Indeed, the girls were of little threat as long as Nanami kept them at a distance and was never struck by their incredible strength. Nanami herself was quite a bit faster than the girls on average even though the doll-like puppets were exceptionally quick in straight rushes. So avoiding them was next to nothing for an experienced opponent.

Lavan, however... His skill and ingenuity was all but gone, and instead replaced with strength, durability and a very dangerous fire that burned at everything. Nanami managed to brush the flame off with some difficulty, having to resort to an aura flare to dissipate it, but the burn mark remained, angry and sweltering.

The aura expulsion was enough for that second of concentration than Nanami took to focus her power, and her three assailants were now on the defensive, assailed form all sides by frozen spikes. Lavan brought his arms and legs closer to the body, taking a defensive, fortified stance as the black flame licked at the spikes that came close, melting them before they could do any piercing damage, but nonetheless pummeling him from all sides with quite a bit of force. The girls weren't so lucky. Within seconds, their defenses were overwhelmed and they were impaled in multiple places by ice, dissolving into...

A black, viscous liquid.

Black Blood. The girl-puppets were made of Black Blood. And from the looks of it, so was the mist. Nanami kept the black fog away from herself so far, but now she could SEE the mist react to the black liquid the puppet-girls were made of.

And the more fog collected, the more intact the pools looked, as though the girls were re-generating...

----------------

The impact with his forehead definitely knocked Ras senseless. With the boy trapped in Samuel's grip, he could do nothing about the incoming headbutt of an invulnerable head, and starts exploded for Ras in his eyes. The boy went limp for just a moment... And then jerked uncontrollably, suddenly struggling again, but this time even more erratically. From the front, Ras's eyes were clouded and blank, black as night and unseeing.

Samuel DID knock the boy out... But the Black Blood infested the body, and through it, the brain. Now, the Black Blood started to move the body, since the brain was no longer in effect.

It didn't get Ras anywhere, but Samuel could hear the crackling of Ras's bones as the body struggled in futility against the larger man's grip: Ras's body was literally trying to break itself apart to escape the man's clutches!

----------------

If there was one thing you never did, it was threaten the loved ones of someone. It inspired fury, it inspired the pushing of limits... But it also inspired uncontrollable rage and decrease in lucidity. By taunting the boy so, the girl was hoping to make him more vulnerable to the aura of Madness that permeated the entire area of the Black Fog, and the boy fell to it hook, line and sinker. With Galv now channeling additional fury into his strikes, even the smallest of touches from Black Blood would be dangerous.

Now, if only she could figure out how to touch him without getting hit by that blasted lightning!

The sound blast impacted with two of the dolls without any warning, and their bodies were scattered into droplets of Black Blood within that initial impact. Another one came out of the fog to replace them, and with the one that initially taunted Galv, the two pair-attacked again, throwing needles of Black Blood at the boy, trying to get past the lightning aura, just to at least get ONE hit in...

From the way she figured, one hit, and it would be over. And then, another boy-toy would join the slaughter.

---------------------------------------------

[The Tree]

As Damion and Aboy retaliated, the girl was put full of a few more holes, and finally Damion's shot pierced her head, and the doll-like girl dissolved into a black pool of viscous liquid. But before they could catch a breather from their victory, another one of the girls stepped from the fog, which seemed just a little bit thinner now...

"Really? Is this all you have? It's PLAY time, you don't have to hold BACK, you know. I know I won't!"

And with a motion, the second girl DETONATED the black pool of blood like a stick of dynamite, producing enough force to splatter the Black Blood everywhere...

And maybe, to her own luck, some would catch Damion and Aboy unaware...

---------------------------------------------

[Endsville Streets]

The thing that tried to slit his throat was in optimal range of striking, and Spork unleashed one of his more devastating combinations upon Asmer's Soldier, raining blows at it with enough force to cave the body inward with every strike. And it survived up until the very end of the combo, only being finally taken down by one of the end blows of the combination strike, sheared in half and then dissipated into droplets of Black Blood that splattered everywhere.

Now, with magic assaulting them as well, the other two found themselves cornered. They still stood their ground, weaving around one another, but they didn't have time to attack Spork anymore, allowing him to increase the offensive while they were forced to defend absolutely.

But even then, they blocked his strikes from the most awkward angles, and magic seemed to be much less effective against them, washing over what looked like a rippling field before puncturing through and striking, but with much less force than intended. They still remained alive...

And they still stalled him...

----------------------------------------------

[Kubo]

With Walter raining ice at the wounded, but regenerating soldier, the thing decided to try and back off. Walter's ice punctured through a rippling, black field, lessening the impact of those spikes, turning lethal strikes into mere scratches. But the rain of frozen spikes were enough to put it on the defensive and for it to jump backwards...

In the meantime, Hiko was regaining focus. With his sword in hand and his breath quickening, he now felt the adrenaline of combat, which sung in his veins and sharpened his senses. Without the madness affecting him due to Cess's protection, he now could focus properly, and instead of his mind circling in panic, he focused the storm of battle, and calmed, the eye in a whirlwind of motion and force.

