Tot's residence

Didymus listened to Cid's boasting, and paused.

He doubted it was true, and he had asked Yuna, not Cid himself, how the airship performed.

Still, it could do. Hopefully.

He looked over at Vivi when he asked his question.

"As long as you don't cast any magic on Galdwinian soil, you should be alright...with that being said, it may be best if you stayed hidden when we were there, if for no other reason than to spare us having to deal with any questions people may have..."

Finally, Chloe said her bit.

"...Sister, if you have an assignment in Ankh-Morpork, than I cannot endorse, perhaps, or even allow, I wonder, you to come with us. Of course, not that would not enjoy having you along with us...do you at least have leave of the Order to pursue this quest with us if you're sure it's more vital or what have you? Again, please, I'd rather not be in a place where I was defying the Order, neither, I'm confident, would you."

Still, at Rincewind's comment, he found himself chuckling. Not because he was laughing at him, but rather, at what he said.

"Witty." he remarked.

[Abandoned Building]

Sama was surprised when Vimes appeared, and he felt a bit uneasy… still, the man was offering them a lot of help; and Crystal wasn’t thrilled with being underground anyway.

“… What do you need from us in return?” Sama asked, raising an eyebrow.

[Treno]

[Tot’s Place]

Chloe crossed her arms and frowned.

“As I stated before, it is not coincidence that I found you when I did. I will go where I feel led, Brother Didymus, and right now I feel that I must come with you. It may not be the Order’s orders, but I feel it is His will.”

[Machine Corps]

Ed grabbed onto the staff, grumbled about being too small to jump up (and then almost cried at the admission) and pulled himself onto the tank.

“What question?” Ed raised a blond brow.

[…]

Winry gulped when Molly brought up the idea of dying. She decided it was time for her to do what she did best – play around with the motor. She disappeared through a hatch, and crawled into a maintenance tunnel that ran beneath the tank.

Yes, she was now hanging under a moving tank, working on the engine, as they fled soldiers and a serial killer. Winry is now tougher than Bruce Willis.

Didymus listened earnestly as Chloe spoke.

"...if you truly believe this is indeed His will, and are willing to stand before the Elders with that...then very well. I'd think that this may be allowed anyway, as faith...well, again, if it's what you truly believe..."

He nodded to her. Perhaps that was all that needed be said.

Shimera smiled, standing in front of the witch. "Hello, Ms. Weatherwax! My name's Shimera!" she exclaimed, holding out her hand for a handshake.

KxS sat at the table and looked around. She then shrugged and started daydreaming...about plump steaks and juicy pork. Grilled chicken and lamb chops.

She seemed to look as if she was in a hunger-daze, her tongue hanging out, her chin resting on the table and her eyes closed.

Meeeeaaaaaaat... she thought.

Chloe nodded her head, and the look on her face was stern and sincere. There was a steely passion in her eyes, and a clear resolution behind it.

“I do truly believe it.” She said simply, and that was that.

Tot looked to Bookman. “Apologies, things are a bit hectic right now my friend… tell me, what did you need again?”

Cid grunted, and went off to prepare his Airship.

Meanwhile, Auron took Rikku by the arm and dragged her off to the side.

"... Just what are you doing?" He asked, referring to her questions to Didymus and Yuna earlier.

“I do truly believe it.”

Didymus was quiet, looking over her, then sat with his head bowed, and hands together for a bit.

He looked up, again, brought his hands back to his sides, and nodded.

"Very well, Sister. I bear witness to your conviction."

"... Just what are you doing?

Rikku pouted.

"Hmph! I'm trying to figure out what's up between Yunie and that cloaked...Paladin...or whatever he said he was! Can't you see? The way they talk to each other, how HE'S acting, how SHE talked about their past...they had something going on. I want all the details! And YOU can't stop me! I have a right to know what my family's been up to, you know!"

“There are several Benders in this city. Many came after your Valley was attacked. What I want is some cooperation from them. They don't trust us, and it makes things difficult to work with them,” Vimes said, “When you get back, I'd like you to talk to them. All Ankh-Morpork would want are their skills and money. That's what it wants from everyone.”

“A few, actually,” Sheba said. “Last night...What was that thing? He had that odd red stone...A Philosopher's Stone...What is that? Is it anything like a Golden Sun?”

