[Alice’s Safehouse]

Alice shrugged her shoulders. “I have no idea. As I said, he had a library of over five thousand books… there’s no way to tell what he might have used. And I have no way to prove it’s even a code… it’s just gibberish.”

Alice opened the book to a random page.

Went to the store and bought some dogs. Dogs going to eat all the pie crust. Yum, yum, the banana pudding has gone sour. Helga has the best ass in Berlin. I once ate a wheel of cheese at the temple. The cow has two heads.

Alice shook her head, closing the book. “The entire journal is either that, or just blank pages.”

[Warehouse]

Snake had seen the man deflect a grenade like this before… and this time he had been anticipating it. He shot the grenade, and it exploded in mid-air with a loud bang and sent shrapnel in every direction!

Snake felt a few small cuts, but it was a small price to pay. He dove, not for the window, but for a row of tall boxes near the wall. He was behind the row, in a narrow spot. It seemed like a horrible place to be… except that the only way to reach him was a direct assault from in front of him.

Which is exactly what Snake was counting on.

Didymus had to refrain from laughing at how absurd the journal's notes sounded, and made sure to keep professional.

"I...really don't know what that would mean." he said.

"I'm afraid I personally can't be of much help here, except perhaps for providing a liaison and link to American codebreakers." he said.

Warehouse

The man with the pistol shook his head, again, as Snake hid behind some boxes.

He stood there, and called.

Snake would have heard more boots coming into the room, as the man with the pistol spoke again.

"You didn't even try to escape out the window? Fascinating..." he said. He went to the dead guard, and removed the grenade from his belt. He threw it just outside Snake's narrow covered position, and kept his weapon trained on the opening...

"So much for stealth..." Marco commented to himself, as this strange... bee-covered-guy... appeared out of one of the buildings.

Marco didn't really want to dare to question his daring of Marco's dare, 'cause he wasn't a jerk. But... he still wanted to know who this guy was.

"...and who are you supposed to be?"

[Alice’s Safehouse]

“Then you see my problem.” Alice said, shaking her head. “I assure you, my father wasn’t insane. He was a brilliant man, a scholar and a soldier. So this has to be some kind of code… I’m just not sure what.”

[Warehouse]

Snake decided it was time to end this. He threw his shoulder into the row of boxes when the grenade went off, and sent the entire stack of heavy crates falling towards the man with the pistol, and anyone else who might have come into the room!

Snake jumped up over the boxes as they fell and closed the gap, running up towards the man with the pistol.

Although he was a good shot, Snake was always at his deadliest at close range.

[Lofts]

The hornets flew away from him, and the strange man introduced himself.

“I am The Pain!” He cried, as he struck another power rangers pose. “You… are not who I was expecting.”

Nanami narrowed her eyes. “The Pain… sounds familiar…”

New York City

Fisk’s Apartment

Crystal frowned at Sama's idea, hands on her hips. "Wait until there's a commotion? What are you planning on doing!? You're gonna get yourself shot you know"

Crystal doubted he'd heed her concerns, so she moved forward and kissed him "Don't get yourself shot. I mean it you know"

Hawkins' House

Jason stiffened when Erin mentioned another child. He knew if he disagreed that he would face certain doom-

"Augh, you guys are too old to be having more kids" Solanna said with a shudder. In all truth she just liked to be the only one. Their princess pretty much.

[...]

"I don't like him" Samara said "His powers will hurt yours...He'll kill you"

She seemed rather certain of this.

[...]

"You say that like you can guarantee it" Melanie said with a sad sigh. "How are you gonna get rid of an entire crazy german government organization trying to blow everyone in New York up?"

Well when you say it like that it does seem kinda hopeless.

Paris

Chloe’s Tavern

"We'll be back later" Laila said to Chloe, not particularly friendly towards the other girl....But at least not flat out rude either.

Chloe nodded "Alright then" she then glanced at Musashi with a smile "Don't be too long miho"

Oh dear. The cursed nickname. Like Lance and Connor before you...You are a marked man Musashi.

"Well, we're... Sorry?"

That was a bit of a weird thing to say, that both Marco and Nanami were not who he was expecting. He'd be surprised if they were expected, but... that this guy was expecting someone else was kind-of confusing. And it didn't help Marco any, that he was acting like someone on a Super Sentai show, nearly 40 years before Super Sentai was invented.

"...and you know of this guy?" Marco then quietly asked of Nanami.