And as he did, his ki reacted, once again rising from its depths within his mind. Focused, intent on his action and stable, Hiko watched with a calm and calculating eye as the soldier he hurt previously was backing away from Walter's ice spikes, jumped backward... And Hiko made his move, shifting position quickly with ki reinforcing his movemtns, so quick that it looked like he just appeared behind the soldier, and the blade once more found purchase. This time, the strike was lethal, a diagonal blow across the monster's entire chain-covered back, the steel blade shearing through skin, bone and steel with equal ease, forcing the soldier to revert to a pool of Black Blood.

However, a second soldier was attaching Hiko from the side now, and he tried to jump out of the way, with the soldier close on his heels...

------

Cess's fight wasn't going as well, however.

This wasn't just outclassing. With Shinigami-Sama, there was a level of certainty that the God of Death would not KILL Cess, and would try to keep him from being grievously injured. With Asmer... This fight with Asmer was different.

The monstrous servant of Asura BREATHED murder. The scent of blood, bone, corroded steel and rotten flesh permeated the air around the monstrous figure, and it fought with one goal: To KILL. Cess was not fighting to WIN now... He was fighting just to survive.

And Asmer proved to be far more than a simple opponent. The Spirit gun blast impacted with Asmer's arm, stopping its strike, but only momentarily. It was just a fraction of a second to realize that the blast didn't quite stop Asmer's strike, but Asmer's strike stopped the blast. It was quite the difference...

Because the monster now held Cess's Spirit Gun Blast, still contained, within its clawed hand. And with a throaty, dark chuckle at the irony, Asmer released it, firing Cess's Spirit Gun point-blank right back into the boy.

Samuel frowned as Ras started to move under control of the Black Blood. He let go, jumping back a couple feet to allow a little room. If the Black Blood was crazy, unfocused... well, right now Samuel could let the Black Blood try to beat on him, until he could figure out a better plan of action.

That was until a beam of light shot out, wrapping around Ras, attempting to pin his arms and legs together, trying to prevent him from moving at all!

Lily scowled, hand up as she focused on her binding spell...

Galv froze suddenly as the needles came at him. His electrical aura seemed to die down, collapsing around him, making it much harder for anything to get through.

“...If you want me, you'll have to come at get me...” Galv said, smiling suddenly, “You can rain needles at me all you want... But I can stop them.”

He took a single step towards the girl, “You have to be conscious somewhere, right? I don't really know how this works, but there has to be some kind of intelligence directing these... clones...

“So why don't you face me yourself, or are you afraid to get shocked?”

-Tree-

The Black Blood detonated, coming dangerously close to Aboy and Damion... before it froze suddenly, ice moving around it, freezing it solid.

“Now, now then... I already have one grandchild possessed by this foul stuff... I don't need another.”

Xehanort seemed to simply step out of the shadows, smirking slightly. Aboy froze, not sure which she should be more worried about. The Black Blood, or her grandfather...

“You, boy... you might want to take my granddaughter somewhere safe. If she gets hit by the Black Blood... her true name might be enough to over power it, but I'm not entirely sure,” Xehanort said, then turned towards the girl.

“You're just an extension, aren't you? I'd rather not waste my time with you,” he sneered.

-Endsville Streets-

“Enough of this,” Spork scowled. He brought his blades around, then stabbed them into the ground.

A blast of light suddenly shot from the Keyblade master, aiming to take out the beasts once and for all, using an attack they would either have to completely flee from, or be unable to dodge...

-Kubo-

Outside

“Annoying,” was all Walter said as the beast seemed partially immune to his strikes. He focused, aiming for one of the monsters now, summoning his water powers all around him.

It swirled in the air, then shot forward at it, attempting to surround the creature in a bubble of water!

Cess smirked as the blast was redirected at him. It was energy... his energy.

His Sacred Energy.

The energy hit his own aura, feeding off of it, and Cess swirled it around himself, firing it at Asmer himself.

Then he moved, right behind the blast, bringing his sword up. Asmer could either catch the blast, try to deflect, or dodge it...

At the last second Cess swung his sword around, stabbing it through his own orb of energy before it could hit Asmer, and let it explode outwards, attempting to use it for a wider radius attack!

Inside

Paul was worried, wondering what was happening, looking towards Rumi.

He didn't waste time signing to her. He knew she was more then smart enough to realize something was wrong.

So instead he focused, his hands moving oddly, differently then when he was simply speaking. He was casting a spell!

Protection

A glow covered himself and Rumi, giving them some all cover magical protection against whatever could be out there.

Edda hurried through the halls himself now, Sol out, the two both worried... but determined... Friends were in danger, he was determined to find Paul and Rumi...

Haruka simply raised an eyebrow at Shiori and crossed her arms. She wasn’t getting Shiori to take the bait, and that made this whole game a lot less fun. She gritted her teeth for a moment.

“… You’re really not fun.” Haruka sighed deeply.

[Kubo Park]

Nanami now realized just how bad the situation was.

The mist, the girls, they were all black blood. She didn’t like these odds. As long as Lavan’s mind was lost, she had him as the most dangerous adversary around – but these girls would just keep regenerating, and she knew that the longer she stayed surrounded by the black blood mist, the more it would seep into her psyche.