Sheba had read his mind last night, after all.

Weatherwax looked at Shimera's hand, then smiled faintly, shaking her hand.

“I sense a lot of magical energy in you,” she said, looking at the blonde girl, “Hmmm...you too...” she pointed to Cess, “And you...Ohhh, you have a curse...”

The witch paused, “And you're looking for help? Then you're in luck. I'm one of the strongest witches around...”

Cafe

“I'm not hungry,” Roxas muttered. “I don't really eat...”

“Get whatever you want, and as much as you want,” Xehanort said, glancing to Kxs, “I should make sure you have enough to eat...”

[Ankh-Morpork]

[Abandoned Building]

Sama frowned a bit when Vimes explained what he wanted. He halfway wished Vimes had asked him for money, or for him to perform manual labor. The idea that he would be expected to convince the Benders to cooperate with Ankh-Morpork…

With a small sigh, he nodded. “I can talk to them… but I can’t guarantee, or even expect, them to listen to me.” Sama told him.

[Machine Corps]

Edward frowned at the question, and his mind reverted back to the previous night. The Philosopher’s Stone that had been taken from Bradley had been on his mind constantly since then. It didn’t mean he believed her claim of mind reading – but he didn’t have an explanation for it.

“Grrr…” Ed sighed. “The Philosopher’s Stone is supposed to be able to break the laws of alchemy. It lets you perform a transmutation without offering an equivalent exchange…”

He frowned. “… I don’t know what the Golden Sun is, though.”

[Treno]

[Tot’s Observatory]

Auron’s aged face turned hard as stone, and his eyes narrowed behind his half-glasses.

“Damned fool girl!” Auron growled loudly, not even trying to hide his visible rage. “Yuna has spent the past several months plagued by dreams of Alexandria, and now we’re standing with the Princess of Alexandria… do you really think now is the right time for such trivial matters?”

KxS clasped her hands together. "Mmm, a large, juicy steak...20 ounces, at least!" she exclaimed, the moment almost like a chibi scene in an anime. Who cared if 20 ounces was big for a steak, she was a werewolf!

Rikku stood firm, looking agitated.

"What's going on...? Should I even ask...?" Didymus called.

"HE'S being mean and grumpy!" Rikku said. "I have a RIGHT to know what my family does, and HE'S mad at me for it!"

She turned to Auron.

"You just don't get me at all!" she said.

That's right. Rikku had just pulled the "you don't understand" card.

Vimes took a drag of his cigar.

“We'll see what happens. For now, Amestries is leaving the city. Captain Carrot will be accompanying you,” Vimes said. The large dog whined slightly.

“Relax,” Vimes said, “Besides, I can't spare you right now. And Carrot will be able to get them into Amestries...most likely. Right Carrot?”

“Sir!” Carrot said, saluting.

“Carrot will bring you to the wagon. Good luck, Avatar,” Vimes said, tossing his cigar on the ground and grinding it with his boot, turning to leave. The dog walked over to Carrot, who patted it's head and smiled, then walked off.

Carrot stood back up.

“Captain Carrot Ironfounderson, Ankh-Morpork City Watch!” Carrot introduced himself, holding out his hand to shake.

“Good,” Xehanort chuckled, “Enjoy it...”

Auron glared at Rikku, and his dark eyes intensified to the point that most would shrink back from him in fear.

“I don’t HAVE to get you. I’ve sworn my life and my sword to protect YUNA, not YOU. You’re her guardian, so focus on her – ignore that Paladin boy.”

Auron was not one for gossip.

“… Whatever feelings he had for Lady Yuna, clearly he’s moved on and found a different forbidden fruit to fixate on.”

Or maybe Auron was a huge prick, because he said that loud enough for Didymus, Yuna and Garnet to hear. Yuna went red in the face, but Garent remained in her emutreehouse.

[Central]

[Machine Corps]

Edward frowned. He did not think he believed Sheba’s boast of mind reading, but from the look on her face, she was trying it – and if somehow she could read minds, Ed certainly didn’t like that.

Still, he wasn’t too concerned since mind reading was scientifically impossible…

“And what is it made of? I sensed something...very bad...so many minds...crying for...for death...”

Edward froze and almost fell off the tank. He frowned, and looked down at his right hand.

