GRAPPLING HOOK!

[Airship]

Crystal giggled and straightened up, looking back to the drinks.

"Crystal! Who are you talking to over there!?" A vice demanded. Crystal jumped a bit and grabbed her tray, turning around quickly.

"No one!" she called out, winking to her friend and motioning for him to follow. She then rushed out of the kitchen, drinks in hand and hoping she would make a few good tips. "How about this, if everything goes well tonight we'll ask your boss for a job for me" she told him.

“Look, don't make a scene right now! Those two are soldiers, and they're here for a reason! We're working security for this crummy party, now just leave us alone, will you?”

The blond-haired sister was seething at this point.

"Who do you think you are trying to shush us up like that, especially in front of a couple commoners?! And soldiers, here?! Great, as if you wanting to be a man wasn't bad enough, now you're bringing along some of your army boyfriends or buddies or-"

"Ellie!" the dark haired one scolded. "...Alice, if those gentlemen are really military, we can take this up with whoever authorized them to be here later. For now, the important thing is that we try to cover this up. Although I don't think father will like this..."

"Won't like this, Solie?" Ellie spoke up again. "She arrived separately from us, with not one, but TWO men who are clearly NOT servants of our house...have you HEARD the things they're saying?!"

Solie nodded, but remained calm and collected.

"I've heard." she looked to Alice.

"Alice, please, these gentlemen have to leave. If they do that now, we can avoid any damage to our house-you arrived late because father sent you on an errand, and these men were sent by the man who father did business through you to ensure your safe arrival. Otherwise...again, you are the heiress apparent of our house. You must act as such. Appearing late to a party in the company of TWO men who are not normally associated with you...is not helping our family. Please, tell us who authorized this mission, and ask those men to leave."

Ellie shook her head.

"I don't know what's worse-that the military is sticking its fingers into our pie or that our own sister is going along with it. Alice, you have suitors waiting that are going to lose interest when they see...THIS." she pointed at Samuel and Didymus.

Didymus had grabbed a slice of beef from a table, and was simply standing next to Samuel, looking over the crowd.

...he still appeared on edge, and was looking intently...though every so often he would glance Alice's way.

"I tell ya, Samuel. Either we're sheep in a den of wolves or vise versa."

He chuckled.

Sama followed Crystal's beckoning wave out of the kitchen. He had a feeling that he shouldn't stick around the kitchen anyway.

He grinned at her words. “Excellent! Oh, that'd be great Crystal! Maybe he'll let you work on the airships...” He paused. “And if so, then maybe I can finally work on them...”

Though Sama had a close friendship with his boss, he had never been allowed to work on airships.

[…]

Alice frowned even further as her sisters clearly seemed to want to cause trouble. As usual, they cared more for the reputation of the family and the appearances than they did the safety of Hydron or its citizens – even the elite, it seemed.

“Now hold on just a second! You don't have any authority to send them away, and I'm not about to either. I'll have you know there's a very credible threat against the Mayor AND the Council. Father may not like me arriving late, but he'll like being assassinated even less!”

Alice was becoming a bit melodramatic, as she was quite sure her father would not be assassinated; there wasn't even a confirmation of the targets... but she was making a point.

“We're here to provide protection to you, and to Father, and everyone else in this room. If you don't like it, tough!”

At these words, Solie's hand shot to her mouth.

Ellie twitched, and grabbed pulled Alice in close.

"How DARE you speak of father like that? LISTEN. Even IF we for a MOMENT indulged you in your masculine fantasies of military work, don't you just do "war relief"? Father has ALREADY heard about a unit assigned to make sure yours DOESN'T have to deal with any actual fighting! And there's a threat against us now that REQUIRES the presence of a war relief soldier and a couple others? Prove it."

"Ellie, that's enough!" Solie's turn.

"Alice, please, I'm asking for the sake of our family-you wouldn't want shame or scorn to come on us all, would you? I know you value duty and obligation so much...and isn't blood thicker than water? Even IF there is a credible threat to our safety here, the finest bodyguards in Hydron-a small army of them-are aboard. Please, dismiss these gentlemen, and bring what information of danger you have to father-you know he can take care of it. Please, Alice..."

Didymus was still looking around, but noticed that appearently things were getting tense between the sisters.

"Hey..." he chuckled quietly to Samuel. "...looks like the claws are comin' out."

“Alright then,” Galv said, being led off by Jason, waving goodbye to Melanie. “Maybe we can dance later!”

Once he and Jason were in the bathroom, Galv grinned a bit, looking to the older male.

“You never told me you had a sister!” Galv said, “She's cute...”

Probably not the brightest thing to say here, Galv.

