Lavan loved his swords. A simple handle to focus the flame and energy to such a degree that it created both a heat and repulsing field, mimicking a solid object by simply focusing flames hard enough. IT was a weapon that could be intensified to block some of the harshest blows from the largest of weapons, or tuned down so it would pass through any sort of defense or armor, just like the element of fire itself. Two of these were Lavan's signature weapons, and his style used both one and two blades interchangeably with equal mastery.

For this fight, he decided to intensify the fire of the blade, making it replicate a solid and superheated object, cutting into the bug-like creature like a blade from a meat grinder. The heat from the edge of the blade instantly melted down armor and flesh underneath, allowing Lavan's slashes to pass right through the creature, allowing him to keep a large fraction of his momentum.

And then, he got incredibly lucky. The blade bit into the creature's abdomen and stopped there, allowing Lavan just enough time to open his eyes wide as te bug swelled and detonated, allowing him the sight and reaction time of that tiny fraction of a second.

It was enough to shift himself into a burst of flame and appear fifteen feet below where he used to be, looking wild-eyed and somewhat singed, the edge of his vest sizzling with acid. He dropped a little more, his free hand hoing to his ear to turn the earpiece on again.

"... Nanami, if you ever encounter big bug-like things, don't attack the abdomen. They explode. With acid. And it's eating right through my fireproof-coated clothing. Yeah. Also! Bogies as in bugs. Big, bigger-than-us-sized bugs that sense spiritual power, have none of their own that I can detect, spit acid and... Explode in said acid. Fun stuff! Great for messing with parties!"

The second blade finally flashed into Lavan's other hand, also flaring with fire as he lowered the intensity of the heat in the first blade, turning them from white-hot-flames to simple, happy yellow-and-red flames, ones that would leave scorch marks, not slash marks.

"Now, let's see how many of you I can blow up!"

And he rushed right back into the fight, diving and ducking, weaving and scissoring, his blades always in motion to slash at one thing or another.

"I'm OK" Solei and Avril each answered in succession Nanami, after the energy wave hit.

Solei was completely OK, though the snakes she had summoned were blown away by the energy wave. She soon summoned more, though, as she approached where Avril was

Avril herself was probably the closest, but was lucky due to her telekinetic abilities, using them to try and hold her in place, as well as push back against it. She kept her focus up, however, in front of her, as a sort of telekinetic 'shield' between herself and the trailer while the others caught up to her.

"That sounds great!" Damion responded to Aboy, "Though hopefully it doesn't get cold there..."

Though it was getting to be closer to fall, in Makai, the current day at least was still fairly warm... except Damion still hadn't seen the weather report.

But if Aboy had wanted him to go swimming in the middle of winter, Damion probably would still go along, and try not to complain too much about it, himself.

Lily was quiet, frowning a little as Ras told her about the Sea of Chaos, and what had transpired with some kind of representative of it.

And the fact he'd lose something important to him...

“How do you know you can trust this... Zelas? Maybe they're lying, or they're the cause of the imbalance,” Lily asked, “I'm not saying you should go to anyone and ask about it, and I won't, I promised you that, but can you trust him? You don't need to tell me why, just if you can.”

Lily sighed a little, “And...What did you have to lose that's important? Or has it not happened yet...?”

-Kubo Cafeteria-

“It's still warm, besides, I don't like going to the beach during the middle of summer,” Aboy said, “Around now is about perfect.”

She pointed to her hair, “I'm a red head, the sun doesn't always like us.”

Which Damion should know because he should also have red hair.

“We'll pick up some sun block and all that too at the mall,” Aboy added, getting up and now and tugging at Damion's arm, “Come on, let's go! It'll be a lot of fun!”

Ras let out a dry, almost humorless chuckle.

"I thought so too, Lily. I thought it was all a hoax, perhaps a fool's errand, but... There is no other way I can describe the changing of my aura. There is no other way I can define the fact that I can do things that I previously thought impossible, create things that should not be. The chaos that seethes within the back of my mind, thoughts not my own and my own and..."

He let the ball float there.

"... No other way I can describe THIS."

And with a vicious motion, Ras smashed his hand into the orb, splitting it in half... And revealing... Something. The orb broke in half, releasing energy that was... An infinitely black void, one that was black and all the other colors simultaneously, one that was full of nothing, yet full of everything as the image shifted so fast it made the eyes spin. It was small, yet humongous, riveting in its existence and impossible to comprehend. Ras himself watched it, but for Lily...