The Ice Queen of Kubo would be a particularly difficult target for the black blood to influence. Her entire life had been rebelling away from being under the influence of others – whether that was her father or Seiryuu. It was second-nature for Nanami to rebuff outside influences, but this was a powerful and dark magic, and her resistance would not hold out forever.

She needed to do something. With the new heights of her power and potential amplified by Seiryuu submitting to her will, Nanami could have theoretically done exceptional against these foes – but she had not had nearly enough time to practice with these new abilities. She hadn’t even tested herself since the other day, and the battlefield was no place for a test of unknown powers.

Every advantage she had was quickly becoming neutralized. She needed to do something and fast.

She needed Lavan to snap to his senses.

“Razy, you’re better than this.” Nanami called out as she stayed on the offensive. She sent spikes of ice in every direction and used large turrets of water to push away the black blood whenever it came near to her.

“You can overcome this. You’ve always been the free spirit. You never listen to what anyone tells you; not Shinigami and not me. So why listen to this perversion of Asura? Fight it Lavan. Please…”

She stared towards him. “I need you to fight it…”

"You're giving me no reason to BE fun..." Shiori was beginning to get really frustrated with Haruka's nonsense.

However, she did not wish to engage Haruka in a fight, nor agree to dump Musashi, both things seemingly being outcomes that Haruka was looking to incite from Shiori.

"...so again, just what is your point, here?"

It was a good thing that Xehanort had appeared. Damion's defensive skills consisted mostly of his ability to dodge or improvise with his hammer. He didn't have his hammer, as it still was in the ground away from them, from when he sparred with Aboy earlier, and his maneuverability was not as great when he had to carry Aboy away or shield her.

This exploding black blood was not something he would have been able to dodge again, though he might have been able to block Aboy from it... but that would have come at his own expense.

But it was also a bad thing that Xehanort appeared. He was a creepy old guy that was very annoying and scary. And the fact that he just showed up AGAIN, almost made it seem like he was creepily stalking Aboy.

Plus, his ice seemed to have much more of an effect on this black blood, even just temporarily, than Damion's own ice beam blasts. Probably because he doesn't get STAB. This old guy was dangerous. But the help was still appreciated at this moment, at least, so Damion nodded, and carried Aboy towards his hammer so he could grab it again, at least.

"...what do we do?" he then asked of Aboy.

Kubo Academy - Somewhere inside

"This feels a bit like that last time something big happened here..." Rumi commented, remembering when they had to deal with that crazy pink haired kid with the screaming sword... She also was scribbling quickly into her notebook, before summoning a small figure that wore boxing gloves.

Haruka watched Shiori closely, as if studying every inch of her face. She grinned like a maniac and slipped her hands behind her head, whistling innocently.

“Maybe I’m just trying to have a little fun… or maybe, I don’t know, but this is a possibility, I’m trying to HELP YOU.”

Haruka’s hands moved back down and she crossed her arms, an intent frown forming where there had once been a grin. “Did you ever think maybe I’m being sincere?”

Nanami VS Lavan and the Dolls

The water torrents and ice spikes seemed to be able to keep Lavan and the dolls at bay for the moment, but it couldn't last too long. While Nanami could keep up such a defense for a while, it looked as though the girl-dolls of Black Blood weren't stopping. A spike running through one and dissipating it just turned into two more coming out of the mist, which was getting heavier and heavier, deeper and thicker with every second, as though fed by something within the area. It was as if mist was using the city of Endsville as food, nutrition to grow stronger and stronger.

Whatever it was, it surpassed a mere spell. This was a living thing, and it was growing stronger every moment.

The girls continued their assault, long black spikes of Black Blood striking against Nanami's, making the majority of her shots miss their target. And while the remaining 10 percent found their targets and hit dead-on, that advantage was quickly negated by the fact that the girls just kept appearing out of the mist.

And there was Lavan. Water evaporated by just touching him, turning into nothing, burning away even the steam created by the sudden heating of water. Ice melted, water vanished, and he bulled through every defensive measure, forcing Nanami to constantly adapt her defenses to supplement dodging Lavan's attacks, which were MUCH easier to dodge. He wasn't tricky anymore, but with that black flame surrounding his body, he was becoming quite a menace.

And as Nanami dodged another hit and Lavan sped by her with another missed rush, she noticed that Lavan's face was splotched in black, the skin no longer its own tanned color...

-------------

Within Lavan's Mind

Lavan heard. He heard every word spoken, every desperate call Nanami made to try and snap him out of it. And he fought. Oh, he fought like a demon...

But he was growing weaker.

Within his mind, it was a tiny area in front of a warped and twisted cage of Suzaku, the giant bird using its own power no longer to help Lavan, but to keep the cage intact and protect itself from being invaded by the black tendrils of the mental representation of Black Blood, which writhed like a great, tentacled monster outside of the cage, encompassing all other points in Lavan's mind. The only place left was the entrance of the cage, in front of which Lavan hung suspended in the air, impaled on hundreds of Black Blood tendrils.

And he fought. Flame sheared through tendril after tendril, but more and more were sliding through his defenses, impaling him over and over and over as he fought with whatever power he had available.

And that wasn't much. His power core was controlled by Black Blood. His body was controlled by Black Blood. His very consciousness was under the control of Black Blood. The only thing remaining was the subconscious mind, closely linked to Suzaku, which followed only the most basic, and instinctual of commands: To fight.

