[Shinigami’s Office]

Lance sighed, leaning against Shinigami’s desk and placing his hands down on it. She had a point. He had just taken all the blame and he would be in trouble. He doubted he’d be kicked out of school – but it would be unpleasant, he was sure.

“Should I have let you take the blame instead?” Lance asked, raising an eyebrow.

[Tower]

“Nothing good.” Cosmo replied bluntly as he stared at Genius. There was nothing overtly hostile about his tone, but he definitely didn’t look pleased.

Caitlin cleared her throat and Cosmo fell silent, saying no more, but never breaking his glare. Caitlin offered a cup of tea to Genius without a word.

“What can we do for you?” Caitlin asked pleasantly.

[Kubo Forest]

“Yes.” Shinigami confirmed as the holes in his skull where eyes should have been swept across the forest. He looked on edge – something that was never good. He simply crossed his arms, and then glanced at Kimi.

“… There’s been so much happening this year. It really is starting to weigh on me. Well!” He clapped his hands. “Enough of that. Let’s get back to the school.”

[Training Grounds]

Nanami was a little surprised when, at the last possible second, Lavan dropped all of his enhancements and tried to strike her with a simple kick. That was the last thing she had expected him to do, and the brief delayed nearly resulted in her taking the foot to the face – but she managed to dodge away just before impact.

And it annoyed her. She shouldn’t have to dodge from a mere kick – she should have blocked it, but Lavan was infuriatingly good at surprising her. That ability to constantly throw her off her game no matter the situation was what made Lavan among the most dangerous opponents she had ever faced.

“I shudder to think of what you could do if you did have mental discipline.” Nanami shook her head as she struck out with an open palm, striking towards his center mass.

You could cut the tension with a knife but Genius did not back down. He glared right back at Cosmo until Caitlin handed him a cup of tea. The man accepted it with a small smile, taking a sip before speaking.

"I had a slight run in with your son today. To be blunt, he attacked me."

Ummm technically he was leaving out the fact that he attacked first. But nevermind that.

"But that's not particularly the reason why i'm here. I'm more interested in how he attacked me and how it could potentially be misused. He used a power I have never seen before- which means a lot considering how long i've been around. He used his powers of healing...But reversed."

[Shinigami’s Office]

“Should I have let you take the blame instead?”

"Naaaaw, I definately appreciate you taking the blame, it was sweet" Chloe said, leaning forward and kissing the boy. "You'll probably get kicked out of school so we should probably make use of the time you're still here"

The girl looked around the office and suddenly grinned.

"Wanna make out in the headmaster's office?"

Shut up Chloe.

"Well, that's why you called me back, here, I guess," Kimi scratched inside her ear, "To punch the lights out of whatever evil crap keeps popping up around here."

She then nodded when Principal Shinigami mentioned going back to the school.

"Sounds great. I'm SUUUUURE your sons have missed by adooooooorable girlish charms hanging around here, these last few months..." she then added, cracking her knuckles, and a smirk growing on her face.

[Kubo Forest]

Shinigami nodded solemnly. He was far from one of his normal jovial moods. Instead he swept across the grounds slowly, his eye-less vision sweeping across the forest for any sign of those creatures.

“I called you back here because I fear that in the very near future, Kubo will be facing a crisis. A terrible and great crisis, that goes beyond anything we have faced before.” Shinigami admitted quietly.

He then paused. “Oh I’m sure they’ll be delighted to see you.”

They won’t.

[Tower]

Caitlin tensed up and immediately opened her mouth to speak – until she caught sight of the expression on Cosmo’s face and she fell silent. She knew she couldn’t speak openly about everything, not when she didn’t know Genius – but she also knew that she now had to keep a close eye on Cosmo so he didn’t do anything stupid.

Naturally, he did.

Cosmo stepped forward and grabbed Genius by the scruff of his shirt, glaring at him with a burning gaze that could have melted steel.

“If he used that power on you, then he must have been in fear for his life, and so help me if you lay one finger on my son I will make you wish you never existed!” Cosmo growled – and then suddenly he let go and stumbled backwards with a groan.

