GRAPPLING HOOK!

Central Underground While she was getting nothing but good news Crystal couldn't help but to still be skeptical. She stopped hitting Sama, but that didn't change the fact that she was very mad at the boy. She glared at him silently before turning to Spork. Outskirts of Central City "Well we can't knock out any soldiers sitting around here" Molly said, kicking the nonworking tank once more before looking towards the city. "I'm sure there are a lot of soldiers, and at least a few cars, in the city. Perhaps we should take a nice little break at a outskirts tavern....You know: have a couple drinks, break a couple skulls" |

[Central City Outskirts] Jordan nodded to Molly. This girl was certainly... different. She seemed entirely too eager to get into a fight with armed soldiers. Someone like that could make a rookie mistake and get them all killed. Then again, she was cute. “We'll have to be careful...” Jordan reminded her. |

Madain Sari When Garnet asked her question, Didymus spoke. "Looks like a submersible vehicle...I think we've got a few of those in Galdwin, but nothing of this kind of design...that DOES look a little scrapped together, though..." “At least it can't get any worse...” Steiner shoot Zidane a glare, as the turtle was transformed! As the admantoise appeared, Didymus and Steiner drew their blades! "Fell beast..." Steiner said. "...conjured with witchcraft..." Didymus muttered. "Stay back, princess." Steiner said. Both began studying the creature, looking for a weak point...and advancing on it. It was the same routine as usual-neither intended to allow the threat to get anywhere near Garnet. --- Rikku noticed that there was still fighting going on on the shoreline... What the...did they bring a monster, too? she thought, seeing the adamantoise. "YUNIE!" she called. "Don't go to-!" she paused, wondering if Yuna would even listen to her at this point-she really did want the best for her. "I'M SORRY!" she yelled, swimming after her! Flashback-Besaid Island “You say that that’s your, um, trainee?” another villager asked Harris. “Yes…” Harris said. “”Templar” is his proper title.” “Oh…” the villager said. “…well, the local Yevonite temple has a trainee of his own around…she’s about his age…training to be a summoner, no less. I hear the maesters are expressing quite a bit of interest in her…” “Her…?” Didymus asked, a tad afraid. Harris noticed this. He looked warm, yet earnest, for a moment. “Don’t worry, templar.” “But if I see her…” “Then say hi and be friends. Relationship is, most often, an important part of ministry.” “Yes…yes, elder brother.” A young man in a brown robe was making his way to the beach. The sun had set and it was a quiet, calm night. The island had impressed the Templar so far, and the bright moonlight was helping reinforce that. He was coming up on the beach, his mind on the events to come, his mission work with his elder Brother, and the affairs that hopefully would arise from them... |

[Madain Sari] The admantoise snarled and snapped its massive jaws. The turtle was heavily armored, and the only real weak spots were its head (and the previously mentioned massive jaws) and its legs (all of which had massive claws, capable of tearing through armor and bone). Vivi blinked and stumbled forward, shooting a blast of lightning at the admantoise, knocking the beast back a bit. “Things are getting out of hand... why is this happening...” Garnet sighed. […] Yuna paused as she got closer to the shore. She stopped and turned, looking to Rikku as she swam closer to her. “Sorry? Rikku... I know why you did what you did, but you betrayed your oath! Rikku, I need you to trust me – please! I want you at my side... but I need you to believe in me...” [Flashback: Besaid] Also out on the beach were a truly unusual pair as they walked down the beach. The first was a young girl with a smile on her face and eyes of different colors. She was dressed in traditional white mage robes of white with red triangles. Next to her was an enormous blue man, with fur and the head and tail of a lion. He was a Ronso – one of the ancient warrior tribe of lion-men. He carried a giant spear and was silent at her side as they walked down the beach. |

Madain Sari When the admantoise was knocked back, Steiner charged with a mighty bellow! Didymus rushed in after him, as Steiner tried to bring the blade of his sword bearing down at a weak spot on the beast's neck, with Didymus watching for an opening to strike... [..] “Sorry? Rikku... I know why you did what you did, but you betrayed your oath! Rikku, I need you to trust me – please! I want you at my side... but I need you to believe in me...” Rikku paused. Betrayed...broke her word...to her kin. To her kin. "I..." in a rare moment for the usually cheerful Al Bhed, she felt tears welling up, even as she tread water... "I...you still want me to hang out with you...? After all this...? I..." She shook her head. "...alright. Alright, Yunie. I'm sorry, I just...didn't want to see you get married to that creepy guy! Still don't. But...Al Bhed shouldn't break their word to their kin..." she said. Flashback: Besaid Island Didymus had found a nice rock to sit on, and plopped down on it. He decided to take out his sword, and examine it. He held it up, looking upon its shape and the reflection it held in the moonlight...for a moment, he wondered what it would be like to hold a proper Paladin sword, not just a Templar's one-but a blessed blade, shining and not just reflecting...to be taken into that position... It was peaceful here, and the moonlight reflecting off of his blade as he held it up added to the power of the moment, it seemed. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw movement-he quickly turned, and noticed the pair approaching. He had heard of strange peoples in these parts of the world. He had seen many types of peoples, but never a Ronso before...and at his side, it appeared, a...white mage? He couldn't make out most of her features at this distance, her hair appeared to be white in this moonlight...he wondered how he may look to them, sitting there with his cross-shaped blade and his brown robe... He nervously waved with his free hand, and kept his gaze partially on them, partially on the ocean... |

