Central City

As Sama conjured up wind, the soldiers fired.

However, the wind was powerful enough to knock several of them off their feet, and the others' aim was severely distorted.

As Kimblee's unit moved, he noticed Hawkeye right alongside him.

He nodded to her.

"Good to have you with me, lieutenant." he said. "It was your shot that stopped this thing last time...even if you may not have finished the job."

With that, they received a call. (If alright), they pulled into the street near the abandoned tavern, and piled out. Kimblee smiled as he saw what was happening.

"I remember it so well..." he said. "...they're benders, alright..."

He looked over to Hawkeye.

"Cover me." he said.

Ironic, considering her task.

With that, he slapped his palms together, then slammed the ground...craters appeared in a line, out from him. Around Sama, Crystal, Galv, and Garret, explosions broke out. They were indiscriminate and poorly-aimed, as such, it was unlikely they were truly harmful, but they certainly weren't MEANT to be harmless, and certainly were attention-grabbers.

Kimblee's smile had grown already...he always hated it when his superiors told him to leave a job (read:extermination) unfinished, and he saw killing benders as picking up where he left off...

...he was unaware that neither Garret nor Galv nor KxS were benders.

Library

(XD)

The soldiers paused.

"Shining Eyes...oh." one said.

"Wait...when was he certified? We haven't received word. And you, in the armor, what gives?"

"Imitating Fullmetal's brother?" another asked.

Steiner blinked.

"U-um...yes..." he said.

"And alchemist? I'm sorry, could we see your pocketwatch? Standard procedure..."

It was a valiant attempt on Zidane and Vivi's parts, though...

Amestris town

Didymus nodded at Garnet's apologies, looking forward and scowling.

NOW she says that...on the other hand, we all knew as much, right? Either way-

The creatures were upon him, and suddenly, Garnet was lifted away from him.

"GRRAH!" he cried out, a mixture of surprise, frustration, and even fear and sadness, as Garnet was borne away.

He extended his arm, intent on trying to have the Black Waltz smitten or something that would release Garnet before she was too far gone...

...and nothing happened.

Not His will? he thought, as suddenly, the rope was thrown at him!

He jumped to the side, but soon realized his error.

Garnet was being borne up. Unless he'd suddenly be granted the ability to fly, or something else, there was one way only right now he'd likely be able to follow her: he had to let himself be taken.

He regarded the Waltz.

The virtue of humility...oh Lord, please protect me...

He grabbed the lasso, fixing it on himself like a belt, and waited.

Yielding to a...thing...like that? Granted, for his own ends, but...it still didn't feel so good.

"What?!? As if Sama!" Crystal yelled, raising her hands above her head, the water she kept in her pouch shot up as well covering her hands. With a flick of the wrists she sent the water down in front of them, coating the still standing men's feet with a thick layer of ice.

Suddenly explosions rocked around them, causing the girl to stumble a bit and scramble to keep herself upright while still avoiding the flying bullets.

She needed more water. A lot more. That man, Kimblee, was getting close.

Crystal rushed forward, sliding effortlessly on the ice she created, waving her hands around her. Water from burst pipes nearby came to her hand and she threw it down at him!

Sama stopped the soldiers from shooting them, and followed up his wind with a fireball at each of their guns; melting the barrels and rendering them almost harmless.

Kimblee was a bigger problem. Explosions rockets around them, and Sama had to cover his eyes for a moment.

“Crystal, no! Let me take care of this one!” Sama yelped. Kimblee was a madman; Sama could sense his evil intentions, and he was worried for his friend to fight someone like that.

As she burst a water pipe, Sama also went to work on his Waterbending; sending a wave of razor sharp ice spikes at Kimblee!

Hawkeye fired a few times, but also shouted.

“KIMBLEE! OUR ORDERS ARE TO CAPTURE!” Hawkeye reminded him.

Zidane was not done quite yet. He walked over to Vivi and made a quick move with his hand; and then walked over to the soldiers and presented a State Alchemist’ pocket watch.

“Proof enough? Or maybe you require a demonstration of his alchemy? That can be arranged, although I don’t envy the guy who it’s ‘demonstrated’ on.”