Didymus nodded.

"Indeed, but...I'm afraid I really don't know what he could be getting at. Again, codebreaking is not my specialty..." he said, looking around at the "safehouse".

Not exactly where an aristocrat would usually stay...but maybe she's trying to live without being tracked?

Warehouse

The man with the pistol jumped back, seemingly vanishing into thin air as Snake approached him, only to reappear behind him-a distance away, and he spoke.

"Your effort and courage are exemplary...and I know who you are. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Colonel Freidrich von Staffens." he said, and gave a small bow.

"I had no desire to involve you, American." he added. "But you had to, once again, go sticking your fingers, in another pie, is that how you say it?" he asked.

[Paris]

[Chloe’s Tavern]

Musashi seemed oblivious to Chloe’s flirtation, and simply linked his arm with Laila as they headed out of the bar and back into the streets of Paris.

“She seemed nice.” Musashi commented, because GS is horribly mean to his characters.

[Lofts]

“I’ve heard of him, yeah.” Nanami confirmed, keeping her eyes locked on the odd man in the ski-mask who had several hundred bees crawling around on his body.

“He’s part of an old military unit called The Cobras… they served in the Great War, and were considered one of the most dangerous and effective units in the entire conflict. Snake was one of them, too.”

Nanami had studied up on the Great War and military history at Musashi’s request, back when the Prince first decided that the Germans were suspicious.

“Oh? What do you know about Snake?” The Pain asked as he stepped forward. The bees jumped off his body and started flying towards Marco and Nanami!

[Alice’s Safehouse]

“That’s why we need someone who is.” Alice sighed, leaning back in her chair. She didn’t like relying on strangers, but if these Americans could get her access to a trained codebreaker… then things might start picking up.

“And we can probably help you with your mission, if you can help us.” Alice added.

[Warehouse]

Snake frowned. Now this was going to get annoying… but he was still confident in his abilities. Snake stayed in a defensive pose, and kept his eyes locked on Staffens.

“Too late. I’m involved.” Snake grunted, staying on the defensive. “And if you know who I am, then you know your little tricks aren’t enough to save you. There’s no need for anyone else to get hurt, so just surrender.”

No one ever surrendered, but Snake had to try.

[New York City]

[Fisk’s Apartment]

Sama grinned and for a moment he wished he would have forgotten all about the crazy gangsters with ties to international crime… but that would just mean Jeremie could throw him in prison, and he doubted there’d be any romance there.

… At least he hoped there wouldn’t be any prison romance in his future.

Shuddering and silently cursing his overactive imagination, Sama headed towards the window. He was just about to open it when he peered inside and saw something he didn’t expect.

Inside were several men. Wilson Fisk was clearly visible in the middle of the room, and the men next to him looked like his bodyguards. In front of Fisk stood and odd man. A bald man was talking to Fisk, and smiling in a very creepy way.

“… The Americans know you’re connected to HYDRA. It’s only a matter of time until you are arrested.” The strange man said to Fisk.

“I can get out of the country. Go back to Italy.” Fisk shrugged.

“Hmm… yes, that could work… but you know, there’s an easier solution.” The man chuckled. He raised his hand, and suddenly flames appeared around it.

Fisk gasped and stepped back. “C-Coldman! Don’t, there’s no reason to…”

Sama gasped as he realized what was about to happen. “CRYSTAL! Change of plans, go in now!” He shouted and then he jumped in through the window.

Coldman paused as he heard Sama, and Fisk used the opportunity to turn and run!

"I'm sure my superiors would be most interested in whatever information this diary could produce, and any further information you have as well." Didymus said.

"It sounds like our "helping" you would be of mutual benefit in and of itself." he went on. "But...what of you? You say you can help with OUR mission?" he asked.

Warehouse

“And if you know who I am, then you know your little tricks aren’t enough to save you. There’s no need for anyone else to get hurt, so just surrender.”

Von Staffens shook his head and spoke.

"The things you have seen, Snake. THOSE were "little tricks". Children, playing with fire, not knowing what they did or what it REALLY was..."

Something unearthly cried out from the main room.

Suddenly, the swollen man lunged at Snake again from the smoke! His eyes were rolled back, and his jaw was hanging limply open...but his movements were vigorous...

[Warehouse]

Snake wasn’t one for much chatter during a fight, so he did not answer Von Staffens. Besides, he suddenly had a much bigger problem when the swollen man came rushing out of the smoke and lunged at him.