[Madain Sari] As Steiner charged towards the monster, the admantoise withdrew its head and neck into the shell! The blade clanged down against the shell, unable to draw blood. Then the monster popped its head back out, trying to bite Steiner! […] Yuna swam closer to Rikku, and then tread water in front of her. “Rikku, you're my cousin. You're important to me... in truth, I have no desire to marry Lord Seymour either... but it is for the good of the people. I must fulfill my duties as High Summoner.” Yuna's voice had a hint of sadness to it. “... but far more important is my work with Garnet. The war on the mainland will not stay confined to the mainland; and the wicked workings we have exposed here prove that. We must do everything we can to stop the darkness, or it will consume even Spira too. I need your help to do all of this.” [Flashback: Besaid Island] Ronso were great warriors. One of the reasons they were great warriors was that Ronso were known to be incredibly overprotective. As Kimahri and Yuna walked along the beach, the great Ronso warrior looked up to see a young man waving awkwardly – and holding a drawn sword. Kimahri reacted quickly, drawing his spear and rushing up, towering above Didymus and letting loose a very loud and ferocious roar. “Who are you!?” The giant blue lion bellowed. “Kimahri! Ack, wait!” Yuna called out. |

Madain Sari "GAH!" Steiner cried out, as the admantoise snapped at him, and he tried to step back, the beast knocking him off-balance! With a silent prayer Didymus thrust his blade at the creature as its head snapped out at Steiner-and he thought he had a shot at its exposed neck! [...] Rikku paused. "I...is that really what you gotta do, Yunie? Marry someone who's gonna hurt you? That...that can't be right! I know that sometimes we all gotta do stuff that we don't like, but...marriage with someone you don't wanna marry? Where does it say you hafta do that?" she said. “... but far more important is my work with Garnet. The war on the mainland will not stay confined to the mainland; and the wicked workings we have exposed here prove that. We must do everything we can to stop the darkness, or it will consume even Spira too. I need your help to do all of this.” Rikku paused, reflecting a bit on what just happened, before smiling-though it was an uncharacteristically weak smile. "Y-yeah, Yunie. You can count on me..." Flashback:Besaid Island Suddenly, the ronso had lunged ahead, and roared at him! Didymus had been tested, even had fought before. But he was still just a Templar, a Templar who had yet to face the greatest and most fearful test of his Templarhood, who still had learning to do...when the ronso roared, spear ready, he was clearly intimidated, or at the least startled, and held his sword in a defensive stance...before slowly lowering his blade. "I am..." he paused, but decided he may as well be up front about who and what he was. "...I am Templar Didymus. Please, I mean you no harm." ...at least that girl didn't seem to be so quick or eager to attack. |

[Madain Sari] Didymus' sword stabbed the beast in its exposed neck, but the Admantoise shrunk back before a fatal strike could be made. It roared out and unleashed a breath of freezing-cold air! […] Yuna smiled. She would have hugged Rikku if she didn't need to stay afloat. “Thank you, Rikku. Now we should get to shore and try to help...” [Flashback: Besaid] Kimahri was still snarling and barring his fangs, and still brandishing his spear. He did back down – ever so slightly – as Didymus lowered his sword. Yuna rushed over and pushed Kimahri back. The Ronso slowly obliged and strapped his spear back to his back – but even without it he stilled looked as if he could take a very serious bite out of a person. “I apologize for him... Kimahri is very protective.” Yuna bowed to Didymus. “I am Yuna. This is Kimahri.” |