Where Zidane got a pocket watch from a State Alchemist was a interesting story. Being a master thief, he had a million stories like that.

[Red Rose]

The Waltz dropped Didymus and Garnet on the deck, but in a very different manor. Waltz No. 3 set Garnet down gently and removed the magical rope from around her arms; while Waltz No. 2 dropped Didymus from a few feet up.

The reaction was different from the guards, too.

They left their Princess alone. However, about eight of Alexandria’s female soldiers rushed at Didymus, sword’s drawn and shields at the ready.

A Paladin, even one of Didymus’ limited experience, was easily more powerful than most of Brahne’s soldiers.

However… the two Waltz were each more powerful than the one he had already faced, with a nearly limitless supply of magic, and when you add them AND the soldiers… Didymus was in a bad spot.

“Well, well, well… my daughter is come home.”

Queen Brahne emerged from a door, flanked by two other soldiers. If Beatrix were here, she would be with Brahne right now most likely.

“I’ll deal with you later, Garnet.” Brahne spat rudely.

“Mother, stop!” Garnet moved forward, but two of the guards stopped her.

Brahne pushed aside from Garnet and looked at Didymus.

“Was it you? Was it you who convinced my daughter to abandon me? You self-righteous Paladins! You persecute my people because we use magic, ignoring completely how essential magic is to our culture! You would have us do away with hundreds of years of culture and tradition, simply because you do not approve? You are all hypocrites!” Brahne spat.

“Mother, stop this now!” Garnet pleaded. “There can be peace between our people! The Galdwinians are different than us in many ways, but they do not have to be our enemy!”

“SHUT UP!” Brahne spat, looking at Garnet. “You are young and foolish, and you have disobeyed your mother and your Queen!”

Garnet shook her head, her eyes filling with tears. “You wanted to use my powers as a weapon! You wanted me to destroy people – not just soldiers, but innocent people who have never taken up arms! That can never be right!”

Brahne walked over to her daughter and slapped her across the face. “How DARE you!? Just because you are Princess, does not give you the right to question ME! I am the Queen of Alexandria! I AM! Not you! You will obey me, you sniveling little wench!”

Garnet shook her head, tears streaming down her face by now. “No… mother, please… this is not you… the miasma did this to you… that man did this to you!”

Brahne snorted. “That man? You mean Garland? You know nothing! Garland is my husband, he is your father, and he is Alexandria’s King!”

Garnet gasped. That could not possibly be true, could it? The King had died when Garnet was just a child…

Brahne waddled back over to Didymus. “As for you, you obnoxious Paladin, you have two choices! Tell me all about Galdwin’s defenses, or you can be lit on fire and throw off this ship.”

Garnet was still in shock over what Brahne said, but she shook her head. “Mother, NO!”

Unfortunately for the Central forces, Garet, while seeming like a bumbling kind of guy, was a very experienced fighter.

After the explosions Garet stood there, having drawn his sword, glaring at Kimblee.

“You wanna see a boom?” Garet yelled, then held up his hand, Psynergy glowing.

“LIQUEFIER!” Garet bellowed, and it would seem lines of fire would appear at the Central soldiers, blasting at them! It wasn't deadly, but it would hurt...

Galv had moved as well. His cover was blown as it was.

“Forgive me for the harm I am about to bring others...” Galv prayed silently, electricity sparking in his arms, firing at the soldiers as well.

“Wow, did you hear that?” Cess wondered, hearing the explosion...

As Sama, Crystal, and Galv, and Garret all attacked, Kimblee's grin widened.

A true test of strength. He loved these. It didn't matter if he even lost; survival of the fittest was one of the few things he truly believed in.

"LETHAL FORCE IS AUTHORIZED TO DEFEND OURSELVES!" he shouted, and as various soldiers were either hit by razor-icicles, or zapped with (blessed, possibly at least) electricity, or singed by flames.

"You think that this doesn't qualify?!" he asked.

He was able to dodge Crystal's water surge, but he was nicked by some of Sama's icicles.

He laughed. Had he gotten slower?

"Worthy foes!" he shouted. It was time for some head games.

