Slums: Old Shop

"Ah, well...", Spoony answered.

"I'm actually kinda here by accident. See, it turns out I have these powers to, like, teleport and stuff... but, can you keep it a secret? I don't really want anybody to know."

Spoony tried to approach the girl, "I'm not here to cause you any trouble or anything like that! But, please, promise you won't tell anyone about my powers! Or even that I was here! My parents would kill me if they found out I came down here all on my own..."

Spoony then blinked and realized the girl had asked him who he was twice. "Oh, and I'm Spoony! Sorry I didn't answer that sooner, I'm a bit nervous about someone else discovering about my powers. Um, so what's your name?"

-Riley Residence-

“Goooooood morning Riley!” a chipper voice sounded from the kitchen, followed by the clinking of dishware.

A young girl around Riley's age tended to crash at his place, considering she had nowhere else to go. Her hair was white, a contrast to her tanned skin, though her eyes were a dark red.

She had already helped herself to some of the breakfast food, her hands crackling with fire as she cooked it further. She always liked her food burnt to a crisp.

-Slums-

Spork Residence

“It's just a toy, really,” Hammah said, grabbing it before it walked off the desk, “It runs by winding springs! When I was little...dad...made it for me...”

Hammah paused, looking a little uncomfortable now, glancing to Colette. “He said it was a prototype...”

Streets

Jimi sighed, moving through the streets of the slums, looking wary and generally angry at the world.

“It's for Hammah and Colette...I gotta remember that...” Jimi sighed, heading to work. Steam wouldn't make itself after all.

-Nicer Streets-

A very pale man grinned, walking along actually nicer streets. He was dressed in blue, and had jet black hair.

“I wonder what adventures will unfold for me today...” Cess grinned.

-Military Post 0014-

Samuel helped load up the crates and supplies, waiting as they headed into the slums.

“If you need someone to check the more dangerous parts first, I volunteer,” Samuel told Alice. “I feel like pushing my luck...”

“... How can we not have cleaned this up after five years...?”

Didymus had a thing or two to say, indeed, he could probably talk more of politics (theoretical and practical) than the aristocrat girl could (or cared to).

But she had quickly composed herself.

“I don't want to spook anyone away from us, so keep the perimeter light. Of course a couple of bodies nearby is good. I don't anticipate any problems, but I'd rather we're ready for it. Patrol if you want to, just stay nearby in case you're needed.”

Didymus nodded.

"I'll stick around our little outreach center, then, and check up on my perimter boys every so often."

He relayed the orders, and his own men began dispersing.

"I miss Sasha..." the large/fat bald soldier said.

"Sasha is too strong for this mission." Didymus told him. "This mission requires a delicate touch, at least right now."

The large man nodded, and slumped off with a rifle slung over his side.

"Let me know if you need anything or want any help, otherwise, I'll just stand here, look pretty, check up on my boys every so often, and..."

He chuckled a bit.

"...and pray that my unit's prescence with yours is unnecessary."

Colette watched as the little winding toy moved along on it's own, thanks to the work her older brother had put into it. The toy moved along until it finally reached the end of the table, and fell into Hammah's hands.

"I like it" she decided, extending her own small hands. "May I try it?"

Slums: Old Shop

"Uhhhh....I won't tell....I think" Sophie said slowly as the boy introduced himself to her....Perhaps this was all just a mistake like he said...

"I'm Sophie" she finally said, through still clutching whatever she could find that would knock a boy out unconscious (her hands had now moved to a block of ice she had been using on her eye.

"Going to a funeral?" she asked, pointing at his strangely formal clothes.

Slums: Railroad

"But it's my job! You just have to give me an extra big tip!" Crystal decided with a giggle before nodding. And sure, i'll come along!

KxS had checked out her book. She was now walking down the streets with the book in her ungloved hands. She took the gloves off in fears of getting the precious book oily.

The girl smiled, anxious to read.

Shimera's Abode

"Hm...?" Shimera opened her window to get a closer look at the streets. She was so sure she saw someone walk past her mansion.

"Maybe I could make friends with him...!" Shimera thought. Well, if there was any time to sneak out of the mansion, it would be now, for her parents were out working and her maids were busy cleaning after that messy new puppy the family bought.

She ever-so quietly tip-toed from the highest tower of her abode to the front door. She tried not to giggle as she opened the door. When she was out and the door was shut, it was then she giggled.

"New friend, here I come!" she said to herself as she ran from the front door to the streets. There, she stopped and looked around...then smiled as she saw the same pale guy that walked by her house. She giggled and started to walk toward him.

"Okay, good! Ummm... thanks.", Spoony said, in regards to Sophie saying she wouldn't tell anyone about his powers.

"Going to a funeral?" she asked, pointing at his strangely formal clothes.

"Hmmm? Oh, no, nothing like that. My parents are going to some snooty party up on a some flying airship thing, and they're forcing me to go, but I, uh, snuck out. Actually, I don't really like dressing like this, to be honest."

Slums: Caskett Residence

"Ya, ya, I know...", Rock replied. "But you know I'm good at handling trouble. By the way, where's Gramps?"