“I'm not worried,” Samuel said to Didymus, “Well, that's not true. But we are in a contained area. Once we take off, if there is an assassin on board...they won't be getting off anytime soon.”

He would be worried if he knew his son was on board though.

“Colette, do you see a way out?” Hammah asked his younger sister, as they moved through the air ducts.

At the entrance, a man with brown hair was dressed in a nice suit, his daughter next to him, in a dress.

“Hmmm...your invite seems to be in order...” the guard said, looking over the paper the man had given him.

“Excellent,” the man said, taking the paper back and entering the air ship.

Once they were out of earshot of the guard, the man turned to his daughter.

“Alright Erin...keep your eye out for anyone we can scam,” Antoine Russel grinned, “But be careful, got it?”

Erin nodded, grinning, looking for a son of some rich aristocrat she could scam.

Alice crossed her arms.

“This isn't normally the kind of thing Section Three does, that's true... but I am an Aristocrat. The Colonel figured it would be better to send a genuine Aristocrat rather than ruin the party by having a heavy military presence...”

She shook her head. “Anyway, I'm not trying to ruin anything for our family... but I can't ignore my orders! I'm not going to ask father to pull any strings either. I'm PROUD of my job in the military, and I'm proud to follow my orders.”

She crossed her arms. “Can I go now? I have things to do.”

Solie sighed.

"You mean Colonel Mustang? ...oh dear. Father already had reason to speak with him before, what with how he treats you..."

"Hmph." Ellie said. "He probably just wanted you to go to a ball so he could claim credit for sending you to it. Maybe he actually CAN treat you like a proper lady sometimes-including staying away from you." she said.

“Anyway, I'm not trying to ruin anything for our family... but I can't ignore my orders! I'm not going to ask father to pull any strings either. I'm PROUD of my job in the military, and I'm proud to follow my orders.”

"And what of the orders of your family?" Ellie demanded. "Let's ask father RIGHT NOW what he thinks, and-"

Solie held up a hand.

“Can I go now? I have things to do.”

Ellie twitched.

"Like what? Pit your boyfriends in a contest for your attention while your PROPER suitors look on, horrified?"

Solie spoke as well.

"We can finish this later, and consult with father..." she said. "...but for now, those gentlemen can stay, on ONE condition: they can't be near you. They've escorted you here safely, now they must look after the party overall-just like father's busniess associate told them to, right?"

She hoped her point would get across.

Spoony knew Sophie didn't mean anything by what she said, but he knew his sister wasn't going to take it very well.

Fork stopped herself from accepting Sophie's hand as soon as she heard what she said and halfheartedly responded with, "Hmmm... ya, thanks."

Spoony could feel that the tension was so thick, it could be cut with a knife. Speaking of which...

Fork looked behind and said, "Ah, it looks like mom and dad are coming. I'm sure they'll be... ecstatic to meet you, too, Sophie."

Spoony was suddenly starting to wish he could just disappear from here. Well, actually, he could, but he also wanted to keep his powers a secret.

--

Rock was still a bit... annoyed that he had to crossdress.

"Alright, alright, I guess there's nothin--", Rock suddenly bumped into someone while talking to Roll, stopping what he was saying in mid-sentence. He ended up dropping a few drinks.

"Gah!", Rock exclaimed, and then said, in the girliest voice that he could fake, "I'm sorry, Ms! I should have been looking where I was going!"

Rock then thought to himself, "Aw, crap! Now I just KNOW my cover will be blown for sure!"

The girl that Rock accidentally bumped into was Maize.

Shimera was in the best dress, best hair-do, and best make-up she could possibly find. Of course, in a dark-blue dress that sparkled like the night sky, she was sure she would look positively beautiful enough for the party.

Her hair was so long, it had to be put in something of a bun/ponytail. She had the ponytail part slung over her shoulder and neatly brushed. She smiled, hoping she could make some friends. Her parents DID want her to go.

She took a deep breath...and walked into the airship.

Fork seemed pleased, Spoony seemed a bit paniked, and Sophie was just plain confused...What was so bad about meeting his parents.

....Oh yeah...Filthy stinking rich. Those kinds of people weren't always the nicest.

"Now who do you have here my child?" A voice asked, belonging to a beautiful woman, probably nearing fourty or so. Despite being so ravishing she had a very ill expression on her face, as if she had just smelled a foul stench. The woman, Spoony's mother, looked down at Sophie. "What is your name young lady?"

Sophie blinked and stayed quiet....Something about this woman...

Spoony's mother frowned and inspected her closely. "Well? Can't you talk?"

[...]

"Oh geez, please don't say that about my sister" Jason said with a slight groan. "There's a reason I don't tell little boys like you about her....and you're not dancing with her!"