"This warrants a greater introduction! BENDERS! I am Major Solf Kimblee ("Solf" according to the wiki), Crimson Alchemist, and veteran of the operation that was meant to exterminate your weak people!"

He spoke sadistically, but sadism was not driving his speech. He was hoping to get under the skin of his opponents (again, not realizing that most of them weren't benders), and cause them to become emotionally unfocused.

With that, he drove his hands into the ground again. The first time had been a warning shot. He picked out the center of their formation (whoever was there), and attempted to trigger a large explosion on the ground right under them!

Of course, Kimblee's alchemy was far from subtle, and its "path" was easily traceable...

Library

The guards paused...it seemed a little suspect...but there was the pocketwatch.

"Sorry, sir." one finally said. "It's just that the city's on high alert; we've got to keep on our toes. If I may, we'd like to leave a few of us in here to protect this section while the rest of us go back outside."

It seemed the trick had worked.

Red Rose

Didymus had been dropped. The Waltz wasn't even holding the rope anymore.

In the blink of an eye, he could have his sword out, he could cut the rope, or engage the guards...but still, he was outnumbered, surrounded, facing foes that...had moved so fast...was it that he wasn't focused properly? Was this...ordained?

Beatrix stood, right next to Brahne, as she gave her speech.

Didymus' look was somber. He slowly spoke, earnestly. He was scared, yes, or at least nervous, but steady. Even...serene. Peaceful.

But when she spoke to Garnet...she hurled insults like "wench", he shook. THIS was how she treated her?

As Brahne spoke, Didymus replied, cool, earnest, steady.

"We would not have you do away with magic because we do not approve...but because our Lord does not...and He knows best. That is why we have kept ourselves from magic. That is why we believe all should do likewise. That is why Galdwin has turned from it. Not on some frail judgment of man, but the edict of God-for our benefit."

Yes, he had given a mini-sermon. Whether or not it was the truth, not one of the Alexandrians was likely to agree with him, but what else would he say when confronted on this issue?

"And how have we persecuted your people? It is true that Galdwin and Alexandria have had their skirmishes, but for over a century, at least, we've respected your right to live as you choose. We've sent missionaries with your permission. How are we hypocritical, at least, any more so than yourself or almost anyone else? You must be under some dark influence, Lady Brahne, because most did not recognize me as a Paladin...not with this overcloak, and if your influence was not dark, you would not be treating me like this..."

As Brahne continued, demeaning Garnet, and SLAPPING her, Didymus saw Garnet's tears...something was stirring in him.

Something even deeper was already stirring within him. He was being confronted on issues of faith and theology, and was being threated now practically with martyrdom-for God, country and Order, just like the Paladins were trained to be ready for. It seemed his entire being was stirring, ready, ready for something.

But watching Garnet be demeaned, slapped, watching her plead with her mother, and start to cry...

...like a cherry on a dessert, something ELSE, smaller and less potent but powerful nonetheless, began stirring in him as well. Maybe it was simply hormones for an attractive (albeit younger) girl. Maybe it was a chivalry and piety. Maybe it's because he found himself growing increasingly fond of Garnet, even here as she was brutalized. Or any combination.

Then, came Brahne's metaphorical bomb: about Garland. Even Didymus let out an audible "WHAT?"

Beatrix's mouth hung open.

"How-how is that POSSIBLE?" she asked outloud. "Why would his majesty do that? He was a good man!"

Didymus' mind was racing. Clearly, whatever dark conspiracy was afoot had shrouded both Brahne and her husband...

Then came Brahne's ultimatum.

"I was ordained as a Brother Paladin a few months ago..." he said. "...I know nothing of Galdwin's plans or troop deployments or weapons systems but what is more or less common knowledge. I've recieved training as a leader to be called on in times of war, yes, but I doubt I hold much information you seek...I can tell you what you likely already know, if you wish..." he meant that seriously, despite how sarcastic it probably sounded.

"...as for your daughter...I have been blessed enough to protect her through many trials. I did not turn her against you. Lady Brahne...you are not yourself, I would think. You can be cleansed...free of the clouds in your mind..."

He was praying, silently. He had no intention of becoming a martyr, and was reading for a move...his sword was not taken, and the rope was around his waist...his sword was still drawable, though...