There was no doubt that she needed utmost mental discipline to not go insane from the sight. Like the viewing of an Eldritch horror from beyond, this was an impossibility that defied all laws and rules.

It was chaos.

"As for what I exchanged for this? That was defined to me from the very beginning. I lost my freedom."

As he spoke he dispersed the power escaping from the black orb, drawing it into himself as he did, causing ripples of colors and patterns to appear where the little wisps of energy were drawn into his body, only to settle seconds later into what Ras should look like at all times.

"My soul belongs to the Sea of Chaos until my purpose is complete. What that purpose is... I do not know. All I know is that fixing whatever imbalance exists... Is only a part of what I must do."

Lily shook as she stared at the Orb as Ras dispersed it, green eyes wide. She had seen strange things before, powerful ancient magics that her adoptive grandmother had used... But this was...something else.

When it finally stopped, Lily looked towards Ras. His freedom...He had to do something, for someone... Not against his will, it was an agreement... But...

She listened to Gallic, her adoptive father. She reported to him, did what he asked. She wasn't really free to make her own choices either.

Blinking away a few tears, Lily suddenly moved towards Ras, floating some to keep herself steady as she kissed him hard, before pulling back, staring up into his eyes.

“Ras...I...” Lily said. She couldn't quite explain what she was feeling. A sort of odd kinship with the devilkin, but she couldn't really tell him that, not without revealing what her father's intentions were.

“Ras, if that Sea wants your soul, they're going to have to get in line,” Lily finally said, “I saw you first, I don't care what some avatar of Chaos says, if they try something I'll kick their butt myself.”

[Dark Forest/Coal Mine]

Nanami heard the report from Lavan over her earpiece, just as she arrived at the trailer and spotted Avril. She quickly rushed over and gave Avril the once-over to make sure she was alright, before turning her sights to the trailer.

It looked old. The paint had faded, the door was slightly ajar and there was a wasp’s nest tucked in the corner below the roof. It didn’t strike her as the type of place an evil spirit would hide out in, but then none of this seemed to be going according to norm.

“I’m going in.” Nanami said to Avril. “Stay outside and keep an eye out for those bugs Lavan described. I’ll keep you apprised of what I find.”

Without waiting for a response, Nanami headed towards the door. The knob was still hot to the touch from Lavan’s heat wave, but Nanami didn’t let the slight burn bother her as she wretched open the door and stepped inside.

The trailer was small, and cramped. There was a single desk at the far end of the room, and a couple of uncomfortable chairs next to it. There was a black filing cabinet with a potted plant sitting on top. On the desk was a computer, a jar filled with pencils, some random papers… and the oddest creature Nanami had ever seen.

It was a human-sized creature with thick green skin and several large horns protruding from its head and back. It sat on the desk with a devilish grin on its face, as its round red eyes trained on Nanami and it grinned like a fiend.

“Well, well, well… a Shi-ni-ga-mi… how fascinating! I was wondering what was taking you lot so long to find this place.” The creature said to Nanami in a voice that oozed with amusement.

Nanami did not flinch as she looked the strange creature in the eye. “And just who… or what… are you?”

“Ooooh, you want to know who I am… but I am no one of any importance! A mere servant! A humble and long suffering servant, I might add! I have been loyal, and I have worked hard… oh yes, I have worked hard… it’s not easy to enslave so many human souls without being noticed by nasty, nasty Shi-ni-ga-mi…”

The creature was rambling and ranting to itself, and rubbing its scaly green hands together. It licked at its pearly white teeth, and then looked up at Nanami.

“… Right. I have no idea who or what you are, but you just admitted to enslaving human souls. So I suggest you start making some sense and tell me about this ‘Master’ of yours, and maybe you’ll live.” Nanami threatened.

“Hoh hoh hoh… the Shi-ni-ga-mi believes it can take my soul! Such a funny creature, this one is… not very bright, no she’s not… and so ugly! Not a single horn on her head! Yuck, I wonders how Shi-Ni-Ga-Mi can stand to mate…” The imp rambled to itself, while shaking its head and dribbling a bit.

Nanami just shuddered. “Y-You don’t need to think about my mating! Now shut up and tell me about your Master!”