Alice nodded to Didymus.

“We should be fine, we are just handing out supplies. But if any trouble happens, you'll be sure to know it.”

She hoped there was no trouble. Alice didn't need any headaches or paperwork. She wanted a smooth mission that would go successfully.

That would not happen.

One of the people who approached looked like an ordinary man in rags... but when he got closer, he threw back the coat and revealed a rifle, which he aimed right at Martis!

“Gah!” The glasses-wearing soldier screamed as he was caught off guard.

“Hand over da supplies, or we're gonna blast yer boy here!”

Alice narrowed her eyes. “How dare you! Stand down at once!”

[Slums: Railroad]

Sama nodded a bit, but he wondered where he'd get a big tip for her. Maybe he could borrow it from Mr. Stark?

“Sounds good!”

Sama led her down the street, to a gigantic building. It was large enough to house an airship, but right now there was not one in there.

“Come on inside, Mr. Stark won't mind.” Sama unlocked the door, fumbling a bit with the keys, and led her inside the building. There were several work benches, tools on the wall, and various steam engines littering the room.

He looked around, and instantly a man in a suit appeared.

“Sama! Ah, Miss Crystal, nice to see you again.” Tony Stark nodded to the girl. “All dressed up? Let me guess, you have a date with some aristocrat... It's not me, is it?”

He had begun drinking a bit early. There was a whiskey in his hand.

“Mr. Stark.” Sama growled a bit.

“Yeah, yeah...” Stark waved him off. “You should get dressed, kid.”

[Slums: Caskett Residence]

Roll shrugged her shoulders.

“I'm not sure. I haven't seen him in a little while. He's probably upstairs.”

Slums: Old Shop

"A party.....On an airship!?!?"

Sophie went from suspicious to overly excited in about four seconds, proceeding to jump over the counter and rush over to him. She then proceeded to try and rip his suit off......

"You don't want to go right?! So let me!!!" the girl offered, ever so graciously as she yanked off his coat and then went for the boy's tie "You just stay here and run the shop for me and i'll go be you! I can pass for a boy and my grandfather's almost totally blind so i'm sure he'll think you're me!"

It wasn't that Sophie wanted to go to some dumb fancy party...But more that she wanted to go on an airship...More than anything in the world. EVER.

Which was why she was now grabbing at his shoes with his tie and coat over her shoulder.

Slums: Railroad

Crystal took the slightly drunken comment as a compliment and giggled politely "No sir, i'm just a waitress tonight. Thought i'd make a bit of extra money serving drinks and stuff" she explained as she took a seat. She then looked back up at Sama. "You go ahead and get dressed, i'll wait."

When the thug produced a rifle, Didymus and a pair of his men at the "station" hand quickly produced theirs, or at least tried to.

Didymus glared at the thug.

"You're in over your head. You drop one of us, the rest of us will drop you. And you'll get no supplies but a few cases of searing lead in your body. Is that what you want? Now put down that gun before someone gets hurt-you can make a defense that desperation drove you to this that may hold up in court as long as no one gets shot."

He listened, though; this guy may not have been acting alone...

...and as logical as his argument may have been (to him at least), he doubted this guy would listen to reason...

[Stark Industries]

Sama disappeared into the next room, where Stark had left a tuxedo for him. He quickly changed... but he didn't like the uncomfortable outfit. Soon enough he returned, wearing a black tuxedo and tie, with a top hat on his head.

He adjusted his glasses and sighed.

“I look like a penguin, dood...”

Stark shook his head. “Naw, you're fine. Come on, if your friend is a waitress, we should get there early.”

[Slums]

Alice was shaking with anger, and brandishing her dagger. She was ready to attack the thief if she could, but she didn't want to endanger one of her men.

“Yous guys stand down! I know how yous soldja boys think, yous don't like your buddies getting blown apart... so just stand down or I'll give this kid a new hole in his head...”

The thief paused, looking nervous. He didn't make a move to shoot Martis, but he didn't try to escape either.

Alice paused.

“... Didymus. He's waiting for something.” She said aloud.

The thief just got more nervous.

Slums: Old Shop

As Sophie began ripping poor Spoony's clothes off, Spoony teleported behind her and said, "Okay, okay, calm down, Sophie. Look, uh... I dunno if switching places is gonna really work."

Spoony now looked like he had been mauled by a tiger, considering his clothes were in shreds.

"Ummm... also, I don't think this suit's gonna really work out anymore."

Spoony rubbed the back of his head, "Well, listen... even though I don't really want to... maybe I should try to get back to that party. It was nice meeting you, though. See you later!"

Spoony closed his eyes and was just about to teleport out of the shop...

[Slums: Caskett House]

“Oh! Rock!”

Roll suddenly paused, and pulled her brother towards her room. She dug under her bed, and then presented him with a worn piece of paper she'd taken from a billboard.

“There's a big airship party for the nobles tonight! I want to go. I know we don't have much money, but I also know what train is going to the airstation... we could sneak aboard, and sneak to the party! Rock, I've always wanted to go to a fancy party like that... think we could do it?”