Yeah, Jason was protective.

the boy proceeded to grab a wet towel and tossed it to Galv so he could wipe the muck from his face. "Do you even know how to dance?"

[...]

Colette looked around, leading Hammah in the air ducts....There wasn't much to let them know where they were until suddenly a glimmer of light.

"Oh! I think we're in the ballroom! Ohhhhhh woooooooooowwwww" the little girl murmered, amazed by the people dancing below her. "They look like little dolls! How pretty!"

[...]

Crystal smiled, giving a little laugh. "Maybe if we're super lucky"

She then proceeded to move through the room, in effort to get rid of drinks as fast as possible. Every now and then she would get a small tip, usually from young men who were rather impressed with the idea of cutely dressed waitresses, which she would respond to with a polite smile and bow of the head.

[...]

Kanna and Tony made their way out to the dancefloor, twirling around a bit as many of the others did.

"You are quite light on your feet...Or it could be the booze...Either way bravo."

Crossing her arm once more, Alice let out an annoyed sigh from her sisters. It was one thing for them to treat her this way in private, or at Aristocratic functions, but it was totally different when it came to her military duties.

“I value the orders of my family, but there's more important things. I'm going to finish my mission, and I'm not going to have either of you stand in my way. Those gentlemen will stay for security and safety, as we were all ordered too. If you have a problem, then go right ahead and take it up with Mustang!”

She turned from her sisters and stomped away.

[…]

At the side of Spoony's mother was the boy's father. He was an Aristocrat – obviously. He wore a precise suit, and a top hat. The man had a hairless face and a evil grin.

He was Knife.

“... Hmm...” He sniffed the air for a moment, and then looked at Sophie, and then down to his son.

“... Spoony... are you associating with a commoner?”

[…]

Sama looked around the room, unimpressed by the fancy party. There were a lot of people here, but they all seemed very rich and unapproachable. Instead, he stayed near Crystal and finished the odd drink she'd given him earlier, while occasionally trying to grab an snack or two from the tables.

Then a man in a crisp white suit approached Crystal. He had slicked-back blond hair and wore glasses, and other than the insignia of a 'major' on his cufflinks, there was no real sign that he was among the visiting military.

“Thank you.” The Major took a drink from the trey and paused for a moment before turning back to a group of people.

“Soooo many weirdoes in here.” Sama sighed.

[…]

“Make no mistake, I've been drinking but I'm still as agile as ever.” Tony grinned, pausing a bit. “Though admittedly, any party is better with some booze.”

[...]

Roll smacked her own forehead.

"I'm sorry about him!" She said to Maize.

Didymus watched as Alice finally stormed away from her sisters, and as they made their way into the crowd again to find their father.

He come up alongside her.

"So, what's the word?" he asked.

"Oh they're not that bad" Crystal said happily, pocketing a particularly good tip she had just received. "Anyways, anyone is less creeptastic when they're handing you free money!"

That's some bad logic right there, but Crystal didn't seem to notice. Instead she stopped, grinning as she noticed a few giggling girls in nice dresses eying Sama.

"Looks like you have some admirers" she said sneakily, setting down her tray long enough to push him forward "You know you want to dance!"

[...]

Spoony's mother frowned, her stare on Sophie suddenly becoming ten times more intense...

"A commoner? How would one of them get in HERE? Ugh, makes me feel all icky just thinking about it" the woman started to inspect the girl again, paying special attention to her clothes and face... "What happened to your eye?" she asked, looking disgusted.

Sophie frowned a bit "I...Uh....tripped?" she tried.

"....Such a clumsy girl"

Alice was highly annoyed by her sisters, stomping back to Samuel and Didymus. She sighed and filled a glass with some punch, drinking it before she said another word.

“I'm just... ugh...”

She turned to Didymus. “We have our orders. Eyes peeled, gentlemen. We have no idea what the threat could be, or if it's real, but we need to stay on our toes.”

Not far from them, the Major in the white suit walked by, still sipping his drink. The man seemed to be making a walk around the perimeter of the room.

[…]

Sama paused as Crystal pushed him towards a group of odd rich women. He blinked, and turned back to her.

“Me? Admirers? Yeah, because that happens all the time... or never. I know it's one of those.” He rolled his eyes again. “I would like to dance, but...”

He shook his head.

As soon as Spoony's parents came by and started catching wise, Spoony's heart nearly stopped dead in its tracks.

Fork crossed her arms and asked, "Spoony... is she really a commoner like mom and dad say?"

Spoony tried to deny it, "I don't know where you guys are getting that from! She, uh, she's just a little different, is all! And she tripped because... uh... I accidentally tripped her when I was trying to help her onboard! She's not clumsy at all, she's as graceful as a swan!"

Spoony was hoping his parents would buy it... but he was most likely hoping in vain.