And fight it did, attacking the tendrils that threatened to usurp it, tendrils that found their way past his defense, tendrils that were ripping even his subconscious mind apart, piece by piece.

And the Black Blood sensed its victory, SMELLED it, and writhed ever more actively, ever more lively as it sensed its victory just out of reach.

Inside the cage, the great bird guardian watched with forced detachment as its host was swallowed whole by the Black Blood, clinically judging the point of no return, figuring that without help, Lavan would not last more than another five minutes at most.

And then...

The great bird almost growled to itself, shaking off those thoughts. There was still time. The Blue Dragon was around, and had a skilled and powerful host. There was still time for her to figure out a way to stop this...

-----------

[Ras VS Lily and Samuel]

It was Lily that made the breakthrough. Angelic power seemed to be the perfect antithesis to whatever this Black Blood stuff was, fueled mostly by positive aspect and with the intent to bind, not harm... It stopped ras in his tracks. The boy's body stiffened as the Black Blood began to viciously fight against the binds... And burning away in tiny wisps of black smoke, dissipating instead of re-coagulating elsewhere like the majority of Black Blood seemed to do.

Within seconds, the black, writhing mass trapped within Lily's angelically-powered binds began to lessen...

But the Black Blood all around the girl reacted viciously to her bind. The mist itself came alive at the presence of an angel, and it wasn't just little needles of blood that formed around her. Enormous spikes, each as long and thick as a lance, formed around Lily on all sides, and tried to impale her in a blur of vicious, murderous motion and intent...

-----------

[Galv VS Girl Dolls]

The Blood Needles repelled, the girl simply stood opposite of Galv, backed up by three more copies of herself, all identical, all giggling uncontrollably as though this was just some sort of a huge game for her. They all looked like little girls at heavy play with dolls and toys, not as if they were in the middle of lethal combat, trying to kill people.

The one that mostly stayed out of the fight with Galv stopped her giggling to answer the boy for just a second, getting herself ready for another rush in the meantime.

"Heehee! I would LOVE to play with you for real, jolty, but... The REAL me is currently playing inside of Kubo with Master Asmer! So many of us are playing there, there is so much blood, death, and so, so MANY dolls! I wonder if that little girl you like, Melanie, is amongst the corpses yet! Ooooh, she would make a most WONDERFUL doll to play with!"

Again, the other three girls charged ahead. But this time their entire attacking arms were formed into Black Blood spikes the size of a knight's lance. Heavier, thicker, stronger, more durable... And could possibly withstand enough of Galv's lightning aura to do damage before they were destroyed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kubo Academy
[Academy Grounds]
Cess VS Asmer

Within this demented game of ping-pong using Cess's own Sacred Energy, Asmer hid a little trick. And once the ball was bounced back at Asmer, the trick was revealed: A pitch-black ball of power that collided with Cess's sword-pierced energy blast, "spiraling" the energy around itself and forcing the part of the area-attack that had been aimed at Asmer to simply pass him harmlessly. The monstrous man seemed quite pleased as he moved the black ball right through the blast, and it ruptured right in front of Cess's sword.

It was like a hundred giant swords impacted with that blade at once. The ball of energy was a nasty little thing, the idea and concept of "slashing" repeated hundreds of times, and then forced into a single point of time and space, compressed into a tiny ball of holding energy. Upon rupture of the shell, the hundreds of slashes compressed inside erupted, clashing against Cess's sword like a hundred angry titans.

Then, Asmer raised his other hand, holding a similar ball, and followed up by rushing right after Cess, raising the ball and shoving it towards the boy, trying to get it to pass his defenses and touch the skin, where the ball would rupture...

And if it hit him...

-----------------

Walter and Hiko VS Asmer's Soldiers

Walter's attempt to surround the creature with a bubble of water was almost a complete success. While water didn't respond as well within a certain area around the creature, it did respond nonetheless. And when it was surrounded by the bubble, it was suspended as it tried to fight its way out of the liquid...

And that gave Hiko enough reprieve to re-focus, center himself, and then with another flash of movement that was quick enough to not even leave behind a blur, he was on the other side of the creature within the water bubble, re-sheathing his blade as the bubble tinged black and split down the middle, the soldier sheared in half just like the last one.

Hiko took a deep breath, turned... And suddenly jumped in miid-turn as the ground beneath him erupted in slashes and a THIRD soldier jumped out of the ground, aiming right for the swordsman. With a flash, Hiko's Blade was out and defending furiously against a hundred slashes coming at him from all angles, but he couldn't keep up, and with several rather telling spurts of blood, the swordsman boy was tossed aside like a rag doll by the soldier of Asmer, tumbling across the ground and remaining still after stopping.

The soldier took a deep, hissing breath, almost like a half-laugh... And launched itself in that same erratic attack pattern at Walter, aiming to end this fight in its own favor, cutting across the air as it ran, the cut replicating in the air right in front of Walter despite the distance of the soldier, trying to shear through the water user from a distance.