“… That’s a question I spent years trying to figure out,” Ed admitted. “… I finally got some solid leads… we met a doctor named Marcoh a few months ago… he had a stone, and he told us…”

Ed shook his head, squeezing his golden eyes shut. “… Look, when I finally learned what that stone was made of… I’ve spent every minute since then wishing I didn’t know. I don’t know what you want that stone for, but trust me lady, it’s not worth it.”

[Main Street]

The convoy had returned, and Mustang had gotten out of his car on Main Street. He was going to proceed to the military headquarters, but a group of soldiers had waved them down. They were led by a redhead named Jean Havoc, one of Roy’s top supporters.

“… Havoc, what’s going on?” Mustang asked as he stepped out of his car. He was weary, and not in a good mood. He had failed to capture the Avatar – and it was because he had let Sama go.

“… Sir, there’s been a few developments since you left. The generals had a meeting, and decided on a new Fuhrer – General Grumman.” Havoc informed him.

Mustang laughed aloud, suddenly thrilled. Grumman was one of his favorite CO’s, and a good friend. He was also Riza’s grandfather, and he actually did approve of Roy’s… intentions.

Well, maybe not ALL of Roy’s intentions.

“… He was assassinated by Galdwin.” Havoc sighed sadly.

Mustang’s face dropped, and Hawkeye gasped aloud and covered her mouth. She never allowed emotions to effect her duty, but hearing this news caused her to stumbled – for only a second. Then she composed herself.

((And ANOTHER of GS’ characters has her parent/grandparent/mentor killed. That’s Rinoa in RFTS, Garnet and Hawkeye in S&S, and Sama in S&S too, but he’s not a her and that happened off-screen.))

“… I’m sorry, Lieutenant.” Havoc looked to Hawkeye, and out of respect, he dropped his cigarette and stomped it with his boot. “He was a good man.”

Hawkeye nodded. “Thank you, Lieutenant Havoc.” She was visibly shaken, but she was trying not to show it.

“There’s more, sir.” Havoc said, looking to Roy. “Grumman was only Fuhrer for a short time, but he did issues a few orders. His first was an order of promotion.”

Mustang felt like someone had just punched him in the kidneys. He knew what was coming. Grumman had done him a favor – the first thing he did as Fuhrer. It made him sick that he would never be able to thank Grumman in person.

“… I would congratulate you, General Mustang, but I have a feeling you’d punch me.” Havoc handed him an envelope, which contained the orders and Mustang’s new emblem.

“You’re right, Lieutenant.” Mustang answered solemnly. “… I will not let Grumman’s death go unpunished. I will find whoever killed him, and I will bring a swift justice against them.”

He turned to look at Hawkeye, and sighed. “… but first, I think we will need to talk to the Generals. It seems we must elect a new Fuhrer, once more…”

[Ankh-Morpork]

[Abandoned Building]

Sama nodded to Vimes as he left, and then approached Carrot. He shook his hand, and offered him a friendly smile. Sama generally got along well with others – as long as they were not soldiers of Amestris.

“My name is Sama, it’s very nice to meet you. The girl over there is Crystal and that little boy in her arms is named Hammah. The guy with brown hair is named Spork, and the redhead is Garet.”

Sama introduced everyone, and then grinned. “I suppose we’re ready to go?”

[Tot's Observatory]

While the group conversed between themselves, Doctor Tot was quickly pulled away by Bookman, and the old elven man began to quickly speak, trying to fit a number of details quickly into a small summary.

"We have been contacted by Marshall Cross. You know how rare that tends to be, especially with the man being called the Ghost of the Order, but he has revealed himself to the BOOKMEN. This immediately sent us all into a frenzy, we're not entirely sure what is happening yet, but Cross has contacted me personally to give you a few pieces of important information."

Bookman looked a lot more tired as he began to speak. It was obvious that he was missing sleep lately, and he looked much more tired than he usually was.

"The Earl is on the move. And it looks pretty bad. We have lost contact with one of our branches, and several Exorcists have been dispatched, so far with no results or even communications. We're afraid of the worst. The Noah have been sighted, and Ankh-Morpork has recently been attacked by them from within, several guilds destroyed and a few hundred lives lost. There have been sightings around here too, and Lavi has been carefully monitoring the surroundings ever since we appeared in Treno. I have a very goo reason to believe that Treno isn't very safe at the moment."