"My queen..." Beatrix said. "...it is true that Paladins rarely break in questioning, but what value is he to us dead? He is submissive, his weapon should be taken from him, and he imprisoned. We have your daughter now, shall we turn around?"

Beatrix didn't particularly like Paladins, but executing prisoners was not her style. She had honor.

Hyrule Castle Town

One of the guards sighed.

"That creature spoke to you as if it knew you...if you have any information about what's happening, we can get you an audience with her majesty..." he gestured at the castle.

and veteran of the operation that was meant to exterminate your weak people!"

Crystal was VERY proud to be a bender and was a proud member of the water nation. It was who she was, and was the focus of her life.

Calling benders--of any kind--weak made her want to tear this man limb from limb.

"LET'S SEE IF YOU THINK THIS IS WEAK" Crystal exclaimed, throwing her hands up and sending another wave of water at Kimblee, before rushing forward at him with two long shards of ice in her hands. The were extremely sharp. She threw each one at very close range and made the water around him freeze.

Crystal wasn't happy.

Suddenly the ground started to shake again, sending Crystal skidding forward. She let out an yelp but scrambled back up.

"It's under us?!?!"

Kimblee smirked as Crystal's rage surfaced.

He was expecting Crystal's attack, given her cry, and disrupted the ground in front of him enough that the wave filled in around or by him.

She charged with her icicles.

That was what he wanted. He clapped his hands together.

He hadn't made living bombs in so long.

The water froze around him, but he remembered something like that...still, he had to strike again, tune down, and break up the ice a bit with another mild blast/earthcrack/what have you, and Crystal had suddenly skidded forward, right there...

...he clapped his hands again, and darted forward. She was right there...

He wanted his living bomb.

As he approached, Crystal may have noticed that his hands were out, and he had an intricate pattern tattooed on each of his palms. She hopefully would realize it was not a good idea to let said patterns touch her.

Hawkeye glared at Kimblee. He was using that as an excuse to try to destroy them, and she knew it! Still… Kimblee was a State Alchemist, which meant he held a rank equivalent to Major.

While he was technically her superior, she was also working under a Colonel’s orders, which did give her some leeway over him… though, he was also technically obeying Mustang’s orders, which only made things harder for her to justify it.

Besides, even if they both knew he was doing what Roy did not want him to do, she could not very well shoot him for engaging an enemy. That… would not look good. (Although, I doubt Amestris has forensic science to tell which bullet came from what gun).

When Kimblee charged towards Crystal, Sama got a little pissed.

He jumped in between them and slammed his feet onto the ground, creating a ‘wave’ in the earth moving towards Kimblee. The Avatar did not stop, though, shooting a gust of wind to go along with it!

Library

Zidane put his hands on his hips.

“Are you implying that this place is UNSAFE with the Shining Eyes Alchemist, here? Are you really saying that a few soldiers with guns offer more protection than a State Alchemist?”

Zidane was trying to get them to leave, so they could steal the book and get home. If they insisted on keeping a few troops behind, though, he could always knock them out.

He DID have a back up plan, of course.

[Red Rose]

Brahne might have argued with Didymus some more, but she seemed far more infuriated at Beatrix! She spun around on her Knight Captain and glared with her dark eyes.

“Are you saying that what he is doing now is NOT good? How dare you say such treasonous things about your King!” Brahne bellowed.

Garnet realized it at that moment… Brahne was not herself. She was delusional, paranoid and a complete wreck. She became angry at the drop of a hat, and even someone like Beatrix who had been a loyal servant for years was not immune from it.

Her mother was lost…

"...as for your daughter...I have been blessed enough to protect her through many trials. I did not turn her against you. Lady Brahne...you are not yourself, I would think. You can be cleansed...free of the clouds in your mind..."

Brahne spun around, fuming, her face turning a disgusting orange shade because of the flush in her cheeks.

“You lecture me on MYSELF? The arrogance of your culture is ASTOUNDING!” Brahne roared.

She snapped her fingers. “THROW HIM OVERBOARD!”

Garet had paused, holding his sword, confused.

He had no idea what a Bender was. But Kimblee had said a word that threw him.