---------------

[Inside the Academy]

As Rumi summoned the drawn boxer, it happened just in time as she was beset one of those terrifying monstrosities that were Asmer's Soldiers. Long limbs wrapped in spikes that pierced through the skin from the inside, faces wrapped in black wrap that looked like they were constantly bleeding, the wraps bearing a glowing red set of three eye marks, the mark of Asura. This thing spun through the air like an acrobat, coming through the nearest window, scuttled across the floor, slid along the wall, ran along the ceiling for a few steps before spinning like a mad top and slamming into the drawing of the boxer in a flurry of slashes and cuts.

And a set of those slashes instead appeared in the air in front of Rumi herself, drawing themselves across the air like a bright knife, hoping to shear her in half as well!

However, Paul's shield deflected the worst of the cut, flaring brightly as it WAS cut through, but the remainder of the attack just barely nicked Rumi's cheek.

It was one heck of a surprise attack.

------------------------------------------------------------

[Endsville Streets]

Spork had enough, and expelled a ridiculous amount of power in a burst-type attack that covered every angle around him, pushing outward like a bomb blast. In response, the two remaining creatures wound together like a pair of rubber bands wrapping into a ball, curled up...

And were blasted summarily through the nearest building. The first soldier evaporated like so sugar in hot water, but the other one survived. Scorched and missing a limb, but it survived, and it dove into the nearest pocked of Black Blood Fog, regenerating itself, and then dashing right back out of the building as the dust settled, coming right at Spork like a lethal, slashing missile.

It was kind of frightening how resilient these things really were. Taking so much magic attacks, so many physical blows from a keyblade and then that blast, and STILL alive enough to regenerate and come back to attack. This was why the First Reaper Squadron failed and were summarily slaughtered like pigs.

... And too much time was passing... Spork was being delayed too long...

------------------------------------------------------

[Tree]

With the arrival of Xehanort, the little girl's grin just enlarged.

"Old people are SO much fun to play with! They're so... Brittle though. They snap like little twigs in my fingers, they don't last long. And they don't scream nearly as loud as kids. But it's so much FUN to see them die with despair in their eyes! It becomes the BEST sort of game!"

A full eight copies of the little girl stepped out of the Black Blood Fog, thinning it enough to be able to see through it, and the pairs of girls all merged together, forming four Asmer Soldiers, each contorting and twisting around one another as the last of the girls calmly and tenderly ran her hand along one's cheek.

"And these soldiers will be your playmates! KILL THEM. And leave the old man to die of grievous wounds. I want to see DESPAIR!"

And the four Asmer soldiers rushed right for Xehanort, recognizing him as the largest threat in the area, slashing away at the air, causing cuts to appear all around Xehanort, trying to rip the old man apart...

Nanami VS Lavan and the Dolls

As Nanami kept up her pattern of furious assault and breakneck dodging, she knew she was running out of time. If she fought purely defensively, she could keep this up for a while still… but with each passing second, she knew the chance of Lavan’s mind being truly lost increased. It was a race against time, not necessarily for her life (although possibly), but more important for Lavan’s soul.

“You can’t win this way.”

The wise, cold voice of Seiryuu filled Nanami’s mind. She was in no mood for the Blue Dragon’s words right now. The beast was still on Nanami’s list of annoyances after the previous encounter with Giovanni and that mysterious Takuma.

“There is a possibility; a way to cleanse him of the black blood. Though it will be a risk, and one I’d rather we not take… but as per our agreement, you are the boss now.”

“Spit it out.” Nanami growled as she narrowly dodged a tendril of black blood.

“Featherbrain, for all his foolishness, will not be corrupted easily. I can attempt to link my mind with the bird. Combine our powers, as it were. With the combined strength of two Guardian Beasts, we should easily overpower the Black Blood and free Lavan’s mind… but if it were to fail… you would fall under the same corruption, and if TWO of the Guardians are lost to Madness… worse things than Asura shall come.”

Nanami frowned. It wasn’t just risking her safety… it was risking Makai’s. If two Guardians were captured and the seal that protected Makai was broken as a result… She closed her eyes.

The cold logical thing to do was to sacrifice Lavan for the good of Makai. The seal could survive with one Guardian lost, but not two. If she tried to save Lavan and failed, entire realms could burn.

… but could she sacrifice Lavan?

“Get ready, Dragon.” Nanami commanded. There was a suddenly shimmer around her once more as Seiryuu poured his energy into Nanami – and she suddenly went rushing forward towards Lavan and thrust her hand out at him – the moment it touched, there was a blinding flash of light…

[Within Lavan’s Mind]

Suddenly, just in front of where Lavan struggled with the tendrils and the cage hang alone, white light began to burn in the air and form the outline of a rectangle. It was a doorway – one that suddenly opened.

The massive serpentine form of Seiryuu came bursting through the doorway with a thunderous roar. It was not the false human form used to communicate with Nanami within her own mind – but the full and true Blue Dragon that invaded the realm of Lavan’s mind.

It flew it, quickly moving towards the cage.

“Suzaku! Hear me, O’ great featherbrain! You cannot fall to Asura’s madness! Even YOU aren’t that pathetic! Now join with me and let us purify your host and be done with this insanity!”

Inside Lavan's Mindscape (It's in your braaaaain)

The appearance of Seiryu itself definitely changed things. As Seiryu appeared, just its aura within the mindscape was enough to flash-freeze a good number of the Black Blood tentacles that covered the entirety of Lavan's mindscape.