He looked over his shoulder at Allen and Lavi who were conversing quietly and catching up on times, since the two friends have not seen each other for a while now. Bookman just gave a sigh and turned back to Tot.

"I know you want to take the airship, but that will make you open for attack. It is much quicker, I admit... But is there is a Noah here, then it might be very likely that someone from this group can become a target. However, I do not know what else to advise. Gargan Roo is not as... Safe as it once was before. Or as secret. Someone compromised one of the mid-way exists from it. I would dare say that it is quickly becoming a trap."

[---]

While Bookman was filling Doctor Tot in on the details Allen and Lavi (the red-haired boy), both ended up in a similar talk, only with Allen being filled in on the latest happenings in the order. And he wasn't exactly looking too happy about it. As Bookman was finishing with his conversation with Tot, Allen stepped up to the group, looking rather serious.

"I know I said I would help you all, and I will still stand by that. But I just got some rather bad news, and I think I will be leaving you all shortly. The Order is in trouble, we are getting spread too thin. The Earl has started attacking all over the place, aiming for both small villages and large cities this time. There are reports of at least individual attack from all over: Amestris, Alexandria, even portions of Hyrule and the outskirts of Galdwin. It's all small, but it's growing, and growing far too quickly."

In the meanwhile, Lavi looked over the group of people Allen was traveling with before with interest. His eyes were carefully skimming over every person, and those experienced fighters of the group could tell that Lavi was basically picking them apart and cataloging it all. Well...

... That is until he saw Yuna. For a second, there was a brief pause, during which Lavi made sure to basically judge Yuna as well... Before he turned to Allen with wide eyes...

"Strike!!!"

Allen just clapped a hand to his forehead. "Now NOW, Lavi! Lavi! LAVI! LAVI, listen to me! LAVIII!"

The boy wasn't listening however as he already moved, pretty much appearing right next to Yuna as he continued to pick apart who was who in the group. He could tell almost immediately who were the fighters, who were the magicians, who was skilled in which particular area...

And he memorized it all. He was a bookman, after all.

And while doing so, he introduced himself.

"Heya! Name's Lavi, Exorcist and Bookman! Who might you be, lady of heterochromatic eyes?"

“I don’t HAVE to get you. I’ve sworn my life and my sword to protect YUNA, not YOU. You’re her guardian, so focus on her – ignore that Paladin boy.”

"I AM focusing on Yunie!" Rikku protested. "How is trying to figure out what she's done NOT focusing on her!"

Defiant of Auron as always, Rikku persisted in her defense of her actions.

“… Whatever feelings he had for Lady Yuna, clearly he’s moved on and found a different forbidden fruit to fixate on.”

Rikku actually paused for a moment.

"What? Don't say that! That's cruel! Why is he all embarrassed and stuff around her, then?"

Rikku actually wouldn't have minded if Yuna ran off and got married or something-the notion that her "suitor" had a faith that DIDN'T oppose machine use, and as such didn't persecute her people-was enough for her to push forward whatever relationship may have been there. Besides, she was worried for her cousin's own sake as well-some of the maesters she had been told about sounded...creepy, and she wanted Yuna out of there.

Didymus, on the other hand, was shocked and flabbergasted by Auron's remark.

"What right-I-um..." he flustered. Then sighed.

"If...if a fruit is truly forbidden, I...I have no intention of biting into it." he said.

Then, Allen spoke, and Didymus regarded him.

"I see..." he said. "...of course, I understand. I wouldn't concern yourself too much with Galdwin-especially with this war on, my Order will be on high alert, and we've got reinforcements in the outskirts. Again, if your Order is in trouble...then very well. Brotherhood is important."

However, then Lavi started acting...strange.

Didymus' hand moved to the hilt of his blade, but even when he suddenly appeared by Yuna's side, Lavi didn't appear to be doing anything particularly threatening or hostile...so he didn't draw, just watched.

Central City, Amestris

Command Center

Armstrong was in the meeting room again, looking VERY annoyed.

"What's wrong?" she questioned out loud. "Can't you Central wimps keep your own FUHRER safe?"

She was clearly unhappy about these developments. Generals, two Furhers in two days...it felt like their nation was a laughingstock right now.