Madain Sari When the admantoise unleashed its breath, both knight and Paladin jumped to avoid it-however, Steiner's armor weighed him down more than Didymus' robe-conversely, it was easier to get hot inside full plate than a robe (maybe), so the end result was that they both were chilled, but both now were on guard, waiting for the beast's next move...they had something of a battle rhythm figured out...any one that got the creature's attention would effectively providing distraction for the other. "H-hold out..." Didymus said, shivering a bit from the chill air. "...i-i-it's gotta be losing b-blood from the wound in its neck..." [...] Rikku nodded, at first a little slowly. "Y-yeah, let's go...wait, help?" she looked back. "Hey! Where'd that monster come from?!" She started swimming toward the shore! Flashback: Besaid “I apologize for him... Kimahri is very protective. I am Yuna. This is Kimahri.” Didymus sheathed his sword and looked over the two now...the ronso still looked very intimidating. This was his first good look at Yuna, however...her hair appeared white in the moonlight... ...but still very pretty. A mage, apparently. Wandering around with a caretaker or bodyguard? "Nice to meet you." Didymus did his best to muster up a smile (still a tad intimidated by what had just happened). "...so...he's your bodyguard, I take it?" he asked. |

[Madain Sari] The admantoise WAS loosing blood. It was also becoming even more enraged. The monster snapped its jaws, smashed its claws into the ground, and continue spitting the freezing breathe. “This is getting bad.” Zidane noted, though he had yet to actually help in any way. […] Yuna was also paddling quickly towards the shore. [Flashback: Besaid] Kimahri grunted and crossed his arms. He did not seem to like a stranger talking to Yuna. Yuna, however, ignored him. She was always one to be polite... and while this man was clearly a foreigner, she had a duty to be a good will ambassador for her island. “Yes. Kimahri is a friend, and he was asked to watch me for the day. My name is Yuna.” |

Madain Sari The creature was snapping and clawing around, and breathing its chill about! Didymus and Steiner were both doing their best to bob and weave and stay away from it, as slowly, they could see the stream of blood from time to time... "We cannot delay like this! We need to slay it!" Steiner cried. Meanwhile, Rikku finally reached the shore! "What is that thing?" she asked, watching the adamantoise snap and smash, and Didymus and Steiner do what they could to avoid it and try to find an opening... Flashback: Besaid Island “Yes. Kimahri is a friend, and he was asked to watch me for the day. My name is Yuna.” "I take it he's rather dedicated...in retrospect, maybe it was a bad idea for me to be to wave at a couple people I didn't know while my sword was out...I apologize if I appeared threatening..." He chuckled a bit nervously. "...I was admiring the reflection it had in the moonlight." He looked around. "This entire island is...nice, captivating, even. I imagine that it's a pleasant place to live." |

[Madain Sari] As Yuna reached the shore, she was out of breath; and Garnet instantly spotted her and darted over, despite the giant turtle monster. “Lady Yuna, are you okay?” Garnet asked worriedly. “Yes…” Yuna responded, thankful to be free of the water. She looked up at the great turtle, and then paused. “Garnet. You can stop that beast.” Yuna informed her. Garnet shook her head. “I-I couldn’t…” “Yes, you can. You are a summoner, and in this village, your powers are at their strongest… dig deep, Garnet. Call on a summon and stop the beast.” Yuna implored her. “I…” “You CAN do it, Garnet. Do not doubt! If you cannot defeat a single monster turtle, how will you stand against the army of darkness that threatens Alexandria?” Garnet knew in that moment the time to hesitate was over. She moved forward and clasped her hands in front of her heart, searching for the magic, or the bloodline, or whatever it was that allowed her to summon and she called on it. “T-Tsunami!” Garnet called, and green spheres of light shot from around her feet and flew into the lake behind them. The water began to bubble, and suddenly out of a great blast of steam, the spirit of the giant aquatic serpent appeared! ![]() Leviathan roared out of the water and shot forth! It grabbed the turtle in its jaws and swallowed the monster in one large gulp! “… Whoa. Maaaaaybe I shouldn’t hit on her quite as rudely anymore.” Zidane scratched his neck. Garnet gasped. She had just called forth a true summon – something massive and powerful. In a single bite, it had destroyed the monster plaguing the company. With such a fearsome power at her hand, she could reclaim Alexandria! She could pursue the evil ones who operated behind the scenes now… this was it… the power of a summoner. [Flashback: Besaid] Yuna shook her head. “Oh, no no no! You weren’t threatening at all… Kimahri overreacted.” The young summoner took a pause as she realized that this young man with a sword was likely a warrior from a distant land and she had just stated he wasn’t at all threatening… for a warrior, that was a grave insult. “Ack! I mean, you could be very threatening, I just wasn’t threatened.” Now she was saying a young woman, not even of age yet, was not afraid of him? That likely would not help. “I mean… um…” "This entire island is...nice, captivating, even. I imagine that it's a pleasant place to live." “I… I’m glad you like it here…” |