“You're an alchemist?!” Garet yelled. Many times he had been called an alchemist. Heck, by his definition, Sama, Crystal, Galv, and himself were also alchemist. To him, it was someone who could manipulate one or more of the elements.

“Why are you fighting us then? What the heck is going on here? I'm an alchemist! So are they!” he jabbed a finger towards Crystal and Sama, “I'm a Mars Adept!...But I don't see any Psynergy rings...”

Garet frowned...He wished Isaac, Ivan, or Mia were here. This was...confusing...

Galv had used his speed to move around back, dispatching...but not killing, several soldiers with tasor-like attacks. He was attempting to simply lower the numbers...and to get Kimblee from behind...

His hands..Crystal didn't understand the marks on Kimblee's hands (or how bad it would be if he touched her) but she knew it wasn't a smart idea to let him grab her either way.

It was a lot easier for her to heal other people than it was for her to heal herself.

Crystal skidded to a halt when Sama jumped between her and Kimblee. She moved her hands again and the water from the ground came back around her hands, preventing it from inhibiting Sama. She then rushed backwards, throwing icicles at Kimblee!

Kimblee's "cooked" explosion burst out behind Sama and Crystal. But a few moments later, and Crystal would have been right in it! The blast may have thrown her forward, though...

Kimblee rolled to dodge the icicles thrown at him, and hit his hand along the ground, causing a reaction of sorts that took out a portion of the "wave" in front of him, sending debris from it flying everywhere. He even had to try dodging a bit of it
himself. He was struck by several pieces.

He was starting to look rather beat up. Still, he smirked. He didn't particularly care if his number was up here, if they were stronger, that was simply how it should be in his mind. Survival of the fittest.

Still, he had no intention of proving the weaker.

"You, an alchemist?!" he yelled at Garret. "No...you are not alchemists...I don't know what all of you are, but these two are a pair of..." he was hoping to further throw his enemies off, it had partially worked once-"...children of a weaker people, the sign of an unfinished extermination, echos of a culture and people destined to die out!"

He did not know that at the Bending Valley, it was rage and frustration, even sadness, that had driven Sama into his now-infamous state that almost routed them. Had he known this, he may have chosen his words a bit differently.

He struck the ground again, as more explosions rocked toward Sama and Crystal! And Again, creating another chain! And another!

This probably had attracted the attention of most of, it not all, of the city by now. That was part of his plan. Not only did he hope that his explosions would hit his opponents, but that their volume and number would attract any Amestris military units that hadn't quite figured out where their target was, hoping that soon every state alchemist in the city would be here to back him up.

The explosions were excessive, and it looked like he was trying to eliminate his foes without regard to collateral damage (to the city, he wasn't causing any explosions near any Amestris soldiers but himself). Again, the pathways leading up to the explosions and such were not subtle, so they could possibly be dodged, but it looked as if he was trying to carpet the street in explosions.

"They're trying to flank us!" one soldier yelled, as Galv, who had broken through the other side, was now coming around.

"Lieutenant!" Kimblee cried out in the middle of battle. "If you can't pinpoint a target here, deal with the flanker!"

Library

One of the soldiers shrugged.

"Sorry, sir." he said. "Standard procedure. Even if you are good, I'm sure that a few armed guards at your side would only help you, right?" he asked.

Zidane had done quite a number on them. They were confused they had never heard of a younger alchemist than Edward Elric, but the watch was there...but he looked...like a mage...still, the watch was there.

Of course, one of them may have gone to check the records concerning whether the "Shining Eyes Alchemist" really existed. Maybe. If that was the case, the clock was ticking.

The Red Rose

Didymus knew, with Brahne's command, that it was now or never.

(Hope you don't mind if I "use" the soldiers here, GS, even without them, though, my post remains pretty much the same.)

The eight Alexandrian soldiers around him were uneasy. They were all somewhat hesitant to attack a Paladin, and indeed, they would be: Didymus had not actually been restrained, nor had his weapons been taken from him.

Beatrix noticed their hesitance, and her face hardened. This wasn't her style, she didn't WANT to simply throw the Paladin overboard, but orders were orders...

"What's wrong, GENTLE-ARG!"