However, the vista was absolutely horrifying. Suzaku's cage was mostly covered in black liquid, the bars of the cage much thinner than they should have been, and in some places gone entirely. Suzaku's aura was destroying every bit of Black Blood that came near, but the tendrils were endless, and were getting closer and closer every second.

The more problematic thing was what remained of Lavan's existence within his own mind. When Seiryu entered, it chased away the majority of attackers, revealing that Lavan's conscious existence was whittled down to barely anything. The representation of this was the boy's completely broken body, hung up within the black tendrils like some sort of impaled martyr, large chunks missing from it, the entire form wavering like a fading image. Still, there was some flame left about it, and that flame fought, and fought with such viciousness that it managed to burn away the rest of the invading black tendrils, causing Lavan's mental image to drop to the base of the cage, motionless but saved for the moment.

And while Suzaku was relieved that the dragon showed up, it couldn't help but be annoyed.

"Bah. I'd rather not have seen your scaly, emaciated ass within the boy's head, but I seem to have little choice at the moment. You sure took your sweet time, I've been fighting the Black Blood within the boy with all I could, but it's that damnable fog outside. It acts like an amplifier, and the more the boy breathed in that fog, the stronger the Black Blood fought against me until I could no longer protect him. I was FORCED back into this cage. Do NOT underestimate the strength of the blood within this mind, dragon. It fought me, it can fight YOU as well."

And at that very moment, the Black Blood rose up from its tentacled mass, forming some sort of massive, monstrous beast with three eyes, so large that it eclipsed Seiryu and Suzaku both. Like comparing the Titan of Olympus to a peacock and a desert lizard, the enormous form towered over both of the spirits within the endless vista of Lavan's extinguished mind, glowering down upon them with a terrifying maliciousness that defined Asmer so closely.

"... Gods be damned..."

Even the magnificent spirit of fire and rebirth balked as it saw the enormous creature of Black Blood.

And in his closest of emotions, Suzaku felt pride. Pride that for however long it was, Lavan managed to fight such a beast from taking him over completely. Sure, it might have worn out his host to almost nothing... But now, the tide could be turned.

[Inside Lavan’s Mindscape]

“And you think I want to be in here? Hah! Hardly. Just being this close to you makes my scales crawl, but right now we have bigger things to worry about. Loathe as I am to say it, losing you to corruption would be problematic. The seal requires FOUR Guardians, so I’ll not be letting you fall to this foe.”

Nanami emerged through the doorway and gasped at the sight in front of her. The enormous creature of Black Blood was a terrifying sight, and she wondered if even Seiryu and Suzaku’s combined might could quash such a foe. For a moment, Nanami’s heart was gripped in the clutches of fear.

… but only for a moment. Her crimson eyes fell on Lavan’s weak form and she remembered why she was here, risking so much. It brought a calmness to her and she sprinted across the mindscape and dropped down to Lavan’s side, clutching his mental image against her.

“It’s okay.” Nanami whispered. “We’re going to get through this…”

“Listen to me, Suzaku. We can still win this battle. You’re your Cleansing Flame and my Purifying Water we can destroy this corruption, but ONLY if we work together. If we combine our strength we can weaken it enough to break its hold on your host – and our hosts can destroy this thing.”

[Inside Lavan’s Mindscape]

In a mindscape, everything is a representation. These representations of things can be infinite: Speed can be represented as much by a rabbit, as it could by a jet thruster. The power of things could be represented similarly through many ways: size, brightness, intensity, shape, even smell. Everything in a mental map is malleable, and the Spirits used such mental communication, building a "representation" of something a normal mortal mind could understand to ease their understanding.

It was why the Black Blood took the shape of such an enormous Titan, and why Suzaku and Seiryu were so bright to look at...

And it was also why Nanami was currently holding what was pretty much a torso and a head with what remained of the left leg. Lavan's mental body was full of holes. It didn't bleed, but chunks of the body were missing, torn away beforehand by his mental tug-of-war with the Black Blood. The body itself was blank-eyed, and only a tiny little flame burned brightly at the tip of what remained of his hair.

Had he had the ability to bleed here, this would have been a much more gruesome spectacle. Even now, it was disconcerting: Lavan, usually so full of life, torn apart and with the eyes of someone who had already died. It wasn't breathing or moving at all, and the only thing that even showed that he was still remotely alive was that tiny flame, bright, but small.

While Nanami cradled what remained of the half-Efreei spirit, Suzaku flapped its wings and the cage burst open, dissipating in a torrent of flame that immediately changed to a wave of fire, a blinding white wave that collapsed over the Titan like a tsunami, burning what it saw. The Black Blood construct just brushed it away, as though it was an insignificant speck. Here in the mindscape, the one who had the most control also helf the most cards. And with Lavan in such a state, almost all of it was controlled by the Black Blood. Brushing attacks off, no matter the size, was within its capability.

And so was counter-assault, as the Titan attempted to simply step on Seiryu, trying to just brutally crush its own presence, while Suzaku was forced to dodge to the side as the ground underneath it, now uncovered by the cage, erupted in long ropes of Black Blood, trying to grapple the bird, pin it in place, make it vulnerable to attack...

