Marco's eyes widened when he was shoved into the wall, which certainly didn't feel pleasant.

Though it probably would have felt even worse, had he decided to mention that in his view, she proved what he was saying, at least on a general level, with most of her response.

When she finally let him (mostly) go, he was finally able to breathe again, and let out his breath. But once he saw her eyes again, he sunk some more.

Maybe it wasn't that she was lying to herself and all that... but that she was just very confused... And that last line didn't make him feel all that great about how that just happened, as well.

"...you're right, that I don't know about much about your life or family... ...So I'm probably the wrong person to say anything" Marco closed his eyes, suddenly feeling really tired, along with feeling a bit small.

"...you have a lot of hate in your eyes. But... now they also look like they're searching..."

Marco then sighed.

"I'm following you guys because I want to help you guys try and stop another world war... But my emphasis is on 'you guys'..." With a gulp, Marco then re-opened his eyes, but then stared back at Nanami, with eyes himself that were full of fire and determination.

"Even if it means I get all of your hatred directed at me, I don't care. I'm going to help YOU find whatever you're looking for, as we go."

"... ... and again... thanks for the help, before..."

[Roosevelt Mansion]

[Kitchen]

The door from the outside opened before Coulson could respond, and in came Snake. He was covered in blood, but none of it was his. Next to him was a younger man with light hair, who looked confused, but also excited.

“We’ve got the area locked down. The men from the army are helping the Secret Service secure it, and the wounded.” Snake explained. Then he motioned towards the younger man. “This is Rogers. He’s… useful.”

Coulson’s eyes widened a bit. “Hmm… tonight’s certainly getting interesting. Big Boss, you and Didymus are wanted upstairs. It’s the third door on your right on the second floor… and I must insist you go now.”

Snake paused, and then understanding dawned on his face. “Ah… yeah, I figured.”

[Den]

Nanami was a lot quieter now. She fully released her grip on Marco and turned away from him. She hadn’t ever intended to be this obvious about things, but the truth was Marco had hit the nail on the head… she was searching for something.

“… Relax. My hatred is already reserved for someone a lot more deserving than you.” Nanami replied quietly. Her mind was far, far away at the moment. Memories danced in her head of fire and smoke, of blood… and of her family.

“I do have my own reasons for following the Prince, and it’s nothing as simple as duty or the desire to stop what’s happening… but what I’m looking for, Marco, isn’t something that can be found.”

With a sigh, she turned back to him at length. “... but I appreciate the sentiment.”

Just as Marco had said before, he did not have intimate knowledge of her life or family, just the info he had picked up from following Nanami and Musashi around these last couple of days, combined with whatever info was relatively well known about the rulers of Japan to most people. He did not know who this person Nanami’s hatred was reserved for, though he was pretty sure it wasn’t Musashi…

Nanami was not cruel enough to be someone who’d help someone else for a time until they almost reached their goal, before spitting in their face, laughing at them, and turning on them… Unless Marco actually was a horrible judge of character…

However, that didn’t mean her response sat with Marco any better than many of her previous statements had.

Marco stepped back towards Nanami as she was looking away, and grabbed her firmly by her shoulders.

“Do you think it matters to me that you say what you’re looking for can’t be found?” he asked, before he gently tried to turn her back towards himself, such that he could look up at her eyes.

“Because I’m still going to help, and because you will find it.”

Nanami tensed up when Marco grabbed her shoulders, but she allowed him to turn her so that they were eye to eye again. She wasn’t sure what to make of his persistence in wanting to help her… for a moment she considered telling him exactly why there was no solution to her search, but she quickly decided against that.

“… I appreciate the sentiment, but it really doesn’t matter. If you want to help, then help me keep Musashi alive, and try to keep this war from happening.” Nanami replied softly. She didn’t sound mad, but there was a hint of sadness in her voice.

Gallic Enterprises

Usually Kanna didn't listen to a word Galv said, but considering her daughter needed help she decided to listen and get Melanie somewhere safe. Instantly she turned to Rica. "Oi! Rica help me get her out of here!" she exclaimed to the man. She knew that if there were more Nazis Rica would be a good meat-shield for her.

[...]

Meanwhile Jade disappeared in a pool of shadows....Don't worry i'm sure she'll be back...Hopefully.

[...]

"Blake has no clue what he's doing, he's just a little kid" Joyce said, cradling her little brother carefully. They couldn't see what was happening in the other rooms so she was especially on edge....

And it didn't help that Samara was still standing there staring at them, making sure they didn't leave.

[...]

Crystal followed Sama closely, turning the corner with him. She couldn't help but to shudder...Something felt horribly wrong...Probably just the Nazis... She then noticed some of the dead guards....She couldn't help but to stare at them....They had large shards of ice through their chests.

A feeling of doom hit her.

"This can't be good."

Rica turned to Kanna and he nodded.

“Alright, but we can’t go out the main door… we can use the fire escape. Come on, follow me.”

He quickly headed towards the nearest window and kicked it open, motioning for Kanna to follow him.

[…]

As Sama turned into the next room, he suddenly stopped dead in his tracks. He saw the absolute oddest thing he had ever seen in his entire life – and he once fought a ghostly serial killer on London Bridge.

He saw a little kid made of shadows fighting with a man whose body seemed to be made of a black, metal substance… and the metal man looked exactly like Sama.

“… What the hell?” Sama gasped.

I can't see what you're imagining
-Roosevelt Mansion-

Outside

Aaron released his sword of light, creating a brief flare, nodding his head slightly.