“I’m sorry about him. He’s feeling overprotective for a whole host of reasons that we don’t need to get into.” Caitlin sighed as she waved her hand. Whatever she had done, Cosmo was now wincing as he took a step away from Genius.

[Shinigami’s Office]

Lance felt a blush creep onto his cheeks. One of his eyebrows shot up onto the expanse of his forehead and he placed a hand on his hip.

“Chloe, do you really think making out in Shinigami’s office is going to help our situation?”

No but it might make you feel better.

Much like Connor before Cosmo went on the offense, grabbing Genius by the scruff of his shirt.

“If he used that power on you, then he must have been in fear for his life, and so help me if you lay one finger on my son I will make you wish you never existed!”

The man couldn't help but give a small flinch, but when he felt no pain he relaxed, stepped back and fixed his shirt.

"It seems as if you have the same short fuse as your son" he noted distastefully. "Makes me very worried about the welfare of my daughter. I'd hate for her to make someone like you upset"

Genius doubted Cosmo would ever hurt the girl his son seemed to love, but he didn't mind taking a low blow. Genius then looked to Caitlin as she spoke.

“I’m sorry about him. He’s feeling overprotective for a whole host of reasons that we don’t need to get into.”

"It's quite alright, I just came to let you know what happened. I think your son is quite strong, especially with a power like that. It could be used for a lot of good if he was properly trained to use it rather than lashing out at a concerned father trying to look out for his only daughter."

Throwing Connor right under the bus. And running him over a few times.

[Shinigami’s Office]

“Chloe, do you really think making out in Shinigami’s office is going to help our situation?”

"Sure, why not? You should always try things at least once...Or twice...Or four times before shooting it down" Chloe said with a grin, looking over to Shinigami's desk and hopping up so that she was sitting on it. "And anyways if we're already doomed we should have one last hurrah before getting kicked out of school forever."

Knowing Lance was probably going to have a heart attack by the idea Chloe gave a laugh, hopping down and stepping back in front of Lance. "Or we could just run away. Become nomads or something. Wouldn't be glamorous but we'd be together"

Nanami's counter came just as suddenly as his surprise tactic, and he wasn't experienced nor trained enough to see or feel it coming. If Nanami used the entirety of her force, she could have punched a hole through his stomach or turned his organs into jelly. Thankfully, this was a spar and she pulled her punches, but it still hurt like hell and Lavan doubled over, almost losing control over his territories again. He dropped and tried to avoid a follow-up strike, gasped desperately for breath and clenched his stomach muscles, trying to recover quicker from the blow. It worked enough for him to let out that breath he desperately gasped inward, snapped his control of his territories back under his own control and came up with an uppercut.

It was going to either be blocked or avoided. And he had a plan for both, sort of. If she avoided, his knee was coming up at the same speed and it could be turned into a full kick rather easily. But if it was blocked, he could follow up with the other hand, try a few palm strikes.

His motions were rough, untrained, they revealed his inexperience in true melee, but they were hard to predict simply because he didn't have a lot of formal training. His fighting style was truly instinct given form and attribute. Unfortunately, experience and style was always superior to instinct and spontaneity, so he was bound to lose this particular exchange as well.

That was fine. That was good. That meant that he still had much to improve, much to work on. It meant that he still had greater heights to reach and that he wouldn't be bored.

His breath came ragged, snapping in and out as his stomach smarted after Nanami's counter. He was sweating by now, physically exerting to try and keep up with Nanami's physical abilities while his mind attempted to successfully multitask and control not just his own body, but two territories as well. He didn't answer her comment, he had no breath to do so, not in the middle of a spar, not now. But he certainly had an answer ready, and it shone in his eyes. 'I know.'

Cosmo looked utterly livid. His fingers flexed at his side and his eyes darted out towards his wife. If Caitlin were not here to keep the peace, he would lunge at Genius and attack him. Yet he seemed to know better than to try that in front of her, so he simply shank away with his hands now buried in the pockets of his long coat.

“I don’t think you have anything to worry about.” Caitlin reassured Genius, and although her voice remained pleasant and kind, there was an unmistakable cold undertone. “Connor would never use that power on someone who wasn’t endangering his life. I have not seen my son in a very long time, but I know my father who raised him… he detests violence.”