She was going to call her female soldiers "gentlemen" in an Alexandrian inverse of the standard calling male soldiers "ladies", but she didn't get to finish her sentence.

In swift, fluid movements, Didymus had removed his rope "belt" and let his overcloak drop to the ground, revealing his Paladin robe. He had whipped out his sword with the other hand, and with a prayer drove it into the wooden deck, as a bright, blinding light suddenly shined forth from the blade! It was a similar event as to what had occured when fighting the first Black Waltz. The Alexandrian soldiers were blinded, even Beatrix, (albeit, in all likelihood, temporarily), and Didymus wasted no time.

Quickly moving, the butt or blunt end of his sword connected with each of them, knocking them out.

The effect may have been wearing off now, but Didymus wasn't done. He turned on the nearest Black Waltz-Number Two. His sword was still glowing...he brought it up, charging, and drove it deep into the Waltz (tried to, at least, if it puts up a fight, GS, I'm fine). It wasn't just an extra-powered stab-if it connected, magic driving the Black Waltz may have been purged-and thus the Waltz itself "killed", as the blessed blade connected with it. At any rate, it was a deep drive, and the Didymus' sword was aglow with blessed power, so the Waltz would not have been able to handle the blow very well. With that, Didymus turned toward Black Waltz No. 3...

...at this Beatrix was starting to regain her vision (in her exposed eye, at least).

"My queen, flee!" she said, drawing her sword...but her vision wasn't fully back...

Hyrule Castle Town

One of the guards nodded.

"Very well..." he said. "...if you wish, come with us..." he looked them over.

Round ear tips? Word of their arrival was spreading around the town fast.

With another yelp Crystal was thrown foward, landing on the ground with a yelp and a harsh grunt. She winced and pulled herself up so that she wouldn't be hurt any more than already but had to drop back to the ground and cover her head when Kimblee's latest attack blew up, sending debris flying.

Crystal peeked out from her arms and scrambled up as the ground started to shake again, explosions ringing out and causing the girl to stumble every few steps.

Sama hated this man.

Kimblee was insulting his culture, a culture that had been destroyed by Amestris because of foolish lies. He remembered Ansem told him not to blame Amestris for what their leaders did, but THIS man was everything that was wrong, he was the kind of person who caused the war and the hatred.

Sama clenched his fists so tightly his knuckles popped and his palms bled a bit. He charged at Kimblee, not caring one bit if the rocks or explosions touched him.

“You’re nothing but a monster! A heartless man who doesn’t value life at all!”

Sama sent a wave of flames from one hand, while simultaneously making the ground beneath Kimblee’s feet shake!

Library

There, in fact, was a Shining Eyes Alchemist. However, he had been dead for twelve years. If the guards looked him up, they would see an old man with very bright eyes that seemed to shine.

Zidane decided he was not going to take the chance.

“No problem guys! Feel free to leave your men here.” He said with a big grin.

Then he rushed them, arms outstretched. He punched two of the men in the stomachs and used his tail (which he now unwrapped) to steal the weapon from a third. He jumped back, drew his daggers, and prepared for a nasty fight.

“Vivi, take ‘em out! Sora, Rusty, help him! I’ll get the damn book!”

Zidane backflipped onto a book shelf and started rummaging.

Vivi held up his hands. “T-T-Thunder!”

He launched a spray of lightning at the guards.

[Red Rose]

Didymus had quickly disabled the guards. Not surprising. Although they were well trained, they were also nameless characters and no match for a Paladin, even a low-level one.

The Waltz indeed put up a fight. Neither of them had landed on the deck since they abducted the two, so it was still floating when Didymus stabbed at it. It moved backwards, being much quicker than he was (as it was airborn) and avoided the strike.

These Waltz were each stronger than the first. No. 2 had greater speed, reflexes and physical strength, but its magic was on about the same level.

No. 3, on the other hand, was stronger in every fashion. Physically it was better than No. 1 had been, and its magic was far stronger than anything used so far.

No. 2 created a fireball in its hand, which it threw at Didymus, while No. 3 flew up even higher and started gathering lightning in it’s hands…

Brahne, meanwhile, did indeed back up. So did Garnet – but not by choice. One of the soldiers grabbed her.