The creature tilted its head. “How can I tell you of Master if I shut up? You make no sense, funny Shi-ni-ga-mi!”

Nanami’s eye twitched and she felt a headache. For once, it was not Lavan’s fault. A small wisp of ice began to appear in the palm of her hand as she intended on attacking the imp, but suddenly it held up its hand and sent a powerful blast of energy into Nanami’s chest!

Nanami was thrown backwards, right through the wall of the trailer and she slammed into the ground. The imp creature came rushing forward, peering out the hole in the wall.

“Nasty, nasty, Shi-ni-ga-mi! Kill it! Kill it with fire for the Master!”

In the air, Lavan still had his hands full with a swarm of giant, unusual insects that could spit acid and would explode whenever they abdomens were destroyed. The creatures did not seem happy to see that one of their own had been killed by Lavan.

The buzzed their wings faster and screeched in angry hisses. Two of them came flying at Lavan from below, clicking their jaws together and slashing out with their massive limbs, which seemed to be as hard as steel and as sharp as blades! Two more cam flying in from behind him, spitting globs of acids!

Avril quickly ran over to Nanami, when she heard the crashing from Nanami being thrown out of the trailer. Her attention turned to the hole in the trailer, once she made it to Nanami.

"Are you OK, Nanami?" she then asked, while trying to get in between this creepy green guy and Nanami.

Solei also made her way over, but stood farther in the background, silently. The snakes she had summoned, however, started slithering up closer.

Musashi's Room

Shiori nodded slowly to Musashi's initial response to her question. Though once he added the bit about getting undressed right now, he soon found an empty old pizza box thrown at his face.

"I'll get ready, then. Just call when you are ready and want me to go somewhere," she then added, following Musashi to the door.

“I’m fine. Stay on your toes, Avril, that thing is powerful.” Nanami said, clutching her ribs as she scrambled back to her feet. The small creature was a lot more powerful than it looked.

The creature rushed forward, looking from Nanami to Avril and tilting its head. It rapidly blinks its eyes and growled a bit.

“More Shi-ni-ga-mi… all so nasty… threatening Master’s plans… unacceptable! Unacceptable! Burn them! Burn them all!” The creature roared.

It held its hands up, and great flames erupted around them and it tossed the flames at Nanami and Avril!

[Musashi’s Room]

Musashi could only laugh as he was struck by a pizza box. He rushed over to Shiori’s side and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

“I’ll be back in a flash! Assuming everything is agreed to… but I don’t anticipate a problem. Seeeya!”

He turned and rushed off.

For Avril and her telekinetic abilities, elemental stuff like fire or electricity were things that were much more difficult for her to try and use her telekinetic shielding abilities against. They didn't have much of a physical "impact" to try and counter, which meant to protect herself, it'd take a lot more concentration and power, let alone herself and Nanami.

However, she didn't have to worry about that very much, because instead, as the flames were tossed at Nanami and Avril, two blocks of stone formed out of the ground in a wedge-pattern in front of them, courtesy of Solei.

And then as soon as the fire attack dissipated, Solei's summoned snakes then made their strike, launching at the green creature fangs-first.

Musashi's Room

Shiori blushed slightly, from Musashi's kiss, but then just as quickly, Musashi was off, saying he'd return soon. She wasn't sure if he wanted her to go now to get ready for whatever his secret plan was, or to just wait for him to return, so she decided just to wait in his room for him to return.

As she waited, she also decided to try and straighten out a little of the chaos in his room, as well, just to be a little productive and thoughtful. It was fairly dangerous just to stand in that room, since even someone else just slamming a door could probably send a tower of sharp metal flying at you from all directions...

Ok. So these bugs weren't average by far, and instead bristled with enough weapons to make the Rambo Crab jealous. Chitinous plate as hard as steel, razor-sharp blades on the chitinous legs, and acid spit. And an internal organism to detonate the acid sack upon the death of the creature, assuring that the opponent would be damaged as well. All this in a flying package.

And on top of that, there was more than a dozen of these things.

"Bang! Whoo! And another one gone, and another one gone... Another one bites the DUST!"