Although Corwin may have made an exception for Genius too.

[Shinigami’s Office]

Lance opened his mouth to debate her, but he actually couldn’t. The idea of making out on Shinigami’s desk was utterly stupid – but if they were already expelled then he couldn’t very well make things worse.

He just sighed, shaking his head. Chloe was definitely getting in his head, and he wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or not.

“Tell you what, before we make out on the Headmaster’s desk or run away and become nomads, why don’t we wait and see if we’re going to be kicked out of school?” Lance suggested.

[Training Grounds]

As a child, when Nanami was first learning how to fight, she was forced to spar with people several times her skill level. They fought brutal hand-to-hand combat and no one ever pulled their punches. It was a terrible experience, and Nanami could practically still feel the pain from the bruises and welts from that training.

Yet as much as she hated it, it had worked. She was highly experience in the type of frantic, close-quarters combat she was now engaged in Lavan with. He was significantly less experienced and Nanami knew it, so rather than try to avoid his blows, she relied on blocking them with her forearms or her palms.

Or her other arms.

Suddenly in the middle of their rapid exchange of blows, Nanami had six arms, four of which were focused on blocking Lavan’s punches and kicks, while the other two were busy trying to inflict damage on him. Four of the arms were made of translucent water that would flash-freeze just before impact – while her real hands were busy trying to score as many blows as possible.

It made deflecting his blows easy, but the strain was showing on her face. Nanami was sweating and her eyes were narrowed in frustration. It took an enormous amount of concentration just to fight at these speeds – and to create four additional limbs and react with them as well just added to the challenge.

Nanami was good – very good, but she was quickly reaching a limit of concentrate with this particular technique.

"Perhaps....Then maybe school is the problem, you know how much kids want to fit in these days...Or maybe the stress of school has him all worked up in a tizzy. Or maybe family issues?"

Genius was most likely pushing the patience of Cosmo, and even that of Caitlin most likely. Genius' face then turned serious.

"Let me cut to the chase. I don't like your son. He doesn't like me. My daughter may or may not have been under the persuasion of him in the past but is no longer so her opinion doesn't really matter. Since all of these things are facts I'd rather your son stay as far away as he can from my Sarai OR actually fine tune his little 'skill' enough to actually be useful and protect her."

[Shinigami’s Office]

“Tell you what, before we make out on the Headmaster’s desk or run away and become nomads, why don’t we wait and see if we’re going to be kicked out of school?”

"Deal" Chloe said with a grin "But if he kicks us out we're totally gonna do it"

-Kubo Park-

“Okay... I'll come to you Ras, the park might be better,” Lily said over the phone, “I shouldn't be too long.”

Lily would hang up, and start moving towards the park now, her mind racing... she had something big she needed to talk to him about.

Elsewhere in the park, Paul was still sitting down with the book in his lap, glancing towards Solei, nodding towards the girl.

He paused, then held up the book showing her some of the words in it, pointing towards it. It was written in a very old language... he wondered if she understood it.

-Kubo Courtyard-

Galv's face turned beet red, looking downwards as Melanie asked what Raiju had said.

“He said... said ummm... that... any kids of ours would be very strong,” Galv said, mumbling the last bit.

-Training Grounds-

Cess had arrived to watch, making sure to stay out of the way and keep in the designated area for those watching.

Normally he'd be cheering on one or the other at random times, but this particular spar seemed... more important, especially after everything that had been happening.

But he did make a mental note to ask them about a three way spar one day. Cess wanted to put his Sacred Energy through more of it's paces.

Silhouette and Aaron nodded back as Cess left. Turning towards Hammah, they gave a friendly smile.

"Uhhh... hello..." Hammah said to the two.

"It's nice to meet you, Hammah. How long have you been a student here?" Silhouette said trying to avoid awkward silence, and because she was curious.

[Training Grounds #2]

"If you're sure." Emmett said curious as to how this go. nodding before he shifted into a fighting position.

The dust kicking up as Emmett ran straight forward, towards Maize, letting out a yell and pulling back his fist, bringing it forward and smashing it down where Mazie was.

Hammah looked a bit sheepish, looking between Silhouette and Aaron.

