have to go where I go" Samara said quietly "You wouldn't like it there. It's really dark"

Gallic Enterprises

“The usual price for information is information, I want to hear what your family has been up to... anything interesting that might be going on in your house. After all, you are family, I should keep in touch.”

Joyce paused, biting her lip. She wasn't sure how much she should tell her aunt... "Not much, I mean most of our focus has been around mom lately, since she's expecting....And grandma came and visited."

Yeah, grandma the NAZI.

Paris

Chloe's Bar

Chloe didn't seem too nervous to jump the roof, though she had never done it before... She gave a little breath and followed Aaron, managing to make it across the roof!

"Pretty cool" she said breathlessly, looking to Aaron with a grin.

“Hopefully...” Maize said, “They know how to fight at least, even if Aaron is all 'only use fighting as a last resort.'”

Maize was quite willing to punch people and use a bit of her strength to help get her point across. Plus it helped when a short girl liked her proved to be stronger then the burly men who would give her trouble.

Blake paused, considering it for a moment, then nodded.

“I don't mind. You can see what it's like, and maybe it'll help us figure out a way so you can have your own body,” Blake said, “Besides, I can be out and around like you are right now! You can be me and I can be you for a bit.”

This probably won't end well.

-Gallic Enterprises-

Lily kept passive as Joyce talked. Melanie was pregnant? Interesting. Her brother had always been so protective of Melanie and their spawn. Of course, Lily was now hoping for a child of her own, in order to pass the company to them. Once she had that, she planned on disposing of Ryan, unless he proved useful some other way.

Not that she'd let him know that, of course.

Though if worse came to worse... Galv had always been stronger then her, with a lot more raw power. Well, she could always 'adopt'...

She put a mental pin in it for later.

And then the mention of Kanna. That was also very interesting.

“I see. Well then, you've managed to answer your own question. Your grandmother was often involved in some... extralegal activities,” Lily said idly, “I think she even use to work for my father... excuse me, my adopted father, Don Gallic, but it was before I became more involved in the company myself.”

She smiled faintly, “I have reason to believe she has been cavorting with the German's, more specifically the Nazi party. She's pissed them off, and intend to get to her through your family, I believe.”

Sage was wide eyed. This could be really bad...

“Can't we do anything to help?” Sage asked, looking towards his dad now.

Paris

-Paris Rooftops-

Aaron grinned, “It's even more fun with skyscrapers. Leaping over tall buildings in a single bound.”

He was joking, he wasn't nearly strong enough to do that, but like his nephew Blake, Aaron too read Superman comics.

Aaron paused for a moment, then suddenly scooped up Chloe, carrying her in his arms, before racing across the rooftop, jumping and landing on another one.

“This'll be a little faster for now. Just point me in the right direction, alright?” Aaron said to her.

[Outside Notre Dame]

“I prefer to take things one at a time.” Nanami said, looking over to Marco as she turned and started back towards the main building. “It’s how I was trained, and it’s how I live. Though if you can prove you can be useful and run your mouth simultaneously, then I won’t have a problem with it at all.”

Nanami was not a people person. Often the things she said could come across badly. She was often cold, and could be quite rude sometimes. It was rarely anything person. She just had her mission, and that was the priority.

[Inside Notre Dame]

Musashi noticed the glance from Didymus’ direction, and he turned to Laila quickly.

“I’m going to go report in. I’ll be right back.” Musashi said, and he quickly gave her a peck on the cheek. Then he turned and walked over to Didymus and Aiden.

“I spoke to the team’s old manager. She provided us with several files, and briefed me on the Sakura Team. And she gave me some advice on how to get through to them. I can’t make any promises, but I might be able to make some progress.”

He glanced over in the direction Erica had walked off in.

“Although it looked like you two were getting along pretty well. Should I just let you handle talking to her?”

[Chloe’s Bar]

Connor blinked as Sarai suddenly reminded him of his rather important errand. He visibly paled a little bit.

“Oh… yeah, I need to go check on something. Um… I-I’ll be back tonight, okay?” Connor wanted to stay, but he knew his grandfather would be very upset if he didn’t show up. Especially if something happened…

[New York City]

[Hotel]

Sama frowned. Now that sounded like a dangerous mission.

“If you could get proof that these terrorists are working with the Germans that could solve a lot of problems. We could definitely undermine the Nazis with proof like that.”

He leaned back in his chair.

“… So, tell me, Mr. Hughes… what can I do? I may not agree with all of your methods, but I want to help all the same.”

Rooftops

Chloe yelped, clinging tightly to Aaron's shirt when he picked her up and started jumping roofs. She couldn't help but to be on edge, as some guy she had just met was now pretty much holding her life in her hands. Hopefully he was as good on his feet as he said.

"Now don't drop me you hear!" she said with a laugh.

[...]

Sarai blinked as Connor suddenly panicked (remembering that he was supposed to be doing something right now. She wasn't sure what the boy was up to, but she thought it best not to be nosy.