The enemy of these bugs, however, turned out to have a pretty awesome weapon against these things. While the flame blades didn't actually cause any damage to the carapaces anymore and Lavan wasn't wasting energy to keep them sun-hot to melt through the carapace, they had enough heat to cause major burns to anything just under the layer of the chitinous armor. This, combined with the fact that he kept flying about and bursting his wings left and right like some makeshift rocket boosters, kept him just a step ahead of his opponents.

Lavan timed himself, waiting until the two that were coming from behind him spit, sensing the heat exit their bodies. Having started spilling energy into the territory around himself, he already had basic detection functions up, so it wasn't too hard for him to sense incoming projectiles... And incoming bugs from below. So, with a bit of timing, he boosted upwards, letting the globs of acid strike the two bugs that tried to come from below as he spun around and boosted forward, passing in between the two that spat the acid globs at him, blades lashing at their wings.

The weakness of any flying creature that did so naturally was the mechanism by which it flew. Bugs and birds could take maximum advantage of the air only because they had wings, but those same wings produced a glaring weakness: When damaged, they didn't work. And when wings stopped working far up in the air...

That caused massive problems for the flying creatures.

Lavan had a singular advantage: His wings were NOT natural. Aetheric wings made of flame were not subject to most physical attacks, and only strong power surges could disrupt them. Against bugs which had no spiritual presence or power, Lavan had nothing to fear when it came to having his flight ability damaged.

No, he had to watch out for the ACID!

Another glob passed by6 his head as he let one wing flop uselessly, spinning him around in mid-air before flaring the flames again and boosting straight upward after his somewhat awkward-looking aerial roll, getting out of the way of yet another bug.

"Man, if only I could blow them up, but noooo... I have to be STEALTHY."

Ras was momentarily shocked by Lily's boldness... But he really should have expected it. That girl was surprisingly touchy-feely, especially for an angel. Her kind always seemed much less personally inclined, much more haughty, beautiful and ethereal, untouchable in their grace. But Lily... Lily never was afraid or hesitant to give a hug, a kiss, a little poke. She invaded his personal space more often than some of the local pranksters, and that was saying something.

And she kissed awfully well too.

"It doesn't mean too much, Lily. No one is taking me away right now, because my job is here, on this world. I will stay here to do it... And you can help, if you want. And... Thank you. It means a lot to me that you care."

“More Shi-Ni-Ga-Mi?” The creature sniffed the air as Solei came running, saving her friends from being roasted alive by the massive fireballs. “So many Shi-Ni-Ga-Mi! Such terrible scents! Master would be displeased to see so many come…”

Then, the snakes came lunging at the Imp, and as they did the snakes transformed into metal spikes that smashed into the Imp’s body. The spikes embedded into the creature, causing it to scream out in pain. The Imp suddenly burst into flames, apparently trying to burn the spikes out of its body.

Nanami jumped up from behind the stone slab Solei had created and thrust her hand forward – sending a torrent of high-pressured water at the creature’s head. It slammed into the Imp, extinguishing the flames that were burning around its body.

“Auuuuugh! Nasty, nasty, Shi-Ni-Ga-Mi!” The Imp roared. “Nasty, nasty! Kill you, kill you die!”

It snapped its fingers and unleashed a massive explosion erupted, coming at the three Shinigami girls! However, it was still captured by Solei’s spikes/chains!

Lavan’s tactic of aiming for the wings was a good one. With even one of their wings damaged, the insect creatures could not stay in the air. Their bodies were too heavy, and with their wings in anything but top condition they would fall from the sky and end up crashing into the forest, or the ground near the mine.

… and of course, as soon as they crashed, they would explode – showering acid in every direction.

Soon enough, several of the trees in the forest were melting. Luckily, the acid didn’t seem to be starting any fires, so Lavan would not get blamed for breaking his promise and burning it down.

… not yet, anyway.

Then, three of the bugs came at Lavan from behind, roaring and trying to stab him in the back with their massive claws!

[Kubo Arena]

Musashi hurried out to the arena, looking around for the person he needed to speak to. He didn’t know if his idea would actually work out, but he had a feeling that it would be okay.

As he looked around, he finally spotted who he needed to talk to.

“Rumi!” Musashi called out as he ran up to her, grinning like an idiot. “Got a minute? I need a favor.”

He had to wonder, how did he always get himself into these situations?