“Ummm... I've been here three years. I'm a green student,” Hammah said towards them. He was also one of the very few Keyblade wielders left, but that wasn't something that usually came up in introductions.

“Though I have a cousin as a Blue student, and two other siblings who graduated,” Hammah said. Technically, he had two cousins as Blue students, both Aboy on his dad's side, and Jade on his mother's, but no one likes to admit to being related to Jade, even Jade's twin, Crystal.

Maize rotated her shoulders, staring down Emmett as he charged. She grinned, dropping downwards as he came, bringing her foot around to try and trip him as he charged!

Their melee exchange was getting quite frantic, and just as Lavan was actually reaching the proper rhythm and starting to return strikes more often, Nanami went and grew four additional arms. The girl was like a whirling dervish of pain with just two arms doing the damage and blocking, but when her amount of limbs tripled, Lavan stood no chance at all. Even with the four elemental limbs doing blocking and no attacking of their own, Lavan still had almost zero chance to land a strike back.

Normally.

Lavan wasn't as fast as Nanami was naturally. She was quicker, stronger, more experienced and much better at fine-tuning her energy output. Compared to her, Lavan's control was a brute wielding a club against a fine artisan with a scalpel knife. But Lavan could make up for his weaknesses. And these spot-increases to his ability were one of the things that made him so unpredictable. He could vary his approach: force of punches could be increased through using fire as propellant, speed could be made up for with instantaneous trans-location and rocket-like thrust, endurance could be exchanged with evasiveness.

It was time to see how well he would fare with his newest trick.

A counter-punch from Nanami sent Lavan tumbling back, forcing him into a roll, and then further into another as she ended up chasing him down almost instantly and almost crashing through his skull with another punch, and he followed it with a moment of focus and once again managed to pull off an in-battle shift as he made distance between himself and Nanami.

Then he smirked, and settled into a slightly different and very aggressive-looking stance, similar to a karate stance but with subtle differences.

And then, he dove within him, and turned the knob of his internal territory's "valve" from "mostly closed" to "half open", and his body began to glow. Fire surged through him, lighting him from within like some lantern as feather-like flames sprung from his joints at the knees, ankles, elbows, wrists, shoulders and any obvious joints, with his neck spilling the longest "feathers". This was the advanced and true form of his "Ignition Impulse", which he had used before to great self-damaging effect by burning his own spiritual force as fuel, but now did not need to as his internal territory and stored power fed the ability the steady stream of energy it needed to work.

And then, he was on Nanami, once again in her face, and MUCH faster. Just like her own arms, this particular technique was exceptionally draining and Lavan couldn't keep it up for long before it ran away from him and his lack of physical endurance caused the flame to "burst" through him like high-pressure water through pipes that were too weak to withstand the pressures.

It wasn't truly enough to make up for his lack of skill, but this sort of internal loop-feed allowed him to push his body far beyond its normal physical boundaries. The initial punch he sent had much more force behind it, and the following kick almost sheared through one of her elemental arms. Almost. And then, Lavan's grin went wild as his body blurred, and exploded into staccato of fast strikes that came with the frequency of a heavy-metal drum beat.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Kubo Halls]

Ever since he arrived here, the mysterious boy-swordsman who introduced himself to the Shinigami has mostly remained anti-social, sticking to training and meditating most of his days. While he had been assigned to the temporary quarters in the dorms for now, the quarters mostly used by visiting guests and reporting reaper squadrons, he knew that wasn't to last for long. Every student in the academy needed to be in the dormitories, and he was quite sure that his now-yellow uniform proved that he would be in the dormitories before too long.

The question was a matter of when, not if.

There was another reason for his less-than-social habits. He had been terribly confused as to where he was and why he ended up here, having no direct memories at all about anything before his arrival. He knew things: he knew combat, he could feel his body respond, he knew and remembered skills and abilities, but the faces of teachers and mentors, the places that he most likely would have been to, all such things were muddled, hazy and unrecognizable, as though someone took his mind and placed a great veil over it.

It was enough to force him into almost constant physical workout and meditation as he dealt with what amount to almost total amnesia.

So it was that he was coming from a secluded place in the gym where he was previously exercising and meditating, his swords hanging openly at his waist as he wiped his brow clean of sweat with a towel.