[Inside Lavan’s Mindscape]

“Lavan,” Nanami spoke quietly as she looked down at the remains of the redhead’s spirit. It was quite terrifying to see him in this state. Large portions of his body were missing, gone to the blackness – and he looked completely blank and lifeless.

“It’s going to be okay.” Nanami said as she held him, watching his expressionless eyes. “This is your mind. You’re the one in control here. I need you to wake up, Lavan. I’m here, and I’m going to protect you, but I need you to help me, okay?”

She tried to remain calm, but the truth was Nanami was shaken. She never imagined Lavan could be in this state, so seeing it was almost too much to process. She forced herself to stay collected.

“You need to wake up right now. Please.”

While Nanami attempted to coax Lavan’s mind back into activity, Seiryu was flying with all of her strength to evade the massive leg of the Black Blood Titan. She managed to fly around, evading being crushed and winding her way up the length of the monster’s leg – all the while spitting a turret of purifying waters in an attempt to weaken the creature.

[Inside Lavan’s Mindscape]

None of Nanami's coaxing was having any effect, at least it seemed that way. That as until Seiryu managed to cover the Black Blood Titan with water, and it began to hiss, as if covered by acid. The totan roared in agony, lashing out against the dragon, but its arm dove right into a tower of white fire that pummeled from whatever passed for a sky within this pitch-black place, enveloping the creature's entire arm in white flame that ate away at it in a manner much similar to how the Black Fire ate away at anything it touched on the outside.

And as the Titan roared in agony once more, numerous flames began to ignite within Lavan's hair. Not just a tiny little flame, but lots of tiny little flames, growing stronger as the Black Blood weakened.

With Seiryu and Suzaku here, both of them striking against the influence of Black Blood, the fight was turned decidedly in the favor of the good guys... But the Titan wasn't giving up. With a roar, it release a wave of pitch-black energy, a wave that knocked aside Seiryu and Suzaku, and the Titan reached down to try and grasp at Lavan's form, to reach the control point and finally snuff it out...

-Kubo Park-

Samuel and Lily vs Ras

Samuel cursed, turning and tackling Lily, who had been focused entirely on Ras, knocking her down, feeling the Black Blood slice against him, unable to pierce him as he tackled the girl away.

“Got to be aware of your surroundings!” Samuel yelled, getting up now and looking around. His power was fine for countering the Black Blood against himself, but he had no spells, nothing he could really do but punch, kick, etc. If this Angel got infected too...

Lily scowled, but nodded, realizing the truth of his words.

Galv vs The Girl Dolls

Raiju scowled inside of Galv. The only reason the boy was still standing was because of his potential. He could use tremendous amounts of energy, but he lacked the proper training to fully realize it, and Raiju was using up much of his energy to help power the boy and access his own power core...

“We can not beat this girl... We can't exactly run... but... Heh. I wonder if those two will even acknowledge my existence. Host! Conduit of electricity, of that which bonds all matter! There is something else we can do...”

The girls with the lance arms were coming closer now, Galv standing his ground, trying to figure out what to do...

“I am not a true Guardian... that belongs to the other Four... But I am like them, and if we can help the other two who are here... perhaps we will stand a chance...”

Galv paused. The image of Melanie was playing through his head. Seeing her... lifeless...dead...

“Focus, boy! Your bond with the girl is great, and that is my power!”

Galv clenched his fists, lightning erupting around him now, closing his eyes as the Black Blood lances pierced into him.

...Or rather into where he had been, his entire body sparking, rising up, twisting towards a point...

Inside Lavan's Mind

A howl ran through the mind, triumphant, and a wolf, sparking brightly shimmered by Seiryuu and Suzaku.

“Hah! Did I not tell you that I would return someday!” Raiju declared, his wolf mouth grinning as electricity sparked along his fur, “I thought perhaps you could use some help. I can't very well let the bonds be broken on my watch!”

-Kubo Academy-

Outside

Cess vs Asmer

Had the sword been anything then what it was, Asmer's attack would have decimated it, and left Cess open for the attack.

But what it was was the sword of Death himself, given to the strange warrior who had fought with Death twice, and was still standing to tell the tale.

A sword given to a soul reborn many times, enough that the Sacred Energy of Life had become a permanent addition to his soul.

A sword capable of, in the right hands, cutting the bonds of life itself.

While Cess was incapable of doing that, only Lord Death himself being able to access it's true power, he could still make it very, very sharp...

So as Asmer's attack impacted the sword, the sword simply slice through it, cutting through the very energy, the concept, going as sharp as it could as it went through the attack.

“NOT... HAPPENING!” Cess yelled, Sacred Energy flaring up even greater as he simply kept going, slashing through the attack and continuing point blank at Asmer, trying to use his speed and sword to stab into Asmer, counting on moving fast and his own Sacred Energy, just in case, to counter the second attack...

Walter and Hiko vs Asmer's Soldiers

Walter remained calm, as he always did, when the third soldier came at him, slashing the air.

Walls of water sprouted up, slowing the slashes enough for Walter to dodge them idly, using the minimum amount of room he needed to maneuver to dodge the attacks.

Then the air grew cold around the soldier and Walter, except for a single point in front of the blond haired Oni, who was focusing all the heat from the water in the air to a single point...