"I'd love to help if you if you need anything" she said sweetly, disappearing from the room for a moment and coming back with a small brown bag. "It's not much, but some lunch for later...You may get hungry doing whatever you need to do"

New York City

Hotel

"What can you do?" Axel said, leaning back in his seat "Usually I would have to tell you stay out of the affairs of the CIA, but I like you! It's not too often I meet someone with ideas like you. I'm usually surrounded by military types you know? People who'd rather invade first and investigate later."

Axel then lowered his voice, moving in a bit. "Alright, i'm going to take you up on your suggestion...Let's follow the money...Have you ever gone undercover?"

[...]

A few feet away, behind a wall stood Crystal and Jeremie (and most likely Kimi as well) who were obviously spying on Sama and Agent Hughes' conversation.

"Auuuuugh he's saying something stupid I just know it!" Jeremie groaned/whispered.

"Shush! i'm sure it's going well!" Crystal muttered back.

Hawkins' House

"We definitely need more people in this family with Aaron's mindset" Melanie joked, sitting down and rubbing her head. She was amazed such a calm boy came from Kanna. If genetics had their way he would be a serial killer.

[...]

"What will you look like when I take your body?" Samara asked, suddenly liking the idea of being human....She wondered what it would be like

Gallic Enterprises

"So they are coming after us...." Joyce mumbled, now suddenly very worried. She knew her parents were strong....But could they take on Nazis? "Does my dad know that they're coming after us?"

Maybe that's why they were kept home today.

"I'd love to help if you if you need anything"

Connor paused. He wanted to spend more time with her, although he didn’t want to get her involved in anything dangerous. Then she brought him some lunch, and Connor smiled to her and accepted it.

“Ah, thank you!” He paused for a moment. “Well, all I really need to do is just sort of be somewhere and keep watch… you could come with me, if you wanted… although…”

He frowned. “But… if anything happened, I’d want you to stay back, okay?”

[New York City]

[Hotel]

Sama blinked. Hughes was actually going to take his advice? That was great!

Then Hughes mentioned ‘undercover’. Sama rubbed the back of his neck.

“Yeah… I’ve got some undercover experience. A couple of years ago I worked on a case with Scotland Yard that required going undercover. I think I can handle it.” Sama said confidently.

… He just hoped he didn’t end up in a hospital afterwards this time.

[…]

"Auuuuugh he's saying something stupid I just know it!" Jeremie groaned/whispered.

"Shush! i'm sure it's going well!" Crystal muttered back.

“Guarantee you’re both right.” Kimi replied, leaning casually against the wall. “He’ll say something really stupid, but somehow it’ll end up well.”

Nanami's approach certainly made sense, and was fairly practical. If you're in the business of trying to keep someone safe and protected and all that, focusing on the 'now' was a very important part of the job.

"Soooooo..." Marco brightened up, and sped up to walk up in front of her, instead of behind, turning back to face her as they continued ahead.

"Does that mean I have your permission to talk with you, for this time being, at least, to prove myself?"

He didn't expect much of a positive response to that idea, however, and already seemed to be retreating, slowing down, in anticipation of a negative response.

“Although it looked like you two were getting along pretty well. Should I just let you handle talking to her?”

Didymus paused.

"...I don't know." he said. "If the files I read were any indication, she may well have a good chance of opening up to you, for better or worse, but..." he reflected. He wasn't sure where Musashi stood on such matters, but he knew he had made a connection with Erica over faith...plus, he already had a head start. Besides, maybe talking to an actual Japanese prince would be hitting TOO close to home for her memories? He was surprised, a tad at least, that she even drew comparisons between himself and her, he suspected, former captain. It had to be the pastries.

"...tell you what: go follow another lead, and report back here. I'll see what I can do on this end, and let you know how it goes." he said.

"...now if you'll excuse me, there's a matter I want to bring up with another guest here..."

He approached Alice, and though he had a suspicion she wouldn't like it, he asked Aiden.

"Aiden, could you give me a moment? I wish to discuss something with Alice that may be a bit...secret? Sorry, but perhaps only need-to-know..."

He made his way to Alice.

"Madam? Lady Alice, right?" he noticed he hadn't used her name much.

"...might I have a word with you...?"

He took a quick glance at Randal, remembering a story an older Marine Corps veteran had once told him...

Musashi nodded simply. “Okay. Sounds like a plan. See what you can do, and if you need me to do anything, just say so. I’m going to pursue another lead for now, I’ll let you know how it goes.”

With that, Musashi headed back over to Laila and simply shrugged his shoulders.

“Well, that went well.”

[…]

Alice and Randal were in the corner of the room, talking quietly among themselves when Didymus approached. Randal looked down to him, and then glanced at Alice, who simply nodded.

Randal took the message and walked off a few feet away.

“What is it?” Alice asked simply.

[Outside]

“… Okay.” Nanami replied after a brief pause. She had given some calculation to the current situation. There was a lot of security around the Notre Dame, and it would be extremely difficult for someone to attack without them being found out very quickly.