Even now, within these walls, he felt out of place. He looked at and felt the walls around him, so unfamiliar and so foreign that he knew that this was not the sort of construction he was used to. For a moment, he felt stifled and trapped, and dashed down the hall in what felt like sheer panic as he burst out of the front of the academy, skidding to a stop and taking a deep breath, letting it out slowly as he reasserted control over himself and centered. Turning about, he glared at the enormous building that was Kubo Academy.

No... He knew he was here for something. He knew it, but couldn't place his finger on WHAT he needed from here. Nothing here was familiar, nothing here felt like home, but he knew that he couldn't leave now...

This was what caused so much of his internal searching recently. The attack on the school. Helping in its defense. The whirlwind of activity right after as he was left to his own devices...

... And this blasted amnesia and all of his senses screaming at him that this wasn't home.

He moved aside, dropping to the grass next to the path approaching the front doors of Kubo, watching the school building with those perpetually-closed eyes of his. Glaring. Contemplating.

[Tower]

It was clear that Cosmo’s patience were nearing their limit. His hands were clenched at his side and his jaw seemed tight, and his eyes were glaring darkly at Genius. Just as he started forward, Caitlin suddenly spoke up, moving instinctively between her husband and Genius.

“I had hoped we could be courteous.” She shook her head, and for a moment she looked sad – but then her eyes flashed and although she still spoke in a pleasant tone, there was a certain danger lurking in her voice.

“This is really none of your concern. What our children choose is for them. I will not be interfering in their relationship and neither will you. Stay away from my son.”

[Shinigami’s Office]

Lance groaned, running his hand through his hair. Chloe was… Chloe. There was no other way to describe her.

“Perhaps you shouldn’t.” Shinigami suddenly appeared in the room, and as always his eyes were shapeless voids that held no emotion.

[Training Grounds]

Nothing was ever as dangerous as unpredictability. Lavan was essentially unpredictability personified, and that more than anything else made him the perfect training partner – and the most annoying enemy Nanami could face who she wasn’t related to.

It was impossible to guess what he would do, since there was nothing the least bit logical about his thinking. Sure, she knew many of his tricks from years of having known him – but he always seemed to find a new way to use those tricks and he was never, ever predictable in what he did. Something that sounded crazy and suicidal to a normal person was a great idea for him.

So when he was suddenly burning with feathery flames and moving at speeds that far outpaced anything Nanami was capable of, she growled in frustration as she was quickly placed on the defensive.

Suddenly she was flying backwards from the force of a massively-powerful punch as she dropped the extra arms and bounced across the ground, rolling several times before kicked out with her leg and propelling herself back up into a crouching pose. She could practically feel the bruise to her ribs forming, but she watched Lavan with narrowed eyes.

“That’s pretty good… but can you even sustain that for more than a minute?” Nanami called out to him.

He said... said ummm... that... any kids of ours would be very strong,”

Melanie's cheeks suddenly went very red, but unlike another of CR's characters who would be unspeakably embarrassed by the notion that she would one day procreate with her boyfriend Melanie seemed enamored by the idea. A little embarrassed...Yes but mostly enamored.

"You really think so?" She asked with a small giggle. "I mean I always pictured them to be really good students, since we both get good grades and everything but I dunno how well powers like ours mesh. Hopefully they dont blow up or something"

Exploding babies....Nice.

Tower

Genius very well expected Cosmo to loose his cool, he was a man and thus had a fuse so short it would put dynamite to shame...But he was more surprised when Caitlin's sweet demeanor turned cold, warning him to stay away from Connor. The man frowned, he really didn't like speaking illy to women, but he also couldn't hold his tounge.

"I will stay away from your son when your son stays away from my daughter." Genius said with a dark frown. "After your lack in parenting experience I don't think you're in the position to tell me what rights you think our children should have. They're children! If we let them do whatever they wanted we'd probably have grandchildren by now!"

Hahaha obviously Genius knows Sarai even less than Cosmo and Caitlin know Connor.

Dorm Room

From her spot against Connor Sarai suddenly frowned and stiffened. "Oh god he's mad....." she mumbled, sensing something not very good. The girl stood up, finding herself pacing around. "Really mad....Will you still be my boyfriend even if my dad locks me away and we never get to see e-eachother?"