Inside the Academy

Paul's eyes widened as the creature appeared, jumping forward and focusing.

Neither he nor Rumi were exactly front line fighters, but Paul did not a few things...

>>>Force >>> Momentum >>> Strong >>> Blast

Words that were not words glowed in a span of time to brief to measure, sending a powerful blast of energy forward, intending to knock back the creature!

Edda dashed through the halls, looking around, Sol out, fire blazing from the blade already...

“Are you sure about this Sol?” Edda asked the sword, pausing as Sol gave his answer.

“Okay then... let's hope you're right...” Edda sighed, then continued moving through the halls...

-Endsville Streets-

Spork glared at the creature, his Keyblades rising up and blocking the attack, the magical blades counter attacking.

“Fine... We'll fight on the run!” Spork said, he closed his eyes, chanting a spell as he lifted a little into the air, then shot down the street, his Keyblades flying around him as he charged for Kubo Academy!

-Tree-

“I... I don't know...” Aboy said, “I'm not... all of this...”

Aboy shook slightly. “Black Blood is... it's... We're not strong enough to fight this... not... not directly...”

Aboy frowned, “...Kubo. The Library. We'll head there. I might not be strong enough, but I'm smart enough. Maybe we can find something there.”

The cuts slashed through Xehanort... revealing ice as the frozen water crumbled to pieces around them.

“Please, you think I'd be that easy?” Xehanort laughed from somewhere, “You have no idea what it means to inflict despair, what it means to really kill, to really see the look of horror in people's eyes...”

The air suddenly began to grow very cold, the temperature dropping rapidly.

“Were you actually here, I might have granted you the right to see the ultimate attack of a Keyblade Master before I killed you, but that's not worth your trash...”

The soldiers would start to slow, freezing as the temperature in the immediate area began to plummet...

"No I don't think you're being sincere," Shiori replied almost instantly.

Having been Musashi's friend, for a number of years, Shiori had grown to know Musashi pretty well, and known that Haruka was generally always annoying, whenever she actually was around. Those together would be enough to leave her skeptical over Haruka's intentions... but Shiori is also naturally cautious with people, anyways.

She was probably not going to believe much of anything Haruka was going to say, unless she had decent proof of any of it.

Inside Kubo Academy

"Oh come on! Don't just kill it right when it appears!" Rumi complained while jumping back herself, as her summon was cut into pieces near instantly. "That's no fair!"

She then wiped at the scratch caused by the second creature, looking at the little bit of blood now on her fingers, and then licked at the blood. With a very short pause to contemplate, she then returned to her drawing, using her finger to write "x2" next to her drawing, with her blood.

Instantly, then, two more Little Mac's were summoned. However, these two seemed to glow slightly, and followed up Paul's attack with lunging punches towards the creature! These Little Macs were not going to be one-hit-KOed.

Meanwhile, Rumi stayed back herself, now furiously drawing up something else.

[Inside Lavan’s Mindscape]

Nanami felt hope spring up inside her when she saw the flame begin to ignite. It was working. If she could keep this up, if she could just wake him up, then they could fight back against this and get rid of the corruptive influence once and for all.

There was still an attack on Kubo. Still countless other students who could be in the same position as Lavan – or worse. Nanami needed to do whatever she could to expedite the process – she would need Lavan’s help if there was any chance of them repelling the attack.

But then a shadow was cast over her as the Titan came close and reached out for Lavan. Nanami turned, looking up at the enormous beast and focusing. This was Lavan’s mindscape, but she had projected herself here. She had to use all the limit influence she could – to project a sphere around her to protect herself and Lavan; but she had no idea how long she could repel something like this…

“Lavan, you’re doing well, but you have to keep going!” Nanami called down to him. “You’re the only one who can win this fight. I’ll protect you as long as I can but you have to keep going!”

[Inside Kubo Academy]

“… Damn it. Not now… not here…”

In the tower where Connor’s parents were hiding out, Cosmo peered through an orb that showed the rest of the school. It was a security feature given to him by Shinigami so he could keep an eye on the place, given they were in constant danger of being discovered.

“What’s going on out there?” Connor asked in a worried tone. He knew that Rumi and the rest of his friends were out there. He also didn’t know if he, his parents and Sarai would be safe here.

“The school is under attack. You and Sarai stay here with your mother.” Cosmo said, as he grabbed his trench coat and walked towards the door.

“W-Wait! I can help…” Connor said as he started to follow the father he barely knew.

“No. Stay here.” Cosmo replied immediately and he disappeared through the door.

[Carnival]

Haruka paused for a moment, watching Shiori. Her eyes narrowed a bit and from the corner of her mouth there was the faintest of frowns. She strummed her chin for a moment, and then let out a loud laugh.

“Alright, alright, you caught me. I’m never sincere. This isn’t really about my brother… it’s about me.” Haruka admitted, lowering her voice a bit. “The monarchy might be a thing of the past, but people are still going to expect one of our father’s children to follow in his footsteps and become some big time leader in society.”

She shook her head. “… So I need to look out for my brother, to make sure he’s not a complete idiot, and to make sure he doesn’t make the same bad choices our father did. Because if he screws up, then I have to be the responsible one.”