So she decided to risk a conversation.

"Thank you..." Didymus said.

"...now, I have to admit, I was hesitant to leave your larger fellow behind last night out of Marine Corps values and honor...but he emerged unphazed, even if looking worse for wear. Your man, that heavy coat, all those scars...a veteran of many scuffles, I imagine, but...well, if I may, let me tell you a story."

He paused, believing that she would see where he was going with this early and wasn't going to like it.

"...an old Marine Corps veteran who served in the Great War-Belleau Wood and other engagements-once told me...a ghost story." he said. "Now, you may not think that such stories are all too farfetched if you've been asking around or paying attention, or that there MAY be SOMETHING to them at least, but this is another type of story. The veteran told me that he and his unit, in the closing days of the war, VERY shortly before the Armistrice was signed, were on a section of the front, of the American part of it at least, closest to the German border. Germany was breaking. Its offensives had halted, the US' fresh troops had arrived in force, and in general the situation was looking pretty grim for them. One night, the veteran said, they saw ghostly lights, of a pale blue, slowly making their way in the darkness. Towards them. They opened up, and some of the lanterns fell. But the will-of-the-wisps, as this man described them, kept coming. Sure enough, they broke into sight: painfully large men, working in small groups at various points...all with lanterns glowing that ghostly hue strapped to their sides...but this veteran said they...looked, and fought, like men possessed. As if they were devoid of any emotion, or thought but just to advance and kill. They did not acknowledge pain, nor fear. You could blow their arms off-and one DID lose an arm, he told me, and he kept coming, walking like a man possessed. Blow their legs off? They crawled forward with their arms, and didn't even flinch at the pain or shock...then they closed to point-blank range, and engaged in SAVAGE close-quarter combat. I was told that one of them even WALKED right up to a tank the unit had that had mowed down a group of his buddies and fired a MASSIVE handgun at a viewport. He showed me the spent bullet casing, even! Only when they were finally killed did they stop coming-and their size, strength, and the fact it was in close quarters made that somewhat difficult, though their lanterns DID make them easy to spot in the dark..."

He paused.

"Of course, I had little more but the casing and his word to that story. I wrote it off as a somewhat strange and even creepy footnote to a much larger war that had already mostly been decided at that point. Now, however, I meet a lovely German aristocrat and expatriate whose family had a German military tradition, with intel on some of Hitler's operations and a large companion with a strange lantern, lots of scars, who wasn't even PHASED after apparently tearing through a German hit squad."

He paused.

"I'm sorry to press, but would you happen to know if there's a connection, Lady Alice?"

… One night, the veteran said, they saw ghostly lights, of a pale blue, slowly making their way in the darkness…

Alice’s eyes perked up a bit when Didymus got to that part of the story, but she remained quiet as he spoke. She simply stood, unflinching, never once looking away as he spoke of the story.

It could, and very well should, have been a very awkward story to discuss. Didymus was (or at least had been, I don’t remember) a Marine. Alice was of German aristocracy, and her father had commanded forces during the Great War. However, she did not turn her eyes away.

"I'm sorry to press, but would you happen to know if there's a connection, Lady Alice?"

Alice gave a small sigh. “… I’d rather not lie to you here of all places.”

She turned and looked up at one of the stained glass windows to the side, and she began to speak quietly. She did not want anyone to overhear this conversation.

“… The Invisible 9, a group of covert platoons that was created by a top secret institute. They were designed to be the ultimate weapons of war. Units that all had a specialty… units that were comprised entirely of soldiers trained in… unorthodox methods.” Alice said quietly.

She turned to Didymus. “… I don’t know all of the details. It’s ALL classified at the highest levels. A lot of the data was destroyed during and after the war. Most of the files were burned. I have no idea if the Invisible 9 still exist. The institute that was in charge of them is gone, but there are… other groups… that could continue that legacy.”

The Thule Society came to mind.

She did not directly mention Randal, though she would if Didymus pressed the point.

"I don't profess to know all the details, or how many and what type of weapons were developed, or even their origins or nature. Neither, I suspect, Lady Alice, do you...but there is one part of your story, and the reason that I bring it up, that you're withholding from me. I'll ask again, and as you've mentioned the location, perhaps I should ask you in His honor not to try to deceive me...be secretive if you must, but if we're going to be working together, especially on tasks like this, I need to know: would you happen to know if there's a connection? And, as well, have we, with that lantern, brought something that has no busniess here into this place? Or is it just..."

He paused.

"...I woudn't be surprised if there's a drug that can do that to a person, though it would be a VERY potent one...and I sure know there are other ways someone can be induced into a suicidal killing frenzy...and it was suicidal. The attack I told of was repelled with heavy casualties. But not before inflicting a few of its own, and sowing a lot of confusion."

He paused again.

"What exactly is your story in regards to this, Lady Alice? Or at least his, and the rest of your little group's, for that matter? I'm sure you can understand why I'd want more information after considering all of this..."