[Shinigami’s Office]

Chloe jummped when Shinigami appeared, the headmaster catching her off guard (even though THEY were in HIS office).

"O-Oh! Headmaster! Welcome back, get whatever you were doing done?" Chloe said with a grin, sliding off of his desk and rushing back to Lance's side. She quickly took his hand and looked back to Shinigami. "Please don't expel Lance, we didn't really know we were suposed to go out there, and Lance was only following me after I threw myself off a tower"

Which sounded ridiculous but was totally true.

Nanami bounced away, landed on her feet after rolling back from Lavan's punch, brought up her defense once more... And Lavan was already right there, following her as he snapped off another straight kick. It was rather easy to dodge, since it was perfectly telegraphed, but the force from it would have definitely dealt some damage.

"A minute? HA! I wish! But guess what, Na-chan! Can you keep up for the 38 seconds I GOT???"

And with a crazy laugh, he vanished from his spot, fire-transferring to her left with his leg raised, dropping it in an axe kick that was boosted by the technique he was using to boost himself and his usual limb-boosting rocket-propulsion trick. The amount of force in that kick was many times what he was usually capable of, and was quite dangerous even to Nanami and her resilient form. The follow-up attacks lacked that initial force he put in, but that first trike was meant to be dodged anyway. Several quick round-kicks that would have normally looked silly and choreographed in real martial arts but were still quite potent due to the speed they came at turned into a full breakdance-like spin that sent multiple kicks against Nanami's center of mass, head, legs, knees and elbows. Once he made one such full spin, he ended up in the air, using his hands as a springboard to laun ch himself up and over the girl and into an up-axe kick that could have potentially shattered her jaw if it landed, but once again was a strong hit that was more or less easily evaded.

Nanami was right. He couldn't hold this for very long, not with keeping up his internal and external territories at the same time. If he let her counterattack, he would most likely be knocked out of his concentration, and he would lose at least one of the three. So he pressed the attack, taking the initiative and driving forward without any pause, using his very limited amount of time to the fullest.

In battle, moments could feel like an eternity, and seconds could last a lifetime. In combat, where every single moment counted, even half a minute was a long time. And Lavan knew it perfectly well. In half a minute, if given the chance, Nanami could turn him into a pincushion. It took seconds for the most destructive of entities to live up to their name. Lavan knew this all too well.

He wasn't going at the maximum he could. His Ignition Impulse was a slow burn compared to a hot inferno he could make it. But if he tuned things up, it would go past sparring level. This fight, this spar with Nanami, was a test of how far he had progressed and how far she had come. It wasn't lethal, it wasn't meant to be. It was meant as a test... And a promise.

A promise that Lavan was making with his actions, that he would continue to improve until he was just as good as his sparring partner.

As the connection with his little arcane orb terminated, Ras let it fall into his hand and smirked, the ball blinking and vanishing. Still lying down on that branch, he stretched out and yawned, closing his eyes and simply enjoying the slight wind, the rustle of leaves, and the occasional ray of sun that peeked through the branches of the tree in which he took up residence.

Now becomes the the past in an instant — and everyone will eventually die! Destiny triumphs over human knowledge and goes mad! That is the way of things! I spit upon this frail, crazed, world! I spit upon the Second Law of Thermodynamics!
~ Desty Nova, Karmatron Theory

Let them Label me! Let them swear and curse at me as I tug humanity like a bucking bull into the darkness of the unknown, revealing its secrets to the sane and driving them MAD! In ages long past, I shall be looked upon as a tyrant and a savior! As a savant and as a fool! My work shall advance humanity long past its time, throw it into the unknown future and force it to grow strong or FALL! Years from now, when I will inevitably be removed, my work shall continue to progress, because these things cannot be denied! Governments will publicly criticize my work, but privately conduct research that advances it! I shall imprint myself into the annals of history, among the stars that shine as brightly as Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton, Benjamin Franklin, Dmitri Mendeleev, Nikola Tesla, and countless others! My work will shine as brightly as any star, and I AM ITS CREATOR!!!