Snake didn’t run this time. He stood his ground and jumped forward at the swollen man, maneuvering away from his arms and slashing forward with his combat knife, trying to slash the swollen man’s throat!

[Alice’s Safehouse]

Alice gave a slight smirk and sipped her tea for a moment.

“Of course I can! I’m fairly well connected here in Paris, and all around France, and I still have some connections in Germany, even in Berlin. I don’t know what your mission is, but if it’s brought you to Paris then you’re in my backyard; and I can help.”

Didymus nodded as Alice spoke.

"Yes, I suppose that makes sense. I can pass this diary on to some American codebreakers, though I do wonder, though I've also my guesses, as to why you haven't already gone to the French or something with this...at any rate, it's good to know you can help." he said.

It seemed as though they may have had a deal.

Warehouse

SLASH!

Snake's knife connected with the throat he aimed for, and blood spilled out...his target staggered back for a moment...then came at him again, trying to grab him and toss him against the wall!

[Alice’s Safehouse]

“Excellent.” Alice said and she sat her tea down and walked over, extending her hand to shake Didymus’. She had the diary tucked under her other arm.

“As for why I didn’t go to the French authorities… I did. I worked with a French code-breaker, but he couldn’t crack it.”

[Warehouse]

Snake was caught off guard and thrown into a wall! He felt his back burn with pain and he grunted as he fell onto one knee. This was bad… if he didn’t do something quickly, the swollen man would break him like a twig.

Snake was in a lot of pain at the moment… but he could still fight. He just had to make sure he ended things as quickly as he could.

… but an idea came to Snake. A nasty, unpleasant idea… but survival was important right now.

“Not looking forward to this…” Snake grunted. He stood back up and rushed towards the swollen man. He thrust his arm forward at the cut neck of the swollen man, trying to push a grenade into the cut in the swollen man’s neck!

Didymus paused, slowly reaching out to shake Alice's hand.

"I can't guarantee that our own codebreakers can solve it, though..." he said.

Warehouse

When Snake lunged, he was grabbed-but not before he thrust the grenade into the cut he had made.

It appeared the thing was now trying to hold him aloft and break his back-snap him like a twig, indeed, when the grenade went off, the arms shook, and he was thrown away (also preventing him from catching a shot from von Staffens' pistol)!

When he had looked up, he would have seen the results of his work-gore strewn about the place, Staffens aiming his weapon to fire again, and Snake may have felt a chill rush by him...

Staffens spoke again.

"Impressive, impressive..." he said. "...but that's hardly the worst we have in store."

From behind them, there was a cross between a howl and a wail.

"They may say war is Hell, Snake, you may have thought you learned it, but let me assure you-even YOU'VE no idea what that phrase can REALLY mean..." he said, but his voice sounded almost...regretful...as he said it.

"...Maybe you shouldn't have mentioned Snake..." Marco commented to what was very likely Nanami's amusement.

Using his "flamethrower", Marco then tried throwing some flames at the bees coming their way, so they hopefully would either be burned up, or decide to fly away.

[The Lofts]

“Too late now.” Nanami said simply as she moved behind Marco as he unleashed the flames from his briefcase at the bees. Several of them were hit and fell to the ground, crumpled and burned. Several more back up, and started to come from the sides and above.

“Let’s move! Don’t let them sting you.” Nanami shouted at Marco as she rushed forward, throwing her hand forward and sending a torrent of water at the hornets, knocking several of them away.

[Alice’s Safehouse]

“There’s never any guarantees… but right now, you’re the best chance we have. The French couldn’t break it, at least not the contacts I have access too.”

Alice frowned. “However… here’s the thing. I can’t simply turn this over to you without some kind of guarantee that I’ll be kept in the loop. I’ve risked too much to be sidelined, you understand, right?”

[Warehouse]

Snake looked up to see Staffens – and the gore that was left of the swollen man. Snake was not happy, and now he had bits of bloated Nazi all over him.

“… You’d be surprised exactly how much hell I’ve lived through. As for what you have in store… so far you haven’t impressed me.”

Snake wasn’t exactly being honest. This situation was one of the strangest he had experienced; but Snake wasn’t about to admit that. He stood up and stayed loose, but he was in pain. He needed to try to end this and make an escape.

He probably couldn’t stop Staffens now, but he had a name, and he had learned a lot… it was probably best to get back to the others and report this situation.