Madain Sari Didymus, Steiner, and Rikku all blinked as suddenly the sea monster suddenly appeared and swallowed the adamantoise. "Astounding..." "Coool..." ""...there go the ships: that leviathan, Thou hast made to play therein..."" They all turned to Garnet. Steiner with a look of awe, Rikku with one of happiness...and Didymus with something of a grin. "Right on!" Rikku said. "This is what you were after, right?" "Indeed...does this mean we may return to Alexandria, now...?" Steiner asked. Didymus chuckled. "Summoning...whatever its source, one cannot deny its "shock and awe" factor..." he said. He looked around. "Is everyone alright?" he asked. "I believe we have a boat to flag down, if it's still there...then maybe we can get some sleep on the way or something..." he said. "...speaking of which, where, exactly, are we going next? I may encourage us to start heading back towards Alexandria, but is there any outstanding busniess we must attend to here in the Cluster? Flashback: Besaid Island Didymus watched as this girl seemed to stumble over her statements, not sure what she was trying to say... Wait...she's trying to be polite. She doesn't want to call me weak... He chuckled a bit. "Please, relax. I thank you for the comments, but, well..." he paused. "...I'd rather not be scaring people away just by lying around and examining my sword...I suppose being threatening could be useful. But I'd rather only be scary if it's necessary..." He chuckled again. “I… I’m glad you like it here…” "So, do you live around here, then?" She was clearly a mage...the prospect darted into his mind that this was the local Yevonite trainee he had been told about...he wondered if she recognized what he was, what with his brown robe, his cross-shaped sword... I introduced my self as "TEMPLAR Didymus", so if she doesn't, she's probably not heard of the Order... He chuckled inwardly, part out of amusement at his thoughts, part out of nervousness-he was chatting with a pretty girl and had just been roared at by her large bodyguard-so he was understandably, perhaps, a little nervous. |

[Madain Sari] Garnet smiled to her friends for a moment… and then she collapsed to her knees. She felt weak, as if all her power drained from her. “Princess!” Yuna rushed to her side and supported her to keep her from falling further. “You summoned a truly powerful creature, and you are still inexperienced… it’s no wonder you were weakened so much.” Garnet nodded, and slowly rose back to her feet. She looked to the group and she gave the slightest of smiles. “Thank you all… we’ve come so far… and we were successful.” The question Didymus asked lingered in her mind. “Next… we have to return to Alexandia and I must reclaim the throne. Then, hopefully, we can put an end to this war.” Yuna hesitated on the idea of unfinished business in the Cluster. “… I cannot ask you to delay your return, but I’m afraid I have an unfinished task here… I will join you when I can…” Garnet paused. She thought of her people… and then she shook her head. “No. If you have something else to do, I will stay with you.” “Princess, that—” “Yuna… as Aerith said… you are my sister. This is my home, in some way… and if not for your help, I could not summon. So I will not leave you behind now. I will help you however I can.” Garnet smiled softly. Suddenly, a black smoke swirled, and a figure stepped out in front of the group. Tall, menacing, green… it was Maleficent. “How sweet. The lost summoner sisters reunited in the ruins of their homeland… how very touching.” Maleficent grinned. Zidane drew his dagger, Vivi raised his staff, Auron took up his sword – but Maleficent raised her staff and a shield surrounded her. “This was never supposed to happen… but now it has. Still, it is no matter. Only a temporary setback to what is inevitable. You cannot stop what has already begun. Suicide is your best option at this point… if not, I shall personally escort you to the gates of hell!” She vanished in a puff of smoke… [Flashback: Besaid] “Hmmm…” Kimahri just grunted. Yuna straightened up and seemed as nervous as she did before. “Yes… I live here… I am a summoner-in-training. And you are a Templar? One of the ones who came to our village?” Yuna was intrigued. |

Madain Sari When Garnet collasped, Didymus and Steiner both rushed forward to catch her as well, but Yuna got there first. Both listened as Garnet and Yuna spoke, and both seemed glad to finally see her smiling again, (though perhaps as usual, Didymus seemed a tad wary as well). Then, something approahced... ...when the sorceress appeared, Didymus and Steiner, as well as Rikku...well, everyone, it seemed, had their weapons out. ...but she simply vanished with but a few words? "Bah." Didymus said, sheathing his blade. "Poor woman. Has no idea what she's meddling in...but...the gates of hell shall not prevail. I like to think I've got that on good authority." He paused for a moment, his head bowed. "Well then..." he said, when he looked up again. "...let's flag down our boat, and if I may ask, Yuna, what exactly IS this unfinished busniess you speak of?" Flashback: Besaid Island “Yes… I live here… I am a summoner-in-training. And you are a Templar? One of the ones who came to our village?” So...she does know, then... Didymus nodded. "Yes. Yes I am. Again, I am Templar Didymus, a pleasure to meet you. And you're a summoner in training...?" He chuckled. "Well...fancy that. Two apprentices running into each other like this..." |