"Oh, wow...", Rock replied. "Sneak on board an airship? That sounds pretty risky, but..."

Rock rubbed his chin and then said, "Eh, what's the worst that can happen? Besides, it sounds like a lot of fun! Sure, I'm game! It's not everyday that we get a chance like this!"

Riley's Place

"Hey Firefly!"

Riley shot into the kitchen, grabbed a pair of toast pieces, the ones that were still pleasantly uncharred, put his own breakfast in between them hastily and chomped down as he was pulling his coat onto the other arm. Then, he switched hands, taking a bite out of the sandwich, drank the entire glass of water in one go and shot past the girl who was still messing around with the dishes and machinery.

"Bye, Firefly! I'll see you in a few, have to pick some stuff up!"

And so, he shot right out the door of the house, the door swinging closed on the spring installed on it, clicking from various spots following the door.

Riley was quick. He knew exactly what he needed to get, what to get it with and where to go to get it. His first stop was the slowest, the grocer, and he didn;t spend any more than 5 minutes to go through the stalls, pick up what he needed and get out, paying for all of it on the way.

His second stop was much quicker, since it was a mechanic's shop. Springs, gears, screws, metallic plates, tools... Stuff that he had broken, used up or had missing was quickly replaced, and now he had a second bag full of heavy metal to drag around.

He didn't seem bothered in the least.

At this point, he was beginning to slow down a bit from his morning rush and for good reason. The next stop was the junkyard, and he was going to go through the newest junk that arrived and see what he could use. The Junkyard was a place where all the broken machinery went to be scrapped, but no one cared much about the junkyard in the slums, so Riley decided to put the pieces there to good use.

The entrance wasn't guarded, as usual, so Riley just went in and started to take a look around. His eyes widened as he saw a broken automaton to his left next to the wall surrounding the junkyard, and grinned mightily...

[Half an Hour Later, Riley's Place]

The door opened up and a rather heavily overloaded Riley slowly made his way through. Both the groceries and the various bits of metal he picked up were now dragged along on a rather large sled that was full of a tonne of new materials, which included a broken automaton of Eisenberg make. Riley was sweating, but looked like Christmas has come early.

He didn't bother to stick around long enough to see if his resident freeloader was still around. That girl often appeared and disappeared as she willed, but she always came back. That's part of the reason the boy gave her the nickname "Firefly". Dragging the sled through the door, he went through the dining area, through a side passage and out back to his workshop where he dumped the sled amongst the work tables.

This was the place where he worked and performed his various experiments and repairs. Dozens of self-made and incomplete (and broken and complete-but-faulty) automatons stood all about, surrounding the 4 big tables that made the center of the workshop. A furnace blasted heat on the side, providing both heating for the house and steam for the other two mini-furnaces which also created steam of their own, the exhaust from those powering his house and his machinery.

On the table was an endless amount of paper, gears, tools, metal, candles, torches, lamps, and other objects that piled up in mountains. The table itself had 8 different seats, each on rollers to enable the boy's mobility while still being seated, a rather modest commodity that he could actually afford.

Everything around this place smelled of oil and smoke and most of all, youthful exuberance and genius. Riley was far too smart a kid for his age, though he still behaved the age he was, and it showed in everything he made. However, there was often something... Missing. Something even Riley was aware was missing, but could never put his hand on WHAT.

Sighing, he left the sled and the items on it in the workshop as he came back into the house, off to wash the grime off his hands. It was turning out to be a pretty good day so far.

Samuel stepped forward, frowning.

“If you want to shoot someone...shoot me,” Samuel said, “I'm a much better hostage. I'm former military. I have a son, too. There's more reason for them to keep me alive.”

Samuel moved slowly towards the man with the gun, his hands up.

-Spork Residence-

“Of course,” Hammah smiled, handing Colette the toy. On small letters on it's back were the letters, e, two ds, an i, and another e.

“You just wind it up with the key on it's back,” Hammah instructed, “Then it moves forward.”

-Streets-

Cess paused, grinning as he realized a blonde girl was following him. A cute one at that.

The boy spun suddenly, turning to the street at large.

“Come one, come all, and see my power!” Cess said, tapping the ground with his shoes.

The earth shifted beneath him, creating a table and two seats suddenly, the pale man bowing to the crowd.

“My name is Cess, master prestidigitation, seeing the future, and reading the signs the stars sign upon us,” Cess said. He actually did not believe in any of that stuff, but he found that pretending helped.

Cess paused, then pulled out a random woman from the crowd, looking at her palm.

“Gifted with a long life...influence...” Cess said softly, then looked up at the woman, “A mother as well?”

The woman nodded, and Cess grinned wider, stepping back and moving behind the table, producing a deck of cards.

“Five dollars per fortune,” Cess said, “Who's first?”

-Riley's Workshop-

“Hey Riley! Make anything neat today?” Aiden spoke up, as Riley reentered the house. She had not been there when he returned, but had come back when he was in the workshop.

“I managed to make some money!” Aiden said, “Workshop needed a fire person to help run their generator for a little bit, since their normal guy was sick.”

The white haired girl showed Riley some money, “It's not much, but enough for some food or supplies...”