Then, very slowly, he pitched forward and hit the ground.

Inside

Jenny hurried about, tending to the wounded, frowning as Snake came in, bloodied.

She ran over towards him, still frowning at him.

“Are you alright?” she asked, “You're not too badly hurt?”

She produced a clean rag and wiped off his face, “Your wound on your head looks fine, just superficial...”

-Gallic Enterprises-

Blake stared at Sire, frowning. How would he beat this man?

“Blake...you're a kid...you shouldn't be doing this stuff...” Samuel said, stepping forward. “Go help your mother and grandmother get to safety...I can handle so called Mr. Invincible.”

Samuel stepped in front of Sire, “So want to put that armor to the test? I bet my skin's tougher.”

Blake frowned, then disappeared in a cloud of shadows, appearing by Kanna, Melanie, and Rica.

“Grandpa said I should help you...” he said.

Now that he wasn't paying attention to the fighting, Jade would be released from the shadows...

Sage sidled next to Joyce, putting his arm around her shoulders carefully to try and comfort her.

“I wish I could do more...I really do...” he sighed softly.

[Outside]

One of the soldiers noticed Aaron, and rushed over.

“Hey, you alright son?”

[Inside]

Snake shrugged his shoulders.

“I’m fine, Jenny. Most of this isn’t my blood.” Snake said grimly. Although he had a gun, he primarily fought with his combat knife – which while effective, was also quite messy.

“I’ll be fine. For now, I need to get upstairs. There’s a wounded soldier against the house outside who could use your help more than me.”

[Gallic Enterprises]

Sire grinned at Samuel and held up his hand, flexing his fingers a bit.

“I bet you’re wrong.” Sire growled. “You don’t know what you’re up against, old man.”

Yeah, but neither do you, Sire.

"Useful..." Didymus muttered.

He shook his head.

I suddenly feel...Jenny talked the hostage-taker down, Snake got the reinforcements, and now this Rogers fellow...Marines aren't SUPPOSED to feel useless, but...any man who has devotion can stand in the place I've stood...

He headed to the indicated room.

Marco sighed, before taking a step towards Nanami.

"You're really are too stubborn," he then said, before he then hugged her.

Marco was also stubborn, and did not care that he was risking a hug of someone who slapped him in the face for him kissing her forehead, before.

[Roosevelt Mansion]

[Stairs]

Snake went with Didymus, and for a moment he was quiet, reflecting on the battle. Then he paused, noticing the expression on Didymus’ face.

He was fairly good at reading people. It came along with the job.

“Something wrong?” Snake asked.

[Den]

Nanami tensed up as Marco suddenly hugged her. There was, to her annoyance, a twinge of pink in her cheeks. Marco overly affectionate ways were starting to really irritate her… and yet she didn’t feel like stabbing him in the lungs.

It was a strange feeling.

“… You know, people are going to start to get the wrong idea if you keep on with this hugging and kissing.” Nanami muttered, turning away from him.

Actually I think everyone already has the wrong idea. Also I don’t think it’s actually ‘wrong’.

"Awwwwwww..." Marco pouted, as Nanami complained. He had noticed Nanami's face as she turned away, which caused him to add in a little laugh.

"So what? And let them!" he then added, "You're just going to have to learn to be more accepting of hugs!"

Marco then backed up, and leaned back against the wall, as it was getting a bit tiring for him to be standing for over a few minutes (after having just been nearly killed and all that).

"Maybe you can figure out how to add a kick to a hug, as well, in case of a stray Musashi popping up..." he then added, mostly pondering to himself.

Didymus chuckled.

"Heh. I...you got the reinforcements, Jenny talked down the prisoner, other people fought the "supersoldiers" or whatever...and this Rogers fellow seems to have impressed you. I was just an extra gun in this fight, and it may be putting some of my status in perspective..."

He gestured.

"But I suppose being outclassed is better than being surrounded by incompetents, if it has to be one or the other, right? Come, let's go to this debriefing they've got for us, hopefully we can get back to our own mission then..."

Nanami still felt annoyed… but more at herself than him. She hadn’t really protested the hug, at least in the way she would have if it had been from Musashi. Then again, if Musashi had hugged her, his hands would have wandered a LOT.

Still… while Marco might be telling her she needed to be more accepting of hugs, Nanami was already being far more accepting than she normally would; and that idea confused her.

She turned to say something, but paused as she noticed his condition. She had needed a few hours of sleep to fully recover, whereas Marco had been awake ever since he was stabbed.

“… You know, you should probably sit down. If you pass out, I’m just going to leave you on the floor.” Nanami stated matter-of-factly.

[Stairs]

Snake shrugged.

“So? You didn’t do much here… but as I recall, you were the one who knew how to defeat those… things… at the Statue of Liberty. Not everyone plays a major role in every battle. Believe me… there were several times back in the war that I spent most of the battle sneaking around in a cardboard box, or lying in a trench covered in mud.”

Snake became rather grimly serious. “What matters is that when you do have to take center stage, that you step up and get it done.”

"Thank you, but...it's not that simple. And it seems that everyone BUT me really played a major role here...more or less. As for the things, well...that may not have been quite as special as it sounds...the most important quality in confronting them was just having a little faith, perhaps...but perhaps not. I guess...meh, perhaps I whine too much, heh. Maybe I should be glad that I got off easy on that one, and just sorry that the rest of you have to apparently follow my lead."

He grinned his grim grin.

"Now come on, let's see what they Secret Service wants now..."