The year started off so well, and then came the entire Medusa-turning-evil thing. That came pretty much out of nowhere and set Lavan up for one of the greatest mistakes and failures of his life, where he tried to do something against Asura... And it backfired. He ended up in the hospital, a girl was kidnapped, and he ended up having to do a make-up assignment by Shinigami-Sama.

Said make-up assignment had him land pretty much on Nanami's lap in the middle of a party, arm-less and bleeding. That wasn't fun.

And then came the retrieval of the girl from Asura's lackey, a mission that ALSO went to hell and ended him up in bed yet again. With as much problems as his previous encounters have caused, never had he felt such primal fear as when Asura was released and when he was running away from Asmer's goons. And in the end, he ended up getting hurt again and hurting others as well.

And now, he was fighting mutated bugs from Medius, bugs that could see spiritual entities, spat acid, blew up and generally announced that they were NOT NORMAL to the world.

... Lavan was absolutely determined to fix his bad mission track record.

Unfortunately, it wasn't so easy. If multiple human opponents were attacking him from behind like bugs were right now, he would probably fall back and get them to attack one another. But these things acted on instinct, and getting close would probably do more harm than good. So Lavan had to run, bursting away from them and heading towards one of the more isolated creatures, passing by it and lashing out with a blade across its wing, making a fast fly-by attack and hoping to get away from the pursuit...

The demonic insects were certainly not normal. They had all the properties of physical beings, and yet they could see and interact with spiritual beings. It was not entirely unheard of for something like this to exist, but it was rare.

They were also extremely aggressive. They attacked without hesitation, and without any sense of self preservation. They would lumber straight into Lavan’s sword if it meant a chance to swipe at him with their long claws. That, combined with the fact they would explode if their abdomens were ruptured, made it clear they were designed for kamikaze attacks.

That’s exactly what they were trying to do now. Lavan chopped another from the sky, and officially reduced the bugs down to about half of their original number. Yet the remaining swarm was behind Lavan, following on his heels, clicking their jaws and spitting globs of acid at him!

They showed no signs of slowing down, either. Luckily, Lavan was much faster than the creatures and which meant that if he concentrated on moving and dodging, they had a very hard time hitting him or getting close enough to explode on them.

It was a two way street, though. Whenever he slowed down to attack, the creatures would rush him, trying their best to cause some damage.

During the entire fight-and-flight, Lavan was generally flitting in between the bugs, making work of one or another, slowly whittling them down one by one. However, it was easier to do when there were fewer of them and they were less inclined to be cautious. Now that he had reduced their number by half, they remained just as suicidal... But like any creature with any intelligence, they were acting a little more cautiously.

And this made them more dangerous.

... And on top of it, Lavan was getting annoyed.

So, over the entire fight, Lavan had been slowly leading them upward, moving further and further above the ground until they were fighting at around the same height as his previous scouting altitude, from which he created the heat wave that sabotaged the machinery below. Now, finally reaching that height, Lavan decided to up the stakes a little... And poured more energy into the blades, but through a different "switch".

Not many knew, but his swords had multiple options. They could be intensified to increase heat and resistance, replicate normal blades with massive heat enhancement. They could also be increased in size as well, reaching double, triple, quadruple the size of a normal blade without any gain in weight or resistances. And... Lavan could also do BOTH.

And this was what he did. The flames from his blades intensified and enlarged until the swords themselves were bigger than he was, trailing flames after every swing, the heat coming from them warping the air. Then, Lavan turned around, snapped one arm in front of him and one behind him, turning the blades so they angled like giant fins around him... And spun on an axis set from the top of his head to his pelvis, creating a cone with its edge defined by a burning spiral.

And then, with a little added power, he shot right back into the pursuing bugs, spinning like crazy and trailing a flame almost fifteen feet long.

"WA-HOOOOOOOOO!!!"

Avril and Solei had no choice but to try and dodge the green creature's explosive attack.

Just as quickly as she dodged, however, Solei went to her earpiece.

"Do you guys want this creature captured alive for questioning, or eliminated?" she then asked, garnering a quick response from the blonde member of the team.

"From how it's acting, it doesn't seem too cooperative to me..." Avril answered, before trying to focus on lifting the creature up into the air with her telekinesis.

"Sure?" she responded, turning towards the calling-out Musashi, and waving a goodbye to Cess and Paul (and Edda? I can't remember XDX) before walking up to Musashi.

"What's up?"
